Crossfitters,

Today we released a new feature on Noscrolls: SMS text message support. Have you ever forgotten to write down your workout results before you left the gym? Or you wrote it down, but you forgot to take the piece of paper with you? Now, you can save your workout results on Noscrolls by simply sending a text message. Sound interesting?

Go to noscrolls.com to sign up for an account. Then go to blog.noscrolls.com for instructions on how to set up text messaging.

Did 20 rounds of cindy last time, up from 15+ the previous time, only to have two other trainers beat me by a round plus. Try to beat them? Not this time, I'm tackling Mary for the first time, which ought to go great with the double double I'm about to consume!

The Coach B and Rip videos are awesome. I love them.

I enjoy the workout videos as well, but I see people training all day! I'm not complaining even a little bit - it never ever gets old.

I just really appreciate all the information from the experts. The videos help with my training and make me a better trainer.

HAHHAHHAA! Oh my gosh that's perfect! Thanks for pointing that out.

Comment #9 - Posted by: AllisonNYC at June 8, 2009 5:42 PM

20 last time on Cindy...not sure if I am going after Mary or try to beat my number of rounds from last time.

Just one more example of why the military needs to get on board with building cammie trousers that have a gusseted crotch. WHY are we always 10-20 years behind the 'outdoor' crowd?

Busted seams were the bane of this Marine's existence.

Does the Coast Guard get any marketing/product placement money for keeping the "Whaler" and "Evinrude" names on their equipment ?

Comment #15 - Posted by: JW-XFOB at June 8, 2009 6:01 PM

Love this type of WOD because I can do it at home, in the back yard. For others who work out at home, alone, what are some of the ways you keep track of the number of rounds completed? I've tried chalk, rocks, etc., but cant seem to settle on a method that works consistenty, and keeping track in my head just never seems to work.

Comment #16 - Posted by: qlyrata at June 8, 2009 6:02 PM

I'd love to play along if that's ok with you guys. Since I don't have a CF partner, I think this will give me added motivation.

PONY - I may have extra Bruce tix for 10/2 if you are interested, let me know and I'll give you first dibs.

CINDY!!! Still a classic. Last time I set up my rings off the pull up bar and did ring push ups, 10 at a time. Belted out 16 rounds and FELT it the next day. Going for 18 tomorrow !

# 16... I use a watch and simply hit a split/lap after each round- which keeps track of the time it takes to complete each round and I don't have to remember the # of rounds- because the split/lap function also counts the # of rounds completed. (added bonus- I can see how much I slow down as I go!)

Hello Crossfitters,

This is BM2 Jeremy Collis' Pants. Jeremy is WAY to busy to fix my giant hole. He's in the coast guard, which is pretty intense. I mean just yesterday we had to work until 1400, yeah...1400!! I almost hit 1700 traffic, it was awful. Just wanted to let everyone know that's Jeremy is really busy being and hopefully he will find time to get to the seamstress. Enjoy Cindy/Mary, I know Jeremy will.

Balls Out,

Great workout to go to the park or front yard and do. Rather than keep track of rounds...keep track of the stupid looks you get from people who wish they could keep up!

Comment #33 - Posted by: Katie Schmitz at June 8, 2009 6:42 PM

Wow, a new low for crossfit. Now we ridicule the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom? Shame on you people.

Who here has not supported the RRG? It's really quite simple. RRG fails, and crossfit fails.

What is the hold up?

Comment #34 - Posted by: Jack at June 8, 2009 6:44 PM

thx for the confirmation julius. Im not sure if i can do one of them or not. I'm in supreme repose now, so i suppose I'll try to surprise myself tomorrow, otherwise I'll be opting for the Cindy.

Am i correct in thinking that Mary is the harder of the two even if you can do pistols? By harder i mean less rounds would be completed by the same person in the 20 minutes.

