Sweet, Eva finally has her own workout! Looks like its gonna kickass! Jeez 5 rounds of 800m runs, 2 pood swings and 30 pullups!

WTF... Eva! Well she liked the Run Cert.

Comment #9 - Posted by: GP at February 23, 2008 7:14 PM

man, this is gonna suck. can't wait. 30 reps of 2 pood. . . i'm tired just thinking of that. this is actually going to take forever. yep, forever.

Comment #10 - Posted by: hub at February 23, 2008 7:18 PM

Holy F'ing S ! Eva, if I make it through this, will you marry me?

Comment #11 - Posted by: bs2103 at February 23, 2008 7:19 PM

this is not going to be fun at all, therefore it will be all fun.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Kyle S. at February 23, 2008 7:20 PM

YES!!

Comment #13 - Posted by: Chris from Tx at February 23, 2008 7:20 PM

That was a good video. Can't wait for Part Deux. That punk is going down!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Steve br at February 23, 2008 7:20 PM

Wow! Not only does Eva get a wod, she gets an extra long, extra painful wod, one worthy to share her name. This is going to hurt. I can't wait.
3-2-1 go.

Comment #15 - Posted by: JPW at February 23, 2008 7:20 PM

We need a video posted of Eva doing "Eva". That would only be right!

S/F

Comment #16 - Posted by: Stalter/M/29/70/200 at February 23, 2008 7:21 PM

Are we sure someone didn't make a mistake and this is really only 3 rounds??? I seriously don't know if I can last...I need some of that "crossfit heart" to push me through...

Comment #17 - Posted by: leah at February 23, 2008 7:23 PM

holy crap. Guess I've never done Eva before

Anyone know the last time we did this?

Comment #18 - Posted by: john g at February 23, 2008 7:24 PM

Well, Eva does like Helen.
So why not?

I like the increased play the 2 pood is getting. Kinda like how the double under became a usual occurance half of a year ago.

Comment #19 - Posted by: VAS at February 23, 2008 7:24 PM

Holy Moly! Helen kills me, and now THIS??

I love the video - I'm REALLY hoping this guy is just acting the part of the cocky schmuck. There's only one possible end to this "competition".

Comment #20 - Posted by: Jonathan/38/m/220/6'4" at February 23, 2008 7:24 PM

Five rounds of 800m runs, that's harsh. Chipper!

Nice pressing, boys!!

Comment #21 - Posted by: gaucoin at February 23, 2008 7:26 PM

Super cool. Freddy rules!

Man, I sound like a teenager!

Comment #22 - Posted by: bladeboy at February 23, 2008 7:27 PM

Holy sugar! The video is brilliant; the workout is extraordinary; and we are all the better for it!

This whole Crossfit experience is beyond anything that has ever been put forth on such a scale. The organization has given something to us that is both personal and collective - amen to Coach et al.

The "ONE WORLD" vid was great...can't wait for part 2.

Congrats on the presses!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Stalter/M/29/70/200 at February 23, 2008 7:32 PM

Oh noes haha this is a great way to start my reading week (College Vacation) Good thing the YMCA here on campus is going to be empty, no one to see me puke and/or faint.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Kyle 5'10/m/20/168 Kingston, ON at February 23, 2008 7:32 PM

There's a whole lot of awesomeness on CrossFit.com today!

YAY EVA! :) You deserve it! This workout is going to kill me but I'm going to enjoy it.

I get such a kick out a seeing Tony work out. Freddy and Jolie totally rock. Cool people and great CrossFitters. Can't wait for part II.. I wonder who's going to win ;) GIRL POWER.

Love you Sevan.

Comment #26 - Posted by: AllisonNYC_23/5'2/125 at February 23, 2008 7:37 PM

Wow, very nicely put together video. I love the transitions (the rower especially), and the little profile flashes with music.

Somehow I think the guy was acting cocky for the camera. I don't think he really meant all that knowing who Jolie is.

