Ah... The "Filthy Fifties."
I'm probably gonnae get banned fae the gym for doin this the morra,as we're no allowed tae bring in k/b's either, but gottae get it done !
Nice Job, Jenny. Truly great work. Big congrats ~
I thought jumping pull-ups were shown to bring rhabdo? This is going to be almost impossible to do in a 24 but I'll try my best! Looks like a night work-out...
very inspiring.....!!!!!!
I really thought Friday was going to be this or FGB to finish that cycle. Guess starting the next one with it is even more sadistic...and fun. Get some!
would rather do this than the chipper
This'll make you want to eat clean!
Jenny O-Inspirational!
Franiel #6
JPU are verboten if you do slow negatives on the way down. It's the eccentric motion that promotes rhabdo in a timed PU event. Fast free-fall or push-down JPU are not a risk. Beginners working on increasing their PU capacity should NOT do JPU in a timed WOD; they should do band-assisted or gravitron assisted.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Jerry #6, that was very helpful. What month would you like to take to "pre-answer" questions for the newcomers?
her form on the deadlifts was horrible. Very very dangerous!!! she's risking permanent damage to her CNS for this. big mistake.
Gonna attack the filthy 50.
Thanks Coach!
#9 - I care about Rhabdo. I want to get fit, not injure myself.
#10 - Jerry, where can I learn about the cycles so that I can better understand the "cycles"?
Love the filthy 50!
So when they say Walking Lunge 50 steps, is that 50 steps each leg, or just 50 total steps?
Beautiful job Jenny. I am so glad you competed. When Nichole and I visited you and Charity in Snohomish I knew you guys were both amazing athletes and know everyone else knows too.
OK - it's time.
I started CrossFit last November, after I quit my old job and was referred to CF by an old fraternity brother. No relation in the events, but their coincidence is, in hindsight and my sight, divine, given that I had poured the past 15 years into my career at the complete ignorance of my formerly strong (I was a collegiate athlete) fitness.
It's now late July. I've dropped a net 20 pounds (220 to 190, then built back up to just over 2 bills). I checked my resting heartrate the other day; it was 45. I can do pullups. I can do handstand pushups. Heck, I'm practically back to my PR for a 2K row from college.
I still can't do muscle-ups. It's a process.
I spent the winter enjoying myself. I got back into excellent shape, thanks to CrossFit. I taught my son how to ski. I drove my wife crazy. It was awesome.
But after a well-needed sabbatical, I'll start working again on Monday. It's time.
This will be my first weeklong rest from CrossFit. I think I'll do some running, but that's about it. My body is telling me things. It seems to be thanking me for the work but saying that a little R&R might be in order.
I've got to say, though, that the past eight months have, indeed, been life-changing. Without quitting my old job, I never would have been able to commit mentally to the challenge of beginning a program like CF. And without CF, I don't think I would have gone through the past eight no-work months with my sanity intact.
Fortunately, my new work will (should!) allow me to continue the masochistic delight that is CrossFit. Stars align; things fall into place; good things do, indeed, happen.
Thanks Coach and CF community. Thanks FRAT for letting me enjoy your comaraderie vicariously. Thanks Barry, Bingo, Goat, Prole et al for the fun Rest Day conversations.
And have fun with the Filthy Fifty. I'm cheering you all on from the sidelines tomorrow.
Margarita in hand.
Chas
Wow. What a great video! Go Jenny! Sometimes I really need that level of inspiration to keep it up, especially looking at doing the filthy fifty tomorrow!
In the Adirondacks...
yesterday-
hit the gym next town over. Gym built over a salon/spa and has metal plated weights with a sign to shhhh, be quiet with the wts.
So I tried "Quiet Linda". lol, this did NOT go well. Long story short, I dropped a 95# bar on quad trying to catch it to so it would not crash and make noise. Nice bruise I am sporting now.
"Quiet Linda"
155 DL
95/85 clean
85 bp
time got all messed up. Oh well, still a fav workout.
Today, ran about a 10k in the morning. Gotta enjoy the mountains while I am home!
Erin
do we have to do jumping pull ups, or can i do kipping, just because our bar is really high (and it doesnt help that im short) i dont like releasing from the bar everytime to get down and jump up again
That video got me fired up. The Woman of Crossfit are the most inspirational people in the world and every time I witness something amazing like that it makes me smile. Good for you Jenny Olson! Still going strong at the young age of 38!
