this is gonna be SOOOOO FUN!! YES!! I think I'm getting too attached to pullups/pushups/situps/squats/dips and that kinda thing now. I gotta work on my deadlifts, muscleups, HSPU, backsquat, and oly lifts more... not to mention thrusters and other shoulder-press-ish stuff... Oh well I'm gonna enjoy this WOD!!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Frank M/17/162/5'10" at October 3, 2008 8:23 PM

I know "Lone Survivor" has been mentioned here many times. I just finished it today. It is just incredible. I am so glad that I payed full price for it. Seriously. If Marcus made a million dollars from the sale of that book, it would not be enough. I have done "Murph" several times before, but knowing what I know now, the next one will be a bit more special.

Comment #18 - Posted by: drew-ct m/24/180 at October 3, 2008 8:50 PM

Can you break things up? For example, could you do 5 pullups, then 30 pushups, then 5 more pull ups, then the 40 situps, then 5 more pullups, then the 50 squats, then the final 5 pull ups? Or would this be cheating?

Comment #19 - Posted by: Kyle at October 3, 2008 8:53 PM

Very excited for this one, if it wasn't for this site my summers of training would be brutal

Comment #20 - Posted by: 2Lt Scanlan at October 3, 2008 8:56 PM

Oh yeah and Kyle, I think you have to do them all at once before moving on to the next set or else it would say partition as needed in the instructions.

Agree with 15 about Lone Survivor...one of the best books I have read..read cover to cover...couldn't put it down.

This is gonna be absolute hell. Missed Wednesday's WOD so I filled in "Rest Day" with 200x135# back squats for time. Dunno how well Barb is gonna appreciate that.

Comment #30 - Posted by: Billy at October 3, 2008 9:41 PM

Ooh goody, I was looking to come back with a bang.

So, Dubai was fun. I spent most of the time in the sandbox just happy to be off the ship. Now it's time for me to sing a little styx to myself... "i'm sailing away!" It's cool though, it was a nice break. I did a little carb indulgence, if you will... totally not Zone, BUT I made up for it with lack of exercise, lol. At least I probably sweated more just sitting there than some workouts will get me, lol. All in all, good times. I don't know if any of the Marine's providing security are crossfitters, but on that chance, shoutout to them. They did a great job and I can't thank them enough for standing post to protect a bunch of drunken sailors. I had at one point in time contemplated buying them a beer, but then I realized that they probably wouldn't have been able to drink it. Nonetheless... good group of guys.

Can't wait to kill myself on this one. Thank god I stopped myself drinking early so I'm not amongst the hungover masses, lol.

Grab the Kool Aid and GET SOME!

People, take a look at the archives of old workouts that have been added to the site. Besides awesome workouts and motivational pictures, you can't help but notice how few comments there are on each workout. You will also see that the comments left are totally relevant to the WOD, and 9 times out of 10 are the persons score. There are so many worthless comments on these comment boards I can't stand it anymore. Now, I realize that the Crossfit community has grown significantly and there are more members now then ever. I've been training with Crossfit for years and rarely post anything. I have a notebook where I store my scores and can consult to see if I performed better or worse with each attempt at a certain workout. Please, please, please for the sake of my workouts, stop posting such worthless nonsense. Nobody cares about hungover Marines or how Dubai was. Also, WTF is up with these clowns posting their name/ranks? Notice they're junior grade officers. I wouldn't be surprised if they were typing on their wireless laptops as they were trying to walk thru a gathering of enlisted folks to try and score some salutes. Enough with that as well. Anyway, my rant is over. I don't care who is bothered by this, just like you don't care how much crap you post about everything but the workout. AND... lastly, just because you have been to this site, or completed (or attempted to complete) a Rx'd workout, you are NOT a fitness elitist. I am so sick of everyones "down with globo gym" and "if it's not xfit jesus hates you" attitudes. How about some quiet professionalism and just plan courtesy. All right, I'm done.

Comment #33 - Posted by: Matt at October 3, 2008 10:00 PM

Comment #34 - Posted by: Kenno at October 3, 2008 10:05 PM

Another worthless comment to get under Matt's skin

I can't stand building online communities, I wish people would just post numbers, no other comments are ever needed. I don't want to hear success stories or places where people workout where other people are just trying to survive, who are those folks anyway...

