what the what?? pull ups push ups squats again??
oh man gonna be a rough one!!!
Whoa coach....are you trying explode our upper body? Dang!
You know, this is almost predictable...
i had a feeling it would be a third day of the same stuff.
hit it hard!
So do we go from one to the next and then rest 3 minutes. Or do we do 5 rounds of the pullups with 3 minute rests before we move on to the pushups, etc. Basically is this a circuit the. Rest 3 and do it all again in order 4 more times
#8 do the 20, 30, 40, 50. Rest three minutes, then continue with same pattern for 4 more rounds.
Does kipping make the PU easier or faster?
Hope I am less sore tommorrow.
No Mercy! haha gotta luv it!
How cow Batman....Pull Ups again!
Gotta be honest and say I'm not getting the whole "pound the body into submission" thing with three days of the same exercises. Been crossfitting since late 2005 and I've followed pretty well, but over-use injuries have plagued me for the past year+, and these workouts don't help. I think I'm gonna pass on this one.
# 10 kipping pullups able you to do more work in less time so yes the are faster, slightly easier and they make you numbers for strict pullups go up
This will be the first time I do this "As Rx'd."
I've been doing CF religiously for 8 months now. OMG I don't know if it's the moon phase or what, but my whole body is soar after the last couple WOD's .....Ok I quit 3,2,1, GO ... :))
It seems like we haven't done pullups, pushups, situps, or squats in so long....I almost did this today just because i missed them so much....
hmm, starting this WOD cycle tomorrow with Angie. Cursing myself for posting a few days ago that we hadn't had pull ups in 3 cycles
What's with 3 days straight of the same movement? Are you trying to tear our hands up permanently?
Pulls ROCK!! Stop Crying!! You all can go back to "three sets of ten" whenever you want...
Bring it !!! I think it's a bit much but, mother nature doesn't care so, I don't ; ) I'm gonna CRUSH it !!!!
OK. Well then, guess we'll get a chance to talk a little more about body weight exercises, eh?
Now I know what you're thinking...I've always been told that you shouldn't work the same muscles two days in a row, right? So, what's this? Three consecutive days of PU/Push-ups/Squats? What tha...
Here's the scoop. Crossfit is designed to train us for the "unknown and the unknowable". Our crossfit.com workouts are not random, but constantly varied. In life sometimes the same task or challenge arises 3 days in a row. Same thing here. I'll talk about "Barbara" a bit and then offer some suggestions on what to do tomorrow (remember, I'm talking to newcomers).
So..."Barbara"...another one of our "girls". The good news is that we get another "girl"; the bad news is that it's "Barbara". 20 pull-ups/30 push-ups/40 sit-ups/50 squats. Do this combination, rest "precisely" 3:00, then do it again. Total of five time through. The 3:00 between rounds 4 and 5 are simply the fastest 3:00 of your life.
20 pull-ups. The kipping PU is the default PU in Crossfit. Gymnastic, frog-kick, or butterfly, it doesn't matter. Can't kip yet? Bummer for you. Trade in your stopwatch for a sundial. Break up the 20 any way you need, but complete all 20 before you move on to the push-ups. Scale the PU with a Gravitron, bands, or by doing jumping PU. Do NOT to negatives on jumping PU. JUST DON'T. Go immediately to 30 push-ups.
After you finish your push-ups move on to 40 sit-ups. It doesn't matter what kind you do. Anchored or unanchored. +/- Abmat. GHD? What? Are you daft? You're a newbie; don't be silly. GHD sit-ups for you are a straight trip to injury. Finish with 50 squats. Just like always in CF if it just says "squats" that means just you and gravity. A$$ to ankles and stand up, full hip opening. Record your time and hope you've stopped shaking before 3:00 is up.
A word about scaling. The easiest way to do this is to let someone else do it for you! Click on "Start Here" on the left side of crossfit.com, then click on "Brand X Scaled WOD" and look at what Guarddawg has to offer. It's there every day. My thoughts? If you are truly new at this stuff drop down to three rounds of 10-20-30-40 reps. Be safe. Make it just a little bit fun. If you are really chewed up from "Angie" and "Cindy", really sore and worried about today, go ahead and take the day off, or go for a run. We've just done 3 WOD's in a row and tomorrow is a Rest Day. Keep that in mind as you decide what you will do. Crossfit is "you vs. you". No one is keeping score but you.
