without knowing too much about your fitness level, my topline advice to you if it is your 4th workout is to scale. Perhaps do 3 rounds as r/x if the pull ups and swing are OK manageable or...perhaps do 5 rounds with 15 pull ups and a 1 pood/35# swing.

This is an incredibly taxing WOD and you/I/we all want to get the benefits of intense fitness training but also live to fight another day

just my opinion

Comment #23 - Posted by: nick sydney m/37/6ft/185 at June 29, 2009 6:57 PM

I think this workout would go faster if an Eva T calendar was on the line, but I think too many people would cheat to get it.

Meanwhile, I just got around to watching the clip of Mark Rippetoe's hip discussion on the CrossFit Journal. It was great, as usual, but I thought I'd check his book Starting Strength as a follow-up.

The book was funnier than usual, since I could hear his voice as I re-read the squat chapter. He was teaching straight out of it, but it had been like hearing it for the first time. Oh well. I should have the squat down eventually, including keeping my knees out. After all, it's only been 17 years since I started working on it.

Comment #24 - Posted by: WeemsFit at June 29, 2009 7:10 PM

ohhhh the kettle bell swings are gonna hurt!!!!!

Comment #25 - Posted by: chris at June 29, 2009 7:11 PM

That cadet was sliding his grip in when he turned over the bar. His grip when he was doing the front squats has to be outside his shoulders.

2 pood = OMG this is gonna hurt!!!!!!

Comment #27 - Posted by: chris at June 29, 2009 7:12 PM

#20 Michael,

nick sydney is absolutely right, definately NEED to scale this one big time. The elite male crossfitters can do this one sub 30mins (less than 30 minutes. Your goal should be to scale this WOD appropriately so that you finish in roughly that same amount of time. Aim for 30 minutes (plus or minus a few minutes) and you could always cut yourself off at 30 minutes if you scaled inappropriately. A little bit of trial and error is necessary here of course before you get it right. And remember, WODs always look easier on paper, so error on the side of caution. Especially if you do all 5 rounds and keep the reps at 30 (while scaling the weight of course) because 150 KB swings can really f*ck you up...not to mention 150 pullups (should probably be jumping) and a 4km run just sucks balls....scale it back and go at it hard! Best of luck. Let us know what you end up doing and how it went.

Cheers

I've been doing Crossfit for about 8 mos. and I'm not going to lie this is the hardest WOD I've come across. You have to be a beast to do it as Rx'd and finish.

out.

Comment #31 - Posted by: CbusA at June 29, 2009 7:25 PM

What does everyone think of a 4-month-in crossfitter doing this as RX-d? I'm predicting >30 minutes, and I'm not really seeing a 70-lb. dumbbell getting swung 150 times. Do I start with it as RX'd, or scale it off the bat. FRAT? Kempie? Others?

Thanks, God Bless

Hey Y'all,

This will probably my 8th CF workout. I've had to scale down a bunch. I'm worried it may be too much. Too much football back in the day has turned into 4 knee surgeries so the running hurts right now. Doesn't help that I played OL for 14 years so my measurables are a lot larger than others.

How do y'all do the running stuff and then the lifts if you aren't at a gym? Can you do the running and then go to the gym to do the other stuff. Thanks. Austin

Holy crap...Saturdays 3.2K run nearly killed me. My running sucks, especially on the treadmill, especially running between 2 floors at the gym. Not sure I can handle 5 rounds of 800m.

Not even going to discuss the pull ups. Will be doing assisted ones for sure. Or maybe just scale the reps and go full out. We will see....

I have done this one twice. First time was 55something, w/ 70lb db. This is the only crossfit workout I have ever done where I honestly didn't think I was going to make it through. Not with a slow time, but I mean AT ALL. Very hard, I encourage scaling.

Second time was 41:40ish I think, with my (then) newly bought 2 pood kb.

Remember, 70 pounds is alot to be throwing around. Don't get hurt.

Comment #53 - Posted by: Jon Schmalensee at June 29, 2009 9:57 PM

I don't post that much any more but I have to say that "Eva" is a seriously bone crushing WOD and if you're new to crossfit, scale the WOD, there is no shame in that at all.

