Comment #4 - Posted by: stalter/29/70/200 at March 3, 2008 7:19 PM

No box for box jump available at local gym....ideas for replacements? I know they won't let me jump onto the bench either. They got mad when I stood on it the otherday.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Chris from Tx at March 3, 2008 7:20 PM

This is wrong on so many levels...

Comment #6 - Posted by: Olde English at March 3, 2008 7:21 PM

everytime i go away for the weekend, the triplet before is a killer. i'm going to bed NOW in anticipation. can't get enough of this stuff.

Comment #7 - Posted by: wyatt at March 3, 2008 7:22 PM

WHAT!? I can barely stand up! Something tells me tomorrow will be one of the first days I CRAWL out of the gym without a PR.

I love CrossFit

Comment #8 - Posted by: AllisonNYC_23/5'2/123 at March 3, 2008 7:22 PM

Is Robb Wolf a regular on the Certification circuit?
If so, what a great addition to the lineup.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Steve from Steve's Club at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

Chris from Tx- some gyms have those step aerobic things. Stack a few of those up. Or, jump on a bench. Maybe that will work, but it'll be a bit short.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Leslie Ap at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

Wow, I had a horrible premonition about this...

Comment #11 - Posted by: ScottMacArthur at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

I just posted this on my results for Linda but thought it was worth repeating to give kudos to everyone:

The cert this past weekend at GSX was incredible! Jeff Tucker has a great setup there and it looks like it'll only get better! Thank you for your time, service and instruction.

A big thank you to all the trainers for sharing the wealth of your knowledge. The cert met and exceeded all of my expectations!

Thanks to Todd for coaching me through my first ever Rx'd Fran. The technique I learned the day before helped it not suck so much (but only by a little).

Wow, what a great week to start doing WOD's again!!

Linda to the Filthy 50...I will NOT have a working body left after tomorrow :)

Good Luck All!!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Kyle S. at March 3, 2008 7:27 PM

Chris from tx. You can also jump stairs (maybe three) it is more horizontal than you would like, but if you don't have another option.

How filthy are my 50's?

Definitely not the 5k I was looking for. This one almost ended me last time, it's gonna be an awesome week. My training partner was equally happy. How many regular jumps sub for a double under?

Comment #17 - Posted by: Spash at March 3, 2008 7:37 PM

Spash #19, do tuck unders if you can't do a double under. See the FAQ for instruction on the tuck under. The cycle time is a little longer for tuck unders but you don't miss.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

Yes, the filthy fifty should be done in order if possible. But remember, its you against you. You can do whatever you want but to do this WOD as rx'd you need to do them in order without substitutions.

Wish I was Filthy Fifty-ing it tomorrow with everyone, good luck!!

Comment #34 - Posted by: gaucoin at March 3, 2008 8:35 PM

The Crossfit Cert at GSX Athletics was terrific! I couldn't find a bit of fluff in the presentations the whole weekend. The seminar is the best I've ever attended in terms of content, implementation, and keeping my attention all day long.

The attendees are definitely top notch. Crossfit draws very motivated individuals.

I want to thank the trainers again for their obvious dedication to us, the students, and to Crossfit.

And, Dutch, wipe that smile off your face! An O-lift is not a nice movement. You've got to get mean!

Comment #35 - Posted by: David Sanderford at March 3, 2008 8:40 PM

Comment #36 - Posted by: JFlagg at March 3, 2008 8:41 PM

I was praying for a 5k. I guess there's a difference between want
and need, eh coach?

Comment #37 - Posted by: Micah T at March 3, 2008 8:43 PM

I love this workout!

I always wonder, though: is 50 walking lunge steps right, 1, left, 2, right 3, etc, or is it right, left 1, right left 2? (I'm hoping it's the former, because I did the latter last time so I'll make up time right there!)

Comment #38 - Posted by: LisaAnne at March 3, 2008 8:44 PM

#38 its the former in your post. left 1, right 2, etc. 50 total individual lunges

Comment #48 - Posted by: bpgpitt at March 3, 2008 9:28 PM

Today was awesome. Looking forward to the Dirty fifty. Every day when my husband and I get ready to do the WOD, we look at eachother and say,"This is gonna suck". But, once it is done, we feel awesome....thanks to CrossFit, we are having a blast!!!