John-in-Jersey- dude you're awesome. I already have tix for the 2nd (and now apparently for the show that went on sale today, I have people that work on these things for me LOL) so thank you very much, but I'm set. This means we get to tailgate... wahoo! "I hid in the clouded wrath of the crowd but when they said "Sit down" I stood up...."

FRAT WODS: oh crumbs. I have a terrible feeling in my stomach, similar to a few months ago when I piped up when the boys were yammering about Championship Version of Fight Gone Bad and I had to be all "hey let a girl play too" and threw my hat into the ring to do *5 rounds* of FGB...
that hurt LOL
now its a MONTH of this... sigh... nuthin' like CF peer pressure... Cookie & CynthiaJ!? wha' happened to you two?

Whelp, there's little difference between bravery and stupidity... I'm in! :) After all these years, here I am, still wantin' to be cool and play with my brothers :) BRING IT

And WTF FRAT people. I specifically requested something heavy with low reps. NO METCON. I'm buying a lot of beer. Maybe a couple of lap dances. I'm going to put a deposit down on a keg.

Made up Lynne today, so will be making up 1RM deads tomorrow (did deadlift/burpees WOD on Friday). I love the early posts for planning purposes such as this.

FRAT #26

Thank you for your concern Strong Lil Pony! Yes I messed up both arms on "Erin". I guess my arms were never used to the DB split cleans. I've never done them before. My left arm is back to normal. I can extend both arms normally now but my right arm still isn't at 100% just yet more like 95%. It probably will be back to normal tomorrow.
I messed up my right arm more by trying to extend it too much. It was like a scab that you just can't help but to pick at! :)

Anyways, I'm going to go for "Mary" this time around. I'm getting bored of "Cindy" and I even told myself I would switch it to "Mary" in my last "Cindy" post. I really need to get the practice in with the HSPU. I need to get over this fear of not being able to flip into the wall and having to walk myself up the wall.

If you're going to the CF Games, you're IN! The challenge lasts all of this month and up to the games. The beer is real, and the shame in losing is even greater! I'm in for this coming week, then I'm probably back into the operating room for surgery #2.

FRAT: tomorrow's scoring rules...

1 round of Mary done as Rx'ed trumps Cindy Rx'ed with infinite rounds.

One round of Cindy trumps less than 1 round of Mary.

Mary scaled is 3rd in the order of merit, and Cindy scaled is last.

You have until 9 PM PST (my bedtime) to post scores to this forum.

3-2-1-GO FRAT :)

Well, I guess I will be hearing about my crotch rip for many years to come, both from my friends here in my unit and when I get home to my civilian job. All well, thought it was a cool pic and sent it in. Guess I should look at it better next time.

A fifty is 85 lbs for those who asked. Not bad, but if I lost it, it was going in the drink then my little tear in my pants would be the least of my worries.

Thanks for everyone pointing out my little rip. Guess I will have to hear about it for a few years to come, both from my unit here then when I get home to my civilian job. Thankfully I have a good sense of humor, unfortunately so do my co-workers.

The .50 is 85 lbs. Not bad but if I lost it, it was going in the drink, then my little rip would be the least of my worries.

Comment #136 - Posted by: murph at June 9, 2009 7:08 AM

A little late with the pre-answers but here we go

As many rounds as possible of
5 pull ups
10 push ups
15 squats

So long as you go from full arm extension at the bottom to head over bar at the top it doesn't matter whether you do dead hang kipping pull ups. The Crossfit default is kipping as it will allow you to get more done faster.

Push ups - chest to deck to arms locked out

Squats - these are unweighted or "air" squats

Many people find that their limiting factor coming to Crossfit is pull ups. If everything else is solid then one scaling option is to reduce the number of pull ups per round while leaving everything else as prescribed. For alternate scaling options check out BarndX linked on the Starting page.

Cheers, kempie

I am in need of some help, I just had ACL surgery two weeks ago and am dying for some type of workouts, I have endless resources at the place I workout, but I greatly need some type of workout suggestions. If anyone has any suggestions or helpful tips please email me back. Thanks for reading the post. Also I only have a pDA so an email would be greatly appreciated since its next to impossible to sort all the comments. Thanks again.