About the video, Todd, you are an awesome coach :-)

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

Quick question, this poodball swing, is it 30x for each side, or is it a total of 30 for both sides?

Death by EVA..........Can't wait to tackle this mother of a WOD. It is one of the hardest WOD's in the CF arsenal.

Comment #56 - Posted by: Doug B. at June 29, 2009 10:52 PM

***FRAT***

1 week post-op for my right shoulder athroscopy surgery. Follow-up appointment was today. The PA took out the stitches and reviewed the surgery with me. She said to me "You had one really torn up shoulder, buddy!"

The SLAP repair included 3 suture anchors this time (as opposed to one for the left repair in Feb 09), the Subscapularis was repaired with 2 fiber wire sutures, and the subacromial space was increased by flattening the acromion process (acromioplasty) and removing the subacromial bursa sac.

The SLAP tear was described as extensive, torn from the 11 o'clock to 2 o'clock positions. The subscapularis had a 1.5 cm longitudinal tear (looks as if someone filleted it lengthwise) The bicep tendon was 10-15% torn, and it was smoothed down/cleaned up.

Looking forward to healthy shoulders, but that entails RESTING, and this time, both shoulders must rest.

Doing it right - healing it up ONCE x2!

#55 Marvin: walk over to your 72 pound KB and try doing a few with one arm. I think you can probably guess afterwards what Coach meant. If not, here goes: 30x swings, most people use two hands, but it would be He-Man to alternate hands.

This WOD can f*ck a person up, so don't get hurt. Tape would not be a bad idea. The weight and volume of swings can do bad things to hands.

I've done 3 rounds + 10 swings + 10 pullups + 100 meters before on occasion (I like round numbers) and felt reasonably justified in calling it a day. For the people where this is their 3rd or 4th or (some small number)th WOD, you might consider something similar. The first time I did this WOD, I did the whole thing, and the only thing I had to show for it (vs. a scaled version) was a lot more torn calluses.

See youse in the AM...

Comment #61 - Posted by: Tim T at June 29, 2009 11:19 PM

This is my 2nd week doing crossfit.

This hurt bad.

I managed to do 3 clean rounds in about 30 minutes, and the 4th round required some assisted pullups.

Props to you guys that can pound this one out, I called it after the 4th set and finished with some traps/abs workouts.

GOOD WORKOUT!

dont have 2 poooooooooooooooood. could i do double the swings with a 16kg?

Comment #68 - Posted by: b at June 30, 2009 1:08 AM

Ouch - that's gonna leave a mark!

5 rounds for time - we've all got that by now

Run 800m - or half a mile. Gotta question what the run will look like after 2 or 3 rounds

30 kettlebell swings, 2 pood - a pood is 16kg or 35lb so a 70lb kettlebell or dumbbell will do the job. From between the legs to overhead

30 pull uups - kipped is pretty much the only way tis volume is going to happen, especially with the added insult of the swings.

I always thought Eva was lovely - this is just a horrendous name sake. Short of taking a day off scaling may be a good idea - hit up the good folks at BrandX for guidance on that.

Cheers, kempie

Comment #69 - Posted by: kempie at June 30, 2009 1:38 AM

Maybe it was the heat (poor excuse, not that hot), maybe I'm spent from yesterday (also poor excuse), maybe it's because I had to clean up the group lesson room and set-up somewhere else after the 4th round(yeah like I didn't need the 3 min rest) or maybe this workout is just HARD!
Heads up to all you newbies, don't be afraid to scale. This workout is heavy and it will put you down.

American swings the first 3 rounds. The rest were a little higher than head height to Russian swing. 32kg is freak'n heavy.

Pull-ups were broken in sets of ten mostly to pace but on the third round I began to slip a little.