Comment #49 - Posted by: Deb at March 3, 2008 9:34 PM

Thrusters are the sub for wall ball shots.

Had my ortho follow-up today. Not good news in terms of when I can get back to regular CF workouts--14 weeks! To top it off, I don't get to go on the year-long deployment I volunteered for either. The future takes care of itself, so I'll be a good patient, do my rehab, and let things play out as intended. This stuff isn't easy.

Comment #50 - Posted by: theresa at March 3, 2008 9:35 PM

how much is 1 pood in pounds? Any suggestions if you do not have kettlebells?

Comment #51 - Posted by: fosheezie at March 3, 2008 9:37 PM

Directly from the FAQs:

Russian measure used for kettlebells; common ones: 1 pood =36 lbs; 1.5 pood = 54 lbs; 2 pood = 72 lbs. Approx db equivalents are 35, 55, 70

Substitute DB swings if you don't have kettlebells.

Comment #52 - Posted by: theresa at March 3, 2008 9:42 PM

Holy @#$* the filthy fifties. I thought that i was going to die today after doing the triplets!! My legs are hurting so bad i have no idea how i am going to make it through tomorrow. This is the first time i have done these. Its going to take me an hour to get all of that done. Oh well, I hope Weds. is a 5k run:)

Im going to have to substitute thrusters for wall balls and figure something out for the Double unders. If anyone has some suggestions please let me know. And as far as the Kness to Elbow, i think that i will have to do the beginers version. Well i will do my best and just try to finish without puking. Yea!!

Comment #58 - Posted by: jlove at March 3, 2008 10:43 PM

Does anyone know that the reason for the comments section is to post times and weights???? I don't want to post my time then refer back to an earlier date to check the comparison time and have to sift through 700 postings about whether this was a good cycle of exercises or not. This is crossfit, of course its a good cycle...post your opinions on rest days. Save your accolades for then...every single day is annoying. What do I care whether your making up an old exercise??? and who but the poster cares what their favorite WOD is??? GIVE ME A BREAK. This is not some IM/chat board.

How many of the 58 people before my post have something relevant to write...like a TIME or WEIGHT. Get with the program people...shesh

I'm with Mark, save the banter for the message boards

Comment #64 - Posted by: Robert at March 4, 2008 12:19 AM

Actually Mark, the board is only for posting results AND self-righteous, petulant tantrums, squealing at everyone who doesn't comply with your wishes and your inability to use CTRL+F to quickly and easily find what you want.

Why can't people just do exactly what you want them to? What a frustrating world it must be for you.

Comment #65 - Posted by: Wackulator at March 4, 2008 1:17 AM

Keyboard shortcuts are clearly too efficient for him. I would suggest using Edit, then Find in Page. What if one were to write down their results on their own spreadsheet? Man, it would almost be like you could get the WOD as well as compare past results without ever having to go into the message board. Crazy.

Comment #66 - Posted by: Nisocrew at March 4, 2008 1:52 AM

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but I did not know about the "find" feature on the computer. the technological revolution is just passing me by.. Thanks guys !!

Comment #67 - Posted by: SethBD at March 4, 2008 2:06 AM

This is SO CRAZY!
I woke up @ 3 this morning to go to the bathroom and tried to get back to sleep. I started running myself through the filthy 50 in my head. Each and every rep. This took a while. (I swear this is true but I know my fellow cfers will all think this is perfectly normal behavior :) I said to myself, self what are the chances of seeing the filthy 50 today?? This is the first time I guessed it right! I guess sometimes it's the little things in life that just really get ya!

Oh, by the way I finally got out of bed @4 and downloaded my cf journal. Anyone that has not subscribed yet, MUST. Needless to say, I never returned to bed, therefore I must get the filthy in before I run out of energy today...hehe....can hardly wait

Comment #68 - Posted by: gina johnson at March 4, 2008 2:42 AM

What can I do to replace the 50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball if I doesn't have access to a wall ball right now? And if there nothing really to jump on in my gym, can I just jump as high as I can 50 times?