A side note, #15, out of everyone that posted, you had to be that guy and bring up her form...I think the last thing on her mind was keeping proper form. She wanted to get that bar off the ground and she did just that. We should all be applauding her as well as all the other athletes for those amazing feats, not critiquing them. Some other day, some other time.
Sorry #15,I was not referring to your post, I was referring to post #13. Just so everyone knows.
#16
50 steps total, so hopefully, 25 with each leg
At the same time as being inspired, I too was struck by the curvature of Jenny's back as she got to the heavy weights. Different backs might flex more or less, but I would think it would be a good idea to insert a note in videos like that (as I've seen before) about a certain technique not being recommended.
what's a good substitute for back extensions?
Heck yes, this is an excellent WOD to come back to! Can't wait for tomorrow already :) I've been gone for too long and need to get into the swing of things again! Especially after all the Games action!
For the love of Pete. What kinda super WOD is this? I'm gonna make a prediction on my time for this one...
17 hours, 2 mins, 34 seconds.
Oh what a way to welcome a Sunday afternoon. It is chauvinistic to look at people who do not X-fit as inferior?
Believe it or not, my gym doesn't have any contraption suitable for box jumps. Any sub ideas?
M/35/6'2"/185
Inspirational performance Jenny, Congratulations. Next time I dead lift there will be some yelling!
#30, tuck jumps usually work well for me.
Good sub for box jumps....
If you're in a gym then just jump up on a bench, IE for the bench press. Its only about 18" high and sometimes it tends to irritate gym personnel, but it works. Just jump extra high to compensate for the missing inches.
Idiot me did a 4 interval 4 exercise Ttabata interval on the rest day... This should be fun.
sooo, 2nd week on crossfit an down 12lbs. this was my first time trying this one, and by the time i got to the burpees i felt like i was going to look like pukey. i held it together, but i think breakfast might be light today!! lol
Loved the video on Jenny Olson. Please keep the crossfit athlete's stories coming!
YES! MY FAVORITE METHOD OF KICKING MY OWN A$$!!
#6 (hoping I understand the "24" comment correctly) I will also be doing this one at a 24..(Tualatin, OR) tomorrow. I have gotten enough of a rapport with the folks there that they even let me move some some equipment around, hang rings and use chalk - as long as I clean up and put away after wards.
#26
Good mornings are a good substitute for back extensions. It's basically putting a 45lb bar on your back and bending over while keeping your legs straight, then standing back up again.
I believe this sub is mentioned in the FAQ on the main site.
Nice the 50 and I just did "Three bars of Death" yesterday for fun. Well 7 weeks into my Crossfit dessert makeover and I am down 15lbs, and have taken my "Three bars of Death" from 31min to a PR yesterday of 18:24. Can't wait to see what happens in the next 7 weeks. To all the guys/gals out there get past the pain and great things happen. 3-2-1 GO.
I felt like I rolled snake eyes until Rookie mentioned the Games chipper. I feel a little more chipper now!
Thanks Rookie!
Oh yeah. This is going to hurt. I have to go rock climbing after. I do have to comment on one thing: jumping pull ups are not just "easy" pull ups. For me I can do 50 regular pull ups taxing myself less. Jumping pull ups are an all body destroyer.
Eric Gohl, lets see some work.
Jumping pull-ups? So do we have our feet on the ground and on a low bar at the same time and then jump into a pull-up, or is the pull-ups bar high enough so that we have to leave the ground in a jumping motion to get to it?
Sweet, double unders. My favorite.
Daniel Krull AKA "Franiel" at July 18, 2009 5:30 PM
Aren't you rhabdo-proof yet, man?
Chas at July 18, 2009 7:03 PM
Hey, you're welcome. Hope I didn't bore you too much.
Eric Gohl 22/5'10/162 at July 18, 2009 8:02 PM
Ahhh, I was wondering when I would see your name pop up. I take it you made your flight?
For the record, I have NEVER completed this workout. We'll see how it goes, but I am going to need to sub something for the back extensions, since I just do not have the equipment, and I have never been able to do a double under. Yikes.
Jenny - that video was so inspiring. You and your husband are amazing and I feel so privileged to know you. This is what CrossFit is about.
Ran my first 10k! Probably should have actually rested on my rest day considering this WOD...
Scaled to BrandX Pack (35 reps/set).
Time: 25'12"
F/33/63kg
Looks like a Fun one...
Amazing...amazing...amazing, congrats Jenny
Jenny,
Beautiful performance! Definitely come back next year!