49:37 as rx'd

1 7:04 Way to fast
2 9:00
3 11:29
4 13:09 Had to break down PU bar and clean floor for the next lesson. ~3 min

This is definately one of the hardest workouts to finish as rxd. Maybe only linda comes close atleast for me. To all who were thinking an HOUR! scale scale scale. Anything after 30min and you begin to lose the benefit of this workout. I have picked up alot of good training tips and info from Freddie @ CROSSFITONEWORLD he is prescribing time instead of weight the goal is to go hard and intense this workout @ 1.5 pood is still a killer. Scaling sometimes is hard on the ego but i have seen a better improvement this last year of crossfit due to dropping the weight down and finishing faster than stcicking with rxd and taking all day. Just a few suggestions have fun

Danger of Rhabdo if you resist in the negative for such a high rep count. If you do jumping pullups don't resist on the way down at all.

Had to seriously scale down Eva since I am a relative beginner to CF, and she still kicked my butt!!!

30/6'0"/195

5 Rounds: 800M, 20x45lb Dumbell Swings, 15 pullups unassisted(PU's are a serious weakpoint for me)

Time: 31:43, went over 30 but it still hurt and I got everything I could out of this WOD. Can't wait for the next one.

70# kb...looking back, I guess I could have easily added another 2.5# plate to it to make it rx'd....wasn't thinking straight this morning with this one looming over me...

Comment #104 - Posted by: drew-ct m/25/180 at June 30, 2009 6:00 AM

Scaled - uh, like that helped. NOT.

800m run (more like hobble on 4th and 5th round)
35# KBS x 30 - all the way up overhead
5 PU- deadhangs, done as singles. this was the heart breaking portion that made me want to cry. But I figured this all about strength, so rather than do the jumping as per brandX, decided to do the real thing. This was incredibly (insert swear word here)-ing hard as I can only do 1 DEAD HANG AT A TIME.

I really really really wanted to quit after 3rd round. I am nothing if not stubborn. More like a donkey than a pony on 4th and 5th rounds. Completed this due to sheer tenacity and prayer (I'm not kidding) Nana Teresa up in heaven was keeping me company 48:34 That sucked.

Walked mile home from gym feeling quite satisfied with myself.

wow...eva...pretty sure she's like a crossfit tramp - stealing the innocence and purity of honest joe's doing crossfit everywhere.

this was my first eva, and she will not be soon forgotten.

Did as rx'd and had to break swings and PU's into rounds...put a small stint of walk into the front of the 800km's after round 1 and it took over an hour. I wish I had read about scaling and working for intensity and time rather than rx. I couldn't maintain the intensity and speed I'd like because my body was boycotting my brain and it's pretty hard to push when you can't breath.

gotta start taping my hands...sheish.

Does anyone know if it's okay to do the swings up to shoulder/parallel or is proper form overhead? I've heard both ways and would like to know what is crossfit preferred???

"nothing will unite a people like a common enemy"...Eva.

OK, normally I sub rowing for running as I can't run because of a knee missing a meniscus (no concussive movements) but I think rowing might really put a nail in my pullups today. I was thinking what if I subbed a set of tabata squats for the running. 4 minutes per set is a slow 800m run right? What do people think?

I have a sprained wrist, so in keeping with what I learned about Training Through Acute Injury from KStarr, I did the WOD as follows:
3 Rounds for Time-25 mins total of:
800 meters
1 Pood Left arm Kettlebell swings
1 arm lat pull downs (of a sort)

Results? One really sore and tired arm! I'm bankin on ya Kelly! I want to work through this wrist thing and hit my goals!

Putting it off to tomorrow, though. I don't think I can do Eva and then play playoff hockey right afterward... even if it is Beer League Hockey! Instead, I can make up CFT from yesterday and dread the pain and suffering that is in store for me for 24 more hours!

with two arms :) push press 12 reps (only #45 bar), dl 12 reps #95 run 800m - 4 rounds - 24:38 I was very cautious and went light. Surgery shoulder felt fine (left), shoulder jammed ice skating 6 weeks ago felt fine (rt) and foot was great - however my legs felt like STONE running :( Wassup with that? Herm suggested since i cant make it to CF today i do rowing intervals tonight, so that's the plan. Glad to see the FRAT doing so well - keep it up!!!! Big hugs!

