I Love Max Effort days. When your a newbie then everyday is a PR!
Awesome! It has been some times since I did any ME work, should be interesting!
After today my CF total will probably be about 11 lbs!
I'm stuck in hotel in London! Can't do this one til I get back.

Woohoo, this is the closest to the top I have ever been.
Max out day! This is where we see if doing Fran and all the other workouts from the last week or so are gonna pay off...
M/145/16yo
Proper use of the term "sh*t-ton!" Rad!
Hum, will be interesting as I have been working wounded some this 'rotation.'
Have to look at my old numbers to see what I should shoot for!!
Karin
This should be fun.....
How do most of yall approach this..
30%, 50%, 75% -> 100%?
What says yall?
Today's workout was great!
#2 - I thought this would come as well. I know it says one rep, but is it the best out of three reps per exercise?
That's pro MMA fighter Jason MacDonald 2nd from the left! Watch for him @ UFC 83 on April 19!

To make a long story short, after drowning our sorrows away last night (NHL: canucks lost their shot at the playoffs) woke up at 4pm at a friend's house and spent most of the day nursing a hangover, by the time i got to the gym it was closed :(

This comment is actually related to yesterdays WOD "Gwen". I read a great blurb on the Santa Cruz website before doing this WOD and it really hit home during the workout. It simply stated that when we get tired during pull-ups we come off the bar, or during cleans we drop the load, but during rope climbs we somehow always hang on. The difference being that we have no choice but to hold on until we reach the ground. This comes from an inherent fear of falling or dying I imagine. Makes sense. So why not apply this to WOD's.
Well in keeping with true crossfit tradition I decided to try and push past normal limits during this workout. I grabbed my bar, stood it up and made it quite clear to myself that I would finish all 15 reps. No excuses. If I can hold onto a rope for dear life i can hold onto this bar as well. In the end the philosophy held true, I completed all sets without rest and then rolled around on the ground for a bit wondering if the feeling would come back to my hands. Glady, eventually, it did.
All in all, i believe as a society of WOD addicts we certainly try to push ourselves on a day to day basis past personal limits, hopefully with new revelations on how we mentally approach and prepare for training we will become better at what we do. Until then just try to stay on the rope, lol.
I'm not sure who the trainer is, but I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking "Ben Stiller" while watching him train the Level I's. It's a good job he's doing, he's just channeling someone while he's at it.

comment #22 doest make sense i am going to do that from now on.
A whole lotta MHF in that pic. Most everyone is forward on the foot. Toes anyone?
How can your butt be 'back' when it is against the wall?
Strong knee position for sure.
Uhm yeah.
That was disappointing.
I was getting off to a nice start, when I let my back curve on a 105kg squat and tweaked my back. I had to pull way back on DLs. Hence:
BS 100kg (f 105)
SP 47.5kg (f 50 - yesterday's jerks!)

viva la revolution!
I am with you Jeff & Charity (#20), I immediatly though that was Ben Stiller. Chris (#22), I agree with you too. This was much more difficult than normal clean and jerks. I definatly spent some time on the ground after each set. My forearms were burning and my grip was slipping around rep number 10 in the first set, and it was totally gone by the 6th rep on the second set. I would like to try this for time and see how different it feels if I dump the load or re-grip as needed. Maybe I'll give it a try on my next "rest" day.

Yep, that's Jason MacDonald. I've hear rumors that he's opening an affiliate. He was a machine before - imagine him after a year of CrossFit! Scary stuff!

Well I was introduced to crossfit by some friends that I work with, and started in late January. After a month I took a 5 week break to do SS and build up a bit and then just 3 weeks ago I got back to crossfit. Been reading the board and telling myself I need to start posting numbers, so here's my first post. Very first crossfit total and looking to improve.

