Comment #4 - Posted by: stalter/29/70/200 at March 3, 2008 7:19 PM

No box for box jump available at local gym....ideas for replacements? I know they won't let me jump onto the bench either. They got mad when I stood on it the otherday.

Comment #5 - Posted by: Chris from Tx at March 3, 2008 7:20 PM

This is wrong on so many levels...

Comment #6 - Posted by: Olde English at March 3, 2008 7:21 PM

everytime i go away for the weekend, the triplet before is a killer. i'm going to bed NOW in anticipation. can't get enough of this stuff.

Comment #7 - Posted by: wyatt at March 3, 2008 7:22 PM

WHAT!? I can barely stand up! Something tells me tomorrow will be one of the first days I CRAWL out of the gym without a PR.

I love CrossFit

Comment #8 - Posted by: AllisonNYC_23/5'2/123 at March 3, 2008 7:22 PM

Is Robb Wolf a regular on the Certification circuit?
If so, what a great addition to the lineup.

Comment #9 - Posted by: Steve from Steve's Club at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

Chris from Tx- some gyms have those step aerobic things. Stack a few of those up. Or, jump on a bench. Maybe that will work, but it'll be a bit short.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Leslie Ap at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

Wow, I had a horrible premonition about this...

Comment #11 - Posted by: ScottMacArthur at March 3, 2008 7:24 PM

I just posted this on my results for Linda but thought it was worth repeating to give kudos to everyone:

The cert this past weekend at GSX was incredible! Jeff Tucker has a great setup there and it looks like it'll only get better! Thank you for your time, service and instruction.

A big thank you to all the trainers for sharing the wealth of your knowledge. The cert met and exceeded all of my expectations!

Thanks to Todd for coaching me through my first ever Rx'd Fran. The technique I learned the day before helped it not suck so much (but only by a little).

Wow, what a great week to start doing WOD's again!!

Linda to the Filthy 50...I will NOT have a working body left after tomorrow :)

Good Luck All!!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Kyle S. at March 3, 2008 7:27 PM

Chris from tx. You can also jump stairs (maybe three) it is more horizontal than you would like, but if you don't have another option.

How filthy are my 50's?

Definitely not the 5k I was looking for. This one almost ended me last time, it's gonna be an awesome week. My training partner was equally happy. How many regular jumps sub for a double under?

Comment #17 - Posted by: Spash at March 3, 2008 7:37 PM

Spash #19, do tuck unders if you can't do a double under. See the FAQ for instruction on the tuck under. The cycle time is a little longer for tuck unders but you don't miss.

Have Fun, Train Hard,

Billy

Yes, the filthy fifty should be done in order if possible. But remember, its you against you. You can do whatever you want but to do this WOD as rx'd you need to do them in order without substitutions.

Wish I was Filthy Fifty-ing it tomorrow with everyone, good luck!!

Comment #34 - Posted by: gaucoin at March 3, 2008 8:35 PM

The Crossfit Cert at GSX Athletics was terrific! I couldn't find a bit of fluff in the presentations the whole weekend. The seminar is the best I've ever attended in terms of content, implementation, and keeping my attention all day long.

The attendees are definitely top notch. Crossfit draws very motivated individuals.

I want to thank the trainers again for their obvious dedication to us, the students, and to Crossfit.

And, Dutch, wipe that smile off your face! An O-lift is not a nice movement. You've got to get mean!

Comment #35 - Posted by: David Sanderford at March 3, 2008 8:40 PM

Comment #36 - Posted by: JFlagg at March 3, 2008 8:41 PM

I was praying for a 5k. I guess there's a difference between want
and need, eh coach?

Comment #37 - Posted by: Micah T at March 3, 2008 8:43 PM

I love this workout!

I always wonder, though: is 50 walking lunge steps right, 1, left, 2, right 3, etc, or is it right, left 1, right left 2? (I'm hoping it's the former, because I did the latter last time so I'll make up time right there!)

