We don't have kettlebells at my gym should I just grab a 45 plate and swing it more? Any suggestions would be great, sorry I am only 2 days into figuring this all out.

The video for the North Central Regional looked amazing....leaves me disappointed in the fact that I live in the Central East. There is no comparison between the two...gymnasium vs horse pasture?
I'm confused about some aspects of crossfit. If I can't do 30 pull ups in one set... do I just do as many as I can do and move on or take small breaks till i can pump out 30?
what kind of evil b*st*rd thinks this stuff up? Well, I don't know how, but, somehow, I will, get through this, then, maybe......
Comment #7: Chris - if you are only two days into this (by that I mean doing Crossfit), then do not use a 70# dumbbell. You will need to scale this down, probably on all the parts of this WOD. I would lower the weight to ~35-45# and only do three sets instead of five.
#23 Why should he only do three sets? OK scaling the DB down for the risk of injury but hey, this is suppose to be tough. Scaling the sets down will not increase the tempo unless you've good knowledge about pushing yourself and your body, which I doubt this man has.
So Chris #7: Scale the DB down to a weight that feels comfortable, but do all sets of five and do your best. Heartrate wont kill you!

Look up scalability in the crossfit journal. If something is requiring you to do 30 repetitions it is obviously intended for muscular endurance. If your max pull ups are around 5-6 and it will take you two hours to do the work out you are missing the point. Try doing your max pull ups and then do jumping pull ups for the rest of them, or increase the number of jumping pull ups to 60 or something. Whatever you do it is better than doing your chest and tri's and then jogging for 20 minutes.

Scaling the rounds is also a valid way to scale the workout. That's just what CF Brand X did for the last Eva (they might adjust the scaling today, so check the website for the current scaling):

The goal for the first month or so of CrossFitting, and definitely the first week, is to slowly adapt to the demands of the workouts without incurring injury, rhabdo, or burnout. Intensity should be gradually introduced, so making things "tough" from day one is not advisable.

go to the start here menu in the main page, click on the start here, brand X scale workouts, once in there, click on the crossfit WOD, look for todays date and basically there are different scales for everyone, from butter cup, puppie scale, pack, porch and Big dogs, When i first started crossfiting almost 2 years ago and Eva came in the affiliate, it was scaled to something like the puppie scale, after so long your body develop better and you become in shape. I tell you this because before i could barely do 5 x 35 pound KB swings, now i can knock out about 50 in a row with the 53 LB KB, I couldn't even 1 x 95 pound thruster now i am doing 3 x 165 thrusters. it takes time but you will get there if you follow the program. I love Crossfit and i can't wait to do Eva. BRING IT COACH! my plan is to knock out 10 KB swings at at time and 15 pull ups, resting if i need to, if not keep going! as far as the run, less than 3:30 per run.

KB swings are not allowed in our weight room on Andersen AFB, Guam because they are "unsafe." The KB could slip out of your hands and damage one of the mirrors or a piece of their precious Nautilus equipment.

2 pood = 32 kg = about 70lb. This is a hell of a workout for someone's first week, I would scale it if I were you.
Maybe half of everything (weight, distance, and reps).

I'm new to Crossfit, started on the 9th w/ Jerry. I have quite a bit of strength/conditioning experience and decided to do Crossfit while I'm deployed to try something new (it's kicking my butt, and I like it). My question is:
Any time a workout involves pullups, does that imply kipping? Is that standard across the board for Crossfit? 150 is a lot, no matter how good you are at pullups.
Hi, A question about WOD Annie (DUs and sit ups 50-40-30-20-10 reps for time.)
What is the "world record" or fastest time anyone knows for this WOD? I've seen Spealer do it on video in 4:2x or something. We had a guy do it today in 3:53! He just ripped through it with enormous pace without any breaks in anything. How does this time compare?

Runs killed me. After 2 knee surgeries, running is my weak link! 1st 800 solid, 2nd on had to intermix jog, run, walk. Extra time in 3rd round to tape right hand tears, and extra time in 4th to tape left hand tears. Never stopped clock.
I think I need to start pre-taping every time, or find some tight thin gloves for heavy PU days.
Oh well, goal next Eva is to keep more round of running unbroken. Even if slow, it would have to help my time!

No buy in or cash out - just warmed up the pullups and kb swings minimally, then kind of used the first round as the rest of the warmup. Did the kbs as 10-10-10, pullups as 8-7-6-5-4. On round 5 I broke the Kbs down to 6-6-6-6-6.

Haven't posted for quite awhile, but have been doing the workouts. I read some of the early posts and it makes me laugh that some people are pissed off/turned off with today's workout. Nobody is forcing you to do it are they? I mean I know that it would be nice to only have to do a 5 or 10 min workout all the time, right? This was a top ten tough workout for sure, but I think everyone needs to be extended and challenged physically as well as mentally and this workout did just that!

I'm very new to CF, but have been seeing a lot of posts about scaling. I've only started CF 3 weeks ago and what I did was scaled each week as such:
Week 1: 25% of Rx'd (this may seem too easy, but stick with it. Some things may seem cake, while others kick your butt, i.e. HSPU's)
Week 2: 50%
Week 3: 75%
Week 4: Hoping for 100%, but if not, 80%
Week 5: 90%
Week 6: Grin and bear it
Over-training is a very real thing, especially with these workouts. CF is no joke, people. So just be careful and listen to your body. You don't have to rush into this and hurt yourself.
And if you feel I'm full of crap, please say so. =)I don't mind criticism.

So I start Eva, completing the first 800m run (in record time I might add). As I'm coming back into the house, I slip on a step, turn my L-ankle, and fall to the ground. Instantly, major swelling on the outside ankle. It looks like another foot grew out to the side! Scraped-up my R-shin too.
Couldn't walk on it, so iced and elevating it for about 45 minutes. The swelling only went down a little so I figured I'd push thru it. I started over and sub'd a 1 mile bike ride for the 800m runs.
A lot of time was spent limping to each station and especially hopping on one foot up and down 1 flight of stairs to get to and from the bike.
Actually felt the swelling jiggle when I road over rough spots with the bike. I was able to shift some weight to the RLE during the bike ride and KBS, so it didn't exacerbate the ankle too much. Kept the ankle stable during the pull-ups.
Now my family, who think it looks broken, are urging me to go to the ER. Gonna ice, elevate, and compress it and see what it looks like tomorrow.
