Love front squats and chest to bar PUs but my double-unders suck! Great WOD.

Great quote selected from Coach Wooden. It's the practice where we put all the work and forge mental toughness. To be able to play the game is the reward, but not the substance.

It is nice that the Marine Corps embraces CrossFit. I am in the Navy, and they have completely shunned CrossFit. I have to do it in secret in my garage.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Joshua Sullins at June 8, 2010 5:50 PM

hey all,
Is it better to lift the weights prescribed in WOD if at all possible or would it be better to scale down in order to get most of the reps without having to take breaks. When doing the thrusters from Monday's workout, I was pretty much doing singles by the time I got to 135lb thrusters

Comment #16 - Posted by: a7u at June 8, 2010 7:01 PM

#16 That guy is a chaplain in the U.S.Navy. Please don't confuse him with a Marine.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Michael Trichell at June 8, 2010 7:03 PM

Comment #8 It is better to RXD whenever possible even if it takes you a bit longer than scaling down. There are those times that the weight is just beyond your level and sometimes the a skill movement will take to long and defeat the work out. That is why on "Active-Rest days and strength days you should work on a weakness or perform somewhat of a metcon related to the strength movement. Hope this helps.

Grow up you should try to be humble because Im sure if a Spealer, Kalipa, or an Orlando saw you work out they could redicule you on your performance, form, and physique. Its not cool and very unprofessional. Have a little class.

I believe when Coach is asked whether to scale down to keep it more metcon or do as Rx'd (or scale up) for more strength requirement, the answer is always "yes".

#14-for those of us in the military, it is proper regulation to stand at attention with both hands at the seams of our trousers during the national anthem when wearing civilian attire.

Comment #22 - Posted by: David Han at June 8, 2010 8:21 PM

Flag Etiquette - Also, a recently accepted practice allows veterans to salute in civies during the National Anthem as well.

Your comment is simply not true, for those of us in the military, the right hand across the heart while at attention is the correct action. Seriously though, why does this matter on this site? Forget minor pictoral details and just do the workout. My unit is doing this for PT tomorrow so that should be fun. Peace.

4 rounds with 155lbs.

Having lots of trouble keeping weights over a 135lbs properly racked.

What kind of exercises/training increase ability to rack a decent amount of weight? I can front squat "body builder" style (arms crossed) around 225, would like to do the same, and feel like I have the strength to do so, just can't hold on to it.

@46 Brian the new crossfit gym at Camp Pendleton was established by MCCS. They used FY09 recycle funds in order to build the new structure. If you are interested in having one built in Camp Lejeune i suggest going to the main fitness center and asking for the fund administrators and directors POC. Once you get that run it through your chain of command and see if they can help. The only reason we got the new structure is because our old warehouse had to be torn down. Also, im not sure if you are familiar with Crossfit Stone Bay or Crossfit Camp Lejeune.

My company is soon to be moving to our new CP (command post). My company commander has tasked me and my other friend (who are both LV.1) to help find what equiptment we can get and where we can find it cheap so we can use donations from the soldiers to buy it.

we need
-olympic bars w/ bumper plates
-rings
-medicine balls

Any ideas on who, where, what, when, and how would be greatly appreciated. any ideas on homemade medicine balls or rings would work. Outfitting your area in the Army is no easy task and we need olympic bars and plates DESPERATLY for our unit!

help me out military personell
spread the insurgency of crossfit!

P.S. Any companies that would like to help out we would greatly appreciate it.

AGAIN - an almost complete absence of women in the video. What is the problem with giving equal coverage to women in crossfit promotional videos????? Not only is it not fair, it's also not strategic - in most boxes more than half of members are women!

Compare on Facebook membership and activity in the Crossfit Chicks versus Crossfit Guys pages, for example. Women are both the most strategic market and most active members in the community, yet are consistently underrepresented in materials, I just don't get it.

PR For FS is 205 x 3 (How ever PR For Squat Clean is 180) so you see how everything kinda get tricky here. any way, Decided to go with 165, (PR for power clean is 170) because i knew i would be able to power clean it and keep the Intensity high. Nice WOD, Butt almost touch the floor in every rep.

I saw some one in the GYM here In Fort Carson with a Power lifting back ground this guy was Hang Power cleaning 245 x 5. very Impresive. I have never seen anyone in person doing that much weight in my life.

have a nice day everybody, my legs are still fried from the Thrusters, climb, KB swing and row WOD from the other day. Nice WOD though.

#14 and #29. I believe that the hand over the heart is ONLY proper during The Pledge of Allegiance. You are making a pledge, much like swearing an Oath, where we place our hand on the Bible.

I believe that during the singing of a National Anthem, ettiquette calls for a "Posture of Reverence". Standing with arms at sides, or saluting if in uniform.

I think the hand over the heart has become an accepted posture. The difficulty lies in the fact that few people know the true ettiquette and many assume. It frustrates me greatly that so few people know proper Flag Ettiqette, and businesses constantly fly tattered, torn, abused flags. These need to be retired in the proper manner. How many people know what that is?

Complete as many rounds in 12 minutes as you can of:
185 pound Front squat, 5 reps
10 Chest to bar Pull-ups
20 Double-unders

Front squats from rack
pullups C2B (short bus)
DU's on ground;)

5 round 2 front squats

Front squats were the thing. After round 2 I broke them as 3/2. Also I was sweating so the bar tried to slip on me. I focused on chest up, but after 3 reps I would lean just a bit. Anyone who read this. Wear a shirt. It will help the bar from slipping

Pullups unbroken
DU's broke but not to bad. Second set was best with 1 and 19. The rest was two or three sets. fifth set works in 5's.

