Thanks for another great cycle. Especially enjoyed Thursday's WOD. Looking forward to doing "Griff" with the class tomorrow.
Doing the MUD RUN tomorrow with a CFSD team!
I'm glad the housing bubble is deflating. Could have been a lot worse if it lasted longer and went out with a big bang. Really, who couldn't have seen this coming? I do have a house I can't sell when I wanted so I will have to suck it up for a few years.
Another great cycle Thursday's WOD was particulary harder than expected.
Also, great video. As said in the video they thought they honored them well. Yes sir, you did.
"Michael" today early, followed by Friday's CFE late. Very impressive video from Overload. Thanks for ending my day on such a high note!
FEMALE CROSSFITTERS!
Some wonderful ladies started a Yahoo Group for females to compare WODs and motivate each other without sorting through all the comments here (not that we do not like to see if we are beating any of you guys!)
If you are interested in joining, here is the link:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/FemaleCrossfitters/
So I finally did the "1 speal thruster and double under" wod. It was the WOD at my affilate. That is seriously one of my favorite workouts that I have ever done. Didn't get a record time by anymeans (as rx'd 13:05). I just loved it though. If I had to pick three favs at this point after crossfitting for about half a year seriously... 1 speal thruster and db under, helen, tabata something else.
Awesome video. America really is a great place to live, learn, and enjoy life. May she always be blessed with honorable men who are able and willing to defend her; honorable people who are able and willing to lead her on a straight and narrow path; and honorable traditional families that really do make up the core of any strong nation!
Just had the scare of my life.
I was training a good family friend who is quite active (runs 5-10k three times a week and is a landscaper by trade so by no means unfit).
He cycled 3km to my garage gym and completed the CFWU as his warmup. I was running him through a Cindy as his first workout and he completed 9 rounds and did not push himself to the limit and paced himself quite well. He recovered well and rode home an hour later. He kept his fluids up before, during and after the workout.
I rang him the next day and re mentioned some soreness all over his body but nothing out of the ordinary. He went to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a little pectoral, abdominal and bicep soreness. I met up with him last night and he mentioned that he had started urinating "Coca-Cola". That was the warning sign I didn't want to hear. I got straight on the phone to Matt Swift from Crossfit Brisbane and Matt had a good chat to him and I took him straight to hospital.
He is still there after posting a CK level of 186,000, 12 hours after being admitted. He has been only saline drip and catheta all night and is slowly recovering. Luckily there is no kidney damage and he will make a full recovery.
Uncle Rhabdo reared his ugly head when I thought I was being careful and have always looked for the warning signs. It was not until he mentioned that he had quite a few alcoholic drinks (15) on the Wednesday night that the penny dropped and he was totally dehydrated and his body could not process the myoglobin.
This has been a massive wakeup call for me to be fully aware of what people are capable of and what they do for their recovery. My butt has been well and truly kicked and I am now more informed about the dangers of rhabdo than I was previously. Very scary when a renal specialist is called in from out of town to check a patient that you have trained.
A very big thanks to Matt Swift who has been my sounding board for the last 14 hours and whose guidance and knowledge is invaluable.
Lesson learned the hard way.
Thanks for sharing Rookie. I hope that your friend gets better soon.
thank you for the video.
just, thanks.
Great video guys, it makes me proud of what I've done in my life with the military. I'm even more proud to belong to a community like CrossFit where everyone regardless of their politicol ideologies shows such support to all the soldiers, airmen, seamen and marines that are literally putting their lives on the line for each and every one of us. Thank You.
The American flag is hung wrong in that affiliate. Stars should be to the left.
Awesome video Jordan and Paula (CFO)! It was great to be part of that workout. Casey, great idea. We talked about it for weeks after. Thanks for making it happen. CrossFit951'ers were so proud of themselves after. Such a great way to honor our fallen versus stuffin' our faces with food and beer at a BBQ. See you guys soon.
Great video. Gotta love that Rudy music.
Really sad today about the passing of Tim Russert. A fellow Buffalonain and a great patriot of this country. I highly recommend his book Big Russ And Me. He was a guy who definitely did "all the right things, for all the right people, for all the right reasons."
I Hope everybody has a great fathers day this Sunday. I know I am going to give my dad some extra big hugs this fathers day.
It is impossible to ever fully repay those who sacrificed everything for our way of life. That video was great.
Every "Hero Workout" should be performed with the knowledge that our sacrifice in the gym is only a fraction of what they have given.
I wish I was still with you guys. 257-260
Hey Alison, was just curious about "the MUD RUN" What exactly is that?
I have something important I need everyone to know, and it is this:
You want a toe? I can get you a toe. Believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't want to know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon. With nail polish.
Thank you.
Zach F: You hit the nail on the head, bro.
God Bless our men and women in uniform.
About the article: The mess we're in is from 1) Weaker currency and general unwillingness to improve it and inflation 2) those late night infomercials getting people to part with their money so they can be the next overnight tycoon and 3) oversupply compared to new construction. This is a crisis that is avoidable to begin with, but it's time to pay the Piper. We need to be willing to stomach the hard choices, but will we?
Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack playing at the background of the video?
Good Video! I think the American Flag is backwards though. Stars should be on the left.
Just did Cindy. Previous PR 17 rounds. This time 20 rounds +4 pull ups. Didn't throw up so I'm guessing I could have fit in at least another round or two. Amazing what channeling depression can do. Looking forward to the next time I do this. Hopefully well fed and rested I'll be able to do even better.
Very good video, but I have to go with the other two comments the flag is backwards field of blue to the left
And thats what I Crossfit hands Im not sure if mine will ever heel but I dont even care Crossfit has changed my life in the best of ways
Iraq 07-08
Overload Guys, great video. Made my morning.
25/m/5'8/160
dont really get what that video had to do with the military. Backwards flag. Kinda wierd. Anyway,
7 rounds
7 thrusters 95lbs
7 knees to elbows
7 30 inch box jumps
7 pullups
7 overhead squats 95lbs
7 kb swings 55lbs
7 ring dips
billy - 27:14
re 'backwards' flags - has to do w/ direction of movement - stars go first...
(I think)

The housing problem was caused by two things:
1) Under-qualified buyers looking at housing well out of their financial means. Everyone trying to buy something to keep up with the Jones'. Taking a mortgage without looking at the terms and not considering the consequences when the bill comes due is just plain stupid. I don't feel sorry for them.
2) The lenders just throwing out "free" money to under-qualified buyers. The types of loans presented over the past few years were ridiculous.
I don't feel sorry for the buyer in foreclosure. They should have taken a realistic look at their ability to pay when the bill came due. Interest only loan? Are you kidding me? That's worse than paying rent because you get stuck holding the poop bag.
I don't feel sorry for the lenders either. Of all people, they should know what the risk is and now they are stuck with a bunch of empty homes not worth the loan. Too bad suckers.
Now the whole market is jacked up and the rest of us will end up paying somehow to help the government clean it up. I say no bail out. If you screwed up, I guess your renting. If your a lender and you failed because of your shady practice, I guess you can cut your loss and sell the property for what it's really worth on terms that make sense.
Did the 800m forward 400m backwards WOD with my team today. Not bad at running forward but backwards... Noticed a young lad Graham catching me up when running backwards. Examined his technique afterwards. He is a rugby player and showed how they don't lift their knees but use a sweeping action where the feet travel out and to the sides. Very efficient. Later we trained on the rings. Nailed the back lever and did 9 consecutive muscle ups, the most frustarting number! Train with people better than you and you always improve!

