Happy New Year!
Thank you Coach & Lauren for a great year.
happy, healthy and safe new year, all!
Third?! Drat! Foiled again... I wish you all a safe and happy new year!!
Maybe I can finally get this kipping thing figured out in 2008. :-)
Sorry forgot translation Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year
Sorry but newbie here.
These one rep workouts; Am I correct in saying you keep going until you max out? But if that is the case it seems possible to do only 3 reps if you guess your max correctly. One deadlift, one back squat, and one shoulder press. I must be missing something here.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Can't wait until my gym opens again :(
Steve, you got to warm up to it. It is a long workout.
Yippiee! 2008! Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and able to go to the gym.
Happy New Year all my CF friends!
#6 Steve-
The deal is to get your highest personal max in the three lifts. Get there as you may but then add your total poundage for the total, that is only the single highest lift for each.
You can look through the FAQ's for a good systemic way to achieve your highest one rep max.
Good luck, use good form and good judgement.
Wayne.
#6 steve and others who will ask similar questions:
Click on the "CrossFit Total" link. It will answer your questions and describe how to do the official CFT.
Two CFT's within the span of a week?!? That sounds a little ridiculous...
#10 Kieran. I was thinking the same thing...
My joints may need a break from 1 rm's. Maybe sub Grace or Isabel for this one. I can deal with high rep lifting, not sure about another CFT right now.
How do you figure a Grace or Isabel is a way to rest your joints compared to the Total? That's some crazy logic, but to each his own. Have fun with that!
Happy New Year everyone! Time to get buzzed like a mofo! It was a GREAT year, but next year will be even better!.
P.S.- I really wish that box of bars would fall off a truck near One World.
Happy and healthy new year everybody!
Shout out to the HQ crew. Thanks for the great year.
Special shout out to Coach & Lauren and their beautiful family! You've done so much for me and my crew here in NYC. Thanks a million.
------------NOTE TO ADMIN---------
As of 6:17pm, The WMV and MOV files are switched. Lauren, please re-link them in the html coding.
I look forward to the full rowing videos in the January CF Journal.
reminiscent of the double 10K a month or so back.....
3...2...1....Go!
By the way, thanks for posting the WOD early. Now I can hit my party and plan accordingly.
Simon, Keith,
How did your "joints" hold up? Did they whine? I'm guessing not, Studs.
Attitude is critical to success and survival.
Happy New Year!
Take a look at the way Eastern bloc countries train for power. They do these lifts several times a day!
I would assume there is a method to Coach's madness.
"The only easy day was yesterday"
One more week until O&A are back on air!
It's hard to workout without their replay going!
love me some crossfit total. thanks coach.

freddy forwarded your email to me. he's right. you should be president of the old guy club. i second the nomination. again, you are an inspiration. happy new year.
sailorcrew
get off of that tm and you will have the sub 9 for sure.

had a good time explaining what "fit as f**k" meant to my kids. :)
nadia
think it's time to up our game in the new year. i have a plan.
As I sit here watching the Hooters Bikini contest w/Bone & a few other close friends priming up for the inebitable New Years Party, I would like to take the time to bang out a thanks to Coach & all my CrossFit family for another great year. I owe you guys alot... Coach, Lauren, Annie & Jake, Nicole, Tony, etc... W/that being said, I raise my pint to toast all those who can't be here, who are laying it on the line in service of this great country.
Get some, Go again!
i would like to send a big thanks to coach and everyone in the crossfit community. may the coming year of crossfit be as great to all you as it has been to me in the past year. i'll be toasting some koolaid to that tonight.
happy new years!
Thanks CF for an amazing end to this year and a more powerful 2008! Thanks to the advice people have handed out in here.
CFT again? Yes! Maybe I can get my 200 Deadlift.
HAPPY NEW YEAR from Iraq
Happy New Year from Canada....
Tomorrow will be my one year anniversary with CrossFit. It gonna be KimFit day at my friend Mike Mc garage gym---can't wait.
Happy New Year Everyone!
Hey South Florida CrossFitters:
I'm going to be in Islamadora, 20 miles south of Key Largo from Jan 2-9. If you are in the area and have a facility or home gym I would be pleased to teach individual or group classes for free, in exchange for access to whatever equipment you have. I'll bring my rings too, so we can just train on the beach if you don't have any equipment and want to work out with me.
#11 Kieran, so don't do it.
Kieran,
If Coach posts CFT every day for two weeks, I'm doing it. I think he knows a thing or two...
Happy new year CF!
Thanks for the fittest year of my life. Here
s to an even better '08.