#47 Austin, as much as I find it a little annoying to do these kinds of workouts, I tend to have to run out of my flat, back, do the rest of the round then run out for the next round. Especially awkward since my flat's on the top floor. For smaller WODs I sometimes just run the cumilative amount then do the rest afterward. Either way, I'm saving this for tomorrow. Bring on the pain!

This is my 7th CF workout, I thought I was fit before I started CF...

So "Nicole" almost killed me last week, I managed 6 rounds at 47 strict pullups(pullups are definite weak point for me). Kind of at a loss of where to start today, this is scary.

Think I'll go with the puppy scale:
Puppies:
Four rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
1 pood Kettlebell swing, 20 reps
20 Beginner or assisted Pull-ups

Should I try and do 800m and leave the weight at this or just stick with 400m and shoot for lower time?

I've done some research and haven't dug up an official conclusive answer to this:
Is there a right or wrong way to hold a dumbbell for swings when you're subbing for a kettlebell? Does one grip lessen the work and make it not as RX'd, or is all up to the individual? Thanks for your help, anyone who cares to chime in.

Me: 42yo/M/5'10"/175lbs/10.5%BF

Warm Up: Some stretching and pre-workout jitters.

WOD: 3 Rounds of Eva: 24:32

800 Meter Run: Subbed 1000 meter row, damper setting 5 drag factor 124. First row: 1:51 Second Row: 2:04, Third row: 2:14

2 Pood Kettle bell Swings: Used a 70lb dumbell. I broke all of these into 3 sets of ten. I think I rowed slow because I was afraid to pick up the dumbell :-)

Pull Ups: I did strict Pull ups with all kinds of grips. I am noticing some shoulder weakness when I am doing some of the ring and other gymnastic movements. I decided to stop kipping and do all kinds of pull ups in order to get stronger in more ranges of motion.

Ran out of time, next time I'll schedule more time for Eva.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

Big Fran

95# thrusters
Chest touching bar kipping pullups

Shoulders were already fatigued from benching yesterday....thrusters were horribly hard with lots of breaks and each pullup round was broken at the half way mark. I opted for a heavy Fran rather than a fast Fran as I have more chance of shoulder injury throwing a light weight around then I will when my strength is the quickly limiting factor (forces me to stop, rest and work to make each rep with good technique).

So I try not to be one to comment negatively on or question someone's post, but 19:56??? Even with a 1.5 pood KB, that is pretty much impossible.

Let's say you can run all 5 rounds of 800m in 3 min each (which is near superhuman after doing 30x30 pullups and KBs in bewteen rounds), then that leaves you 4:56 to do all 150x150 KB and pullups, which means you did each rep in under 1 second a piece. And this doesn't include any time for transitions between excercises or breaks (so you MUST have gone unbroken all the way through).

If that isn't a typo, and if you actually did all of the rounds and reps, then sign up for the CF Regionals, because you will not only smoke everyone you compete against, you will have no competition when you get to the actual Games. Congratulations in advance!

3xCFWU minus the pull-ups but added 1 muscle-up progression before each round of ring dips

Puppies:
Four rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
1 pood Kettlebell swing, 20 reps
20 Beginner or assisted Pull-ups

I scaled all the way down to puppies to try and finish in 20 minutes, but I didn't quite make it:

Time: 21:20.53

This was with running outside and my upstairs pull-up bar.

I didn't get much sleep last night and I know lack of sleep + crossfit = bad, but I soldiered on anyway. I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight!

Run times were so-so.

400m runs: 1:45.79, 1:49.89, 2:04.47, 2:02.37
KB swings (includes going upstairs): 1:12.10, 1:10.26, 1:13.98, 1:09.15
Pull-ups (includes going downstairs on all but the last round): 1:49.89, 2:18.93, 2:22.13, 2:13.49

So, Pull-ups were the goat today..that surprised me as my kips have been coming along...guess I haven't done them after KB swings in a while.