#27 - Devildog: Really? You don't see what the video has to do with the military? How about the fact that they did 4,587 total reps in remembrance of our brothers and sisters that have fallen.
Guys and Girls of CFO, GREAT VIDEO! I don't think it gets said enough, but those of us in the Armed Forces truly appreciate every bit of support that we receive from the public. Anytime I see the media bashing the military or trying to "protect" the military by bringing them home (which, as an aside, is crazy; you never hear, "Keep the firemen safe, keep them out of burning buildings!" or "Keep the police safe, keep them off the streets!" We weren't drafted, we knew what we signed up for) all I have to do is turn to CrossFit.com to know that we really are appreciated. Your support goes farther than you'll ever know. THANK YOU!
As for the flag, now that the affiliate has been made aware of it, there's no reason to go on about it. But, I'm sure there'll be about 10 other posts throughout the day beating a dead horse.
# 29 Bob in NoVa- Right on. The current "housing crisis" was fueled by two simple factors:
1. People buying houses that they simply cannot afford; "Hey, who doesn't want to live in a mansion?" If you cannot afford it, do not buy it.
2. Greedy lenders who approved loans to people who could not afford them.
Currently, the expression "We're giving our house back to the bank..." is being glibly tossed out by educated, otherwise law-abiding folks who know better. Banks are not realtors, banks do not want your house; this expression is merely a euphemistic description of defaulting on one's legal and moral responsibility to re-pay a debt.
Just further evidence of the growing moral decay in our society.
Meanwhile, these folks who "give their house back to the bank"
move to new homes after sucking the equity out of their existing homes, which get foreclosed on. The result? More empty houses, lowering the home values of surrounding neighbors who upheld their social obligation to work hard and pay just debts.
Besides being put together well, that video was just another showing of mediocre athletes. I wish somebody would sort out the videos before I watch them so I would know which ones are worth my time.
#33
Watching "mediocre athletes" is motivating to me. It's great fun to watch Speal, OPT, and many other rock some WODs, but it is also fun to see your average athlete push themselves to their own limits. To me that is what CF is all about.
#33
based on your comment i don't think you have a complete grasp of the heart of crossfit. it is about personal bests and average people overcoming adversity to achieve incredible feats. were it not for these mediocre athletes, the crossfit community would not be growing at the rate it is.
did thursday's wod this am
7 rounds
17:01
(kipping pullups, regular bar dips)
f 125/29/5'6
Very inspirational video. Good job. Gets me motivated!
I read the housing article, no real shocker to me as I am sure it wasn't to lots of other folks that read it as well.
As for the flag, big deal, it's up at least and thats about 100 times more patriotic than most. I am sure CFO corrected it.
But MEDIOCRE athletes? Please. News flash, Crossfit is hard! There isn't too much that prepares people outside the gym for a workout of that magnitude, I don't care how those reps got divided. As a soldier, I appreciate that WOD regardless of whether the pull ups were kipping, jumping, partial ROM or just hanging from the bar. Now, go into ANY affiliate and tell them they have mediocre athletes.
#33
I'm 54 years old and thank God every day that I discovered this program in January. I'm one of those "mediocre athletes" who is working towards becoming a "mutant". I may not get there, but I will be in better functional shape than at any point in my life. I'm really sorry that you cannot appreciate their effort.
CapeCodDave: You out there? The whole fam damley will be in West Dennis 3rd week in July. Would love to hook up or get advice on CF-friendly venues.
Thanks.
Who put that video together? Clint Eastwood? It was so moving and inspirational. Yet another reminder that "forging elite fitness" involves more than strengthening one's muscles, it's also about fortifying one's spirit and commitment to your fellow countrymen. Thank you Coach, Lauren and all CFers.
Just a quick note on the flag. Being in the Canadian Forces myself I always wondered why the american flag was "backwards" on their uniforms. I was explained that the colors are running towards the battle not away. This was just what was explained to me, im sure theres lots of people on this board that could confirm or deny that.
#33
I'm a 68 year old male who has been crossfitting for 2 months. I couldn't do a WOD as Rx'd if you held a gun to my head. I bust my butt every day just to be able to do a Buttercup workout with no assists or adjustments. I look just like the worst athletes you saw on the video. Crossfit is saving what is left of my life. I am happier, healthier, more satisfied and having more fun then I have had in decades. Thanks for the video's that show me that I am not alone.
Jim S., you're right. The stars on the right, represent the colors being carried into battle. It looked odd to me, too when I first joined the army and we had to start wearing the flag on BDU's.
Great tribute to our military Paula & Jordan. Excellent job with the video & the wod.
Thanks Alex (comment #31) for sharing your opionion, I agree.
Unfortunate for me, I have not seen your Athlete profile on the CrossFit Games site. Good luck dude. I can't wait to see your results.
Comment #46, I'm referring to Jason (com.#33).
Sorry, I don't post much.
I wish I could have participated in Overloads Memorial Day WOD. I'm currently a "mediocre athlete" but getting bettter every CrossFit day.
It's really hard to take a Rest day with a video like that.
I'm all the way down from Canada and I honor fallen men from both of our contries.
really nice job.
#33 Jason. Mediocre athletes? You might want to head to a water aerobics class for a bit of perspective.
Why was such a mean-spirited post warranted? Because of the extreme injustice of the six minutes of your life that was 'wasted'?
"Michael", details posted there.
Re: Flag...June 14th is the traditional Flag Day in the U.S., originally proclaimed by Woodrow Wilson.
That was the most moving video that I've seen on this site. Thank you CrossFit Overload for what you did - it was an amazing and honorable thing to do.
Comment #43 - Posted by: Sky King
Sky, thanks for letting us know, and glad to have you aboard! Paul
Hey, I'm not dogging anybody for being mediocre. I'm no mutant myself. I'm just saying, it's not worth watching.
"Hey look, there's somebody that doesn't stick to a diet, probably cross-fits twice a week and can barely do 20 consecutive situps! Awesome!"
Does that sound better?
I was in the gym with my friend (not a crossfitter, yet) and he is about 194lb and he did a 135lb shoulder press. I am about 168lb and my last pr was 115, and I thought "I'm a freakin crossfitter, I can do this"! So I did! I never realized how much it helps you to have someone to compete with in the gym. (he hated that I could do the same as him, even though I"m smaller) Thanks Crossfit!
I hated that video. I appreciate the people there doing the reps for the dead, and I don't want to take away anything from their efforts, as if I could, but the video was terrible in my opinion.
I hate the idea of doing reps for dead Marines/Sailors/Soldiers/Airmen or workouts, even though I do them, but I do them because they are great workouts and I am sure that most people do them just because the workouts are ball-busters. If someone were actually interested in honoring the dead service men/women, that person should try and find out more about how and why those people died. That, in my opinion would better serve them. Better yet find just one and learn about him or her, that would do them honor.
I am now going to step off of my high horse.
anyone wanna buy my house?.....
Jordan and Paula have put together a professional operation in a very short period of time. Their enthusiasm comes through in the great videos that Jordan keeps pumping out. Great work for a great cause: remembering those who gave it all. Keep it up!
who are these people posting today? If you dont like the video or content of the site, go somewhere else. Debate a topic, give your opinion on an issue, but to just be critical of a video or the way people look is just rude. So what is someone only does crossfit twice a week, atleast they are doing something.
Obviously this site has deep ties with the military, law enforcement and firefighting...if you take issue with any of those professions this may not be the site for you.
#55 speaking about the hero workouts, "I am sure most people do them just because the workouts are ball-busters". That is just a stupid comment and not true. How do you know why I or anyone else does a hero workout. I do them to honor the person who gave it all, who made the ultimate sacrifice. Sometimes you might even know the person that the hero workout is honoring, gives it even more meaning. Obviously this is not the case with you.
Gina
About # 33: I'll never understand why people go out of their way to say rude, hurtful, pointless things like that. I wouldn't want to live with a negative spirt like that.
No mud run for me after all :( HUGE bummer. One of our members got sick. I was so excited that I couldn't even sleep last night. We'll have to wait for the next one :(
#18 Kyle: I'm not a expert on it so you can probably get more info if you look it up online. But I think it's a 10k obstacle course through the mud. Pretty cool. I think it's the only way I would enjoy running and enjoy rolling in dirt.

