I've been CF-ing since April, and I've never done Cindy! Blaspphemy!

Great feature on Kyle, as well. I remember watching him years ago on features as the HS nose tackle making stops at the LOS with no extremities! Then later, I saw him wrestling!

Amazing. And inspring. I hope to meet this great young man someday.

I think it will be one of those things you regret in the morning.. 40 minutes of hard work is more than most men can handle.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

2 TOTALLY INSPIRATIONAL VIDEOS'S!!!
Kyle Maynard is a true inspiration and reveals that our limitations are mental. A big Crossfit shout out to you and an awe inspiring wake up call. You got all my respect.

#4 Willie Albert "King Kong" video

As if Maynard weren't enough, I clicked on the link and got the double whammy!

I'm speechless. I thought only "bigger guys" could be competitive with such heavy weights. But, you have given this 178# 37 yr old a dose of reality and a kick in the arse.

Limitations are in my mind only. I'm setting the goal to complete King Kong in the next 4 months.

#13 Richard
From someone who occasionally does 2 Crossfit WOD's in the same day, against the advice of my Crossfit trainer, I begrudgingly (yet humbly) offer the following advice.

If you do both consider Cindy first in the early am.

Rest/recover with a solid 1-2 hour nap mid day.
Hydrate like a dolphin.

Do Mary in the evening.

If you've been doing crossfit for more than 8-12 months you should be okay and conditioned enough and maybe be up for tomorrow's WOD. If your under 6 months, your just nieve to suggest this, let alone attempt this (can anyone here tell him what rhabdomyelosis is?).

These WOD's are sisters dude! If you think you can take out 2 sisters one right after the next...ha, you will understand the consequences of that decision.

You may be able to get away with it taking one in the morning and one in the evening. Either way, I'm pretty sure you will be "resting" tomorrow.

Good luck and shoot me an e-mail with the results 24-48 hours after you've completed it, hopefully you will not need to send the e-mail from the hospital. I've paid my dues doing 2 WOD's same day and have the battle scars to prove it.

I agree with AllisonNYC. Take it from a girl who knows crossfit, most guys "think" they have the stamina, but it's typically just ego and bravado.

Comment #43 - Posted by: Chris Mac at October 17, 2008 1:17 AM

Interesting. After nearly two months away from Crossfit and the site, I did a modified version of this last night as my third workout back in the loving arms of Crossfit -- without looking at the site (sketchy internet connection). I feel so much better today that I have in weeks.

I've been in Mozambique since the beginning of September on a six-month contract, and just haven't gotten into a groove yet: long hours, work on weekends, drinks with colleagues after work to talk about work, terrible diet. There are a couple of gyms in town, but that would require calling a taxi every time I want to go, and I regularly leave work at 7pm with no energy.

I discovered quite recently that the house I'm living in has a ledge from which I can do pullups and knees to elbows. The house also has three floors, so there are 20 stairs.

My first workout three days ago was at a small hotel "gym" in Swaziland: 50 squat cleans with, I think, 40 Kg, and Tabata sprints on a a rickety stationary bike. Second workout was 100 burpees in my house back in Mozambique. Didn't time it but, the last 30 really sucked, so I was happy.

Last night: ran up the 20 stairs and back down, then 5 pullups (difficult on the ledge), 10 pushups, and 15 squats. 20 minutes: 9 rounds. My fingertip grip on the ledge started failing in the final two rounds, which definitely made a difference, but I've also lost quite a bit of fitness in a short time. Before I left the States in August, my Cindy was 19 rounds.

In any event, very sorry for the long-winded post, but this week I've already been more productive, had more energy, and generally been in a better mood (even though I miss my wife like crazy). I just want to thank Crossfit (and inspiring Crossfitters like Kyle) for reminding me that I can adapt, I can be creative, and I can figure out how to fit Crossfit into my life. I'm going shopping this weekend; I'm sure I can buy dumbells and a jump rope.

And in the very unlikely event that there are any Crossfitters out there in Maputo, Mozambique, send me an email. Cheers.

Could have done a little more, but lost time in the transitions getting into those rubber bands.

Went to the doctor for a flue shot two hours earlier. The doc asked me whether I'd planned something extreme today or if it was just an ordinary day. Since I do crossfit on 3 out of 4 days, I answered it's going to be an ordinary day and he gave me the shot.

As Rx'd -- first Cindy since we gave up squatting to (READ: bouncing off of) a 'butt-ball'

23 rounds + 5 pull +10 push + 13 squats

That is a PR by 11 squats. I think in reality it is a bigger PR as we stopped using 'butt-balls' for squatting for everyone who is able to squat below parallel. This increases the ROM a bit and makes the squats a bit tougher when going for fast reps.

