awesome pic! this is the third picture or video from our lev 1 cert in SC! tosh doing grace and fight gone bad from a couple weeks ago were the others. i was serious about my workouts before this cert and came home fired up! now i am now part owner of my affiliate and we are painting our new box that will be open in a couple weeks go to crossfit5280.com for pics and progress. thanks crossfit!!!!!

To make a long story short, after drowning our sorrows away last night (NHL: canucks lost their shot at the playoffs) woke up at 4pm at a friend's house and spent most of the day nursing a hangover, by the time i got to the gym it was closed :(

in 15 mins-ish

This comment is actually related to yesterdays WOD "Gwen". I read a great blurb on the Santa Cruz website before doing this WOD and it really hit home during the workout. It simply stated that when we get tired during pull-ups we come off the bar, or during cleans we drop the load, but during rope climbs we somehow always hang on. The difference being that we have no choice but to hold on until we reach the ground. This comes from an inherent fear of falling or dying I imagine. Makes sense. So why not apply this to WOD's.
Well in keeping with true crossfit tradition I decided to try and push past normal limits during this workout. I grabbed my bar, stood it up and made it quite clear to myself that I would finish all 15 reps. No excuses. If I can hold onto a rope for dear life i can hold onto this bar as well. In the end the philosophy held true, I completed all sets without rest and then rolled around on the ground for a bit wondering if the feeling would come back to my hands. Glady, eventually, it did.
All in all, i believe as a society of WOD addicts we certainly try to push ourselves on a day to day basis past personal limits, hopefully with new revelations on how we mentally approach and prepare for training we will become better at what we do. Until then just try to stay on the rope, lol.

I'm not sure who the trainer is, but I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking "Ben Stiller" while watching him train the Level I's. It's a good job he's doing, he's just channeling someone while he's at it.

That was disappointing.

I was getting off to a nice start, when I let my back curve on a 105kg squat and tweaked my back. I had to pull way back on DLs. Hence:

BS 100kg (f 105)
SP 47.5kg (f 50 - yesterday's jerks!)
DL 130kg (only one DL after warmup, didn't try any higher)

TOTAL 277.5kg - 611#

I am with you Jeff & Charity (#20), I immediatly though that was Ben Stiller. Chris (#22), I agree with you too. This was much more difficult than normal clean and jerks. I definatly spent some time on the ground after each set. My forearms were burning and my grip was slipping around rep number 10 in the first set, and it was totally gone by the 6th rep on the second set. I would like to try this for time and see how different it feels if I dump the load or re-grip as needed. Maybe I'll give it a try on my next "rest" day.

After a month I took a 5 week break to do SS and build up a bit and then just 3 weeks ago I got back to crossfit. That was Pat from Virginia Beach doing the instructional, correct?

Pat is the bomb. 6-7 months ago, he made 2 corrections in my muscleup form, and, despite having not been able to get one prior to that, banged a few out like breakin sticks! World of respect for him and for Thomi, and hope to see more from them in the future.

Did "Gwen" yesterday at my local globo gym. While going through my CFWU saw the "trainers" and staff eating Munchkin' Dunkin' Donuts behind the wall seperating the admin area from the rest of the facility. What a joke! I would bet they went out on the floor after that and preached about the pitfalls of poor nutrition. How pathetic! It's really amazing to see such a contradiction. I've been doing CF for about 1 year now and have felt amazing and seen dramtic results. Thank you Coach for TRUE fitness protocols.

I don't have a squat rack, so squats on smith machine. Tried to go below vertical. I used normal bar for shoulder press, but had to clean it first.

Squat - 154 + hollow smith bar. Did 160, but didn't got low enough. Failed on 2nd try
Shoulder Press - 121. Failed to clean at 128. Used weight belt for safety on the clean part as my form is bad.
Deadlift 178 - No weightbelt.

I'm a little disappointed today. Got 315 with ease on squat but got stuck at the top on 335 and 330. I quess I shouldn't have gone up so much. Felt a twing in my back on d-lift with 345 so I stopped as soon as I felt it. Don't want to risk an injury for a total.

Interesting video. I don't like to use a wall for clients, due to the limitions placed on the hips. As I dip, my knees bend and extend over my toes while my hips tilt slightly forward causing my butt to protrude, pushing me away from the wall. Or, should there be no hip tilt in the dip & drive?

Today was supposed to be a rest day for me. I've never done CFT so I figured I'd see where I was at. Though I've done each move to see what my max is, this is the first time I did them back to back in the CFT.

