if i put together the past two wods rolled into one + 5 sets of 3 bench today due to work, do you think i will be ok tomorrow? Also, if I weigh 220 lbs, what would my weight be for the excercises for linda? I think i have my figures, i just want to make sure i'm reading it correct. thanks for your responses in advance.

I'm going to Arkansas next week!

A long time ago someone sent me an email saying that if I'm ever in Arkansas he'd brush his tooth, put on this shoe and do a workout with me. I can't remember his name.. and it could have been Kentucky.

But if you're out there drop me a line!

Gillian is awesome. I got to do that workout with her and let me tell you it was inspiring to say the least. She's a gifted, natural athlete, great trainer and a really cool person to hang with.

After that day I didn't think I'd ever want to do Linda again. I'm still not walking right..

I have a good excuse not to do it! I'm going to my Grandparents 50th Anniversary party tomorrow. I'll be doing a run in PA instead.

Can't wait to see the vid. You rock Gillian.

btw, i know most of you probably think it's ignorant to consider a third party, however, most people thought it ignorant to oppose England, to free slaves, to allow women equal rights, and even to "lift" crossfit style. i think we can all see the benefits of each...check it out.

What Peter? I dont doubt that it's a tough workout. I just figured we might be doing some running since earlier this week was heavy lifting. Thats why I thought I could get away with lifting today. It's pretty typical of me to lift in the morning, then go ahead and do the wod, no matter what i lifted and/or have to do.

I think you should do the work outs your strength coach advises you to do during the season. I was a college football player, I just maintaned some weight training during the season so my muscles would not atrophy. Doing an intense work out like crossfit, could be over trainig along with practice and games when you need to be fresh to be competative. Also, injuries happen if you dont get enough rest when your an athlete. If you are a redshirt, or not going to see the court this year, you might get away with it. What I would do, is put myself in best position to succeed by getting after it every day at practice and after practice weights. Although crossfit is great, you jeopardise performance on the court if your going all out on your wods. You have put your work in, it sounds like in the off season. Now go get you a spot on the team.

Wow. Just started crossfit. A couple of questions.

1) I weigh 195, and my bench blows. I can't rep 195 10 times. So is it cool if I do a few, put the bar on the rack, do a few more, etc. as long as I keep the clock going?

2) My fiance has started doing crossfit with me. She weighs 125. There is no way she could bench 125 even once, and she definately can't deadlift 185. How can we adjust it so she can do this workout with me? I definately don't want her to think she has to sit this one out. After all we started crossfit so we could workout together.

Any advice would be great thanks everyone!

Gunning for under 20 min this time around. First time I did it in 30 and change. 2nd time with Power Cleans was in 21 minutes, after doing Heavy Fran and Jackie 3 hours beforehand.

I almost got to be your judge at CrossFit games in the DL/Burpee WOD. I was psyched, but they made a last minute switch and I wasn't your judge. Being a former Hooper (long before the invention of Crossfit), I say Yes, keep doing the workouts as Rx. You are going to be running your tail off so sub any major running workouts with practice time. It'll pay off. You are just going to have to make sure that you keep your protein intake at a HUGE level to prevent breakdown.

I apologize, I put my comment out prior thinking the whole thing through. Depending on your situation, whether you are getting playing time or working to get there. If your coach has you doing specific workouts, do what they expect. you can sub the major exercises, Pullups, dips, etc for your after practice training. You probably won't be going at it 7 days a week, so work a Crossfit WOD in on your day off. Keep your nutrition up, and rest is key, it's a long season.

I sympathize with you my bench also sucks. Fortunatly no one to my knowlege has had to bench press someone out of harms way. The way I understand it there is 2 ways to deal with this problem. If you want to work on strength (it will improve your max) keep the rx'ed weight and break it up as needed with as much time as needed (no more than 5 min between sets). This will test you and your nervous system. your strength will improve. If you and your wife want more of a cardio benefit (you are more interested in losing weight than gaining stregth) then scale back to a weight that you can do the whole set with out reracking or seting down the weight. I hope I answered your question. If anyone else has a better answer for this problem feel free to chime in. Im reletivly new to crossfit.

Yes, you can set the bar down as many times as is necessary to complete the workout. For workouts that do not allow breaking up of sets it will be indicated on the main page.Normally breaking up sets is fine, but it kills your time.
For your fiance just scale back the weights and keep the format. Scale it to 3/4X bodyweight deadlift, 1/2 bodyweight bench press,and 3/8 bodyweight for clean. If she needs to go lighter than do so, its pretty much a judgment call on weight.

Having said that, it's still most certainty strength based!

Sadly had to miss the squat and deads, and will miss todays too, 'cos I'm ill.

First time doing Linda, and first time doing Cleans. The first 3 sets of all exercises took me half an hour, haha. Wasn't able to do a full set of deadlift/bench/cleans without resting until I got down to 4. Cleans worked me over good. I watched the video under the Exercises page but couldn't quite get that perfect clean-squat movement that the girl in the video did. My thighs never got below parallel... maybe I wasn't using enough weight or something, but after the second set my pulse was already over 160.

