1st round - 2:58
2nd round - 3:47
3rd round - 3:58
4th round - 3:57
5th round - 4:17

2 minutes of rest in between each round.

I did this today at the gym, as it's one of my favorite workouts. I just got over a stomach virus so I didn't have the strength to a CFT so I figured I'd knock this out. Ironic that it gets posted when I walk in the door from the gym. I'll do it again tommorow, just because it works so well!

Comment #28 - Posted by: Eric Gohl 22/5'10/164 at January 24, 2009 7:01 PM

Hey...the good news is we got a benchmark "girl" WOD! The bad news is that it's "Barbara".

Here's a classic Crossfit workout. No weights. Just you and gravity. And a stopwatch. Ooooohhhhh yes, and a stopwatch.

20 PU. We've talked plenty about PU this month. The default PU for CF is the kipping PU. Gymnastics kip or butterfly kip for this one. Can't kip? Bummer. Trade in your stopwatch for a sundial. Palms away, palms facing, or palms toward, it STILL doesn't matter. Scale by using assistance for this one: bands, gravitron, or jumping (NO NEGATIVES--for the love of G_D, stop it).

30 push-ups. Chest to deck. Break up this and any sets as much as you need, but do 30 before you go on to the next exercise. Need to scale? Do them from your knees, but don't call them "girl" push-ups until you can beat Nicole at overhead squats, and she's undefeated. Push against a Smith bar, a wall, etc. if necessary.

40 Sit-ups. Anchored, unanchored, abmat, whatever. GHD? What, are you nuts? 200 GHD sit-ups? You're a Newbie, don't be silly.

50 squats. No added weight, just your a$$ and everything attached to it. Crease of your hips below your knees. Med ball target only if you can't figure out where your a$$ is in space. Full extension at the top.

Do these four exercises, completing each one before starting the next, and then rest "precisely" 3 minutes. You simply can't imagine how fast 3 minutes can go until you experience the 3 minutes between rounds 4 and 5 of "Barbara"! Record your time for each of the five rounds, ie. you post 5 times as your result.

FWIW, I always fight "Pukie the Clown" more in this WOD than any other one I've encountered in 3+ years of crossfitting. If you read the "compare to" comments that's a pretty common observation. Don't underestimate "Barbara". Come to think of it, if you are truly new think seriously about only three rounds. Really. You're starting to grow on us; we're becoming fond of you and would miss you if you put yourself in the hospital with Rhabdo.

I don't have the same love/hate relationship with "Barbara" that I have with "Fran". I just hate "Barbara".

Ah well...3-2-1...Go!

Comment #29 - Posted by: bingo at January 24, 2009 7:10 PM

Eric Gohl - always look 4ward to ur posts- ur enthusiasm is only rivaled by s'more

Doing CFT tomorrow so I'll put Barbara on the shelf and do her later in the week. Last time I did this I was only crossfitting 2 weeks. I was working late at the hospital and snuck into the rehab center and did a ridiculously scaled version. I managed 3 rounds before nauseau overwhelmed me LOL It will take a while but I think I can do this as prescribed :)

s'more, carlox- I *am* going to Ecuador! Will let you know when and I will hit Crossfit Ecuador. Also planning on going to the Games in July. Just got vacation time clearance. Yay..

Last time only three rounds- hoping for better tomorrow.

Comment #33 - Posted by: sara- edmonton 25/ f /140 at January 24, 2009 7:28 PM

I've gained 30 lbs with SS + GOMAD. (Uhh... yeah, I know I was pretty darn skinny.) I want to gain another 30-40 lbs this year, but I'm a little concerned about this ever expanding belly. I've gone up to 15% bodyfat. Is that too much? I could probably push it up a little further, but how do I know when its too much? 18%? 20%?

Also, when I stop drinking the milk I'm gonna do Crossfit + Zone diet. I am VERY afraid I might lose some LBM with a sudden drop of calories. How should I phase the gallon out? Over the course of a month? Couple of weeks?