Comment #27 - Posted by: VAS at February 23, 2008 7:38 PM

Brilliant. Sheer genius.

Comment #28 - Posted by: Mark Lee at February 23, 2008 7:38 PM

I always knew I was intimidated to DATE EVA

Now I know she is going to hurt me!

Helen on roids, this is going to hurt!

I think I will go now and assume the fetal position and suck my thumb in the corner.

Comment #29 - Posted by: wtp at February 23, 2008 7:39 PM

This W.O.D. looks absolutely ridiculous. I've never even done Helen. I can't wait to see the next vid either. Freddy is the man, he's been one of my hero ever since the Bear video. Jolie totally rocks, I hope we get an interview with her sometime soon. If she and I were competing she'd have enough time after she was finished to run down to the local hospital and get me an I.V.

Comment #30 - Posted by: Edwin 25/M/5'8"/175 at February 23, 2008 7:41 PM

Well... Helen is one of my favs but this seems like a bit much. Freddy its hard to imagin a time when you couldnt press 200. hope you're having a blast at the oly cert this weekend, looking forward to being hit hard with all the new stuff you learn.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Drew at February 23, 2008 7:42 PM

This one's ridiculous. I can't even find a 2 pood kettlebell and it'll take me all day to do 150 pull-ups, maybe I can rest up while doing the run. Do this for time? How about do this for survival? If you live through it you win.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Jim at February 23, 2008 7:48 PM

Dude, what is this?

Comment #33 - Posted by: Fat Slice at February 23, 2008 7:49 PM

Holy hell. Eva deserves nothing less than a workout this brutal.

3, 2, 1, GO!

Comment #34 - Posted by: MaxG at February 23, 2008 7:50 PM

We LOVE Eva. (Not so sure about your workout)

Comment #35 - Posted by: Jeff at February 23, 2008 7:51 PM

Eva was one of the reasons I was motivated to start Crossfit almost two years ago. Took a little bit of a break good WOD to start back on. Can't wait!

Comment #36 - Posted by: Jay M at February 23, 2008 7:52 PM

Well, we asked for it ... we got it. Could it have been more fitting?

I'm w #17 ... I think someone miscounted. Who's the mad scientist that dreamt this one up?

I hope my 2 pood KB gets here soon, I don't like the "duct tape plate" routing ... but that's not a whine.

Can't wait to see how Eva does on this one.

Paul

for scaling the kettle bell weight should i try to do the px-ed weight and just break the 30 reps up a lot or scale down to a weight i can do 30 straight reps of?? thanks
-Robert

Comment #41 - Posted by: Robert at February 23, 2008 8:02 PM

Good to put a face with the posts, freddy c. !! I think the 150 2 pood kb swings is a WOD in itself. I will die.

Comment #45 - Posted by: Rob at February 23, 2008 8:14 PM

#42 Robert

You want a weight you are comfortable with. Don't go swinging the 2 pood if you can only knock them out 1 at a time. I would recommend a weight that you can get around 5 reps in a row in the last round.

If you decide to use the 2 pood, or any heavy kettle bell, make sure you have a nice solid swing. Don't compromise form for weight.

Comment #46 - Posted by: MarieCFATL at February 23, 2008 8:15 PM

Tony,

This is one of your best productions to date. Really nice work, very funny, edited perfectly and a fantastic representation of the competitive nature of CrossFit. Big props to you, Patrick, Jamie and the rest of your crew.

Please Eva post your time for this so that I'm not feeling too bad.

Come on fellas let's get at this one.

Comment #54 - Posted by: Irving at February 23, 2008 8:29 PM

Russian measure used for kettlebells; common ones: 1 pood =36 lbs; 1.5 pood = 54 lbs; 2 pood = 72 lbs. Approx db equivalents are 35, 55, 70

Oh yeah, I think I am in love with Freddy's dimples...yeah, I am.

can I just curl up in the fetal position now?

Actually, I love these crazy workouts.

Maybe this should be the official Crossfit warmup. Anyone else agree?