Comment #38 - Posted by: LisaAnne at March 3, 2008 8:44 PM

#38 its the former in your post. left 1, right 2, etc. 50 total individual lunges

Comment #48 - Posted by: bpgpitt at March 3, 2008 9:28 PM

Today was awesome. Looking forward to the Dirty fifty. Every day when my husband and I get ready to do the WOD, we look at eachother and say,"This is gonna suck". But, once it is done, we feel awesome....thanks to CrossFit, we are having a blast!!!

Comment #49 - Posted by: Deb at March 3, 2008 9:34 PM

Thrusters are the sub for wall ball shots.

Had my ortho follow-up today. Not good news in terms of when I can get back to regular CF workouts--14 weeks! To top it off, I don't get to go on the year-long deployment I volunteered for either. The future takes care of itself, so I'll be a good patient, do my rehab, and let things play out as intended. This stuff isn't easy.

Comment #50 - Posted by: theresa at March 3, 2008 9:35 PM

how much is 1 pood in pounds? Any suggestions if you do not have kettlebells?

Comment #51 - Posted by: fosheezie at March 3, 2008 9:37 PM

Directly from the FAQs:

Russian measure used for kettlebells; common ones: 1 pood =36 lbs; 1.5 pood = 54 lbs; 2 pood = 72 lbs. Approx db equivalents are 35, 55, 70

Substitute DB swings if you don't have kettlebells.

Comment #52 - Posted by: theresa at March 3, 2008 9:42 PM

Holy @#$* the filthy fifties. I thought that i was going to die today after doing the triplets!! My legs are hurting so bad i have no idea how i am going to make it through tomorrow. This is the first time i have done these. Its going to take me an hour to get all of that done. Oh well, I hope Weds. is a 5k run:)

Im going to have to substitute thrusters for wall balls and figure something out for the Double unders. If anyone has some suggestions please let me know. And as far as the Kness to Elbow, i think that i will have to do the beginers version. Well i will do my best and just try to finish without puking. Yea!!

Comment #58 - Posted by: jlove at March 3, 2008 10:43 PM

Does anyone know that the reason for the comments section is to post times and weights???? I don't want to post my time then refer back to an earlier date to check the comparison time and have to sift through 700 postings about whether this was a good cycle of exercises or not. This is crossfit, of course its a good cycle...post your opinions on rest days. Save your accolades for then...every single day is annoying. What do I care whether your making up an old exercise??? and who but the poster cares what their favorite WOD is??? GIVE ME A BREAK. This is not some IM/chat board.

How many of the 58 people before my post have something relevant to write...like a TIME or WEIGHT. Get with the program people...shesh

I'm with Mark, save the banter for the message boards

Comment #64 - Posted by: Robert at March 4, 2008 12:19 AM

Actually Mark, the board is only for posting results AND self-righteous, petulant tantrums, squealing at everyone who doesn't comply with your wishes and your inability to use CTRL+F to quickly and easily find what you want.

Why can't people just do exactly what you want them to? What a frustrating world it must be for you.

Comment #65 - Posted by: Wackulator at March 4, 2008 1:17 AM

Keyboard shortcuts are clearly too efficient for him. I would suggest using Edit, then Find in Page. What if one were to write down their results on their own spreadsheet? Man, it would almost be like you could get the WOD as well as compare past results without ever having to go into the message board. Crazy.

Comment #66 - Posted by: Nisocrew at March 4, 2008 1:52 AM

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but I did not know about the "find" feature on the computer. the technological revolution is just passing me by.. Thanks guys !!

Comment #67 - Posted by: SethBD at March 4, 2008 2:06 AM

This is SO CRAZY!
I woke up @ 3 this morning to go to the bathroom and tried to get back to sleep. I started running myself through the filthy 50 in my head. Each and every rep. This took a while. (I swear this is true but I know my fellow cfers will all think this is perfectly normal behavior :) I said to myself, self what are the chances of seeing the filthy 50 today?? This is the first time I guessed it right! I guess sometimes it's the little things in life that just really get ya!