#42 Jim S. re: backwards flag on uniforms
Following is a quote from the Department of Defense website...
"Thank you for your inquiry about the proper placement of the American flag on the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Army Regulation 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” updated most recently September 5, 2003, addresses explicitly the proper and lawful placement of the U.S. flag patch on the Army uniform.
The regulation states that when authorized for application to the proper uniform the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the ‘reverse side flag’.”
#58 Gina. "I do them to honor the person who gave it all..."
That's a little dramatic. Let's not go thinking we're doing something righteous here. We're here for fitness first. If we can remember the fallen at the same time, then great. But I'd bet a million dollars most of us would do the WOD if it was called "Sadam Hussein"
I like Jason's remarks (comment 33). He didn't like the video and told us why and it was a prety good reason. I don't agree with him because I happen to like seeing people who aren't the elite CrossFit athletes work real hard, but at least he was kind of funny about it. My problem with the video is the over the top chest swelling patriotic music and the patriotic rifles and the patriotic helmets and the oversaturation of patriotism and the patriotism. I understand they're patriotic; you don't have to beat me over the head with it. I just wanted to see more of the workout and couldn't because of all the slow motion stuff. I kept expecting to see stock footage of a bald eagle flying by superimposed over the waving Stars and Stripes.
And yeah, I know, you don't have to yell at me. I'm an unpatriotic jerk and I don't appreciate the fighting men and women and the troops and 911 and Katrina, etc. I'm mostly joking anyway. I just have a bad attitude right now because I hate our government so much.
#33
I'm 53 and was just told I need a hip replacement. I can still do Crossfit because of the scalability and adaptability of the program.
And I would also be one of those "mediocre" athletes.
When I look around my Crossfit affiliate, there are some young guns but for the most part it's just ordinary people who have made an extraordinary choice in their pursuit of excellence.
So as much as I enjoy seeing someone from the "home office" do Grace in 30 seconds, I'd also like to see more of the people who who show up every day and get through the WOD the best THEY can.

re:#7 Anne, thanks for the info. Hope my non-digi-HD-techno self can figure out how to use it.
Scaled Michael a little bit to 30 SU / BE
Time: 14:24. Wanted to go a little faster on the 800's but oh well.

That's a personal slam that has gone beyond anything I've said.
You're an artist... Don't you get inspired by greatness?
Fantastic article. I live in one of the highest forecloser areas in the country; and that article nailed it.
Barney Frank is an odd one, but the assessment of his porposed Bill is very fair.
Bravo Zulu to Crossfit Overload for a great video. Much appreciated by a Marine forward deployed in Afghanistan. What a great way for the crossfit family to combine their love of fitness and honor the men/women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Semper Fidelis!

Now I really feel like a jerk. I hope my comments weren't hurtful. Keep up the good work.
I have a question about the 3days on and 1 day off opposed to 4 days on and 2 days off.
I have 2 dilemma's: 1)I play basketball 1-2 times a week and it seems to interfere with the overall crossfit schedule 2)I generally feel fatigued towards the end of the 3/1 routine.
What are the overall thoughts/opinions on which is more productive, 3 on, 1 off or 4 on, 2 off?
I am definitely interested in any and all comments.
THANKS!!
It's funny to hear comments from people across the country who aren't as effected by all of the foreclosures like we are here in Phoenix. I've got 4-5 on my street alone, and these were houses that were selling for 3-500k 2 years ago. The article touches on dangers of foreclosed houses in the neighborhood, one they didn't mention is the "Party House Posse." These are teens to 20-somethings that go around looking for foreclosed homes to break into and setup for a weekend party where they completely trash the home(holes in walls, wires pulled out, plumbing destroyed, water and smoke damage etc.) So, it's bad enough that the neighborhood has to watch for human smuggling, and the normal crimes but now we have to keep an eye on these damn houses that are being bought up by investors who are probably going to rent them out to anyone who can come up with a security deposit. Since there are so many rentals on the market now, and we had a huge real estate investment years ago(another cause of the huge foreclosures here in Phoenix)that dumped a lot of rentals on the market, people are scrambling for renters.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against renters as long as the rentals are taken care of by the landlords. In my experience here in PHX, a lot of times that's not the case.
I think more rent-to-own programs need to be developed for these people to help revive credit and give people the pride of ownership again. This would allow people to slowly get back into a home.
Oh well, Saturday's are bench press days for me. Fun Fun!
#72
If you are fatigued towards the end of a 3/1 cycle, don't you think you would be worse at the end of 4 consecutive days?
Although CF is rx'd as 3 on 1 off, I think more importantly you do what works for you. Part of CF is also learning and playing sports and if B-Ball is part of your life, then let your schedule include that. I think many people, including myself, can't always follow 3/1. Most affiliates are open 5-7 days a week for that reason.
I just read all the comments about the video. While I don't agree with Jason, he does have a right to have an opinion and voice it. His right to voice that opinion has been preserved by soldiers and civilians past and present, dead and alive, that are being honored by that workout. While that wasn't a video of all elite athletes putting out 100% effort, it looked like normal people putting out 110% effort.
I used to be discouraged at globogyms when I was bodybuilding. The people there didn't inspire me and were clearly not lifting at my level. I wondered where all the natural bodybuilders were and why these people were so lazy.
I eventually realized, I was one of maybe 2-3% of people that go to a gym to bodybuild and that these people weren't lazy, they were just doing their thing the best that they could. Even though there may have actually been some lazy people there, just because they weren't spending 2 hours a day in the gym and eating perfect doesn't mean they are lazy or any less inspiring.
Once I became a personal trainer and learned that some of these people in the gym have come back from real serious physical injuries, emotional problems, or psycological issues brought on by traumas and now they are getting back in complete shape, I saw them in a different light.
Even the 500lb guy in the gym that people laugh at, or make fun of, is one of the bravest guys in the gym. And sure, he may be a "mediocre" athlete at best, but at least he's doing something now.
So, remember, when you look at these crossfit videos of the elite athletes, you need to realize, these are the top 2-3% of what's out there, not the majority. Most people have no desire to do the named WODs in record times.
Good day.
In regards to #33 Jason
Jason, the comment was a little mean. If you don't have anything nice to say... However, maybe the people who he is referring to are mediocre athletes and should accept it and check their own egos.
I liked the video but I wasn't exactly profoundly inspired by it either.
You see what I just did. I stated my opinion without being rude or degrading. Hopefully, everybody can accept it for what it is; my opinion.
Jason,
you are wrong to ASSUME that, "most of us are here for fitness first". I was fit before I came to his site, I stayed because it offered more than fitness. Who knows why you are here, I won't pretend to know.
Sorry you are so unhappy, your sour attitude is gross. I agree with Allyison NYC, I just don't understand people's rudeness sometimes. Anyway, beautiful day in sunny So Cal, gonna go enjoy it. Hope you find something to smile about today.
Gina
I think watching some of the elite CF-ers ripping through WODs can be also have a negative affect on many. The "mediocre" athlete sees superdude or dudette do 67 pullups or 10 straight muscle ups, goes to the gym, can't do 1, feels inadequate, and quits. Mediocre athlete sees people like him/herself plugging away in a video as best they can, realizes he/she's normal, and keeps plugging away themselves. Some, Jason?, could possibly thrive on the negative motivation - they watch athletes inferior to them, and get motivated to even further the divide. In summary, I think all levels of athlete should be welcomed in the videos.
And I agree with Ben in #76 - there is a certain level of courage involved in the fat/weak/even dare I say it ugly person hitting the oftentimes elitist gym (and that includes some CF gyms, folks).
#10 Rookie- thanks for sharing that story, i wish the very best for your friend.
#33 Jason- start your own free blog and put your own videos up and then leave some comments for yourself.
Doing the CrossfitEndurance WOD today and I'm pretty excited. That's been a phenominal way to take on my "endurance goat" head on, the site is amazing.
AndyP,
Why are you so angry with the government?
The government is beginning to work again like it should.
Congressional Republicans are starting to show a backbone in order to start drilling in more coastal areas. Perhaps that will lead to more oil refineries and foundaries in order to build more steel that this country needs. S. Dakota just applied for a permit to build an oil refinery for the oil shale there.
The Supreme Court just made the indefinite hold of prisoners in Gitmo illegal. These people - whether or not they are prisoners of war - are allowed to appeal to civilian courts now. THAT IS HUGE! The dictatorship under GWB is OVER! GWB can not indefinitely hold anyone without some appeal to civilian courts or some due process of law.
As for the "mediocre" athlete comment that has been getting so much attention. I like people commenting on how many people are at least trying to get out there and complete some WODs. I personally like some of the WODs that are coming out of the new Santa Cruz site as well as the Petranek Crossfit site.
ME - I weigh 315 lbs. I know that I am overweight.
A couple of my recent workout results:
800 m run (1000 m row)
21 dips
15 wall balls (15 thrusters with 2 X 20 lbs DBs)
400 m run (500 m row)
18 dips
12 WBs or 15 thrusters
200 m run (250 m row)
15 dips
12 WBs
100 m run (125 m row)
12 dips
6 WBs
I did more reps than required and finished this in 11:30.
Today, 5 rounds for time
225 lb deadlift X 12 reps
ring dips X 12 reps
400 m run (500 m row)
~3:40 per round
~17:00 minutes total
I play semi-professional football. If you want to come to DE and work out with me, bring it. If you have noticed the heat wave over the northeast the last couple of days, yeah, I have been gone to a 3 hour football practice in the middle of it.