Comment #72 - Posted by: James Forbes at February 23, 2008 9:31 PM

34:53 - 800 meter runs in apartment garage (lots of turnarounds), 30 72# kb swings just above forehead height, 30 kipping pullups.

The first set of swings were unbroken, the rest broken at 20/10. The final round had my hamstrings shaking; go thing there wasn't a sixth round.

Doing pullups after the heavy kb swings, the morning's 8 min kb snatch set and the 200+ pullups from the Lynne WOD (forearms and lats still sore) was an interesting spectacle. All the rounds were broken into sets of 15-10 reps. Hands slightly scraped (palms), but in good condition overall.

Comment #76 - Posted by: lara at February 23, 2008 9:41 PM

Regarding the wod: Holy S! That's all.

Sevan - you're wearing a visor bro. You best be able to back that fashion statement up with some serious crossfit action!

Comment #86 - Posted by: pierre augé at February 23, 2008 10:24 PM

The first thing I thought when I saw the workout was: this is what Helen would look like if she would work out more often.

I will have to sub 50 kb swings (not that I will really want to) with my wimpy 1.5 pood since I don't have a 2 yet.

Congratulations, Eva, on having a benchmark workout named after you (especially one so tough).

Substitutions:
(1) 2-pood KB, used 50lb dumbbell..no KB(s) and any more weight than that is jacking up my back.
(2) Ran on treadmill
(3) Used "Gravitron" during pull-ups, can't manage that many without it, no bands here.

Total = 42:37

This one looked bad on paper, so scaled down radically:
No wu
5 sets:
Run 800 meters on treadmill 10km/h
1 pood (16kg) DB swing, 21 reps, continuous sets
21 Pull-ups, broken sets
50 min

The two pood swings killed me.

Comment #100 - Posted by: Corman at February 24, 2008 12:39 AM

so even though today was a rest day, i decided to go in and work on muscle ups because i've only gotten 2 before. i'm so jacked up right now b/c i busted off about 20 or so singles and even did a couple multiples. my workout partner was the same way. he got his first MU today and then did 3 consecutive and probably about 20 total as well. we had to force ourselves to stop and leave the gym because we were so excited. we took some videos on our cell phones and were sending them to all of our workout friends to rub it in!!! i love being excited about working out again. thanks crossfit....

Comment #101 - Posted by: JHOW at February 24, 2008 12:50 AM

Ha!
keep those videos coming.

The focus mitts at the beginning would have been enough evidence for me NOT to make cop/donut jokes...
I shoulder press like 137# though, so I would have to throw the bar at Freddy's feet to hope for a win.
(Interestingly enough something I've seen at our gym) I guess not all CrossFitters are wound too tight though.

Comment #102 - Posted by: Cullen at February 24, 2008 12:50 AM

WOW! I cant wait to sink my teeth into this one tomorrow morning.

EVA.....congrats on the honorary WOD. Just think.....all the hard work you have no doubt put in over the years, training yourself physically and mentally, setting an example for so many. Now hundreds of thousands of people are going to be sweating, hyperventilating, bleeding and puking in the pursuit of a new level of personal fulfilment as well. Not a bad imprint to leave.

YOU ROCK! As does Crossfit.....go hard folks!

I'd like to publically say thanks to Coach and Eva (though I've never had the pleasure of meeting them).

Although I'm taking a combination of drugs to prevent a case of bronchitis from becoming full-blown pneumonea, I completed the workout as required in 1:11:24 by pacing my way through it.

While completing this monster is a reward all in itself, what I am truly most thankful for is the fact that 13-months ago, when I deployed to Afghanistan, I had trouble completing even a single pull-up. I'm now looking forward to getting healthy again so I can see what kind of real time I can achieve.

Thank you Coach and Eva for raising my expectations, transforming my body, and helping me realize that nothing is impossible if have enough heart, determination, and focus.

this is one of those workouts that I don't tell friends or co-workers about.. seriously, they A) wouldn't believe people do this kind of stuff. B) would think I'm bragging.

