YESSS! been waitin for Total for months!
I was lucky enough to judge at last years games and will be doing so again this year in L.A but I am glad I got to experience the games where it all started. On a another note it's great so see the games come out from the hills and go prime time in L.a. I can only imagine what that kind of exposure will do for CrossFit.
Congrats on the total Caity - It's the best I've seen!
This score is from a few months ago.

K question on this, reading about the cross fit total and it talked about doing 3 reps can anyone break this down a little more and how i am supposed to accruatley do this work out
is it ideal to be able to back squat or deadlift more?
This was my best score (done a few months ago)

Ian 6,
read the article linked under the words "Crossfit Total".
Frank 3,
Rip was very involved with CF. He ran the Barbell Certs for a while. He knows the moves inside and out. He has many articles and videos on the main CF site and CFJ.
Greg 8,
Most people deadlift more than they can squat. However, Louie Simmons and the Westside guys all squat more than they deadlift (but they are squatting like 900+)....Their totals (with bench, not press) are 2000 to 2500. Ridiculously high! I suspect at somepoint, your hands cannot hold the bar, but for the squat it just goes on your shoulders. I can't confirm that though. It just intuitively makes sense that your wrists would be the weakest part of a deadlift because of the smaller muscles.
I really feel like "run 1 mile" should be added to the end of this workout. I understand the whole idea of "totalling" your poundage for the CrossFit "total," and that it is a test of strength. But it just seems like it would be a perfect overall fitness (in the spirit of CrossFit) test if running, one the most basic human movements, were added to the end...This would also balance out overall scores for us smaller folk. Any thoughts?
#12....if you're "smaller folk" add a strength component to your training. The purpose of the Total is to test how your strength has increased while crossfitting. It isn't supposed to be anything more.
two months ago
Back Squat: 630
Press: 235
Deadlift: 550

I also read the crossfit total article, I am only puzzled on one aspect - although I am new to crossfit I have weight trained previously to this so I am familiar with the three lists - however at he end of the article it states if you do not know you target weight you shouldn't be doing this. My comment is if I know that my numbers or poundages will be very weak does that mean I should do another workout instead of this one. Is that the consensus on here???
Great video of the crossfit games:P Can't wait to see the 2010 version! haha
#12: No. There are days where its specifically bodyweight metcon, there are 5k days, this day is for 1RM testing. This lets you know where you may need to add some extra work, just like if your run time goes down on a different WOD. Plus the energy pathway for this is different than running a mile. Not every workout has to hit all fitness points, its the overall that averages out to total fitness.
#14: It doesn't mean if you're weak don't do the lifts. It means that if you have never done a total you will not have any idea where you will end up. Personally I know approximately what all my 1 rep maxes are so I can guage what is too light to start with or what might be too heavy to start. Just start light and work your way up on all the lifts. If its way too light, then now you know. A part of this is knowing what your thresholds are.
Hope that helps.
I would to do this, but I simply do not have time in the morning before to do all of this. I can do it the next day but in the meantime does anyone have an idea of what MIGHT be tomorrow, so I can sub it for today? I realize that's like guessing the lottery but hey maybe someone is Rain Man and can find a pattern for me. TY

#10, PLers squat more than they deadlift because squat suits help the squat a lot more than deadlift gear helps the deadlift. Also yes, grip becomes a limiting factor at a certain point.
I am looking for someone to take my place at the Crossfit Football ($795US), and Mobility and Recovery ($225US) certifications this May long weekend in Toronto (may 22nd - 24th). Unfortunately I will not be able to attend these two great certs.

Very happy with the numbers, i think i had more in me for the squats, Probably enough for a new PR but didn't go for it. A lot to work in the shoulder press, a far as the Deadlift, actually recorded my self in the garage deadlifting those 410 pounds, I can probably deadlift more weight, looking at the video of my self, the butt came up first before the legs and I rounded my back a little bit. it feels great to have a new PR on the deadlift.

Crossfitting for over 2 years and this is my first post, it also has nothing to do with this WOD; I've just been too busy with school to keep up with the site so I'm always a couple day's behind the WOD.
I have an erg question for any hardcore rowers out in the world wide web -I just got one two weeks ago, to say that I'm in love is an understatement. I weigh 104 kg and can maintain 1:58 500m pace on the 7k with a damper setting of 7 and roughly a 1:54 500m pace on the 5k with a damper setting of 8 -trying to build my way up to the 10k. My question: what is a good damper setting for someone my size and ability for a long row such as the 10k, and a shorter row such as the 5k?
Any tips or advice would help. Thanks
Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to do this one at home, so I'll have to wait till Wednesday. Very immpressive score guys.

I have a question about the shoulder press. Is it done using the legs for momentum as doing one of the Olympic moves or more just a "fixed" shoulder press? Also, when going as heavy as you can, are we allowed to wear a belt for the squats and deadlifts? Maybe the question I should ask, is are they allowed in competitions? Sorry if this has already been covered before.
I lied, I have one more question. When I competed in powerlifting a legal squat had to break parellel. On most of the videos I have watched so far, crossfitters go crazy low. Does this put more pressure on knees and is it safe to go that deep? I am 44 and just don't want to get hurt. Thanks again for your imput.

Today I deviated from main site programing in order to do an annual event, the Indianapolis Mini a half marathon (13.1 mi.) Last year i trained for this with a substantial amount of running for many long hours and sore feet. It was not uncommon for me to run 30 miles a week.
Last year i did the race in 2:06. This year I stuck with main site programing and added about 5 or 6 miles of running a week. Time today was 2:01.
I am in better shape and my capacities are throught the roof. This SH-T works.

I know I missed some work on shoulders and lower back through this month so I'm down 10 lbs each from where I want to be, going to fix that for next time!
2010-05-09: 260pr, 160, 360pr (780). Squats felt best this time. DL's great except grip.
2010-02-23: 255pr,160pr,355pr (770). Felt good on all movements today. Cleanest press since starting CF. May have had more on squats and presses but held back. Want 800 by end of year.

Make up date: 14 May 10: coming off of hamstring strain:
275/135/325 (365 fail- let it go as I felt the back rounding and hamstring starting to strain again) (735). Odd feeling, 325 felt freaking easy: as in, I felt like I could have done it in an unbroken set of 5 reps. It pays to watch the 2009 Games before doing it to put it into perspective, especially after watching Cyndi Frieling dominate 375. Shoulder presses are still the weak link.

What a great day at the gym! I went in confident that I would crush my last total score :) Think I could have increased more than 5 on at least DL, but was happy with this.

Failed at 355 2nd set. Didn't have weight positioned on back very well. Too far up. Good depth & not too tough on last set.

F@395 twice. Very disappointing. Tried to focus on keeping core tight. Forgot about chest & hips I think. Finally dropped to 375.