Pushups were better today that all my prior Cindy's. After round 3 or 4 I broke them up as 6/4 then 6/2/2 toward the end. Squats were unbroken until ~round 14 then broken 11/4 for a quick breather. Pullups felt very strong today.

it has been some time since i've been able to post logsitall age group standings for for a good/bad reason. The traffic to logsitall was crushing my little shared server - and the page load times were sometimes longer than the workout times...When all seemed hopeless about 40 CF'ers suddenly pitched in and underwrote the cost to move logsitall.com to a high capacity dedicated server - and everything is now amazingly blazingly fast...

Our new capacity has let me create two interesting pages driven by the CF workouts logged into logsitall (about 45,000 workouts logged so far).

CrossFit Ranking of the Day: This page has age group standings for the CF workout of the day.

ALL CrossFit "girls" men/women breakouts
http://www.logsitall.com/myranking.asp?user=4564

Between these two pages you can determine benchmarks by age/gender groups for almost all CF workouts. I'm still working on expanding these two pages - and as our server capacity increases i'm going to add more features. Hope you find this useful and if you are one of the 40 - thank you!

Hey, when you guys do these most sets in 20 minutes type work out, do you pace yourselves at all, like ration 1 minute per set, or just sprint it out and let the pain set in(even if it might mean less sets)?

A quick review of comments posted the last time this WOD was assigned reveal most folks select Cindy. For today's WOD this also seems to be the case, at least so far, and I too had initially selected Cindy.

It was then I realized that my choice of Cindy was merely an attempt at avoiding Mary.

This alone is probably a good reason for me to do Mary.

"Big Cindy" with a 20# vest:

20 rounds + 5 pullups, 10 pushups and 11 squats. Pullups were to base of neck ROM, pushups done off 2" blocks to make up for the vest thickness and squats just below parallel with full hip extension.

Feeling fatigued from yesterday's back squat/weighted pullup/full ROM HSPU workout - started breaking the pushups after round 6 and the squats were unpleasant.

Don't really like posting here BUT I just watched the full video of Kyle Maynard and have to comment.

For all the folks who like to post their complete thoughts on the WOD's (whoo, this is gonna hurt , Andrew you are a beast in your tarzan trunks, Susie K keep workin those dandy deadlifts etc, etc) for God's sake shut up.

Kyle claimed that he wishes to be viewed as 'normal' by everyone he meets HOWEVER, after watching his effort on the workout, he's way above normal in terms of effort and determination.

Shame on all you folks that moan!!

Do your very best, like this man does, post your times and then do something else other than whinge!!

That was a fairwell WOD for Nick and the guys as they head back out to...where ever they are going! Such a pleasure to train these guys over the last two weeks! Not just a pleasure, but an honor! When these guys walk into your affiliate, know that it is time to work...and have a great flippin time! You will be missed, and we'll see you on your island in a few months ("f" yes we're coming!)
After that workout J and I went for PR's on DL. SHE, at 112lbs did 240lbs...a PR! Incredible! I stopped at 345lbs as my sciatic was lit up like bloody xmas lights!

#166 Simon,
Some of the comments made by some people posting can be superfluous, but if they are to gauge how they did in their workout, why is it not OK to elaborate (slightly) on how that WOD went? If I get x result and feel terrible afterwards, documenting that for my next attempt at the workout is relevant to gauge my increase in skill or work capacity.

Comment #227 - Posted by: Justin Lascek at October 17, 2008 11:24 AM

Dan Love on the board! Everyone, this guy is a natural-born monster, you'll be hearing a lot more from him in the future.

Dan, we missed you over at Zone 1.

Up-Armored Cindy:
Cindy in "boots & utes" w/ Body Armor & Kevlar helmet (33 lbs for the armor & helmet)

I6: 7 sq short of 14 rds (PR from 11.5 rds)
LT: 13 rds + 5 p/u + 9 pu (PR from 12 rds)
Soto: 11 rds (no boots/helmet) (PR - 1st time)

We've been doing "Cindy sprints" as a warm-up. These are full-out intervals done in a descending pyramid w/ a partner. Goes like this:

3 rds (full sprint)
rest while partner does above
2 rds (full sprint)
rest while partner does above
1 rd (full sprint)
rest while partner does above

This is far more taxing than it sounds.

8, yes, 8 rounds of Cindy. Dead hang pullups, though.

I seriously think I might have gotten as close as I could get to giving myself rhabdo as I could without the pretty urine colors. It was the GHD situps earlier in the week. I've never felt anything like it. And I've done them before. Can't . . . breathe . . . ack . . .

Outside Magazine: November 08 Issue

Is it a slap in the face to CrossFit for the very much deserved comments made to the magazine last month? You decide for yourself... I'll be waiting for the Dave Castro response to this article.