Increasing the load (obviously) made a huge difference in the time. My last "as rx'd" Linda was 30:10. The bench press and power cleans weren't that bad with the increased load, but the dead lifts were extremely taxing.

ok...so i am still new to CF and am definately not full CF material yet...

Planned on doing 75% of the weight. After the first two rounds my back started siezing up, so I dropped my DL weight and reduce my sets.

Deadlift - 90kg x10/9, but dropped to 60kg for x5/4/3/2/1
Bench - 60kg, x10/9/5/4/3/2/1
Clean - 45kg, x10/9/5/4/3/2/1
25 minutes

Was excited and nervous driving to the gym. Great workout. I'll do better next time!!

Regarding the timing of this WOD - any other day I would be ecstatic about doing Linda, but this seems like a strange choice after doing max effort squats and deadlifts on consecutive days. Another deadlift workout so soon afterwards could be counterproductive (ie., a lumbar strain or hamstring tear - I've seen them before from similar workloads) . What was the thought process in choosing this?

Hey, can we do hanging power cleans or do we need to pull from the ground each rep? and would I be worst off instead of grounding the weight every rep? Also, Barbells are a very few in our small gym on the FOB, can I substitute DBs same weight?

So here's my question, and I'd love some feedback from experienced Crossfit instructors if possible:

I started dabbling with Crossfit in January. In June, I committed to WODs as per the main site. Until this week, I think I'd only missed 2-3 WODs due to scheduling problems. I've had huge gains in strength and stamina. PB's for 5k, 10k, DL, etc.

And then this week I've crashed. I have NEVER been so debilitatingly sick. Flu, tracheitis, I don't know exactly. Roaring temps, muscle aches, etc.

I'm some time from getting back to workouts, but using my downtime to start planning a strategy.

Should I stick with 3-1-3-1 pattern, but scale every WOD? Some other approach? Would very much appreciate your thoughts.

I'm 40 this month. I weigh about 158lb, ~10% body fat. Previous background of running and swimming, but more endurance/aerobic conditioning. Minimal lifting experience. Upper body strength not great. Don't have a MU. Sh press PB is about 100lb, I think. (Have my training log on another computer.)

Was struggling but surviving through the 6-rep set, and then just crashed. Took about 5 minutes off, contemplated quitting for the day, slapped some sense into me, and then pushed through the last 5 sets (with some significant breaks though). Laughable time but pretty proud that I sucked it up to finish it without dropping weight or reps.

While Gillian is doing her wonderfully formed deadlifts, the guy on the right of the viewer (on left of Gillian) is doing deadlifts in a very bad form.

Whoever you are, take care, your back is getting rounded as hell. You can pause the scene and see the huge difference between your form and Gillians's.

I have an idea on scaling since I'm not complete satisfied with Brand X's scale plan explanation, which just says to scale weight or scale reps, vague to say the least, I know, I know it free can't complain just leaves one scratching their head and thinking "what do I do? What do I do?"

Calculate your Lean Body Mass and use that as your basis for the loads for Linda.

for instance I'm 220 but I'm also 22% body fat(I know I'm a fatty) so when you do the mass I'm only 172 pounds of muscle, a much for manageable weight for a novice like myself.

Also as an antisocial person I would never want to ask a random Joe to spot me, which I don't think would be necessary with 172 on the bar.

Seems like these manner of WOD penalize you for high body fat. To be honest I've done the zone pretty strictly(17 blocks at 220lbs as best as I can when I eat all my meals in a Cafeteria) and the WODs for a month and a half and I've only maintained my weight not a pounds difference. What's up with that? It almost leads me to believe that those people who beam about how much weight they drop when they start crossfit is because they were largely sedentary before hand and as everyone knows your going to get quicker gains in overall fitness when you start from nothing.

I mean I've bought the rings and resistance bands but this lack of weight loss that allegedly takes place makes me just want to run and run and run like a hamster on a wheel until this goo comes off my midsection. I've been a loyal drinker of the cool aide but the flavor seems off all of a sudden.

The truth is the army doesn't care how much I bench or dead if I'm over 22% and I can't run my Rx time for 2 miles they will put me in the basement, they've done it before, "welcome home hero!...oh wait you're over 22% body fat, never mind all that your a piece of trash"

What is it? Just mix the Cardio? two a days, one traditional cardio like a 5k then the WOD in the evening? Is 17 blocks too much?

and Coach how come Kettelbells are an emblem of Crossfit but we never seem to use them? b/c most don't have them? I brought them all the way here to the sand box and they are slowly collecting dust. Some nights I am tempted to do O lifts with my to 1.5 poods and leave the meatheads to fight over the one squat rack here on the FOB, but I've reading the threads and everybody seems to bash that idea.

Make me believe.