The KB swings were all unbroken..only had one near mishap when I went past overhead with the KB and it twisted around in my hand, but I was able to get it back without bopping my head or dropping it. :-)

For some reason, I decided that wasn't enough pain, so I did some double under practice and managed to get 4 in a row!!! My previous best was 2 in a row!

In more good news, I finally saved up for some bumpers and a stud-bar for the garage, so hopefully I won't have to do these upstairs/downstairs WODs for much longer.

Anybody have recommendations on an inexepensive squat rack for the garage?

I can't say I enjoyed that one. In fact, I will surely pay for it all week. I fell down some stairs and couple weeks ago and broke a toe and wrenched my knee pretty bad. I probably should have skipped this one. It felt more like an endurance test than a WOD. Ice. Lots of ice.

Comment #238 - Posted by: Tim at June 30, 2009 12:21 PM

I have a question from yesterday.
I'm pretty tall, and I've always had trouble keeping my lower back extended during deadlifts. I found I could handle more weight without stressing my low back quite so much by holding the bar behind my legs. I guess this is a freeweight hack squat rather than a deadlift, but the body motion is pretty similar. Now, I'm trying to figure out - is it better to stick with strict crossfit exercises/forms and bring your body up to speed, or is there a recognition that certain exercises might be better than others for an individual because of differences in body mechanics? hack squat vs. deadlift?

Comment #239 - Posted by: bob at June 30, 2009 12:22 PM

so I have had a weird trap/shoulder/tri/elbow thingy going on so have had to take it easy the past three weeks. I am just getting back into it and still have to modify just about everything that has to do with shoulders! I did do this one today and boy was I happy it was modified. Kettlebells are always measured in poods for some reason. Easier than saying 32.7610kg or 72.2256lb. We could always say 96.3007 librae (Roman pounds), just to confuse the hell out of everyone, but I gotta say I prefer the pood, even if it does remind me childishly of the restroom.

told my friends that I never had to fight my mind as much as I did on this workout. I kept looking for a way out.

BTW, 2 pood is a ton of weight for this. Not necessarily during the swings, but when you go to do pullups...yikes, you are already shot.

I've been cross-fitting for about 5 months. I'm doing Helen for the first time today - after I get my form better with the KB swings I will surely tackle this one. I have a feeling this is going to the last on the list of the girl workouts to complete.

I warmed up with the Burgener Warm-Up for three rounds to practice my snatch form as well as my flexibility in the overhead squat.

Man, talk about a workout! I did four rounds at 40:34, However, I had to sub for 1.5 pood as I didn't have a 2 pood kettlebell.

Happy Tuesday and I do not like Eva - Evil Eva!
had to run on treadmill, but made sure I always went the distance (added 5/10 just to be sure - don't want to cheat myself) - swung a 44 lb. kettlebell - used a blue band on pull ups to try to save my hands. This one was TOUGH!@! But I completed it (goal 1) and got under 45 min (goal 2) - I so need to work on the mental progression when things get tough, I still want to fold. Happy I didn't. :) Great job everyone. Thanks Coach!

1 round. then knee/hamstrng/glute started to hurt.

Any ideas for this injury???

About three weeks ago, my hamsting started to hurt something fierce. I am thinking i pulled it while doing overhead squats...although there was no sudden pain while working out, but over next few days the pain became very intense. Since then the pain has slowly lessened. But it has hurt for a long time, longer then any injury i have ever had. I took a full week off to rest and have been slowly working back into main site workouts over past week. I also walk my dog about 3 miles each morning. I am limping far less. However, the back outside part of my left knee and to a lesser extent my left glute are painful. Any ideas on how to rehab this. I want it to go away and not be some lingering injury.

Thanks.

I work at a globogym and continually have to mop the floors of sweat and mirrors of spit following my WOD. Will post results in a few hours. I don't think I have ever feared a WOD more then this one.

Time 46.47

This was HELL, wanted to stop playing after the first round and go home and wash my hair. Had to talk myself into ever round, even had to phone my mum during it to say that I would be late getting the kids as it was taking soooooo longggg.

Only used 16kg, and lightest band for Pull ups.