Oh, by the way I finally got out of bed @4 and downloaded my cf journal. Anyone that has not subscribed yet, MUST. Needless to say, I never returned to bed, therefore I must get the filthy in before I run out of energy today...hehe....can hardly wait

Comment #68 - Posted by: gina johnson at March 4, 2008 2:42 AM

What can I do to replace the 50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball if I doesn't have access to a wall ball right now? And if there nothing really to jump on in my gym, can I just jump as high as I can 50 times?

Thanks, Jean-Luc

#59 Mark,

#50, Theresa:

I'm in complete empathy with you re: need to rehab and put things off during recovery. I'm having to WAY curtail my activities because of cervical stenosis and myelopathy. (Basically, my spinal cord is being compressed and I'm developing weakness in legs and arms.) I'm doing half the work I was capable of just 3 months ago.

I applaud your patience and good sense. Sometimes surrender to "what is" takes more strength of character than smashing through. And God grant us the wisdom to know the difference, eh?

A day behind, doing '3 bars o' death' tonight and 'filthy fifty' tomorrow. not sure which will do more damage to my body--these 2 workouts back to back or my trip to Vegas this weekend!

I was hoping to make my first trip to a CF affiliate while out there, but it looks like their schedule won't work with my arrival time. there's always next time I guess...

I did Christine this morning... using 135#DL
3 round:
500m row
12 DL
21 Box Jumps
took me somewhere around 16:51

Does rowing make anyone else nauseous? I find that my recovery time is at least twice as long after anything with rowing in it... it just kills me.

Is it really this difficult to search for your posting in previous sessions? You don't want to read other people's rants. Fine - hit control-F and type your name.

12 Standard Jump Rope Jumps

Not a good morning for the WOD. Forgot to start the timer at the beginning and didn't remember until starting the sit ups. Then since I workout in the garage/backyard my dog hangs out with me. lover her to death but she thought it was a good idea to fertilize the lawn where I was doing KB swings and burpees. As if it was not hard enough already.

Anyway, I am thinking it was about 15 minutes. This was a little tough though I should have increased the reps. I am starting to feel that good soreness in the shoulders and in the legs.

My iPod is on shuffle and Mr.Roboto came on and I can't even get up to change it! My back is SO tight! I've barely left my bed since I got home from the gym yesterday. My c o r e is shaking

I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I guess I'll take some more asprin and try to move around. When I get up I have to put my hands on my back like a pregnant woman and lean back. Otherwise I fall forward. Maybe I should use that to my advantage and go for a run.

Kettlebell swings and back extensions just seem totally impossible tonight. Maybe I'll be BACK to normal by 6pm. :/ Miracles happen right?

Lurking for almost a year. Been trying to get in shape just to make it through the most basic CrossFit workout.
I have done variations of most of the workouts and worked with a local trainer to perfect my technique on most of the exercises. I attempted the "Filthy Fifty" in a slightly different order, because I know my limitations!! lol
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box (Subbed using 16" bench)
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood (Subbed 35 lbs dumbbell)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (No Med Balls, subbed using two 15 lbs db thrusters)
50 Burpees (Totally spent by this point, subbed 75 air squats and 75 pushups)
50 Double unders (Did not do, couldn't jump rope if my life depended on it)
50 Jumping pull-ups (Totally dead by this point, "attempted" 10)

43 min, 44 sec.

Was almost visited "Pukie", gotta love it!

Didn't have a 20# Med Ball today, so I had to use 14# ball. Everything else was as rx'd:

That's 1 minute slower than my pr. I'll take it, though, after Linda beat me up yesterday.

Last time was 37:18

I agree with Mark M #58 and also with #60, #64, and #114. Everyone wants to be like OPT? Look at his posts. One post per day and only the weights/time. Spend more time on your WODs and less on your posts and maybe you will catch up to him!

If you have anything else, there is a message board. Use it! With that said, this post does belong in the message board area, but since none of you would see it there, I put it here. Yes, how ironic. No need to point it out.

#70 Gina Johnson: You mistakenly put Bingo in a group of people that regularly rant about nothing important. I wouldn't describe Bingo's posts as rants. He provides lots of valuable information (See all of January's WODs) and is very helpful. On the other hand, J rock's posts seldom contain information of any use. Mostly they are full of "I," "my clients," "me," "myself," and "No (fill in WOD) for me today..."

