CRUNCH!!!!
Freddy will be happy
New to CF and loving Burpees... why?
one foot above his reach hardly seems fair for that baby.
Well that should be lots of fun. ;-)
after my PR of 195# today the burpees are going to take a toll. using my fireman math that is like 150 burpees!!!!! which is a WOD by itself.
Watched the demo, and noticed a wide variety of form for the burpees. Seems to me sloppy form will get a faster time but less workout/gain muscle wise (not that it will be easy no matter what). I'm a newbie, so I wonder how strict I should be with form. IN particular, it appeared some went from squat to lower pushup rather than squat to plank to lower pushup. Or am I being too critical and should just shut up and bang them out?
Excellent FGB video. Love how the two videos overlap. Gave me chills.
.....can I pass?
This looks horrible especially after celebrating the start of college football season with Mr. Sam Adams and his 12 friends.
reap what you sow I guess?
Cute baby. Dang. This should be loads of fun. Bring it!

don't worry after the first two rounds we will all have equally sloppy burpees.
intensity is the goal for burpees as long as your body hits the floor and your hands hit the bar. my trainer at crossfit asylum does yell at us if we don't pop out of the plank and get our feet under us in a good squat position.
hey rlh,
I agree with E2fireman, our form will decay over time. By the way, yesterday did 'nicole' for the first time with some good friends on a track on campus. Man crossfitting with friends is awesome! My friend James is a distance runner so he was really good at pushing us to run faster. We subbed pushups for the pullups: 7 rounds, the first round was an all out sprint and definitely stopped us from being able to crank out rounds. Oh well, we had some really intense kicks towards the end. And some really good times joking on the track to keep our minds distracted from the pain.
Excited! Only my 2nd Crossfit workout yet. I can't wait. Speed endurance could definitely use this extra push. Note: no weights does not particularlyake for an easy workout.

Yesterdays WOD:
45kg,45,45,45,45,45,50(fx3)45
Cant wait to bust out the sprints & burpees in the morning - not much of an opportunity there for breathing - just how I like it.

Brilliant WOD - can't wait
Question...
Let me first start by saying that I am by no means where I want to be physically, but I am in decent shape. I do the WOD of the day every day and try and stick to the zone diet as close as I can. I watch these crossfit videos of the crossfit games and these guys are f'in monsters. I absolutely love crossfit, but want to step it up. How should I modify the workouts/diet to where I can really take it to the next level and really start to perform? Should I be doing two a days...and if so should I be doing main site and something else? I would really love to compete at some point. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Ouch. This is going to hurt. Will be knocking this out at KAF if anyone is looking for a workout partner.
is anyone here at JAF (Fenty)2100 doing this workout at Fenty Gym, my goal is to do it under 28-30 mins
Virgin workout! Let the games begin...

WOD looks tasty...football season and burpees, love it!
Seriously? I still need to be able to walk back to my Chu afterwords!

Sign up for the Journal and read like mad then listen to the mp3's of CF radio. lots of the fire breathers give little tid bits on CF radio. I don't think you need two a day, but i do hear that a few of the top dogs do some heavy lifting after a MetCon. Crossfit Wichita posts their WOD and you will see that on there often.
Our crew on E2 has found that building a good base of solid technque first then keep a log of our exercise and try to improve everytime.
#20 wally
just looking over my exercize log first C&J i logged was March '08 had a PR of 135#. Then November '08 PR of 170. Crushed that today with a PR of 195#. It is amazing how much improvement one can get in 18mo and I'll bet I only do half the WOD's in a given month. I can't wait for the day I can get 225#, two 45# plates on each side is going to look bad **S!
Haha! First time post of the day, dragging my ass in at 38.03 and barely walking. Can't wait for the CFE workout tonight.