I guess I better work on the squats and press. Afterward I practiced kipping pull ups because I suck worse at those than I do at the press.

well I am still in the 1000 lb club barely dropped 10 lbs in DL. I need to work on that. I worked my ass off to get into the grander club so I need to motivate myself. Just started Paleo so maybe now I will see some improvent instead of this plateau.

Previous best was 915# at CF Games in 2007. My squat was 335#, press was 175#, deadlift was 405#. Apparently being fat helped me squat and press. I expected to have a big loss in the squat, I'm disappointed about the press. Happy about the deadlift though - didn't think I'd get more than 375#.

Business travel to Chicago so no WOD's this weekend.

What a treat yesterday! I met Larry L who gave me a native's tour of the Chicago that tourists don't see! Larry is one of the CF OG's, around since 2003, so I also got lots of CF history as well.

This CF is a very, very special place, a very special community. I email a fellow CF'er whom I've never met and he takes a day off to show me his city; now I have a new friend, and who can't use another friend? Thanks again, Larry.

thought all lifts would be better, especially the press. anyone else find this to be true after clean/jerk yesterday?? sidenote: attempted 300# deadlift, got it, but with bad form. didn't count it.

Terrible day.

I've been looking forward to CFT for a couple of weeks. Still on nights so felt weak before i started. Dont know if it cause of nightshift and the fact that its difficult to eat right when on nights.

Well, apart from a PR in low weight this decade, this is the first time I have tried the crossfit total. I did not quite max myself out, as I am still working on form and don't really feel like hurting myself (any more than necessary)

Today at my gym there was a page on the bulletin board "Workout of the Week" and under that "sample Crossfit workout". Basically the CFWU with dumbbell swings. It's quite a joke considering the entire place is so packed full of machines that there is hardly any room to do a clean. Somebody must have heard about Crossfit but they still don't get it.

Unbelievable Workout. on 4-3 We did Fran and today was Survivor. I have been doing as much crossfit as I could at home and just now joined the Wasatch Crossfit. No comparison, the gym wins hands down. Im still a bit shakey from workout, but lovin it! This is my first time of working with weight and being pushed to succeed. its an awesome feeling of giving all you have.

Since I am new to Crossfit and this is only my 3rd WOD I thought I wasn't quite ready for a Crossfit Total. So I had to make up for the workout I missed from Wednesday, but modified.

4 Rounds for time:
20 Regular Situps
15 Goodmornings

Time 7 minutes 54 seconds.

My wife did it in 8 minutes 16 seconds.

This was tougher than I thought. My first 3 WODs and I love this stuff. It sure beats my old workouts. Thanks again guys.

Finally got 225 at the squat! Now if I could only get 135 on the press. I thought my pr was 160 on DL so I started too aggressively and it cost me a pr. The second and third ones were just like Brendon's demo at the Valencia cert Q:What happens if you try to deadlift too much with correct form? A:Nothing, it just doesn't move. So, big thanks to Coach, Brendon and JRock for inspiring me to keep my discipline.

Still stronger on total than last November, which is keeping me off the ledge! Oh, and I recently found out I have lost weight and am down to 165 at 6'1". Ugh.

Hand grip stuff between sets and 500m easy row cool off.

Missed out on the total today, but did enjoy visiting Front Range Crossfit in Denver Colorado.

Saying "these guys have a great gym" would be a collosal understatement. The facility is clean, it has every piece of equipment you could want, but most importantly, the people there are all genuine and extremely nice.

Today they hosted a "Tactical Strength Challenge". They orchestrated with precision 22 men and I think 12 women competitors (hopefully someone else can verify or correct that).

I saw some tremendous things being done and huge accomplishemnts being made. I didn't get to congratulate everyone on personal bests and amazing feats of fortitude...there were just too many.

Anyway, just a huge thanks to Skip and Front Range Crossfit for putting this event on. Anyone that has an opportunity to visit them, I would recommend it. When your done there, come visit us down at Crossfit at Village Fitness in Castle Rock.

Your DL is pretty good but definatly work on that squat haha. A good way to not get stuck is to not become motionless, meaning as you lower the bar down, begin to push off your heels instead of weighting to reach the bottom of the squat. So always give the bar some resistance. But yeh, for alight Squat you have a good Deadlift, gj.

