oooh man - lookin forward to the pain after missing todays wod

Comment #1 - Posted by: aaronfit at November 5, 2009 7:00 PM

im tempted to replace the pushups with ring dips

Comment #2 - Posted by: Jordan at November 5, 2009 7:01 PM

Cool. If it's an easy weight for me I wonder how it will be fore the big boys like Brendan! I imagine he'll be doing lots and lots of rounds!

Comment #3 - Posted by: AllisonNYC at November 5, 2009 7:04 PM

Anyone know why it's now called "Anaerobic endurance"?

Comment #4 - Posted by: Matt_in_Oz at November 5, 2009 7:05 PM

My technique on the snatch not so great, Goat is ironing out some of my flaws, his snatch improved with help from jakers. Should I do this with a broomstick OR do OHS for the WOD and do skill work before/ after on the snatch? Hmmmm. Thoughts?

Comment #5 - Posted by: Strong Lil Pony! at November 5, 2009 7:06 PM

Having a hard time distinguishing between the Snatch and Power Snatch. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

Comment #6 - Posted by: zach at November 5, 2009 7:07 PM

power snatch, you don't finish in a full squat.

Comment #7 - Posted by: ron at November 5, 2009 7:10 PM

Strong lil Pony- how did all the blood work turn out? Feeling better?

yesterday
SP 5x5
DL rep 5: 195-205-210(PR)-215(PR)-215x3x1x1

today:
10R
12 Burpees
12 J Pull ups
= 20:32, PR! (prior was 27 something)

Comment #8 - Posted by: in8girl at November 5, 2009 7:10 PM

power snatch basically doesn't go down into a squat position while the regular snatch requires one to get low.

Comment #9 - Posted by: MoisesDelMar M/26/165/5'8'' at November 5, 2009 7:10 PM

Zach #7: Any time you see the term "power" associated with the snatch or clean, it means a full squat under the load is not required. You only need to drop low enough to get your body under the load.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Ed at November 5, 2009 7:12 PM

Zach, i would suggest (although not 100% sure)
that it is similar to the clean where you ahve a clean and a power clean - the clean is with a full squat underneath the bar and a power clean is just a jerk so i would say a power snath is not with a full ohs at the end...

Comment #11 - Posted by: Eli at November 5, 2009 7:13 PM

so does 65# include the weight of the bar?

Comment #12 - Posted by: ben at November 5, 2009 7:14 PM

#13 Here is the link to the FAQ that answers that question. http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#General16

Comment #13 - Posted by: Tim at November 5, 2009 7:25 PM

Oh God!!! This one will be TOUGH, a cardio KILLER!!!, not Easy at all, if you are shooting for a good number this one will be hard as hell

PROPS TO THE FRAT

Comment #14 - Posted by: s'more at November 5, 2009 7:25 PM

if it says 65lbs, it ALWAYS means 65lbs. Example: If your bar is 45 lbs, put a 10 on each side. If your bar weighs 1 lb, put 32 lbs on each side. If you have to pick up the bar, it counts.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Chris McLendon at November 5, 2009 7:32 PM

Do you start from the ground with the power snatch? And thanks for all the pullup tips yesterday.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Samuel M/19/150 at November 5, 2009 7:36 PM

I have never done this WOD before. It looks easy and that worries me, guess its gonna be a lot of pain.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Rene Guillon at November 5, 2009 7:37 PM

can't do snatches in my gym - the UC berkeley RSF, so i'm thinking 25# dumbbell snatches (scaled down), switching arms every set. any thoughts on that?

Comment #18 - Posted by: scott 26/m/5'9"/159 at November 5, 2009 7:39 PM

nevermind, I just read the FAQ, it's from the ground.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Samuel M/19/150 at November 5, 2009 7:46 PM

i feel like the snatches are going to hurt so bad... but i cant freaking weight

Comment #20 - Posted by: Dash at November 5, 2009 7:47 PM

(He has a column in his local newspaper in which he answers questions about fitness & nutrition, the link is to his column, answering a question about CrossFit.)

Comment #21 - Posted by: Cash Reynolds at November 5, 2009 7:49 PM

RE: Scott 7:39 pm

Are you sure you can't do light weight hang power snatches? At 65 lbs, there shouldn't be a lot of risk of crashing. (err, perhaps I'm totally wrong about that.)

This WOD looks awesome. I desperately need the pushup work, I've done pushups twice in the last 6-7 months. Hands are ripped from the pullup ladder, though.