I fought real hard for the gains I've made, and I don't want to step backwards. But I can't go on forever with this belly balooning up. Plus, my whole reason in the first place for doing SS was to be better at Crossfit. Your advice is appreciated...

Thank you so much! I don't think anyone on the planet could rival s'mores attitude haha, so to even be compared to him along with any of the other helpful posters on here is a true compliment. I LOVE Crossfit and if I can inspire even one other person to share that enthusiasm I am and will be overjoyed. Can't believe you're going to Ecuador AND the Games. I'm so jealous!! I need to find a way to save up some moolah so i can at least go to the Games. Guess we'll see!

I just got done with the oh lunges/burpees WOD...and i just dripped sweat on my computer. Oops! 11:09 and no back pains baby :D

I'm baaaaack! (pun intended!)

I don't think anyone could put it any better than Carlox... so I won't try. Beautifully put, man, she is dirty and filthy, but I miss her when she's gone.
And as always I have pleanty of big hugs for you s'more. It's almost getting to the point where you can't say that you have bad english anymore.

Comment #43 - Posted by: RC at January 24, 2009 8:49 PM

What I love about CrossFit: Today I had a disappointing CFT, and this comes up for tomorrow. I am going to try and hit this so hard that I puke tomorrow. This one is a total gut check, mental toughness building, WOD. I love it.

I don't think I am going to be able to sleep!!!!

#34 Snori - One of the things Robb Wolf talks about at the nutrition cert is quality vs. quantity. Work on eating better foods. Just follow the prescription from CF's fitness in 100 words "...meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar..."

I fount easier to get into Zone portions AFTER cleaning all the crap out. Start with "no sugar" and work backwards a week at a time if you need to. Cut all bread, white potatoes, rice, and processed foods out of your diet. Shop around the outside of the super market, that is where all the refrigeration and freezer units are.

There is a book out there called "Paleo Diet for Athletes" that is pretty good that explains the science behind eatting a paleoithic diet. For me, it has been WAY easier to eat right after reading Sears' "Into the Zone," attending the nutrition cert, and reading "Paleo Diet for Athletes" since I understand better the Omega-3/Omega-6 ratios, etc.

I'm at 16 2X fat

I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch nearly every single day:

Breakfast is 3 eggs, scrambled with 3 slices of turkey bacon in olive oil (4 x PRO, 2 X F), 1 1/3C. of grapefruit juice (2 x CHO) and an apple (2 x CHO) and 18 cashews (6 x Fat). I usually eat the apple RIGHT after I workout in the morning before I shower and usually eat the cashews while my eggs are cooking or on my way out the door to work.

Lunch is easy. 4 oz of lunchmeat (4 x PRO)(turkey or roast beef, the grocery store here carries gluten-free meat), two apples (4 x CHO), and more cashews or walnuts (8 x FAT).

Snack at 1400, usually a cottage cheese cup and a yogurt cup (1P and 1C) and some more nuts.

Dinner is usally whatever the wife makes - and eat it in Zone proportions. She just had a baby, did CF in the past and is about to start up, so she is a Kool-Aid drinker too. Plus she is the one with the Kineseology degree and she has read all the books too.....

Then I have a snack before bed, usually some cheese and some fruit and some more nuts.

There are a ton of articles in the CF Journal, if you haven't subscribed yet, its the best $25 you'll spend!

3,2,1....

Nooooo!!! By all means kip! Bingo said, "kipping is DEFAULT". As in the standard. You can use the classic gymnastic style or the butterfly version. But good lord, kip your heart out if you can otherwise it'll take you forever! Then again, if you want to go deadhang no one is stopping you either. Your workout, your preference :)

Bingo

What a great description of Barbara! You are the best. However, I agree with Mike (#64). When I first started CrossFit in May, I had to resort to jumping pullups and I focused on the negative to help build my strength. I seem to recall reading it somewhere in the literature. (At any rate, if you can't do pull ups, the jumping version will get you there quickly...)