My first real Crossfit total. Previously I have added up my 1,1,1,1,1,1 max days for the lifts and estimated it, but today I set up for the real thing. By far my longest Crossfit WOD ever, I spent over an hour max these lifts!

first time I've done cft, the shoulder press was wierd for me because you had to stand still no leg movement. And that was hard after doing so many jerks. I know I could of got more on the squat but I had no spotter and wouldn't chance it.

Strategy is to sub 3 reps for safety on squats and deadlifts.

Didn't do 3d squat; felt I maxed out on 2nd rep. Could have gone higher on the DLs. Had to hurry through to get my son to hockey practice.

Lower back still tweaked, so ran a 5k and then did a metcon workout from navyseals.com

5k - 24 mins

Then alternating 1 min on/1 min off 5 rounds of the following (so 25 mins work, 25 mins rest)

1 pood kb swings
Situps
burpees
push press (65lbs)
mountain climbers (4 jumps = 1 rep)

50 minutes - 599 total.

Not really bothered by my lack of progress on this total. Same squat, but we haven't really worked heavy squats in a while, gained 5 lbs on the dl, lost 10 on the press, but after yesterdays c&j fest, I'm not surprised.

What did surprise me is after the wod, I did muscle up practice and got 5 in a row without regripping. Very happy with that.

I am a bit miffed. When we lose a soldier in here there are many comments about loss and we are going to send thoughts and prayers and while I guess most just posted their numbers and left if you read the posts the Canadian military lost a member today in Afghanistan. Any of us that are willing to put our lives on the line deserve a strong send off so dragoon my prayers are with I assume your friend. I have played out my days and have since left the service but I will always support those that defend and sacrifice their lives for the ability for us to enjoy ours.

this suuuuuuuuuuucked. i did terribly. 145 shoulder press was easy, 155 was impossible. 225 back squat was ok, 255 i failed twice. 315 deadlift, which i did last time we had CFT, i couldn't get past 6" off the ground. i got disgusted and did like 7 reps at 225 and called it quits. i blame being sick plus doing this after another cf workout, plus doing c&j the previous day. bahhhhhhhh.

Went to Mike Mc's new affiliate gym in Niceville, FL today...He kicked my ass with a workout that seemed familiar, but may have been one he concocted. Either way, it kicked ass and kicked my ass. I finished it in 18 something...(it was one of those 5 rounds for time dealios).

D-lift was VERY sketchy. couldn't keep a good grip. my PR for d-lift is 475, so I expected more. but I struggled on the first lift, scratched the second, and barely made the third. My shoulder is injured currently, so no shoulder press.
But I got two new PR's by 5 pounds in squat and deadlift.

With a conservative estimate of 130 for shoulder press, I would have had a Crossfit Total of 800.
Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until next time to truly beat the 800 mark.

Last time (Feb. 18, 2007 @ 259bw): 335 sq, 165 ohp, 405dl.

This time: bw 250, exact same lifts: total 905. Squat @ 315 flew up, but form deteriorated quickly. Probably could have gotten 345, but failed at 365.

Deadlift at 405 was much easier than every before at that weight, but my form was deteriorating badly so decided not to lift anymore.

Pissed. My max DL is 310...shot for 315 to get 2x bodyweight. I couldn't get more than a few inches off the ground...dropped weight and same with 305. I think Gwen hit me harder than I thought and I just couldn't pull. Definitely felt it in my low back.
On the plus side, I'm stronger pound for pound. REALLY looking forward to the deadlifts in a few days.

Last CFT I did was 11/28/07 (6 months ago).

Stopped Starting Strength a few months ago with 5RM's of Squat (180#) and Deadlift(255#). Haven't done much heavy lifting since then, and lost most of the weight that I'd put on in the process, so I don't think it ended up having much of a positive effect in the long run... no point in gaining if you can't maintain it.

Squat - Previous CFT: 190#

Press - Previous CFT: 125#

Reps: 120, 130, 140


Deadlift - Previous CFT: 275# (bad form)

Squat: 200 (PR by 10#)
Press: 140 (PR by 15#)

CFT: 600

Finally got into the 600 club!

My squats are notoriously weak, so I'm happy to see them finally break into the 200's. They are the one major thing holding back my CFT. I could have done 205 I think.

Press felt great; 7 pounds short of bodyweight.

Could have gone higher on the deadlift, but think form would have suffered, as was the case on my previous 275# PR. Form felt better this time, but wish I'd video taped it. Might do another 1RM deadlift day some time soon just to get a form check.

Next up: 625 club