So there was a triathalon in town ( I was not part of it) and I felt I had to do something to prove my self, so...
Three part WOD-on Saturday (Scaled)
FRAN
21-15-9
Thruster (75#)
Pull Ups
THEN
Run 2 Miles
THEN
Pack scaled Filthy Fifty (35 reps each)
Incline Pushups subbed for push press
DB Deadlifts (35#DB's) subbed for wall balls (75-Shoulders gone from FRAN)
Floor Wipers/75# subbed for KTE's
Tuck Jumps subbed for Double Unders
53:10--- Absolute Ouch. Hard to get through the burpees and tuck jumps (Pukie was chasing me). Still can not believe that I did that in under an hour.
Looks like I can go up to 85# on FRAN.
Goat (Comment #44)
When does somebody become "Rhabdo-Proof"? I'm just curious. I've only been in CF since january but really only been working out for over a year. Went from 200, 155, 185, 172, now 186.
I had trouble with double-unders when I first started working out. Way back in the day when I first started working out, I was working on it like a madman and now I prefer them over regular jump-roping... funny huh?
The only thing that's probably going to suck for me in order is my home-made wall ball, back extensions, and the burpees. I haven't done burpees in a long time. I think I can get the double-unders in one shot but we'll see. That one is probably my best advantage. I also have to figure out a way to GTG my ring muscle-ups. I just want to conquer it ya know?
Hi,
For the comments on technique. In various training method's rounded back lifting is incorporated into the programmes, the two very famous programmes that I can remember of the top of my head is "Westside Barbell" and "Dinosaur Training" both of these systems use rounded back lift's or out of postion lifts as "Westside" calls it. Me myself have used both the systems at various times with no problems ever with back pain. Deadlift PR 320kg(704lbs) a couple of years back, partials with more. The other thing some people dont seem to understand is that under contest pressure and situation that technique will never be spot on.
Rant over "Filthy fifty" looks good and hard, but I doubt that my technique will be perfect when finishing some of the reps.
Just want to comment on the ones complaining about Jennys form on the last lifts. I agree that the form is not a good one and of course it´s not something you should teach to others or do yourself in TRAINING.
But COME ON, it´s a competition for crying out loud!!
If you want to win or even improve your pref. you need to push yourself over the limit and then the form has to pay the price. As simple as that.
Look at all big meets in weightlifting, is their form perfect when they go for ther max rep. NO!
I think it´s a amazing pref of Jenny to first run 7k and then with a body weight of 130 lift a new PR 355 like that. I am impressed!
That is a great video to show to people who say people who train CF are not strong. She sets a 25lbs PR on a deadlift after a trail run, little rest and pulling heavy (last rep is about 2.7X bodyweight, insane) with 30sec rest. Unbelievable.
45:59 as rx'd
This thing looked hard to begin with. It turned out to be even harder.
"Filthy fifty"
As Rx'd
Time: 14.45mins
Went for Gold!!!! hard,feeling sick.
Great result of Jenny, hats of to her big heart. But her technique... it's just to dangerous, it might has taken its toll.
A rarely mentioned sub for back extensions is to lie face down on the ground, then lift your arms and legs simultaneously so your quads get off the ground, as well as your shoulders, while your stomach still touches the ground.
Yee-Haw...cant wait to wake up after a brief nap this AM (worked all night). Been waiting on this one for a a few weeks now....
Right about the time the dirty thought pops into my head that "this is going to be hard" or "I dont know if I can do this", I think back to the second time I ever did "The 50". I say the second time because thats when I could actually see drastic improvements in overall time from the first. And it just keeps getting better from there!
As RX'd, 45 minutes. First time with the filthy five-oh.
Double-unders were a non-starter; subbed with a basic jump rope. I have to look at comment #62 as being a wise man; it is the long-term effects that I'm going for, not a quick fix. Very well said, 62.
Done this work out at Crossfit Northern Ireland on Wednesday, I had a rest day yesterday as they are closed this weekend and Coach B is over taking a Olympic Lifting Cert!
I was well please to see that I would be re doing the Filthy Fifty! I had to go to a Globo Gym so no Wall Ball, subbbed with Thruster and done knees to chest - time 38.23 (5 mins slower than Wednesday!)
Sub's : Push Press (35# KB)
35# KB Thrusters for Wall Ball
Burpees were just up downs (too much Puke in my mouth
Otherwise as Rx'd

