well that photo will generate some head turning for time!

Very creative!

I was wondering...is anybody else having trouble w/ their legs recovering lately. My legs are shot over the last couple weeks. I get out of breath just walking up the stairs cause they are so broke down. Just wondering!

Comment #2 - Posted by: jeffdpoll at February 11, 2010 5:23 PM

well Rehoboth beach next summer baby!

Comment #3 - Posted by: Ido at February 11, 2010 5:23 PM

@Thomi, I couldn't agree more. There's nothing wrong with erring on the side of classy.

Comment #4 - Posted by: phil at February 11, 2010 5:23 PM

Are you kidding? If you've been working so hard to get such a great body then show it off proudly. That goes for guys and girls.

Comment #5 - Posted by: randomfire at February 11, 2010 5:25 PM

Could have gotten a better picture of her face.

I am sure she does not mind being on the main site IF she sent the photo in....so everyone else should respect that.

Comment #6 - Posted by: simmer67 at February 11, 2010 5:26 PM

@#17 randomfire, hard work and, ahem, a little moola for the doctor...

Comment #7 - Posted by: desertfour at February 11, 2010 5:27 PM

I like the photo, but respect everyone's opinion. I am not sure if this has ever been brought up before...but how about a CF calendar? That way, some of the gorgeous females can proudly display their hard work...and CF can make some money off of it. I would pay for it. Someone might put together a dude calendar too, but I'm not paying for that one.

Comment #8 - Posted by: bs2103 at February 11, 2010 5:30 PM

I second the calendar idea!!

Comment #9 - Posted by: yestocalendaridea at February 11, 2010 5:31 PM

Think of it as creative advertising. The next time someone googles "hot woman working out" they might discover crossfit on google image's website and begin a life transformation. In that sense, thank you crossfit for changing some pervert's, i mean, some person's life.

Comment #10 - Posted by: sexican m/26/6'/185 at February 11, 2010 5:32 PM

Holy CrossFit batman

Comment #11 - Posted by: Kirkland at February 11, 2010 5:32 PM

I like the photo. When you work hard you might as well show it off.

Comment #12 - Posted by: jc at February 11, 2010 5:33 PM

I know I wouldn't feel comfortable if my wife was looking over my shoulder at today's picture. I admire CrossFit in many ways, but I would agree with others who see this pic as being in poor taste.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Acord at February 11, 2010 5:33 PM

Good job she has hat, gloves and boots on, it looks cold!....

....seriously people lighten up, nothing wrong with looking good and having some fun is there?

(if this was a pic of a guy in board shorts, I'm sure there would be no problems)

Comment #14 - Posted by: ENGLAND at February 11, 2010 5:33 PM

Great picture. Just goes to show what CrossFit can do for the human body.
Nobody ever complains about all the guys with shirts off

Comment #15 - Posted by: Adam at February 11, 2010 5:37 PM

she could catch a cold dressed like that...gee whiz

Comment #16 - Posted by: BurgundyActual at February 11, 2010 5:37 PM

I am very grateful to CrossFit for the free content that is provided on this site. I completely respect the fact that they can put up whatever they want. However, I would love to at least see an NSFW tag or something like that on these types of photos.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Lucas at February 11, 2010 5:37 PM

aren't there half naked dudes on this page like every other day? who cares.

Comment #18 - Posted by: jnl at February 11, 2010 5:38 PM

Well put England. Seriously, lighten up. Appreciate the irony. They never get snow in DE, so clearly this woman is making the best of it.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Tommy at February 11, 2010 5:39 PM

lmao #2!!!! Honestly though lighten up people... This pic proves that women doing crossfit are strong, sexy and hot which is why more women should do it!! I'd take her over some skinny model any day!!

Comment #20 - Posted by: Nick E at February 11, 2010 5:45 PM

I'm with #40. Lighten up.

It's photos like this that keep the boys across seas going strong and THOSE are the ones that made this whole program a huge success in the first place.

Comment #21 - Posted by: Damian at February 11, 2010 5:49 PM

Hard to complain, with the SI Swimsuit issue just out.
I think a "functionally fit" bod is way sexier, anyway.
Rock on.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Thomas Gunning at February 11, 2010 5:51 PM

Not my favorite pic, but good for her and honestly it won't affect my workouts because at the end of the day it's just a picture. Now I want to see a crossfit hottie (dude) in a speedo...haha laugh guys! No, but seriously!

Comment #23 - Posted by: EmRedpointCrossfit at February 11, 2010 5:51 PM

Half the photos posted are of guys with nothing but their shorts on showing off their ripped musculature and tattooes and now a woman is posted wearing a swimsuit and everybody loses their minds. This makes no sense.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Joe at February 11, 2010 5:54 PM

I can send in a pic of a bunch of crossfit men in Ranger panties!!! NOW that's HOT!