For what it's worth "Barbara" is the WOD that brings me closest to "Pukie the Clown" than any other. I have a love/hate relationship with "Fran". I just hate "Barbara".
I agree with #14, this is just asking for injury in the form or muscle tears, spasms, or joint problems. I think this cycle isn't for everyone, and insinuating people are sissies for not wanting to do it is ignorant...sorry coach I like to avoid injuries.
Will be doing barbara and mary tomorrow, couldn't do wod today after working thirty two hours straight with no sleep last night, recover and hit it hard.
Sorry, Greg, but I aint planning on going back to "3 sets of 10". I might not be as hardcore as you, but at least I'll be able to swing my axe when I'm on the roof tonight...
I'm with #21. There must be some logic to it. Just go get it....
1st day of workout. New to crossfit! Should be exciting, can't wait!
Sweet. Had a hunch that this was going to happen. Stuff like this (3 days in a row of more or less the same thing) does get programmed occasionally, and works surprisingly well. Yes, it will hurt and make us dig a little deeper, but that's not really surprising... It is crossfit, after all.
If you're fighting a repetitive strain injury, by all means scale or substitute or what have you. But if you're just sore, give it an honest shot. Some oft past pr's have come when I've been sore and tired and just generally blah about the whole thing, and I've actually felt better after the workout than before.
Bingo: well said. Particularly loved the bit about the ghd situps. We just got a ghd at our gym, so I went a bit overboard on trying it out. Then I remembered that Angie had situps... I paid for my warmup exuberance.
Man, there's been a lot of crying on here lately. If you don't want to do the WOD, rest or choose one you want to do. If you know enough to complain of the inappropriateness, then certainly you know enough to choose one that is appropriate.
i couldn't move my arms to wash my back after yesterdays. fml
ps this is comming from someone with a sub 3 minute fran.
Keep the videos of Mikko going! He is a true warrior and an inspiration to us all. Humble, driven, a crossfitter. An athlete we can all learn from.
Remember in start here is says that main site will tax the world's fittest athletes. Scale if you need to and rest on sat.
aw, come on coach...angie, barbara and THEN cindy would have been alphabetical. you are really messing with my OCD.
and Scott, i dont care what your fran time is, mental toughness is every bit as important as physical development. besides, i imagine bw stuff will dissappear for a few cycles and your body will recover stronger. complaining is toxic. Accept suffering in silence.
I am soar... so soar. I LOVE IT!!!! I just love that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach right before I start a crossfit workout because it makes the "laying on the floor in a pool of my own sweat" after it's over seem soooooo sweet! Started off the year with a PR, hope to keep them coming!!!
(giggles) i love this program XD
I'm a big fan of crossfit. A big fan of the OHS. A big fan of assisting developing nations with humanitarian etc. Combining all three together through one picture though? To me it's bordering on exploitation, and pics like these are the ones that tend to fuel the anti-crossfit sentiment amongst posters in forums all around the place. End rant.
I think there are some out there who need to give Derek White a call at Globo Gym!
MENTAL!!!! SIMPLY MENTAL!!!!
This is going to be a good one.
38 minutes flat. Is that good? Where am I at?
i talked with my buddy i was like its either murphy or that 20 pull ups 30 push ups girl
nice kick in the nuts
that one hurt!!!
thanks.. my body is goo
I need a rest day!!!
Your WOD descriptions are great and even for someone like me that has been doing this for a long time, I still enjoy reading them. I'm sure the newbies greatly appreciate it.
Keep up the great start to 2010.
Whew! I don't feel so bad now seeing todays comments. I had the same "What the ...." when I saw the WOD. I feel like a wet towel that's been twisted dry. Sadistic Love I say! But I love it, love it, love it, love it. The physical changes that I am accomplishing are terrific and whether or not my body screams of anger at me, it knows this is the best thing for it. Internal Tough Love! :)