I guess drinking coffee all day at 6000' with little sleep for the last 4 days caught up with me. I figured I better stop since I really couldn't see anymore. It took me about 40 minutes to get a grip on myself.

I heard Coach say one time it's OK to be a pu$$Y. Meow!

Good Morning,

I was irresponsible and did not get up when the alarm went off....that has been a challenge lately. Anyways, I thought I might squeeze this in before my appointment. I did 3 rounds and will go to the gym post-appointment to re-try.

So now, it will 8 rounds! Oh well....from this I learn that I am getting up with the alarm.

Comment #79 - Posted by: Jennifer at January 25, 2009 6:04 AM

Since I'm on the East Coast I always stay one day behind on purpose. The advantage is I get to mentally prepare for the workout and plan what equipment I'll need when I get to the gym. The disadvantage is the psychological havoc it plays on my mind. As soon as I view the WOD I get nervous, HA HA. See you at 0430 Barbie. ROCK AND ROLL!!!

if you double your age & times you would just about have my time..I ranged from 4:36 to 3:44 My last 2 sets were the fastest due to changing to kipping pullups & doing the rest of the WOD directly under the bar..therefore saving a little "transition " time Congrats on a great time Mike & all the other "SPEED MERCHANTS" out there.nice job.

Mike #64, Ronnieboy #75, and any others wondering:

By way of review, in the month of January as a birthday gift to myself and to other long-time posters I am "pre-answering" typical questions that come up again and again (and again), over and over throughout the Comments thread. These questions are typically asked by either the lazy (of course that wouldn't be ANYONE here, eh?) of the very enthusiastic newcomers. In general I am speaking to the Newbies.

Negative PU are a classic eccentric movement. While it is true that doing negative Jumping PU is an excellent way to train to increase you PU ability, doing large numbers of Jumping PU with negatives is a classic way to induce either Rhabdomyolysis or severe localized muscle trauma. Jumping PU WITH NEGATIVES should NOT be done by Newbies as part of a WOD where one is pushing for time, gunning the intensity pedal. That's how people get hurt.

Along the same line, high volume fast work of large muscle groups (like the squats today) are also a potential problem with athletes who are new to high intensity work. This is why I also suggested that Newbies scale this bodyweight WOD.

So, Mike, who should you trust, FAQ or bingo? Well, both of us. I'm talking about Jumping PU with negatives in a WOD used by Newbies without sufficient CF seasoning; the FAQ is talking about training to increase your PU ability. Subtle but important difference.

DO NOT DO JUMPING PU WITH NEGATIVES 100 TIMES IN BARBARA!

We now return you to our regularly scheduled pain...

Sunday musings...

1) Loving pets. "Nuff said.

2) Emoticons. As we move more and more of our communication to electronic routes I find it more and more common that I misunderstand someone or they misunderstand me. I suppose this is partly due to the shorthands that we have all fallen for. These written shortcuts are sometimes as difficult to parse as a doctor's handwriting, both of which are lacking because the author is trying very hard to save time (trust me on the doctor thing; that's all it is).

And so we have the emoticon, the little figures that have been spawned by the ubiquitous smiley face, to help us express the emotional intent of the author. These, too, are lacking for they cannot truly convey the same subtlety as an upturned corner of the mouth, a flaring nostril, or the slight tremor in an angry voice. It's important to keep this in mind each time we communicate in this manner, here and elsewhere.

There is, for example, no emoticon for a wry chuckle.

3) Prayer. I'm not a big prayer. I've really avoided praying for myself over the course of my lifetime--always seemed presumptuous. While I have fallen away from the Religion of my youth I have maintained my faith, and so I DO pray occasionally.

What is interesting, and why I mention prayer here, is that I find myself praying for people I really barely know, men and women in our Armed Forces who are in harm's way on our behalf. I recently discovered that a Crossfit SF friend of mine will ship out this summer, off to some area in the teeth of a conflict because that's what he does. I had hoped to see him in July. His surname suggests that he and I share(d) that same Religion of youth; I have no idea whether or not that is true, as I have no idea whether or not he prays.

