Been waiting for this!! YESSSS!?
You know you are hitting refresh too often when you can post this high up on the list. Anxious...yes.
Oh great time to get my @$$ whipped!!
This will be a BLAST to do at Globo Gym tomorrow!
A great win over Kansas last night, a Spartan on the main page today, let's make it three in a row with by knocking out Louisville tomorrow!
Go green, go white!
pain coming to everyone, good pain !this one never gets easier, luv it though.
Love yo fight and uf gonne bad even better =)
Big hugs everybody you ladies and gentelmen are the best
The "rowerzord" is too far so i think we will sub the rows for burpees what do you guys think of that?
Ok since this has to be done at a Globo the C2 is far away (50m plus) from the room with all the weights, and the place to do wallballs up even father away. Are there any suggestions on how to modify this to make it work?
Oh man haha, I was not expecting this but sweet!
On a more important note, the Journal video is quite possibly one of the most inspirational videos i've ever seen or heard. It's FREE, so there is no reason not to watch it in it's entirety. I've followed the other videos with Kyle in them and have always thought he was amazing, but for some reason this one truly hit home. Check it out
Oh my god I'm scared. I only did this once, it took me 8 minutes to get up the courage to hit the start button on my watch.....
Oh all right! Tomorrow AM I will face down this bad boy and put him in his place. The curb!
GIDDY-UP!
@s'more
Do you mean sub burpees for rows? I was wondering what I should do with the row, we don't have a machine and there's already SDHP in the WOD. Anybody else with thoughts?
Hi All,
Just wanted Folks to know that waaay up in Northern New Brunswick Canada, in a little City called Bathurst, Janine Daigle opened up CrossFit Bathurst!! Way to Go Janine...had our first class today and it was great!! Congrats!!
Check it out!.... 3-2-1 GO!!

Outragous, I actually did this today on the rest day!
M/6'0"/175

R2: 100
R3: 98
320 total, which is a PR....need to get better on the SDHP
Nova is in the Final Four!!
#10 ben kershner haha!! Yeah that's what i mean feeding my baby and post is a little bit dificult but carlox my older brother told me that we WILL use our "rowerzord"
Burpees is usually the sub I use for rows.
#17??
How can you sub burpees for rows? I feel like I only get 11-12 calories in the 1min, when I could get wayyyy more burpees??? Maybe my rowing machine is of?
The concept 2 rowers have really cool little wheels so you can pick em up and drive them around, im sure your globo gym wouldnt mind you taking one of their concept 2 rowers into the other room, especially considering they would want you to get the best work out possible...... ;-)
UGH, Really despise this workout immensely but will do it coz thats what you do.
Hi to all the regulars - s'more, Herm, Eric, Bird, Pony, FM, FMM, jakers, PoB, fat tony, TonyChiro, Tommy and everyone else.
Less than a week to go till the Australiasian Qualifiers at CFX. Cant wait to get down there and soak up the intensity.
I sub burpees a lot too. Mostly due to set up at the gym, but I love them ;)
Saturday "Clean Front Squat Double Jerk Grace"

