We can break them up into sets, but we can't partition them.
That is, we can't do ten rounds of 10 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 10 squats but we can break the pull-ups up into as many sets as we have to to finish them before moving on to the push-ups.
I think there may be a typo here. Did they add a 0 by accident?
My first time with Angie... I'm getting butterflies already :)

Completed a 6th round just for fun. Love this workout. It was just what I needed today. Makes me a little sore-and hyper after :)
Saturday is a typical rest day for me, so get a couple extra pull ups for me!

I've been coming to this website for about two weeks now, and have been doing the WODs for about as long, I just wanted to say that you are ALL an inspiration to me. Keep up the great work!
I do have a quick question though. When doing the pull-ups for this WOD, I am doing them at home on a makeshift pull-up bar. For me right now, doing 100 pull-ups is tough, and I haven't got the room to work the kipping pull-up. Is it OK to scale down the number of pull-ups I do, in order to get through this WOD?

"Angie" was one of the first workouts I was exposed to for CrossFit and I used to build my strength and endurance up to complete the WOD's by starting out at 25 of each and building up from there. Now, I am ready to time myself with the full thing. Wish me luck.
I also have to make up the workout from Leap Day... I am SOOO glad tomorrow is a rest day.
SML, I bet you are going to regret that little addition for your WOD on the 29th. 50-ish more days... then you are home to me. Yippee!!!

Like #16 and #21 said, do jumping pull-ups and accentuate the negative (the down side) of the pull-up. This will get you on the fast track to being able to do 100 kipping pull-ups with no problem. Good luck & most importantly, don't give up. It'll all come in due time.

What do you do for a warmup for this wod?
During my warmup for this I usually just stare at the pull-up bar for a while and then the ground and then my medicine ball. Kind of in a stupor thinking about what I am going to do to my body.
Are they ghd situps or regular situps?

3 rounds of 10-15 reps of
Samson Stretch (do the Samson Stretch once each round for 15-30 seconds)
Overhead Squat with broomstick
Sit-up
Back-extension
Pull-up
Dip
Note that for a workout that's dip or pullup-centric, you might want to do something else in the warmup.
If they don't say GHD sit ups then are regular. Why would you want to do the harder version?
They are what ever kind of sit-ups you want them to be.
Just make a note of what kind of sit-ups you did so you have a better comparison for the next time Angie pops up.

Because we should be striving to achieve elite fitness, and pushing yourself to the limit is mandatory for most people to be "elite". This is why I will be doing GHD's
Oddly enough, I will be able to manage 100 pull ups while struggling to get 100 push-ups! In the same vein, I can strict press more than I can bench! Anybody else with me on this?
Anyway, Great WOD leading up to a rest day!

Yo Gaucoin my brother from the far north! I forgot to mention how happy I am that you are back.
I find unanchored Abmat sit-ups (with the feet sole to sole) where you sit all the way up and push your abs forward and sit nice and tall to be a lot harder than GHD sit-ups (parallel to the floor). Of course, GHD sit-ups when you reach all the way back and touch the floor trump everything. Those just suck.

I'm newish to CF, but have been doing WODs for about 6wks. I've been training for a lot longer in other systems, and seem to be competitive with the message board postings.
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if guys like Speal have a training history prior to CF or not? What are these guys doing to jump up to the next level (don't say the ZONE, i'm already a fan)?
For this one, it is 100 kipping pull ups?

Check out you local 'rigging and supply' vendors for rope that's thicker than 3/4". Depending on what they normally stock, you might be required to purchase a spool of what you're looking for. You can also search the message board under equipment for vendors on the 'net.

#36- mcmasters.com has really good rope prices. 1" to 1.5" would be a good size to get. most lengths in gyms for climbing are anywhere from 15' to 20'.

Hands are still torn up which hurt on the pull ups.
Somebody please elaborate on the "rules" here. I am under the impression that this is for time - so you can mix these events up however you see fit...not necessarily finish every rep of one thing before moving onto the next. Also that pull-ups can be any grip, any style - just get your chin over the bar 100 times...
Please school me on the appropriate method for self-destruction here.
We will be adding again, already did the lunch session - will post complete W/O upon completion of the evening session.
We have been going at this CF / Gym Jones-ish pace for about two weeks now and the results have been great - feeling a little destroyed however...
PS - TTC (yesterday's comment), we dont watch the videos on either site, server here wouldnt allow it even if we tried. And for the record, we have never violated the Laodicean border...unless posting to this site does just that...you tell us.

With Angie, the goal is to accomplish each exercise before moving to the next in the shortess time possible. This WOD is for total time.
If you are really good at situps then you can essencially make up time that you might have lost on the push ups if that is your weak area.
The beauty of Angie is that it really tests your endurance and strength and how much you are willing to stick with the WOD once fatigue sets in.

Did this in 20:28, i ran 5 miles before doing this workout.....kinda sucked on the squats today....did 80 last night at 135lbs. I did most of the push-ups as diamonds. All dead hangs pull-ups,once i got to 91 i could only get 2 at a time. At the end i did 100 flutter kicks just to shake out my legs...wound up killing my hip-flexors.

