Your on your own Doug Good Luck
This must be like GI Jane yes? Sounds good.
and if my pull up bar is only an inch above my reach?
finally a crossfit i can so on the ship woo hoo..this could make a good picture mhmm!
I remember reading here that doing a lot of jumping pull-ups was bad for you...
Man, this is just what I need!
haha. I love this!!!
Aloha,
Jordan
Well, I've been Crossfitting without posting for about 9 months now, and decided today that from now on, I need to step up and start posting my times. ...Looks like I chose a rough workout to end the silence! The only question is whether my time here will come out in the weeks range, or months...
Looking forward to a bingo post on the jumping pullups particularly if we cant chain 100 without assistance.
I call these Plurpees, Its sounds better. Kinda like "involuntary manslaughter" sounds better than "oops!"
G.I. Jane....
There goes the hands.
I'd like to echo what NickDeventer was saying. I know there are certain circumstances when jumping pullups are really bad for you, and others where they are OK. Can someone please explain when they are OK, and when they are not. I don't see the big issue with them, but I am not about to put myself in harm's way either. Having said that, I'm sure there is a great explanation out there.
CRPoole, welcome! i've been here a while, and i've never done this one, we'll bust it out together, ha!
100 burpee pullups!!! get some!!!
What is a burpee pull up ?
Like a burpee but when you jump - you are jumping to a bar and then doing a pull up ?
Jack's back! Just sayin...
Welcome back. Did you enjoy your Rest Day? You're a newcomer, so you DID rest, right? This 3-on/1-off stuff can get rough if you don't do the 1-off part. If you are truly new to Crossfit let's play it straight for a couple of months before freelancing, OK?
Let's talk for just a minute about recovery. With the exception of injury, some folks feel that over-training really doesn't exist, it's just a matter of under-recovery. If you really listen to world-class athletes, Crossfit Games competitor types and Olympic competitors, you hear about not only their work-outs but also about their pre- and post-workout regimens. If you are like me and you have a day job it's mandatory that you think about recovery, sleep, working with soreness, etc. Think about this when you here someone ask "Is that all there is?" It's not enough just to do more; if you do more you must also recover "more".
100 Bupree/Pull-ups for time. This is also known as "GI Jane", and indeed I think there's a video of Greg Amundsen doing this somewhere on the web site. 8-something if I remember correctly. You should still do some kind of warm-up. If you do the CFWU you might want to drop the PU and just do the rest.
Do a Burpee. You can do a squat thrust and a push-up, or do a speed drop to your chest from a standing position. In any event the first move is get from standing to chest and quads on the ground. Move from this position back to upright, jumping right into a Pull-up. This is the epitome of a jumping pull-up--chest on the ground to a JPU! One. Rinse and repeat 99 more times. Don't forget to start your stopwatch before rep one. Push stop after rep 100.
This is a met-con FOR TIME. As fast as possible. Not only should you NOT do negatives on the pull-up, but you will actually go faster if you PUSH yourself DOWN at the top, even pushing down in to the "flop" to your chest for the next rep. "Ideally" the bar is 1 foot above your standing reach. Work with what you have, just record what you did so that you can compare results when this comes up again.
"GI Jane", 100 Burpee Pull-ups for time. 3-2-1...Go.
AKA "G.I. Jane"
11:58 as rx'd
...oh yeah, scaling. This is a 10-12:00 WOD for a newcomer. Pick a number of Burpee PU you can do in 10-12:00. IMO your max time for this is 15:00. Scale by using a lower bar, maybe even not above your reach at all. This will make it more "Jump" and less "Pull". NO NEGATIVES.
Now, I got Jack on DVR, so if you'll excuse me...
Hell yeah i love GI Jane....i did her for my birthday wod....this is gonna be fun. Beating my PR, 15:17.
What if I use the door as my pull-up bar? Yeah, I know, ghetto, but yeah. I'll see how I can do it, looks like an awesome workout regardless.
is one foot above max reach mean one foot when standing on tip toes or flat footed?
does one foot above max reach mean standing one tip toes or flat footed?
would doing this workout and following it with a run be bad. Or should I follow the CFE formula 3 hours after. CFE doesnt really work for me because who has the time.
Can someone clearly elaborate what a "negative" means on a jumping pullup? Does that simply mean you don't go slow coming back down? Or am I supposed to be dropping from the bar (essentially)when my chin is above it? I'm confused.
Thanks
Christopher Putnam,
Just drop from the bar after each pullup.
OMG!! Those burpee backflips are insane!!! Awesome video, looks like I've got somethin' to work towards! Thanks, Coach!
Did this before I saw Bingo's post... 16:32... Closest I've ever been to pukey though :).
My lack of cardio fitness is starting to really show lately, I'm building a lot of strength but I didn't realise until I started following the mainsite WODs how much I was neglecting cardio beforehand. I think it's probably because I hate running it was a subconscious thing ;).
holy crap this is going to be sick.
I have been doing crossfit for a long time now and love it. I have surpassed plateaus I had with traditional forms of exercise, and I did all this at a "Globo Gym". Never once have I bashed "newbies" or felt the need to pump myself up by bashing others who have questions that may be in the FAQ! I read all this stuff with CFers being a familly and supportive to each other then read some "long timer" being a smartass because someone is new or has a question that seems silly. Bingo for example, you seem like a "badass" or maybe you just like acting that way behind the security of a computer. The point to all of this is if you have a liitle knowledge of kinesiology and can swallow your pride and ask questions (even though Bingo might bash you) or talk with someone at your gym that might have some oly lifting experience you can succesfuly progress with your CF training (probably more than looking in the FAQ, or watching some lame video). In closing, ask questions work hard and you will change physically and mentally! Thanks Coach for this FREE website and exercise presriptions!
Subbing basketball for this WOD. I might do a few for fun though!
30/M/5'10/ 150 (MTN WARRIOR)
TAKING A 2 WEEK REST. WOOOO HOOOO... DONE GI JANE BEFORE AFTER A 5 MILE RUN, DID IT IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE FAT GI JANE, OR WEIGHTED GI JANE. THAT WILL BE FUN.
SANTI
OMFG!
Of course, I just made up the squat/pull-up/squat/push-up workout today (coming off 3 days of rest), so yeah, the mere concept of burpees nearly made me boot. Sigh. ;)
As for today's results, only made it 10 minutes, and that was with an extra (uncounted) minute or two of rest worked in, as "I thought I was gonna die.' (Gilda Radner)
192 squats, 32 pull-ups, 25 push-ups. Yeah, I killed myself to not have to do upper-body stuff, and ended up completely gassed out after 4-5 rounds. fought through the rest, and kept lowering the number to subtract the squats from, as suddenly having to do 35 pull-ups was NOT going to help anything. This was awesomely difficult, and a definite lesson on pacing. Oi.
Bingo,
Thanks for all the useful info, I'm not a newbie to this but I can see how someone starting could really use and appreciate your input.
MNcrossfitter.
I can't do ONE pull up, so what should I try to do instead?
Bingo, thanks again for the helpful posts and support.