Wrist straps are frowned upon. Over time your grip will strengthen and you won't have an issue. No gloves or straps and stagger your grip.

I believe if you use straps or gloves you're actually making yourself weaker. CrossFit is about overall strength and endurance...if you can't hold on to the bar then your grip strength needs to catch up with your deadlift strength...and it will.

I had to use wrist wraps I broke my hand/wrist about a year ago forearm strength is still recovering. any other opinions about using gloves or wrist wraps? If you want to get techical chalk isnt really natural either. I dont think cave men chalked their hands before pushing a rock on a mammoth.

I played hockey in college, and I ran into a similar situation--it was before I started Crossfit, but I still wanted to workout as much as possible during the season. Chances are whatever your coach has lined up for you won't be killer workouts during the season and they won't be the day before games. I'd stick with those workouts, and try to get the CFWU in before the team workouts. Who knows, you might even get the coach interested in Crossfit and he'll have the team doing it. We always had guys who thought they didn't have to do the team workout and that just doesn't look good, which is why I recommend doing what the coach gives you (Granted, Crossfit will probably be better than anything else out there, but whatever). The video was particularly impressive since I've done Linda with those weights (scaling for me since I can't bench my bodyweight yet). It took me 20-some minutes and I was a wreck. Heart rate higher than normal (even compared to other WODs), felt dizzy even when lying down, and felt generally "off" for the next 2-3 days.

And on top of that, right when I finished, some tool came over and glared at the bench and asked, "Is that your sweat?"

BTW the scaling strategy I used (someone suggested it on the message board a couple years ago) was to pick a lower "pretend bodyweight" and base the loads on that. For safety's sake, it probably makes sense to use a "bodyweight" where you can handle the bench presses pretty easily -- don't worry, the cleans and DLs will still wipe you out.

Linda is the WOD I fear the most. The rounds of 7 and 6 reps are hardest, IMO ... keep remembering you're halfway through!

For your fiance: I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm no where near strong enough to do the Rx'd WOD. So I just did some calculations and I figure i'll shoot for 1/2 of the Rx'd weight. If it is too much i'll lower the weights during linda. It will kill my time but i think i'll be focusing more on form than time for this one anyway.

If these movements are really new to her she may even want to scale the weight to 1/3 Rx'd weight. Have her do the calculations for 1/2 & 1/3 and review what she has done in past workouts to see how they match up.

Absolutely don't try to hit a PR weight doing Linda! You want her to be able to succeed! To finish! and not to get hurt!

"Linda" was the coup de grace, completing my rotator cuff tear last summer. Makes my shoulder ache just looking at the written WOD.

Good place to talk about scaling if "as Rx'd" is too much (or if you're not MWade--Dude, who does heavy Linda? We are not worthy!). First, what's your goal today? Is it a strength day? Now, if you ask me, we just had three of those so I'd be looking for the met-con in 'Linda", but that's just me. If it's a strength day set aside an hour, pick the weight on the bench that you can safely lift without a spotter for at least 3 reps, and that's your BW for today.

Is it a met-con day? What's your 8-10 rep bench #? That's your weight for today, and all of the other weights are off of that. Still too much to clean? Drop another 10-15 #'s. It ain't really rocket science if it's your first "Linda" gang. Safety, safety, safety. She'll be back. The ultimate met-con "Linda" was posted on CFSC last year: empty oly bar (45#), never put the bar down "Linda" sprint.

Charlatan 6 #108:
6 weeks in? Easy there, fella, you're just getting going. After one year of CF, traditional split work-out including 3-4 45 min. cardio sessions/week prior, I lost exactly 2 #'s, but my %bw fat went from 21 -> 11 at 48yo, and at 151 #'s I also eat 17 blocks (high energy gerbil, I guess). Check those blocks, evaluate the quality of your carbs (less bread, pasta, rice, more veggies and fruit), 1-1.5x fat at most. If you need to work on the run add in a CFE run WOD 2x/week, either SC or LC (but not ultra distance). Rome wasn't built in a day. Keep at it, and keep the intensity of the WOD's as high as you can. I am not military, but all of those SEALs can't be wrong. We'll all be here to cheer you on.

If "Linda" is not met-con (regardless of the weight used), I don't know what is. It does say "for time". I do understand that some will need to scale down. (Yes, I agree, "Heavy Linda" is just nuts.) I just finished this here in Pennsylvania in about 99% humidity at CrossFit Generation. Definitely one of the hardest WODs.

Bench is my weakest link to Linda as well. I would be in the 20-25 min range if I could bring it up to the level of the other lifts.

Amazing video! Headed to the gym here in about an hour to meet Linda. This is one of the few I have to do at the gym because of lack of equipment.

