Christmas musings...

Want what you have. Think about it. Today is a day of giving. How much easier to focus on giving if all you want yourself is what you already have.

It's tempting at all times, but particularly at this time of the year, to give in to jealousy, to want some of that which others have. To have some of their blessings, whatever they may be. I don't want the blessings of others. I am happy for their blessings. I don't want their's because my blessings are on the way.

I don't need the blessings that others enjoy. I am happy that their needs are so amply filled. I don't need their's because my blessings are on the way.

Thank you, Greg and Lauren, for this gift that you have given to me, given to all of us here at the Crossfit table.

May your blessings, and those of the entire Crossfit family, be on the way.

Merry Christmas.

Darrell

I'm new to CF. I was wondering if you have to do all 100 of each exercise at once for "Angie" or could you split it into sets? For example, could you do 10 pullups, 10 pushups, 10 situps, 10 squats: x10?

Merry Christmas

Comment #17 - Posted by: Brandon at December 24, 2008 7:41 PM

Good thing this workout doesn't require weights, because I have to do it at a park or somewhere else because my gym is closed tomorrow.

Yeah you dont move on to Push ups until you are done with the Pull ups..and so on...but as you say you could do 10 sets of 10 reps of every thing or 5 sets of 20 reps.

Merry Christmas to everyone....

For tens of thousands of years, we've celebrated with traditions of generosity to friends and loved ones, to bring health and joy during the darkest period of the year. I feel like I'm always on the receiving end of this generosity from CrossFit.

I want to say thanks to everyone involved in CrossFit, and especially to Coach who started it all. It was this virtual community that first drew me in and gave me a new direction for a lifelong passion. I love what all of you have created, and I'm thankful to be a part of it.

"Jumping Angie" for me to keep shoulder happy:

100 second L-sit on parallettes
100 18" box jumps
100 anchored situps
100 lateral jumps over med balls, sandbags, luggage and parallettes

13:35

L-sits broken 40-20-20-10-10 second intervals while the master clock kept running (it takes two timers to do this workout)

Box jumps were tough as always....killed my time, but at least I didn't have any misses or near misses this time

Anchored situps not fast but unbroken

Lateral jumps over 10 obstacles of different heights and diameters....jumping to the right went well and usually unbroken, left side jumps terrible. I seem to have no idea what I'm doing when jumping to my left.

Regular Angie is much easier for me....I would rather do pullups and pushups than jumping!

Happy Holidays from The Coast Guard base in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where just about all the WODs take place outdoors, in the sun, the rain, the pool, the ocean, or (with all the bugs!) out on the soccer field.

Thank you to The Glassmans and all the contributors for their gifts throughout the year of science, technique, and improved health.

This is designed as a calisthenic workout, bodyweight only. Weighted squats will be listed as either back squats or front squats to designate.

Merry Christmas to the CrossFit Nation! Prayers and thoughts for all those in harm's way and their families. I am lucky enough to be with my family this year. Stay safe.

Angie, as Rx'd - 16:37 (PR)

Gillian - the salutes totally reminded me of the gymnastics cert and Coach Tucker's comments. Amazing work, my 5 yo daughter was impressed!

Someone made a comment on the HSPUs - Coach Tucker actually goes over this in his gymnastics cert....the form, you'll notice, is nearly the same as on shoulder presses - tight body, the hand and arm position and pushing the shoulders into the ears....this allows for transference between the SPs and HSPUs, so when you work on one, you work on the other. The body position - keeping a tight core, tight legs, allows for better body control, balance, and increased coordination. All and all, you'll have an increased economy of motion.

All this, and it looks a helluva lot better than an upside down space invader on the wall....not sure how functional that is....

Merry Christmas everyone! It's time to so spend my Rogue Fitness gift cards!

3,2,1....Dave

Warm up: 2000m Row

CFWU x 3 minus pull ups.

Wod: 17:50 as rx'd. FINALLY STARTED TO KIP!!!!