Comment #25 - Posted by: EmRedpointCrossfit at February 11, 2010 5:55 PM

It amazes me when people think they have the right to dictate what others do. Worry about your own life.

There are two great videos of Jason Kalipa and Crossfit Stongman, but we focus on a picture.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Kuma m/24/170/6'4" at February 11, 2010 5:56 PM

Picture... Yes.

Everyone stop hatein. This girls looks smokin, why not show it off.

To the guy who "would never put pics of his wife up" GOOD DON"T THEN, just shut up.

Comment #27 - Posted by: GregP at February 11, 2010 5:57 PM

Since when did the focus switch from functionality to looks? It always used to be that the looks were an added benefit to the functionality...wish there was a NSFW pop up before this page came up on my work computer

Comment #28 - Posted by: Marc at February 11, 2010 5:59 PM

Awesome. Just awesome. Well done Lauren!

Comment #29 - Posted by: CraigH at February 11, 2010 6:00 PM

LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE! if you work hard for your body you have the god-given right to show it off. You women want to be treated as equals?... then get used to hearing "double standard" around the water cooler more often. Love the pic, now take one of a dude in a speedo and let's see peoples reactions ; )

Comment #30 - Posted by: D Hutchins at February 11, 2010 6:01 PM

Wow, nice to see the women of Crossfit are doing everything in their power to be noticed. And some of you make fun of those at the globo gyms for looking in the mirror...I think this is along the same lines.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Allen Reid at February 11, 2010 6:02 PM

are you serious? Gloves? I'm a big fan but she's worried about her hands getting cold.......
okay :-)

I hate to comment, because i think it's childish, but i think the picture is awesome! i wish i would have thought of that!!!

people who are hating, are probably (fat) jealous women, or uptight, insecure men.

Comment #34 - Posted by: Katie 25/f/140/5'3" at February 11, 2010 6:08 PM

Love the picture! I should try that pose here too :)
Bingo... some people needs explanation, lol

haters-you are all jealous, uptight, and most definitely insecure people...grow up.

Comment #40 - Posted by: Katie 25/f/140/5'3" at February 11, 2010 6:12 PM

Love the pic. Any girls out there checking out CrossFit for the first time are bound to be inspired. She obviously works hard, and she SHOULD show everyone that CrossFit works great for women's bodies and their fitness goals as well; maybe that will help expand the female CrossFit community and get them off the ellipitcals. Girls+Crossfit=awesome

Comment #41 - Posted by: Bike2Live at February 11, 2010 6:19 PM

She's wearing a bikini in a beach town where there happens to be snow right now....it's a joke. It's not porn. If this photo made you uncomfortable at work or around your wife that is your own mind taking it there. If you think this is inappropriate for your kids, then apparently you never take them to the beach. To each his own, but how your interpret the photo is a projection of yourself...not of this woman or of Crossfit.

Comment #42 - Posted by: Erin at February 11, 2010 6:24 PM

haha whats is this the 1920's!! grow up!

Comment #43 - Posted by: jesse laramee at February 11, 2010 6:24 PM

could have done without this picture...Love strong beautiful women, how about a side shot rather then the angle presented today? Love crossfit, love the women and the men. Want my daughter to see tasteful crossfit, not this. She is beautiful, represent her that way next time.

Comment #44 - Posted by: ID at February 11, 2010 6:25 PM

I remember Jolie Gentry having a picture on the beach a couple of years ago holding an identical pose with a kettlebell. Just a different angle. Maybe this was Jessica Beebe's way of showing off her Jolie-esque abilities. Regardless, it's no one's position to judge how classy or unclassy an individual is. I think she is a pretty tough girl for doing it.

Comment #45 - Posted by: clovis martin at February 11, 2010 6:30 PM

has anyone clicked on the RBB link? Is this the future of crossfit? The place looks like a health spa not a box...

Comment #46 - Posted by: dan m at February 11, 2010 6:31 PM

Wish that there was a video to go along with the photo...For those complaining...let us focus on the form. Good mid line stability (see transmission journal entry), good squat depth...heels on the ground (even though in boots), and full arm extension for the KB snatch. Overall, I would have to say that she is doing a good job showing the tenets of the fundamentals of crossfit...and looking good doing it. When the calendar comes out, sign me up for a subscription. I really enjoyed the one from the Crossfit Games 2009. Great stuff.

There was a comment about there never being snow in DE? 7 years ago I got engaged before the big snow storm of 2003. When a nor'easter comes up the coast, DE almost always gets hammered. As does Baltimore, MD. I am currently stuck in Illinois waiting for a flight back to Philly.