No gym for me for a couple of weeks, away on holiday, hope to take my bar and plates with me. More strange looks. (Think of all the extra training you will get done Pedro with no one gabbing, once budgie boy goes. You know I'm the quiet one anyway.)

Had a laugh the other day when my son, who has broken is arm (on first day of the school holidays) asked for a cuddle (hug), I could only give him a side cuddle as his cast is in the way. Thought of s'more and all his different types of hugs.

Good Fun

Agree with previous post, I was slower in the second and third rounds not thinking I'd have anything left for 4 and 5. Actually had stronger and faster pullups in less rounds in 4/5. The running must have slowed a bit, but I didn't track lap time.

Loved it.

Modifcations: Used 16 kg for KB swing x 20 reps, assisted pullups with only 10 reps:

5 sets: 40:15

1- 800 meters (2:59), 20 x KB Swing, 10 pullups
2- 800 meteres (3:03), 20 x KB, 10 pullups (5 assisted)
3- 800 meters (3:04), 20 x KB, 10 pullups (6 assisted)
4- 800 meters (3:06), 20 x KB, 10 pullups (7 assisted)
5- 800 meters (3:11), 20 x KB, 10 pullups (9 assisted)

I'm a strong runner, could have done 5 more 800's! That said, really need to work on my strength and still 10 lbs overweight.

Kudos to the few who did all 5 rounds and even the fewer who did it as prescribed (which by the way, please don't say "as rx'd" if you're gonna follow it up with "except subbed this or that")

After reading some of the early comments we decided to scale down the WOD in favor of keeping the intensity high and target a 30-minute finish time. We remember doing WODs that have taken an hour to finish.

We kinda thought about doing the 5 rounds, but as we went to the gym, our base took incoming mortars, so it delayed our start time. Well that just gave us the justification we needed to keep it scaled down to 3 rounds. But I think that scaling also helped us hit that mental wall, thinking that we might be overdoing it. On the up side, at least we know next time if we can go harder and heavier.

"Eva" is no joke, but I feel like weak sauce for scaling it down even more mid-WOD because I hit that mental wall after round 2.
Round 1: 800 m run on treadmill speed 8.0, 55 lb dumbell swings all 30, 10+5+5 pull ups.
Round 2: 800 m run speed 8.0 (hurting for air), 45 lb dumbell swings all 30, 10+10 pull ups
Round 3: 800 m run/walk speeds 7.0 to 4.0 and back up to 7.0 (5 min) (started seeing gray), 45 lb dumbell swings 25+5, 10+10 pull ups.

Total 31 minutes. had to rest a lot between exercises. Part of it was a mental wall, other part was not eating well enough throughout the day.

Scaled this one: 50# dumbbell, 440 yds, 3 rounds. Stopwatch, we don't need to stinkin' stopwatch. After a late night CFT and several days of post-workout dizziness, it was time to let Eva eat most of the apple herself.

Ouch! 37:00, ~1/2 mile run (as measured by bike), 15 swings (2 x 25# db), 15 pullups in 90F VA heat.

Glad I read the posts and scaled accordingly.

Without a kb, does it matter if one swings a single dumbbell or a pair? I opted for the pair of 25# since the only other option would be a single 40# (only choices here at www.garage.gym)

Also, they must be "magic" dumbbells - seemed to get about 5# heavier each round.

SERIOUSLY considered not doing this as I completed my first run. This was my first go with EVA
Runs were outside in the heat, and had to go up and down from 3rd floor weight room.
Tried a 70-lb. DB for the swings - yeah, not so much.
Used a 65-lb. DB with hands wrapped around a rag and interlocked on the handle ( DB essentially vertical with me holding in the middle.) Swings were all overhead, but elbows were bent a little.
Pullups were all kipping (so glad I can do this now)
TIME: right at or just under an hour.

Did I mention I despise this WOD?

I can't believe nobody has commented on that video! Everybody watch it... this is a great testimonial of how CrossFit (and one of CrossFit's elite athletes) took a high-ranked collegiate wrestling team and got them all the way to the top.