Hey, I'm not dogging anyone for being a jerk. I'm just saying it's not worth the effort of running this web site, if it's freely available to jerks.
Even paid services like newspapers don't provide you with only those articles you want to read.
Elite and elitist are two different things...
CrossFit's motto is FORGING (operating word) elite fitness. Coach could have titled it plain "elite fitness." I think he chose his words wisely.
Just wanted to share with CrossFitLand that I got my first muscle up today! I have been CrossFitting for 10 months and had made my 1 year anniv as my goal for a muscle up so am super excited that I got it already! I had only 1 pullup 10 months ago and can now do 21 consecutive with no other supplemental strength training other than the WODS (just some extra CFE stuff). Crazy things are possible with CrossFit training! I love it! I never dreamed that I would be 33 y.o., married, with 2 children working on these types of skills. This program has shown me that I can do anything at any age if I work hard enough at it. I always considered myself "weak in the arms"-- well, now that I actually do strengthening exercises with my arms they are getting strong- funny how that happens, huh?! :)
Now on to working on the butterfly kip :) For anyone that hasn't seen it yet there's a great tutorial on the affiliates blog today that breaks down the butterly kip.
#73-Ben "I think more rent-to-own programs need to be developed for these people to help revive credit and give people the pride of ownership again. This would allow people to slowly get back into a home."
That sounds like a good thought and your post shows compassion, which is a good quality to have. In reality, most rent to own agreements benefit the landlord, and not the renter. The problem may well be the pride itself. Most people are seldom satisfied with what they have. The man on the street wishes he had a tent, the man in a tent wishes he had a room, the man in the room wishes he had a house, the man in the house wishes he had a car, the man with a house and a car wishes he had two cars, the man with two cars wishes he had a wife, the man with a wife wishes he had a girlfriend, and the list goes on, and on....
Maybe if we would stop and evaluate where we are, take note of what we DO have, and be thankful to God for it; we might not suffer as much debt, grief, and loss. I'm thankful I found this CrossFit community, the opportunity to make new friends, exchange ideas, and enjoy a new way of life that is truly unique in the fitness community. :)
#85-LAC-Ames,
Good job! And thanks for posting your progress. You are an inspiration to others that may be today, where you were ten months ago. My hat is off to you for accomplishing your goal while being a mother, wife, and I'm sure a huge part of your families overall strength. Don't let your age deter you from continued progress. In the triathlon community from which I came, the 30-34 year old age group (among age group triathletes) is the most competitive age group. You are in your prime! Full speed ahead. :)
What really scared me in that article was the fact that international investors were one of the ways out of the housing crisis. Slowly but surely America is being sold off to other countries. Sen. Obama has a fund raiser planned in China for his campaign. So when he gets in office (I dont like him but I think he will) what do you think thats gonna spell for the people of this country? We the people need to do SOMTHING because the goverment isn't going to do it for us!!!
Wow.
I can't believe all the reactions I'm getting here. You know, I read a lot of over-opinionated, long-winded comments on this site everyday, but I never once butted in to call somebody a "jerk" (Hari #83) or to tell somebody they are a "waste of time" (marcus g #63). But I'm the one that's mean-spirited (Alison) for not wanting to watch that video. If I'm the only one who feels this way, why aren't TV channels loaded with junior high basketball games or high school girls badminton? Because people like to watch the pros. I'm sure there are, literally, a million videos out there of everyday people working out. I still don't want to see them.
It seems I’ve picked up some kind of internet-nasty: I’ve gotten the Blue Screen of Death trice while working on this. So hopefully, this attempt will be as put together as the first and I don’t leave anything out…
I’m pretty hot about these anti-video comments. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some things are better left unsaid. Of those of you bashing the video, how many of you have served? Have known someone who gave the ultimate sacrifice? Have had to look a friend’s family in the eyes and tell them that he is gone?
The Heroes workouts serve many functions, the LEAST of which is providing an exercise stimulus. They honor the memories of their namesakes by allowing others to learn of their sacrifice. How many of us would know about Daniel, Jason, or Badger at all if it wasn’t for their WODs? Putting their names and faces on the site give people an opportunity to learn more about these Heros. Have you done that “Trip?” Additionally, the Hero workouts serve a much more profound purpose in letting the families and friends (who do read the comments, by the way - particularly on days when their loved one’s WOD pops up) know that they these men and women HAVE NOT BEEN FORGOTTEN.
Andy, I’ve come to expect more from you. You criticized an affiliate because they created a video to commemorate those that have given their lives in defense of this country? Some of those men and women were FRIENDS OF THIS COMMUNITY. It saddens me that you equate supporting our troops with supporting the government. In case you haven’t figured it out by now, that video had nothing to do with the government or politics.
“Mediocre Athletes” – This video shows the heart and soul of CrossFit. CrossFit is more than an exercise program. It’s about more than just “Forging Elite Fitness.” While some of us dream of some day winning the CrossFit Games, others dream of being able squat below parallel or lock out a load overhead. Sure, a 2:05 Fran time is cool, but I’d be willing to bet that Chris has learned a lot about himself on that quest. I bet AFT, OPT, Greg A., and all the other CrossFit Elites that we look up to would tell you that they are better PEOPLE because of CrossFit, not just better athletes. In my opinion, it is no less of a feat for a person to get off the couch and step into the world of CrossFit than is a 2:05 Fran or a 600-lbs deadlift. Maybe CrossFit is just about the workout for you and you’ve got everything else in life figured out, if so, then right on. But if you’re like the rest of us, maybe there’s more to these videos than watching people workout. Maybe they are about people pushing themselves to new heights. About watching someone transform right before your eyes. I bet that WOD was a mental breakthrough for a few of those CrossFitters. Maybe the theme gave them reason to push through. If you’ve ever seen someone ready to quit, ready to surrender to their mind, yet push past it and leave their old self behind, then you’d understand. This is the “greatness” that inspires me.
Again, to you “mediocre athletes” at CFO, THANK YOU! From the very bottom of my heart. Your patriotism has bolstered my spirit. Know that there is NOTHING mediocre about any of you. Your passion was clear in your eyes, and it will continue to carry myself and others along on our journey. To Paula and Jordan, thank you for setting up that WOD and submitting the video. Keep ‘em comin’!
Today we did this in Saturday AM class:
21-15-9
Deadlifts
3-2-1
Handstand walk with HSPU at end of each trip
I got there late, so I dont know what the recommended weights were. I started with 165# but couldn’t do more than singles so after 5 reps went down to 145. BW = 148
I guess it wasn’t for time but it still kicked my butt