Glasgow Half Marathon today with no running training apart from Crossfit. Possibility of doing todays wod during the event lol. Oh forgot to mention i'm running the race with a fellow crossfiter as Batman and Robin.
Nice! A burpee where you actually have to jump instead of that b.s. clapping over your head. But hey, even I would say that a 1' jump is pretty extreme :-)
Crashed into the wall on this one....got to 4 around 25 min and couldn't move anymore. Great way to spend the morning!
#20 Wally, the only your missing, that those guys have is time, stick to it, give your body time. it takes forever to get beastlike. you'll get there man.
1st WOD ever. 24:04 by this newly converted Crossfitter. Made the mistake of going out at a 6:00/mile pace...that changed real fast.

Wally,
stick at it bro and as the fireman suggested, note down all your scores
Remember to leave your ego at the gym door and remember that not everybody has the same gifts.
Judge your progress by your previous scores, not other people's. Not everybody can be the best. All you can do is be your best. But I bet your best is pretty darn good.
Try different strategies - training, nutrition, rest and see what works for you.
Most importantly, from somebody who has only just started to do this.....
Attend a box and take advice and training from fully certified trainers. Technique will be your best friend.
good luck
No workout today. I have a hang nail. Oh,it hurts so much.

Give your local Affiliate a call, and ask to join their team. They'll let you!
If that is impossible for some reason, register at FGB4.org, and begin raising money from friends and family. Do a modified FGB with whatever gear you can find. Invite your contributors to watch.
You don't need a team. You just need the will to make it happen!

Sunday musings...
1) Bartitsu. The real name for the martial art practiced by Sherlock Holmes, misnamed by Doyle as "Baritsu". Come on...you really want to know what this is too, don't you?
2) Where to live. Outside mag has an article "Where to live by the man who's lived everywhere." If you've lived "everywhere" IMO you've really LIVED nowhere. Why would I take that guy's advice?
3) Time. Trevor #33 becomes the first poster mentioned in musings. "Time is the only thing those guys have" that the rest of us don't. I was originally attracted to CF because of the extreme efficiency of working out this way. Time is the most valuable thing most of us don't have enough of. All of this "is the Main Page enough?" or "The Main page doesn't produce elite fitness" is just so much blather, and Trevor hits the nail on the head. Crossfit.com MP WOD's are the foundation upon which you can choose to build more of ANYTHING...if you have the time.
4) Drama. Lovely Daughter is involved in some rather typical college "chick" drama. Her big brother "The Heir" is diving right into the whirlpool with her (The Heir has yet to encounter any drama that wasn't worth his full effort). Looking at it from the 30,000 foot parental level it's all rather silly BS--a colossal waste of time.
But have you ever known a young person who did NOT engage in typical teen drama? With or without our new social media multipliers? I'm coming to think that "typical" may more accurately be "mandatory", because looking back over my life, the life of my siblings, and the lives of the Bingo progeny thus far, EVERYONE has has more than willingly waded in for a drama dunking. There must be some very key developmental processes that can only be completed with the addition of drama.
The modern social developmental "eye of newt".
5) Karma. Things happen for a reason, don't you think? I know I've always rebelled against this a bit simply because Grambingo always told me this after something turned out just as she said it would. The more I pay attention to the world spinning around me (and the more I grow up) the more it seems that Grambingo is right. Again.
On Friday, Crossfit Rest Day, I did indeed take the day off from the gym. I usually work out on Friday because I sneak out of the office at noon, and the afternoon belongs to me. But I was coming off 3 hard days "on", and I chose to hang out with a sick friend who was alone in his house, spouse at work and kids at school. Mrs Bingo had chores for me to do later so I went home just in time to be called back to the office (in my jeans and Tee) to see a 9yo autistic boy with a piece of metal in his eye.
Young Gregory is non-verbal, huge, and strong, and doesn't handle hospitals terribly well according to his Mom (a long-time patient). So Mom, my two partners and I took him into our laser room and had him lie down on the table of our mothballed $500,000 excimer laser. Using a magnifying lens and a headlight I managed to remove the piece of metal while Mom and BOTH of my partners held Gregory down, allowing my new patient to avoid a terrifying trip to the OR.
Why did I not use my Friday afternoon to do a WOD? Why is our laser still in the office, months after we agreed to return it to the manufacturer since we can't afford the latest upgrade? Why was everyone still in the office at 5:00 on a Friday afternoon on a Holiday weekend? It's simple...Gregory needed all three doctors. He needed me to have steady hands, the kind of hands I never have right after a WOD. And he needed that laser table, the best surface to contain him outside of an OR.
Things happen for a reason. I clearly needed the hug that Gregory, the autistic 9yo boy who shuns physical contact, walked over and gave me one day post-op.
I'll see you next week...