But I find him, and others like him, in my prayers of late. Unplanned; it just happened. So if you pray at all, and I know that many among you do, won't you think of my friend and others like him on occasion?

In my little prayer I'm simply asking to shake his hand again after he comes home.

I'll see you next week...

Still hoping to sync back up with the main-site WOD - did Cindy yesterday - today is a 10k time trial. Monday I'm thinking I can do the CFT - I'll have access to eqpmnt.

Bingo is definitely right about the negative PU - I just wish I had read that the first time I did Cindy - I could barely do 8 PU's in a row - and near the end of that first Cindy, I was doing ALL negative jumping PU's. I was so sore I basically lost arm functionality for 4 days! Sleep was brutal! Listen to bingo!

Cheers all,

If you are 15% bf at 160lbs, that means your Lean Mass = 136lbs. That ain't alot for somebody that is 5'11". There's alot of skinny dudes on here that crank out pull-ups, but then they put up CFT numbers in the 700lb range. Very few that have that small amount of lean mass and have big numbers across the board.

This is just me talking, but I wouldn't even think about dieting down until I was at least 200lbs. Forget your abs and rounds of Cindy for a minute and just get strong. Jason Khalipa, Josh Everett, etc, etc...those guys were all strong when they started this, and not 136lbs LBM. I have fairly good idea of Rip would tell ya.

Alright, milk and big macs it is! I don't know what got into me last night. I got a pretty good idea what Rip would tell me also. Thats why I didn't post these concerns on his forum. Coach advised me in the past, at my height, to get up to at least 185 lbs, or preferably as much as 200 lbs. And when I asked him about bodyfat he just stared at me. Hehe, I should've known better.

So, I'm gonna shoot for about 195 lbs, and a 1000+ Crossfit Total before I go back to Zone + Crossfit.

#44

Thanks for the information. Thats very helpful. Thats probably about exactly the diet I'd like to follow when I go back into Crossfit. Looking forward to it too. It won't be as expensive or disgusting as this 5,000 calories a day plan!

P.S. I gained a pound last night!

When I was learning to do pull ups, I found the bands more useful, especially to learn the kipping motion. When I did jumping pull ups, I was mainly using my legs and not gaining as much strength in my arms, shoulders, and lats. Doing negatives also helped with the strength part. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ava - i kind of feel like i am better doing the band because i can kind of get the feel of what kipping should feel like. The extra 15#s i am carrying doesn't help its like doing weighted PUs i guess - ha ha. however i am down 35# from where i started so I am getting there. Entered the zone after christmas and dropped 11#s this month so far - woo hoo!!

45 seconds better than my PR of 31:54. I gamed the rounds similar to a tabata where I did the first 4 rounds in 3:54. That was the same as my second best round from my PR. I wanted to keep as much in the tank as I could for the last round and to keep each round under 4:00. Part of the improvement is due to overall fitness improvement but part of it is due to strategy.

Comment #177 - Posted by: epicurious at January 25, 2009 11:26 AM

Shoulder feeling better, but I'm not going to chance 150 pushups.

"Modified Barbara"

10 HSPUs (hands on floor, head to floor depth)
15 door pullups
20 hollow rocks
25 pistols (13 total right leg, 12 total left leg)

2:41
2:52
2:55
2:46
2:50

No breaks on the headstand pushups.

Breaks on door pullups starting round two at 13/2. Breaks on remaining pullup rounds at 11/4. Much harder then kipping pullups as they are strict pullups with thighs dragging up and down the door.

No breaks on hollow rocks. Pelvis had to come off the floor and lower back off the floor each rep to count.

Pistols done 8R, 7L, 5R, 5L. All reps below parallel and I didn't even fall over once with the left leg. I think the yoga and rolfing work done on my collapsed left ankle is helping; my left leg pistols were probably the best they have ever been.

Finished with light stretching and door slides.