Thanks, Jean-Luc

#59 Mark,

#50, Theresa:

I'm in complete empathy with you re: need to rehab and put things off during recovery. I'm having to WAY curtail my activities because of cervical stenosis and myelopathy. (Basically, my spinal cord is being compressed and I'm developing weakness in legs and arms.) I'm doing half the work I was capable of just 3 months ago.

I applaud your patience and good sense. Sometimes surrender to "what is" takes more strength of character than smashing through. And God grant us the wisdom to know the difference, eh?

A day behind, doing '3 bars o' death' tonight and 'filthy fifty' tomorrow. not sure which will do more damage to my body--these 2 workouts back to back or my trip to Vegas this weekend!

I was hoping to make my first trip to a CF affiliate while out there, but it looks like their schedule won't work with my arrival time. there's always next time I guess...

I did Christine this morning... using 135#DL
3 round:
500m row
12 DL
21 Box Jumps
took me somewhere around 16:51

Does rowing make anyone else nauseous? I find that my recovery time is at least twice as long after anything with rowing in it... it just kills me.

Is it really this difficult to search for your posting in previous sessions? You don't want to read other people's rants. Fine - hit control-F and type your name.

12 Standard Jump Rope Jumps

Not a good morning for the WOD. Forgot to start the timer at the beginning and didn't remember until starting the sit ups. Then since I workout in the garage/backyard my dog hangs out with me. lover her to death but she thought it was a good idea to fertilize the lawn where I was doing KB swings and burpees. As if it was not hard enough already.

Anyway, I am thinking it was about 15 minutes. This was a little tough though I should have increased the reps. I am starting to feel that good soreness in the shoulders and in the legs.

My iPod is on shuffle and Mr.Roboto came on and I can't even get up to change it! My back is SO tight! I've barely left my bed since I got home from the gym yesterday. My c o r e is shaking

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I guess I'll take some more asprin and try to move around. When I get up I have to put my hands on my back like a pregnant woman and lean back. Otherwise I fall forward. Maybe I should use that to my advantage and go for a run.

Kettlebell swings and back extensions just seem totally impossible tonight. Maybe I'll be BACK to normal by 6pm. :/ Miracles happen right?

Lurking for almost a year. Been trying to get in shape just to make it through the most basic CrossFit workout.
I have done variations of most of the workouts and worked with a local trainer to perfect my technique on most of the exercises. I attempted the "Filthy Fifty" in a slightly different order, because I know my limitations!! lol
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box (Subbed using 16" bench)
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood (Subbed 35 lbs dumbbell)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (No Med Balls, subbed using two 15 lbs db thrusters)
50 Burpees (Totally spent by this point, subbed 75 air squats and 75 pushups)
50 Double unders (Did not do, couldn't jump rope if my life depended on it)
50 Jumping pull-ups (Totally dead by this point, "attempted" 10)

43 min, 44 sec.

Was almost visited "Pukie", gotta love it!

Didn't have a 20# Med Ball today, so I had to use 14# ball. Everything else was as rx'd:

That's 1 minute slower than my pr. I'll take it, though, after Linda beat me up yesterday.

Last time was 37:18

I agree with Mark M #58 and also with #60, #64, and #114. Everyone wants to be like OPT? Look at his posts. One post per day and only the weights/time. Spend more time on your WODs and less on your posts and maybe you will catch up to him!

If you have anything else, there is a message board. Use it! With that said, this post does belong in the message board area, but since none of you would see it there, I put it here. Yes, how ironic. No need to point it out.

#70 Gina Johnson: You mistakenly put Bingo in a group of people that regularly rant about nothing important. I wouldn't describe Bingo's posts as rants. He provides lots of valuable information (See all of January's WODs) and is very helpful. On the other hand, J rock's posts seldom contain information of any use. Mostly they are full of "I," "my clients," "me," "myself," and "No (fill in WOD) for me today..."

#124 Tyler: I have been on here for over a year and the mind-numbing, excuse-ridden, useless drivel that pervades the comments on a non-rest day has dramatically increased the last few months. At one time people actually did carry on conversations, BUT is information about injuries, workout methods, or something of use. Now it has become a personal blog for Allison in New York and her fellow "die hards."