In regards to the previous rest day article...since that is what today's focus is supposed to be...develop your mind...

I really like the idea of putting people in charge of a certain area. It provides ownership of an area. It promotes self-worth.

In the crossfit community, is there someone who is taking charge of a certain area? For instance, is someone doing research on more metabolic conditioning research? We seem to be getting several journal entries on strength training ala Louie Simmons and David Tate. This is similar to the KB training videos with Jeff Martone. There is also someone in charge of training the rower, POSE running method, etc.

Just my $0.02.

I look forward to reading the article on teaching. How it could apply to crossfit and our daily lives in teaching others...

Just a thought on future articles to read...there are several articles from Peter Schiff on economics. There are several articles from 321gold.com...Doctor Robert Schoon...etc. (And yes, I did see the articles on von Hayek) As much as people spend on investing time on their bodies researching on this site, it would be wise to instruct others on how to invest properly in these muddled times...Another $0.02.

Comment #47 - Posted by: Stuart at February 11, 2010 6:32 PM

Nice kettlebell snatch!

Haha! Rest day and 58 comments within first hour. Classic! Love the pic.

Comment #48 - Posted by: Ronnieboy at February 11, 2010 6:33 PM

Yeah she should have toughed it out and skipped the boots and gloves... and suit... Polar Bear Kettlebells anyone?

Comment #49 - Posted by: roden at February 11, 2010 6:34 PM

All I know is that I am working out at that CF gym when I live at Bethany Beach, DE for the summer.........
She could easily kick my butt so I'm not gunna say a damn thing.

Comment #50 - Posted by: Dizzy at February 11, 2010 6:34 PM

Yoga pants and a workout shirt would have gotten the point across just the same. Now I'm hesitant to open up the CF main page anywhere, even at home. I'm just wondering if that's recommended attire for CF competitions or certifications? I guess it's one way to attract clients.

Comment #51 - Posted by: Bill at February 11, 2010 6:35 PM

I can't believe people are freaking out about a woman in a bikini. Grow up...

Comment #52 - Posted by: DW at February 11, 2010 6:36 PM

Nothing says elite fitness like a barely there bikini.

Comment #53 - Posted by: Bob at February 11, 2010 6:37 PM

I'm all about seing a ripped guy or a chick with a rockin bod in FUNCTIONAL but sexy CF attire, like #53 says. It's motivational. The guys are hot and the women give me something to aspire to. But this picture is def not what I aspire to. This belongs more so on the cover of Maxim. Not that I have a problem with Maxim, but that's not what I come to CF for. Def not my fave photo-doesn't make sense, although the girl obviously looks good.

Comment #54 - Posted by: HTown at February 11, 2010 6:38 PM

Just wait till the summer! Guys and girls crossfit calenders should be in the making for some resale! And to start blowing SI out of the water! I'd take more than half of you crossfiting ladies over those skinny twigs that can't do a pull up!

Comment #55 - Posted by: Weaver at February 11, 2010 6:42 PM

I bet if I send in a pic of me doing a 200 lb ohs while on vacay in hawaii wearing snow clothes it wont get posted. Wonder why??? lol

Comment #56 - Posted by: Justine at February 11, 2010 6:42 PM

Was that the middle of a turkish get up?

Comment #57 - Posted by: Phil C 48/m/160 at February 11, 2010 6:46 PM

Justine -

I ask myself, where were all these people against objectification two months ago?

Comment #58 - Posted by: Kelly at February 11, 2010 6:46 PM

Never mind. Couldn't have been a turkish get-up. There would have been a snow angel.

Comment #59 - Posted by: Phil C 48/m/160 at February 11, 2010 6:48 PM

Comment #61 - Posted by: Cesar / Bravo CrossFit at February 11, 2010 6:50 PM

Where was all the negativity the other day with the girl half nekkid doing a pull-up in Canada? Same thing. Just Sayin'

Comment #62 - Posted by: Phil C 48/m/160 at February 11, 2010 6:53 PM

Great pic...anyone who doesn't like it is odd

Comment #63 - Posted by: keith at February 11, 2010 6:53 PM

This isn't girlscouts or the church camp. This is Crossfit. Seriously, everyone has spent more time bitching about the picture than it would take to load the page, scribble down the wod (or thank God for a rest day) and scram.

I'M PCSing to Dover in the next 30 days and am (really) looking forward to meeting Jessica. If it's still snowy in DE when I get there, you can bet your ass I'll be Crossfitting barefoot in boardshorts...and not much else.