Ashley and Lisa,
Yea, go wih the band. You can learn to kipp at the same time. I've got it down pretty good but I can't imagine ever doing the big numbers totally unassisted at my age. I've only been a crossfitter for four months and have made great progress but I'm wondering how many other 50 year old women are out there doing over 100 pull ups? I'm darned proud and you should be too!
And Lisa, Wow on the weight! Keep zoning. I now get visits from Mr. Pukey after a piece of bread! My kids want pasta tonight-yuck.
Nice to meet you ladies.
Ava too!

Well...
First time going around the mulberry bush with Barbara, so I took bingo's sage advice (thank you bingo!) and scaled this one appropriately as follows:
3 rounds - to finish, not for time
* Pullups were jumping and broken (again, thanks to bingo for pointing out the inherent danger in negatives on this WOD)
* Pushups felt good - broken 30-20 almost uniformly
* Situp unanchored - broken 25-25
* Squats broken 35-15 almost every set except for the last one, which was hideous...

The one bright part of this workout was that the pullups felt better and I felt stronger doing them than other pull-up-centric WODs.

Going to watch Fedor and Arlevski beat on each other before going to bed to try and recover for tomorrow's workout (please be a long run, please...)

Brutal, pull ups are definately the slowest part, each set took several minutes, got through the other stuff pretty quick. I'm thinking on a metcon workout instead of waiting to recover and finish the pullups as rx'd I should kip as many as I can and then turn them into a jumping pull up to keep the workout moving. Thoughts?

off pace today, but to be fair to today's time I don't think my rom was up to par in my previous barbara's...on my squats I mean. below 90 and open hip at top today (missed last posted barb). It makes a difference.

I agree with the guy I heard on cf radio...barbara makes me queasy.

DNF, only did one round (5:36) very sore w/ everything baddly broken up except pullups. had a DNF the last time this came up, but i'll get her soon. i can count my DNF's on one hand and two are barbara.

I totally cheated towards the end. I could feel myself going down a little less each time on the pull-ups as the reps went on. I was also going down to about 90 degrees on my push-ups so that it probably why my times got progressively faster. On the last set I made sure to do legit sit-ups and my time showed it. Next time I do this workout I need to make sure that I do everything honestly so that my times are more actual.

As Rx'd, SUs were unanchored with ab mat - I wanted to compete against Freddy C. on this one, since he is, well, Freddy C. Thanks for the times Freddy (and the vacation!)

Let me tell you, that ab mat really added a whole new level of suck to it. Definately easier with anchored military sit-ups.

I started CrossFitting on 10/04/08 with "Barbara" and had to modify the WOD to 10 pull-ups per round b/c I couldn't imagine getting through all 100. Now I can kip (kinda) and did Barbara today as rx'd with Glute-Ham Sit-ups:

Round 1 – 4:11 (4:10 on 10/4)
3 mins of rest
Round 2 – 4:35 (3:57 on 10/4)
3 mins of rest
Round 3 – 4:52 (5:06 on 10/4)
3 mins of rest
Round 4 – 4:41 (4:58 on 10/4)
3 mins of rest
Round 5 – 4:52 (6:00 on 10/4)

Time: 23:13 (24:11 on 10/4)

WU: Row 2K (appx 8:40), CFWU x 2 - pull ups, stretching

WOD as rx'd kipping pull ups, standard push ups, anchored sit ups on yoga mat, standard air squats

WOD: 2:48, 2:52, 2:53, 3:08, 3:25 Total: 15:08

That was pretty significant improvement from my 23:16 on 10/4. The workout on 10/4 was my first Barbara and one of my first CF workouts. The biggest difference was in kipping vs. strict pull ups. I wasn't all that comfortable kipping then so I just did strict. Sub-15:00 is my goal for next time. I may have gotten it this time were it not for someone "helping me out" and putting my mat away on set 4 despite my keys and ID sitting right next to it! Thanks bud....