By the way, yesterday was the anniversary of TF Ranger, Griz, we miss your leadership.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Comment #37 - Posted by: Billy at October 3, 2008 10:49 PM

I'm assuming "squats" is your plain vanilla air squat as shown in the demos section... e.g. no weight.

Comment #38 - Posted by: Nick at October 3, 2008 10:56 PM

Oh man, so excited for this one!

Goal: get all 20 pull ups each time unbroken!

Good Luck everyone!!

Comment #39 - Posted by: sarah at October 3, 2008 11:01 PM

Matt,

You know there are spreadsheets that are available in the FAQ's section that can be used to track your scores if the board is too cluttlered for you. That's what I use for tracking and it is great. As for the board, I enjoy reading some of the comments.

Comment #40 - Posted by: Stewie at October 3, 2008 11:13 PM

Matt,

I also keep a record of my personal workouts to keep comparing myself to, but when i do visit this board, it's not to look at other people's numbers, but at all the interesting messages that people leave. As Billy wrote, there's the strength of an online community.

Comment #41 - Posted by: Joe at October 3, 2008 11:33 PM

Billy #37,
You must be an 'old timer' to remember Griz [we were in Somalia together], Nate was my commo man [first man killed in Afghanistan] and Cole, one of my team leaders who died in the Pentagon attack.
Good to remember the quiet professional heros.
Cheers, Paul

Comment #42 - Posted by: Paul sofasia at October 3, 2008 11:40 PM

Comments (the sheer #) have outgrown the comfort zone. The community has outgrown the format here so that now you can't quickly check scores for ceratin leaders/competitors. Big diff b/w 300 comments (mostly scores) & 600 comments (w/ xtra chatter).

Matt has a valid point. Some people seem to think we all care about where they went last weekend or where they're going this weekend. They post their thoughts & name drop like this is their personal blog. I wouldn't want to revert so scores alone though. We need to meet somewhere in the middle. Balance is key ... and so is common courtesy.

warmup - Cindy sprint (Chest-to-bar) - 3 rds - 1:44, static holds (30 sec): wall squat, handstand, plank, L-sit

5x5 back squats
135, 185, 205, 225, 225 - Not really feeling it, worked on form.

Comment #43 - Posted by: InfidelSix at October 3, 2008 11:51 PM

For pull ups does it have to be a certain way (i.e. palms facing out, palms facing in) or can I mix it up to hit the pull ups from every angle?

I find it ironic that the very thing your rant about you contribute to. By the way didn't you know that all of us officers just walk around all day trying to score salutes. At the end of the week we all get together in the O'Club and the high score gets a free 96. Dude get serious.

#13 Ooohrah!

#48 I feel you man! They're killing not just my time, but my body too!

Maybe I shouldn't have paced myself on this one. I burnt myself out after round three.
Don't have a stopwatch yet, but I powered through the first three rounds like nothing. Boom, boom, boom, boom and boom! Rest 3 min and repeat.
Now if I paced myself I probably could have gone all five rounds for a decent time...

#33 Matt,
"blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah". If you don't like the commentaries by others, don't read them. Plain and simple. You forget, this is a community. You can either embrace the new members, regardless if they meet your criteria as elite athletes or not, or you can be an embittered loner refusing to making a connection with someone who wants to better themselves.
And #51 hit the nail on the head in regards to your view of officers, regardless of their branch of service; "Dude, get serious."

Comment #55 - Posted by: Team-G at October 4, 2008 3:13 AM

Question, so for the push ups can you do different types of push ups for different sets, like one normal, one with your feet on a bench etc.

Also for pull ups I almost always do straight arm, non kipping, and when the reps are up I use an assist machine, any idea what weight lvl / % body weight I should use?

Good Morning all,

I performed another Brisbane site WOD as follows:

“Chelsea”
Each minute, on the minute, for 30 minutes complete a round of:-

5 pullups
10 pushups
15 squats

Complete as many rounds as possible.

Performed all 30 rounds with 27 seconds left in each minute time using the kipping pull to chest I finally figured out how to perform.