150 pull-ups.. cuz 100 just won't suffice.

alright.. time to get at it.

Comment #108 - Posted by: jack at February 24, 2008 3:36 AM

Brilliant Video!

Sevan (I have no idea how to spell his name) is brilliant in duping us.

Freddy C....bro you rock in humility. It's really humbling to watch you make the press look so damn easy.

Tony, not only is filming your forte, comedy is as well.

And lastly, Jolie......What I want to put into words would have my wife kill me. Your beauty and fitness prowess is magnificent!

The site and the level of professionalism from CrossFit just keeps getting better and better.

Comment #109 - Posted by: Matt Hunt at February 24, 2008 3:41 AM

Good video...that's some solid presses...
This WOD is going to make me cry...
4km of running, 150 32kg swings and 150 PUs...
I think this 'Eva' might be as scary as Murph, with enhanced pukie-factor...
Those swings are going to tough the first few rounds, and impossible in the last few given the number of swings and the PUs in the mix...
Can't wait to see the times...I'll guesstimate that the beasts will turn this out in sub 25, and I'll take close to 40 (I'll aim for less :)

Coach,

I have a doubt about the WOD:
Are you training to failure?

In her recent interview (Tuesday video), Eva was asked to name a workout she might like named after her, and she mentioned "Helen."

So, now there is "Eva," like “Helen” but with about three times the running, three times the kettlebell work, and four times the pull-ups.

OPT, with a 7-minute Helen, will probably need at least 30 minutes for this. I’m hoping to stay below one hour.

The good news is that Eva didn't suggest "Murph.” Had she done so, we might have ended up with:

Run 5K
300 Pull-ups
600 Pushups
900 Squats
Run 5K

Five rounds for max reps of:
Body weight bench press (subbed 135#): 6,6,6,5,5 (just barely got last one)
Pull-ups 14,13,13,11,11

Same weight on BP as last time, because did not complete at least 5x5. Took time each rep to make sure of breathing.

PUs one fewer than last time. Got to squeeze out some more.

I'm well below BW on my bench. I don't do BP's unless part of WOD. My strategy is to treat this WOD as 5 work sets for which I have to do at least 5 reps before moving up. 140 next time.

Freddy and Tony - most imPRESSive.

After Fight Gone Bad at Windy City CrossFit yesterday (first time doing that one-yowza), I was fortunate enough to witness Justin (our trainer) crush the 30 muscle-up WOD in 4:26. Inspired, a group of us hit the rings to practice and just as I was demonstrating where I always get stuck (the transition)...

I got a muscle-up!

Woof, that was one of the most heinous WODs I've ever seen, a huge mental battle the whole time.

44:13 using treadmill on incline of 2, 75lb DB and a brutal pull up bar. Equipment was lacking at the hall but I got gassed early and took waaaay too many breaks. The swings were nasty with the heavy DB with zero knurling on the handle, grip got smoked really quickly and made the chins much harder than usual. I see many people opting out of this one.

Pre-Burgener's plus long CNS warm-up.
Post-fire hall clean up, mostly mopping.

I've been doing WOD since December but have felt silly posting before now; I'm such a lightweight by crossfit standards. BUT this is such an intimidating WOD, I feel TOUGH for even giving it a go, no matter how heavily scaled!

4 rounds 400m (approx, a little further I think)
1/2 pd KB swing
15 jumping pullups

29:03

of course I kept the clock running while walking (slowly) from my outdoor running path back to house for KB and PU, and got my 2 year old snack twice, which inflated my time. But I was so grateful for the rest I didn't even care!

Thanks Crossfit. This site is such an inspiration.

Three rounds for time of:
Run 400 meters
15-24# Kettlebell swing, 15 reps
15 Beginner or Jumping Pull-

Didn't do an official time but it was roughly 18-20 minutes.

Getting back into it after a long 4 months off. I have been looking at this everyday for those months and finally feel able to post again.