Five rounds 80 ft Farmer's Carry:

Done CrossFit now for about a month. It is the best workout routine I've ever done. I learned about it from some ODA buddies I have. Anyways here is my first time doing Barbara. I have good endurance but my strength could really improve. Anyone got any tips on how to incorporate weight lifting routine into the CF routine?

I used to be good at math... and then I started CrossFit. All the sudden I needed a calculator for everything. The fourth event of the CrossFit Total for me is adding my numbers up. Makes my head hurt... at least it matches my hurtin' body. OW.

First 20 pull-ups unbroken. I was happy with that and almost kept going to see how many I could do.. But I knew push-ups were waiting for me so I moved on.. It was all downhill from there. The only part I didn't mind were the sit-ups. The squats weren't so bad during but I can't walk now.

29:25

3:38; 12:19; 21:29, 32:18, 41:25 - cumulative time including rests. I did the work but you couldn't pay me to do the math.

Here's to a WOD without push-ups, pull-ups or squats tomorrow!

That makes my total workout time 23:43, I think. How do you people crank this out in total work times of sub-15 mins ...?

One redeeming factor - in the interests of doing things I dislike, sit-ups were unanchored.

I know, it doesn't make that much difference, but it helps me feel better about myself!?!

I wish I had read that explanation last May before I did 100 jumping pullups with negatives.

I went to a concert that night and could not straighten out my arms (well, ok, for a week after I couldn't straighten them out!)

But, I didn't have any problems holding my beer at the concert. I was set up to "two-fist" all night long!

1st WOD on my own:

I've been going to a box gym a couple of months for 2x a week, and am starting to add a workout or two extra on my own. Saw today's WOD and thought it would be good to give a shot

And - whew - what a shot!

All as Rx'd except the pull ups which were band assisted:

1) 7:22
2) 6:48
3) 7:45
4) 8:05
5) 8:24

I would have quit on the situps on round 5 due to a developing side ache, but just when I was thinking about ditching, the station I was listening too plays "Blitzkrieg Bop" - and hearing that chorus "Hey! Ho! Lets GO!" - I just had to finish!

So my first real WOD on my own - and it gives me the same post workout feel I get from the box gym.

Thanks Coach!

Round 5: 7:11

Total: 30:21 Just not feeling it today... about 8 minutes off my PR... didn't even get close to an upset stomach today and I always get that with Barbara, my intensity was just not there...

Pull Ups: done on a bar that is mounted very close to a wall so a full kip was not possible. I was able to get full extension and my head through at the bottom but I had to keep my legs in a frog type position as I pulled from the bottom. I broke the sets into 10,10 for the first two and 7,7,7 for the rest.

Push Ups: Chest to deck arms close to my torso, head up. Broke these into 15,10,5 on all sets.

Sit Ups: Un-anchored hands in front of me knees bent. All sets unbroken

Squats: Really working on jumping up at the top for a complete quick hip opening, I left the ground on every rep. Below 90 at the bottom. Broke all sets into 25,15,10

Well, that's all I have to say about that...

Strong work Fit Mom in CT!!!! Wow

Bingo, Everyone really appreciates your continued effort keeping the fun questions that drive off into tangents to a minimum. I haven't even seen one day this year so far where we have the "just post your times and stop asking stupid questions" comment, very cool :>)

i loved this work out after so much olympic lifting. fun to do something different.

i try to not rely on the mirror to measure my progress with CF and the ZONE, but the Body Fat scale at my gym has been broken for a while. i can honestly say im seeing a vast improvement, and considering your own eyes are the worst judges i would say its probably better than i realize. I have lost a significant amount of fat which is great, but what im happiest about is my muscle definition.
ever sense my days as a pro skier iv always had big muscles, but they were more beefy then defined i could never figure out how to change that no matter how much i changed up my work out. but now its all coming together.
so once again Thank you CF, thank you ZONE, and thank you coach!!!

Also after seeing that lever while playing with my kids at the park I thought I'd show them how to do one to see if they can do it.