"Jumping Pull Ups" can be dangerous when they're done excessively. There have been many people that ended up getting Rhabdo from them and similar high rep movements. However, in "GI Jane" it's not really a "Jumping Pull Up" like you would have in the "Filthy 50". With the Burpee Pull Up, you're jumping up (1") into a pull up instead of holding on to the bar for those quick reps. Worry not gentlemen, it will be fine...after it's done sucking, LOL!!!
This is my amazing bro!!! Im soooooo proud of you, kick some ass and take some names. Complete bananas, and I love it!!!!!
I freakin' HATE burpees!
subbed the deadlift WOD the other day for Filthy Fifty (20:59) in the end D/T scap pain....still aching from that one..... this is gonna hurt..3-2-1-OUCH
Anyone have the last GI Jane date?
Thanks

I think if you would read correctly, it says world class athletes, crossfit games competitor types, and olympic competitors
Not world class athletes, such as crossfit games competitors and olympic competitors. Meaning he was not grouping them together
Our son …you are beautiful ,our calendars are marked and it is with extreme pride and excitement that we look forward to your competitions.
Bingo or anyone else with a suggestion:
My pullup bsr is at 7 foot and Im 6 foot (its on my daughters swingset) so would it be smart to do a burpee, then got to a pullup then... seeing as how jumping to this low bar isnt possible? when I do pullups on it I have to bend the knees if you can picture it then you see my dilemma. But Im really siked about this WOD so please if anyone has any thoughts, post it, I read the posts about 5 times a day.
Crossfit for life!

I was wondering what to do thursday for CFSB 20 minutes metcon ! Here's the answer !
31/m/197
jump start on this one.
highest bar I have, still kinda low for this.. just above finger tips.
13:13
okay, Okay, OKAY!!! UNCLE!!!!!! Mommieeeeee!!!
Uhg, I'll try but this won't be pretty.
bingo,
I've never felt that your comments were bashing anyone, just the opposite. I've been crossfitting for 9 months and I appreciate and learn from your posts. Please keep posting.
Mike M.,
I respectfully submit that you may have misinterpreted Bingo's intentions.
The Demo movie is in the exercise/demo area under ; THE "GIRLS"/NAMED WODS ....way towards the end.

first off, remember these are jumping pull ups. The jump takes away half the range of motion (more or less) you would have to pull with dead hang pull ups. These are not "true" pull ups. However, if you cannot yet do one pull I would guess you could still not do 100 half range (jumping) pull ups, correct? I know, smart, I went to college. So to sub I would do a burpee, jump up and grab bar, and pull until you feel a drag and your motion slows, and go back down into another burpee.
If you have trouble with the burpees too, then stop after 15 minutes and record how many you did. Then try to beat that number the next time.
In the immortal words of my sister-in-law, "Good and Holy Lord..."
Wow! This is a first for me! I've been crossfitting for 6 months now, and I've gone from being able to do 1 pullup to being able to do 15! I was crossfat, but now I'm on the way to being crossFIT!
Any suggestions on diet? Like a meal plan or something? I've tried to find something, but I just want like a menu meal plan to follow.
Much love to ALL the crossfit family around the globe!
Nevermind the previous date. It wasn't an official WOD. We did it after watching the video of Greg Amundson destroying it. I was 2 years younger and 15 pounds lighter. We'll see how I compare tomorrow...
Thanks anyway!
JSR # 54: Word.
Bingo - you are always supportive and bang-on with your comments and advice. I have been CFing, alone in a remote land, for the last 7 months and your input has been well valued.
Not sure what happened here but the tone detected by others is waaaay off the mark, IMHO...
Keep it coming brother,
K