This community is a great inspiration.

I am too tired to even throw up..

Great WOD...

Had to Scale a bit.

800 M Run
30 40# DB to forehead
30 Jumping Pullups

Finished in 58:25. Felt great to be done...was worried in the middle when I was counting each 100 M that I ran. Not a good sign. I should have used 50# DB, did not feel horrible after 40#. Great day to be on the track though. Sunny, no wind, 40 degrees.

This is only my 5th week on the program, and Feeling a bit down about my lack of strength, but I am happy that I am not giving up. Thanks for the videos and advice.

Pre: 500m row, CFWU, BWU, easy 26# kb swings each round of CFWU.

Scaled to 53# KB for swings (no 2 pd yet), otherwise same as called for: 41:31.

Easy 500m row cool down.

Nasty blood blister on right hand. Usually they blow before I notice them...this time I switched grips on PU and saved a blowout. However, now I am not sure whether to lance it or leave it. Any tips?

Comment #202 - Posted by: Joel B. at February 24, 2008 10:39 AM

Two questions:

What song is that on the video? How many strict pull-ups would equal 30 Kipping. My 2 pood KB arrived last month and all I used it for was a door stop and for anchoring on sit-ups.....until this sadistic biyatch showed up. I have put this off all day.

This is the hardest workout I have done in my 10 months of CrossFit!

"Eva"
As rx'd (man that feels good to say!)
Time: 58:53

Hung my rings from the goalposts at the local football field for pullups. 800m runs on the track.
Subbed 72#DB for 2 pood KB. All kb swings broken into sets of 10/10/10 or 15/15.
Pullups quickly degenerated into jumping.

This was as much a mental workout as a physical workout. I wanted to quit several times.

I knew from looking at her picture that Eva would hurt me if we ever met, and I was right!

M 33 / 183 /6’2.5”
Scaled Eva 36:39
Run 800 meters (on treadmill)
1.53 pood DB swing, 30 reps
20 Pull-ups (except 1st round 30 reps)

Total time 36:39

Swings all in one set except last 5th set broken into 17+13 with about 15 sec rest. Form was suffering and I was getting worried about injury. Really pushed myself on these. Sets 3-4 were rage and tears from 12 forward all the way to 30.
Pull ups: first set broken into 4 sets (30 reps) , 2-3 sets done with 4 rep sets. 4th don with 4-3 rep sets. Last set broken into 4-2 rep sets. (When I started cross fit 2 months ago I had difficulties getting 10 consecutive pull ups.)
Fantabulous work out, even when scaled down like this. Rush, rage, tears, endorphins and a lot of weird looks (I guess, difficult to see with tears in your eyes) at the local globo gym.

I logged on this morning checked out my workout for the day and took off to the gym. It looked ugly but I've thought that before since starting these workouts in December. After round one, as rx'd, I was crapped out. Round two as rx'd almost killed me. Round three I had to scale back on the swings and had to finish that way. Today was the first time on a heavy pullup day I've actually done them all without any jumping pulls so that was an accomplishment, but the new blisters will sting for a couple of days until the cfwu works those things into calluses. I finished in just under an hour 57:06 to be exact. I came home complaining to the wife that todays workout seemed exceptionally rough what with 150 pullups...she nodded as she usually does and just walked away so I come here to commisserate with my fellow crossfitters and find out this is a totally new deal, and here I was thinking I was just being soft. I kept going back to the pullup bar over and over again and I think the gym was watching me...calling the soft celled paddy wagon in to take me off with the grunting and groaning over the pain in my hands.

Thanks for something new to look forward to....

this was my 3rd crossfit work out, so I’m going to post so i can look back. my first day was a rest day, which i hoped was an auspicious start to this practice but i was wrong.

i run marathons and regularly swim in the san francisco bay and xfit is severely humbling. Each day I am sorer than the day before.

anyway, today took me 39 minutes but i know i was doing things wrong. after waiting all morning for the rain to ease up, i finally went out. I built a kowbell using a six pack cooler I normally keep beer in but filled it with rocks. I did pull ups on a rickety trellis, but managed. I ran up to my old house—a small incline—but I think its less than 800 meters. This country should switch to metric.