Please understand that if you are sued, and your insurance company settles, you _will_ be uninsurable, and the rest of the CF trainers/affil owners will suffer as a result.

+2.0 rounds from previous. Completely gassed after this one. Push-ups and pull-ups were singles at the end, squats were still strong. Still need to work on shoulder stability for strength at the bottom of a pull-up where it tends to want to dislocate some. Might have to go back to a band assist and train the ROM more.

I am not yet enough man for Mary. One day soon though.

this is a round and 5 hspu's under my first attempt. But considering the insane amount of DOMS i have in my lower half and fending off a head cold I'll take it. I'm a new crossfitter and just have a couple questions... I was under the impression that i was in pretty decent shape (until i started looking at what everyone is posting for these workouts). I'm aware that there are some real animals on here but i feel like i'm missing something... when a workout like lynne says "pullups" in it does that mean you're allowed to kip or do you do them strict?

Cindy, scaled down to jumping pull-ups, bar set to 1" below wrist upon highest reach, chest to bar. Push-ups and BW Squats were as Rx'ed.

Question:

Were these kipping pullups or strict?
Or was it whatever you needed to do to get your chin over the bar? I used my kipping today. Probably would have died if I tried to keep em strict.

I have a question for some of the more experienced CrossFitters. I'm new at this and just beginning my second week. I think I'm doing everything as prescribed on the WODs based on what I've seen in the demos. Just so I understand, all of the exercises, unless otherwise specified, call for full range of motion, correct? Any feedback would be most welcome.

Comment #237 - Posted by: B Bowen at June 9, 2009 11:05 AM

Cindy being 5 pulls, 10 push, 15 squat, that's 30 movements per round, so to do 40 rounds you need to average exactly 1 move every single second for the whole 20 minutes.
Jacinto #178 you should post a video so we can all crap ourselves.

I did 14 rounds of Cindy. This is all new to me so i set PRs every workout. Yeah baby!

Bar environment wouldn't allow me to kip. I barely know how anyway. It became difficult to get the 5 pulls all at once toward the end. (and the 10 pushes).

did 4 rds of strict pullups, the last 7 were single kips, because I'm sick of NOT getting them...absolutely flew over the bar, but not enough room beneath to get a good swing going.

all pushups and squats unbroken, and the squats were WAY deeper and stronger than last time.

First time doing Mary because I finally learned the HSPU form.

1-leg squats held me up, form/balance was not too good...I like to focus on the exercises that I am not good at, so I'll tackle those soon.

It's my first day of Crossfit, and I gave Cindy a try. I really enjoyed it, it was a workout, and it made me realize how out of shape I am. I only got through ten rounds.

I was wondering, I can normally do about 10 chin-ups. But when I got into the third round of this exercise, I felt I had to cheat a bit to get all five I needed, I used my legs more than I should have. I was wondering if that's okay, or if I should try an alternative to the pull ups next time.

So, I must have blown a capillary or two on the thruster/double under work out last cycle; ever since then I have been getting the most intense migraine caliber headaches once I begin to do strenuous work. My buddy calls them "exertion headaches." So, I did a little research and they are legit, but the most efficient way Web M.D. says to take care of them is to lower the intensity of your workout.

Well, that just simply wont do.

I have found other recommendations, such as drink lots of water (uh huh...) and take Ibuprofen before a work out. The former is a given, and I have not tried that latter, so I was hoping someone out there in the virtual world of CrossFit might be able to offer up some sort of remedy for me!

Oh, and no Cindy for me today. Next time.

Hallo!
well, though that was really hard to achieve, I´ve been crossfitting for almost 2 years and maybe it was because I am really short and small framed :)(and I love this kind of WOD) next time I will pay more attention to the form of the exercises, and try to find a more standard hanging bar...
Do there is a crossfit standard measure for the height of the bar?