Turns out it's not as easy to do as I remember it being when I was a kid. But my 5 year old almost got it.

Good times.

8 sets of intervals of 3 min hard/ 3 min easy

I am craving so many workouts for this week I can't wait! I have been wanting to do one we did with heavy C&J and sit ups, "The Bear", the 150 burpees for time...just lots and lots! Can't wait to hit the gym tomorrow!

Warm-up: 100 SU + 50 DU; CFWU 1x13.

As Rx: 2:51 - 3:14 - 3:58 - 4:26 - 4:36.

Cool-down: 15 min. fighting-off Mr. Pukie and winning! Take that Barbara. Then a little hamstrings stretching.

PR on R1 only. Strict pull-ups; chest & thighs to floor push-ups; AbMat sit-ups; 11-inch box squats.

Lats were a little tight w/pull-ups; probably from yesterday's DL. First time using AbMat in a WOD. I think it slowed me down, but gave my abs a much better burn. Worth it.

Did this WOD as late in the day as posb.; regulated my breathing; sipped green tea between rnds; and pressed every anti-nausea pressure point I could reach. Still, it was a tough post-WOD battle.

Yeah I died on that last one. Spent the next five minutes hovered over my globogym's lawlessly polished stainless steel trashcan while the guys on the ab machine stared at me in horror.

I do have to say, I was definitely drawing from the epic power of the message board today. After a Mos Def concert last night (where I mos def consumed too many Hefeweizens) I spent most of my Sunday crushing pasta and two naps. However, I got the guilties when I saw the posted pain on the board and dragged my butt 3 blocks and 4 avenues through the Manhatttan cold and got it done. Hoo rah. Way to be everybody.

WOW Sub 9's!! That's amazing! So let's see, 140 reps per round and 5 rounds so that is 700 events in oh let's see 60 times nine so 540 seconds and that comes to 3/4 of a second per event...?

Amazing and that doesn't take into account transitioning between events which I would assume all events are done directly beneath the pull up bar.

That is a nine minute I would watch, please post.

It's workouts like Barbara that remind of:
-The necessity of the kip, which I cannot do.
-How awesome it is to destroy every muscle group (mind included) in your body, from top to bottom, five times over in one workout.
-How I must not warm up enough, because my first and second rounds are ALWAYS worse than my latter rounds.

A HUGE Thank You to whoever is posting the scaled workouts! Using these the past 2 weeks I finally am building the confidence to tackle Crossfit at my local (not-Crossfit-friendly) gym, and more importantly, getting trough a workout uninjured and still performing my rather physical job.
Barbara Lite: 10 pull-up (negative pull-ups with a 3 count drop), 15 push-ups (on knees), 20 situps, 25 squats:
2:24, 2:17, 2:20, 2:12, 2:14 (ok, so on this last round, the negative pull-ups were more of a 2 or 2.5 second count. just couldn't hold them that long).

I started posting in these starting with the last CFT but I am so out of shape, just doing 2 sets substituting pullups with jumping pullups and pushups with knee pushups made me puke up my fish and left me so weak I could hardly stand up after going in the shower. Unfortunately, I wrote this down last night and didn't read further to find bingo giving "precisely" 3 minutes rest between rounds so I just set the clock running and struggled through. I was smart enough to scale it down to BrandX Pack (10/20/30/40/50).

11:26 (PR)

All sets unbroken. Form started to deteriorate on the last set. Old PR was 16:08 on 081004. I attribute the improvement to my diet. I increased to 2.5x fat a month ago and my performance has improved significantly.

Also did 4 sets of the Burgener warmup and 4 sets of snatch drills. My objective is to learn how to properly snatch and overhead squat. These movements are new to me and I hope to get them figured out as soon as possible. I used very light weights. My shoulder flexibility is poor, but improving.

My wife even got a couple rounds of a scaled-down version Barbara in today:

Becky
f/49/130

2 Rounds For Time - No Breaks Between Rounds:
Pull Ups, 2" Green Band Assisted, 10 reps
Push Ups, From Knees, 20 reps

Gave the kids the day off today. Will put them through this wod next week.