Been at 165 on press for 5 months. Can't get over the hump! I'd like to try 170 but the Marines here are too hard for 2.5 lb plates.
That was Pat from Virginia Beach doing the instructional, correct?
Pat is the bomb. 6-7 months ago, he made 2 corrections in my muscleup form, and, despite having not been able to get one prior to that, banged a few out like breakin sticks! World of respect for him and for Thomi, and hope to see more from them in the future.
(Thought that I would pop in and make a surprise appearance!) Hope all is well with everyone!
CFT...GET IT!
3...2..1...get some and GO!
My first time posting
Did "Gwen" yesterday at my local globo gym. While going through my CFWU saw the "trainers" and staff eating Munchkin' Dunkin' Donuts behind the wall seperating the admin area from the rest of the facility. What a joke! I would bet they went out on the floor after that and preached about the pitfalls of poor nutrition. How pathetic! It's really amazing to see such a contradiction. I've been doing CF for about 1 year now and have felt amazing and seen dramtic results. Thank you Coach for TRUE fitness protocols.

A fond farewell:
I am off to a different website for a while. But I will never stop Crossfitting. I am heading to specialtactics.com to do the SOFPWODs on their forum. I'm gonna miss working out (in spirit if not in person) with all of you. What a great bunch of intelligent, sexy, madly fit people. Thanks Coach for your insight and ingenuity. And thanks to all the people who pitch in and make this website possible.
I'm sure I'll be coming back for the main site WODs eventually. And I know I'll be visiting for some heated debate on rest days :) God bless, and vive la revolución!

I don't have a squat rack, so squats on smith machine. Tried to go below vertical. I used normal bar for shoulder press, but had to clean it first.
Squat - 154 + hollow smith bar. Did 160, but didn't got low enough. Failed on 2nd try
Shoulder Press - 121. Failed to clean at 128. Used weight belt for safety on the clean part as my form is bad.
Deadlift 178 - No weightbelt.

I'm a little disappointed today. Got 315 with ease on squat but got stuck at the top on 335 and 330. I quess I shouldn't have gone up so much. Felt a twing in my back on d-lift with 345 so I stopped as soon as I felt it. Don't want to risk an injury for a total.
Interesting video. I don't like to use a wall for clients, due to the limitions placed on the hips. As I dip, my knees bend and extend over my toes while my hips tilt slightly forward causing my butt to protrude, pushing me away from the wall. Or, should there be no hip tilt in the dip & drive?

Today was supposed to be a rest day for me. I've never done CFT so I figured I'd see where I was at. Though I've done each move to see what my max is, this is the first time I did them back to back in the CFT.
I guess I better work on the squats and press. Afterward I practiced kipping pull ups because I suck worse at those than I do at the press.

Business travel to Chicago so no WOD's this weekend.
What a treat yesterday! I met Larry L who gave me a native's tour of the Chicago that tourists don't see! Larry is one of the CF OG's, around since 2003, so I also got lots of CF history as well.
This CF is a very, very special place, a very special community. I email a fellow CF'er whom I've never met and he takes a day off to show me his city; now I have a new friend, and who can't use another friend? Thanks again, Larry.
And thank you, Coach, for letting me have a place at the CF table.

A couple of fire stations around my neighborhood (SOHO)we might find some interest. If interested email me at: impart76155@mypacks.net.

Today at my gym there was a page on the bulletin board "Workout of the Week" and under that "sample Crossfit workout". Basically the CFWU with dumbbell swings. It's quite a joke considering the entire place is so packed full of machines that there is hardly any room to do a clean. Somebody must have heard about Crossfit but they still don't get it.
First time doing a ME since High School (1992). I approached it very cautiously since I'm waiting for my SS book to come in the mail and I don't want to injure myself.

Unbelievable Workout. on 4-3 We did Fran and today was Survivor. I have been doing as much crossfit as I could at home and just now joined the Wasatch Crossfit. No comparison, the gym wins hands down. Im still a bit shakey from workout, but lovin it! This is my first time of working with weight and being pushed to succeed. its an awesome feeling of giving all you have.
Thanks Wasatch Crossfit!

Since I am new to Crossfit and this is only my 3rd WOD I thought I wasn't quite ready for a Crossfit Total. So I had to make up for the workout I missed from Wednesday, but modified.