#124 Tyler: I have been on here for over a year and the mind-numbing, excuse-ridden, useless drivel that pervades the comments on a non-rest day has dramatically increased the last few months. At one time people actually did carry on conversations, BUT is information about injuries, workout methods, or something of use. Now it has become a personal blog for Allison in New York and her fellow "die hards."

Now, I imagine that I am going to catch a lot of "crap" for this post. Fine. I can take Linda, Eva, the WOD for today, and many more, so your negative comments will not do any of the following: 1) change my mind, 2) hurt my feelings, 3) make you a better CFer and me any less of a CFer.

They will however further convince me that when presented with unflattering observations, 'the truth hurts' and many people will feel obligated to tell me how wrong I am. To you who feel this need, there is a Message Board. Use it!

144lbs/31yoa

Filthy 50 (subs)
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box (25" box)
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood (35lb DB)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (12lb ball)
50 Burpees
50 Double unders

Time: 27:29 (PR by 2 minutes)

I decided to actually do a wall ball shot instead of the 45lb thruster sub that I usually do. However, the heaviest ball I had was 12lbs. Still I don't think it was much easier than 45lb thrusters x 50. Plus, I lost about a minute walking to and from the gym into the stairwell to do the wall ball shots, which is the only place nearby that has a ceiling higher than 10 feet.

Not one of my greatest days but I'm okay with that. My pr is about 16 1/2 and today the burpees just killed me. I probably was at just over 10 minutes when I got done with wall balls and then burpees came along. You're telling me you can do "Angie," "Linda," and the filthy fifty in a matter of 4 days without complaint, but you get on here and waste our time complaining about using your tiny index finger to move a scrolling wheel to move up and down the page. I'm fairly new to Crossfit, but so far I haven't seen any negative comments or attitudes on the comments page...until today. Yeah, people complain about how sore they are, but it's usually followed by, "bring on the next workout!" And they don't direct their negativeness at other Crossfitters. It's hard enough doing these workouts day to day. We don't need to get on here and read arguments about how many inches of space people are using. Please, if you don't have anything positive or interesting to type, keep it to yourself.

Wow, I was simply stating that clearly 'comments' are welcome. It's hard to believe someone would request that we all stop commenting. People have been commenting as well as posting their times, weights, etc. since day 1 here. All I know is I'm going to continue enjoying everyones comments and overlook the negativity.
Actually I didn't mean to describe Bingo, Spiderchick and jrocks comments as rants per se. Sometimes people rant sometimes they don't, whatever. Scrolling down is the solution rather responding in an insulting or negative opinion to peoples comments here.

No Fifties for me so I attempted a 'one-legged' JT and did it in a very slow 14:54. My previous JT was 8:42 so it's apparent that my HSPUs have taken a hit. I'm pretty sure my arms are already tired from being on crutches for three days.

Post-50 supermans + 50 abmat sit ups, soles of feet together.

Lower back in knots after the 6 hour drive home from St Louis; half the trip in a snow/ice storm.

27:26

50 18" bench jumps (done in bouncing sets of 5 reps - this is the first time my box jumps have actually looked like box jumps during a WOD!)
50 jumping pullups(bar set just within my grasp with arms fully extended)
50 1 pood kb swings (completely overhead)
50 walking lunge steps (knee touching ground each stride, full hip extension)
50 KTE - (knees touching above elbows with no kip or swing)
50 back extensions (no momentum, dead hang each rep)
50 25# ATA "ceiling ball" sandbag shots
50 burpees with pushup and lateral/vertical jump over 12"x12" luggage
100 jump rope singleunders (no more than 20 consecutive jumps today with the beaded rope; I much prefer Catherine's speed rope)

Just for "fun" I timed each exercise:

50 box jumps: 2:14
50 jumping pull-ups: 2:13
50 kettlebell swings: 3:31
50 walking lungles: 3:16
50 knees to elbows: 6:50
50 push press: 3:00
50 back extensions: 2:17
50 thrusters 40 lbs.: 6:20
50 burpees: 8:40
50 double-unders: 4:21

Total: 42:41 PR by 7 seconds

The last 3 exercises alone make up almost half my time. The thrusters just kill me, then I hit the burpees dead tired and it takes forever. Then I get to double-unders which I am normally good at, but I am so beat I can't get a rhythm going...had so many singles it was pathetic.