hurtin bad after setting PR's with angie and cindy...barbara won today
Drew, those cutoff blue jean shorts rock! Not by chance a Florida graduate?
I'm a newbie to crossfit. But I have a long history of training. Been doing crossfit for two weeks without a miss. I want to do Barbara today. I am sore like I've never been before. I want to do it. Should I plow through or scale it back a little. Any feedback would be great.
Dalton #58...plow through my friend unless you simply cannot do the exercises because of soreness...trust me we are all sore.
Good stuff these past three days.

Push-ups broken in round 4 and 5, anchored sit-ups.
Glad I did Mary (11 rounds) yesterday instead of Cindy. Nevertheless I will remember this as the legendary cycle when I did 365 pull-ups in three days.
Three days in a row of almost the same exercises improves mental toughness more than anything else. You probably won't set new PRs, but you learn that you can get through it, despite soreness and all.
Once you get close to do all exercises unbroken with no rest in between exercises time doesn't improve much anymore. Chris Spealler did 1 rep every 1.5 seconds on average in his amazing 10 minute Angie. How much faster can you go?
At this point of diminishing results the efficiency of the program suffers in my opinion.
Wouldn't it make sense to scale the workout up to force some rest in once you've reached a pace where you can work continuously without any rest? For example after you can do 12+ rounds of Mary, 25+ rounds of Cindy, a sub 12 minute Angie or a sub 3 minute Fran?
You could use a weight vest or replace air squats by overhead squats or substitute an exercise you are weak with.
Performed with a 20 lb vest
Ouch! Didn't get the New Year started off very well.
set #1: 3:30
set #2: 5:30
10 min break
set #3: 5:20
Done, realized I needed more time to recover from New Years Eve.
As rx'd 34:00
This one killed me. However, I have never done kipping pull-ups before so all the PU were strict.
Bummer, I figured it would be tabata something else.
I have been practicing CF for 2 yrs now. I used to think you and some others that leave lengthy posts regularly just craved a bit of extra attention, but I am trying to be a bit less cynical this year.
I have found myself reading your posts lately, even the ones the last couple days regarding the descriptions of WOD's as they come and go. You don't need my blessing, but keep up the good work. Although we can skip over the post each day, I'm sure thousands of newbies appreciate the explanation, and I will probably continue to read it to remind myself that I was probably confused by some of these WOD's myself at one point (humbleness is good).
...I love this...seriously. It kills, but I love it
Sit-ups: 20/20 - regular/crunches). All else as rx'd

Last two rounds was the closest I have ever come to meeting pukie, had to stop for a bit on the pushups while i was gagging.
31:48 including rests. It's me, Ryan again (9rs old). It was hard-corps but it was actually fun! This has helped me be a stronger and tougher wrestler this season. My Coach said I am way more aggressive this season...I think it's the challenging WOD's. - My dad said i could post this.
scaled to 10/20/30/40
This was a good one!
memuc #61 re: scaling UP
Spot on. The majority of Crossfitters, including yours truly, will find the main page crossfit.com WOD's to be more than enough to continue progressing, to continue to become more fit in every way. Some folks will never achieve "as Rx'd" in any but a handful of them. Still others, even those who do not aspire to compete in the Games, will find that they plateau after a period of time, and that the incremental fitness of a 2:59 "Fran" vs. a 2:51 "Fran" does not really move their fitness meter.
One response? Scale UP. More weight on the thrusters in "Fran". 275 or 325# DL in "Diane". Wear a vest for "Cindy", "Mary", or "Barbara" (well, maybe not "Barbara"). Whether you scale down or up, Crossfit is you vs. you, a continual quest to create a better version of you tomorrow than you yesterday through the work done today.
Keen observation. Thanks.
Rich #67: cheers, Brother.

total running time 37:56
did modified pull ups -- had a chair under chin up bar
did full out military push ups for all sets
german shepherd "assisted" during sit ups
squats just plain burned!
Great time... killed the WOD for sure...just dont see full extension on the squats on the last set..maybe just fatigue but hips werent fully opened and knees locked at the top :( anyone else have thoughts on that?
Absolute torture...but the good kind.
17:21 total work time. 29:21 with the rests.
My arms are so sore, I can't pick up my 3 year old without wincing. Barbara always makes me feel this way but with the two girls before, she hurts a little more this time. Thanks Coach!
For those of you who are whining...remember, this is a free site. It's not like you are paying for this programming...if you don't like it...don't do it, but don't crap on the ones that do like it or call it stupid. The bickering is worthless and a bad way to start the New Year.
and a quick note to self:
total for last 3 days...
not sure i've seen that in my 2 years of CF. awesome. time for a rest day.
Sore today and loving it!
Barbara as Rx
(Also my girlfriend's name, which I got a little chuckle out of... but she is nowhere as near as bad as the WOD)