Greetings!

Did 16 rounds of "Cindy" altered last night...10 pull-ups; 20 push-ups; 30 squats in 20 minutes. GREAT WORKOUT!

Now I'm gonna do "Mary" and probably do maybe 11 or 12 rounds in 20 minutes. It's harder!

Warm-up: 800m jog; 17 ROM exercises; CFWU (minus pull-ups & dips) 2x15.

Mary as Rx: 8 rnds + 5 HSPU + 10 OLS + 6 PU.

Off PR by 3 rnds. Head-to-floor HSPU; strict PU.

Going into this WOD, I figured my legs would be the limiting factor due to soreness from the last cycle. Instead, it was a near debilitating headache that came-on after my very first pull-up. The pain was so bad, I had to stop several times just to hold my head. It decreased in intensity as the WOD went on, but spiked a bit each time I got on the pull-up bar. Even as I type, the headache is lingering. I also have a bit of nausea.

i actually had someone interrupt my workout today because she thought i was going to hurt myself! seriously, people?! sorry, but crossfitters do not ride on the elliptical reading magazines!!! [and i was clearly not going to hurt myself. people arent used to "extreme workouts" (and it was only a body weight WOD! lol) sweat a little, thats what i say!]

anyways,

#471 Herm, I'm just in it for fun. I do crossfit out of my garage, and other than my best friend Spanky who lives half the continent away from me, I don't have any one to compete with. In the four years I've been crossfitting I've never enjoyed reading the posts as much as I do when you guys post. I love the camaraderie and support you have developed and would love to come to the games to meet you all. Unfortunately, I have a family cruise for my parents 50th anniversary during that time.

Cindy is my girl, I'm trying to work back to my PR of 32+ but unfortunately, as you too have experienced, my shoulders and knees are fighting me. The heavy stuff will definitely put me in my place, along with the altitude in Denver, and I'm sure a large package from the Rocky Mountains will be forth coming. At the least, I'll send a bottle of Capt Morgan for Fit Mom when she kicks butt.

The censoring of that dude's crotch was pretty funny. I take it he was going commando?

Comment #522 - Posted by: Hoff at June 10, 2009 2:16 AM

Started with a 1 mile run in vibrams. I have been woking on my running form a lot. It is starting to really come together. My pace was about 8:40. I need to start pushing my pace on my runs and doing some speed work.
My warm up was shoulder work, 15 oly skills warmups, and kipping work. As my shoulder is getting stonger the kips are coming easier, but they are still not there.

Mary 10 rounds + 5 chin ups.
100 lower ab crunches.
I lost count and might have done as many as 13. My pace was much steadier than last time but my overall speed was not much better. All of the exercises except for the last few sets of squats were unbroken (those just to stop from puking). I went with chin ups this time because I have been doing a lot of pull ups and I wanted to hit my biceps and back from a different angle. They felt really good. I discovered that I can kip pretty well with chin ups and with a few days of practice I think that I will have my chin up kip down pat. I hope that will help me to develop my pull up kip. I also used military (shoulder width) push ups to hit my triceps a little harder. Next time I want to focus on giving myself a set time for rest between sets and pushing hard the whole time. Going by feel allows me to get lazy. I will probably use 15 or 20 seconds.

Later on in the day I went back to the gym and did a small warm up followed by presses and chinups.
95x5, 115x5, 135x3, 135x3, 135x4, 135x3 superset w\ chin ups x 10.
Finished with 50 presses on the bar.
My strength and shoulder felt good, and the chin up actually helped my elbow soreness.

11 rounds + 5 assisted pullups

first 8 rds as rx'd, after that a little assistance towards the end of each round of pullups; rest 30-45 sec. between rounds; will probably rest less and go harder next time even if that means more assistance on pullups, which for me are the weak link here

lightest band for Pull-ups
ball for half of the Push-ups

12 rounds + 5 Pull-ups

Also did day 2, week 3 Russian Shoulder Press, day 1, week 2 Russian Bench Press and day 15 Burpee challange.