Jenny-
Way to Go! No excuses, just excellence. God Bless You.
-Karen
I think it's important to distinguish between "complaining about Jenny's form" and recognizing teachable moments. CF videos generally qualify as those. Most viewers will likely learn something just from seeing how into it she was. Regardless, I think there is an additional opportunity to teach.
Form degradation happens with sufficient intensity. When it does, I have found it super valuable on past videos when someone added comments (usually text). By acknowledging the degradation (not the same as belittling the model), we can stay clear about what we are shooting for and what might be dangerous to mimic.
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box

45 minutes. The "Knee to elbows" was very tuff and costet a lot of time.
Also the Burpees at the end, i have to split in 5.
I total agree with #15, Im still sorta a newbe and I need to scale this down to the "Dirty Thrity".
#21 - our excelent trainers/leaders have us stand on a box and add weights ontop if need to get the height. This way our hands dont leave the bar.
I loved this video, makes me push myself harded. Loved the scream at the end, sometimes I feel like doing that!
Form is everything, I agree. BUT this is not a training video. I agree that a warning could be added to posts informing that "certain techniques not recommended". There is one in every crowd to pick apart an amazing accomplishment within someone else.
That was a great video; what a cool shot of her expression after she acomplished a new PR.
I am looking forward to today's 50/50 WOD,..... but still sore from the 120/120 workout 2 days ago- maybe the 50/50 uses enough different muscle groups that it wont endanger me of overtraining?
Any comments to help me? I am new...

