This one I can't seem to make any progress on. 10 rounds and change every time. Need something special
gonna kill it!!
AMRAP's are back!!!
I've been waiting for this one to come around again :)
Wow! I've never done this one.....any advice?
#5-
Expect pain, and expect your grip to say bye-bye around round #6. Apparently the Khalipa-types can put up 14+ rounds but I've only been able to get 9.5 myself.
Anyone thinking of scaling this one up just to try something different? Maybe 135lbs and change the reps to 2/4/6 for 12 mins instead?
great.. already looking forward to my post workout nap after tomorrow's workout
By far my favorite workout, as for rounding it up, 125 but still at 20 minutes seems like a party for me. Hopefully tomorrow will be a rest day, hint hint - wink wink.
M/21/5'8"/185
This is my fav workout. It kills my forearms.
This is a true mental test, once you put the bar down to rest, it's very hard to pick it back up. My advice, don't put the bar down.
Aiming for 7 rds this time.
Arrggh, and I was hoping for a run 'cause my legs are dead...
hey, hey. Another one i've just done, just like most of you according to the compare to date...Anyway on 9/12/09:

Ave heart 167
PR'd on Fight Gone Bad today w/ 336 and I felt like crap afterwards. I've been sneezing and blowing my nose since. Anyone else ever get this post-WOD or do you think i'm just getting sick? It's happened to me before, so i'm hoping its exercise induced.
What a great picture. Way to make it work wherever you are. Thanks for your service, and keep up the hard work! Kind of unusual for no name to be attached.
Oh hey I did this one yesterday... Ive missed a week and am playing catch up....
as rx'd 10 rounds as the timer was beeping i finished my last sumo-deadlift(pr)
Oooooh I like this one! Don't worry, I'm not going to do it! I will coach Goat through this tomorrow. I can't workout yet so next best thing- coaching. I love it. I've converted almost all of my personal training clients to CF style workouts. Good fun! (lil nod to Elaine in Scotland)
I thought about posting on Angie that I had scaled to Larvae and did 1 rep each in 00:42
I'm unsure as to when I will return, it will be slow and unhurried. I will take a long on-ramp via BrandX buttercup/ puppies and ease on down the road from there. The healing process may take a while. I'm okay with that.
Someone asked about CPK, it peaked at 15,000. My liver enzymes were off as well, but I don't recall what they were. I'm getting labs done again Monday, will pick up all the labs and reports then. Rheumatologist appt on Monday, PCP on Friday. The swelling is not as bad, but still there.
I slept 11.5 hours last night- an all time record. Let's hope tonight brings similar success.
*I* can't yet- but you guys sure can- GIDDY UP!
Eric #7 -
I'm ready. I'm taping this one, and hope to get at least 11 but I honestly think I can do better than that. I will let you know how it goes.
I am amazed at how generous the Crossfit community is. I have gone from not being signed up for Fight Gone Bad 4 less than 6 days ago to generating $1000 under my name. More importantly, FGB4 is almost at the $1 million mark! Thank you to those of you who have given selflessly of your personal finance, time, and physical energy.
LOVE IT time to RAT UP again...20 minners are awesome!!! welcome to the "suck"!!!!
Fight Gone Bad is the HARDEST workout I've EVER done in my whole entire life. The DRY heat at Brand X didn't help. I don't know how those guys do it!
My 5 worst movements smushed into one workout. By the end of the first round I was trying to figure out how I could get away with running out the door. But instead all I could do was roll around on the ground in pain for my minute of "Rest".
I felt like I was going to burst into flames from the inside out and now I sound like an old man with a smokers cough.
This was my first (and my last if I can manage it) FGB experience and the only part I enjoyed was the support from the people watching. Nothing like our Crossfit community out there. Nothing. Where else can you go to have a cheering section encouraging you to keep up your efforts? Nowhere. I kept moving because of them.
I'm still experiencing the after effects... major CrossFit hangover. But I'm happy that I did it and even happier that it's over.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the event.
Sunday musings (from Crossfit 101)
1) Last call. Unless you are driving it's ALWAYS the right decision to say 'yes' when one more round is offered before you say 'so long' to good friends you won't see for several months.
2) Pigou. "The error of optimism dies in the crisis, but in dying it gives birth to an error of pessimism. This new error is born not an infant, but a giant."
Remember this as we move forward, out of our economic crisis and into the next phase of the American miracle. The deeper the recession in all previous American recessions, the bigger the bounce.
After a crisis or after massive change there are always both winners and losers. Someone has to win. It might as well be you.
Be ready. Plan to win.
3) Three words. "I love you." It's almost too obvious to state, but not a one of us says these words frequently enough to those we truly love. Say it early; say it often.
But we also fail to "hear" it when our loved ones say it to us because they don't always use those three exact words. It's just as important that we hear "I love you" when our college-aged son calls just to say hi between classes. When our Dad insists on parking the car and walking in with us at the airport. When our daughter "friends" us on Facebook.
We need to hear "I love you" when our spouse gets just as excited as we do over a new set of irons or a new dressage saddle, even if they don't play golf or ride a horse. "I love you" is coming through loud and clear when you receive a pass for that night out with friends or that 5 hour drive to see a "long-lost." It's there when a friend picks up a tab, or when he lets YOU get the tab because he knows it's important to you that you do.
"I love you" is more than three words, it's a conversation. Life is good--people are telling you they love you all the time, just not always with those three words. Listen.
4) Musings depressing? I rarely respond in any way to comments about musings, but an experienced, long-term commenter last week branded musings as "depressing". I spoke about avoiding both regret and desire, using them as metaphors for living in either the past or the future. Perhaps it was a little dense, the writing a little too cute and precious. I am guilty of that, probably rather frequently.
But I read it again and I think it really did say what I meant, that one should live mostly in the here and now. Neither concerned with what is past, not wishing to re-live or re-do, nor spending too much time in the tomorrow, hoping and wishing and wanting for the future.
Happy, without regret, to have had yesterday. Hoping, with little to covet, to have another tomorrow. Living, and loving, every minute of today.
I'll see you next week...
I'm a rookie - just started three weeks ago. Where do I go to see samples of these workouts if I can't make the gym and want to attempt these at home? Oh ya and what's FGB? Thx you all seem great and are very inspiring!
Bingo,
I hardly ever post anymore, but I do still lurk from time to time. I happened to see your musings for today and was especially struck by how we can hear "I love you" in the actions of our loved ones. Thank you. And I do not find your musings depressing; sounds like the one you're referring to would fit right in with some Buddhist beliefs (according to my Ethics class anyhow).
I spent some time up on Safwan, nice to see there's Xfit going on up there.
OIF 07-08
Thank you very much Bingo
remember this one being grip killing hard last time! For all those people having problems with hand rips on pull ups, especially kipping, I have tried a lot, a whole lot, of things to help. The greatest thing I have found is some inexpensive tennis racket grip from Target for $2.50. I wrapped it on my pull up bar about 5 weeks ago and have used it many times so far. Now that it has been farily well tested I thought I'd share here. It feels great and absolutely no rips, or even a blister, since. Hope this helps someone!