The first rounds were the hardest, psychologically. But apparently I paced myself pretty well. I threw the numbers into a spreadsheet and did a linear regression, the R² was 0.98. Crazy. Basically a coefficient of 28 seconds per rep, with an intercept of 7 seconds. Here's a chart (w/f/s):

Ok, this was my first Linda and it got the best of me. I weight 200 pounds and did the wod as described and man! I didn't make it past the 7 set. the deadlifts did me in. I have no problem with the bench and the cleans, but those darn deadlift pretty much did me in. Yes, I know I am weeeaaaaakkkkk. but next time Linda, I got a date with you in 30 days, that I promise! its on my Calendar.

I tried to do Gillian proud by coming close to her time but no chance. She's a machine.

Bench press was the hardest for me.

Last time I did this I only did the even numbers but today I wanted to spank Linda. Unfortunately my time wasn't what I was hoping it to be. I think I took a little too much time to start the bench press rounds and too many breaks during the bench press. Boooo to that.

First time diong Linda. HAHA. Great workout, 28 minutes flat. I cut back the weights, to an amount I could do, the cleans were empty bar for the first 5 sets, added 50 lbs for last 5, 135 lbs for dead lifts for all sets, should have stepped that up after 5th set, bench was 100, should have stepped that up sooner. Non the less I completed this workout and feel awesome, I love the results I am starting to get.

This is truly one of the workouts that makes me think bad thoughts and say bad words! Even better is the look on peoples faces when they ask you what your workout is while your in the middle of it or directly after it (while trying to avoid pukey!)

Started with light stretching, then went into the WOD. Had to sub with dumb bell's due to the crowd. I used 150's for the DL, 90's for the BP, 70's for the clean. My DL's were broken set until #4 but I did them all the way to the ground. My Cleans were Power cleans.

definitely the fastest Linda, also the lightest. however, i am glad -- i concentrated on form and my low back fatigued so fast it made me a bit concerned. and for those who haven't done this WOD yet, the round of 7 reps sucks. its the hardest round to get through. but after that its downhill!

#156 Dan D, that might have been the most open ended question ever. Quick example though...

A hurricane is coming to your house and is about 3 days away. You are below sea level so you have to put sand bags around your house and other members of your families house. You work all day on your house lifting heavy sand bags to barricade your house. Now are you not going to do the same heavy lifting all day to help your family because it worked the same muscle groups as one day or two days prior? Of course you are! We train for real life, you don't always get the perfect recovery time. Do the dead lifts or don't do the dead lifts its up to you. But this stuff works.

Plus this workout is too fun to pass up!

No weights, but I found a big log and wrapped the webbing from my rings around it to do the deadlifts. I also elevated my feet on a picnic table and did PU's then box jumped on top of it.

ive been looking into cross fit. looked over the w.o.d. for about the past 2 weeks. today's workout motivated me to start. A buddy and I did it together in just over 56 minutes. we stayed with each other for spot... and morale support. I must say doing the prescribed at 185 lbs...(I actually weigh about 195) kicked my butt... thanks for the workout... looking forward to tomorrow.

OMFG This was the most brutally intense WOD since I started CrossFit 15 months ago. First time I did Linda all the way through. I felt like I'd just had to move a ton of gravel with a shovel as fast as possible.

Tony the Chiro #96--My advice: go back to doing regular WODs, with reduced intensity until you feel 100%. You wont see any personal bests for a while but that's the best way to get back into it, in my humble opinion. Your energy level will pick up again eventually. Don't worry, everyone has ups and downs, even without being sick.

Pretty pumped. I'm 190 though I've only ever been able to bench 135 if that before crossfit. I had personal trainer for about a year and a half with the goal of getting to the next level. I didn't learn anything other than personal training costs a LOT of money, so I quit with minimal results. Then my leader at work mentioned this website to me. At the time I was in a program that I was hesitant to give up, though I knew I was power lifting too much. Slowly, grudgingly, I switched over to only doing the WOD (and of course the official warmup for muscle groups not mentioned in the WOD).
Here I am about 4 months later, I have not lost any weight (better than that!) I have lost two belt loops and my strength is higher than it has ever been! I just put up 190lbs on the bench and am expecting to break 200 within a week. I've never looked this good before, about a month into it my wife said to me "You're getting really really strong" even though I couldn't see the difference back then my self. In 4 months I have reached levels with crossfit that I only dreamed of after YEARS of power lifting. Of course I was lifting to the point of being catabolic but that doesn't matter.
As an added bonus the high intensity low duration work outs make it so that my joints are not soar after grueling work outs. Please don't stop the work outs and put out some more crossfit gear so that I can show my support at the gym!

I suppose my question is to the people programming the WODs. Does Linda, this close to another DL session, increase performance or is it risky? Seriously. I know a national champion powerlifter who DLs no more than once a week. And he could destroy Linda at these weights.

Training should be to imporve performance. I am not sure this training pattern accomplishes that goal. Sure, simulating a possible real life situation is great. But that does not make the training safe or performance enhancing.

I just don't know...but my gut tells me it is to much and should be scaled because of the proximity to another heavy DL session.

Gillian inspired me to get too ambitious.