Was going to say the gym was quiet but Tommy was there, enough said!!! Went to the gym on Monday full of good intentions of catching up on missed wods. Not a chance, only managed R s/p, R b/p and burpees. Think the usual suspects had been missing and Tommy had no-one to talk to, he made up for it on Monday.

Pony how are your numbers? Are they improving doing SS and are you missing the wods?

Good Fun

Scaled to rounds of 4 pullups/9 pushups/12 air squats over 20 minutes. Pullups were jumping, pushups on the knees and regular squats.

Two days of Crossfit workouts had her complaining that she deserved one of the rest days that I'd mentioned at some point. Too bad she forgot how I'd also mentioned that the schedule is 3 on, 1 off...It's going to be a fun summer.

Me: 42yo/M/5'10"/175lbs/11%BF

Warm Up: 1/2 mile run to the gym.

WOD: Cindy, 13 rounds + 5 Pull Ups and 1 Push Up

Pull Ups: all sets unbroken. clavicle to the bar and full extension at the bottom. Grip was difficult.

Push Ups: All reps chest to deck, head up, elbows in close to the body. first 6 sets or so unbroken and then 7-3 or 6-2-2 for the rest. These were the hardest.

Squats: All Sets un-broken. @ss to ankles on all reps with a six inch jump at the top. These were the easiest.

Cool Down: 1/2 mile run to the casa.

Wow, my best Cindy was 21 rounds. I have been slacking off for the last four months and it really shows on METCONS. I need be cool and not try to slowly get back into Crossfit and Paleo/Zone. What a rude awakening.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

I was actually warming up for the other WOD with the 115# hang cleans and when I went to check out the rings, they were sooo high I would have had to muscle up to get up to do the dips every round and that would have killed me in the later rounds... couldn't find the lower rings to attach to the upper rings and so I did the Mary WOD that I had missed. Not too bad.. actually this time and the last time, the pullups (for the first time) were what took me more time... I could bang out the HSPUs and the pistols pretty fast but after the 6th round, I had to break up the pullups a little and whenever you break up rounds/ sets it really increases your time.

As Rx'ed, 13 rounds, plus 2 pull ups.

numbers keep going down, last time was 14 rounds and change. I have eating a strict zone for over a week. Maybe it's because I ate breakfast at 7, and worked out at 11? or maybe it's time to increase my fat blocks? I'm currently at 20 protein, 14 carbs, and 38 fat (skinning the zone, ala Robb Wolf). Had by body fat percentage checked today with calipers, 13% (my goal has been ten). I know it is usually said that once CF athletes fall under 10% BF, it's time to increase the fat, but I feel like I bonked today, so maybe I should start now? I think I will go to 3X fat, and see how I feel there. May also shave off a couple of carb blocks, subbing 3 fat blocks for each one.

Let us see where this goes.

5 HSPU - not as r/x - legs up the wall, at an angle of probably 330 degrees
10 alternating one legged squats from a bench
21 sit ups

did 7 sets plus 5 HSPU and 10 One legged squats

It didn't feel liek a Girl WOD when I was doing it - now I know why

Afterwards, did 3 sets of 10 kips, 3 sets of 10 dips and 1 sey of 15 GHD sit ups

I really need to train at a CF facility to avoid these kind of stuff ups

10 x OHS with 45#
5 x Full Range HSPU
10 x Back extensions on bench
10 x Sit-ups on bench
20 second L-Sit
10 x Pull-ups

WOD as Rx'd (Cindy):

27 rounds

Screwed up. I have put on a little weight, didn't sleep last night, dehydrated from patrols today, so just wanted to tie previous PR. Counted in my head on the way to the gym, do one round every 45 seconds and you'll get it. Didn't realize until I was at 19 minutes that I was wrong. Crap. I think I could have gotten a new PR today too. 29 rounds, maybe. Hope I don't forget for next time.