Hands down, that is the best video that has come from CrossFit!
ok what freak of nature posts a sub 15??? amazing - nice work.
my fat ass mustered a 39:47 (pr) after DNFing last 2 times this came up (subbed sit-ups and tuck jumps). burpees took me full 10 min.

Only had 20 minutes to workout so I decided to see how much I could accomplish in that time.
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
probably could have finished in another 5 minutes or so I am guessing....
Rx'd 54 minutes...slow...but complete
Can someone answer the jumping pull-up question?
Do we jump up to a bar into a pull-up,
or is the bar supposed to be low enough that our hands can touch the bar when our feet do?
This little difference should make a huge difference in time.
Hot damn that was intense, nice work Jenny!
Comment #87, Daniel, there's a video of jumping pull-ups on the Exercises and Demos page. Check it out.
41/m/176cm/72kg

Everything else as prescribed.

My first ever Crossfit session.
I'm very embarrassed indeed by my time so will not yet be publishing it but I completed it all with the exception of the double-unders. I changed those to regular jump-rope and did 200 instead as I've never been able to do double-unders and wasn't going to roam in to the 45min+ area on a skill I can't yet do!
So on to tomorrow!
Sunday musings...
1) Tom Watson. 'Nuff said.
2) Buddha. "There is only one moment of time when it is essential to awaken. That moment is now." (Courtesy of Andrea Joy Cohen).
I like that a lot.
3) First Muscle-up. If you are a gymnast this is something that you achieve before your 10th birthday. If you are a Crossfitter who does not come from a gymnastic background, however, the first MU is a reportable event met by cheers and congratulations. Most of us report our first MU here, in the cybergym, and receive our 'attaboys' with a big cyberhug. The ultimate first MU experience used to be to achieve the MU at a level 1 cert in front of 20 CF'ers in a break-out session.
No more. Two athletes got their first MU in the final WOD of the Crossfit Games in front of 3000 screaming Crossfitters. How cool is that? The hair on the back of my neck still stands up when I remember the roar after Annie got hers.
4) Little gestures. We live in a age where our President specializes in Grand Gestures. Big Ideas. Everything in capital letters. No small problems or issues, just one crisis after another, each one dealt with via enormous responses announced with grand language, no rhetorical or policy flourish too grand. In fact, the bigger the better.
In our daily lives, though, not so much. It seems to me that the happiest people I've come across are those people who have mastered the small gesture. People who manage to both make, and to recognize when other people have made, a small gesture of kindness. The tinier the gesture noted or made the happier the person.
The happiness comes from realizing how much it means to others when you make those gestures, even if they don't or can't acknowledge it themselves. The good feeling comes not only from receiving another's kindness but from thanking them for that tiniest of gestures and seeing them feel good about having done it.
On first blush it sounds like a lot of work, eh? But how much work is it to do what most of us do every day staying on guard for the opposite? How we are always standing watch for the insult, the dis, or the dismissal? The work is equal, I think; we are just in the habit of seeking, seeing, and reacting to the negative. Trust me, it feels better to thank and be thanked for even the tiniest of good deed.
It's a kind of "smelling the roses" thing, only the roses are tiny; we tend a tiny rose garden of our own while we actively search out the gardens of others. Our world is filled with tiny roses, yet most of us move through that world blind to the gardens. The happiest among us not only choose to see the tiny roses but they also choose to compliment the other gardeners.
Do the next, tiny, right thing.
I'll see you next week...

Should not have done this. I am nursing an injured (we think) right shoulder and my common sense told me to sit it out. However, my ego won the battle and now here I am drenched in sweat, hoping I didn't screw myself up too badly.
I know, I know...don't even say it Herm :-)

Next time I'm going to try and break up the work by pacing. I can knock out most of the exercise's in 2 minutes and some in 1. When I get to the Wall Ball's and Burpee's that's where the hold up is. Next time all try 2 min sets. If I'm done before 2 min. then I'll rest.
Having seen other people's times I don't feel so bad now.
I wrote earlier that I was too embarrassed to reveal mine but I came in at 43mins having only sub'd the DU's for 200 singles. Happy Days and not bad for my first ever CF session.

We have our own CF gym here on our camp and again life changing. I go on leave in a few weeks and am already signed up for my Level 1 cert and KB cert. Thanks Cross Fit.

Wow my shoulders are on fire. I've doing crossfit for two weeks now. That was my first Filthy Fifty. I had to sub wall balls with thrusters because I did not have a 20 lbs ball or a wall 10ft high. My time 37min 25secs. I'm really proud of myself. I had a lot of fun but I did not think I was going to make it through the Burpees. I had to do five at a time with breaks in between.

Tough, but I made very rep count. Today is also a PR in terms of the subs I used: all were higher/heavier than last time. I first checked my watch after 10 DUs, certain that I was very slow, only to discover than I was at 38:10 with only 40 DUs left! Exciting, since I nearly gave up during the thrusters and burpees, breaking them up into sets of 5.
Recently, I noticed that someone who regularly posts (I forget who) always mentioned that they foam-rolled after the WOD. I didn't know what that meant so I searched for foam rollers and learned more about them. Long story short: I bought one and love it! Another good hurt. It's evening me out, and I feel more limber in the mornings.