Comment #263 - Posted by: Corey at March 4, 2008 1:19 PM

no box, no pull-up bar, no kettlebell, no ghd apparatus, no 20# ball, no jump rope -- just decent folding weight bench w/pulley attachment, bar and dumbbells, weights, along with treadmill (not relevant to today's WOD).

so, subbed jumps onto coffee table for box jumps, lat pulldowns for jumping pull-ups, dumbbell swings for kb swings, sit-ups for knees to elbows, good mornings for back extensions, 22# dumbbell thrusters for wall balls, jumps for double unders.

highly modified, i know, but i'm doing my best with my home gym.

Me: 41yo/M/5'10"/187lbs

No Warm up just some stretches. I'm not sore from Linda, but I am tired. where's my pillow and blanket.

WOD: 53:11

Box Jumps: 24" box
Jumping Pull ups: used a box that allowed me to just barely grab the bar. Jumped using my calves.
Kettleball Swings: 35lb dumbell.
Walking lunges: knee to floor
knees to elbows: knees past elbows
Push press: 45lb bar
Wall Ball shots: used 13lb ball (heaviest my gym has) I need to make one.
Burpees: chest to floor.
Double Unders: Tuck Jumps

I was at about 28 minutes when I got to Burpees and it took me 25 minutes to get the burpees and the tuck jumps. I am just smoked form Linda yesterday. This is 25 minutes off of my best filthy fifty time.

I feel good about this because I almost walked out of the gym with my tail between my legs on rep number 5 of the burpees. I decided to suck it down, instead of being the big baby that I am.

Looking forward to Murph tomorrow. :>)

Still a beast, but huge PR for me today.

Subbed a super-size tractor tire for a 24" box, 35lb dumb bell for a kettle bell, goodmornings for back extensions (half of them with a 45lb bar on my back), 12lb medicine ball (that's all there was), and tuck jumps for double unders.

Caught a tinge in my back during the goodmornings, which caught up with me on burpees. Still, I managed to crank out 10 more than I did last time (burpees are the only ones I couldn't finish).

#297 kylie millward,

I would suggest scaling the reps/rounds/weights to a level where you can perform the exercises with "rock solid" form. If that means going off of the BrandX scaling recommendations, then so be it. Note that if your form degrades, while you can go faster and increase intensity, you also increase the risk of injury. Often times we ratchet up the intensity only to be set back by injury. There is a fine balance between intensity and injury and good form is usually a good barometer of that line. Trust me, you will see amazing gains even with a scaled back CrossFit routine. And, once your form is solid, slowly ratchet up the intensity and the weights. Pretty soon you will be doing the workouts as rx'd.

The key is consistency in doing CrossFit workouts, eating right, sleeping enough, and scaling the workouts so that your form is "rock solid".

#297, Kylie:

Check out BrandX, they've got great scaling every day. For something like today, do the "filty 25" or "filthy 15" depending on ability. Reduce weights where needed (ligher wall-ball or KB) do easier excersizes as needed (situps in lieu of knees-to-elbows, regular jump rope in lieu of double-unders).

There is always a solution.

Went with the BrandX scaled down work out-much more reasonable and do-able at this point.

35 box jumps 20 inch
35 jumping pull-ups
35 kettle bell swings 35 lb db
35 walking lunges
35 sit-ups (need to get ab-mat)
35 push press 45 lbs
40 lb thrusters in substitution of wall ball (have to get one)
35 burpies (really tough)
35 tuck jumps (in place of jump ropes, in place of double-unders)

Is there a response board for how to build plyoboxes? I am certain that I have all of the materials for it. Just need to get the information to build it.

I know that it was in the Crossfit Journal. I had the journal. Just happened to lose the file.

Anybody got any links for it?

Thanks for your help.