hands absolutely shredded from the last two ladies. opted to make up the 5k row from last week.
Bob and I did Cindy to make up for missing yesterday.
16 rounds each with 5 sec to spare
-I guess we could have gotten 3 or 4 of the PU in there.
-We were talking afterward....I would really like to see a vid of 22+ Rd Cindy with chest to bar PU, bottomed out and open hip at top air squats. I have been looking on YouTube for one, and while many are high rounds, they seem partial ROM. It seems reasonable that there is an acutal max, where you take no breaks, have exceptional form, etc. Gravity can only pull you down so fast on air squats and push-ups.
CG E-City CrossFit,
25:47- minute slower than last time but a huge mental victory! We got through it!

I was just looking at doing a level 1 cert at some point in the future, with the only one in the UK in the next few months in April.. and it's $1000.. Are they ALL that expensive?!!
As a poor student, this is a bit steep =\
M 34 175 been doing cf for about two months. 4:45, 5:17, 6:08, 6:31, 7:24. That hurt.
This was absolutely the worst Barbara I've ever done. Angie, Cindy and a lousy Holiday diet have absolutely kicked my a$$. 17:01 of work, previouis PR 13:30. Pukie kept knocking during situps on rounds 4 and 5.
All pullups kipped unbroken, Pushups unbroken rds 1,2 and 3. 20/10 and 15/5/10.
Rd3 3:12 This is were it all fell apart, situps killed me
Rd4 4:03 Situps and squats sucked
Rd5 4:32 Should have used a sundial.
Looking forward to a day of rest.
Woke up this morning and it was the best my shoulder has felt in 1 1/2 years. Wish I could say the same now as I sit here icing it.
Jen did "Barbie" today (puppies: 5 rounds of 5/10/15/20).
Pullups were assisted (gray band), pushups were bench pushups, situps were feet anchored, back on swiss ball.
2:08 (approximate, clock started late)
Great effort! Times got consistently better.
Full 5 rounds (woo hoo!)
first time Barbara
jumping pull ups, knee pushups
w/ 3 min rest
Losers quit when they're tired, winners quit when they'tr done.
Each round includes a 30 second (slow) jog from the pullup bar outside in the snow back into my workout room. Since that gave me a 30 second rest after the pu's, I've counted it in.
Total time 30:12
Switched situps to 50situps and squats to 40squats
As Rx 31:32
After the DOMS decreased the first 3 were gold. The last 2 broken into pieces -lost the PU's at 12
Glad I didn't wus out
CF Pleasanton (CA)noob here... feeling very noobish after tackling Barbara for the first time. Finished only 2 rounds... barely... 30:26 Used green band on pull-ups. Can't wait until some time down the road when I look back and laugh at how far I've come.
CFWU~yeah, not so much..not even GHD back extensions. Did a little stretching and then....
Round 1: 2:29
Round 2: 2:29
Round 3: 2:44
Round 4: 2:42
Round 5: 2:48
I AM A NOODLE NOW! Glad my shoulder/back/bicep tendon help up pretty darn well as this cycle was my first since surgery 10/20/09 that I did all WOD's as prescribed.
It's all about the comeback!!!!
kipping pull ups
thigh to deck push ups~little to no shoulder/bicep tendon pain
anchored abmat sit ups~I think I need to come up a tad higher after watching Pat in the "Barbara" video (which is just delicious to watch by the way!) and Speal during the "Angie" video.
No spotter ball used for squats...at or below parallel on all