The second and third ones were just like Brendon's demo at the Valencia cert Q:What happens if you try to deadlift too much with correct form? A:Nothing, it just doesn't move. Missed out on the total today, but did enjoy visiting Front Range Crossfit in Denver Colorado.
Saying "these guys have a great gym" would be a collosal understatement. The facility is clean, it has every piece of equipment you could want, but most importantly, the people there are all genuine and extremely nice.
Today they hosted a "Tactical Strength Challenge". They orchestrated with precision 22 men and I think 12 women competitors (hopefully someone else can verify or correct that).
I saw some tremendous things being done and huge accomplishemnts being made. I didn't get to congratulate everyone on personal bests and amazing feats of fortitude...there were just too many.
Anyway, just a huge thanks to Skip and Front Range Crossfit for putting this event on. Anyone that has an opportunity to visit them, I would recommend it. When your done there, come visit us down at Crossfit at Village Fitness in Castle Rock.

Your DL is pretty good but definatly work on that squat haha. A good way to not get stuck is to not become motionless, meaning as you lower the bar down, begin to push off your heels instead of weighting to reach the bottom of the squat. So always give the bar some resistance. But yeh, for alight Squat you have a good Deadlift, gj.
No Shoulder press, still nursing bad right shoulder.

First time first week of crossfit. Had not squatted in about 20 years, and never dead lifted. Very very nervous about hurting my back. Need to work on form!!
1st CFT:
SP: 100 (PR, and i thought my push press max was 90!)
BS: 100 (only because no rack, that's all i could get overhead)
DL: 224 (PR, and all the weight I own)
Total:424
And the FAQ rankings say "intermediate" is 451....O for a squat rack....
Prayers sent for the fallen Canadian troops, as well as our own.

this suuuuuuuuuuucked. i did terribly. 145 shoulder press was easy, 155 was impossible. 225 back squat was ok, 255 i failed twice. 315 deadlift, which i did last time we had CFT, i couldn't get past 6" off the ground. i got disgusted and did like 7 reps at 225 and called it quits. i blame being sick plus doing this after another cf workout, plus doing c&j the previous day. bahhhhhhhh.

Went to Mike Mc's new affiliate gym in Niceville, FL today...He kicked my ass with a workout that seemed familiar, but may have been one he concocted. Either way, it kicked ass and kicked my ass. I finished it in 18 something...(it was one of those 5 rounds for time dealios).
Great workout. Great gym. Great people. Crossfit Niceville...good luck - I hope y'all do great and I'll surely stop in again sometime for a class and some coaching.

Overhead Press - 145# PR by 5or10 lbs can't recall

Deadlift - 295 PR by 50 friggin' pounds!
Wwitched to a one hand under, one over grip on the deadlift when I lost my left hand at 265# and couldn't believe how much stronger it was!
Squat: 195 lbs. (PR by 10 lbs., although barely countable form)
Deadlift (wrong order..ooops): 235 lbs. (PR by 10 lbs.)

So, I'm stoked about my PRs, but not so stoked about the fact that I somehow managed to aggravate my bum shoulder to the point where I have to run and get myself an MRI to make sure nothing's torn. :(

I see a 900 total in my near future.
deadlift 365 (match pr)
press 175 (10lb pr)

Squat=300
Press=155
Deadlift=315
CFT=770lbs

Last CFT I did was 11/28/07 (6 months ago).
Stopped Starting Strength a few months ago with 5RM's of Squat (180#) and Deadlift(255#). Haven't done much heavy lifting since then, and lost most of the weight that I'd put on in the process, so I don't think it ended up having much of a positive effect in the long run... no point in gaining if you can't maintain it.

Deadlift: 260 (Down 15#)
CFT: 600
Finally got into the 600 club!
My squats are notoriously weak, so I'm happy to see them finally break into the 200's. They are the one major thing holding back my CFT. I could have done 205 I think.
Press felt great; 7 pounds short of bodyweight.
Could have gone higher on the deadlift, but think form would have suffered, as was the case on my previous 275# PR. Form felt better this time, but wish I'd video taped it. Might do another 1RM deadlift day some time soon just to get a form check.
Next up: 625 club
Completed on 20080405:
Squat: 275
Press: 135
Dead : 345
Total: 755 (PR)
PR's across the board, except for hurting my back on the last deadlift. :-((

Crossfit Total as rx'd

Squat 231
Press 150
Deadlift 321
back in sacral area a little sore, did not push issue, squated without spotter off dynaball for proper depth.