This was one of those workouts where the time in which you would like to finish continually changes. Before starting, I was thinking it would take about 25 minutes, about half way thru it changed to 30, then 35...then I just wanted to finish in under 40 minutes.

Oh . . . my . . . . . god!!!!!!
Hi all,
First Crossfit session today and I cn still feel the lung burn. Im nearly 46 years of age and found it sickening to say the least.
I didn't want to do the run as I have ankle problem frm rugby injuries. I did a 500m row instead as I have a cocept2 rower at home.
I have been through various stages of exercise since I stopped playing rugby 10 years ago (a lot of the rugby training was crossfit type training so just going back my youth)including concept2 for 2 for 5 years where I was doiung 100km per week and have best of a 7 min 2k and 15k for the hour. IF I WANT TO CHANGE THE RUNS TO ROWS HOW MUCH DISTANCE DO I ADD ON OR TAKE OFF.
Thanks
Chris

Brutally awesome stuff. First 400m felt fast and then a slow hobble for the remaining five. Burpees rock but were lame today - broke into sets of 5 with a short break to catch my breath after each mini set. Hey all! Scrat in the house! This wod was one tough mama bear - definately one for the record books. Got in in 27:06. Nothing to write home about but I will take it.
Shout out to Bingo comment 61. I am the mother of a selectively verbal 8 year old boy who also has autism, and from a mother's heart, THANK YOU! We have had our fair share of close calls with my son - the last one being choking on a gumball prior to church starting in January - that day took 10 years off of everyone's life in my family, as well as my church. Thankfully, we attend a church that is 2 min. from our hospital and an RN attends services with us. Together, everyone's combined efforts saved my child's life. I worried about this event causing a severe regression in my son's progress, but actually, the very opposite occured. He has done better and made steady gains since that incident. But had the ER surgeon just finished a wod, digging that gumball out of his throat with forceps would have been impossible. It wasn't that the gumball was huge - his tonsils were inflammed and the hymlich manuver failed to dislodge it. No matter, the Dr. had to have steady hands to make this happen or we were looking at a trachedomy. Can't spell that, please don't be critical. But I will never forget that day or the people who were there that saved my baby's life. Autism is such a mystery, but always remember that each case is as individual as people are themselves. Thank you Bingo for helping this family out. I know how that Mom felt, and she will never be able to put into words just how much she appreciates what you sacrificed for them that day. As a fellow crossfitter, I know that missing that wod is tough, but you can always rest assured that another wod is just waiting to have it's way with you. :) Thanks CrossFit world and Coaches for all that you do to keep us in top shape - not to mention constantly guessing what the world we are in for during the next session!
You all are wonderful! Take care and great job getting out there and sweating your booties off!!!

that was a huge bag of suck
Okay, the Burpees SUCKED! They are very similar to the '8-count Body-builders' I hated in the Marine Corps....LOL...
I did a relatively quick 400m lap to warm up. Once I started the WOD, the first lap was nice feeling. After the Burpees, the laps seemed to get VERY SLOW.
Anyway, I cut the Burpees to 15 instead of 25 so that I could get the 6 complete reps in. I started them fast and form was bad, so I did them very slow to work on form. I am pretty sure I was nowhere near a 12" jump, either.
Even with only doing 15 Burpees, the WOD still took me:
