Is there a rest in between rounds?
Is there a rest between rounds?
that's multiplying bodyweight by .67 because i know people gonna be askin. of course you could also divide your body weight by three, then multiply that number by two; then you would receive the exact answer to the mathmatical question of 2/3 bodyweight. consequently, you could also multiply your body weight by two, then divide that number by 3. this would also give you an exact answer.
Is there a time component to this or is it Lynn style?
M/45yrs/5'6/210#
if it doesn't say "for time," then you can rest between rounds. usually about 3 minutes is fine. some people would rest around 5 minutes; personally i like to keep up the pace a little bit more than that, but it's up to you.
i think this is like Lynn where its max reps as much rest as needed
I'll be doing this Lynne style. Pull ups immediately after thrusters, rest a minute or 2 and go again.
should be a good one
looking foreward to it
Liz is hot, just sayin...
That picture does not express how freaking cold it was out there.
very nice wod, a new twist. the varity will never end...
Question:
On the thruster move, is the press at the top more of a press move, or do you kind of throw your weight into it. I mean is it concise where you almost have a pause at the top of the squat and you press it, or do you throw the momentum from the squat into the press?
Hmmm, thinking of a name for this one...
How about "Miranda"
Looks like Lynne but with thrusters instead of bench presses.
so liz warren goes from work to crossfit and gets home in time to see her kids go to bed. her husband gets mad at her because she's not around to help out because she's working out. great story. uplifting.
liz, i hate to be judgmental but you're choosing working out over spending time with your own kids--including a 1.5 year old! for what?
one day you're going to wake up and the kids will be grown and you'll be full of regret that you didn't spend more time with them. kids are only young once. they'll be plenty of time to be selfish later.
from a fellow parent who gave up ironman triathlon so i didn't have to choose between a 6hr bike ride and spending an afternoon at the playground.
i really hope you will reprioritize your life.
Luv the picture...working out by the lake Nice...our gym is across from a lake :)
Have not posted for a yr. Been doing CF for 6 yrs. know, level 1 cert, and 5 wks ago blew the Brachial Plexus of the left arm. Wow my friends, this has been a crusher both physically and emotionally as an athlete and as a human being. In 48 yrs..., never having sustained a major athletic injury, the impact has been severe, and its my fault. The problem: Form!! An absence of form to compete with the clock at times! So to you, my dear CF community, to all the trainers, never ever let you or those that you coach lose perfect form, and more important, control. This injury has set me back at least 7 month, got great people helping, but at the end of the day, its me. From this point on, chest up, shoulders back, chin back! Remember Perfect form!
#18. . .
Liz's kids are getting much more from watching and experiencing mommy go after something as difficult as the Games than you could obviously imagine.
Many more children watch their parents eat themselves to death while practicing sloth, therefore sentencing their children to the same fate.
Training for the Games is temporary. . .the benefits to her and her family are foever

At The Garage Games it was retardedly cold, sickly wet,and bad dirty masochistic fun!Great event, seen some stud athletes (men and women )in action, but i still think it was run heavy(but only because my hip was injured).Good Times!
sorry for mis-spellings. . .got pissed. . .LOL!
Nice to see CrossFit Milford represented on the main site.
Jay, your new spot looks amazing from the video coverage!
sweet pic!! Garage Games 2010! Good times...
My mom was always active when I was young thankfully! She was a great role model and I'm sure part of the reason I grew up to care about fitness and nutrition and health and my body is because I watched her care. Liz is giving her kids a gift that is worth more than anything.....her priorities are right where they need to be!
just wondering ppls opinion on performing the tabata WOD today although i did LINDA yesterday and chest is pretty fried? comments would be appreciated
ha.. i wish I weighed closer to 120 lbs.. then maybe, just maybe I'd make it through this wod. 100 lbs is doubtful. is there a clever substitute for the females?
like 60% of 2/3 body weight thrusters. I like that one much better.
Oh the ice cold memories of that weekend...
That was the most fun I have had at an event. Can't wait for Garage Games 2011!!