I started with this on the bars:

clean 95#

I scaled the deadlift down to 165# after the second round.

I actually upped the bench press to #100 after the fourth round

I dropped the clean to #85 after the first rep! and stopped doing full squat cleans after my knees started buckling inward during the third round.

Feel like I got a good workout at least.

Just finished. As RX'd at 190 lb BW, got through the middle of my 5th round, and went and threw up. HARD! Couldn't finish today. I know I am new to Crossfit, but DAYUM, that was a beast. I think I was at 23 minutes or so when I went and puked. Luckily I made it to a trash can. Don't think the gym management appreciated it very much.

Then unfortunately my fiance did it next. Although she scaled down in weight, she tweaked her back on cleans 4 rounds in. She was flying through it though. Better luck to us next time!

First time with Linda. Went really heavy for me on thurs WOD and my lower back was still a little sore. When I was doing Linda I was getting cramps in my lower back. I think it hurt my time. Also had to change weights on the deadlifts and the cleans (only had 2 bars). Had someone helping change the weights though. I was shooting for a time that I didn't even come close to, but the cramps were hurting so bad that I just wanted to finish. Even though I feel like my time sucked for what I expected out of me, I was proud of myself that I finished cause man those cramps hurt. Feel good now though ( now that's over). Crossfit Rocks.

I only have 2 bars, so time includes moving the bench and changing weight between Bench and Squat Cleans. That said, I'm not sure how much I'd improve if I had a 3rd bar and didn't have to switch - still spent too much time keeled over between rounds.

Gillian's 15 minutes is pretty impressive - it takes some monster stamina to blow through this WOD with only a 1-2 breath break every few rounds.

Weight was fine for cleans, though from the looks of the comments I should've been getting into a full squat at the end. Bench weight was fine.

I GOT OWNED. This is my hardest workout for sure. I need to strength train. My deadlifts were decent, my squat cleans were pretty good, my bench was HORRIBLE. Once I dropped the weight on myself I knew I was done.

Dead-250, Bench-165, Squat Clean-130.

10,9,8 in 41 mins and I just couldn't go anymore.

Just getting back into it after a three month break from all exercise. Was disappointed overall here, especially as I had to lower the weight of the deadlift.

Strength wise the deadlift was the hardest, benchpress was easy, and clean wasn't a problem strength wise, but the clean really kicked my butt cardiovasicularly. Most disappointg of all my form sucked. Just couldn't keep my back straight on the deadlift.

not fun...i did the 3-3-3-3-3 deadlift last night, and then attempted this one 13 hours later. Let's just say I learned the importance of rest this morning when I got to the round of 6 and couldn't stand up...

This is a minute faster than my best time which was done with much less weight.

Learned a lesson today: ALWAYS check your bars before you attempt to lift them. No matter how close you have been to them!

Around round 6 I jumped on the bench, set my hands and lifted and the bar went flying up on the right. Some yahoo took all of the plates off of the right side of my bar! Well I had to stop to find plates and guy that did it said:

Him: "I took them"
Me: (glaring look)
Him: "I didn't know anyone was using them"
Me: (another glaring look while grabbing new plates)
Him: "well you don't have to cop and attitude"

All I have to say is he is damn lucky I was doing a WOD for time! If he had just said "SORRY, I took them" I would be okay with it. I was literally standing 1 foot away from the bench (my back was to it) but could he not have asked? Why did he think the plates were on the bar. I am just lucky if it were reversed and l lifted the uneven bar with all of the weight on my bad side I probably would have screwed my shoulder up more than it already is.

I'm at a globo gym so I could only use two bars so loading and unloading for the cleans and deads took a lot of time. I also had my bench bar completely unloaded during the workout so I had to find new plates.

the first 5 rounds I was okay until my form was getting bad, so I decided to scale back down to what I did last time and finish with good form.
It took 42 minutes. If I didnt sweat so much, or if I could use chalk for my hands so I didnt loose my grip I would have done better. I hate how gyms dont let you use chalk, thats why I have my own gym in my garage.

I am 17 years old and until today I thought I was in great shape. I am currently in the Navy Delayed Entry Program and I am a SEAL candidate. I have known about Cross Fit for some time but thought that me other workouts were better suited for me. I was WRONG!. Today was the first day that I tried Cross Fit and I am convinced that this is the most effective workout around. "Linda" was a reality check for me that told me I am not yet strong enough. Thanks to "Linda" I am now a believer in Cross Fit.

This was tricky in my 24-Hr Fitness. There are a total of 4 Olympic bars in the whole gym, so I had to use one of those w-shaped curl bars for DLs, and a pre-loaded bar for cleans. Unfortunately, the highest weight I could find on one of those was 90-lbs, but I had to scale back the BPs, anyway.

Should have been 225/150/110, but scaled to 185/115/90. BP was definitely the weak link. Got 25:56. Wanted sub 30, so that was fine with me.

Got some great looks. Fun workout.