So by the time I was done, I was soaked, and the rain finally stopped as I carried a load of wood in for the fire.

Eva as rx'd - 46:50

My fingers don't really work to type right now. That was one of the worst. Did the workout at MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) in San Diego... On round 3 some lady told me I was going to hurt myself, on round 4 the guy working the gym asked me to stop, I didn't. Rep 29 on set 5 I dropped the KB from head high because my left hand failed.

Jay did as rx'd in 43:30.

CFWU (minus pull-ups)

did sets of 10 pull-ups instead of 30. I am still working on my kip - its challenging breaking my 19 yrs of doing strict military dead hang pu. Subbed 70# db for kb. Tore skin off my L pinky from db friction. I am truly impressed by some of the times I am reading on the post. I will get fitter (is that a word?).

"Eva"

I got to tell you...i'm sick today and pissed. I know it may sound like a cop out with today being exceptionally hard, but I am actually mad that I have a sinus infection and can't do it. I think i'm going to make it up on the next off day, or 10k day. In the mean time, untill i'm not hacking up and dripping out green snot, it's time to seriously scale all workouts. (i'm hoping this will only last one cycle so i can get back to it)

Anyway, this is my sick boy version
1 mile run
21-15-9 70lb. db swings, pull ups

That was a WAR of a workout! Wasn't sure I would do all 5 rounds. My mind kept telling me, just do 3 rounds that's good enough.

Sub'd rows for runs

jumping pull-ups last 2 rounds, only because I broke my pull-up bar on the 3rd round.

70 lb. dumbbell for swings (damn that was tough)

Comment #282 - Posted by: JDale M-37-6'2"-178 at February 24, 2008 1:35 PM

Eva had her way with me....and I liked it. Sub'd 50 lb. DB for the KB's...everything else as RX'd
right at 60 minutes. Got me some today....

Comment #283 - Posted by: Chester SATX at February 24, 2008 1:37 PM

Congrats Eva, you're a rough one =)

As rxd (with a 74 lbs db for kb)

Took me 60:45

This is my first real post here. Have been doing CF since early january and been quietly reading all your entries while practising form etc. Seems it's time I start posting some results so I can be part of the forum as well!

Also, Nicholas - nice to meet you. Hope to see you again in the future!

Did the first round with a 70# db and realized that if I kept that up, I might die. So for rounds 2-5 I swung my 1 pood kb becuase it's easier to swing and of course lighter.

53:36

I hurt. Good times...

Ok my name is no longer Z princess warrior just call me Z!!!!! But I guess anyone that finished "Eva" should be considered a warrior.
warm-up:
15 overhead squats 35lbs
15 push-ups
3 rounds

WOD= 1 hour and 53 seconds

800 Meter Run
30 35 lb dumbbell swings
30 kipping pullups (jumping)

just when u think u've done the hardest CrossFit workout....guess again.

Comment #295 - Posted by: Z princess warrior at February 24, 2008 1:58 PM

Oh My Frigging Gord!

That was an intense workout. I would say that it gives the Filthy Fifty a HUGE challenge as one of the hardest for Crossfitters.

I think Coach got out the ramdom workout dice and added a couple in order to puch the number of reps this high.

Me - 72 inches, BW - 315 lbs.

Subbed 1000 m rows for the 800 m runs. Finished nearly all of them in about 4:40.

Split up the KB swings and the pullups to do 3 sets of 10. I alternated between the KB swings and the pullups. Subbed for pullups - needed the aid of the gravitron-like machine in the gym.

On average, I did one round in about 9 minutes.

With some minor interruptions from the body and the trainer in the gym getting in the way because of cleaning duties, I was able to finish the workout in just under 1 hour.

Eva - this is definitely a workout up to your standards.

To all others - get some!

Stuart