That is 2 days in a row I ended up on my back following the WoD.

Love this one, but I don't see how you guys are getting 10+ rds. I believe it is possible, I just don't know if I will ever get there. How long have you 10 plussers being doing CrossFit? I am about 4 months in myself and trying to forget everything I ever thought I knew about fitness previously...
Just back from the cert at CFX in Sydney.
Lots of fun, great coaching from some of the fittest in th world such as Jolie Gentry, Steve Willis, Pat Sherwood, Matt Swift and many others. Impossible not to learn.. I emerge from the weekend with a load of new skills, knowledge, technique and attitude. Best of all, lots of new Crossfit friends.
And in a few days...when I can walk again, I'll think back even more fondly on the weekend!
Bingo,
Thant was a nice read. Thanks!
Looking forward to smashing this, or it smashing me, WOD again.
rotator cuff exercises and shoulder rotations
CFWU x 3 (only 5 ghd situps and pullups per round)
5 minutes handstand practice.
100 double unders. done as 3 singles then a double etc for first 20 then two singles and a double for the remainder. obviously broken up a lot. I did not time them. That stressed my shoulders as much as the handstand practice.

As for me, I'm feeling better enough to go for 1/2 Angie. Still coughing up a lung. NOT going for a fast time, just going to complete the movements.
I was sick or overtired last time this came up. I did two rounds and got exceedingly lightheaded and saw stars. I plan to rip this one up as it's the only workout I've ever not finished. Next decision, 95# or less?

excellent work yesterday by all who participated in FGB4 as well as all that ran today in the tunnel to towers memorial run 5k for FDNY Firefighter Steven Sillers. He is a true Hero:
Stephen Siller, beloved husband and father of five, was a firefighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty, and on his way to golf with his 3 older brothers.
When Stephen heard on his scanner that the World Trade Center had been hit, he turned his vehicle around and headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, typically of him, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back.
He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen’s footsteps on that fateful day.
In running along his path, we honor the memory of all the Firefighters, Police, and EMS workers who performed their duty that day. In running this race, we are reclaiming still another part of the city for all our heroes and for all of those who died on 9/11.
They will never be forgotten

Wow,
I am amazed at the die hard followers of crossfit. I have been off and on for about 1 1/2 years now going between conventional bodybuilding and DC training and crossfit. In June 09 I finally took the plunge and slowly been building up my workouts.
I am certainly amazed at how great this lifestyle is. The workout is killing me, and after being an international level wrestler I was highly doubting this would work. Well, every workout makes me feel like a beginner and the paleo diet is right on.
Currently I'm in a little outpost in Baquba, Iraq so all we have to do is focus on our workout and diet. This has changed my life forever. Currently I'm 5'9", 245 lbs. I'm not fat but am smooth and not cut. Goal is 5'9" 205 lbs.
This posting keeping me honest and motivated. A thanks and Congrats goes out to all of you on here.
Today I did 10 rounds in 20 minutes and wish I died afterwards! Awesome!