Totals
150 Pull Ups
300 Push Ups
450 Squats

Billy, I haven't updated the blog in over a month now, but I'm guessing that must've been a link to a Valley Crossfit vid. Mike likes to use those to keep things fun & challenging. 95# barbell cleans, shoulder presses, & OHS's are a whole different animal on a Indo board.

I really need to update that blog - I'm getting a lot of nagging. Thanks for checking it out.

Did Barbara and all rounds were approximately 1 minute over my prior PR Barbara of 2/19/2007. This was a really poor performance. A lot of this is due to a rusty engine from the summer spent doing heavy lifting. Also there's been a ton of stress recently - just read the headlines.

Comment #108 - Posted by: Collin at October 4, 2008 8:20 AM

If someone struggles to do even 10 pull-ups (or for that matter, 30 push-ups, say after 3 rounds), how do you propose one scale the workout? Make the exercise easier (assisted chin-ups or incline push-ups) or just take WAY more time to complete the workout? I always wonder which way option is better, also and especially (not in this case) when dealing with a set weight on the barbell...

Thank you

"People, take a look at the archives of old workouts that have been added to the site. "

I'm with Matt on this one. and have been giving this a bit of thought.

There is far too much social posting on the main page, and far too many "ooh, this is going to hurt" me too posts. Personally, I'd prefer it if posters:

1. Posted their workouts only
2. Quit moaning about the workouts
3. Stopped pre-posting BEFORE they did the actual workout
4. Quit mentioning Pukie as if he were you BFF

The sheer number of pointless and social posts are why I choose not to post here (or on the message board) much anymore. This ain't facebook, people.

Have a nice day.

CF uses the term "Mid-line Stabilization" as a replacement for simple Abs work. To me, the toughest MLS exercise is O/H Squats, so you could do a number of lighter-weighted O/H squat reps, or you could also do thrusters, which work the core quite well too. Also, knees-to-elbows and L-seat w/paralettes work too.

If you're not familiar with these, watch the vids and focus on breath control and 'staying tight.'

Comment #126 - Posted by: Mark at October 4, 2008 9:17 AM

I have the York bar and I must say it is totally legit. I also have the Pendlay Mens Weight Lifting Bar & Womans Crossfit Bar; they have a bit more whip, but all around the York bar is much better quality and feels worlds better doing DL's & squats. The finish is great too, it seems like it will truely last a lifetime. I bought a bunch of York stuff & that was my favorite piece out of everything!!

First time I've been reasonably satisfied with my CF performance in a while and was thrilled to pound out 20 consec pull-ups on first two rounds. That being said, still don't do full ROM on squats since hurting back--only go to parallel.

1 2'54"
2 2'51"
3 3'10"
4 3'29"
5 3'45"

Also the first time in a long time I've been to a globo-gym. Visiting wife in Atlanta, went to LA fitness. Big hulk was working out on a row of machines facing the cardio equipment in an overt attempt to show for the ladies. Hulk did pull-ups only halfway down to where his arms bended 90 degrees at elbow, did push-ups going up and down about two inches, and used a curl machine to perform a rocking motion to jerk the handle up, and even so, only went halfway.

Also enjoyed my bike partner. I cooled down for about 10 minutes on a bike at a slow pace to recover from my CF workout. I might have otherwise blacked out trying to walk to my car, even after lying on my back for a few after the last round. About two minutes in, a 50-something hops onto the bike next to me and starts pedaling at a frantic pace. He was constantly looked over at my computer, and then left even before I finished my cool down.

Nuff' said. Thank God for crossfit. Since finishing OCS, I wanted to combine intense muscular endurance I had at OCS with the strength training and distance running I used to do. CF combines the best of all the above. Had it not been for you, I might still be a globo-gym knucklehead.

For those irritated with 'having' to read others pointless posts:
Step 1: Don't read them.
Step 2(a): Find the scroll wheel on your mouse and give it a good 'Price is Right' whirl.
Step 2(b): Stone-age users and Mac users (no scroll wheel) position the little arrow on the bar to the right of your screen and click like mad.
Note: After post 200 or so the BS stops and you will mostly find productive posts with times.
Step 3: Find a tissue or E-tool to get the sand out of..well..never mind.
Step 4: If you really need to vent, find a nice chat room and discuss something that matters, like the economy or the war on terror.
Step 5: Have a nice day.