Loved this workout! Was supposed to be PC but I did a reg clean. Been doing a little work with 1-arm OHS. Love them. Going on vacation soon (yay!) and gym has DB's so been thinking of some fun DB workouts. Maybe turkish get up, 1 arm-DL, 1 arm snatch, 1- arm OHS mix up. Will keep me busy on the plane thinking of some workouts ;)
Have a good night all and get some good rest! :)
Erin
1-armed FGB for me:
1-arm 12# WallBall, 8 ft. target
1-arm KB SDLHP
20" Box Step-ups (jumping hurts my shoulder)
1-arm 40# Push Press
1-arm row for calories
:)
Trying to make all this clear...
So each exercise is a minute long as many points as you can get in that minute, and once you finish the rows you rest 1 minute then repeat the cycle one more time, at which point you are done?
Also.. rowing for calories is done on a rowing mchine, right?
Thanks :)
Awesome. My first FGB since starting CrossFit. Maybe by the time I do it my arms/chest will have recovered from those god awful ring dips.
Any suggestions for subbing the rows, since SDHPs are already in the program?
hi do all you guys do the crossfit warmup?
im new and thinking i should cause at the moment im just rowing for 10minutes.
want to know what you experienced people do?
thanks
Mike T- I usually do the CF warm up before the workouts. Sometimes I mix it up and add in things that I need to work on, do the bergener (spelling?) warm up, etc.
Mike T - definitely. depends on what the workout is but normally a mix of pullup, pushup, situp, squat for metcon based stuff. For strength workouts, Burgener and then light practice on the particular exercise - high reps.
Will row for a couple of minutes today as well due to FGB being the WOD
For row subs, I have seen jumping pullups mentioned previously as being a good substitute, which is what I'm going to try. Obviously most will be able to do more than 11-12 in a min if that's the average cals burned in a minute on the C2, but you'll just have to note that. As most of your future FGB's will probably see you in the same boat, you'll be comparing apples to apples anyway.
#23 Mike,
Yes, you got it. Execute each of the 5 exercises. Each exercise scores separately. At the completion of the row (for calories)rest 1 minute, then repeat the 5 exercise/rest cycle 2 more times.
Remember its a running clock during the 5 exercises so transition is crucial. In this WOD it is helpful to have a partner who is not working out. As you complete the wallball yell out your score for your partner to write down as you are transitioning and begining the Sumo Deadlift Hi Pulls, etc. If you don't have a partner, have a pre-formatted piece of paper that you can write down the score for each exercise and then immediately begin the next excercise. Hope this helps.
Thanks to Herm I have decided to hit up the Championship version! Feel free to join in on the beautiful event of 5 rounds rather than 3 :)
#23 Mike
Yes it sounds like you have the idea down pat. In your description though you only listed 2 rounds. Make sure you do 3! (unless you are scaling down to 2 rounds for your own reasons). Tear it up!
Thanks for the repsonse, much clearer.
Just to make sure.. its 3 total times thru the group? (i.e 3 total sets of wallballs, sumos, etc..)
Sorry if im clggin the board, Thanks
Eric, I love you like a crazy nephew! No holding back on the first 3 just because you have 2 more, okay?
Eric & Herm - you can have your 5 rounds this time around. Still dreading my 3 round version
Bird, really, 1 week? Dang. I wish I could witness the intensity firsthand! Good luck to all you Aussies!
Herm-
Oh I would never think it! I'm going to go the best i can for the first 3 as if I were going to finish there, and then see what I can do for the additional 2 for fun haha. Did I just say fun????
.....
Yes, yes i did.
OOPS I meant rookie, not BIRD.
BTW Bird, thanks for the shot out yesterday :)
I see, Eric, that way you can have an Rx'ed score after 3, right? You're not so crazy after all :)
Does the order matter for FGB? or would it be acceptable to tweak it so that it is easier to do at a GLOBO gym?
First FGB, excited though!!
You got it Herm haha. There is some method to my (actually your) madness. I've only done FGB once, but never Champ style. So this'll be sort of a 2-for-1 kinda deal. And it shall be glorious! No pacing just straight up physical annihilation!
I love when people go insane feel more in-family love the idea of a 5 rounds fight gonne bad great idea i'm in dude Eric keep that insanaty brother 3-2-1 PAIN!!!!!
wonder how I'm gonna scale it for CFSB. this workout is a total of 15 min. and my metcon for tomorrow has a maximum of 15 min. shux
I checked the substitutions on FAQ. Does anyone have any ideas for a sub for box jumps? I've got foot trouble comming on. May be Plantar Faciitis.......
FWIW - my friends and I don't have a rower in our little garage gym and we've found that substituting 3 KB swings per calorie is usually a pretty accurate conversion (through trial and error). I'm not sure if it elicits the same response in the body as rowing, but it works! :)
this will be my first FGB...I'm a little scared...is that wrong?
Whats the standard setting for the c2???

Very inspiring video. Thank you.
No FGB for me til Monday :) YAY! Another day to psych myself out! Tonight's WOD - 10 rounds, 250m rows, 1-minute rests
1- 1:01, 2-:58 3-:57, 4-:59, 5:58. 6-:58,7-:59, 8-:58, 9-:58, 10-:58
will J - won't lie. it is a very tough workout if you go as hard as you can. just remember you get that full minute rest at the end of each round
Wow, this workout sounds intense. First FGB for me since starting crossfit, and after a month and a half, i think I'll be able to do alright. Still not quite up the the par I want to be, but considering how far I've come, crossfit's doing me good.
played bball for 6 hours today. second time I'll miss fgb. must do it next time.....
I had a feeling we'd see this today.
I am scared

i love this WOD unforunately they dont have rowers over here. i hope i have a chance to hit this today. otherwise ill have to double it in somewhere this week.
Sweet! did this last week with a pathetic score. Time to redeem myself!
Sub's for rowing, I typically use 1.5 pood KB swings since SDHP's are in the workout already. Does the job quite nicely.