Comment #64 - Posted by: Mike Mathers at February 11, 2010 6:55 PM

Since I brought up the calendar idea (today anyway), I get to pick a few months...Jessica automatically gets February. Eva gets September since my birthday is on the 24th...and Jolie gets whatever other month she wants.

Comment #65 - Posted by: bs2103 at February 11, 2010 6:55 PM

Comment #67 - Posted by: Brett at February 11, 2010 6:56 PM

#54 Erin - I completely agree.

It's 2010 - Lighten up people - or go back to the 1950's. I don't care which...

Comment #68 - Posted by: tyler 30/m/200/6' at February 11, 2010 6:59 PM

There were absolute fits a few months ago over all of this and the most vicious attacks against anyone talking about objectification came from women. It was odd.

Comment #69 - Posted by: Kelly at February 11, 2010 6:59 PM

is this pic real? im surprised nobody brought this up? where are the rest of her tracks? look behind her to the right- there are holes in the snow that appear to be a good 6 inches deep, yet shes balancing on top of the snow? this looks like a photoshop my friends...

any photo aficionados wanna weigh in?

Comment #70 - Posted by: ray bergeron at February 11, 2010 7:07 PM

Comment #71 - Posted by: Lucas@Spokaloo at February 11, 2010 7:08 PM

how did she not melt all the snow around her

Comment #72 - Posted by: mike m/34/5'10"/175lbs at February 11, 2010 7:14 PM

I have a big problem with this picture. For the main site to have someone with so much weight on her toes and knees forward is bad. I mean come on look at that shin angle.

Comment #73 - Posted by: Pat Fleming at February 11, 2010 7:20 PM

Both=Very impressive vids!

Comment #74 - Posted by: Steven M. Platek, Ph.D. at February 11, 2010 7:22 PM

there's a pretty clear shadow of her in the snow....

I can't believe people are actually making demands about how covered up an adult woman should be. There is nothing sexual about this photo at all. I think people might be uncomfortable with how awesome she looks...both in technique and body composition. I would take freedom of expression with the risk of a few tasteless comments over oppression any day. I hope more photos like this are posted...censoring this would be a huge step backwards for women (might as well cover our arms, legs, hair and faces and wear all black).

Comment #75 - Posted by: kate at February 11, 2010 7:22 PM

Huge props to Lauren Plumey at the Hybrid Challenge. Awesome work! I literally yelled at the computer for you to lift that last Atlas Stone.

Jessica from RBB. Looking very Cross-fit + a sense of humor. That's a great combination. Keep warm East Coast!

Comment #78 - Posted by: ray bergeron at February 11, 2010 7:32 PM

Bizzarre pic??

Do you mean the bike on one wheel on the top of a park bench, 3 men doing exercises on the gun of tank or a person climbing a frozen waterfall?

Great photo and technique Jessica !!

Comment #80 - Posted by: jami at February 11, 2010 7:38 PM

No I got it. The BIZZARE pic is the cute lady doing pullups on what appears to be a football goal post, in CANADA, kicking up snow as she kips ,in shorts and a tank top right?

Funny do not remember that many comments then.

Comment #81 - Posted by: Kevin McClellan at February 11, 2010 7:43 PM

Men or women, swimsuits or not, as long as the photo is a legit workout scenario...

I doubt she works out like that.

Comment #82 - Posted by: Jess at February 11, 2010 7:48 PM

The PC Police are out in force tonight. Maybe CF HQ should only put up pictures of women in smocks.

Awesome picture, she's gorgeous.

Comment #84 - Posted by: Dave at February 11, 2010 7:57 PM

Continuing threat of international terrorism, hundreds of thousands of troops in harm's way, 10% unemployment and generational national debt . . . and we're squabbling about a picture of a woman working out in a bikini? Really?

Comment #87 - Posted by: djp at February 11, 2010 8:00 PM

Awesome picture...keep them coming! Thanks I needed a new screen saver.

Comment #88 - Posted by: DWag_AZ at February 11, 2010 8:07 PM

great pic, funny to think there is that much snow in a beach town. I think people should stop being judgemental and grow up a little. As for a family site, if you haven't ever taken you children swimming and seen girls in a similiar get up then get out from under the rock you live under.

Comment #89 - Posted by: jt at February 11, 2010 8:11 PM

She looks like she is putting too much weight on her toes, needs to be back more on her heals.

P.S. I'm moving to Deleware.

Comment #90 - Posted by: jb at February 11, 2010 8:15 PM

For those of you who think that a disapproving comment about the picture is an indication of prudishness, up-tightness or general un-coolness, I would ask you to consider that none of the following elements of that photo are objectionable on their own:
- woman
- quantity of skin,
- red bikini,
- being under-dressed,
- posture,
- public display of the photo on a fitness website.

