My technique on the snatch not so great, Goat is ironing out some of my flaws, his snatch improved with help from jakers. Should I do this with a broomstick OR do OHS for the WOD and do skill work before/ after on the snatch? Hmmmm. Thoughts?
Having a hard time distinguishing between the Snatch and Power Snatch. Can anyone help?

power snatch basically doesn't go down into a squat position while the regular snatch requires one to get low.
Zach #7: Any time you see the term "power" associated with the snatch or clean, it means a full squat under the load is not required. You only need to drop low enough to get your body under the load.
Zach, i would suggest (although not 100% sure)
that it is similar to the clean where you ahve a clean and a power clean - the clean is with a full squat underneath the bar and a power clean is just a jerk so i would say a power snath is not with a full ohs at the end...
so does 65# include the weight of the bar?
Oh God!!! This one will be TOUGH, a cardio KILLER!!!, not Easy at all, if you are shooting for a good number this one will be hard as hell

if it says 65lbs, it ALWAYS means 65lbs. Example: If your bar is 45 lbs, put a 10 on each side. If your bar weighs 1 lb, put 32 lbs on each side. If you have to pick up the bar, it counts.
Do you start from the ground with the power snatch? And thanks for all the pullup tips yesterday.
I have never done this WOD before. It looks easy and that worries me, guess its gonna be a lot of pain.
can't do snatches in my gym - the UC berkeley RSF, so i'm thinking 25# dumbbell snatches (scaled down), switching arms every set. any thoughts on that?

Are you sure you can't do light weight hang power snatches? At 65 lbs, there shouldn't be a lot of risk of crashing. (err, perhaps I'm totally wrong about that.)
This WOD looks awesome. I desperately need the pushup work, I've done pushups twice in the last 6-7 months. Hands are ripped from the pullup ladder, though.

#26 if this is an easy workout you are not working hard enough. Simple. You want to add more weight go on; however, I would be surprised if anyone did not gain training benefit from this WOD. Remember there is a difference between gaining a benefit, and simply beating oneself with a destructive session. By our nature most crossfitters can go to their gym and destroy themselves. Good to do every now and then - but won't get you stronger. Been doing crossfit since 2003 and still loving it. I certainly have not lost fitness over the last two years!

I believe you are supposed to go to ground between reps, touch and go. When the plates on the bar are tiny, I may not do an actual touch and go, but at least get close.

Just started CrossFit at the beginning of this week and I LOVE IT!!! I have been weightlifting for about 2 years, and switching to this has been a blessing. I get out of the gym with a smile on my face now, every time! As for this WOD, i was 2 pull-ups away from 11 rounds. Way harder than expected!

Loved the Power Snatches. Could have launched the 65# through the ceiling if not for catching it. Felt lots power generated through hip extensions. Had to slow down towards the end since my form was starting to suffer from fatigue. Nicked my shins a few times with the barbell coming up. Wish my gym had bumper plates so that bar could be at 45's height instead of 10's. Great WOD though, still a bit wobbly if you know what I mean.

Just one more comment about the cult-fit stuff. Every new movement whether its exercise, spiritual, artistic, etc comes and goes in phases. Acceptance by many, denial/reduction, phasing away, re-acceptance. The love and denial of crossfit will eventually pass and a new system will pop up. But the principles of crossfit will come back into acceptance by all. Simply look at the fact that crossfit IS instead of what it is not or how it is better.

That was my first time doing snatch. It felt pretty awkward, and I'm sure my form was god awful, but I kind of got in a groove after a while. This seems like an appropriate lift to videotape and self analyze.
was able to do slow moving snatches with a PVC today..PROGRESS WITH ROM AND PAIN IN THE SHOULDER RECOVERY!
4 rounds of PVC snatches and 1 arm wall push ups. Stopped there as that's the most over head motion my right side has seen in over 2 weeks.
also did tabata runs on treadmill and 3 rounds of 20 double unders (1st day being able to nail those too!), 15 GHD back extensions, 15 unanchored abmat sit ups.
Ate too much Halloween candy last night~needed my last fix before all but 15 pieces per kid got donated today.

Wow, there's some real animals on here! I just started Crossfit a week ago, after realizing how much time I was wasting with traditional bodybuilding exercizes. I know olympic lifting, though, so I'm hitting the ground running
I traded pushups for dips and upped the reps from 10 to 12. Completed 8 rounds (about two minutes per for the first four, three minutes per for the last four), plus an extra 1/3 of a round in the final minute (wanted to get 100 reps of each).
Will shoot for 10 rounds next time!!

A little under the weather today. Any worse and I would not have worked out. I'm not sure if I feel better or worse post workout.
If I'm at a gym that doesn't have bumpers and I need less than 135 I stack plates on the floor to elevate the bar so I can put it down at about the correct height. Its not a perfect solution because they move, but it beats guessing if you're going down far enough each rep.

Rested yesterday and today. Extreme stress at work has left me exhausted and at the end of the day, I just need good food and sleep. I'm not afraid to take rest days anymore- (when I'm under 7 hrs sleep, when life becomes very hectic) it's good to know that as long as my nutrition stays together, I'm not going to "lose" anything.
in8girl- well bloodwork showed abnormal kidney functions still, still spilling out protein. No more swelling in extremities, though. The doc is going with lupus nephritis- either rhabdo induced a flare, or a lupus flare made me susceptible to rhabdo. Either way, doesn't matter. The Kool-Aid was sure watered down today...did I feel like crap! I love the detractors who always kick off the comments; bet they didn't find this as easy as they thought. At the start, I thought I might be able to get 20 rounds, but was not hopeful...goal was 15 or 16. However, lack of energy, poor diet for one day (after fairly strict Paleo for 4 months) and I was dragging ass. The power snatch sounds so simple at 65 lbs, but 12 consecutive reps of a long ROM exercise is a butt-kicker.

Tough WOD - I was gassed after the first few rounds. Snatches started unbroken sets, switched to 8-4 about halfway through. 6-3-3 for the last. Pushups unbroken throughout, but later reps were slow and painful.
Had 8 rounds just before 10 minutes. In the last half, I was averaging about 60 seconds per round with a 30-second break following pushups, so I had 14 rounds with about a minute and a half left. Skipped the break on the last set, and pushed on through to get 15.
Some nice new callous tears (in different spots, since snatch grip is wider). Lovely.

thought I should have gotten more as I was entering the last 5 min.....then all my muscles that were in use for this WOD felt like fire....still got two more rounds in....I guess I gamed it a bit, and then second guessed the gaming....then it was all good in the end.
Could have done more if it weren't for all the reasons I couldn't :)

Wow this workout destroyed me. It definitely put a hurting on my shoulders and cardio. Did it as prescribed except for doing hang power snatches instead of plain power snatches. I work out at a school gym so we only have small 10lb metal plates and I didn't want to snatch from so low on the ground. Was happy that I was able to do all of the snatch sets unbroken. Push-ups were broken the last few sets.

Having a backoff or "taking it easy" cycle and thought that this could be a good workout if done with a comfortable pace.
I stopped after 7 rounds at ~12 minutes. Didn't want to push too much since this was supposed to be "active rest".
This was again one of those surprising wod's - look quite easy on a paper but the reality hits you quickly in the face once actually start doing it.
I guess the lesson here is that as the snatch is activating so big % of your muscles even the small weight will quickly make you gasp air.
I guess for the best result (number of rounds), you would do the snatches as smoothly and unexplosively as possible (something like the gireviks do the KB snatches). But for the best training effect these should be quite explosive I guess.