Now, I imagine that I am going to catch a lot of "crap" for this post. Fine. I can take Linda, Eva, the WOD for today, and many more, so your negative comments will not do any of the following: 1) change my mind, 2) hurt my feelings, 3) make you a better CFer and me any less of a CFer.

They will however further convince me that when presented with unflattering observations, 'the truth hurts' and many people will feel obligated to tell me how wrong I am. To you who feel this need, there is a Message Board. Use it!

144lbs/31yoa

Filthy 50 (subs)
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box (25" box)
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood (35lb DB)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (12lb ball)
50 Burpees
50 Double unders

Time: 27:29 (PR by 2 minutes)

I decided to actually do a wall ball shot instead of the 45lb thruster sub that I usually do. However, the heaviest ball I had was 12lbs. Still I don't think it was much easier than 45lb thrusters x 50. Plus, I lost about a minute walking to and from the gym into the stairwell to do the wall ball shots, which is the only place nearby that has a ceiling higher than 10 feet.

Not one of my greatest days but I'm okay with that. My pr is about 16 1/2 and today the burpees just killed me. I probably was at just over 10 minutes when I got done with wall balls and then burpees came along. You're telling me you can do "Angie," "Linda," and the filthy fifty in a matter of 4 days without complaint, but you get on here and waste our time complaining about using your tiny index finger to move a scrolling wheel to move up and down the page. I'm fairly new to Crossfit, but so far I haven't seen any negative comments or attitudes on the comments page...until today. Yeah, people complain about how sore they are, but it's usually followed by, "bring on the next workout!" And they don't direct their negativeness at other Crossfitters. It's hard enough doing these workouts day to day. We don't need to get on here and read arguments about how many inches of space people are using. Please, if you don't have anything positive or interesting to type, keep it to yourself.

Wow, I was simply stating that clearly 'comments' are welcome. It's hard to believe someone would request that we all stop commenting. People have been commenting as well as posting their times, weights, etc. since day 1 here. All I know is I'm going to continue enjoying everyones comments and overlook the negativity.
Actually I didn't mean to describe Bingo, Spiderchick and jrocks comments as rants per se. Sometimes people rant sometimes they don't, whatever. Scrolling down is the solution rather responding in an insulting or negative opinion to peoples comments here.

1st time with the filthy fifty. I'll be feeling it for the next week.

No Fifties for me so I attempted a 'one-legged' JT and did it in a very slow 14:54. My previous JT was 8:42 so it's apparent that my HSPUs have taken a hit. I'm pretty sure my arms are already tired from being on crutches for three days.

Post-50 supermans + 50 abmat sit ups, soles of feet together.

CFWU x1

As rx'd except
used bench not box on box jump 18"
knees to elbows turned into knees to chest after 15
did thrusters with 20lb dumbells for first 20 then switched to 17.5 lbs.
did high knee jump rope 125 reps (rep count was when right leg touched ground)

43:59 4 minutes of this time was setting up various stations to complete workout.

Comment #254 - Posted by: scott at March 4, 2008 12:53 PM

Lower back in knots after the 6 hour drive home from St Louis; half the trip in a snow/ice storm.

27:26

50 18" bench jumps (done in bouncing sets of 5 reps - this is the first time my box jumps have actually looked like box jumps during a WOD!)
50 jumping pullups(bar set just within my grasp with arms fully extended)
50 1 pood kb swings (completely overhead)
50 walking lunge steps (knee touching ground each stride, full hip extension)
50 KTE - (knees touching above elbows with no kip or swing)
50 back extensions (no momentum, dead hang each rep)
50 25# ATA "ceiling ball" sandbag shots
50 burpees with pushup and lateral/vertical jump over 12"x12" luggage
100 jump rope singleunders (no more than 20 consecutive jumps today with the beaded rope; I much prefer Catherine's speed rope)

36:25. Only did 25 burpees and subbed 200 singles for 50 double unders. I did the other 25 burpees when I got back to work. Sick workout!

Is this post acceptable to the Crossfit Elite Politically Corrrect Secret Police?

Is there an email where I can send my posts in the future so that you may screen/censor them and then post them? Thanks!