I am a certified firefighter still looking for a job. I wanted to do a program where i will become so fit and strong i will dominated the fitness tests and I know CF is it.

I don't know what happened. I scaled down to pack and was dead set to hit this one hard. Into the second set I knew I was done.

My muscles failed me. It wasn't because they were sore or that I couldn't do the workload. They just had this strange tingly/fatigue feel.

Not sure if I've overtrained or if I didn't eat right before, but I had a great CFT yesterday and was pretty disappointed to pull the plug so early today.

Argh! Very disappointed that I didn't finish all five rounds. I just about collapsed after round three; pounding heart, and Mr. pukie trying to come out. I basicly felt like all my energy was gone.

I usually work out first thing in the AM and don't eat breakfast beforehand. Is this my problem. I've always worked out like this but maybe with the intensity of CF I should start fueling earlier in the AM.

Any suggestions?

I found that when I didnt eat before a workout, especially an intense one, I had extreme feelings of nausea.. ever since feeling that way, i always eat before my workout. if i workout extremelt early that day, i plan to get up and eat at least a half hour before.

Well I think it should be possible. I don't think you can do the pushups a lot faster than I do (and I'm sure I do them so fast that some would and should question my form), but I leave a lot on the table on the situps. It takes me more than a second per rep, and I know they can be done at 1 rep/second or better. I can do 25 squats/20 seconds...I can't believe I'm leaving much room there. It takes me <30 seconds to do 20 chins, but I don't butterfly, so I know there's ~10 seconds I'm wasting there. I can believe a ~ 2:00 min time, but that's gotta to be about the limit.

But this wod was designed for my body. I'm short, stocky, and light. Some of the other wods...I'm too embarassed to post :)

Wow, lots of room for improvement. To the folks who knock all their rounds out faster than my best, Holy Cow! I'd love to see a video of some of these bad-ass times, men and women. Impressive times, folks.

Just moved to small town at 9731' elevation at my house, up from about 5800'. Been here one week. I'm a CF rookie

I did three rounds, after that, my lats would no longer fire, pullups impossible even with vigorous kipping.

I began round 4 sans pullups, with nausea fast approaching. Beginning of round 5 cut short due to bad feeling in my guts. Took a hot bath to stave off the nausea, which usually works. No go. Tossed my cookies!

Total time to barf-o-rama was around 48 minutes.

My coach didn't think barb was hard enough so he made ring pushups instead of regular, then added a 20 on med ball to situps, and added 20lbs med ball to squats to finish each round with a 500 meter row. I dropped the weights and tap out and puked after 3 rounds, I'm a wuss. I need to train harder.

Then I did this one.

I screwed this one up and did it for total time. It took 1:09:03 total, including rest between rounds and a fire drill at my gym.

After the 2 round i did notice i was at about 15min.

I wore a hoody and its pretty warm today, around 70. After i was finished i could ring the sweat out of my shirt.

Well EB got me thinking about what's possible on this wod:

Techically, you should do the pushups on a device that you can hold onto so that you can pull yourself toward the ground and push back up. That could really decrease your pushup times. Same thing with the squats. If you could slide your feet under straps, so you can pull your butt to the ground quicker (faster than gravity), then you could really remove some time from the squats. You can already (and should be) pushing yourself down from the chin bar. I think a beast using these methods could get well below 2 mins a round.

I'd love to see someone do this a post a video!

10 jumping pull-ups

Was going to do 20, 30, 40, 50 but 150 push-ups would have crushed me. Also forgot my stopwatch, so had to use an analog clock on the wall, and I ended up finishing in 42 minutes - 12 minutes for rest = almost exactly 30 minutes.

I know I would have had to push hard to get 3 mins for the 5th rnd though... after rnd 4 I was feeling it in my pushups and in my situps. I did the handstand pushups and the L-pullups last workout.