What makes these combined elements objectionable (for some more and for some less so) is the context in which they are viewed, a society in which women are discrimated against and exploited based on exactly the attributes that this picture emphasizes, isolates, and packages.

You can say that if the picture was of a man doing a swing in a bikini bottom it would be unobjectionable. Firstly, you won't ever see a picture of a man with his legs spread in a bikini bottom doing a kettlebell swing centred on his groin on the Crossfit mainpage. Secondly, even if you did, the social context for that picture would be different. Men are not objectified in the same way women are, their sexualized bodies are not commonplace, they do not form the part of the wallpaper of our society, of the shared experience of mainstream society in the way womens' sexualized bodies do. Sexualization, for women of a certain age, is in many respects part of the price of admission to mainstream society.

Crossit just made the price that much higher.

As far as the rest day article goes, giving employees, team-members etc responsibility and challenge seems like a common-sense approach for productivity and success. I'm glad I don't have some happy-clappy manager giving me weekly goal's list to fill out and a green, yellow or red sticker at the end of he week to show approval (now, if the sticker had googly-eyes or smelled like root-beer I might ge more excited).

Comment #91 - Posted by: Prole at February 11, 2010 8:15 PM

I just have to say:

a) Jessica you're awesome and beautiful, well done.

b) To those who have a problem with the human body, it is your own and no one else's. I only wish you all didn't have such a complex about sex that the photo could be nude. The human body can be beautiful, sexy, amazing, and many other things. If you can't take a picture of a woman showing 'too much' skin then you're pretty weak.

c) D'ya think the guys who run CrossFit might have some idea of what CrossFit is meant to be about? Maybe?

Comment #92 - Posted by: Jacques at February 11, 2010 8:26 PM

Land of the Free, Home of the Brave...? Anybody remember that??? I think she is being both in that picture.

And I think a Crossfit Womens Calender and a Crossfit Mens Calender are great ideas. We work very hard to get to where we are. I can see a difference everyday and it motivates the HE!! out of me.

Just be glad you don't live in a part of the world where you are forced to cover up your entire body, and your even allowed to workout...

Semper Fi and have a Happy Presidents Day Weekend.

Many people seem to have skipped over the article on teaching. Don't know how that happened.

Great article though. I've been coaching Crossfit for a few months now, and what really struck home for me was the mention of how the successful teachers always had a specific plan going in to every class. I certainly notice the difference between days when everyone in my class is understanding the movements and performing them well, and days when it just doesn't seem to click with all my athletes.
Looking back at a few of the days, both good and bad, that I can remember, the difference between the two was never how familiar I was with the movement. Instead, the difference was whether I had gone into coaching it with an extremely clear progression in mind, to the point where I was rehearsing exactly what I was going to say at each point.

I suppose I had realized this on a certain level, but that article will definitely get me coaching myself through cleans on the ride to the box from now on.

Khalipa's vid really impressive. Love the way he goes full after the suck with no thought of pacing and now will never be "an animal in surrender"

Plumey's a lightweight?! I'm not implying anything about BW, I mean...

Did she also crush every competitor there? That was great stuff.

There's a picture?! JK. I wear swim trunks when I train sometimes too.

Comment #108 - Posted by: buretto/35yom/6'2"/195# at February 11, 2010 11:50 PM

My opinion: the pic is real. To mess with something like this in PS and make it look just right would take ages. I would have preferred a tripod shot with no flash. Looks like there's a fair bit of ambient light and plenty of snow to reflect. That would have made for a much more artistic image.

If Ms. Perez-Beebe was happy for this pic to go up on mainsite (and I'm sure CF HQ would have checked this first) then I'm happy too. It's just a bit of fun. I'll take it as such and enjoy the rest of the great content provided today.

Now then, have I got enough ink left to play out a quick print from the large format Epson while I'm watching the vids? Oh goodie...

Comment #109 - Posted by: Lol Mettam at February 12, 2010 12:05 AM

ok, there was like 1 or 2 posts about the picture being objectionable and about 100 posts with people talking about how "all these people" on the board are saying it's objectionable. did we really need 100 people to post the exact same thing? seriously.

good work by jason in the video. except those really weren't power cleans and he jumped maybe one inch on the burpees. i realize the workout is for time, but it just seems to me that when you don't do the exercise properly, it kind of takes away from the benefits they were designed for.

Comment #110 - Posted by: Eamon at February 12, 2010 12:06 AM

#110 Eamon,

How were they not power cleans? Granted, the first few reps of the first set didn't have much elbow rotation but the bar was high enough to rack. Just because he was able to get the bar that high so easily doesn't mean he didn't do it properly. Certainly looked like he was producing plenty of power to me; that first set of 10 power cleans took just over 17 seconds! Jason you're a beast.