Way to represent, Ricky! (BTW, it's Ricky Frausto, not Fausto)

Eva is definitely the nastiest CrossFit girl ever. My lower back has been bothering me for the past month and I did not want to aggravate it with too much running. So I did 1000 m rows for rounds 1, 3 & 5 and 880 yard runs for rounds 2 & 4. The rows took the same amount of time as the runs (4-5 minutes) but made the KB swings and pull ups a bit harder. So I guess that - all things considered - I had a lower impact yet slightly more intense workout than prescribed.

That said, here's how things went:
Row 1000m (R1 R3 R5)/Run 880 yards (R2 R4), 4:13/4:37/5:14/4:53/5:19
Kettlebell Swing, 2 pood, 30 reps, 1:29/2:19/2:27/2:50/2:09
Pull Ups, Kipping, 30 reps, 2:02/2:53/3:32/3:29/2:20
Total 49:54

The first round of KB swings was broken 15-15; remaining rounds were broken 10-10-10. The first round of pull ups was broken 15-10-5; remaining rounds were broken 10-7-5-4-4.

Worked out alone again today - Mama and my daughter are still in the mountains and my son is still at Navy training in Virginia. On Friday we'll be able train together.

Started to get a little spooked after reading all the comments. Almost decided to scale, and maybe should have, but our drought was randomly broken today and the weather was relatively cool after a string of 100+ degree days, so I took this as a sign of encouragement from nature.

First time doing Eva. Went as close to RX'd as my equipment will safely allow, which means I used a 65 lb dumbell for the swings.

55:52

At the end of round 1 it was plainly obvious that 10 min rounds was not going to happen, so my goal became sub-1 hour.

Just got back from taking part in the biggest parade the Canadian Navy has done in 30 years. 500 of us were on parade for the Consecration and Presentation of the Queen's Color to Maritime command in Halifax NS. One solid month of drill 8 hrs a day paid of real well.

Today was my 2nd night back in CrossFit after 2 weeks more or less off, and Eva had to come up...

Measured 800 m (400 m there and back) on google maps.

It was fun weaving through the busy parking lot and people cheering me on as I was running by as they were screaming: "RUN FASTER!!!"

I bought myself an actual stopwatch this time around instead of using my phone stopwatch that I would accidentally stop all the time. It was useful hanging around my neck and keep me hands-free. It even has this nifty plastic whistle connected to it! :) Oh the things that keep me amused!

My old CF gym coach forced me to believe that KB swings were my specialty since we would do them ALL THE TIME!!!

"Y'all know who......KEEPIN IT RUSSIAN!!!"

As RX'd (except for the 75lb DB for the KB swing):

46:55

It was funny. The running felt harder in the early rounds then the later rounds. My weakness was the pull-ups but I made it through!

My 400m started fast and got progressively slower (no surprise there). I used a 35# dumbell for my swings. Need to look at video to see how strict a posture is supposed to be maintained (I was using my body to help the swing on the last two sets). Pull ups started out strict, then went to calf assisted, then I moved to the machine and used 60# for half a set and then 90# for the second half and final set. Getting better, but still would like to be stronger, faster, leaner.

Crossfit newbie here with a few questions. On a WOD like this can the pullups be done Kipping style or should they be strict? Also, I can get about 10 to 15 continuous pullups. So is it better to break the target of say 30 pullups into 2 sets of 15, or do 30 assisted pullups? Txs.

Just got my hands and shoulder feeling better so this was a no-go for me. Did a workout with Kimberly choosing two strengths and a neutral exercise: double unders (me) and HSPU (kim) and added full snatches:

For time:
50 double unders
15 HSPU
15 Snatch, 75#/55#
40 DU
12 HSPU
12 Snatch
30 DU
9 HSPU
9 Snatch
20 DU
6 HSPU
6 Snatch
10 DU
3 HSUP
3 Snatch

Time: 17:33

Was an awesome WOD. Fun b/c I'd get ahead on the DUs. Kim would pass me on the HSPU and we'd be nearly tied in the snatch. However, she soundly beat me by about a minute in the end!