I would also contend that this WOD as do several seem to favor the 126lbs 5.5ft female, as Nicole and Gillian are almost the exact same specs, interesting.

Charlatan, sounds like you need to jack up your metabolism. Maybe a set of tabata in the morning or evening (opposite your WOD). Also add sprint intervals as a warmup. That should do the trick.

I should of done DL 300, Bench 195, and clean 150ish
but had to scale down a bit, so I did DL 225, bench 165, and clean 110 in 39 mins.

got through it, but the over-crowded frou-frou gym made it pointless to even time. About 1/2 an hour, including time spending having to re-rack the bars, waiting for people who jumped in on the bench,refused to let me work in and went super-slow on purpose. Highlight: dropping 280lb weight on someone's cellphone. Time to join X-fit gym.

Made it through rounds 10,9,8, and 7 before the gym closed. Thank God. (did BP for round 6 - was the only thing working well...)

Deadlifts at 285 were brutal
Between those and the 140# cleans, my hips of all things were KILLING me.
The BP did alright at 190. I was actually surprised - that felt very strong and I haven't benched in a long time. Guess those push-ups have been helping!

That said - should've scaled this in weight. As it was, I backed off the last two sets of deadlifts by 50# and I was still running out of gas. Had the gym not closed, I would have still had to bail early.

Linda - we will meet again. Hopefully no time soon. :)

When I saw Linda as today's WOD, I almost threw up in my mouth. Linda has always been one of the toughest WODs for me and today I feel great...

Warm Up: Greg's Circulars + Bergener WU with a hollow pipe.

WOD: Linda 55:15

Dead lift: 259lbs: All sets unbroken.

Bench Press: 174lbs: I broke all of the sets into 2 reps at a shot. My bench press has always been my weakest event and I have never done Linda as prescribed until today because of my bench press.

Cleans: 129lbs: I broke most sets into 4 or 5 at a shot until the 6th round. Sets unbroken after the 6th round. I was surprised at how well I did with the cleans, my form is getting really efficient.

Cool Down: 5 bar muscle ups.

A REALLY BIG DAY FOR ME! This is the first time that I was able to do Linda as prescribed. Last time I got to set 6 before I could no longer do the body weight bench. This time I felt really good on the bench but I kept my sets to two at a shot for fear of burning out before I finished. Next time I won't be so particular about getting the weight to the exact pound for Linda. This also shatters my last time of 1 hour and 57 minutes :>) A great day for me :>) Thanks Coach, Coach B and Rip...

I had a couple thoughts on your question. I play college soccer, so I understand the demands of college athletics also in terms of sport-specific and full-body workouts like crossfit. Our preseason just ended and we're a couple of games into our regular season. I also love crossfit and it did wonders for my stability and explosiveness in the first few steps and when running through contact. You have to find a balance in your schedule for your technical skills training (basketball), basketball-specific conditioning, and a crossfit workout. For us, our games are Fri and Sun, so I like to do a crossfit workout on a monday and/or tuesday(more of an endurance workout like Angie or Murph, rather than going heavy like Linda during the season). This way I keep working on my relative strength and explosiveness during the season and don't wilt into purely an endurance athlete (running 2 hours a day will do this). As for you and your offseason, I would try doing what I do during our spring... On technical skill days, go early or later and get a crossfit workout. On conditioning days, just focus on that session and go as hard as you can and kick everyone's ass!

15 minutes is like the 4 minute mile as far as I'm concerned. I'm sucking wind from the first round. This is not getting easier. From about the third round, I'm hunched over in a pool of my own sweat, my heart is pounding, and I can't catch my breath. Better still, everyone is staring at me like I'm on some kind of drug, because it isn't like I'm MOVING that fast...

Add in the fact that I'm muttering to myself (5 more, 2 more, up, up, UP!) and it is quite a sight. And this doesn't even talk about trainers trying to unload my weights while I'm working on one of my other bars.

Then I have to watch these girls doing 1/2 air squats and checking their form like they are doing it right. I'm trying to figure out if/how I can tell them how to do a proper squat without being a know-it-all. Maybe they'll stop doing weighted squats in the smith machine and get off the leg press...

First off, I have to declare myself a DNF for my first "Linda." I thought I would have enough time before taking my kids to go play golf--but I ran out of time.

My BW=157 today

My DL form was sketchy around the end of rnd3 (end of 7 reps), so I dropped the DL to 135 for safety.
Ran out of time and had to leave after rnd5.

Man, my Glutes were hurt'n...

Sucks, I feel as if I failed because I couldn't stick around to finish, and I dropped weight.

47:00 of hell. This was the closest I think I've come to puking...walking around the house after not knowing wether to sit, stand, lie, or puke.
w= about 190 # so it was scaled a bit... at home with only 1 bar, I think being bent over changing the weights sort of siezed the abs a bit and hard to catch breath. What a sweat that was. Love the heavys, my back is absolutely done now.