Nice video Guys,
And I see a lot of nice trophies (hand rips, shins bleeding) were produced as a result of this WOD.
Jason, there's a very simple solution to your problem: Don't watch them! Within 1 minute of today's video, it should've been clear to you what it was and wasn't. Or did you expect Speal, OPT, and AFT (do you even know who he is?) to run in and save the day?
I've learned alot from Coach, so if he and the staff at CFHQ feel that a video is worth posting, then I feel that it's worth watching. But, to each his own. Have a safe and stellar weekend.
#90, Alex Europa.
Besides being long-winded and putting off the vibe that you think you're writing a literary masterpiece, you might be going a little too far in saying that if someone doesn't like the video, then the honor of the fallen is insulted. Come on, this isn't drama class.
m/37/197/70"
Did Michael today (Flag Day). Comments there. Much fun doing the WOD in a thunderstorm!
#90, 95: Alex Europa... well said. Thanks!
#70, the Marine forward deployed to A-stan, didn't find the video too patriotic. It was Memorial Day.
Why is patriotism bad?
Watch for these few moments when people on the left (no, not all of you) let their guard down and show the world that they truly do hate our country and what it stands for. They especially despise the military, for being unthinking robots and baby killers.
#33 has every right to his opinion. But to disparage the efforts of the athletes who chose to do an extremely difficult workout to honor our dead is asinine. Kudos to Jordan for documenting and sharing it. His artistic talent alone makes the video worth watching.
Why don't #33, #55 and #64 move to France, start CrossFit Paris (for mutants and America-haters only), and leave the rest of us mediocre CrossFitters to ourselves?
P.S. Why are there no CF affiliates in France? Weird.

Did you notice on the hero workouts you can click on the link to read about them? Check out 'Michael' from a yesterday. After that you can ride your horse to google and read even more.

Mediocre athletes? The video had the "Rudy" theme being played the whole time. That entire movie was about a mediocre athlete with a huge heart.
Jason, if you post that you thought "Rudy" was a lame ass movie, I'll freakin' lose it!!!!
Speaking as a not-dead "hero" who's been overseas in harm's way, and lost friends there, I agree with trip. We can't be the only two people who read comments like "my pain will honor their sacrifice," and shake our heads. If you want to honor someone's service and sacrifice, donate money to their memorial fund, send thank you letters to their spouses, buy a vet a beer, etc...
On second thought, knowing my buddies who ate it, I'm sure if we named workouts for them their ghosts would take sick pleasure in knowing that we're suffering lol. For the record, when I die I want "Caleb" to be 5 rounds for time of 10 clapping L-pull-ups, 10 airborn push-ups, and 10 burpee-snatches!
And Jason, you asked for it man...
Happy Flag Day all. Everyone be sure to display those flags (if you aren't already) as is custom for the week of the 14th.
Since it is Flag Day, here's a link regarding the US Flag Code, WFS link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Flag_Code
It should help with those commenting on the display of the flag. At any rate, when displaying the flag against a wall indoors, vertically or horizontally, the flag's union (stars) should be at the top, to the flag's own right, and to the observer's left. Additionally, the flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of states, localities, or societies are grouped for display (on a site note- this was done properly by the affiliate in the video).
Also somebody asked about the flag as it is displayed on US Servicemen's unforms. The link also addresses this too.
Regarding the video of the Memorial Day WOD. Performing WODs such as these and Hero WODs are just ONE way we honor those who serve and those that have paid the ultimate price. We also go above and beyond in other ways of honoring them. One example being through fundraising activities like the Trevor Win'E Memorial Day Fundraiser.
Most of us "get it." Some don't. Those that don't hopefully will eventually; or, if not, will hopefully move along to sites more fitting for them.
MANY, MANY thanks to CrossFit by Overload for sharing the video. You guys looked great! Awesome job and kudos to the affiliate.

I’m one of the mediocre athletes IN the Memorial Day video. Thank you to those who’ve made intellectualized comments and thank you to all the men and women, past and present, who continue to fight to preserve our ability to have an opinion. I never would have believed that a group of people with the desire to Crossfit while concurrently honoring our soldiers on Memorial Day would warrant such ignorant responses. Certainly everybody is entitled to their opinion – we’ve established that. We are also entitled to honor and respect differently. Jason, you cannot reason with an unreasonable person, therefore I won’t reduce myself in trying; as we say at Overload, “Weak Sauce.” I will however advise Trip (#55), since he’s now stepped off his high horse, to step up to integrity. We honored the living and the dead and we at Overload didn’t have to “find just one” because some of us are “one,” or are married to “one,” or are otherwise related to or know “one.” I question how many people gave a moments thought about the meaning of Memorial Day as they barbecued and tossed back another drink. We are proud of who we are and what we do and feel great about the way in which we expressed it. If it made a soldier I’ll never meet feel loved, it was worth it. If it made the loved one of a soldier feel loved, it was worth it. It taught my daughters respect and appreciation as they watched us do our tribute as they too wonder if Daddy will come home from the fire station each day. If it inspired you, it inspired us too. If it didn’t, keep on Crossfitting - and Trip, as for your “ball-busting” workouts, yes many may do the workouts for that reason alone, however as it has been made quite clear, Crossfit is a community of those who serve, hence the naming of workouts after those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. If that creates dissension for you, you may be better suited at one of those “twenty four hour gyms.” Jordan and Paula, you are a pleasure to Crossfit with and are inspiring as you push us all. Thank you, and thank you Casey. Mrs. Knoxville - 33, 5'6", 118
Ok. I tried to read through all the posts, but I just couldn't do it. Between all the great posts, the long posts, the bickering posts, it was too much. I should have done this this morning. I served 5 years in the Marine Corps and then joined the Army so I could fly helicopters. In my 5 years in the Corps, I was involved in 4 Marine Corps birthdays. Each one was always more spectacular than the last one. Now that I've been in the Army for almost 5 years, I've realized that I'm never going to experience anything like that ever again. Today is the Army birthday and there isn't a damn thing going on for it. I commemorated 233 years of Army "excellence" with a Filthy Fifty (just a shade over 32 min). This is the best way I can think of to get this message out. I am very disgruntled that the Army doesn't care about it's origins, history, and traditions like the other services, but, oh well.......HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ARMY!
Happy Birthday, U.S. Army!
Proud to be a member of the greatest fighting force in the world.
How come you could not fly helicopters in the Corps?
USMC is the finest fighting organization! Fierce Professionals
Semper Fi!
Love the rest day.
Can't wait for Sunday -
Maybe I'll get "fran" for a Father's Day present.
Thanks Coach.

To the CrossFit Nation. You all ROCK!
Sorry for being a little off topic.

Right on. Loved your post.
Today was rest day. So I ran two miles, shoveled nine yards of top soil, planted three 12 foot pine trees. Couldn't do it without Crossfit.

well done, mrs. knoxville. i did "Trevor" that day and scaled my butt off. my "team" is not part of the affiliate that we went to, but are all now closer and support each others efforts just a bit more passionately after that experience. so, i hear ya, mrs knoxville. well done, CFO, well done.