Can't honestly say that I did FGB, since I dropped box jumps, subbed 40lb plate thrusters for wallball, and swapped jumprope for rows, but it still was rough. Ack! So out of shape! But still trying, which counts.

Everyone needs to watch the video that was posted. You need to get the journal and watch it. Right now. If, after viewing, you're not reevaluating where you are at in your life, and where you are going, then something is wrong with you.
Mr. Maynard is giving every single one of us a lesson in life, hope, and living your dream that we can never learn from any book, or most likely learn from our own trial and error. As a former 11B1P 25ID, I salute Kyle, and all the others that are reaching beyond boundaries, adapting and overcoming the limitations in their own lives that we could never imagine reaching beyond in our own.
This video is amazing and their testimonies are amazing. Their hope, faith and fortitude are amazing. And I hope that I can one day demand from myself the same type of strength that we see from everyone at the Warrior Transition Center, and all the great people I met at my trip to Walter Reed. God bless you all.

#17- Thanks for the great idea about C2's having wheels....too bad that would never happen. When I said Globo gym what I really mean was "Globo style". Its actually a college gym and unless you are a frat boy doing curls in front of the mirror or a sorostitute pedaling an elliptical they could care less about how "fit" you are. This is the same gym that has a cow if the med balls (heaviest 15lbs I may add) are more than 15 ft from the rack. Good idea, but not happening. I'll sub burpees

Talk about pulling at your heart's strings, Kyle! Having had the honor of going to high school and wrestling at the same time in the same county as Kyle, I can honestly say I've witnessed few (if any) individual efforts as motivating and awe inspiring as Kyle performance on the wrestling mat. I wrestled more for the individual perseverance necessary to meet/exceed the physical demands of the sport than the sport itself, and Kyle was the epitome of that. You couldn't help but be drawn away from your own school's mat to watch Kyle's match. It's great to see him continuing the cycle of meeting and raising his boundaries and touching countless people's lives in the process.

Sunday musings...
1) Mind-bend. Have you seen what you can do with a digital photo after the fact? Whoa. Lovely Daughter and friends do stuff that make the Pixar people look like amateurs.
2) Optimist. "The best way to predict the future is to create it."
I like that very much.
3) Phone etiquette. The most powerful product in the social history of man might be the cell phone. Think about it. Totally connected at all times, with ever-expanding connectivity tools. The cell phone has brought about a true paradigm shift in First World human communication. It is the ultimate expression of the ability to reach farther and farther to contact and connect.
And therein lies the problem. It is that most remote connection that has overwhelmed connecting.
For those of you over that age of 35 or so, remember what the phone was like in your youth? It didn't ring too very much, did it? And each ring was important because, well, it was. No trivial phone calls from relatives or marketing calls or pollsters calling to query about the mundane. If you were home and the phone rang you jumped for it, an instinct that became a part of the Western social DNA.
How about the caller? What was their experience like? No call-waiting to ensure that each call would be answered. No answering machines or voicemail. No "for English press 1." You got busy signals! If the phone kept ringing you didn't have to wonder if someone saw your number on caller ID and said "no way", you knew they weren't home (or they were on the can--no one had phones in the bathroom then!)
Now? Well, There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. That unlimited ability to connect at any time has become an OBLIGATION to be connected. Right NOW. Always. Cell phone as priority 1. You've seen it; heck, you've DONE it. You're having a conversation with someone, right there in front of you, someone you can literally reach out and touch--you know, with your hand. Their cell phone rings or buzzes or sings and without any conscious thought out comes the phone and they answer it. Or they tap out a text. Right in front of you, mid-sentence. Heck, in the middle of a hug you can feel them reaching for it. Even call-waiting...as much as my Dad bemoans the loss of the courtesies of a bygone era he still clicks me out, puts me on hold because "someone's on the other line!"
I propose that there is a Fourth Law of Thermodynamics: SPACE is conserved. The space that has been removed between each end of a cellphone/technology-driven connection is not destroyed, it is simply placed between the two physical bodies in the interrupted personal connection. The phone is the elephant in the room, the elephant right between two people close enough to shake hands.
So today I will become the tamer of the elephant. I'll start with my own because I am just as guilty as most others. I'll help those in my charge (the bingo progeny) by pointing out the choices that they are making, the message they are sending when they choose the elephant over that someone right there. I'll continue to make people uncomfortable in the office when they answer the elephant during an exam. Heck, I'll probably tease them when they twitch, that visible effort necessary to stop themselves--I think of it as petting the elephant when you can't talk to it.
Heck, I might start leaving my elephant behind. Just thinking about it I feel a little lighter.
I'll see you next week...