Comment #22 - Posted by: Cash Reynolds at November 5, 2009 7:53 PM

Looks really hard
Lots of rounds, met-con punishment!!!
Hard as hell.
This kind of wod make us good at endurance events without pack on lots of muscle wasting miles.

My prayers go out to those impacted at Fort Hood today. So tragic to lose anyone this way, but for those transitioning to protect our country it is just heart-wrenching. God bless.

#26 - Dude? Put more weight on the bar? The CrossFit Total was only 2 days ago.

I notice that your e-mail address is 'suckers@hotmail.com, so I assume your comment is a goof. But if it is not, your complaint is a joke.

Comment #27 - Posted by: John P. in Lake Stevens at November 5, 2009 9:19 PM

does every power snatch need to be from the ground..... or can I do them from a hang....

Comment #28 - Posted by: DC at November 5, 2009 9:36 PM

62 rounds as RX

Comment #29 - Posted by: ron at November 5, 2009 10:12 PM

#29:

62 rnds in 20 min = 3 rnds per minute
3 rnds per minute = 1 rnd every 20 seconds
1 rnd = 22 movements
22 movements every 20 seconds = more than 1 movement every second...amazing, or am I too skeptical?

Comment #30 - Posted by: mike wright at November 5, 2009 10:24 PM

I am guessing #29 meant to type "26" rounds, and just had a case of the fast-finger.

I don't like to say that anything is impossible, but I don't think that 62 rounds is in any way probable.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Crow at November 5, 2009 10:29 PM

only got 15 min on pullup ladder but I'm shooting for 17 rounds on todays wod.. I've never done this workout so here we go.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Adam Dickey at November 5, 2009 10:31 PM

My heart goes out to those who died today at Ft Hood and their families. I pray fir a speedy recovery for the injured. As fir those responsible - there can't be enough pain inflicted on you.

I will try to do this WO on Sunday in St Louis. . Any XFers in Nashville or St Louis want to meet up on Saturday, Sunday respectively? Hotel WOs are boring.

Comment #33 - Posted by: Jenn from CO f/39/5'8" at November 5, 2009 10:33 PM

This, my friends, is a nice looking WOD!

Comment #34 - Posted by: B. Rhaly at November 5, 2009 10:51 PM

#26 if this is an easy workout you are not working hard enough. Simple. You want to add more weight go on; however, I would be surprised if anyone did not gain training benefit from this WOD. Remember there is a difference between gaining a benefit, and simply beating oneself with a destructive session. By our nature most crossfitters can go to their gym and destroy themselves. Good to do every now and then - but won't get you stronger. Been doing crossfit since 2003 and still loving it. I certainly have not lost fitness over the last two years!

I believe you are supposed to go to ground between reps, touch and go. When the plates on the bar are tiny, I may not do an actual touch and go, but at least get close.

I am glad that you have finally found a forum in which you are free to express your uncensored comments. You and meathead are a match made in heaven.

Don't give me the freedom of speech spiel because it does not apply to this forum. If you want to continue ranting, start your own forum/blog. Once you count the number of readers, you will know the number of people interested in what you write.

Believe it or not, I do agree with SOME of your points. What bothers me is your incessant and whiny regurgitation of the same points. Also, publicly calling out GG in his own forum is rude. So post on meathead's blog and he will pat your head and make you feel good about yourself.

Comment #152 - Posted by: Jeff at November 6, 2009 10:46 AM

"heel" is spelled wrong in the text-overlay-thing at the beginning of the heel strike video. Unless it's a pun about healing your foot, in which case it wasn't really made clear.

I get out of the gym with a smile on my face now, every time! As for this WOD, i was 2 pull-ups away from 11 rounds. Way harder than expected!

Loved the Power Snatches. Could have launched the 65# through the ceiling if not for catching it. Felt lots power generated through hip extensions. Had to slow down towards the end since my form was starting to suffer from fatigue. Nicked my shins a few times with the barbell coming up. Wish my gym had bumper plates so that bar could be at 45's height instead of 10's. Great WOD though, still a bit wobbly if you know what I mean.

Just one more comment about the cult-fit stuff. Every new movement whether its exercise, spiritual, artistic, etc comes and goes in phases. Acceptance by many, denial/reduction, phasing away, re-acceptance. The love and denial of crossfit will eventually pass and a new system will pop up. But the principles of crossfit will come back into acceptance by all. Simply look at the fact that crossfit IS instead of what it is not or how it is better.