You're right. Cesar already straightened me out accidentally.
I have nothing against the posting of the video, or those in it, but I'm inclined to agree to some degree with #55. I have to say that to me idea of honoring the military by doing some sort of workout is a bit, well, lame.
I love cf, and have been getting great results. I also love my country and, though I have not served in the military personally, many in my family (parents, grandparents, cousins, etc) have and do. Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect us and our freedoms deserve our profound respect, especially on memorial day. Is doing 4 thousand push ups a suitably respectful way to honor them? Maybe for some, and it is a personal matter, but it seem to me that doing a workout (however hard) is about YOU not about the fallen soldiers. For me a visit to grandpa's (30yr navy vet) grave with my boys is more appropriate.

couldn't rest today so I made my own WOD
5 rounds
400m
100 jump rope (or 50 du's)
10 wall balls
10 box jumps

Trying to listen to the cast, but they're playing in fast forward...
Andy, it appears that I was too busy being "long winded" and "writing my literary masterpiece" that I missed your apology.
Therefore, I apologize for not seeing your apology. :-)
Today was the Atlanta Area Affiliate Challenge, hosted by CrossFit North Atlanta. Travis, Kath, Tommy and the gang did a phenomenal job of organizing and running almost 200 folks through their "Grinder," a challenging obstacle course with rowing, thrusters, tire drags and more. It went smoothly, processing participants in heats that began every five minutes or so for almost four hours. In all, over 16 affiliates from all over north Georgia participated.
When all was said and done, we honored the Godfather of CrossFit in Atlanta, Dan MacDougald. Dan founded CrossFit Atlanta, the very first affiliate in Atlanta (and probabaly Georgia as well) several years ago. Since then, he has championed the cause and worked tirelessly to grow CrossFit in the area, and has been a mentor and friend to all of us who CrossFit here. The majority of the local affiliates spent a good portion of their CrossFit upbringing at CrossFit Atlanta before opening centers of their own, and Dan has helped to make us all who we are today. We cannot thank him enough.

My apologies. I checked on this from my end. Both IE and Firefox. Can't duplicate the problem.
Try going to my website http://fitzoneradio.com and click the rss/podcast in the PODCAST menu. 2nd menu from the top. Maybe that will work. Anyone out there smarter than me who knows this problem and can fix it?
Alex Europa "writing my literary masterpiece" was supposed to be: writing my "literary masterpiece". Get schooled.
A couple years ago I had to go in harm's way; unlike the armed services nobody was deployed with me. I was alone but was responsible for far more than just my own life. The odds were not favorable. I have wonderful friends and family back home, and I thought of them right before I stepped up, I wanted to see them again. Yeah yeah, dramatic-sounding stuff, I know. Really I just want to communicate, I've been there. My friends and family aren't athletes, just good people. I knew one thing they could all remember of me was inspiring everyone to drop and do a few push-ups together. It became something of a ritual: if I was around, we'd do push-ups. Some people scaled them, some people needed to learn, some of us followed tabatas with HSPU. This was before I'd found crossfit.
I sent a msg home once when things looked especially bad -- just said, hey, if it doesn't work out, you know what to do: drop and do 25 push-ups in my honor. And they echoed it. It fit fine, and it's all I could ask for. I want to see them all again, but knowing this means 'me' to them, it's a very comforting thought.
I'm really sorry if you don't or haven't known any veterans or service members or, and yes it's horrific when you've lost a friend, heroes.
But it's sadder not knowing, not having known, these people who worked so hard believing it was for something honorable and worthwhile -- for the freedom and prosperity the rest of us share. I can't imagine not having known men like Neal and Nate. I was lucky, too -- I grew up in a family of soldiers. We lost a brother and a son. But I grew up among solid patriots and count myself blessed for it.
That's the tragic thing for those of you who don't feel there's something special in doing a Hero WOD: you haven't been close to these people. They didn't mean anything to you personally.
I'm not offended; I just feel sorry for you. A lot of us have a lot more going on in these workouts. The world is a rich place when you can feel strongly, can empathize, when you have values to fight for and values you believe in the honoring of, and the protecting of.
It's just a workout to you -- sorry. I hope someday you'll be a bigger man with a greater commitment and a richer life. Then you can join in with those of us who have that.
You might just check out Overload's posts. I'm not sure of the exact definition of "mediocre" but they're putting out some terrific times. Jason, shut up, we're all "over you."
Anon.
That was a huge load of self-righteous crap. You feel sorry for us. What? Cause we're not like you? And who's to say we're not "bigger men" than you.
I think you're lying about those gushy feelings you get when you do a hero WOD just so you can put up a dramatic post and attempt to teach everybody a lesson with your false piety.
Wow. I can't believe all the reactions I'm getting here. You know, I read a lot of over-opinionated, long-winded comments on this site everyday, but I never once butted in to call somebody a "jerk" (Hari #83)
You seem to be arguing that you are a victim. First you were fooled into wasting your time watching a video, and now you are being unfairly insulted.
You are being a jerk. You asked (in a since deleted comment) for someone else to prescreen the videos so that you never have to see something that doesn't interest you.
Your analogy to watching television is a bad one. Television charges, either directly or indirectly through advertising. This site is free, and it has no obligation to maximize your personal entertainment value.
Well said Hari (124). Does Jason have somebody digest wods for him too? Step up man! As for Knoxville (104) couldn't have said it better. By the way, might just have to borrow 'Weak Sauce.' Later.
Today was the Atlanta Area CrossFit Challenge. It was the 5th for me and it was amazing. There were over 200 participants from just about every Georgia affiliate and it was great. Got a chance to see some old friends and met some new ones. Kath, Travis and Tommy froma CFNA did a wonderful job hosting, it was almost 4x's larger than the last challenge and they handled it like pro's....Thank you!! The WOD was crazy, as usual and I loved it.
The day ended with a special tribute to Coach Dan MacDougald, the "Godfather" of CrossFit (in Georgia)
Dan,
Thank you for everything that you have/are doing for ALL of us Atlanta area CrossFitters and affiliates. We will never be able to express how much you are truly appreciated.

You're wrong to presuppose what others feel and use to motivate their particular performances for WODs.
Similar to Comment #121 - Posted by: anon, all through yesterday's WOD ("Michael") I meditated strongly on thoughts of him and others like him. Halfway through round three on the 800 meter run when I was wanting to gas this is what pushed me to not only to continue but to suck it up and push harder. The reward, a 2+ minute PR and the thoughts that I put forth a more righteous effort...

Jason, I don't feel any gushy feelings. I enjoy the WODs. Usually I'm a bit too nervous about my times, often need to remind myself 'Hey just relax and do it.' I don't think about the heroes *while* I do them. Maybe others do, I don't know. But I've lost friends, and they're often in my thoughts, and I like that we do something -- er, in remembrance of them. (Hard to find better words right now.)
And yeah, I feel sorry that you haven't known these people so it isn't personal for you the way it is for me. It's true. Sorry, that's how I feel. It does color how I think about these things, and I admit I'm not objective.
A lot of the military members part of the Crossfit community know the term "silent professionals". Not saying a word of their past or what they have done. Not searching for medals to pin on their chest. Just doing their job because its what they love to do. Whether its for God, family or country in no particular order. A simple handshake received and a thank you for your service and all that you do goes a long way let alone a workout and a video. There is nothing lame about that video or the athletes in it. We are all in it together. This is a community. A community that we all choose to be a part of under the stars and stripes that we choose to live under. Thank you for that video. It was AWESOME to say the least.
Sometimes i feel that you are not allowed to crossfit unless you:
1. think war is a good thing
2. think global warming is a hoax
3. love jesus
4. watch 24 and mumble approvingly whenever jack bauer uses torture to get information.
Why is crossfit so politicized?
I thought it was about being fit?

United States of America: Making it hard for evil people to regroup and hit us again. Don't like it, then maybe your part of the problem.
Wow, there's a lot of hostility today. I am a veteran of both OEF and OIF and I lost a couple friends in each. It's a bummer to read people commenting like they've been, but the sacrifices my friends made were so that everyone continues to have the right to ensure the freedom to do so. I'm a firm believer in that fact. I love my country and my patriotism may not be shared by others, but that's cool. I think the negative commentors are just trying to stir things up and get people fired up. I find some of the comments completely inapropriate, like insulting someone's loss; way out of line. I think the best thing we can do is just drive on and let it go. Originally I wanted to challenge them and tell them to put up or shut up. Ask them what they've done or what they've sacrificed but it really doesn't matter. We in the community know what we've done and what we've lost. We honor those who have made that sacrifice and remember them in whatever way we see fit.
Can't wait for tomorrow's WOD and the radio interview with Coach was Awesome! It'd be killer to meet him.
Overload Great Idea and thanks for sharing your video.
131- dig the new cross-fit mission statement.
130- "War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things..the decayed and degraded state of MORAL and PATRIOTIC duty which things that nothing is worth war is far worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable CREATURE, and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exursions of better men than himself."