I did mine on a tree branch though, so I know that made the pulls ups harder. I also used an Olympic bar for the squats since a year ago I was 45 pounds heavier. These times were still pathetic and weak.

I've been spreading the word about Crossfit to anyone who will listen here at training. Be back soon.

Comment #169 - Posted by: MISSING CROSSFIT at October 4, 2008 10:30 AM

didn't do Barb today... went to Jeannie's Beach Crossfit in VaBeach and we did "F$%@ Your Buddy." That entails a 300 meter run, tire pull, and tire flip in as many rounds in 20 minutes as possible. There were 3 of us (me,Skip & TattooNick) and we completed 6 rounds. It's a relay type WOD where we switch stations when the runner gets back from the run.
Personal comment: I was dry-heaving during the runs. AWESOME!!!
Thanks Jeannie and JroCk!

Re: off-topic comments-
It would be cool if we could have a form that was strictly for reporting as RX'd times and weights so that we could interpret the data a little easier. People could always cheat, but at least it would help separate the raw data from the people with colorful things to say. Personally, I enjoy reading the comments about the WOD because it gives me some expectation of what it will be like. I also use the comments as my training journal, and record what went well and what didn't, so that I (and others) will have a better sense of the workout.

Peace.

Scaled to Pack:
“Barbara lite”

Five rounds, each for time of:
10 Pull-ups (blue Iron Woody assisted Band)
20 Push-ups
30 GHD Sit-ups
40 Squats

Rested precisely three minutes between each round.

RD 1: 5:10
RD 2: 6:57
RD 3: 8:03
RD 4: 8:53
RD 5: 7:35

Pulls and Pushs were not the problem. PS I've worked all the way down to the blue band for pull ups which I count as a small victory, the blue band allows you to work on your kipp more too.

I know the GHD Sit ups were a bad call. But I wanted to do them, f my times I wanted to really smoke my "core" so I did. GHDs and squats were the only thing I had to break up, your hip flexors are so done after all those GHDs that the squats were killer and I had no hip snap, but I never down graded to vanilla sit ups and I really wanted to, again a small victory.

Did you hear Coach Castro! All you folks doing two-a-day benchmark WOD, you are either mutants or your intensity is f'd up!

Vindication! Insecurities assuaged! Maybe I won't cry myself to sleep tonight...maybe?

Whatever, I kid, I kid, do what your body can afford, and God Bless you.

DCJ,
Wow, hatred. Are you OK? Did you have a bad day? I'm here for you.

I once posted a very similar post however as most responded to me, "calm down" and "smile more."

Look, I took the "6" out of my pen name, do you feel better? I didn't do it to wear my rank on my sleeve, I did it for solidarity, awareness, wittiness, trust me living on a FOB 24/7 I'm sick of saluting people. Pretentious maybe, So just for you and your highly original Monogram-esque screen name I'll drop it. Better for OPSEC anyway.

This site is what it's supposed to be, a forum. Your socialist bent regarding the content of this site is very...elitist. Ironic since you rail against alleged Crossfit snobbery.

If Coach and the powers that be wanted this site to be anything other than what it is they'd make us register and sign in then kick us out if we posted off topic.

I know, I know the dumb questions from noobs that can't be suffered to read the f'ing Exercises or FAQ pages are grating on my nerves too but I've grown to tolerate them, kinda what America's all about; Freedom of Speech and Tolerance of others. If you want Stoic, Succinct, Boring posts, move to Russia or better yet, relax, have a drink and get layed.

God Bless You DCJ...cause I'm not,

For those out there who feel the need to share their weekend excursions, personal life, etc... there are message boards on xfit for that- look on the left hand side of the main page. Click on message boards and find one that fits your need to socialize!

just a constructive point out...there is always a middle solution. why cant there be two comment links? one is simply set up in a format like excel where you input name of WOD, time or sets, and weight, etc. THEN have a discussion post for that day. That way we don't have "stop posting" on one side and "shut up i will too post" on the other. Lets not forget we all are Crossfitters....which I mean it cant get better than that...

It is very interesting to me that the longest comments today are from two people who hate comments. So DCJ comment 120, and Matt comment 33, please shorten your posts, it's distracting.