After about my 20th deadhang, I tried mimicking the kipping motion Ive seen on the endless amount of CFJ vids Ive watched. Magically, it just happened and I lost my Kipping virginity.

I pumped out about 20 in a row right after that (fatigue from the deadhangs). The feeling when you generate the power from your hips to get your chest to the bar is nuts. I was so pumped that I did another 30 when I was done the wod!

Merry Christmas everyone. Be safe and have fun!

What a Christmas present! I had the pleasure of hitting this WOD with MikeG, Tattoo Nicky, Jeannie, Will and Damon, and I have to say that having them there made a huge difference in my performance today! It was SO MUCH FUN! (and I don't usually say that about workouts!)

I want to sincerely thank those who took a special trip on Christmas Day just to visit CrossFit Rx: MikeG, from CrossFit Atlanta, Tattoo Nicky, from all over the place, and Jeannie, from Jeannie's Beach CrossFit - you guys rock!

Also, what better way to start a workout than a PR? It must have been the competitive atmosphere; I hit 25 consecutive pull-ups right at the beginning, a PR of 3 for me :)

Merry Christmas to the wonderful Crossfit community! It's been 2 years (12/22/2006) since I started Crossfit and I couldn't ask to be around better people. Hope you're all having a wonderful day.

BTW,
Was working yesterday and did Angie. Was hoping for a PR but didn't get it. My grip was toast from "McFlurry" the day before. 185# cleans wrecked me (I weight ~178), anyways, this WOD is always punishing.

Jay M. in SC - Thank You. I look forward to your posts as well. I've always enjoyed the friendship or whatever it is that I get from each of the frequent posters. Bingo and Jrock are two of my favorites as well. It would be cool to get everyone in the same room at the same time one day. But for now it's great meeting you all here.
I'll keep things interesting just for you and your wifey. I've got a good one up my sleeve so hold on to your seat. :P Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Major procrastination happening over here.

Goal is to do Angie minus the pull-ups and to do two things with the push-ups-
time the 100 and try to break the time I had before the stupid 50 day thing I did..
and see how many I can get unbroken while I'm fresh.

Now if I could only un-glue my little booty from this big cozy chair...

#266 Todd~

Zoning is a lifestyle change in eating habits in my personal opinion and it's ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Takes discipline and patience-especially the first 2 weeks I think. Go to zonediet.com. You eat in blocks of protein/carbs/fat. I have always been careful of my eating, but zoning took me to a different level-I started zoning June 23, 2008 (crossfitting April 12, 2008) and have seen great gains since starting crossfit and then adding Zone lifestyle eating.

Angie performed using "deck of cards" format. Cards well shuffled, face cards 10, aces 11, numbered as valued. Full deck + jokers totals 100 reps of each exercise.

Hearts - pushups
Diamonds - pullups
Spades - situps
Clubs - squats
Jokers - 1st: 5 pullups & 5 squats, 2nd: 5 pushups & 5 situps

All pullups were jumpers. Matt and Karen time 29:28.

My times in almost all WODs recently have been improving. The two factors I think are contributing to this is an increased fat intake (double to triple) and sticking to the 3 on 1 off routine. I knocked out the 100 pull-ups in about 4:45 on this one, which made up for my slow push-ups, which were about 6min.

Actually did this workout on 12/26 but wanted to be able to reference back later.

Total Time: 32:26

I subbed Angie for a workout earlier in the month and got it is 28:18. However, tonight I did all 100 before moving on whereas on the 12th I did 5 sets of 20. I think tonight's was harder and therefore I should be happy with my time. That's what I'm telling myself.

Crapped out on the pull ups. I feel like the secret is to get into a good groove on the pull ups instead of working close to failure the entire time, especially when you have to crank out 100 push ups immediately afterward. I'm going to try and utilize the tabata protocol for the pull ups next time around. If I can do 100 pull ups in under 4 min without being too gassed, I'll be in good shape.