Filthy Fifty: (one of my favorites :) )

Subs:
Bench jumps in place of box jumps
25# DB in place of kettlebell
10# wall ball (only one gym has)

Also- could only get 25 knees to elbows then hand split open again. OUCH!

33 minutes

Better than last time but want to do better!

Just for "fun" I timed each exercise:

50 box jumps: 2:14
50 jumping pull-ups: 2:13
50 kettlebell swings: 3:31
50 walking lungles: 3:16
50 knees to elbows: 6:50
50 push press: 3:00
50 back extensions: 2:17
50 thrusters 40 lbs.: 6:20
50 burpees: 8:40
50 double-unders: 4:21

Total: 42:41 PR by 7 seconds

The last 3 exercises alone make up almost half my time. The thrusters just kill me, then I hit the burpees dead tired and it takes forever. Then I get to double-unders which I am normally good at, but I am so beat I can't get a rhythm going...had so many singles it was pathetic.

Comment #263 - Posted by: Corey at March 4, 2008 1:19 PM

no box, no pull-up bar, no kettlebell, no ghd apparatus, no 20# ball, no jump rope -- just decent folding weight bench w/pulley attachment, bar and dumbbells, weights, along with treadmill (not relevant to today's WOD).

so, subbed jumps onto coffee table for box jumps, lat pulldowns for jumping pull-ups, dumbbell swings for kb swings, sit-ups for knees to elbows, good mornings for back extensions, 22# dumbbell thrusters for wall balls, jumps for double unders.

highly modified, i know, but i'm doing my best with my home gym.

just started cf this week, so 25s sted 50s.

15:06

will add reps each time until i'm "fully filthy."

Last time was 48 in change. This time, with an 8 lb medicine ball (couldn't find 20 lb one)...

35:20 Feel amazing right now. Can hardly wait to see what my time will be in 2 more months. Thanks Coach, thanks Ian.

Me: 41yo/M/5'10"/187lbs

No Warm up just some stretches. I'm not sore from Linda, but I am tired. where's my pillow and blanket.

WOD: 53:11

Box Jumps: 24" box
Jumping Pull ups: used a box that allowed me to just barely grab the bar. Jumped using my calves.
Kettleball Swings: 35lb dumbell.
Walking lunges: knee to floor
knees to elbows: knees past elbows
Push press: 45lb bar
Wall Ball shots: used 13lb ball (heaviest my gym has) I need to make one.
Burpees: chest to floor.
Double Unders: Tuck Jumps

I was at about 28 minutes when I got to Burpees and it took me 25 minutes to get the burpees and the tuck jumps. I am just smoked form Linda yesterday. This is 25 minutes off of my best filthy fifty time.

I feel good about this because I almost walked out of the gym with my tail between my legs on rep number 5 of the burpees. I decided to suck it down, instead of being the big baby that I am.

Looking forward to Murph tomorrow. :>)

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

subbed 100 single unders for DU's

yesterday was a bad day, felt crappy, and then tweaked my shoulder pretty bad doing a muscle up, so I had to cut out the BP.

DL: 225 scaled down from Rx'd 270
BP: 180 eliminated, subbed 10 push ups
PC: 135 surprisingly easy

ended with the 6 rep set at 35 min, went home and took an 800mg motrin

I'm so stoked that I can even DO the Filthy 500 the day after an almost as rx'd Linda, and knocked off 9 1/2 mins. since January! Yeeehaww! Only sub, 100 single-unders, (old dog, new trick issue).

Awesome time MikeG, and fantastic story leon! Mark R #187 what an unbelievably un-P.C. post (for Crossfit), and ironically, I agree with you. These posts are mostly bragging or whining, with the occasional informative comment from someone like Bingo. The bottom line is that I find some to be useful, and some are not, but everyone gets their say. After 2 years, I've mostly learned to skim through to find the stuff I like.

WOD: 27:50 with following subs:
*No 20-pound ball or appropriate wall so I did wall ball shots bouncing 12-pound medicine ball off of cross bar of monkey bars.
*45lb Good mornings in place of BEs (Note: there is a very slim possibility I did 40 instead of 50).

Beat my last time by over 3 minutes. Last time I did BEs laying on a Bosu instead of good mornings. I think this way is harder. Anyway, it was a PR.