Indeed, when all is said and done, my spine will be able to take a lot less abuse than my ultra-thick skull. Sometimes I wish my skin was as thick as my bony forehead.
So I was doing the 30 mu's today, only singles cause I have never done them before today. Anyways on my 22nd rep i tried to pull myself up and my left arm gave out. Now i have a sharp pain when I do certain motions. It feels like my bicep or where my bicep/forearm connect. Just a pull or perhaps more? Any input?

burpees took 7 minutes and just killed me, from now on burpees are in my warmup.
#51 - Franiel - I think becoming Rabdo proof has many diferent factors. How hard do you push it consistantly. If you were comming into Crossfit from a working out back ground or know how it is to work in an anerobic state. These are the questions. Are you hitting the WODs with increasing intesity with less scaling for at least 2-4 months? While doing this, has your times been going down? If the answer to those questions were yes, then you are probobly Rabdo proof.
When charting this I have seen the X factor. This is an incredable of increase in work performed. Weight, reps, etc goes up. Time performed goes down.
Goat - You can do it! It took me 8 months to learn consistant double unders. It takes time. Today I stunk on them. LOL. I also used to think this workout was imposible when I read about it in Men's fitness. My goal is to beat some of those times.
I have done major adventure races, mountain bike races, break dancing battles (almost worse than FGB), on and on, and I have always trained to do better. I would sometimes see some increase in strength, speed, etc., But nothing like Crossfit.
I will my post time later.
Do you ever have the illusion of speed and get done and find out you were slower?
That is a serious bummer. I thought I rocked the burpees this time but on further review it took just as long as last time.

Very disapointed. I wanted to be under 30 minutes. I paced in the begininng took much and fell apart during the burpees then my double unders sucked and they usually don't. I have done this WOD 4 times now, 2 rx'd. I know there has been discussion about gamming a WOD. I do think you have to have some kinds of gameplan based on strengths/ weaknesses.
Herm - I analize the longer complex WODs for stragities. For the heavy lift days, I just look at my last PR and go for it. No thought. I tend to not sleep as good if I know this, FGB or Eva is coming up. Heavy cleans; no problem.
Note: I can't gain muscle weight no matter what. I thought I did last week. It ended up being vacation food and beer. 3 metcons later, I'm back down to 160. I need the muscle for the heavy lifts!

I remember this one from last time. It was so bad last time that I procrastinated 4 hours today before starting, so I only got going at noon on empty stomach (I knew it would be empty at the end).
1:20 faster than last time for the same thing. I acutally was a little slower in the beginning rounds, but made up a few minutes in the middle and lost much of that in burpees.
I felt better at the end this time however. Although that indicates I didn't push as hard, I went too hard last time and felt sick (chills and shaking). This time, I was simply beat, which is where I prefer to be.
I need a taller box. 8" is too low, even for me.
On a positive note, a few hours later I was practicing jumprope and actually hit a few double unders. Not 50, more like 3. But still..
This WOD damn near killed me.

I'm still a lil bit nauseous from this. Sprawled on couch, not feeling well again. Was almost sick afterwards, ate some and felt better, now sick again. Feel like if I moved suddenly, I'd toss everything.

FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE JENNY!
OK, maybe her form slipped...we're talking a championship here! If bending my legs was going to save me from a fall on balance beam during competition, I damn well bent my knees to stay on.

As enjoyable as it was painful...gotta love Crossfit where cooldown means fall on the floor, flop once, and curl up in the fetal postion, with fish eyes to the sky.
No choice but the scale and sub some things:
50 18" Box Jumps (I've only got 18")
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 37-1/2 pound
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
40 Knees to elbows(some misses) plus 15 situps.
50 Push press, 65 pounds (shoulda' remembered here that the burpees were coming up)
50 45# Good Mornings
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball with cat weaving in and out of my feet (Dropped one and almost killed Latigo the Cat--haven't seen her since)
50 Burpees (holy crap)
50 Single Unders
54:50
Burpees called the shots...in powerlifting they say "The meet isn't over until the weight hits the floor" (Meaning Deadlift determines the win). In filthy 50 I say "The wait isn't over until the meat hits the floor."
Going from sea level to 5000 feet for a week...can't wait to see what's in store for this week's WODs.
Just started doing the .com WODs a few days ago. Looking forward to see where this takes me.