Wanted to try this out and get started. This a lot more (stregth) work than I've done in the last year. Frack my body hurts, but it's a good hurt. The time blows compared to what I see above, but 28 heart pounding, lung sucking, arm numbing minutes later I was done. Can't wait to see what Thursday brings.
Thanks bingo for what you do! I know a couple years ago it was veterans like you and others that answered many questions honestly and with some humor. If anybody has been around for a while, they know that you know your stuff and are thinking of others' best interests. Don't even respond to those "bashing" you.
Bingo:
I really appreciate your comments, you provide a good walk through of the WOD. Keep up the good work.
14:20
The bar was just above my reach not a foot.
M/36/187
Burpee backflip - very impressive.
Can't wait to do this one...thinking of doing FGB first, though, since it'll be another 5 days out in the middle of the desert before I get to the gym again (tabata everything while I'm out there, I'm thinking).
Should be fun!
Bingo:
I just wanted to offer you another thank you!
i really enjoy reading your WOD breakdowns. Even if i don't read it till after ive done the WOD.
Thanks!
I don't think I can find a bar 9' off the ground...oh well, short jumps then. 3-2-1-GO.
Bar just above finger tips:
100 Plurpees = 11:38
Bingo, Always appreciate your input and am I very grateful that you take the time to clarify all the WOD's.In seeing you on video it is obvious that you are first class and have only the best intentions. Thank's, you are CrossFit!
12:23 but the bar was low, just beyond reach
Hey Bingo, You talking about 24???
Where you at on this one GREG P...? Tomorrow morning is gonna hurt. I'm doing this one in "boots and utes" with a flak!!! Probably not gonna like myself afterwards, but it will be worth it.
burpee backflips are nasty
#44 love your attitude.
ive been doing crossfit for three or four months now. i love all the help i get with the FAQ. most of the time people have the same questions as me so its good to know im not alone. crossfit feels like a family to me, and underground movement if you must. maybe because i havent met anyone else personally whos as inthrawled in it as i am. just like a family there will always be misunderstandings and arguements, but we should maybe try to remember what this is all about. bettering ourselves, both physically, mentally, and morally. this FREE knowledge given to us is amazing and life changing. if only we could see that daily, we might do our best at always reaching out and picking up our little bros and sis's who need a lil more encouragement. we are a crossfit family after all. thank you to all those out there doin this already. ill try to do it more to. cant wait to get my but kicked again.
Wow, this'll be fun, in a twisted kinda way..
As an aside, I did the FGB workout yesterday, when I had access to the rower. It's my NYE resolution to do as many WOD's as possible as RX, and to post ALL results, not just the ones that make me feel good. So, here goes;
FGB (As Rx'ed)
WB/SDHP/BJ/PP/Row(cal)
25/25/25/25/15 = 115 pts
20/20/20/15/12 = 87 pts
15/15/15/15/11 = 71 pts.
Total 115 + 87 + 71 = ....273 !!
Kinda stoked, first time as Rx, and working strictly on good form for all movements. I've gotta say, having done "CrossFit-lite" up til 1st Jan this year, it's a real mental game as much as a physical one, I'm finding. And when you conquer that mental "i can't do this" feeling, and knock out a workout with good form, as Rx'ed, it's a fantastic, empowering feeling. You feel invincible!!
Keep at it newbies, and give yourselves that extra push!
Til tomorrow,
This workout sucks...(in a good way)
I always think that I'm in good shape after I get done a workout, but then when I see the next one like this come up I realize that I'm not there yet! Time to dig deep; motivation is a stop watch!
3, 2, 1... jump!
Working a few weeks behind, but will post the data:

I'll try afain here under a pet name, an alias if you will!
You are stand up as they come, grade A class across the board, no pun intended.
I am sure that all this bashing does nothing to you or for you. You are far far to good a man and vital member of this community, and it has always been a plessure to have a seat with you at the cf table!
No, if they erase this one after its been published, I will certainly have some things to comment about due to some the hq hypocritcal stands and false representations of community. Hi All,
I have a question regarding the use of the Crossfit name. I am looking to open a very small gym in PA where everything needed to do Crossfit will be provided. rings, bumperplates, kettlebells, etc.
My question, how do I do this without infringement on the Crossfit Trademark? I don't have the intention of providing classes or affeliating, simply to provide a gym where crossfitters can come and have access to the equipment they need.
Thanks for your feedback

Coach, no need to explain yourself. It seems that you are uncomfortable with your success and feel it corrupts your "Free" open source image. It doesn't. Everyone on this site and around the world knows it. Anyone asking you, how could you take money from sponsors that you don't believe in is an idealist but not a realist. We live in a capitalist society (sort of). Money is coming to you because of the quality investment you and your business is to them

The answer is that you cannot make any use the CrossFit brand name in connection with your gym without infringing CrossFit's trademark unless you have a license agreement with CrossFit, Inc allowing you to use the brand name.
You can use the method & do the workouts without infringing, but you cannot use the brand name without being licensed. Licensing comes only through affiliation.
I hope this makes sense.