Move to some other of these great places and see how much better a quality of life you can attain. To all our brave men and women throughout the world thank you. To ALL of our fallen heroes THANK YOU and to the families know that you might be hurting inside but take solace in the fact your son or daughter paid the ultimate price for this great nation and our freedoms and that they never will stop loving you.
I've never been military, a fireman, or a police officer. I'm just a football coach with a great desire to be the best. To see the everyday people of CF and the elite warriors of CF is an inspiration to me and to all. Keep up the great work and continue to work hard.

Kim,
1) Most normal people here believe war is often necessary, but few think it is "good".
2) I think global warming is a hoax. However, our president, who I am sure you hate with all your passion, states quite clearly he thinks it is real.
3)As for loving Jesus, I guess you have missed all the scathing, hatefull responses here to anyone who dares say they even like Jesus.
4) Is 24 even on anymore? But yeah, for a while I lived vicariously through Jack as he tortured a soldier from the religion of peace. But it got old.
Dan, from America, where everyone hates us while they try their darndest to be just like us.

I agree with you, every now and then I will glance through these posts and its amazing to see the digression of it all. Just get what you need out of crossfit, and give back what you can to friends and your community. I dont really bother posting anymore because its just a shouting contest and drama fest here. I would love to go visit Sweden sometime, I hear its great up there!
Greg x2346346...Kim is part of the problem?? What are you talking about, because she disagrees with American policy? I disagree with a lot of it as well, am I part of the problem? Give me some tips and I'll try to stop being part of the problem in between my tours to Iraq.

I hear you man, I think the sacrifices you have made give you a good perspective on everything, I wish you the best of luck and will see ya down the road someday...
re#127 AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH, TRIP! you dropped the "f" bomb! you said (shhhhhhh)........FART....u r eeeeeeeevillll
y'all, I am truly just trying to joke around here, ya know, add a little levity, irony, satire, all that.
Whatever, I'm goin to bed laughing
Well, I feel stupid. The post I commented on is gone. I do not know how to delete something all ready posted, so if anyone knows how and can, feel free to delete #140 as my comment is irrelevant....as always
But I'm still gonna go to bed laughing
Someone has some pull because my post was yanked off within a couple of minutes. I guess if you don't like the truth, pretend it does'nt exist. That is fine I forgive who ever did it because, I feel silly for getting caught up in all of this over such a silly video. I do wish to maintain all mandated propriety. My apologies to whom it may concern.
trip #142: This is a private site. The owners have a right to edit as they see fit. The people who do this *free* site that they have every right to charge as much as they want decided to *freely* make it available. Just try to be civil and considerate.
As far as Jason is concerned, why do you have to be defensive and touchy? Have you seen any of the other videos they did? I drew the conclusion they took a risk, got rid of the globo gym stuff, and made a wholesale commitment to CrossFit (look it up under "transformation"). That was gutsy on their part. I'm sure those people just started CrossFit. It just shows elite fitness is achievable; you have to start somewhere. I say it took a lot of guts what they did. I can't help but respect that.
Slightly off topic, but am I the only one who gets visited by Pukie the clown's friend Duncie after a hard workout? Seems whenever I do a really hard metcon workout I turn into a complete imbecile for about 30 min afterward until I restock my fluids and cool off in the shower. Sometimes it's hard to even talk, let alone walk or think. Anyway, I see Duncie quite often, just wondered if anyone else did too.
Jordan & Paula,
I am not sure who these people are that post and feel the need to comment on the good that you are trying to share with the community. All I know is this....keep doing what you are doing, it is with the utmost respect that I say that what you are doing is admirable and respectable. People will be haters and/or they will not always agree....it is with heart and honor that I ask you to continue to do what you believe in...you have my support today and always!
Love you guys!
I am 53 years old and can't make it to the gym at certain times of the year, but when I go I love to honor the men and women who represent us on the field of battle or during the times of relative peace. It doesn't matter if I agree with the government or not. What I agree with is that these individuals have decided for whatever reason to go and stand on the fence and put themselves in harms way if need be when the government says to go get in harms way. So what if all I can do is a half a 'Murph'. What I can do is for that 30 minutes honor one great man who gave his life for his fellow man. So keep the memorial video coming. Honor and cherish the memory of these great men who actually are and were just average men and women just like you and me!
25/m/150
did 5 snatches, 5 thrusters 70#, 10 DU, 10 PU, ran 200
5 rounds 20:01
Sigh.
CrossFit needs a good house cleaning.
I miss the old days.
Here is a quote from an earlier comment:
I meditated strongly on thoughts of him and others like him. Halfway through round three on the 800 meter run when I was wanting to gas this is what pushed me to not only to continue but to suck it up and push harder. The reward, a 2+ minute PR and the thoughts that I put forth a more righteous effort...
So, what's going on here? The poster was inspired by thinking of a killed soldier to push harder in their wod. And wow! A new PR! Awesome!
This kind of sentiment kind of give me a queasy feeling. Dying for ones country, and doing a killer workout are millions and millions and millions and MILLIONS of miles apart. Linking fitness training with real people who are dying on the battlefield every day is, frankly, abhorrent to me. Why do we do this? Let's honor the very deserving military in appropriate ways, not use it as cheap inspiration to up our cindy count or whatever.
Ok, fame me. I'm ready.
i meant "flame me" not fame me, obv. (infame me?)
Good Shepherd - yes, I meet Duncie, and every so often, Pukie's very evil cousin Thumpie who causes migraines....someone else mentioned this either today or very recently. Thumpie is worse than Pukie, because Pukie visits and leaves. Thumpie is like malaria - comes, stays a while, leaves and does it over and over at various intervals.
I kinda think it has to do with aging...
my two cents...
Remember the military includes all types of Americans. I'm deployed, I'm what is now called "liberal" and love the Army after 15 years. But I'm conservative when it comes to my oath to "protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic" and the principles this country was founded on. And pretty pisssed off at the hypocrisy of many who are quick to run up a flag or slap a sticker on their car, yet forget the reasons why America was founded, what made it so special, unusual, and good.
"all men are created equal" (wait a minute... aren't we Americans endowed by the Creator with special right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?)
"the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial" (Guantanamo?)
"nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted" (torture?)
and I think fitness to honor dead veterans is a little cheesy. but that's just me. at the end of "Saving Private Ryan" when Tom Hanks' character is dying, his last words are to Ryan: "James... earn this. Earn it." so, to really honor the fallen: live your life the best you can. Make America the best that you can. Be worthy of the sacrifice that was paid for you to enjoy your life.
Crossfit is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When I was young, my parents were told that physical activites would be very difficult for me. As I grew my family encouraged me to take on physical challenges anyway. I did. With some help from above and many of the exercises found in Crossfit, I overcame some pretty big obstacles and managed some degree of athletic success. Today, I enjoy being in the best shape of my life, thanks to Crossfit. I usually do Cindy in 25 rounds and my CFT is usuallly around 750-760. I am 37 year old male and I stand 5'4" and weigh about 164. While these are modest numbers I think this what Crossfit is about, overcoming obstacles.
dmic comment 149 / 150 Hero Workouts are not an appropriate way to honor our fallen
Remembering our fallen heroes allows their story to continue to live. At Crossfit we choose to honor fallen heroes with difficult workouts and links to their stories on our website. I believe that this is quite fitting in light of how these heroes lived their lives. I was in Special Operations for over 20 years and physical training was (and still is) a very large part of my life. I love to let people know when they ask at my gym, "hey what kind of workout are you doing?" I answer something like "I'm doing a workout that crossfit calls Michael, in honor of Michael McGreevy, a Navy Hero who died in Afghanistan. If you want to know more you can read about it on crossfit.com" This allows other people to get to know Michael.
dmic: Remember that crossfit is a fitness community. Our community is mostly comprised of fitness minded people with a conservative / libertarian point of view. We choose to work our bodies for three days at a time and our brains (through debate) on our rest day. This makes our community tight and you are a welcome part of it. Choosing to remember our fallen heroes in any way is better than not doing anything at all.
Everyone here knows that our effort is many degrees removed from the efforts of our military service members serving in harms way but we are doing what we can.
Have Fun, Train Hard,
Billy