If you troll the posts for any more than a short period of time, you'll definitely run into the good folks at http://www.logsitall.com

Right now, logsitall.com is updating their server. That is a place were crossfitters post only basic, basic information, like scores for WODs and information about height, weight, sex, etc. in a database environment. The cool part is that its completely searchable and you can create your own queries and there's no crosstalk, just stats. For all you non-chatty people, logsitall.com is a quiet piece of heaven.

Brand X Saturday AM

We did a birthday workout for JDG today in the Saturday AM class at Brand X

I don’t recall seeing him there hmmmm....

3 rounds

9 Power cleans
19 Pull ups
69 Squats

I didn’t see any scaling on the board but GD scaled folks weights as appropriate.

I used 95 pounds and got the first five cleans out of the gate without even resetting my grip. That was cool.

I enjoy reading the comments, its good to see that other people struggle and scale and some of them just make me laugh.

WOD Barbara

Pull ups with band and Push ups on knees.

Round 1 - 5.12
Round 2 - 5.21
Round 3 - 6.23
Round 4 - 4.53
Round 5 - 3.31 (crunches instead of sit ups as gym was closing).

3 min rest between each round.

Felt ill after this. Still feel sick a couple of hours after.

My husband came to the gym today. He is more of a runner but wanted to try a wod. I gave him filthy fifty to do. (I thought it would be a nice wedding anniversay present for him. It is good to see I can still take his breath away after 16 years). Thanks Peter for the pood and medicine ball. Hope you remembered to pick them up from the door?

Husband time 37 min 55 sec

I had good fun don't know if my husband did.

All of the comments about what to or what not to post:
If it were your site you could change it. It is not.
If you were high up there in the CF rank you may have influence. You do not.
They do however have sites for you to piss and moan about everyhting in the world that you feel is wrong and you can try and do whatever sort of terroist like actions you need to take.
Fact. Bitch, or don't...nothing is going to change. If you do not like the way the posts are, the people on them, the layout, the backround color or the frickin tone in my post right now...then I say either suck it up and move on or get off of here. YOUR whining is a waste of space that gives someone like me who is feeling punchy an opportunity to slay you a bit.
Listen dorothy(S), put on your big girl panties, post what you have to post even if you need a whole slab of cheese to go with you adolescent whine, and move on.
I love when you guys start posting? bingo, ken c, allison nyc.......want to piggyback!

can anyone offer some advice so I can save my hands? I know the whole, "suck it up and keep going" which is what I did but now my hand is pretty much worthless and I have to do pull ups with my finger tips.

Hey Coach, how about a board for the workouts and a separate board for chit chat? Just a thought. That said, this is still by far the best thing going in fitness and we are all lucky to have it, for free no less.

#281 Bingo,
There was no lament in my post regarding the absence of the "big names", simply an observation which may or may not be an indication of how sick many are becoming of these "social posts".

Also for the record, the majority of affiliate sites you mention invite one to "post comments" where as the main site asks for "loads/times/rounds etc."

And yes, I do realize that I am falling prey to the same behaviour about which I am complaining and I am cringing as I type this for that very reason.

All that said, I always enjoy your musings. At least you have something intelligent to say.

No ill will on this side :-)

Warm-up: 100 SU + 50 DU; CFWU (w/2 PU & 2 dips) – 3 rnds.

As Rx: 2:53 – 3:05 – 3:46 – 4:30 – 4:48

Cool-down: hamstrings stretching; foam roll.

Strict pull-ups; chest & thighs to floor push-ups; bent-knee anchored sit-ups; 11-inch box squats. All but the first round was slower than last time. But last time I did kipping PU.

MY NEMESIS! First time I did this in Dec ’07, I met Mr. Pukie for the first and only time. Second time against Barbara, in Mar ’08, it was all I could do to fight him off. This time, after having more than my share of a Chinese buffet, I felt a little nauseous before even starting the WOD. By R5, I could feel Mr. Pukie peeking around the corner. A few minutes of struggle after the WOD and I was forced to return my extra share of oriental cuisine. Blah!

This is a PB compared to May this year (19:25 total) and I think that's mostly due to the fact that I anchored my sit-ups. I find I can finish a set of 40 faster with my feet anchored although I may have to stop a few times. My push-ups are still suffering and I didn't do one set of them unbroken, unfortunately, because that really ate into my time. Pukie chased me the last 3 rounds...