I weighed myself today for the first time in ages in order to scale the weights for today's workouts... Now I have been sick for a few weeks so not much working out and also been off the zone as I have been eating comfort food for my sickness so I was expecting something bad... But I'm now 187# up from 175# and in only like a month OMG! Needless to say I am not a happy camper...

I had to scale today massively as my strength has not kept up with my arse lol...

I did

Deadlift: 110kg (was too heavy but I soldiered on)
Bench Press: 70kg (could have done more)
Clean: 60kg

Total Time: 53:01

(I had to change weight plates between deadlifts and cleans but really I needed the time to rest)

I didn't really do a great job of scaling this... I should have scaled it to me weighing around 70kg like the bench for the other too but I got over confident and I couldn't say die once I'd started lol. Next time I'll be smarter.

I fell over for the first time on a lift today... Doing a clean lol... It was very funny and being at a globo using metal weights it sure got everyone's attention, I was pissing myself laughing but the trainer looked very concerned.

Not easy to do in a gym but on a Saturday night it's a bit easier. Modified in order to complete the sets and not blow my back out. I have been doing the work outs for a week now and already feel stronger. Not able to meet the weight goals but get a great work out nonetheless.

10lbs lighter than less time. pulled conventional instead of sumo and from the floor this time not partial. also up 50lbs from last time on deadlift. close grip on bench press instead of medium. and squat cleans instead of hang power cleans last time.

28:02 with power cleans; weights were 289, 193 and 144 respectively. Huge test for the shoulder and it made it through, first time with bench in forever so they were so amazingly slow and broken. All deads straight through, which was one of my only two goals (other was sub-30), and that was tough. Cleans broken up so that I wouldn't go into deads with my grip and lungs smoked.

This WOD destroys me on my best day; I remember when I first started the hardest part was putting the weights away after but now I'm already fresh as a daisy about 10-15 mintues post-WOD.

Did this first thing on an empty stomach, might not be the best WOD for that due to it's length but I felt pretty good. Got kinda pukey so I'm glad I didn't eat.

DL killed me. So many in a row, I start to really get concerned about
form. I didn't break up any of the DL but I did go slow just to work
on form. Felt my back round a little after 3 to 4 sets, so would set
the bar down completely and focus on my form.(Thank you Alan for your input) Did not let go of the grip.
Cleans. The first few sets were fine. I was thinking too light. As I
got to set 6, I knew it wasn't too light. ;-)
BP I just never did these so 60 was probably too light. Felt way too
easy and whipped through those quickly.
Nest time, i think the DL and Cleans will stay the same, I'll up the
BP perhaps by 5lbs and see what that does.

Started off the day with a 10.5 km hike with 60# at ~5 km/h with the Boy Scouts. Be prepared!

Skipped clean - didn't want to risk it w/o instruction and the back was tight already due to the deadlift.

Went for an "As Rx'd" and put myself in the hurt locker.

Started with 275 DL, 185 BP & 140 Cleans...felt my back go out on clean rep #8. Probably out of commission for the next 3 days (had this injury before).

Should have scaled down to 245/155/115 and probably would have had a solid, injury-free work out.

Note to my future self: Stop being a bull-headed dumb-a**, remember the pain you're in right now. Lift smart.

I'm still learning form on the cleans, and working on strength, had to scale back...1st time I tried Linda, I DNF'd due to wrist pain.

Sharon V (my wife who just got Level 1 Cert in VA.Bch) helped me with form today...and i FINISHED! I was drenched and wasted:

DL: 270 (could have gone heavier, I banged these out)
BP: 205 (challenging by 5s)
CL: 115: (started with 135, but could not squat to ground properly, so 1/2 way through, I dropped to 115 and squated properly).

Time: 36:10, first time finish: NEXT TIME, I'm hopefully going to be stronger and go up a little in weight, and try my damnedest to beat the time!

Haven't done this one in over a year. I'm a huge slacker. But found the last post and tried to do an apples-to-apples comp. 145 for clean, 185 for bench, 245 for deadlifts (this is the only one I really dropped down on; simply don't have the grip for the entire 10 sets).

As requested, 35:37. All sets unbroken. Next time, try to do deadlifts w/ 265, and then 285 the time after.

For a better personal comparison I used the same bw as last time, 175, even though I weigh more. My bw seems to fluctuate 10 lbs anyways lately. This WOD more then any pushes me to loose weight. If I can get down to 160 my rx'd weights would be 240/160/120 compared to 265/175/135. Obviously the 15lb loss in body fat means I am moving roughly 15 lbs less during all movements along with the calculated difference of each movement weight.