First time doing FGB and I loved it! Due to gym equipment restrictions and my size I subbed out as follows:
Thrusters with DBS = 20 lbs
SUMO Deadlifts - 35 LBS
Box Jumps - as rxed
Push Press - 35 lbs
Bent Over Rows with 20 lbs DBs
Didn't have a point counter and was too mentally confused to do it myself. But I gave it my best effort. I will up the Deadlift/pushpress weight next time. The box jumps were hellish. Had a hard time holding form on the BORs especially round 3.

bingo
lol. yeah that's interesting to think about, yeah it was like that back in the day, everyone jumped when the phone rang. I saw a lecture one day many years ago that talked about the cell phone being there for the convenience of the owner, NOT the caller. I think it was this lecture that changed my personal beliefs about cell phones, and I have found that in my life the cell gets answered only when I have time and interest in talking with the caller OR if I think the caller needs something sort of urgent, otherwise I let it ring, heck about 98% of the time I don't even leave the ringer on. I think that since I can take the phone wherever I go, then I consciously decide to talk to them when I have time, which sometimes isn't for days.
thinking about the social effects of technology is fascinating, thank you
Bingo,
My phone is always on vibrate, and I never take a call while engaded in conversation. I watch my little bro who is five years younger, he's mid - text while talking to me. Drives me nuts.
Strong Lil Pony,
I thought I was the only one who sat there, staring into space trying to muster the courage to begin the WOD. I tell my training partner (non - crossfitter)it's like getting on a roller coaster, once you get on, there's no gettin off.

last time 287--what killed me? Not checking my previous reps to know what I had to beat, and boxjumps. Lost at 12 reps from what I got last time on box jumps alone, if I knew what I got last time, I would have pushed harder, although that is no excuse. Had some time issues as my stupid wrist stop watch would stop on a rep and Id have to restart it. Also had the same distance issues to the rower that I'm sure plenty of other globo's have. Oh well, I worked hard, did better in most areas (different gym and rower and I think i did full minutes last time, this time I only did 45 seconds to make up for the trip from the rack to the rower) but lost a few calories on rows. Damn, I'm just pissed because if I could go back to an hr ago and look at my previous times, I think I would have pushed harder, even though box jumps round two, I almost met pukie. Ahhh. That's my vent session for myself, I don't want to let it ruin my day, so I'll just remember that next time I kill it.

First FGB. This is one sadistic beast. I had to sub several things, so in the end it looked like this:
Dumbbell thrusters (2X20)
75 lb SDHP
18" Box Jump
75 lb Press
Burpees (Also first time doing these)

rd 2: 22,16,15,18,7
rd 3: 20,16,14,19,8

I was pretty surprised to see the numbers stay so consistent. I was shocked to see the burpee number go uop, but as I got used to the technique, I was able to more efficiently move through the reps. This is one I'll not soon forget.

First time for this WOD. OMG! Scaled 20 lb ball to 10lb. Had to run out to the sporting goods store to get one, because I have not had the money to buy a proper wall ball yet. Also had to assemble my free standing basketball hoop from storage.
For scoring, I divided the wall ball reps in half. Rounded up on the last round because I think I earned it.

I feel your pain with the stopwatch. FGB is not "loner friendly" by any means. I can't wait for the day where i get to do it with someone else counting and recording so I can just be in the moment of the work out and go balls to the wall. I managed somehow to convince my girlfriend to give CrossFit a try. She's done an impressive Cindy (with serious mods, but wtv) and she's an excellent runner so she understandably had a hard time with the physical weightlifting demands of FGB. However, she did an outstanding job today and I would like everyone who reads this to congratulate her on an excellent first WOD.

Man, I don't know what the heck is wrong with me, even my kill to death ratio on my fav video game is half of what it usually is. My minds been foggy and I've had a tiny bit of diziness the last week or so. Hell the last WOD cycle all I did was the front squats and turkish getups. Had to stop the 10/10x10 in the second round.
That and I have a strange soarness in my forearms..I'll try stretching them out.
I'm half heartedly zoning, wonder if I need to eat more.
Anyways..a dizmal 216. Did 45lbs thrusters instead of wallball. Was shocked that my legs were aching after 15 reps on the second go thru..seriously...I can do more then that at Fran weight!
Oh and the FGB mp3 I had missed a mark so I think I rested for two minutes instead of 1 between round two and three. I paced myself this time, next time (when I feel healthy) I'll go all out.