Subbed tuck jumps: 30:25. One minute slower than previous.

While I was lying on the ground post-workout, contemplating what I could have done faster, a workout, complete with title, ran through my head:
"Do What Hurts"
Choose three exercises you struggle with and complete 21-15-9 rounds.
Mine would be Handstand push ups, wall ball, and Cleans (1/2-3/4 Bodyweight). Food for thought.

I love the fact that I came home late from work, and could do this workout on my kids jungle gym.

Took me over 45 minutes, and I had to sub a duct-taped shut tool box for a kettlebell.

The best part is -- The kids think I'm playing with them, and jump right in. If I could get each of them to hang on to one end of the bar, I could do thrusters like that...(yes, not safe, thanks mom.)

I have to say that I feel lucky today.

25:02 as RX kind of (30 lb med ball) PR
I am extremely sore from yesterday, luckily I pushed past and got a PR and loosened my whole body up in the process.
My entire abdomen cramped almost as soon as I started the box jumps, luckily my Commander was there to say "keep going you puss."
I didn't have a 20 lb ball in my gym, luckily we have a 30 lb ball.
I can't believe the whining that is going on in the comments, luckily I can scroll past them and read the ones that are worth a sh!t.

All as Rx'd (even got to use my homemade duct-taped 20# wall ball!) -- until I tapped out after my 21st burpee!

Clock showed 44 mins when I gave up/ran out of time (and honestly, ran outta gas too!). But SO much better than in January, when I tried this for the first time and had just been doing CF 10 days at that point. I take heart in knowing the trend is in a good direction. I will conquer the "Filthy" next time it comes around! My goal is to complete as RX'd in under 40 mins.

FINALLY! I can say I completed a full WOD! My time was terrible (57:10), but part of that was due to having to walk between two buildings to access the neccessary equipment. I had to use a 14 lb medicine ball for the wall balls, since that was the heaviest one my gym had, and I guess I'm not coordinated enough yet to do double unders, so after messing around with it for a couple minutes I simply did 100 "single unders" as fast as I could to mimic the double. But I completed it! WooHoo!

Subbed 20 pound dumbbells for push press.

Subbed a small punching bag ~12lbs and added a 8lb kettlebell for the wall ball. Some interesting flight characteristics. First time the wall ball was an active opponent.

50 jumping pull-ups
50 KB swings, 25#
50 walking lunge steps
50 knees to elbows (as close I could get them)
50 push press, 40#
50 back extensions
50 wall ball shots, 10# ball
100 single unders (too wasted to even try DUs)
30 burpees

44:54

First time doing "Filthy Fifties". Used 9" box so I could jump on and off to increase metabolic load. Have only 25# KB (very easy--can definitely increase weight). Had to scale push press to 40# due to soreness in left elbow and shoulders from "Linda" yesterday. 10# ball is heaviest I currently have (it was plenty by the time wall balls came along). Did jump rope before burpees so I could do them--didn't even try double unders--too wasted. Set a time limit of 45 minutes for this, so stopped at 30 burpees (I absolutely despise them).

First WOD in almost a week due to ankle pains (Achilles). Proud to have finished it in one piece... as rx'd!

My pace slowed considerably on the K2E but had a decent time overall. It wasn't until I hit the Wall Balls that I really hit the brick wall. I was around 30:00 once I got to that point... the last 3 routines took me nearly as much time as the first 7. Spent a lot of time between sets trying not to meet Pukie and fall over in a dizzy stupor. Really light-headed. Had to recover in between sets to reduce chance of injury.

Wall Ball, Burpees and DU's felt like they were never going to end -- not to mention the ankle pain in my sad attempts at DU's (3 singles followed by 1 DU).

Man this one HURT. Hope to be more in the swing of things the next time it comes around -- last time I was nearly 10:00 faster. :(

Total time: 56:12

Goal time for this is sub-40:00

I'm blown away by the sub 25's I'm seeing on here.

I hated this workout after the last couple of WOD's!
Couple of subs:
35# DB swings

Tuck jumps - forgot my jumprope

Only sub was 45lb thrusters for wall balls. No balls (literally) at my globogym.