I drank the Kool-aid a little over a year ago. I wanted to say that I respectfully disagree with comment 37, and while I may not represent everyone, my personal experience is that your posts have been nothing but helpful, insightful, and enjoyable. I recall my first month on here, reading your posts daily, and being very grateful for having some instructional, lighthearted encouragement from someone who seemed to know what they were talking about.
I was hoping my first-ever post would be more profound, but this is as fitting as anything else, I suppose (except that I won’t be posting my WOD time, as I won’t be able to get to it for another 5 hours or so).
Keep it up!

My pullup bar is well out of my reach, even jumping, I have to stand on a box to still barely reach it. Should I just do a burpee, step up and do a jumping pullup? Seems to be the only thing I can come up with. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.
Response to Dan MacDougald. I partially agree with you. My only concern is taking something 'crossfit workout' and claiming it to be my own. I don't intend to use crossfit as my business, but give credit to crossfit for the workouts used in my gym. Is that wrong? Or should I pretend crossfit doesn't exist and call them Mark's Workout Wharehouse? (that was a joke)

"Bingo for example, you seem like a "badass" or maybe you just like acting that way behind the security of a computer."
Mike M. (Jan 19 at 6:10 pm) - If you have been coming to CF for as long as you claim and you're taking a shot at Darrell, you are either a fraud or a fool.
FWIW, Bingo has been the poster-child for polite. patient instruction for newbies, including scaling info and encouragement. Gratis (when his time as an eye-surgeon is worth a significant amount).
If you want to cal out internet tough guys, you can google search me and dial me up any time you like. Happy to be your huckleberry.
I will say that Bingo does have his faults. Dude snores after a long day in the sun. Seriously. Apolloswabbie, too. But both wear very cute boxers.
Cheers, boys.
I'm feeling pretty proud today. i certainly can't do tons of pull ups in a row as in regular pullups, unless I use a band. I can do 3-6 chin ups on my own and 1 to 2 pullups on my own.
But with going back and forth between a burpee and jumping up to the bar and doing a pull up, I was able to do them without the band. I have one of those bars you put in the door way and since i'm 5'3, I still had to jump up to get to it.
I did 100 too, but had to stop the watch a few times due to 2 and 3 year old. Probably good anyways, as it allowed me to take a few quick breaks. I switched back and forth between pull ups and chin ups, and toward the end could only do chin ups.
Average time was about 18:00minutes.

oh and I wouldn't of been able to do this one at the gym, because they don't really have a pull up bar, but they do have bars on the top of there smith/squat racks that people use. I usually have to stand on a bench. It's extremely!!! high for me, so I would of never of been able to do a burpee and than jump up into a pull up.

Bingo,
I'm coming up on 4 1/2 years of crossfit and I must admit your posts are by far the most entertaining I've read. I think the way you present information to the newbies is very clear and concise. Additionally, you provide all the appropriate warnings and caveats in a very hilarious manner.
Anybody that would interpret your posts of those written by a badass or of someone heckling newbies is way of mark.
The time you put into your posts and the effort it takes is far beyond anything I've seen anyone in the crossfit community do for free.
You are one of the few true assets that posts on this site.
I'm going to keep saying newcomer when I post for at least the next month.

Great response to Mike M. (Jan 19 at 6:10 pm)- Darrell (Bingo) has always taken the time to offer excellent advice and answers to legitimate questions. Why criticize someone who is only trying to help, and doing so without any expectation of gain?

Interesting that #37 accuses bingo of bashing on people. I've never seen that. I've seen many times where he has urged patience with new guys. He offers free and sound advice including how not to offend those who will bash you. Maybe his humor is lost on some people. Maybe some people are looking to be offended. I admit I haven't read all the comments this year so I assume they are similar to last year and the year before.