4th day following the crossfit workouts. Im 20 years old and am a college athlete and have been training my whole life and I have to admit this is by far the most intense program I have ever followed. I woke up this morning and NO WAY did I want to do the Barbera workout, but I wasn't about to skip it. I definetly felt like a warrior after I completed todays workout but a really sore champion thats for sure. This stuff is great! Keep the pain coming!
Pretty sure i'm the low score today.
You know, after posting all those pics of beautiful Crossfit ladies that the men liked so much...I am totally ok with the continued posting of Mikko videos to keep us ladies happy :D
Such a badass.
As rx'd with un-anchored sit-ups
37:24 first time doing Barbara and its cold as balls out side with the wind a'kicking BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. First time back to crossfit since 2.5 weeks of vacation...lol way to start out!
dead hang pullups
4:55, 6:15, 7:10, 7:34, 9:20
I got a 1 second PR.... but i didnt follow directions and forgot the rest between rounds part - DOH!! 17:10 with mixed full and girl push ups and jumping pull ups (still cant kip consecutively) Happy with it though!! So fun to see where you start in January and where you end up! By the end of the year it will be ALL kips and ALL chest to deck pus!
Nice article on Paleo in the Washington Post today :) Time to get back on the wagon after a few days of crappy eating. Get to it FRAT!
Total work time: 15:49

Day 2 of CF for me... I thought I was pretty fit before starting CF but after these past two workouts, I'm learning more about my fitness!
Thanks Bingo for posting the info about each WOD... please continue, especially as we get to more complicated exercises.
Total work time is 23mins 48secs. Time with rest is 35:48. I'm starting to get the kipping down on the PU but had to switch to the gravitron with a 35lb aid half way throught them on round 3.
Does anyone know if the endurance wod's are coordinated with the main site. It says on the endurance page that today is a rest day from the main wod's. I could be reading this wrong though. I may do some cardio today. Very sore from yesterday.
Thank God I didn't eat before. quite nauseous right now. I feel worse than after eva. As I have learned to use my abs more when doing pull ups (especially with kip)and push ups, I notice when I follow them with sit ups it is torture! Were sit ups the worst part for others?
forgot to add round times
As rx'd m/40/6ft/180
A nice ass kicker, almost met Mr Pukie but not quite. I like this sooooo much better than marathon training!!!

BARBARA kicked my butt- but i kinda liked it :)
Noob question - what do you all recommend for post-workout food and/or supplement?
Protein shake? Muscle Milk? or any high-protein food, such as a dairy product.
Is it really important to get protein directly after a workout? Or does a regular healthy diet suffice, especially for a noob like me.
Happy New Year all!
Haven't posted in many a'month but had to reflect on the past year, since starting CF (after doing, well...nothing!) last Jan 19th.
Lost 23#, can do kipping pull ups (although Babs put me in a band today after the last two days), can do real push ups, lift way more weight than I ever thought possible, and even run a 5k (still kinda learning to embrace running)
To those new to CF, stick with it and eat well, you will be amazed.
Thanks to FitMom of CrossFit Persevere and the whole CF community.
Here's to 2010, hope you all surpass your goals.
Just a comment from Mikko's interview.
At the end of his workout he states I never lie on my back, it's a sign of weakness.
Previous interview after the crossfit games he stated something similar and referred to Standing Tall after the WOD.
Fight the urge to make "sweat angels" and walk it off. Your successful when you complete the WOD, but don't let it beat you at the end.
Did a variation of today's Crossfit Football WOD
21 - 15 - 9 reps of:
Overhead Squat 125#
BTW - I was Standing Tall after the WOD - fought the urge to make "sweat angels".
Thank you my Crossfit Brothers and Sisters!!!

I don't usually read the postings and I think I'll continue that tradition... Some of you people are just too damn smug for me.
After I PR'd Angie and Cindy I did NOT want to do this at all. But I sucked it up and did it anyway.

Pullups were scaled on a Gravitron, and after the first round, pushups were from the knees. This is the first time I've gotten my wife to do a CF workout, so I was excited about that. She did the first 3 rounds with me, and part of the 5th round.

Took round 3 really slow because I felt like breakfast was coming up... and of course it did. Puked after round 3 and then again after round 4. Never have puked twice on the same WOD but I guess there's a first for everything. Ouch!
First Barbara Did all rounds with 20lb weight vest, and kept it on while resting. As RX'd.
Put everything I had into that last round.
Decided to do ONLY 3 rounds. Easing back into things.