37:31, I'm still in my first month of Crossfit and subbed a few things because due to lack of equipment and fitness, (pull-ups on the Total Gym machine, knees->elbows horizontal on the bench, back extensions on the workout ball, wall balls were 25 lb. plate thrusters, did burpees down to knees, and 100 singles on the jump rope)
workout still kicked my butt - I ran the fastest 5-miler of my life yesterday and felt like I was rockin' - now it's back to work

snatch work before and d/h/pull-ups,and kipping.

Shouldn't be surprised though, My diet has steadily slid since the last Filthy Fifty due to a number of excuses. Kim and I have been planning on starting back on the Zone tomorrow for the last several weeks--needless to say, we've been hitting the crack (aka ice cream, cake, bread, you name it) pretty hard lately.
Well the vacation is over - time to get serious about the diet and see some PRs again!

45lb shoulder press for wall ball (i know its not a good sub)
tuck jumps for du
felt like i was going to puke after back extensions, then like i was REALLY going to puke after shoulder press, but there was no where to throw up in the gym so i went outside to a track, lost all momentum, started feeling sorry for myself and it was a pathetic day.

Wow, I finally get it. I've been playing around with double-unders lately and can get one or two in a row. I also decited to scale the WOD down to the filthy thirty. I pretty much brezed through everything till I got to the burpees, as always they just crush me and suck me dry. So I grab the jump rope and figure I'll do these in like runs of 1-3 and just get some more practice... yeah I couldn't do ANY. They just require so much skill and focus and control that after you're worn down by everything and then slamed with the burpees... anyone who can do this WOD as rx'd is speal-esque as far as i'm conserned.

I took my homemade medicine ball to the local globo to workout with some friends. One of them dropped it from a 14-foot shot during warm-up and it exploded, scattering sand all over. It was quite amusing.
I had to sub 10-lb wall balls, otherwise as rx'd.

No pun intended, but I hit my wall during the wall ball shots. Holy heck, I think I doubled my overall time doing just the wall balls and burpies. Oh well, just another goat to add to my herd. I'll start walking that one through a minefield here this week in an effort to get rid of it, or, at least, blow off a leg or two so it doesn't wear me down so much.

1st time with the FILTHY...whooo so glad its over. I am happy with my time could have been better but I thought I was going to do like 45 mins or so. Wall balls are 1 of my weakness and the burpees after that ate a big chunk of my time. I just got to push thru harder and rest less.
DO WORK!!!
Well this one was hard to say the least.
I threw up 6 times.
I not only hit the wall, I carried it through the burpees and double unders.
I took 22 minutes to get to the burpees it then took me 10:30 to complete the burpees. I was hurting.

Box jumps, db swings and lunges were only unbroken sets. Started to fade off of PR pace as early as lunges. Really off pace by end of burpees. Felt sickly by the end of knees to elbows. One bright spot at the end. I have never been able to string together multiple double-unders in this workout, always too fatigued. This time got one set of 18 and several others of 7-10. Otherwise, the effort would have approached 45 min.

50 Box jump, 24 inch box - unbroken
50 Jumping pull-ups - unbroken

Walking Lunge, 50 steps - unbroken
50 Knees to elbows - did in sets of 10, last ten knees weren't making it all the way to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds - broken 25,15,10
50 Back extensions - broken 15,15,10,10
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball - broken 30,20
50 Burpees - forget these so went back after the double unders and broke them into sets of ten and was laid out on the floor in between each set
50 Double unders - broken due to timing 22,12,16
Last time I did this one was a few weeks into me starting crossfit and I don't think I completed it, and the things I did complete were significantly scaled down. This time, felt strong up until the knees to elbows, and I wasn't smoked until the burpees.
Still looking for last time's notes, but HUGE PR on this one:
Box jump (onto bench)- 1:58.45 (25/15/10)
Jumping PUs - 1:23.60 (25/15/10)
35lb db swings - 2:25.49 (25/25)
Walking Lunge - 1:34.54 (35/15)

Push press - 2:11.47 (25/15/10)

Wall balls (straight into air) - 4:12.88 (20/20/10)
Burpees - 7:06.79 (5's... still crash here)
Doubles - 1:29.94 (weighted rope... forgot mine)

A lot slower than my PR (34:52) :( I just got back from vacation, so wasn't expecting a new PR today. However, what got me was the double-unders. My old skip rope broke, and I used a crappy one today. It took 10+ minutes to get through the double-unders. Not from exhaustion - kept catching the rope.
0/3 on finishing this WOD. Always some lingering injury that rears its ugly head around the wallballs. Oh well, I'm a loser.

