SWEET LOOKING WOD, looking forward to this in my garage, my goal is to keep going and not to take any breaks. I might even penalize my self with 3 burpees everytime I stop more than 2 seconds at the end of the WOD. BRING IT! Have a nice one everybody.

Started the 5x265 lbs, 20 lateral jump burpees, but my hamstring got the best of me- going to take a few days off and get back to the 2-a-day experiment on Monday. Damn you old running injury!

Comment #11 - Posted by: Tim/35/M/70/170 at May 5, 2010 6:01 PM

just did the reverse 70 burpee WOD from last week and then sat down 20 min later to see this WOD, So went outside and did it.
4 rounds of squat cleans and ending on the 6th situp at 7 minutes. Not too bad, but the situps take time up. And it chaffs the buttbone.

Do squat cleans start from the floor or is it a hang clean position? Tried to find a video but didn't see one.

Comment #13 - Posted by: chadcota at May 5, 2010 6:51 PM

chadcota
squat cleans are always from ground, if it supposed to be a hang clean it will say hang squat clean in the description - hope that helps. Keep at it!!

What would be the odds that the Games WODs are all taken from the .com programming over the year leading up from last games. I could see this in there.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Pili - CrossFit O-Zone at May 5, 2010 7:24 PM

Coach,

Aside from variance why no abmat?

We tested anchored and non anchored sit-ups a while ago and I came up with the conclusion that because in normal life your feet aren't anchored when you stand up I choose to have people do non-anchored. (more often) They seem to fit the functional category better, because your feet aren't anchored when you stand up normally. The additional speed that was gained from short bursts of anchored sit-ups seemed to burn peoples hip flexors out faster ultimately made them slower (at higher rep range)

I kept power cleaning the weight in the middle of my sets without the squat, annoying, I didnt count them, just trying to get it up too quick and not thinking about the proper movement.

At my recent CrossFit Cert they spent about 1 hour on why you should always use the abmat for sit-ups. They did demonstrations with and without the abmat and drilled into us that without the abmat your stomach muscles disengage for a second when you transition from your back to your hips. They showed this anchored and un-anchored and advised it was always better to use an abmat or a towel if you don't have an abmat. Wish I could get refunded for that hour of the cert. Looks like the powers that be at CrossFit HQ need to get on the same page.

Hope someone can provide an explanation as to why there is no abmat for this WOD.

Squat clean indicates that you must pass through the full squat at some point during the clean (it's a full clean) - from the floor. If it was supposed to be from a hang, it would say hang squat clean.

As far as when the page says "clean" like yesterday - I just take that to mean do it however you can, if you can power clean it do so, if its heavy enough to require catching in the squat, then do a full clean.

Whatever, just DO WORK.

Complete as many rounds in seven minutes as you can of:
95 pound Squat clean, 10 reps
20 Sit-ups

The standard for the sit-up is feet anchored, back of the hands touch the ground above your head on the bottom, and hands touch the anchor at the top. No Abmat.

rx'd 4round's and 10 cleans

I wanted 5 rounds and missed it by the situps. Good sprint.

DAve d post 111

Please do not give up on Crossfit. I too have noticed my strength not gaining much in certain lifts, especially bench. But the benefits everywhere else far outway big numbers in a few lifts! I do supplement with some power and olympic lift sessions, on top of the daily wod. If your legs are strong this wod should be easy, a squat clean is in essence a front squat from the ground. But if you are not accustomed to front squats, it could make it tough. Dont judge solely from a numbers standpoint of a few lifts, I too used to be a typical globo gymer, but incorporated olympic lifts at least. Football background and now a firefighter - both cultures seem to be so numbers driven. Don't buy into it. HOpe this helps ease your mind somewhat.

#5 and #35:

Yeah, I subbed GHD situps instead of regular because my tailbone is RAW from Barbara from this last Tuesday.

3 Rounds + 7 Squats.

I think that I lost a lot of time on GHD's due to the greater ROM. I can bang out regular situps pretty fast especially anchored.

Sore from Barbara and the past week's torture so I concocted my own Wang Fu workout for the day:

Each timed for 5 minutes AMRAP:

Rows (set on #3): 1170m
Pushup Burpees (5 full pushups on each): 26
Double Unders: 130
Ran for 2.5 miles in 85 degree weather.

After 5 weeks since starting CF, I'm extremely excited about my increasing stamina. Now if only my core strength would start to crank!

I don't the # too much as I'm starting near bottom. It's my poor form on the cleans that killed me. Wasn't getting far enough down and they came off closer to power cleans. I realize now my legs were too close (especially considering my bad left calf). Will do some practice w. light weights 'til I get it right.

The sit-ups were actually a nice break.

People... don't get caught up in what each movement is supposed to ALWAYS be. There is no normal movement, they will constantly be varied. Each WOD, each competition, each sectional, each Games will have different standards. That's what makes the unknowable so great, you can't specifically prepare for it.

I think the sit up standard for today's WOD isn't necessarily a universal standard. Just the standard for today, tomorrow's sit up standard might be different. Also, that's how Jason probably did this workout, so for comparison purposes, that's why the sit up standard is what it is.

Good luck to those who are chasing Jason!

5 rounds completed and 5 cleans, Nice WOD, first 3 rounds did them all unbroken (all out), the key to the WOD is while doing the squat cleans don't let the bar go for nothing even if out of Air. once you stop for air it takes to long to get back into the bar, that's what i did (just keep going)I need a WOD buddy bad. end up doing 30 burpees afterwards. :) burpees are getting easier.

Was shooting for 5 - I really like these short, fast ones. Guess it has been awhile since I've done 95# squat cleans, these felt easy at the start. Over time, the pull still felt easy, but the quads were burning on the squat. Unbroken through 3 rounds. After, started breaking both cleans and situps into 2 sets. I like the new situp standard! It doesn't really feel any harder than whatever I was doing, but now I'll be consistently hitting the correct ROM.

Get some!

6 full rounds. Pounded out the last sit up with one second remaining.

How would cut time on this... I took no breaks, only transitions. Being tall doesn't help on the squat clean-- but is there a tip on how to do them faster?

As Rxd with no Abmat, but with arms folded across chest. Hands behind head always gives me a sore neck and I might as well avoid that if I can. Throwing the arms forward to the anchor seems like cheating anyway. Sorry I didn't subscribe to today's arbitrary standard? Nope.