Something I realised today: how come Crossfit main site doesn't have any swimming?
I mean it doesn't really require and specialist equipment and definitely fits the bill as functional! Not saying there's anything wrong with running and rowing, but swimming is fun! :D
62 minutes including rest. Lap time on phone didn't save the times of each round.
could have gone faster if it weren't for these callouses. Pullups were painful
Happy New Year, folks.
Was away in the highlands for 3 nights over Hogmanay. Too much food, too much booze, not enough sleep, and zero exercise beyond the New Year Dook in Loch Lochy... :-)
?7:+ (forgot to start stopwatch).
Limiting factor was pull-ups - couldn't get the kiprhythm at all this time. Last 3 pull-up sets were mostly jump-assisted, which is why the times flattened out a wee bit :-(.

Soooo close to as Rx'd :/
Got 16 rounds plus 5 Pull-ups and 10 Push-ups...after round 10 i had to go to my knees on the push-ups.
Twas my first Cindy with no jumping pull-ups!!!! :D...only downside to this was me being unaware that a callous had ripped somewhere in the middle of the workout and me finding out at the end when i took a sip of my gatorade and some dripped into the open wound.. OUCH!!
Attempted to catch up with DL 1-10-1-20-1-30. Sports hernia now too limiting with pretty much all DL. About an 8 or 9 year old issue, not from CF, and will have to schedule repair this spring.
Watched Lil' bingo finish up last 5:00 of "Cindy". Gonna be fun to have another CF'er in the house.
30 minutes. Used gravitron for pullups. 30 minutes on bike after. M/44/5'9"/200
My second day of crossfit and it was a tough one.
Barbara as Rx:
Time w/ rest- 35:00
The squats were definitely the worst for me, hopefully tomorrow is a rest day because I'm going to be waddling around.
first time doing this one
3 minutes is way too much rest between rounds
Really looking foward to manana
Scaled down to 10/20/30/40. 3 mins rest between rounds.
Nursing sore back and shoulder, so cut down to 3 rounds and took it slow and easy.

chin-ups were on an improvised "ledge" w/o good grip... oh well, it worked out and hopefully made me better.

PR is 11 so did the 11th round OT. Usually use gravitron, this time only toes asst. First HSPU in awhile due to shoulder so all in all this was good.
Have done a lot of hikes in the woods. We have about 3+ ft snow and I have no snow shoes or cross country skis so this is quite the workout. My legs are going to be rock solid ;)

First time as Rx'd, and it was rough...LOL...my rounds got much slower after the first one. It was mostly the pull-ups that slowed me down, though. Well, that and the kids acted up more as the rounds progressed as well(had 4 of them that were 7 or under with me...LOL). The people probably wonder who this guy is taking his whole family with him to the Gym.
The first round, everything was unbroken. As the rounds went on the sets broke up more and more. Next time I will do a lot better!
note: no pull up bar. notch 6 on pull down machine.
Juan, Jumping is a lot easier than Kipping.

I have a completely torn supraspinatus (part of the rotator cuff) and I'm waiting on surgery with quite a bit of worry. I'm told that rehab from this surgery takes quite a long time. I'm 49 - tore my cuff non crossfit weightlifting (benching). I'm pretty dumb about injury but learning (the hard way). I thought the comments about the repetitiveness of the last 3 WOs were interesting. Although we did a lot of the same things, it seems to me the coaches are way more smart than I ever was. All the movements were unweighted and very basic. I was able to complete all the WODs as rxed even with a torn cuff, which at least tells me that these work outs do not strain the shoulder which I feel may be our Achilles heel.
30:09 as rx'd including rest
Its a pretty rare 52-year-old that can complete Barbara.
You're way ahead of the pack. Keep it up brother!
I ate shortly before I started and think that contributed to my very poor performance.

This is a far far cry from my PR. I felt like i had no pulling or pushing power at all today for pullups, even for being on rings, and pushups were the same. Situps felt slow too. The only thing i was able to continually power through were the squats.
Had a pretty nasty headache with a little dizzinessat the end that was only remedied by putting my head down. That was pretty annoying.
Pretty poor performance day all in all, but i'm glad to have it over with along with this cycle. I'm looking forward to something different than pullup/pushup/situp/squat

Barbara as rx'd (another crossfit wod that I hate)
I like the idea of the crossfit program, I just hate all their workouts, not because they are bad, just because that if you do like them, you are either not working hard enough, or superhuman.
Hiked 3 miles / worked on muscle-ups outside
Ridiculously cold - 21F
Did 30 assisted muscle-up's (used toes to get through transition)
Jogged for 20 seconds between attempts.