Stephanie Molina #65,

Crossfit women have always been very well represented, from the names of the benchmark workouts that were named for some of the pioneers of our movement on through to some incredibly capable and very much highlighted athletes like Gillian Mounsey.
Crossfit women do not need a militant womens liberation voice to speak up for them, they are quite capable of expessing and proving for themselves. As a matter of fact I think that Coach Glassman originally through down the gauntlet to any other fitness system by challenging any male from any system to compete against one of the original Crossfit Ladies.
You should make it a priority to ensure that you personally represent our sport and culture to the best of your personal ability and leave the devisive crosstalk to the T-Nation page. I know Crossfit women are tough because I live with one, nothing so humbling as having your wife beat your Cindy numbers.

Hey SANTI,

Saw your post back when JT was posted so it motivated me to do the incline followed by a modified JT at the top. Curious if you have timed yourself from bottom to top? I started at the bottom (by cog railway parking lot) and it took me 38 mins. I was hoping for 30 mins flat, so I have some work to do! If the games were held in Colo Spgs ever they would have to include the incline!

I have done the Incline in 28 minutes, Starting from the Parking lot of the bar trail. I known people that did it in 24 Minutes. I hear all kind of crazy times that people can go up to the incline, I would think under 30 minutes is a very good time. hey let me know guys when you guys doing the Incline again so we can meet.

Comment #65 Stephanie. What were you looking at? I see women in that video. Sure, there might be two or three more clips of men? Who cares? In one of the last frames, there is a man AND a women flipping a tire, not sure if you noticed. 99 percent of people probably enjoyed that video without finding something to bitch about. I don't think anyone intentionally said "Let's put less footage of females here."

Not that this concerns me greatly, but I was curious so I looked it up.

United States Code, 36 U.S.C. § 301, states that during a rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present and not in uniform may render the military salute; men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

Kipping CTB's, but from what I see on the WOD vid's that's ok.

Loved the John Wooden quote. We should all aspire to be as good and decent of a man as he was. Here's another Woodenism

"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can."

DYK? John Wooden wrote a love letter to his wife Nellie every month, and continued to do so after she died in 1985. Every month he wrote her and told her about what the kids were doing and how much he loved/missed her. After he passed, family removed 3 boxes of those letters to be buried with him . . . next to Nellie of course.

Your making generalizations, Marines dont salute without a cover, and standing at attention is the way I was taught. Many mornings PT would still be going on when it was time for morning colors followed by the national anthem, and never saw anyone with their hand on thier hearts. If you are conducting a PFT you dont stop for morning colors.

Comment #258 - Posted by: Mik at June 9, 2010 11:00 PM

So my DU's suck, I am really bad at them! This slowed me down TREMENDOUSLY. In order to maximize the workout, should I just substitute Squat Jumps in the place of DU's? I know that is not rx'd, but I feel that my inability to do more than a couple of DU's in a row limits the purpose of these workouts. Any advice?

As Rx: 5 complete rounds
I was cookin at first.. I did the first round in aboutr 1:20, and finished the 3rd round in about 5:45.. the 4th round was done in about 8:00, so I was thinking I'd easily complete 6 rounds.. but the 5th round F.S. were SUPER SLOW... I was rounding and nmy but was commming up too fast without holding tight and my lower back was obviousloy feeling.. it was harder and harder to hold my vertical position.
I did the F.S. rounds is 5 unbroken, 4+1, 4+1, 3+2, 2+1+1+1.... I did all C to B pullups unbroken and was pleasantly surprised, because I did them on the top squre piece that went across a cable cros over machine in the gym.. I was rattlying that thing pretty good but my chest was slamming into the square bar I was holding. I actually tripped up almost every round of the D.U. and that was really surprising, because I'm pretty good at the D.U. even when tired I can bang out 20 or so in a row, but only 3rd round was unbroken.. almost all others had a slight trip up at about 10 reps.. weird.
Good Fun WOD.
185 for me is a little heavy, bu heavy is what I need so I was definiely going As Rx.. I was tempted to go a little lighter like 175 or 170, and try to get more rounds out... but if you can do it unbroken you should challenge yourself and go Rx. always.. fatigue and form are a constant battle that you need to regulate and gauge.

As rx'd, 6 rounds + front squats + C2Bs + 4 DUs.

Had 4 rounds in 6 minutes, but pace was not sustainable. Still, I am pleased - I went pretty hard at this one, right up to the end. Front squats were unbroken throughout; I tried to be very careful with form to make sure I didn't aggravate the hip. Chest-to-bars were the tougest - only first round unbroken. After that, I averaged at least 1 missed rep per round - it's discouraging when you pull hard but don't feel your chest brush the bar! Still, these went okay until round 7, when I just didn't have the pull left and had to resort to singles. 70 C2Bs is the most I've ever done. Double-unders served were not perfect, but good enough. They served their purpose to keep the heart rate jacked up. I was overheated and spent after this; needed another 12 minutes just to compose myself...good stuff.

Harder than I thought. First time ever front squatting. Also, still having trouble kipping. Frustrating. Subbed tuck jumps first round, 40 single-unders rounds 2 and 3. afterward did 2 rounds at 135.

15 mins AMRAP of 185# FS, 10 C2B pullups, 20 DUs

5 rounds + 10 C2B, 5 DUs

I had to clean the wt. the 1st two rounds, I was to impatient to weight for the squat rack. The rack was free after the 2nd round DUs. Setting the wt. on the squat rack lost me some time but not much. DUs were pretty good today, unbroken 1st few rounds then like 18/2 on the rest.

Squats, in general, are my weakness. I know I can get 185 x 3, but wasn't sure if i would be able to get it after a round, so I decided to go with the lighter weight. Frankly, I'm glad I did, because this WOD was brutal!