#18... Bottom line, she is pursuing a goal and she has the support of her husband and kids. That is a decision that they made as a family which you have no say. You chose to stop training for your tri; that was the right decision for you. That DOES NOT make it the right decision for everyone.
Wow, Liz looks amazing! 3 kids...unbelievable, her husband is a lucky guy. It is hard to balance family life and Crossfit. Everyone is different, what works for Liz is her business.
Liz seems pleasant and fun; good luck as you compete. I can't get over your muscle definition.
Designing that Sandbag Dead-lift WOD was the best. Knew that having the DL on the lake would be memorable, but man, I love looking back at the pics now.
I appreciate you guys coming on and commenting, be sure to keep checking the Garage Games Web Site...
http://GarageGames2010.CrossFitGarage.com New pics keep going up, and we will have a full length DVD Trailer soon, we are pouring over hours and hours of footage to get the best stuff together.
And yes, we have potential dates for a Fall Event for the best competitors, another Winter GG 2011, and a Spring/Summer "GG 2011 and a half".
Already discussing site upgrades with the YMCA!
Love the site picture. That was before the Dead lift holes were established! Nothing like doing a 315 deadlift with one foot on a tree root with the other foot sinking in mud!
I second the comment that the picture gives no justice to how friggin' cold and windy it was!
Most fun I've ever had at any CF event! The garage games are worth traveling for!
YEAHHHHHHH Lizzzzzz!
You are awesome! I remember your first week at x-fit when you almost beat me (I believe it was mere seconds...) in "Nancy." You are a natural athlete that backs it up with hard work and a lot of heart. You are going to kill the sectionals! You are my inspiration to procreate...if I can CrossFit like you, and have 3 babies...I'm in sista! Keep killin' it!
DAMN, this cycle was awesome...gettin strong work outs.
Eveyone Enjoy
After Linda. I love the pain! Way to finish off the three day run!!!! I think I will take the Saturday rest.
Any word on infant crossfit? My wife thought I was crazy because I would move my little girl through "simulated" crossfit workouts every day. Now she's 7 months old and already standing on her own!!! She loves when daddy gets home and "crossfits" her. Now, if only I could find some miniature rings for when she gets bigger. I think she has a muscle up in her! 2030 crossfit womans champion in the making!
Thank you crossfit for making me healthy and able to extend my life so I can enjoy my family much longer, and also for improving my quality of life! Hitting this WOD at 4:30 am as always!!!
3, 2, 1... GO!!!!!!!!!!!
# 18: please email me personally...
My name is Lauren. I worked with Liz at a inner city high school for 2 years...YOU NEVER IN YOUR F*@ING LIFE...met a more positive role model for children...
Liz is positive...
Liz rises above...
Liz is charismatic...
Liz is confident...
Liz is STRONG...in every definition of the word...
I believe that much of this has been created by athleticism.
For many of us athleticism dies after college.
Liz found it in CrossFit.
Anyone who is married, and is realistic enough to say it, knows that there are times when there is a difference in passions...THAT'S WHAT KEEPS MARRIAGE GOING!
Her husband, Dave, is proud of her. She wouldn't be the wife he feel in love with if she became inactive and sedentary...he LOVES that she stays driven through CrossFit.
Let me present this...
90% of American moms have resigned themselves to high-waisted "mom" jeans and play dates...Liz goes to CrossFit...
I'd be willing to conduct a study, but I'd bet a girl like her would be less likely to become "bored" or "dissatisfied" in her marriage and leave her husband and children like so many women that I went to high school with.
So # 18...Leave the counseling to Dr. Phil until you learn a little something about this CrossFitter....
The Garage Games were awesome. The weather was freakin' unbelievable, I mean, come on, freezing in February in Georgia? But the competitors just kept bringing it, even in the sleet. A very inspiring group of athletes and a hard working bunch of volunteers came together and brought an excellent event. Can't wait for the next Garage competition!
I love CrossFit. I am obsessed with it. With that framework I offer the following comment:
I am offended by this woman's negligence of her family. If it were a man interviewed I would offer the following comment: I am of offended by this man's negligence of his family. The fact that it came up in the 2 minute interview that her husband "gets mad... a lot" suggests that there are some deeper issues at play here. I do not think we should be glamorizing the pursuit of CrossFit above lifelong responsibilities. For this individual, CrossFit and the pursuit of glory through victory appears to be as much of an addiction as gambling or the images that lead to eating disorders. I don't think we should reward this behavior.
This wod is like a jacked up "fran"..sorta.I'm gonna do all 5 rds without stopping! And just take the max reps I get at that pace..I think that makes the most sense with this wod..for me anyway.
This will be my first wod! Thanks for the inspiration Liz.
Sidelined with tendinitis/bursitis of my shoulder
physical therapy and squat improvement for today
Not knowing much about Liz...other than what a 3 min video can tell...And not being a threat to Mikko Salo for the 2010 Games, I guess I'll just offer this for whoever cares to accept/praise/bash this comment.
I really enjoy Crossfit but I have a young family - three lovely girls 7,4, and 2. I get my gym time in at 5AM. No one is awake in my house at that time. I can kill it for an hour, get ready for work, spend all day there and come home to my family at 5:30-6:00 and spend the rest of the evening with them, helpe with dinner, bath, bedtime, the whole works.
Children need both parents, but especially their mother when they are young. My wife is great with our kids, but I do not make her do it alone. An hour a day of crossfit will get you in tremendous shape and strong as a bull.
My lovely bride and I decided to have three wonderful children and by doing that, they need to be our priority.
If Liz is a serious contender to win the games, that's one story...but if she is just someone who really enjoys Crossfit like I suspect 90% of us are, reschedule XFit for the am, and enjoy both fitness and family.