Thanks Coach and HQ. This cycle is exactly what I needed to break out of the funk I was in. Day 1 sucked bad, Day 2 saw modest improvement, and today (day 3) felt much, much better.
This cycle reminds me of getting called out to a friends cabin for a long weekend of breaking concrete, hauling it up a severely sloped hill, and hauling down the newly mixed concrete in a wheel barrow and then pouring the cement. Then, too, the last day felt like the best!

For all those with "concerns" about this week of repetition, remember "constantly varied" and "adaptation." Inherent to this week's repetition is a variation on programming meant to shake it up. Would have been a big PR, but subbed back extensions for pullups, otherwise as rx'd. Not quite sure why, but I was frighteningly sore from Angie, and even skipped Cindy yesterday. My tendonitis spots are screaming even today from only 100 pullups on Thursday. Subbing BE's for pullups really demonstrated how much those 20 pullups each round strongly affect the pushups and situps, because Barbara usually crushes me and this was dramatically easier than the real thing. Super kudos to everyone that did all three girls and survived!

Well, since I got to the bloody hand phase from Angie, I decided to pass on these last two days, unfortunately. Go ahead and call me a wimp. Fine.
I do give Crossfit props for giving us body weight wods that can be done without a gym during a holiday time after a lot of us were complaining about not having access to the gym during Christmas. I imagine the coaches were saying, "You want bodyweight wods? Fine, here's some body weight wods! HA!" Evil.
Holy Crap!! These three girls kicked the everloving $*!t out of me!

My focus for this year is embrace Crossfit 110% and be more of an active participant on posting results. I've been doing Crossfit for 7 months.
M/43/196 - use to be at 305lbs 3 years ago / been working on improved fitness ever since. Crossfit is helping me go to the next level
Location - Somewhere in the heart of Alice and Wonderland - AKA Iraq - non-military
equipment/resources - limited at the gym
The chin up bar is so high I can't use an incline bench to help with chin ups, don't have the graviton, and don't have pull up assist bands... so here's what I did.
Pull Ups is my weakest link.
Friday Angie - I used the lat pull down machine with 120lbs
Saturday Cindy - was able to do the 5 body weight pull ups - accomplished 5 rounds of that program
Today Barbara - used the lat pull down machine, but I was so sore from the last two days put it down to 90 pounds then on the last round put it up to 120 pounds.
The gym here is not a pukie fan so I have to watch my p's and q's. One day I'll have to take a picture of the “don't throw wall balls against the wall.” Anyway..
20 minute warm up - elliptical - level 6 - 2.5
20 @ 90 Lat Pull Down
30 - bent my knees pushups / was able to do full push ups with Angie and Cindy but the PAIN today! OMG!
40 - sit ups - anchored ankles on decline on lowest decline setting
50 - Squats
Followed this on 4 sets - rested the full 3 minutes - never in my life have I had such an appreciation for 3 minutes.
Set 5 @ 120 lbs lat pull down
30 still bent knee pushups
40 sit ups still on decline - lowest setting
Time 40 minutes - I could have pushed a lil harder but I think Pukie would have shown up - I could here him around the corner - remember - my gym is not a pukie fan. :)
Then walk about 1/4 mile back to room in soft gravel - uhg!
Oh yeah, I stay about a day behind everyone also so that I can get the WOD. I don't have immediate access to the internet so being a day behind helps.
Come April I'll be back home (states) for good and it'll be time to sign up at the crossfit gym at home. Since I'm in a blabbering mood today - goal once home is to become a certified physical trainer and get certified in Crossfit as well. I want to be able to help the potential "Big Loosers" meet and exceed their goals and expectations as well.
Tomorrow is a Rest Day - Wahooooo!
Thank You Bingo for your posts - they are much appreciated.
Peace out until the next WOD!
At work tonight Cleared the one bay at the hall and played floor hockey for an hour. After a good sweat I got to Barb. Did 2 rounds hard and figured I better quit juist incase we get a fire call tonight and I can't move. Good workouts the last 3 days and will be looking forward to a day rest.
Bring on next week I can't wait!
Great finish to a great series!
I was a little scared going into Barbara and did not warm up well, but this type of workout is right up my alley. I had some broken sets on the pull ups, situps and squats but felt great by round 3 and started to pick up the pace. As with any sport warm up is definetly the key to success and that was my down fall in this one. But considering I have never done Barbara before I feel I did well.
As a high school wrestling coach and training partner for some of our elite wrestlers. I was able to improve my time each round. I attribute that to being able to wrestle 3 to 4 full matches straight in our "live wrestling" sessions (that is 18 to 24 minutes of live wrestling after 1 hour of drilling and technique).
I will say I was very close to a pukie by round 5 I was pushing myself hard to break 3 minutes.
I am glad to rest tomorrow!