I would like to respectfully request some advice from any nutrition folks out there. I'm trying to tweak my diet to gain some more lean muscle. I went to a Level I cert before Thanksgiving at around 200-205 lbs. I started the "Zone Diet" and using the CF formula, determined I was a 17 blocker. I am now 185 lbs. Not sure of my BF%, probably 9-10%. I want to weigh about 200 but keep the same lean physique I have obtained eating in the "Zone." Do I just add more blocks until I reach my desired weight or try supplementing? My diet consists of the CF prescription...meats & vegetables, nuts & seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar, and the occassional "cheat" day:) Any advice would be appreciated as I'm not very educated in this field and seem to get lots of various opinions on the matter. Thanks for your time.

Your question is a fairly common one on the crossfit.com mainsite message boards - there is an entire category devoted to nutrition discussions and lots of extremely knowledgeable folks - I'd recommend posting your question there and also searching the forum for similar previous posts.
You may get a few answers here, but most folks use this area simply to log results - but I guarantee you'll be happy with the discussion/feedback you receive on the message board.
Good luck!

Didn't think it was worth moving the bar for this one workout.
Painful none the less!
As rx'd, 16:24. Took it nice and slow - did not want any visits from Pukie or Uncle Rhabdo. This felt pretty good, considering the burpees.
I broke this into bite-size pieces. First 10, then 10 more, then moved down to mostly 5's. 5 burpee pull-ups took about 20-25 seconds, and then I would rest another 20-30s, depending on how I felt. Initially, I got to the top of the burpee, and then jumped up to the pullup bar. As I got into the WOD more, I found jumping from the bottom of the burpee right up to the pullup bar was much more fluid and less fatiguing, though it took slightly more agility/balance.
Only had 2 misses on the jump to pullup bar - one I salvaged, the other I fell right on my ass. Also only had 1 comment from globogym fools: "Be careful!" On the inside, I said, "I will - but not for the reasons you think!"
Jen is recovering from a stomach bug she got over the weekend, but said she felt good enough to try the WOD today. She did this on Buttercups today:

First, in addition to diet, add heavy lifting to your routine in place of some metcons (search Madcow Bill Starr's 5x5 workout spreadsheet or click link below)
http://www.wackyhq.com/madcow5x5/geocities/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm
In order to gain mass you'll need to EAT and limit or reduce the number of cardio/metcons per week. You could probably stand to up your block count to 18 or 19, this will cover your protein requirements and carbs needed to support exercise. Then try adding fat blocks to each meal. Try fatx2 for a week, then x3 the next week, x4, and finally x5. One day a week (usually your rest day) cut all the way back to your baseline 18 blocks to "reset/rest" your metabolism and digestion.
As you gain weight you will add more blocks accordingly. Upping too many blocks right away may result in eating too much protein and carbs than necessary.
You may find it helps to eat most of your carbs (up to half of your day's worth) post WOD( 6P,9C,0F) and then the rest of the day have protein, some carbs, lots of fat (6P,4C,20F each meal plus snacks) to total 18p,18C,90F for the day (on x5 week).
If you don't gain, up your blocks.
Also, some suggest that eating carbs before bed will hamper growth by blocking growth hormone (HGH) that is released when you enter deep sleep, so try to avoid carb loaded midnight snacking.
When I was trying to gain, I just ate a lot of meals with lots of protein and fat and some carbs. 1 scoop muscle milk + 1 scoop whey before bed and post WOD. Pretty simple, but not fun being stuffed all the time.

I think I did 75, but I may have miscounted and done 65. Highest bar available was just out of standing reach, so only a slight jump to grab. Overhand grip. Not much kipping until the end, and plenty of negative happening.

As rx'd, 20:24.
6 days off was nice, but I was itching to get back to it today. Did this at the playground - burpees in the snowy mulch, pull-ups on the high monkey bar - about 9 feet up. The set-up of the monkey bar (hard to describe) and the wet, cold hands made this one more difficult. I was 4 minutes off my PR for this. Had a nice fall (flat on my back) on #82. Ouch.
I absolutely loathe these kind of workouts. Doing just a huge # of reps is such a mental game. Was able to get 9:50 RX'd