It's been a long time since I have posted on here because I've had to stop crossfitting for awhile do to a back injury from DL's. I decided to stop so that I could try to let my back heal. Well it hasn't healed so I went to the dr. this week and had an mri done. It came back as a disk protrusion/herniation. I'm going back to the dr. this week to see what my options are. Do any of you have any ideas or advice as to what is going to happen? What should I expect from this. My biggest worry is that I won't be able to come back from this. Advice please!!

4 rounds + 5 Thrusters. Left about 2 minutes on the clock but was toast. My forearms are burning as I type this.
I thought about scaling down but wanted to test my strength against the WOD as prescribed and I wanted the weight to be heavy enough so that I would be less likely to try to muscle it up versus being explosive and using good technique.
Kudos to those grinding out 8-10 rounds...amazing!

Tried to game this one for 10 rounds by starting out at a pace of 2 min/round. Fell behind this pace in Round 5 and was unable to recover. Lost about 2 minutes in Rounds 1-4 that could have given me 9 Rounds + 5 Thrusters if I had played my cards better. Kudos to anyone who can get 10 rounds or more in this wod. I hope to join the 10 round club next time.....

Fabulous WOD! I was dripping, and all the other girls at Globo gym were looking at me like WTF?! while they were working on their machines
ATTENTION all i believe this work out to be unconstitutional it definately falls somewhere in there with water boarding (which would feel like a walk in the park compared to this wod). i am having trouble typing arms are shaking and seeing because rapid heart rate well anyway it was fun in a sick way, and only a lousy 7rounds for me. On a side note thanks to everyone in JAX FL for putting on a great FGB it was a pleasure to workout there thank you.

I am currently taking a food and nutrition course at my high school. The nutrition that we are being taught is disgusting. They recommend taking in 55% carbs, 30% fats, and no more than 15% protein! Meat is considered the borderline between fat and protein. Isn't this disgusting?! This is even being taught to the kid in the room who is a diabetic.
We are to do a research paper on a topic surrounding food and nutrition. I think I'm going to do it on the zone and paleo now.

Bingo,
“4) Musings depressing? I rarely respond in any way to comments about musings, but an experienced, long-term commenter last week branded musings as "depressing". I spoke about avoiding both regret and desire, using them as metaphors for living in either the past or the future. Perhaps it was a little dense, the writing a little too cute and precious.”
Come now, Bingo. He didn’t brand musings as depressing. He quoted one section where you clearly said that looking too far into the future invites “sadness,” ” resentment” and the “risk of madness.” Yeah, “depressing” is a good word to describe that. “Precious” is a good word, too.
And look up “metaphor.” I’m not sure exactly what you were doing, but you weren’t using regret and desire as metaphors. Nor should you have. I personally avoid metaphors like the plague.
Regardless, I do love you.

He should probably use a lighter weight next time though. Intensity seemed really high, but form suffered from lack of depth in thrusters and a shortened ROM in the SDHP. We need to work on flexibility for the SDHPs- he has trouble bending at the knees and the back is taking on most of the work.

Warm up-
Handstand work and some squats.
I needed a better warm up, add in cardio. Row or run.
Stregth-
Press 45x20, 95x10, 115x5
Cheating Press 135x5, 135x5, 135x5
(cheating press = mix of press until failure then push press to finish the set of 5)
Could have gone harder but I didn't have a power rack and this is my first WOD in about a month after taking time off to train for a fight and heal up afterwards.
MetCon-
AMRAP 15 min
95lb barbell
Press x 5
Front Squat x 5
Hang Powerclean x 5
Sumo Deadlift Highpull x 7
Total of 22 reps = mainsite WOD for total work
4 sets + 5 Press, 5 Front Squat
Scaled AMRAP from the mainsite due to the extra stregth work at the begining. I changed the thrusters to Press and Front Squat so that I could do a more controled movement and focus on my Front Squat form. I could have gone a little harder. I deffinately should have gotten 5 sets and proably close to 6. This is my first WOD in the cool weather and it made a huge difference. The heat and humidity really takesit all out of me.
In all it was a decent first WOD back after a break.