Comment #111 - Posted by: Lol Mettam at February 12, 2010 12:31 AM

There is always such a double standard when it comes to this stuff. Not surprising since North America was settle by people who were fed up with the liberalism of europe.

For the people that don't like the pic...how much porn do you google on the internet?

The porn industry is huge...and the online porn industry massive...its that way for a reason...because people use it. Sad I know...but it is what it is. And yes...mostly by men.

I just find it ironic that we get our knickers in a knot when its in plane view...and then spend our time looking at it behind closed doors.

I brough home a calender of pictures of the Sistine Chapel to give to a friend...who is a teacher...and suggested she put it on her desk at school...so the children could appreciate art. She said she couldn't...cause the pictures would cause too much problems. Lol...greatest piece of art of all time...and we can't put it in our classrooms because all of the figures are basically nude. Yet...european school children pass through the Chapel everyday.

Comment #121 - Posted by: chris at February 12, 2010 4:51 AM

One thing that needs to be mentioned about RBB and several other affiliates, CrossFit Boot Camp is not a correct name. There is no CrossFit Boot Camp. There is CrossFit and there is Boot Camp.

Nothing worse than seeing websites or signs around town advertising "CrossFit Boot Camp" and having people tell their friends they do CrossFit when they've essentially done lunges, situps, jogging, dips and pushups for 30 days. No heavy weight and no olympic lifts = NOT CROSSFIT.

Come on HQ, quality control.

I don't want to look at this, my wife doesn't want me to look at this, and my God doesn't want me to look at this. Get a clue guys, it's not just a small fringe group that thinks this is not good, it's a very significant percentage of the posters. Even though I live right by the beach in FL, I don't go very often for just this reason. I don't need to see a bunch of women in what amounts to their underwear. I'm a guy, that's like an alcoholic being left alone in a liquor store. If you say there is nothing sexual about a woman in her underwear, you're crazy or you're lying. We are sexual beings by nature. God created us that way. The more of ourselves we show, the more sexual it is. If she had about 1 square foot less material on, would it be sexual then?

More proof about what is wrong with 'morals' in the USA, if they would have posted a picture of a Marine next to a dead Taliban most people that complain about the bikini pic probably would have cheered. I'm Jessica's husband. She lost a bet to me and had to do a 10 minute workout (of OH KB & Barbell squats) in the Noreaster blizzard, in 40+ mph winds. We'd been snow bound for days and were trying to have a little fun. We sent in several pictures, and this is the one they chose.

Jessica: 5'2", 121 lbs, 33yrs old. Has been doing crossfit since Jan 2007. Started RBB in May 2008. Believes in the crossfit model and incorporates yoga and the primal diet in her program, coaching primarily individuals and small groups, where she emphasizes form & technique. (In this picture she is squatting in high heeled boots on ice with the wind blasting her face). Jessica is dedicated to health & fitness, the crossfit community, our local community, and especially her clients. She's 100% real. And most importantly, she has a sense of humor and doesn't take herself too seriously!

We appreciate all the comments, both negative & positive.

Jessica will be a judge at the US Central East Regionals.

Thought I'd comment on our rest day article from three days ago...
Pincus seems to employ a Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) in his businesses. The idea is that you outline the objectives for your employees, provide them the tools they need to accomplish those objectives, and then get out of the way. Don't set work hours, don't mandate meetings, and don't micromanage. Evaluate performance based on results, not on time spent at their desk or attendance at meetings. This mentality coheres with the Crossfit community, where we measure our outcomes religiously and eschew the long, slow workout in favor of an intense, explosive one (no hour long rides on the exercycle while reading a magazine). We don't say "go run for an hour", we say "run 5k as fast as you can and report your time."

I'd love to hear others' thoughts. Here's the article for reference.

rcb thanks for the clarification. thats all i was asking for in my original post that got deleted. if there is a reason for this...and i was totally leaving room for the fact that there was more to the picture than meets the eye...then i really DONT have a problem with it. its context you know? i do have problem with the fact that they would put it up sans explanation obviously GREATLY detracting from relevant conversation and in a complimentary way its also really distracting from the other posts. seriously, i run around in next to nothing all the time cuz i love my body and what crossfit has done for it but there is a fine line between a relevant picture and some hot girl trying to get noticed. again, thanks for clarifying...that should be left for you to do half a day and many inappropriate and/or angry comments later.