Very happy to break 30 - the difference was double-unders. I was hoping to get to burpees by 20 min, then planned to allow 5 minutes of burpees and 5 minutes for DUs. I was ahead on time initially but wall-ball slowed me down so was right at 20 min. on starting burpees. Tried a new thing - get 15's as long as I could. Still burpee hell, but less time resting in hell. Double-unders went a lot better, I've never strung them together like this, although the last two were a real struggle.
I hope this doesn't come up again for a long time.

Joshua, impressive that you stuck with it, congrats.
I humble suggestion - scale this to a level that you can complete in 40 minutes or less. Make it shorter, faster, harder.
Try a 20 rep version next time and you'll know what I mean. paul
Did CFSB Press, to 147x3
Did recovery version of FF, 10 reps, 5.27. Perfect to get me moving, work out the kinks, but not beat me up again.
Two break throughs this week but also twice knocked my own dxxk in the dirt - hopefully back up to speed tomorrow.
First time, super difficult but I finished it. No where to do jumping pullups, did assisted and only 35, did 45# for first 20 push press, 30# for last 30, thrusters did 30# after 3 minutes of horrible wall ball attempts (need to practice before just doing them). Subbed tuck jumps, no where to jump rope, subbed sit ups for K2E, no box, jumped to second stair. Lost time on wall ball attempts and getting to location for stairs and wall balls. Next time, as rx'd.

I forgot to say: this was the first time doing filthy 50 when the back extentions were a killer... I was a little worried going into the Burpees, but I did 5x10 with about 10-15 secs rest between each set and just kept hammering down.. the push presses were almost unbroken... WAY off my personal best of 36 minutes flat. The knees to elbows REALLY slowed me down as it always does. About wall ball time I truly felt I was going to puke. The reward I had was these two muscle heads 20 years younger than me in the gym yacking about muscle failure as they sauntered through a workout from a muscle magazine. As I was doing the knees to elbows one of them pointed at me and said "Damn, he is on a whole different level ain't he?" The other guy said, "Far out old man, that's for sure." I love you, Cross Fit!

Thank you to all the Certification coaches, Rogue Fitness staff and, fellow X-fitters whom attended the L1 cert at Rogue fitness this weekend, for making my experience an extremely enlightening one. The lecture portions were very helpful they’ve greatly increased my understanding of crossfit programming as well as the crossfit nutritional prescription. My experience was well worth the time and money. My only complainant is the cert left me with a craving for more knowledge and exposure to the various training modalities but, that’s not really a complainant at all.

As Rx'ed in about 45:44.
That is a generous estimate. I messed up and didn't start the stopwatch until i had 25 jumping pull ups left. So, actual time was 38:44, and I added 5 minutes for the box jumps (being very generous) and two minutes for the 1st 25 jumping pull ups (being even more generous, I did the first 25 jumping pull-ups unbroken). Felt way better than last time, when i had a 58:51, when I totally gassed on the burpees. This time, I handled them alot better, in sets of 5 and 10.
I didn't do the ball throws or burpees because I was not feeling it. Everything else as RX'd took me 35 minutes.
One of the things I love about crossfit is the different shoulder exercises. My shoulders are so weak and anything with high reps just destroys me.

Pretty good job pushing overall. Still lots of room for improvement on burpees. K to E could've been little better if stomach wasn't still tender from GHD's last Sunday (at least I think that was the problem.) 3 breaks on WB. Too many.
All as Rx'd except did 100 singles instead of doubles. Need to suck it up & start doing DU.

First time doing CrossFit, seems like I decided to start on a hard core day. Didn't time my work out due to the fact that the gym I work out at doesn't have kettle weights or wall ball. Look forward to this new style of fitness!