Last time I had to scale to 30's, so even though it was pretty slow, it is a big achievement. KTE's were like hitting a freakin time wall.

Now, if the shaking would just stop...

I'm a day behind so i did linda today...

22:25

DL - 245, dropped to 225 at 6 set
Bench - 155
Cleans - 125

Started using bad form on my DLs so i decided to drop 20 pounds, however, my bench is improving because i didn't have too much trouble with 155. Thank God i had a workout partner for this one because it got intense. It was kinda of funny because it was one of my friends who i am just introducing to Crossfit, and Linda was his first workout. He was so jacked afterwards so maybe he'll get the Crossfit fever!! Have a great day everyone!!

First ever CF failure and I'm not at all happy about it. Last two Filthy's were scaled back to 35's and thought I should step it up to 50's this time. Biggest mistake was doing it at 5:30AM with absolutely no fuel in me... when will I learn?

Did solid up until wall balls. Almost met Pukie and collapsed onto a bench. Tried a burpee and was shaking...

I do so love how CrossFit can leave me exhilirated and confident one day and shredded and humbled the next...

5x135lb

5x315lb

5x3
3x365lb (166kg)
3x365lb
3x365lb (heavy!!)
3x335lb (152kg)
3x335lb

Read something during the week about the hook grip and how it's sposed to work. Finally made sense and I adjusted my implementation and lo and behold it works. Painful for sure, but effective. All warm-up sets and my first work set used the double overhand hook grip. After that I reverted to normal mixed grip. Also, continued focus on strong set up ala Kelly Starrett.

About 10 minutes later I did Filthy Fifty with Pack reps but big dog exercises (bar single unders subbed for double unders)

35 Box jump, 24 inch box
35 Jumping pull-ups
35 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood

35 Knees to elbows
35 Push press, 45 pounds
35 Back extensions
35 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball

Did this on wednesday, almost as Rx'ed:

Box jumps - 18 inch bench, only one available
wall ball shots - 12# ball, heaviest available

all others exercises as prescribed. all sets broken. The burpees almost made me quit after the first 20, but I broke down the last 30 into sets of 5, with 30 seconds rest between each set, and got thru it. double unders were hard, I think i'm swinging the rope 3 times, when it should be twice, and i'm also jumping too hard. I need to watch the Buddy Lee videos again. But that being said, after 1 1/2 years of crossfit, I actually finished the whole thing, so I'm happy!

I don't usually ask for much, and I know I'm a day behind, but can someone PLEASE give me a "WOOT WOOT!"?

Did jumps on Ab bench (looked a little short of 24 inches)

Had to do KB swings next (all 3 pullup bars were taken, although no one was doing pullups)

Need to use a riser for jumping pullups next time to make up for my shortness

Wallball w/ 15lbs (heaviest available)

Threw in 50 situps because I can't follow directions

Second day of CrossFit and I survived! With a heavily modified workout, of course:
25 Box jump, 18" box I'm guessing
25 Jumping pull-ups
25 Kettlebell swings, 12 lb
Walking Lunge, 25 steps
10 Knees to SHOULDERs and 15 'knees to elbows' on an incline bench. Turns out I have no grip strength. Who knew?!
25 Push press, 18 pounds
25 Back extensions
25 Wall ball shots, 10?? pound ball - it was all I could find at my gym. Also, no wall I could throw against, so I just threw straight up in the air. Is that an OK modification?
25 Burpees
25ish Double unders - I can't do more that 3 consecutive DU's, and yes i have the welts on my ankles to prove my effort! But I eventually got them in. Dang, but I remember being good at jumping rope back when I was 12!

Pre: 5 min wal to jog, CFWU x 1 (light)

WOD: Working on strained (hopefully not torn) left quad from yesterday; didn't want to miss this, so I gave it my best shot...I'm a day behind. Started off great until lunges...did 'em, but paid for it (my body was done with any bent-knee stuff). Continued on until WB's (45# thrusters for me @ globo). Suffered through 25; pain stopped me. Tried burpees; stopped @ 10. Tried tucks (can't DU yet); stopped @ 10. Decided to stop pushing it. Subbed 35# DB for swings, knee-ups, 45# GM's for back extensions, and 45# thrusters for WB's, as mentioned before. Time-31:16. Avg. HR: 153. Skipping tommorrow's WOD; hopefully rest is all I need.