Comment #140 - Posted by: BT at February 12, 2010 6:52 AM

It would be a different look to the pic if she was wearing workout clothes. You really shouldn't buy breasts and then not put them in supportive sports bras. She is doing a workout, being in a tiny bikini has nothing to do with sport. Nothing wrong with a silly workout in the snow in actual workout attire, but a skimpy string bikini does not help crossfit women get respected for doing what they love. Yes, she does have a great body, and there is nothing wrong with showing it off, just perhaps do it with a little bit of class.

Hello # 108:

Thank you for thinking that I'd crush the comp. at Rob's Strongman competition. There were two very strong ladies on my tail: Denise Thomas of CrossFit Exodus and Amy Mandalbaum of CrossFit Performance.

I am a lightweight, as far as this competition was concerned. Lightweight females had to weigh-in at less than 130. I was 129 that day. The lightest ppl. of each weight class got the points if there was a tie; therefore, not giving the advantage to the heaviest of the class.

Thanks to Rob Orlando and his crew for hosting a FANTASTIC event! I now want to incorporate more Strongman training personally and into the training of my clients.

HQ: any vids. of Dave Lipson's final WOD this day?? I would love to watch it again!

RCB (Jessica husband),

That's cool that she lost a bet, and had to workout in the cold. My hat is off to her for that, and you should be proud of her. But making the pictures available publicly was not a wise decision. Your wife is very beautiful, but as her husband, why would you subject her to the perversion of so many people who might possibly visit this sight and lust after her? Its one thing to workout in public, where people can see the intensity of the effort being performed. But this picture make your wife to appear trashy. If she were my wife, I would be proud of her, but a bit more modest.

Comment #149 - Posted by: JCS at February 12, 2010 7:22 AM

1. On Jan 24th the main site photo was of a woman doing a pull-up in her wedding dress. She obviously wasn't doing a workout, and the photo was meant for attention and/or to be fun. No big deal. No negative comments.

2. On Dec 30th the main site photo was of a girl named Jenni POSING, not working out, in a bikini on a rock!! I didn't even see one negative comment.

I think the people who are offended must be so because of how endowed this woman is. Breasts always seem to create a stir. Coming from someone who is built quite similar, I know people often assume sexual things about you just because of how your built. It's ridiculous. If she had a flatter chest, I wonder how many people would find it sexual. (and I don't think she "bought them" as someone suggested. I'm a woman and I think I can tell.)

3. There are half naked men posted DAILY on the main site. This backlash is blatant Sexism! Maybe you'd be more comfortable living in a country like Afganistan or Iraq.

Loosen up people!

Comment #150 - Posted by: Marie at February 12, 2010 7:35 AM

Personally, I dont' want the internet world looking at my crotch, especially in a bikini, but hey, it's not me, and I wouldn't send a pic in like that. A side shot would be preferable for physique purposes, but I'm just sayin'.........

When this thing popped up last night I knew there was going to be trouble... At 8:15est. there were already 40 comments posted! When I first saw the pic and initially thought, "You have got to be kidding me!" Now thinking back and taking everything into consideration, CrossFit as a company and training model have always had a bit of "WOW" and "Over the top crazy" factor. This pic has both elements I believe. With that being said, I do not agree with posting it but, I am only in charge of my blog and not CrossFit HQ's. I also, as most of you did I’m sure, checked out the website of the individual. I was highly disappointed in the video section. It seemed to me that more of the focus is on the trainer’s performance and not that of the clients. I also noticed that the WOD’s in the vids were nowhere near full ROM. Now I understand that we are all striving to get better but this appears to me that the standards of CrossFit are not being held up at this particular box. We as a community must hold ourselves and others to the standards that are set by Coach Glassman and CrossFit, Inc. See you all in Miami!

Its 2010 bud and while I can respect your beliefs, you need to understand that you ARE the minority here. Most people do not care about this kind of stuff anymore. Get over it people and quit crying about something that should not even be an issue.

If you cant handle changes in society you are living in a fake world and a false reality. Seriously, this is ridiculous, get out of the stone age!

The picture/model is way hot!

To Jessica and her husband (Damn, she is married) well done! The dedication to fitness is obvious and apparent from the picture. You folks for sure are living the CrossFit lifestyle and enjoying the fruits of your choices. Carry on; this is an endorsement to healthy living.

To all of you better than though, morality posting, religious right wing, mental minions out there… WTF? We are looking and discussing the merits of a “Picture”? Do you not see how ridiculous the thoughts of censoring or prohibiting a post of any type of “Picture” truly are? Unbelievable! She is fully covered (Legally) and sure the picture is provocative but I believe if you had the opportunity to have a picture of yourself in your best pose placed upon the main site you hypocritically wouldn’t hesitate to have it posted! You “Morality” folks are the exact types that make me disgusted at times to be a US citizen and live amongst people of your nature! After reading “Jessica’s husbands' response and clarification as to the details of the picture and how it came to be posted, I believe all of you “Morality” folks should have some true introspection and evaluate what you should believe in. You are merely posting to validate your insecurities and lack of respect for the haves of others. Grow up!