Practicing butterfly pullups on a swinging pullup bar. Got 14 on round 4. Lost them totally on round 5. This is the first full WOD I've done abs in for 2 months. Took it really easy on them but they're finally coming around.
I really liked Pat Barber's investment in this WOD. A jumping spin from the pullup bar then right into pushups then a scramble to the sit ups. Very awesome.
I liked Mikko's, "I never lie on my back - It's a sign of weakness." The guy is just cool!

This is kicking my butt. ha ha ha and I like it.
Only made three rounds
Picked up the pace in the third round doing GHD style sit-ups off of my 24" jumb box. Leaned back to fast and hit my head on the ground. Rung my bell a bit and caused a major head-ache. Finished out the round for my best time of the day and thought better of going on.
Only two rounds.

Great workout! On the third day of this challenging cycle whole body was shot, just shot. Had to muster every amount of energy to get through this one.
First time doing Barbara and definitely won't be the last!
rd 1 - 3:43
rd 2 - 2:52
rd 3 - 2:43
rd 4 - 3:08
rd 5 - 3:35
inverted pyramid of times --- had nothing left in that last round.
31 minutes for the whole batch including rests, except I cut all reps in 1/2. Next time it would be better to modify just the pull-ups, and keep the other 3 at full reps.
RD 1) 4:13
RD 2) 5:04
RD 3) 5:01
RD 4) 5:34
RD 5) 5:38
SO fatigued from the last two WODS...

Messed up this WOD

weak - pull-ups killed me
started kipping (a little, still don't have form right on those) on 2nd or 3rd round and that helped. Took me quite some time to fully recover today. Probably overdid it a bit. Squats were the only thing that every set was unbroken. Everything is hard when there is no O2.
three rounds. not feeling good today.

Barbara as required-
Not bad after a week of Cindy, Angie and now Barbara. I ran about 100 meters between sets. I guess that is technically cheating but if I just "rest" then the feeling of the next round is unbearable.
16:56 total work time as rx'd
As RX'd (aside from 4th round having an extra 8 sec break due to someone working in on PU bar). SUs on decline bench (#3). PUs unbroken, pushups unbroken 3 rounds and 1 break each 4th and 5th, SUs terrible, and squats unbroken and slow to get full ext.

Subbed 30 crunches for 40 sit-ups. Also, saved some time on the fourth set by moving some pull-ups to the end. Pull-ups were getting ugly later on. Nasty workout!

I obviously didn't warm up enough, as my second round was much faster.
3 rnds, 21.23, and the aftermath ... crushed.
Did 15 pushups first 2 rounds - as RXd after.
Scaled to pack. 3 rounds.

Really close to puking.

5 rounds, each for time (3 min. rest between rounds)

Sandwiched between 2 mile jogs. Only did 3 rounds, but each took about 2:30... Sad about the former, happy about the second.
Feel out of shape.
I was doing this on Saturday 1/9/10 outside at "The Oval" in Livingston, NJ. It was 20 degrees with 10 degrees wind chill. I had to stop after the third round because my hands and feet were going numb.

i think i kinda dazed out after the second round day dreaming too hard about a shower...
oh, and round 5 has been about the closest i've been to meeting Mr. Pukie! I thought he was coming for SURE... never experienced that before.
I don't mind the last 3 days being similar, basically extended warm ups... I like them cause i can do them better than o-lifts or thrusters.
I don't know how in the heck I PR'd by so much. I'm on the 5th day of a sun up to sun down fast & I didn't snack before the workout. My usual food would have been a lara bar + seeds/nuts/raisins between bfast & lunch, a somewhat paleo lunch (salad, turkey, apple), then an orange an hour or two before the workout. Crazy
on vacation this week...