Rx is a medical shorthand term that means prescription.
Coach "prescribes" us workouts. Like any other drug, Crossfit being one that if you truely get into it, will make you higher than ever, you are to take them "as prescribed", or "as rx'd". However, sometimes modifications need to made to the WOD, as Annlee stated, and scaled for a varied number of reasons. When we do the WOD as RX'd, we post "as rx'd". If we do jumoing pullups, modified pushups 76-100, crunches, but squats as rx'd....well I think you get the gist ofo what it means now!

I hear you cats on the sit up options, but if someone is asking what type sit ups to use, they are probably new to the game and should stick with regular. I'm all about trying harder ones if I've done a WOD enough times (like when we did Michael about 6 times back in the fall) but if I'm doing this as rx'ed, as in for speed, I'm doing the fasted method possible. If I'm at the CF games and sit ups come out of the hopper, I sure as sugar ain't asking where the GHD bench is.

First time performing "Angie." One thing has become very apparent to me from the last month's worth of workouts - I'd better learn how to perform kipping pullups. Today's 100 dead-hang pullups took almost 17 minutes.

how do you not partion them? of course you partion them.Are you asking somehting else, cause partion means to break the large set, ie., 100, into smaller sets, ie., 5 sets of 20...10 sets of 10, etc. If you are asking if you are to do all 100 of one before moving onto the next exercise, then that answer is yes.

BUT...I broke them up differently than I was supposed to. I started with pullups and did until failure(first set was 36), than immediately went into pushps to failure(56), then right into sit-ups(completed in one set), then to failure on squats(63). I then went back to failure on pullups and so on until until I was left with about a dozen or so pullups that I finished up with.I than followed it up with 20 minutes of running.
I might not have been as RXd but it was much faster than previuos Annies(by a few minutes).
I'm happy with results and that I hit a single set PB on the pullups.

Pete wrote "#126 JRock - "partition" doesn't mean the same thing as "broken sets" - "Partition" in this workout would be the method you described that is not allowed - like you said, almost everyone will have broken sets though".
First of all, if you look up in the dictionary the definition of partition, you will see the first sentence you wrote is inaccurate. Partition in fact does mean to break up the sets.
Secondly, had I just started crossfitting or just started posting on this site, it would make more sensxe to me as to why you would even say something, something obviously cloaked in ignorance with a hint of self righteous indignation,to me anyway. I was helping the brother.
Thirdly, if you are going to correct someone, although I would suggest staying away from looking like a know it all (there are enough on here as it is), especially when what you have to say is inaccurate.
It is people like you, and Josh, and others, who will surely respond to this by telling me not to get my panties in a ruffle or let my bp get too high, because thinking of something real to say, like NOTHING AT ALL, is beyond your reach and capabilty.
As you saw, I was not looking for help with the answer to a question, I was trying to help.

Well this was ugly. I don't think Angie likes me. I can do 10 quality dead hang pullups, so not wanting to slow the workout down and not having the kipping thing down yet, I tried using assisted pullups, hoping the high reps would still yield a good conditioning overload response. Even assisted it nailed me.
I am certainly no adonis, but I could score a 270 on the APFT when I started crossfitting at the end of November. Of course, I have gained about 25 pounds intentionally the last seven months too, 171 to 196. Maybe not such a good idea. Anyway maybe this will encourage the mere mortals on here. I started cramping at about 50 reps of everything in the places you would imagine for that exercise. this is my first 100 rep Angie, did 50s in the past.

Sit ups - feet anchored, hands behind head, elbows to kness

Also new it would not be beneficial for me to max out on pull ups in the beginning, but I wanted to take the opportunity see if i've made any improvements since last pull up max... Went from 41 a few weeks ago to 45 today. I can see 50 in the near future... then maybe start to focus on some more weighted pull ups.

I did this with my brother, whose is a SEAL. I started pullups, and he started pullups when I started pushups. He was gaining on me from the start and finished in 12 and change. Humbling.
Can't get to a pull up bar today as I'm at home with a sick family. But I was able to do everything else in 6:47. Pull ups would of been near the slowest, so maybe a true finsh time of ~14 min? Maybe next time I'll get the pull ups in!
First time with Angie I think, 27 minutes and pukie came around (could have been due to the previous nights extracurricular activities).
Been Crossfitting for three months and seen amazing results.
I was very impressed at my globo gym today when they through out a bench but kept the inner/outer thigh machine. Probably the most used piece of equipment in my gym, ridiculous. Definitely can't wait to get back to the tri-state area and join a CF gym.
Checked out gymjones.com, is there any relation to the Crossfit team? Seemed very similar in theory.

also tore a nice 1" callous on my hand. for the first time. 'been reading these posts about torn callouses for about a year now thinking "meh, that'll never happen to me". Now I feel your pain, brethren. I think it's cause I was jumping to a relatively high pullup bar for a good kip and couldn't set my hands properly. so now I'm off to read about taping hands and fake skin.