355 pts as rx'd except instead of wallball I played tiddlywinks with a 5lb dumbbell, instead of sumo deadlift high pull I bicep curled 10 lbs, instead of box jumps I hopscotched, instead of push press I played world of warcraft, and then instead of rowing I hopscotched again........for real what's with some of these substituions you people are posting??? maybe im just bitter at my 174 but this has me questioning the validity of people posting on this message board day in & day out for me to get suggestions/workout advice on WODs for. I get that this is a hard WOD, but im on my 2nd month of crossfit & I did it as rx'd with the clock running 17 minutes straight on the dot & was able to do it. i find that any male doing SDHP & pushpress with anything less than 75 lbs is unacceptable & a disgrace....also, doing a box jump less than 20" is ridiculous as well....wall ball subbing & row subbing is okay but seriosuly.....55 lb push press/sdhl is BS and you should be ashamed of yourself...get creative, find & make equipment...this is crossfit be the guy carrying in a 20lb duct-taped ball into globo gym...do you really want to be the guy that push pressed 55 lbs for FGB? I know I don't.........really couldn't do 20 more lbs???

I think next time, I'll try to shoot for at least 22 per round. Any excess should bring me up to around 330. The row, as always, was lacking ... a steady 17-20. Still not bad for a PR.

Lousy day - have still not managed to do this as prescribed... all kinds of variations:
1. Using 11# ball (5 Kg - biggest at gym)
2. Get way too winded doing each exercise - have to rest a little... have to anyway just to write down the totals.
3. Can't do many box jumps. I do a variation - stepping up one leg at a time. Totally different movement - but if I do just box jumps, my numbers plummet. On the other hand - why should I care?! :)

+Rower might have been on a lighter setting - still rowing at ~33 SPM. Last time I got 14/12/12 for calories.
I also think my boxes were a little higher this time than last - although with no rule, I'm not sure they were actually 20".
I think next time I'll just take it easier and stay within the limits. Don't care if the numbers go down.

Fight gone badly indeed. Overall I guess I'm happy with the results since this time was "as Rx'd" - but last time I had the strained pec so I was hoping for more improvement...
Notes: The C2 rower is in a different room in the gym, a 10 second walk away, so I lost a few reps with the transition time. I'm still taking too much time on my mini-breaks - particularly in SDHPs and box jumps. Happy with push press - on that at least I was held back by muscle fatigue more than oxygen debt. Also, maybe I need a higher damper seeting on the row - I felt like I was rowing pretty hard but not getting much cals.

L shoulder pain on PP
Globo subs:
16# WB - there's a stupid lip that runs around the wall in the Courtney gym, when the ball hits it, it falls right past my hands and onto my face (X3, fun)
32" box jump. Either 32 or 12, no in between.Crazy. That probably dropped me 15 points.
Burpees. I'd rather row.
Long transition between BJ and PP.
Forgot my watch, so going off the wall clock.
Altogether unhappy, except that I obviously worked way harder in those 17 minutes than all the other people in the gym combined. The chick working the counter said, "Sooo that's what pain looks like."

CrossFit was the foundation for my training
Okay, had to set up my own "Fight Gone Bad" since I do not have access to a rower and stuff in the gym is WAY too far away.
So, this is Vaughn's groovy garage "Fight Gone Bad."--
Pull ups-- Any style.
Burpees-- Clap overhead.
Box Jump-- Literally. Two milk crates. Leap over them and repeat.
Thrusters-- One 35# kettle bell. Substitutes for the wall ball.
Wavemaster standing punching bag-- Combo set of two jabs, one cross and follow with a round kick or "chop" kick from the rear leg. Each combo from each right and left lead counts as one rep.
My results were not terribly impressive. For the first round I had a total score of 90. Second was 81 and third was 78. Damn that was a workout.
We then sparred for two minutes after about a two minute rest. Amazing how a little fatigue can wreak havoc on technique and control. All I had was gross motor movement and wild big techniques that were ugly as hell. Makes you really respect professional fighters.

Had to sub 12" box jumps as the 20" box was missing; Also subbed 35 lb. plate thrusters for wall ball.
This was my first FGB and had a hard time completing without taking a couple rests longer than I should have. Need to pace myself better next time and not blow it all on the first round.

This was fun and hard at the same time.
Three months with CrossFit today.
Notes for next time:
1) Did rows for reps, 1-point per rep, Bowflex - 80 lbs.
2) Next time keep a running clock for overall time.