Hey,
Quick comment. Before we gang up (or not) on what Liz's goals and her commitment to them vs family life, I suggest we use the time and energy to think about our own commitments and family life. I know there are times when I've been home with the kids and annoyed that my wife is pursuing too much xyz. And I know there are times I stiffed her with a boatload of responsibility that I couldn't help her with (grad school, stint in high travel corporate life) and it wasn't fair. If Liz's marriage is anything like mine, spouses wax and wane on their careers, hobbies, athletics and everything else over the course of 15 years. As such a quick comment about her husband getting frustrated with her training could be either indicative of a deeper problem, or it could be the normal churn of a marriage. We don't have enough (any) information to know that it's the first, so to be charitable, I will assume that it's the second. She looks like a big girl, and I'm sure she is the one who is best equipped to understand the pressure of competing commitments that most grownups have to navigate. What matters (to me at least) is that despite all the ebbs and flows of who is doing what in a marriage, both partners keep their eyes on their long term goals and keep the marriage solid. And we can't see that in a 3 minute video.
Thanks Crossfit for the revolution, and the inspiration. I'm off to figure out how to do yesterday's WOD with the equipment I have.

Does anybody else have the problem of crushing the bar off their collar bone when lowering the weight from over head to the front rack? i.e. PJ, PP, thrusters... it really takes the breath out of me every time and leaves a nasty mark.

Tabata row. Forgot to adjust the damper, didn't notice it was set at 10 until the third interval. Left it there, set a PR in meters: 803m, 64 cals (2 9's up top, 2 7's in rounds 6 and 7, the rest 8's)
When I used to row 7500m-10k every day, I always set it at 10. Only recently---since coming to CF---have I been using lower damper settings (4,5,6). Think I'll stick with 10. The caffeine gum may have helped, too.

Wow - sorry if I caused a controversy... I appreciate all of the comments, negative and positive. I can understand all of them. I am also a teacher so that provides me with a lot of time with my family. When you get out of work at 4:00 and go to the gym you don't get home til 6:30. 5:30 is out, I do morning duty - 3 kids out the door by 7:20, my husband is already gone to work. The kids come to crossfit with me and my eldest even takes classes. My husband is supported by me/family while he coaches football - this is my season. I wonder if this was a male on video if anyone would have thought twice about it.

Parenting is easily the most humbling thing I've ever done. So humbling, in fact, that the idea of passing judgment on any other parent, especially when all you will ever see is the tip of the iceberg, strikes me as total folly. Except in outlier cases (violence against a child, for example) the notion that anyone outside the immediate family---total strangers!--- could offer an unsolicited parenting critique that's worth anything is insane.
It's worse than insane. When it comes to parenting, tying actions to outcomes is a fool's game. Every parent knows this, even if sometimes some of us think we can treat our kids as projects, like building a deck. There is no blueprint or schematic that gets you Child X. I don't even know what "good parent" means; I only know what "loving parent" means, and that's what I strive to be. I'll bet Liz does, too.
Good luck, Liz. Illegitimi Non Carborundum.

