Not sure there will be much storming on this will be lucky if I finish
Any recommendations on doing this with 1 bar? Just blow through 1 exercise at a time as fast as possible?
i think i just felt a tingle down there..cant wait!
i'd be pissed if i walked into a gym and saw someone hogging 3 barbbells
Since I can setup DL's and cleans in the same area but the bench is across the gym, I think I'm gonna sub 2x the rx'd reps of pushups for BW benchpress so I can keep a fast pace. Then maybe finish it off with a max rep at BW on bench press.
3 bars of death is just what the doctor ordered after Thanksgiving. Someone order me a new pair of hammies.
Mike L. Did you order this workout?
I am so PSYCHED!! Goat is huddled in a ball, whimpering.
GIDDY UP!
Hit 'er hard FRAT
I am so glad there is no running the day after thanksgiving
Will save one bar for Globo pals. 275 DL, 90 lbs DB BP and 140 cleans. DB B^is better for my shoulders too ...
This just made me so amped up about tomorrow.. It's cool tho, my legs aren't completely sore still or anything
I remember this one. It took me almost an hour. I think I'll scale it a bit more this time. It nearly killed me.
Just watched video. This is all without a rest in between sets?

I am new to crossfit and this is by far the best stuff out there. To those of you who make this possible. THANK YOU
Censored comments? This seems un-crossfit. Just posted a comment that was not published.
Not real new to crossfit 8 months but yes its the best stuff out there. I'm so so wanting to get a affiliate here in the Ashland, KY area. Anyone have any good advice or willing to help :) Shoot me a email.... I have a full time job allready... PS looking forward to this workout tomorrow....
I cant believe it! I just bought a 3rd olympic bar today! My wife said we didnt need one....well I have been waiting for this for a while.
Full Squat Cleans.....
Yes.. IM lovin these girls :)
nice video, makes me want a massage. looks like a fun workout.
I'm with #2 does anyone have any good sub ideas? Still at the parents house for thanksgiving and I can only come up with 1 bar. I want to make sure I get the bench press since it comes up so infrequently. Changing out the weight would defeat the point of the wod by adding in all those rest breaks... Thoughts?
If you only have one bar, change out the weight as fast as you can, or use a weight that allows you to safely execute all three exercises without changing the weight at all. Wont be the same, but it will do the job.
#16: multiply bodyweight times 1.5 for the deads and .75 for the cleans. 3/4 of 155 is 116.25
Like #2 and #23 and probably many others, i'm looking for a way to do it with only one oly bar
The workout lists 'clean' but all the videos show squat cleans. . . which is it?
awe man.....i love/hate the three bars of death, i really wanna do this but i hurt my back a few weeks ago i dunno if its going to let me :(
1 bar with no weight changes: set it up with clean weight (lowest common denominator). Then adjust rep scheme to
27, 13, 10 (1st round), 24, 12, 9 (2nd round) etc. The math isn't that hard and rounding is fine as long as you do it the same again next time.
Personally, I set up the DL bar to be able to quickly strip to clean weight and I do pushups with a 45# plate on my back. Shooting for under 20, DL 330, Clean 165.
#28 if they say only "clean" then it means squat cleans
#28 ATL: Clean = Full Squat Clean
Directly from the FAQs:
2.15. What's the difference among the clean (and snatch) types?
Squat clean aka Full Clean aka Clean = start from the floor, catch in a full squat.
Hang clean = start from the hang position (above or below the knees), catch in the full squat position.
Power clean = start from the floor, catch in a quarter or half squat position aka the power position.
Hang power clean = start from the hang position above or below the knees, catch in the quarter or half squat.
"Hang" describes where you start.
"Power" describes where you catch.
This is my last of 3 nights at the fire hall and enjoyed the rest day. (always think I need to do a workout) Am looking forward to coming in to the hall tomorrow to get this weight off the ground.

Hey carlos, "IT'S A LONG WAY, TO THE TOP OF THE MOTHER F*$KIN' GYM YEA!"
Hi,
I only have one rusty old bar so I thought I would do the following;
Deadlift with the bar
Elavated push ups
Kettlebell cleans( 24kg)
Sounds a good compromise to me.
Any thoughts,thanks

Just started CrossFit today, workout was intense turned in a 32:38. Question on the amount of actual cardio that should be done outside of the WOD. I currently run between 3-4 miles 5 times a week with sprints mixed in. Any suggestion?

Ok guys, this post has absolutley nothing to do with fitness, but everything to do with our freedom, our heroes, and our future as a country! So if you want to bitch about me not posting my Linda time, get over it, some things take precedent over that, and I want to hear from my military friends in this community so I don't lose my freaking mind on this!!
The more I learn about the planned Court Martial of the Seal Team involved in the capture of the Iraqi Terrorist involved in the brutal murder and parading of the bodies of Americans in the streets of Fallujah in 2004, the more infuriated I become. I was not a SEAL and admit that I don't have all if the intel on this one, but from what sources tell me these guys are in a political situation like no other, and this has more to do with the "rights" of our enemy combatants than anything else.
So, as former military myself, I have one response, LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT!!! We are going to spend MILLIONS on KSM in NYC, the biggest stage in the World so he can have a fair trial, put innumerable honorable men and women involved "on trial", allow a confessed 9/11 mastermind the "innocent until proven guilty" rights, all the while allowing 4 of our own HEROES, who should be getting a damn Medal, to be Court Martialled and jailed.
Can somebody a lot smarter than me, and with a cooler head, please explain WTF is happening to the country that I proudly served?? I don't recognize HER!!