In about 40 minutes, I:

- bench jump <24" (that scary old guy staring at me)
- jumping PU (hard at the gym their bar is higher)
- 15 kg DB swing (very doable)
- walking lunge (nice)
- knees to elbows (okay, about 3-5ish real ones, a number of failed attempts to get me to about 15, could only do 4 in a row at any time, and then finished it out in that thing with the arm rests and back rest where you can lift your knees up)
- bar push press (behind head) (hard, but doable)
- back ext (3 sets)

At that point, I grabbed the DB's for the thrusters, but it had been 40 minutes, I felt I'd done enough.

Lost a lot of morale in the KTE's - I just can't do those! The jumping PU weren't great either.

If I were to try it again today, I would do fewer jumping PU's, maybe 20 or 30, where I could conceivably charge through them (ish). Replace all but the first 5 KTE with those knee raises in the machine

Basically limit anything that really makes me take rests or limit things I just can't do.

31:10 mostly as required for everything, except I subbed tuck jumps for DU (my foot most likely will require surgery sometime and when I do DU with intesity I end up limping for a few days after.... not worth the difference to me.) I also use a dumbell not kettlebells... that's what my gym's got baby.
Also, I use 20# dumbells for thrusters instead of wallballs because the heaviest ball that the gym has is 10# and that's too easy. Are these good equivalents... I don't want to be cheating myself by thinking I'm doing something equivalent and I end up doing something that's easier.
Please let me know about the equivalents/ alternate exercises to use when equipment or whatever prevents the exact as Rx. Thanks a lot.
I'm seeing PR's on almost all my WOD's lately, I think that incorporating more cardio on off days is helping with some of my times.
Keep on keepin on... with INTENSITY.. Quality AND Quantity.. NOT or.

My burpees were horrible, literally ONE at a Time.

Been out of comission since 3/3/08 'cuz I caught a nasty sinus cold that my daughters had. A week off with a bad cold and no exercise has its consequences.

Warm up - 1 mile run in 8:00. Tabata intervals on TM - 12% incline @ 7.5 mph for 4 minutes.

WOD - Made it through the box jumps, jumping pull-ups, kb swings, lunges & 35 out of 50 knees to elbows in 16:30 - then thought I was going to die. Nauseaus, dizzy and generally unwell so I threw in the towel. Don't want to get sick again. Next time I might scale this to the Filthy 35 until I can fully kick it's a$$ and then work my way up to the full 50.

More than two weeks late due to Lemoore trip and skipping wods to surf.

WU - DU practice and arm circles
WOD - 20" box (highest at NPAC), 35 lb db, bar a few inches past max reach, "standard" BE (not GHD), Buddy Lee rope
32:20

Having the bar that high changed it a lot! Baby jumps put me at full extension on the bar so I experimented a bit with different jumps and concluded the most efficient was probably a medium effort jump. I'm getting better with the Buddy Lee rope. I am just starting to feel the wrist movement that will eventually make the whole DU thing easier. Screwing up a lot, only getting 3 or 4 at a time really wastes both time and energy. Hopefully next time Filthy Fifties comes around I will have the DUs wired. That will save at least two minutes right there.

Definitely a love-hate relationship with this WOD.

Started with 3min jumprope and 3CFWU.

45:41 to complete.

Sub'd in 12" box jump with 40lb vest, dumbbell swings with 35lbs, thruster 45lbs and 100 single skips. All others as rx'd.

Slower time than last time I did this by 4 min, but I was much closer to the rx'd WOD than I was that time, so I still feel good about it, for a beginner.

Because equipment was being used, I finished everything but burpees and knees to elbows. I did 30 burpees then had to quite as I was close to vomiting and I did want to make a mess. Total time was not accurate since I had to wait for some equipment but was about 35 minutes (but incomplete)