CrossFit folks; keep the pic’s coming! I enjoy seeing and knowing that there are hot, healthy and active women out there someplace. Our society is weak, fat, and lazy creating nothing but "entitlement" and "I" centered overweight women and men for the most part. The pictures help with the motivation piece either male or female reminding us what potential is possible with the right amount of drive and determination applied. I also find it funny to see all of the “morality” police come out of the woodwork, very entertaining!

Well said, I agree 100%, Objecting to this sort of thing is setting women's rights back, its not improving anything. We need to stop being so uptight and let things go. Jessica is a great example of how this program can make a picture a beautiful, strong, and inspiring image that should not be argued over.

It should be a reminder of what we all are trying to achieve, and those who cannot handle this type of image really have some serious self esteem/insecurity issues going on and they need to welcome themselves to adulthood.

Comment #192 - Posted by: Pete at February 12, 2010 10:50 AM

This picture is clearly tongue in cheek. It is a joke, rather than a person wearing a clown nose it is a person in a swim suit out in the snow.

It has been my observation that crossfitters generally become very comfortable with their bodies (for better or worse) and as such don't see pictures like this as sexual. For those that do, they obviously see the body as something different.

On another note – having trouble releasing tension in the upper back / shoulders. Hitting a massage today.

Funny. I saw this pic on FB and chuckled. You see, I'm from the Northeastern snowbelt, and I was just, you know, kinda tickled by the silliness of the picture. Bikini in the snow, rocking a KB snatch. Maybe I'm getting old, or jaded, or numb or something (although Mrs. Bingo would disagree), but the other stuff so many have commented/complained about just never registered.

All I took away was the humor...how playful the pic was. How much fun the athlete and her photographer must have been having. It seemed like FUN.

You remember that, right? Playful, silly? Fun?

Chic is hot and beautiful...

But I started looking for the $1 bills..

Most CF photos show some skill or promotion of the practical application of crossfit in functional movements..

This photo might as well be from Gold's Gym or BALLY'S where is all about body composition and little about FITNESS..

Great Job Lauren. The hybrid challege looked really awesome it's too bad I'm not on the east coast anymore that would have been very fun. I wish the southwest fitness throwdown had gotten more press on the main site the turnout wasn't as big as I hoped but still it was awesome. The finals are on march 6th and I'm pretty nervous. Also today's pic is awesome I miss the snow...and pretty east coast girls. have a good one everybody

#151 Marie,

So does your statement then make you a hypocrite? Are you telling me how to live, by telling me not to voice my opinion, in a forum that solicits just that? How ironic.

If you have the freedom to express your opinions, then why does it matter if others express theirs? Are you suggesting that anyone that does not think like you should remain silent, and not voice their opinions?

Comment #207 - Posted by: JCS at February 12, 2010 1:10 PM

I've known Jess since we were 17, she's always had a beautiful body; but with crossfit she has definitely made a transformation. She's worked hard for that body. The picture is in good fun, it actually shows a powerful woman in action! For those who insinuated that she's had plastic surgery- hate to disappoint you that is all hard work & dedication.

She's an excellent crossfit teacher too, I've been lucky enough to have one on one sessions with her, encouraging & detailed in her approach. Jess, rock on!

Comment #222 - Posted by: Ron at February 12, 2010 3:38 PM

I always laugh when I hear a feminist decry discrimination in American society as if we are some Islamist Republic in the Middle East.

When I was in law school, fully half of my class was female. The first-in-class honors went to a woman. I currently work for a female and practice law in an office where at least half of the attorneys are women.

A woman just ran for president (and lost to a black man!). Currently in California, the former female CEOs of EBay and HP are running for governor and the Senate (againsy an incumbent female).

And the fact that men would dare ogle an attractive female is a testament to the biology of our species, where the female attracts the male by displaying sexuality and child-bearing potential. I suspect the young lady in the photo may have suspected as much when she posed for the camera.

Very important rest day article. The teachers unions have so screwed up public ed. That it is criminal. The NCAA should bring a massive multi billion dollar lawsuit for economic damages. They're in bed with the nea so won't happen but its a darn shame what has happened to the schools in the urban areas.

CrossFit calendar of women, really? It's one thing if you want to have a calendar of hot bodies, men and women, respect it all. If it's only women you are looking for then it is about more than being in shape. Can't CrossFit be slightly classier?