Believe it or not, CrossFit was labeled in the same section as this:

THE HELL-ON-EARTH FITNESS PLAN (Watch a Video)
We don't call him the Lab Rat for nothin'. Fitness experimentalist Nick Heil endures a revolutionary (and brutal) regimen at Salt Lake City's Gym Jones-and lives to gush about it.

Yesterday I finally got in to see the orthopedic surgeon about my hip. It turns out its not stress fractures (or arthritis, the original suspected cause) its a labral tear. I've been spending the last three weeks trying not to move anything that might exert any stress on my femoral neck completely unnecessarily. I am now allowed to do anything that doesn't hurt (except run). So...

WOD: "Cindy"
5 chest to bar pull-ups
10 chest to deck push-ups
15 below parallel squats

total = 20 rounds + 2 pull-ups

and then on that 2nd pull-up of wut woulda been rnd 21, felt the skin ripping on the left palm, so cut it there. wuz happy i wuz able to keep pulling c2b thru the whole thing. squats were nice n deep to full hip extension, and felt better than they have in a while. musta been all the deep overhead squatting from yesterday's snatches.

CFWU x 2, due to time constraints (rowing muscle-ups instead of PUs or dips)

Cindy as RX'd: 20 rounds in 20:10

AHH! Exactly 10 seconds off my goal. After round 10, pushups became sluggish and had to partition 5-5. PUs and squats no problem. In exactly a week I'll be on vacation to London and Oslo for 10 days, so I see myself doing lots of tabatas for lack of any equipment, so maybe that'll help my pushups. :P I feel like I could have squeezed in at least a couple more rounds if it weren't for that tricep fatigue.

Incidentally, damn, just doing that relatively light snatch balance yesterday after Grace got me pretty good. Shoulders are a bit sore from getting stretched out, but what suprised me is my lats were particularly sore (I assume because they are more heavily recruited in that wide-grip overhead lockout). Didn't seem to have any affect on the WOD today, but I woke up at least a few times last night because I rolled right onto those sore muscles. All the more evidence showing how good snatch balance must be for me :).

Take care!

I did 4 weeks of rehab, after I hurt my back last month. only did 7 rounds in 10 minutes, didn't want to push it too hard. Surprisingly, I felt more winded than I thought I would. 3 weeks of not crossfitting is a LONG time. But I will get back to my old form, just don't want to push it too hard and re-injure myself.

Just started Crossfit last week after a Special Forces guy I know recommended it. I let myself get way out of shape after I left the active Army and trying to get back in shape since I am in the Guard now. Heroes week kicked my behind, but these are the best workouts I have had in a long time.

Cindy:

14 rounds plus 5 pull-ups and 5 push-ups

did this in my dorm room...did pull-ups by holding onto handles of over head cabinets. When I do this my arms aren't locked into a single position since they're holding onto swinging doors so I'm not sure if pull-ups this way are easier or harder than on a straight bar where my arms wouldn't be able to move while doing them. Either way good work out, my first Cindy.

Ah, this was my very first WOD back in March. I couldn't move my arms for about three weeks as I was so out of shape. In fact, it wasn't until July that I started with CrossFit full time after that experience! I have no idea how many rounds I did then, but I remember the thought that I might die, and that was with jumping PU.

15 rounds + 5 PU, 10 Push Ups, and 8 squats.

PU were fairly strict for first 10 rounds or so. Mixed in some kipping after that. Also, somewhere in there I suppose some of my push-ups were not quite to the deck if I am being fair.

Did on vacation on a sloped bar that was cushioned.

First time since before knee surgery in March.
29 rds 5 pullups. First time doing with butterfly kip. First 3 rounds :28 secs. Not sure if it was because I was at sea level (although hungover)or if the butterfly kip was that powerful.

Less than last time but last time I was new to CrossFit and probably did not have the range of motion to count most reps back then. This is a true number. Pull-ups and squats unbroken weak on Push-ups.

WANTED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SAW THIS WOD ON THE COMPETITIVE FITNESS AZ.

100 95# SQUATS, EVERY MINUTE STOP DOING SQUATS AND DROP AND DO 5 PUSH UPS AND 10 SITUPS.
THIS TOOK ME 7:43.

I COULD HAVE BEEN FASTER BUT I HAD TO CLEAN THE WT FROM THE GROUND AT THE START OF EACH SET, SO I THINK I COULD HAVE GOTTEN IT 30-60 SECONDS FASTER. IT WAS A FUN WOD BUT NOT AS INTENSE AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. MAY NEED TO GO HEAVIER NEXT TIME, 115# OR 135# WITH NO CLEANS.