excellent comment I agree based on what is being said and read -a bailout will hurt us all especially the middle class and upper class...the only people for it are the ones that got burned buying what they couldnt afford. we need to live within our means and not expect someone else to pay for your mistakes. I do understand that there are certain circumstances that may make someone lose their financial status but the problem has become more general because of those expecting
the government to step in for them. Just my opinion anyway.
That video was very inspiring...its nice to remember those lost as much as can possible. Thank you Coach for keeping their memory alive....
Billy, #153 -
Excellent post. Couldn't have said it better.
Respect and Honor.

Did a cool workout while waiting for my hotelroomate to get done in the shower. Jesus, I had noe idea that Tabata this was something else. I've done tabata running quite a few times, but tabata somekind of exercise. Djeez.
Something like this:
tabata pushups: 23-19-15-9-4-2-2-3
Tabata Squats: 23-23-17-15-17-15-16
Those pushups were just disgusting. Well, I did them with strict form and a very close grip, I'll use that to my defence!
You know, with respect to the economy, this is nothing more or less than a problem with causes and solutions. Reviewing history, all recessions end, and all problems are solved, provided we keep at them, and don't run around like chicken littles.
We need to save more as a nation. Part of the problem, in my view, is that there is so much money to be made in banking--and so many business school graduates lined up to become millionaire's in their thirties, if not twenties--that we have really stopped trying to make things, and turned our focus to making money.
In the short term, making money through selling things is what capitalism is all about. It shouldn't matter to our aspiring millionaire if they are selling paper, paper clips, cars, or money. It's all the same.
And in practice, they treat them the same. What I don't see prevalent in our econcomic/business life is pride. Pride in work. Pride in craftsmanship, however that may be expressed.
What is valued? Money, and the power and status it brings.
For my own analytical purposes, I discern four principle political groupings: traditional conservatives, what I term Randian libertarians, leftists, and the confused.
There is a close but not exact overlay between traditional conservatism and the "religious right". Basically, it is old fashioned people, with old fashioned values. Perhaps paradoxically for regular readers of this forum, I see no reason in principle that Democrats cannot be a part of this group. Joe Lieberman is a part of this group. Anyone who has a clear, non-contradictory vision for this nation that truly values our liberal heritage, our freedoms, and which means well for us, is included here.
Randian libertarians in effect take the motto "Greed is Good" to heart, and elevate selfishness to a principle virtue. I see a lot of businessmen and women who would fit this profile. They tend to be Republicans (they keep more money), but otherwise spend their time chasing skirts, cheating employees, drinking, playing golf, and patting each other on the back.
Now, I agree that ultimately some form of selfishness is at the root of all possible virtues, but I think it needs to be a selfishness tied to a developed self awareness. Most of the things we have been taught will make us happy in this hedonistic age, don't. Sects and money don't, in my view. They just act as sopophorics, and stimulants, depending on your mood. Like the actual drug$ money makes available, they distance consciousnes; they dont' develop it.
Leftists value conformity, which in general is found in communal outrage, choreographed carefully by our Mainstream media. They do not value reasoned discourse, actual progress, or success in the achievements of peace, prosperity, and racial harmony. I vent about them constantly, so I'll leave that be for now.
People who are lost, have stopped trying to participate in our public life. They may or may not vote, but if they do they are highly influenced by superficial factors, and don't have any principled basis for making any decisions.
Returning to the topic of the day, the reality is that the excess credit made possible by the sheer volume of money out there in effect creates personal liquidity that in times past came from savings.
You can blow your whole check every week, knowing that if your car breaks down, you can charge it, or pull money from the line of credit tied to your home.
Yet, this is obviously not true liquidity. It is merely a corrective to short term cash flow problems, but quite obviously not a sound systemic solution from a personal finance perspective.
I wonder sometimes if the entitlement mentality we have allowed to develop in the "underprivileged" classes has not flowed upwards in some fashion, psychologically, to create nearly ubiquitous habits of feeling we deserve more than we can afford. If the poor don't have to work for their bread, why should I go without when I do work so hard?
This is a complex issue, and this is not the only factor involved.
Another is this sense that happiness flows in to you ("if you don't think money buys happiness, you don't know where to shop"), rather than being something you create within yourself in your mode of interacting with the world, which then flows outward.
These are a few random thoughts. I hadn't intended to say this much, but my fingers kept moving.
Net net this will end too. Those of you who lose your jobs, figure out how to be useful, and you will get another. If you don't lose your job, then this is not a big deal.
My grandfather liked to tell the story of the man who met a wise man, and asked him how to cheer himself up when times were bad, and how to avoid overconfidence when times were good. The man gave him a ring. On the inside was engraved:
Always remember, this too shall pass.
Mods, you can delete anything left in the filter from me.
I will add, I watched the video. I liked it. Those were a bunch of normal Americans dedicating themselves in public both to the commemoration of sacrifices they can't repay, and to working to build a better world, by working to improve themselves.
This, to me, is the way you remember the fallen properly. Tears and pain are understandable, but ultimately what they created for us is a continuing chance to improve the world. We remember them by persevering in our quest to be a model of justice and freedom, not least by combining both unprecedented power, and unprecedented restraint in its use.
We remember them by teaching ourselves to think, and by teaching ourselves about the world we live in.
It's always worth rereading the Gettysburg Address, in this regard. I have posted it on several Memorial Days. Here it is again.

I would encourage all of you to spend a few minutes reading, and them contemplating it. Democracy need not have succeeded. The smart money was against us. Many--most--thought we would fail.
But we haven't. Not yet. And we need never, as long as power and passion still live in the hearts of those whose wills are tempered by goodness.
That was the most moving video that I've seen on this site. Thanks CF Overload for what you did, it means a lot.
A few (not all) of the people who can't understand why we chose to honor our nations fallen soldiers, policemen, and firemen with a hero workout (dedicated to their memory) might just be anti-war pacifists. They hate the thought of war for any reason. They would rather lay down and be run over, then stand up and fight. That is fine with me. When they are dead, I will remember them on my rest days when I lay down and go to sleep.
I personally think the hero workouts are a great way to honor our nations fallen soldiers, policemen, and firemen. It allows us to remember them. They can no longer run, jump, or fight, but we can, and we should!
Many of us here put our lives on the line daily so others can continue to enjoy their lives safely. Those of us who have made it our profession to defend, preserve, and protect our nations citizens should be remembered. To forget just means you take your freedom for granted!
The reason we place a marker on a grave is so we can remember. The reason we name ships after men is so we can remember. The reason we name sections of roadway after men is so we can remember. The reason Christians take communion is so Jesus can be remembered. We honor many people in many ways after they have moved on, so the work they did while they lived with us is never forgotten.
So we as a CrossFit community remember and HONOR our nations heroes with a WOD in their name. If it causes us to push ourselves to train harder and be stronger; then the sting of death from their sacrifice will be our victory when we face our own enemies, God willing.

It is pretty sad to know that the next time I go over there, I'll be fighting for the very freedom allowing these kinds of bullshit comments I've been reading about for the last half hour.