Comment 216, Matt:
"#33 and #120 are getting really butthurt over nothing. As long as people post their work out times in a clear and concise manner it shouldn't matter if they add comments about said work out. Some of the comments are cool to read, and other give me insight on what to expect. So shut up with your elitist "do as I say" attitude. You don't own crossfit. You're all just morons."

Matt: I have no problem at all with people posting comments after they post up times. What I don't really care for is all the pre-workout posturing, and some of the social posting.

My opinion. Feel free to disagree with a well crafted argument or insightful comment. I actually read the comments of most of those that disagreed with me and respect them for their opinion.

What I don't respect: telling me to "shut up", calling me an "elitist" and a "moron" (and other similar comments). Just plain childish, and reduces the effectiveness of your (and other's) arguments to zero.

My intent was not to troll. Nor am I a socialist, Charlatan 0 :-) I honestly prefer to be able to scroll through the posts and look at peoples times, (the majority of which are better than mine). Feel free to disagree.

Take care.

Me: 42yo/M/5'10"/171lbs/10.5%BF

Warm Up: Greg A's Warm Up + HSPU, 15 reps per exercise.

WOD: Barbara, total time: 22:42

round 1: 3:48
Round 2: 4:07
Round 3: 4:58
Round 4: 4:58
Round 5: 4:36

Cooldown: About 20 minutes of tumbling drills and handstands. My best handstand was about 30 seconds, getting better.

I am always interested about certain aspects of certain named WODs, Barbara is one of them. I do not completely understand why Barbara invokes so many comments about having an upset stomach or actually puking when doing Barbara. The gastro-intestinal comments are disproportunately large compared to other named WODs. Fight gone bad certainely evokes more horror in the mind of most crossfitters, myself included, but it does not elicit the same "pukie hit me in the Jimmy" feeling and I don't know why. Today I felt ill enough to impact my cool down, which is, for the moment lots of gymnastics because its challenging and fun. If anyone knows why Barbara makes so many people sick to their stomach, I would like to know.

Billy

Breakfast made an unwanted encore appearance between the pullups and pushups in the 4th round, which cost a couple of minutes.

Did Barbara at the start of my second week of CFing in March 2008, and had to stop after three rounds -- that took 34:35 and I had to switch from situps to crunches in the third round.

Billy, my opinion on why Barbara invokes so much of Pukie is due to the last minute blood shunting goin on with the squats. The primary movers involved with the squat are such huge muscles that they require as much blood as possible to be shunted from the upper body straight to the lower body, this causes that head spinning love that pukie uses as foreplay.

Will do the "Barbara" on Sunday; did CF Endurance workout Saturday:

Running 1min on, 1 min off, 1 min on, 50 sec off, 1 min on, 40 sec off, 1 min on, 30 sec off, 1 min on 20 sec off, 1 min on, 10 sec off, then going back up the ladder and finishing with 1 min on, 50 sec off, 1 min on.

Ran on 1/7 mile lap track at my gym. Stopwatch was screwy (starting/ stopping by itself), so had to guesstimate a few times. Completed 1.5 laps (3/14 mile) at longer-rest start/ end of workout, gradually reducing to just over one lap (1/7 mi) in the middle and increasing back to 1.5 at the end. Total distance: 14 laps = 2 miles. Total running time = 11 minutes.

Lucas Atkins Australia, comment 373,

Thanks for the thoughts on as to why Barbara causes so many people to feel sick to their stomach.

I can believe that it is because there is a rapid shift in blood flow from the upper trunk area to the legs as you go from the first three exercises to the squats. Good theory, that would explain why FGB would not cause the same feeling because FGB alternates from the core to the legs but the primary drivers of FGB are the legs the entire time.

I was also thinking that the three minute rest allowed you to almost fully recover, and that would make you try to hit the same number every time making you work harder therefore closer to throwing up.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

And for the record, if you have no interest in readin peoples times or comments then why even open the comments section?

Personally I like to skim through and see other peoples times after I have done my WOD to see how I did as I don't have any workout partners so I use it as motivation. I usually can't be bothered reading the random comments but you'll find that the second half of the comments section is usually almost 100% times and scores.

