Alright! I have been waiting for this WOD since my attending my Olympic Lifting cert the first weekend in August. I can't wait for the morning!
One of my favorite lifts.
I have been following crossfit for a while. But I still have not idea what 1-1-1-1-1-1 reps means. Help!!
Would anyone care to explain to a NOOB what all the "ones" mean? I've seen them in a bunch of other WOD's but never understood.
You are supposed to do 7 sets of 1 rep at max effort.
I cannot do clean and jerks due to crippled hands. I am missing severl fingers and cannot control the bar. What is a good sub? Is there anyone person I could exchange emails with that could/would help.
@ #7 : so does "max effort" mean the most that one could lift? Thanks.

ROD- you could hold a heavy kettlebell like a ball or a heavy medicine ball. May be way too light to achieve your 1RM but it's the same motion. blast out the reps

Hey guys,
I've been working at crossfit for a couple months now, and I've been having a lot of trouble with cleans of all varieties. It's been frustrating because cleans are incorporated into so many workouts, but I've not been able to regain full range of motion since suffering an elbow injury a few years ago.
I can't bend my arm back all the way, and consequently have been straining my shoulders, wrists, and back. I can do snatches and dumbell cleans, although I have not come close to perfecting the technique at those. Does anybody have any recommendations about what I could sub for the cleans in our WODs? Thanks for any help
First time doing crossfit tomorrow. I ave experience with te lifts so I'll see how it goes. Looks like alot of fun

The 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 is that for each one you do the most wieght that you can safely do. So you do one at say 150lbs and the up it by 5lbs for each rep you should get to the last two or three and be completely wiped and struggling to finish. The key is to be safe if you haven't done this movment before practice with very very low to no wieght and then do a different work out. If anyone feels that wrong or left anything important out please correct me.

I am in the Army and you are right the Army football program comes no where near the Navy. But to say that the Air Force Academy doesn't is pretty stupid. They play in the MWC and have been in the top 25 quite a few times in the last decade. Air Force is no slouch and can hang with Navy any day.
GO ARMY CROSSFIT. Good job BGCF - way to hold it down for the point. Wish it would have existed when i was there.

Rob is a beast. I recently went home to Idaho and showed a few of my old friends who are trainers at a "Gold's Gym", and they were completely perplexed that someone could do 100 body weight squats. Then I informed them that he did a wod the very next day! Rob you have all the respect in the world from me. I can't believe how incredibly strong you are. Keep up the good work.

Maybe you can increase the reps and go with a light weight, but still do the same movements. I mean, if you can do a shoulder press, deadlifts etc. Then it comes down to a balance issue, I've seen people do a Clean & Jerk with one hand. So with that being said, you should be able to develop the balance that is required to do it.
Yes it sucks, however even if you have to start at a 15 pound training bar, the skills will develop.

Jerks are never a problem for me (jerk PR is 175); if I can clean it, I can get it up.
Started off with squat cleans to prepare myself for when it got heavy, but kept catching higher with each lift. By the time I hit my PR's, I was catching in a high power clean - stupid!

Tied straps around logs in the yard. Worked my way up to a decent size (for me) log. Right now it's all work on form, rather than strength. But I like the feel of this lift. There is something graceful about it when I get the movement down.

I cant believe I pulled that off! I only recently got confident enough with that lift to go all out heavy(heavy for me anyways), The only thing is I need to get better at the jerk before I go any higher because for 185 and 190 I caught it below lock out and had to press it the last few inches.

first four sets were all full squat cleans with push jerk. plus a big difference making the cleans was using a hook grip (thanks Rodney)! the lifts of 135lbs were good powercleans, just not squat cleans. plus i failed to get the jerk on those two efforts. but 3 PRs today: 130lbs C&J/130lbs Squat Clean/135lbs Power Clean.

I leave for my Basic Military Officer Qualifications at 09:30 tomorrow morning with 100% confidence. Crossfit has been an enabler for me with respect to two key factors: 1) I now greatly exceed the BMOQ physical standards; and 2) I've learned how to persevere even when my body is screaming, "Hey idiot, quit before you kill yourself!". Consider this a general statement of thanks to the Crossfit community for facilitating my journey to this new chapter of my life, one that I can't wait to get started.

"The magic is in the movements, not the tools", therefore use whatever technique you can that preserves your joint integrity.
I have a similar limitation in elbow ROM due to old injury, and commonly use the sandbag clean as a sub for barbell cleans. Also, consider breaking the clean and jerk into its individual components and training that way: high pull, front squat, push press. Whatever you choose, always put your safety first and if it hurts in an injurious way don't do it.
Love the clean & jerk. Overhead strength limits me due to unstable soulder problems. Getting heaps better though.

I think I need to work on my front squat as I'm still really just power cleaning. The idea of catching even 135 that deep is horrifying. I can't make myself do it anymore that I could make myself jump off a building. I think my glutes are still just super weak. Today was my first time with clean and jerks. My form was a little dodgy at first but by rep 6 or 7 I was feeling good about my motions. But by that time I was worn out and didn't want to risk injuring by going up in weight. Figured I'd give myself an easier time in the future to use that muscle memory and set a new C&J PR.

couldn't finish the last two. I had just done Sunday's workout right before this. Not to mention I haven't done Olympic style since college. I know I can get 225 for sure on a day where I don't double up.

Had a lot of fun on this one as I was mostly working on technique. Question for the community - my gym doesn't have an olympic bar, so I'm left with the choice of loading up the curl bar or doing these with dumbells. I started with the curl bar and did 65-75-85-95-105lb. At this point my wrists start to feel off because I'm holding an angled bar. So then I went to dumbells and did 40-60-80lb. I believe my form is better with the bar.
