What a brutal wod! RIP!!!
Wow...this is going to be awesome.
i dont know how on earth they got those times, this is gonna be brutal for sure
"Hey look at that weirdo on the treadmill with a 45lb plate!"
YES!! Fired up!!
R.I.P. Lieutenant. My prayers are with you and your family.
Yowza!! I am sure Andrew would be honored to have this workout named after him.
how is the plate held when you run?
OMG this will be freakin insane. So looking forward to it. Glad I stretched out today, I'm gunna be sore all weekend.
RIP, LT Nuttal.
I'd love to see videos of those performances. Insane times.
RIP.
Was planning which Hero WOD to do for Memorial Day. This looks like it fits the bill.
Hate to see these new Hero workouts continuing to be added, but its a sober reminder of war's real cost.
Always Ready!
#12..probably how the heck ever you can manage it by then!
Im guessing my time is going to be somewhere in the 45 minute range!
Oh my. That's going to suck.
RIP, LT.
that's definitely going to hurt
RIP LT. This WOD looks brutal.
Fly free Lt. Rest in Peace.
#7~ you must report back how globo central (guessing globo gym) reacted to your 45# plate runs!
This workout looks a lot like the Canadian Chipper workout that Atomic Crossfit had for Thursday. Finished nearly as Rx'd in under 25 minutes. I say this with pride because I am just under 300 lbs. I beat the cutoff time. I just need to work on my running.
BTW - I tried to find a couple of artists that have been featured on the videos - specifically the NW Regionals Women Qualifiers...Chad Cannon - Western Fire? Tried to find it on Itunes and Google. Could not find it. Help?
I also tried to find Stomp The Line by Professor Ace. Could not find this one either.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.
An appropriate way for us to enter this Memorial Day weekend. Fair winds, young Sir.
I hope the bell doesn't hit when I'm half a block away from the station with a 45# plate...
Fair winds and following seas on your journey warrior!

HERO WOD, RIP.
Will hit this one hard tomorow, I am pacing my self to do everything unbroken exept the Wall balls and maybe the Double unders.
The hardest thing will be the Wall balls but oh well, Bring it! Again RIP, have a nice one everybody.

Gone But Not Forgotten (Poem For Fallen Heroes)
Many heroes fall during battle
this fight for freedom often costs
these men and women we send to foreign shores
often it these lives that are lost
but they will not be forgotten
we honor those souls that slip away
and know that they've become angels
In heaven, on this day
The memory of them lives on
as we sleep we see their face
the dreams seem so very real
we often imagine their warm embrace
God has given them free reign
to whisper gently to the trees
to glide effortlessly among the clouds
and dry your tears with a breeze
So as long as we are alive
we will hold them in our hearts
and as long as we can breathe
our heroes will never be apart
So as we bury you with honor
we will grieve, then heal & pray
and even though we'll miss you you
we'll be reunited in heaven one day
Linda Racaniello
Your serious about the 45 plate run.
Looks like a great one! Can't wait!
29:00 subbing 45# thrusters, 600 single unders, and 100 lunges w 45# plate.
This is the sweetest WOD i've ever seen
This WOD seems appropriate for Andy. It'll seriously suck. RIP bud.
re: #30--Linda-a truer poem was never composed.
R.I.P and thank you to our Canadian cousins in uniform!! We love you-come home safe and remember the adage (adopted by our P.O.W/M.I.A organization) " you are not forgotten "....
What a sad pre-Memorial Day workout.
RIP Andy Nutts
A true Canadian...soldier and hero.
At the going down of the sun, and in teh morning, we will remember...
Cant wait to hit this one hard tomorrow! R.I.P!
I will make it hurt in a way suited for a true hero, RIP
Andrew would have loved this one - besides being a fantastic infantry officer he was also a certified Crossfit instructor, and a great teacher.
As a former CF Vancouver I'm doing this one for Nutt.
RIP bro.
An amazing work out named after an amazing solider... lets give it 110... 3 2 1 GO!!!
This is the first time I'm actually getting nervous about a wod. As Sam Beckett would say, oh boy.
RIP Andy - unfortunately I didn't get to know him but everyone at CrossFit Vancouver that did speaks very highly of him.
A very brave man.
Fair winds and following seas brother.

27:06.....
Almost thought I was not goning to make it during the DBL unders.
I'm still learning double unders, is there a substitute like 600 single unders instead?
I also have to get a new jump rope because the one at the gym here gets tangled up.
@ Alan (#48)
- I'm still working on getting consecutive double-unders, until I do, I'm doing tuck jumps instead.
This WOD is going to hurt, but I look forward to it. RIP Lt Nuttall.
#48 - CF FAQ says to sub tuck jumps for DUs, singles just aren't the same exercise.
I'm not able to do this as RX'd...I'm still going to hit this hard with assisted PUs & HSPUs, 45# thrusters for wall balls, and tuck jumps for DUs, but I'm going to run that 400m with a 45# plate. My neighbors might think I'm crazy, but that's OK. I don't think they'll say anything because I'll probably look a little scary by that point in the WoD.

the 400m run was the worst
If it weren't for a hero, I'd pass on this WOD. On behalf of my family and I, thank you (and your family) for your service and sacrifice. RIP.
Amazing WOD! 28:43 110KG Deadlift a brutal battle for the last 400M with the plate but so worth it.

Sounds tough...will do this one in body armor. Always seems appropriate with a hero WOD. Got an 8 mile hike planned for later in the day but it is Memorial Day weekend and this is in honor of a fallen military brother. What could I do to compare to that sacrifice? RIP and thanks to all those that serve.

The HSPU were full ROM, they didn't want to come out, Finished all the deadlifts and the HSPU within the first minute, Box jumps were unbroken, did them in my Garage, pulls ups pace my self to do 10 at a time breathing 5 times and go in the bar again, The 400 meter run with the 45 LB plate did 200 meters uphill, 200 meters down hill, what killed me was the Wall balls and the Double unders, the double unders didn't even want to come out after the wall balls, I was doing them maybe 15 to 25 at a time. sometimes less than that. wall balls were 5 at a time. Nice WOD.
Have a nice one everyone. Not doing a Second WOD today. just stretching.

Ready to kick off this Memorial Day Weekend right with a Hero Workout!
For those of us relegated to globo gyms, I'm planning to do the weighted 400m run by doing 5 laps around the basketball court (approx. 400m). Much easier than trying to adjust the speed on a treadmill while hugging a plate.
RIP, LT Nuttal.
While in Costa Rica I tried to jump up on a stone wall that was about waist high... somehow my right hand slammed into the wall. Fortunately it was the last night of an awesome trip.
Went to hand surgeon yesterday and my 3rd metacarpal is 'pulverized'. So that hand will be immobilized for 6 weeks. Please share appropriate WODS if you have some.

ran without weight. Couldnt really grab a weight at the globo gym and run on treadmill haha. Loved this workout though, I felt good besides the legs!
Was at 13min before double unders. They took forever, calves and shins were just killin me. Run took 2 mins so it took 15 mins for the damn double unders lol. RIP NUTTS!!! Wanted to stop on double unders but didnt, you guys dont give up on us!
Nutts was a close friend of mine and many others at Crossfit Vancouver, this guy was true warrior and competitor in all aspects of life. The workout is bang oo for Nutts! "Live life to the fullest....make a difference" Lt. Andy Nutts.
#125, The best technique to run with a 45# plate is to hold the plate above your head with arms locked. That way you get great shoulder and core work. Otherwise if you find a plate with handles you could sling it over your back or if no handles, grab plate tight to chest with arms crossed

first 4 exercises took alittle under 6 minutes. So, the last 3 took about 28 minutes, which the majority was wall balls & double unders. Double unders are the one exercises my Vibrams suck for. When I miss (often) the rope gets caught between my toes. Overall really enjoyed this.

Crossfit Sri Ram Ashram puts up some legit times.
Forgot to mention that I lost at least two minutes in this one from a lengthy conversation with Pukie, haha. A great example of how pushing it too hard ends up getting you a worse time. Also IMO a great argument for lower sugar content in At Large's RESULTS... the sweetness makes me queasy every morning! Anybody else ever had this problem?
Take care everybody, have a great weekend.
This is a great Hero WOD! One of my favorites of the new ones. A great tribute to a fallen hero.

WOW
that was painful
Subbed a few things, workin out of a garage with minimal equip, but it was a good wod none the less:
10 hspu's
25 deadlifts at 210lbs(all the weight i have)
25 27" jumps(onto a stack of old tires/rims)
50 pullups (on a doorway pullup bar)
100 45.8lb thrusters(did it with one of the tires/rim i was jumping on)
500 single unders (switched because i suck at double unders, by the time i got to 20, i was cooling down, just taking too long)
400 m run with a 50lb non olympic plate(horrible cause it had no handles)
just about 40 min...brutal stuff...definitely took longer than i expected

scaled 21:17. Subbed 30 1-arm db swings, 35 lbs. for deadlifts. HSPUs not quite to vertical. 25 strict pull ups rather than 50 kipping (that still bothers the pec/armpit, which is otherwise much improved).
Buy in: worked up bench press to 195, attempted 205 but it was painful. Felt good to that point. Snatch practice working up to 95 pound squat snatches in sets of 3.

HSPU were not down all the way, but I went as far as I am capable at this point. Pull-ups were jumping after a while, and DUs were 100 rather than 200, with a whole lot of singles thrown in. That last 400m run was an airborne shuffle!

I almost killed myself with a time of 26:25. I can't imagine what kind of work capacity you have to have to get a sub-17 minute time on that WOD...
23:40, subbed some tuck jumps, 35lbs plate
nutts indeed! what a treat for my second week back. i took about 7 weeks to focus on strength, then a week off of everything and today was my punishment. got handstand pushups for the first time though, set of 8 then 3. they werent all the way down, to about 3.5 inches above the ground, but thats still way better than last time i tried a few months ago when i couldnt even get one. had to do it all outdoors, south louisiana heat and humidity kicked my ass all over the place. skipped du's (tuck jumps for me anyway), took 4 minute break (was dying after wall balls) and only ran 250 meters with the 45#. under 40 minutes, pitiful! cant wait to get acclimated to cf again!
25:56
Subs
- 24 inch box jumps for 30 inch
-45lb thrusters for wall ball
-screw those thrusters. I was at 6 mins when I got to them. I think it took about 8 mins to complete. Awful.
-DUs went alright. I need to build more stamina on those.
-45lb plate 400m did not go to well. The plate was so awkward to carry. For next time, carry the plate in one arm at the side of the hip, stabilizing it with the other. That seemed to work best.

Injuries to my L-ankle and L-shldr slowed me way down. I was planning on going a little easy this cycle to let them heal, but I just can't do that on a Hero WOD.
Had to step-up onto the box, turn around and jump down onto my right foot. Lots of L-shldr pain doing pull-ups, so I broke them into sets of 10 and tried to emphasize my R-arm. Had to walk the 400m, as I can't run yet. Of course that meant holding that 45# plate longer. :) Despite all that, I had a lot of fun doing this one.

Other thoughts:
Before I could do double-unders, I had to get really fast at single-unders. Personally I think 4x single-unders is a better sub for double-unders than tuck jumps.
Anybody know what the conversion is for wall balls if you only have a 16 lb ball, or a 10 lb ball? I know you can't just increase proportionately. 200 wall balls at 10 lbs is not the same as 100 wall balls at 20 lbs.

Week 2 of Crossfit here-
I liked this workout a lot. I still need a lot of skill work but it gave me a chance to work on some things I've needed to.
10HSPU (Found these relatively easy)
185# Deadlift x 15
25 x 25" Box Jumps (very fun)
30 Kipping Pullups, 20 Jumping
100 Wall balls broken into 30, 30, 10, 10, 10, 10 (TIRING!)
10 minutes of jumping rope intermittently doing DU's haha these need work big time. Maybe did 100 DU total
Treadmills were full and it was 100 degrees outside so I biked 1/4 mile on level 10 resistance, then jumped on a treadmill that opened up and did interval sprints 45 sec sprint 30 sec jog for 5 minutes
Checked the timer afterwards and realized I'd forgotten to turn it on. I'd guess around 30 minutes but I was having so much fun that it didn't really matter. Thoroughly enjoyable workout
and I forgot to mention a very heartfelt RIP to Lt. "Nutts" When I was sucking the thought of him definitely motivated me to try harder. Why is the sky blue? Because God loves the Infantry.

Got to DU at around minute 15. I finally got DU's!!! I forced myself to do them all and it totally payed off. The first 70 were slow and then all the sudden I was able to string them... I just 'got' it! I'm sooooo happy. I can only string 5-10 for now but that's waaay faster then doing one every couple of jumps and way more energy effective. For those who keep subbing for DU's you can have hope. Just force yourself to do them in a WOD and you'll get them much quicker! Sure it gave me a rough time but I learned it an they'll never slow me down again. I'm guessing if I could redo those DU's now I could easily have gotten in the 20-23 minute range.

Well, that didn't work out too well. I typically work out at noonish but got up early on Saturday to knock this one out. Got all the equipment lined up, did my typical warmup then started in on HSPU's. Moved on to the DL's and on rep #9 did a number on me back. Set the weight down and headed upstairs for the ice packs. Spent all day Saturday with ice and ibu and finally was able to get out of bed around 11:00 am on Sunday. Very sore but it's only a strained muscle, not a disc issue. It will be a few weeks before I'll dead lift again and will likely be out of full WO mode most of this week. I did crank out some pull ups today.

Fun WOD.
I only have a 10 lb med. ball so I throw it about 14 ' high to try and compensate.... I had to do the 400 meter run on the treadmill.. hard to get on and off while it's moving and you're holding a 45 lb plate...
(I think that the 200 D.U. was the kicker in that it got my forarms burnign a little bit and then to hold onto the 45 lb plate while running was a great final killer)
I like throwing high rep D.U.s when you're already tired.. that's how I got to be decent at them.. it's one thing to practice them when you're fresh.. try practicing them when you're already pretty tired and breathing hard.
Next time I'm going to do my run in the gym in 24 x 50 feet back and forth.. that way I can stop and start whenever I need to. I'll cut a few minutes right there I bet.. and I need to push a little harder on the wallballs with the pace. Even though my posterior chain has been super tight and super sore for the past few days, the D.L. felt lighter than I thouht it would.

45# thrusters (no 20# ball) and 300 single jump ropes. Would MUCH rather do 20# ball...none available and DUs (working on it). 45# thrusters are a sub only in the punitive sense.

DU's out of practice, too sweaty to hold plate during run. tough wod, rip.
Chippers are a weakness, have trouble pushing through each station, took too many rest breaks during WB's and DU's.

Except used a 10 lbs medicine ball there were no 20's
Gotta work on my double-under skills they killed my time Great wod
Subbed 2x ring push ups for HSPUs, 17.5lb (each hand) thrusters for wall ball, 22.5lb dumbbell in each hand for the 45lb plate (really didn't want to drop that on my toes when running).
At 20 mins after the wall ball, but the DUs killed me, kept catching the rope between my Fivefingered toes.

As rx'd, 23:16.
10 HSPUs - unbroken, 0:30.
15 DLs - used 255# cause i'm lazy, unbroken, 0:45. Should have done some DL in warmup though; a little twingy.
25 Box jumps - to get 30", I have to put 4 plates together on the bench - not too stable. So I stepped down each time. Slow but unbroken, 2:15.
50 Pullups - broken 15-10-10-10-5, tried to pace this a little, 3:00.
100 WB shots - these were the worst part of today. Had to do these outside in the 95-degree heat. It's not bad enough that I had 5 or 6 "misses" where the ball didn't quite get to 10 feet (including what would have been #100), but I also got a fat lip from trying to catch the ball with my face instead of my hands on a rep. Broken, 25-15-10-10-15-15-10, 7:00.
200 DUs - gassed when I got to these. Got first 58 in a row (PR); strung the rest together in mostly 20's and 30's, 4:00.
Run 400m - Also outside, awful. Run? More like a slow shuffle - but resisted walking. Hardest part was holding the plate on my back, managed to drop it only once, at halfway point. 3:15.
That leaves about 2:30 of gasping in there, mostly before and after wall-ball. WODs like these are a good challenge for me - this longer time domain is not in my sweet spot.
We will always remember you Andy. Today at Crossfit Vancouver (www.crossfit.ca) we had a killer event in remembrance of Andy. His parents were there to award the Nutts Cup to the overall Male and Female winner. And in keeping with true to Crossfit form, at the last minute the workout was tweaked slightly - chest to bar pullups instead of as RX'd.
My time was 29:09 (and I feel great!)
Thank you Andy for everything you did for us and our country. You are very missed.

27:14 RX'D no subbing. Love the hero WOD's, although it is a sad turn of events that lead to them it makes me think about how much people are willing to scrafice and so I alway push past my limits when doing a hero WOD and sacrifice everythig I have to give. Just like the Heros. RIP