The cleans and bench were a piece of cake and I could have done a lot more weight, but I'm glad I scaled the deadlifts as my lower back was fried already from the recent deadlift WOD. I had to switch the weights every set because I work out at home and only have one bar. This got old quick and added a ton of time. Great workout though and it really made me appreciate the video of gillian.

knew i wuzn't gonna set any prs, so just determined to move thru Linda n get her done without injuring my cranky fatigued back. despite initial apprehension at tackling the bodyweight bench without a spotter, managed to move thru at a fair pace.

post: muscle-up practice, buncha kipping pull-ups, some k2e and toes-to-bar,
post post: ample consumption of fun beverages of assorted potencies til 4 am.

this morning's drive back plus right after playin back to back bball games in rec league = much tiredness now. no FGB today. herpaps tomorrow if da body hasn't gone on strike.

Only have 2 bars so had to pull all plates from the DL bar, move it into the cage, replace plates for BP, then reverse that for the next DL. Also had a predetermined stop time due to an appt. Finished the fourth round at 27:30 and stopped. Total trainwreck. Unloading, moving, and reloading the bar by myself ruined me. After stopping in disgust and exhaustion, I realized a better way to have done it. My heaviest dumbells would have given me a bench press just 10 pounds shy of bodyweight. Then I wouldn't have wasted so much time and energy between exercises. That's what I'll do next time if I haven't acquired a third bar by then.

My god. i tried to go as Rx'd, which meant

after 40 minutes, i had only made it from the 10-reps down to the end of the 6's.

i went to do the first deadlift of 5, and my body said "nope, that ain't happening". The benching was no problem, but the cleans/deadlift combo was a killer

this is the hardest workout i've ever tried, and i have no regrets aout not finishing. from the comfort of my couch now though, i think... only 15 more reps and i would have been finished.

next time Linda, next time...

Best part was my 12 year old son wanted to begin lifting and he did Linda, with the bar for BP and DL, and 16 lb medicine ball for squat clean. 12:40. He had great form on all three. scaled a bit: shoulder pain from jumping PU in July still inhibits anytype of press. Lumbar muscle pain caused me to scale back the DL after the first set (possibly poor form and fatique from doing an all out six sets of 3 rep DL 4 days ago.

the first two sets of DL: limited by lumbar muscle pain on the left and fear of "pulling something" strength was there otherwise.

bench press broken each set with one rest: primarily due to right shoulder pain from injury

cleans were mostly unbroken with some pauses. Kicked my ass, almost passed out with dizzyness.

3 hours later I feel comparable to how I have felt following an 18 mile run

wanted to use the same weights I used back in February, to compare. I did 10, then 9, and I was doing the cleans of number 8 when the gym staffer asked me If I had another pair of shoes. I said no, and he said that my shoes might be a safety problem. I asked him if he was throwing me out, and he asked If I would go with him talk to the shift supervisor, since it was her decision. I agreed, and of course, she said my shoes were unacceptable. So, I asked for a comment card, put my views in writing (I had no beef with the staffers, they were very polite), and left my comments for the mananger. She sent me an e-mail today, saying that she had to agree with her staffers, but that she would run the issue up the Air Force Headquarters, to see what they say about it.

Funny part is, I usually only go to the Hickam Gym on Drill Weekends. But still, being asked to leave?! I still can't believe it. When the staffer mentioned a possible safety issue, I offered to grab a couple of 45# plates, and to drop one on his foot and mine, to see if his sneaker afforded him more protection than my VFFs. Of course, he declined. I wonder if anyone else has had similar experiences? I usually work out at Camp Smith, and I've never had a problem with my VFF's there.

I have realized once again, I'm still in ridiculously poor shape.

Not an excuse but I did have a pinched nerve 1.5 years ago that left my upper left side of my body basically useless for 3-4 months. Very bad atrophy in my left pec, shoulders, lats and arm muscles. I couldn't even do a pull-up or push-up on my own as of November last year. I still notice how weak my left side is whenever working out.

Clean: Same issues with grip. On top of than didn’t really do squat cleans but kind of power cleans from the ground, not hanging. Were not intending to do them, I just forgot what the exercise looked like…

total time 42 min could barely walk and talk .

I calculated total weight lifted from all exercises combined was 29,635lbs. 36,300lbs would have been the total if I had finished but I chose not to compromise my safety. now tell me what regular program could deliver so much weight lifted in a single work out? I don't care if my time sucked I look at the work load.

6'1" 200lb turning 35 this December.

this one kicked my butt!! I did it a few days ago and attempted to do it as prescribed. I got through the first round and realized I went to heavy. I started with 360 for deadlifts, 240 bench, 180 cleans. I only did 3 rounds and had to drop the last 2 rounds down to 315, 225, 135.

31:19, aah 3 minutes off PR, felt pretty good, probably because of too much resting, DL and BP all unbroken, maybe up 5 on DL, down 10 on CL

time was 27:51 but i only had two bars so each round took roughly and extra twenty seconds to strip the weight from the deadlift to the clean weight and then put it back on

Body Weight is 168, tried to do it as RX'ed ON DL 2 REPS 255 but a I went to...225 DL. AJUSTED BENCH DOWN TO 165, 1ST SET WAS OVER MY BODY WIEGHT.