Posted this late yesterday but figured I'd try again since not many people checked that rest day thread.
Is there any place to find a list of all the sectional qualifier locations and dates? I recently saw that the one in Columbus, OH (where I live) is March 6-7, which is going to be next to impossible for me because of prior plans. I have found some others on different dates, but it seems like there must be some sort of master list somewhere. Any ideas on where I should look for this? I'd really like to get a date and location set so I can set my schedule around it, since my job makes traveling quite difficult.
Thanks.
I did this one when I first started CrossFit about a year ago. I did it as required and it was brutal. I don't think I performed the cleans correctly at that time and I messed up my back a little. Plus, as the workout went on, I know my form started to suck on the deadlifts as well. That "3 Bars of Death" title is not far from the truth, especially if the form gets screwed up like mine did.
I am in the process of putting together my own home (apartment) gym over the next few days, but I think that I will give this one a shot based on the one-bar approach.

I set 105 lbs on the inside of the bar and then loaded the rest of the weight for the deadlifts outside of it. After deads, I would strip the outer weights off and 105 lbs would be left on the bar for the cleans, then I'd add it back on after the cleans. Ate up a bunch of time that way, probably a total of 5-6 minutes or so, but I was pretty wrecked and would have probably used up that time in rest anyway.

Setting this up in the Globo was a great warm-up, could even have been a WOD. Didn't need the long-forgotten martial arts defense tactics, although I did sustain my first CF injury: dropped a 45-lb plate on right big toe.
DL's a killer. The weights are OK, but I am still very nervous about the possible effects of not-perfect form on a 57-year-old frame, so I scaled 'em down a bit.
The bench press: I hadn't done one in a while---well before starting CF--- and didn't know if I could put up anything close to bw. But 175 went up very easily through every round. Probably should have scaled it up a bit if anything. I'm guessing that 2-3 months of CF is having a BIG effect here.
Cleans: Well, they were my idea of cleans, anyway, getting the bar from the floor to my shoulders and trying to imitate the videos. In any case, I think I graduated from 115 today.
Drank a lot of water throughout. Was completely wiped out after I finished, but two hours later I feel great.

Try to keep workout like this under 30 mins or so.
The intensity you get from these workouts comes from your power output. Getting your work done at a challenging weight taking 20-30 mins for beginners is a great goal.
If you are doing like 35 or more mins you are most likely going way too heavy.

I've been following this site roughly for about 2 months now and this is my first time posting. It all started when someone at the gym introduced me to this site. I am loving it all!! with the accompanied muscle soreness that follows. It's the best thing for my body in terms of building strength and adding to my Martial Arts practice.
I am lean by nature and my diet is pretty clean, I am not following much of a strict zone but have been dabbling with it. I took out all whites (rice, flour, sugar) from my diet and sticking with meat (chicken, beef/lamb, and fish), vegetables, nuts and dried fruits. I've even stopped taking my daily (2x day) of whey protein, as I think the food will give me what I need.
My weight is fluctuating quite a bit, one day I am at 162 Lbs and one day later I am at 166 Lbs. I can't seem to go past 166 Lbs and I wanted to gain about another 10 Lbs.
Sorry for the long post, can anyone give me any hints?

As rx'd, 25:14. Brutal. This WOD tore me up big time. I was surprised how quickly it got difficult! I was drenched by round 2, bleeding by round 3 (grazed my leg on a DL). Happy with the time, but I was a mess after this - arms, shoulders, and entire posterior chain were just shredded. Amazingly, bench was my strong point - unbroken through all rounds.

HOLY CRAP. This hurt. Badly. I now know I should NEVER have run that 5 miles yesterday because I want to cry. I'm surprised I made it through, but I just kept forcing myself to continue. Cleans were mostly power cleans because I was hurtin'. I broke up everything, every round, except for bench press.

Re: A Concerned American
I wholeheartedly agree with you on the obnoxiousness of the charges against the Marines. I've been extremely close to getting into the military, going the officer route as I have a degree..already got a waiver signed by the General, all lights green...but it's things like this that I've been seeing in the news lately--this is not the only ridiculous thing going on, although one of the most ridiculous, that have caused me to hold off on my decision...it is hard to commit to something when I have to question the integrity of the thing--seriously--this is over PUNCHING the terrorist, as far as I've heard--...seriously? Those marines should be given medals! Or have a freakin parade for them...anyway, yeah I've been thinking about this with distaste since I've heard about it...

I didn't realize it was for time, and im just quiting smoking... well trying.
Quick question though, I took a few years off from crossfit and just did reg body building... And going thru the comments, I've noticed a ton of people having to scale their weights in comparison to their body weight. Could it be because you're losing strength in a trade for cardio?
How many people here sub crossfit days for regular body building workouts during the week, just to keep the pounds on?

(On this workout I did D.L. (200), Bench (135), Clean (95) I meant to do 100 for clean but forgot at the last second to add the 2 1/2 lb plates - Felt it in my lower back - my erectors, quite a bit after about round 6 or so. Deadlifts felt relatively easy at first but my lower back made them feel a little harder towards the last couple rounds, and my cleans were pretty good form, but that's what drains me. I have been continuously getting good results (P.R.s alomst every workout), but I have not been that into the WODs this past week or so. Ever after Thansgiving I'm more tired after putting the kids to bed.. gotta just push through it.

Much better at DL lift this time. Sets were in 5 and 4 most of the time. BP was always straight thru. Sqt cleans were not the greatest but got through 4s and 3s. Lower back will be sore from DL but fought through it. Used HRM to rest better. Knew DL and sore lower back were the constraints for completion. Started a lift only after HR got below 70%. Figured it was better to be slower but fresher for the lifts. Avg HR was 67%.

BP was straight through each set.

A killer workout.
Can't really imagine getting in the 30's without a massive strength improvement in dead lift. Sets of 4 or 5 could make it doable but all in all a frickn tough one. Longest workout for me other than run 6 miles.