Wow, there's some real animals on here! I just started Crossfit a week ago, after realizing how much time I was wasting with traditional bodybuilding exercizes. I know olympic lifting, though, so I'm hitting the ground running

I traded pushups for dips and upped the reps from 10 to 12. Completed 8 rounds (about two minutes per for the first four, three minutes per for the last four), plus an extra 1/3 of a round in the final minute (wanted to get 100 reps of each).

Will shoot for 10 rounds next time!!

A little under the weather today. Any worse and I would not have worked out. I'm not sure if I feel better or worse post workout.

If I'm at a gym that doesn't have bumpers and I need less than 135 I stack plates on the floor to elevate the bar so I can put it down at about the correct height. Its not a perfect solution because they move, but it beats guessing if you're going down far enough each rep.

Tyler1- Welcome to the club LOL everybody's had a coupla WODs like that.

Rested yesterday and today. Extreme stress at work has left me exhausted and at the end of the day, I just need good food and sleep. I'm not afraid to take rest days anymore- (when I'm under 7 hrs sleep, when life becomes very hectic) it's good to know that as long as my nutrition stays together, I'm not going to "lose" anything.

in8girl- well bloodwork showed abnormal kidney functions still, still spilling out protein. No more swelling in extremities, though. The doc is going with lupus nephritis- either rhabdo induced a flare, or a lupus flare made me susceptible to rhabdo. Either way, doesn't matter. Sleep, nutrition and stress management are my keys to handling this. CrossFit is part of my identity- and that'll be part of my wellness Rx as well.

Kettlebell cert tomorrow at CF Ignite! The Goat & Pony will be there :)

12 as rxd... felt great.

As I walked to the gym I thought to myself this is my own personal "fight club". haha. You don't brag about how many rounds you can do, you don't grunt while doing one plate bench presses and best of all you can't wait to get to the gym to momentairly feel like sh$t from pushing yourself. Crossfit is a whole other level. All the day's stresses do not matter. 3,2,1 GO!

10min skipping (singles)
10min 250M laps

--carried it hooked behind my back, over head snatch position, back squat position and straight arms out front. Last lap was without the pipe.

The Kool-Aid was sure watered down today...did I feel like crap! I love the detractors who always kick off the comments; bet they didn't find this as easy as they thought. At the start, I thought I might be able to get 20 rounds, but was not hopeful...goal was 15 or 16. However, lack of energy, poor diet for one day (after fairly strict Paleo for 4 months) and I was dragging ass. The power snatch sounds so simple at 65 lbs, but 12 consecutive reps of a long ROM exercise is a butt-kicker.
All told; as rx'd:

As rx'd, 15 complete rounds.

Tough WOD - I was gassed after the first few rounds. Snatches started unbroken sets, switched to 8-4 about halfway through. 6-3-3 for the last. Pushups unbroken throughout, but later reps were slow and painful.

Had 8 rounds just before 10 minutes. In the last half, I was averaging about 60 seconds per round with a 30-second break following pushups, so I had 14 rounds with about a minute and a half left. Skipped the break on the last set, and pushed on through to get 15.

Some nice new callous tears (in different spots, since snatch grip is wider). Lovely.

Tough CV WOD beforehand (5x4' on/6' off), puked, and then got to CFing. Could've pushed a little harder on both, but I'm still feeling the DOMS from this WOD this morning so it was obviously much needed.

Sorry for the belatedness of this post, I'm simply relogging this past weeks WOD results digitally in case my journal ever goes up in flames or something...

Wow this workout destroyed me. It definitely put a hurting on my shoulders and cardio. Did it as prescribed except for doing hang power snatches instead of plain power snatches. I work out at a school gym so we only have small 10lb metal plates and I didn't want to snatch from so low on the ground. Was happy that I was able to do all of the snatch sets unbroken. Push-ups were broken the last few sets.

14 full rounds with a few seconds to spare.

[Done 17-Nov-2009]

Having a backoff or "taking it easy" cycle and thought that this could be a good workout if done with a comfortable pace.

I stopped after 7 rounds at ~12 minutes. Didn't want to push too much since this was supposed to be "active rest".

This was again one of those surprising wod's - look quite easy on a paper but the reality hits you quickly in the face once actually start doing it.

I guess the lesson here is that as the snatch is activating so big % of your muscles even the small weight will quickly make you gasp air.

I guess for the best result (number of rounds), you would do the snatches as smoothly and unexplosively as possible (something like the gireviks do the KB snatches). But for the best training effect these should be quite explosive I guess.
