I am so blessed to have competed side by side with Amanda in Aromas and to have connected with her via email beyond Aromas.

She was a fighter. She was full of life and optimism the few times we spoke and in reading her blog. Cancer may have over taken her body~it did not over take her spirit.

Fly free my friend, fly free.

Best,

Kim Malz

I hope this doesn't sound too cliche because I post this with deep sincerity, gratitude, and respect toward all in this community who have lost close ones be it to disease, accidents, or war. Like many here, I, too, have been wounded in combat- fortunate enough to walk away with nothing but the loss of two weeks of memory, bad dreams, anger, and the occasional really bad headache; and, as a commander, have spoken at too many memorial services for all to young men, and have seen amazing feats of heroism from the men in my former company. To that vain, I don't throw the word "Hero" (as in, X pro-athlete played heroically with Y injury) and I feel like I understand the weight and meaning of that word.

Simply put, to endure that much pain with that much courage is heroic. In battle, we face the unknown and unknowable, fairly certain that there is a high probability that we will not be injured and will accomplish our mission. Amanda, on the other hand, knew with all likelihood that she faced a losing battle and still endured heroically to the end. So, I will do Hero Amanda tomorrow with pride and a sense of gravity that we have lost another valuable member of our community. Whether or not the semantics of entitling the workout a Hero Workout does not diminish the life and accomplishments of Amanda one bit. Thank you HQ for memorializing this brave woman. Thank you Amanda for touching the lives of many members in our community, and while I didn't know you, I celebrate your courage and grieve for your family's loss. Rest in Peace.

I've never posted about form on this site, but I have a question. Aren't burpees supposed to be done without looking like the worm? I mean, in all of the videos over the last 2 weeks, every person doing a burpee is completely soft when it comes to midline stabilization. Nobody is going chest to deck. None of the bottom portion of the burpees would be considered a legit push up.

I understand the intensity over form argument, however, can't both be accomplished?

Did overhead press at 135 lb (instead of overhead push up) and a 45 lb kettlebell for the swings: 22:58.

Really dragged out the last 20 burpees or so.

I have been crossfitting for 6 weeks after little or no serious excercise since I graduated college (3.5 years ago). My improvement has shocked me, my wife and everyone that knows me. This WOD when I started would have taken 45 minutes at least.

Amanda fought like hell. I'm honored to have competed side by side with her in Aromas 2009 and connected with her via phone and email upon her August 1 diagnosis.

She fought a war against cancer~cancer invaded her body. Cancer did not take her spirit.

Today's WOD done to the CrossFit New England Standards shown in the video.

I remember Amanda from the Games last year - mostly because of your two revolver tattoos. Glanced over the WOD today and must have been in denial - because I saw her photo, saw the dates, but didn't connect the dots.

Now I have... and I just read some of her blog posts... heart wrenching. My heart goes out to her family and friends... I didn't know her personally, but as part of our CrossFit family, feel like I just lost a family member too.

RIP, Amanda.

HSPU's took 9min

I got to do them ''right'' today. I have a new wall where I can extend my legs straight up. Befor I had to bend my knees and put my feel flat on the wall on account of a beam in the way about 5foot up.

HSPU's on 2 35lbs bumper with abmatt in the center. I got 5 in a row then 3's then 2's then 1's here and there. I missed the 29th reps then got it, then ended on my head on 30 and told myself''You are not going to waist this rep, pulled my legs down and kipped my first HSPU ever.

30reps pullups on big bar, then got the last 10.

I wussed out on the KB and only got 30 and broke, I wanted to do it unbroken. Grip and shoulders got me, i need a real KB.

situups unbroken on abmatt.

Burpeed done in 8min, I got 31 reps and broke.

I never knew Amanda. Never-the-less, I am very saddened by the news of her passing. It seems so wrong that a few weeks after competing at the Crossfit Games she was diagnosed with cancer. How does that happen? Hold your loved ones tight and Rest in Peace Amanda. This one was for you... I am sorry it was do darn slow. In your honour, however, I managed all 40 pullups... a feat I have never before accomplished.

Time: 26:28

HSPUs were done off a 25" box and in a pike position (well, it felt like a pike position but I'm sure that to anyone else it probably looked more like a tuck).
All 40 pullups were done... many in singles towards the end.
Burpees killed me pretty much took 10 minutes). As I have said before, Burpees are the devil.

I have been a crossfitter for 3 + years now, but have never posted on the boards before. The simple fact is that I don't think I have anything to say that all you ass kickers haven’t already said in a much better way. I love crossfit and find that a special type of person is willing to put it all on the line day in and day out like a crossfitter. That being said I find it all too easy to complain about aches and pains and tough days after a workout.

Amanda, you would have given anything to do one more workout and have one more time to put it on the line. Today I am shutting up and cranking it out for you girl. Today I will kiss my wife and play with my kids and revel in the fact that I hurt all over. And I will thank God for the chance to have one more kick ass workout.

It's not fair! Do you hear me? Look, I get it, no one ever said life is supposed to be fair, but deep down we all want it to be fair, and when someone like Amanda has to leave way, way too soon, it just really pisses me off. The battery in my truck died so I had to improvise and go to the playground.

I packed up a backpack with 50+#s inside. I think swinging around a backpack is alot more harder then a DB or a KB...

It took me about 16 minutes to get through those HSPUs RX'D but I did!

Pull-Ups were on a wide bar

Burpees always take me forever and I kept on losing count. I probably did more then what I counted...

My Time: 32:30

I wasn't so worried about the time. I'm just happy to get through all those HSPUs without scaling down!

I had to use 55 lb dumbell for the kettlebell swings... we don't have kettlebells. I was much faster than I thought I'd be in the first rounds, but the burpees caught up to me and I slowed down a lot on them... I did sets of 10 with a few seconds rest and then did 20 without break at the end.... fun WOD.

#172 Timmer - I checked the burpee demo to verify that I was correct.

The reason I asked, is because the burpees done in all of the recent videos are a joke. No midline stabilization - it looks like the worm. Much faster to do that way, but half as useful.

If we're going to name a WOD after Amanda, I vote that it involves some of these movements:

Deads: She hated them and always felt they were a weakness

MUs: I remember when she got her first one. Very shortly after that, she did 30 of them. She was so very proud of that.

Burpees: Her fundraiser for the Games, and for the slap of the belly that always let you know she was doing them. She made them look like cake.

One legged erging (rowing): After her surgery, I watched her erging away in my living room, with a frisbee under the foot of the healing leg. I was so glad I hadn't sold that erg yet!

Amanda inspired many and was truly every bit as strong in private as she is portrayed in a public forum. She had not a chink in her armor. I watched her crush herself on every WOD. If anyone thinks she was strong at the Games, they should have seen her after! She turned into a 100% freak after that in preparation for the 2010 Games. She was beautiful in every way. Her laugh was infectious and her smile never had any effect but to warm the heart of anyone who saw it. We all carry her spirit in our hearts. Whenever you feel like taking one more breath in a pause in a WOD, give that breath to her and pick up the barbell again. See you on the flip side, sweetie. You were the definition of beauty in strength. I'll always love you and miss you.

6 HSPU

Did not do this workout anywhere close to the order shown above (jumped back and forth between exercises several times before completing all the reps), but instead just focused on completing the total reps.