Yesterday I participated in my first 10k road race. Not my first 10k mind, but my first race. Obviously my body is not recovered yet as my rounds from this WOD looked something like this:

1 - 4:43 (fine)
2 - 6:15 (feeling a little queezy and getting a shinsplint-type pain down my right shin on the squats)
3 - 8:00 (feeling very queezy and leg is hurting a helluva lot more)
4 - Pukie
5 - swift cab ride home

First time I've quit a WOD and I hated it, but you've got to listen to your body right? Too bad my body is a p*ssy.

Okay, I'm an idiot.. I did this wrong:

I did this with no rest, and the people I was training felt like they weren't running enough lately... kinda irritated me, so I through this in:

800m run
Barbara (but no rest, cuz I forgot)
800m run

took me 41 minutes total and the hurt was bad..LOL

sooo.. I figure 10minutes for the run (was pretty slow) then 12 minutes for the rest (3 x 4?, don't count rest after last set)

41 - 22 = 19:00 total?? LOL.. I dunno

First time subbing the GHD's - made a huge difference. My last Barbara had round times ranging from 3:14-4:47. On this one, with the GHD's, by round 4 I was just trying to finish. Subbing GHD's puts Barbara up there with Murph, Linda, and FGB in my book.

I rolled over my foot coming down from catching a football right before hitting this workout. No breaks, but my peroneal tendon is pulled and the side of my foot is black and blue and still tender. I want to jump on this, but I'm trying to be smart enough to allow myself to heal. See you all in a couple of days.

Only did 3 rounds before my pick-up bball game started, but enjoyed those 3 thoroughly.

2:45/3:15/3:30

pullups were easy part, but by 3rd round I just made it without breaking the set.
pushups i thought would be easy, but had to break starting in 2nd round. i suppose it was the pullups that killed the arms slightly and made pushups harder.
situps were fine.
squats i tried to go real fast and was forced to break every 15-20, then on later rounds slowed it down a bit and was able to go 30-35 each round.

My time total of 29:04 was more than 7.5 minutes better than last time. However, it's not official because I got well more than 3 minutes rest on last round because I saw an old acquaitenance I hadn't seen for a long time and had to speak with him for more than 3 minutes! Split the pullups to protect my tennis elbow; may have helped me be stronger for pushup component.

Psysched about continued improvement on this one.

Second two just sucked and by the last round; the push ups were head twitches, the sit ups were neck curls, pull-ups were me just jumping up and down on a box and my squats haha well lets just say I had to be dragged into the locker room by the gym owner, OH how I love Barbara.

Work out time= 24:19
Total Time=34:30 so I didnt exactly rest the full three mins time crunch

This workout was awesome...I felt very accomplished after this one.

As Rx'd

1 hour 6 min.

Note:

I started kipping a bit to finish the pull-ups by the third round.

Also, it took me several sets for each station to finish the round but I got through it.

first time trying crossfit, but have been working out hard on my own.
I was doing crunches instead of sit ups so I'm not sure how much that will throw off my numbers.

Last time: 2:50, 2:47, 4:40, 4:15, 2:47

This time: 2:21, 2:14, 2:12, 2:13, 2:49 PB!

I only do regular half sit ups-but it was the same I did last time. All but last set unbroken, had to stop at 13,then 17 reps on hang ups.

2. 3:51
3. 4:10
4. 4:08
5. 5:01 (pullups killed me since I had just done a pretty heavy back and biceps day yesterday)

This was my first day ever of CrossFit so I picked one that could be easily done in my apartment with a stout pullup bar. Sorry it wasn't actually today's WOD.
This was hard, particularly the pullups, and especially after an hour of muay thai. Good stuff though. I'm glad I found this site! These workouts are great in that they don't take up too much time but are still very challenging.

have a blessed day,
Reid

Hi from germany:
1. 3.18
2. 4.07
3. 5.15
4. 6.36
5. 7.47

Question, are your pull-ups these "butterfly pull-ups"? Always do normal ones, no fan of the swinging version.

Comment #683 - Posted by: Moritz at January 31, 2009 8:54 AM

5:47, 7:02, 8:50 (only 3 full rounds)