#69 and #74 if you read the comments multiple people said they'd same the same thing if it was dad that had made the comment. Glad you explained a little cause the comment was probably playing into the "Look I am eXtream!!!!" thing cause it made it sound like you were hardly ever home and that Hubby and kids complained about it....a lot. if you would have said "I get off work by 5:30 and I work out and am home by 6:30 then no one would have commented. Remember the fun of the internet is when you go on internet video trying to sound extream into something then everyone will comment publicly and the video never really disappears.
In the end does it matter what people on the internet think about you?
Also the entry cost and spectator cost make me say that I hope the garage games and other affiliate ran competitions go forward and jot just corporate HQ stuff. Open source should = let the people run with it and take it. I am glad this was a success
Liz - exactly - somehow I do not see these comments when a male is describing his workout week or if the wife is complaining.
Keep up the good work, you inspired me, a relatively new Crossfitter to work hard, despite having two children and a full time job.
liz is doing something positive, working out
not hanging out at bars with her girlfriends,
drinking and being a barwhore.
Glad to see the garage games get a shout on the mainsite. I was at the GG and it was really well organized, had solid competition, and a slick website. Also, their programming made the event very interesting as the big guys had to run more than once. Best of all... no entry fee for spectators!!!

Really had to work up to this WOD. My back was so tight from Linda. I spent 1 hour trying to get to the point were I could even do a thruster.
Liz,
Too many women feel they always need to be there for their family and in the process they deny themselves any type of outlet. The stereo type being propogated from some people on this board comes from all the old black and white sitcoms where mom was dressed really nice and had dinner waiting for dad to come home.
Unfortunately, the outcome is that they become unfullfilled, secretly hate their lives and their families all because they feel imprisoned by their responsibilities. So, what do they do? They come home regret their lives, prop their feet up in front of a tv and claim they are spending quality time with their children.
What type of role model is this for their kids?
I'm positive that your life is balanced and that you share household responsibilities with your husband. I'll also bet they he has outlets of his own and that you spend time with your children while he is pursuing them.
3,2,1, GO.... Train hard, I'm looking forward to seeing you at the games this summer with you family proudly supporting you.

After Linda as Rx'd yesterday, I'm not sure I can do anything involving legs/lower back. I've been at CF for more than a year, but Linda destroys me every time. When I got up this morning, my first thought was that I had been in an accident. But then I remembered old Linda.

#108 cole,
I was not serious in my posts. I'm used to winter but we're entering the dog days here (mid Feb)...a joke is needed every now & then to keep us sane.
Take or leave comments from a mom who let herself go in the name of sacrificing everything for faminly and kids. Now struggling with obesity and total lack of self-esteeem. Now feeling like these issues are negatively effecting my family.
Taking time for yourself is sooooooo important. Good for you Liz. I hope someday to be able to compete against you. I'm taking over my life again.

Yes I could have pulled more pullups. I got 27 the first and second set. I had to fight for the next 2 rounds to get them. I hit 23 and hung on the bar and got my swing going for the rest. On set 5 it was like that from 23 on but I never came off the bar, just hung for a second to get my swing going right again.
Thrusters I thought I'd get 30 the first go, I was luck for the 20. sets 2,3,4, were chasing 15 reps. Breathing after 5 or so reps got me. i had to focus real hard to controll my breathing.
After round 5 of the thrusters i got light headed a little form breathing. I hit 12 reps and just kept shoving to get the 15 reps, no controll on breathing.
Good workout, arms and lungs are toast. Quads hams glutes feeling the thrusters.

Okay...finished this over an hour ago and can just now sit down and type. Almost saw Pukie on the 4th and 5th rounds. As hard as this was, it has to have a name, I'm thinking "Frynne" since it has aspects of both Lynne and Fran. I rested about 3 minutes between rounds, maybe a little more between the last two. Great cycle Coach!

Felt extremely weird after finishing this WOD. I kinda felt like i had to throw up...and that feeling somehow reverberated all the way through my arms, particularly the forearms. Never felt that before so i was slightly confused. Just had to chill for a few minutes though and it went away thankfully.