Happy New Year Crossfit, Coach and Community. From my family at work and at home, Thank you for the Gift of Crossfit. There is a strength in this stuff that is deeper than just Physical.

Well the gym isn't open tomorrow, so i guess i'll do tomorrow's and Wednesday's workout on the 2nd. Gonna be my second CFT. i HAVE to beat my first one (865). So pumped.
3-2-1 Go!
A Happy and Healthy New Year to this big honkin' CF community. You people are incredible.
Happy New Year from the East Coast
It's been great getting to know you all over the past couple months and I'm excited to spend this next year with the great people I have come to "know." 2008 will be fantastic, I can tell. Here's to new goals and great friendships.
PS. The New Years CFT. Start out here and work your way up. Awesome WOD
Did nt we just do this last week? Is this a regular workout that we will do?
1 Year Anniversary of CF.
Never Been better.

#39 Elspeth,
Yes. And Yes.
Happy New Year everyone!
I am excited to improve on my CFT, which I PR'd by 35# last time...I feel like I finally made some breakthroughs on DL and press (mental mostly). Gym is closed tomorrow, though, so I'll continue to make up WODs as I can at home.
For my own records: I completed 224/274 posted workouts in 2007. Those I missed were 24 for four weeks off, one every three months give or take, and the rest incidental...climbing or skiing, work projects (fence building), triathlons, etc. I would love to strive for a higher percentage completed next year but I feel I've kept myself honest this year. My strength and endurance have continued to improve, and I get a PR on nearly ever WOD still, with some exceptions (5K run notably, but that's because I started with running as something I was good at).
I hope we have another questionnaire like last year to see people's gains...that was fun to fill out and read about the phenomenal progress achieved by CFers everywhere.
One month of CF,feelin pretty good! Happy New Year to all crossfitters everywhere! May all our troops come home safe and sound!
What's up with the rust on barbells? That is boarder line sacrilege. Does anyone know what kind of bars those are and how much? I could use two more so I can do Three Bars of Death in my garage gym. Anyone in the market for barbells I recommend buying ones with a black bar. They hold chalk a lot better.
Cheers and Happy New Year!
HAPPY NEW YEARS ALL!
Been a great year last year. Discovered Crossfit and the addiction began. Once upon a time, I made New Years resolutions that revolved around weights, running etc and eating better, drinking less.
But since discovering Crossfit I now have all the information I need at my fingertips. I haven't done a WOD for about a week now, but I feel I needed a little break.
Tonight I am back with a vengeance.
Time to go punish this body.
Hope everyone has a great year.
Good luck to all those running a New Years Day race... remember it is fun first !!! If you arent enjoying then it isnt a good workout. Start simple.... :-) You have to start someplace....
Robin
PS looking forward to so many Crossift WOD's... especially for the lost SOF guys
Happy New Year, and thanks Coach and Crossfit for a great 2007 - my first full year with the program. My resolution is to get that muscle-up in '08...
I DID IT! AHHHH! I can't believe it! I can't believe it..
I just got home
I really can't believe I finished. 4 miles may not seem like a big deal to all of you at all but it's a HUGE deal for me. Before I started CrossFit I couldn't run for the bus without being rushed to the ER in an ambulance with an asthma attack.. Seriously. I ran about 6 or 7 times for CrossFit workouts like Helen and Nancy since I started. The longest distance I ever ran before tonight was the mile for Murph. I'm in shock that I was able to run with no breathing problems. This is ALL becuase of CrossFit. I've done no other training. If that's not proof that CrossFit works I don't know what is.
I feel like CrossFit has given me my life back. I can't explain how I felt when I was running. I just couldn't believe I was doing it. I felt free and alive.
The first mile was confusing. I was sure that I missed the mile marker because it felt like I had been running for so long. It was 9 minutes.
I kept a pretty good pace for the second mile- 10 minutes.
The third mile felt like an eternity until the weirdest thing happened- do you know how it feels to be on rollerblades going down a hill and you can't stop?? That's how I felt except I wasn't on skates and was't going down a hill. My legs had a mind of their own and I started going so fast and couldn't stop. I didn't even understand what was happening. Then Pukie started coming up behind me and my legs started to feel really slow. Mile 3 took me 11 minutes.
People were cheering like crazy on the 4th mile and boy did I need it. I felt good and pushed through. It took me about 10 minutes.
My goal was to just keep moving but I ran the whole way without walking. I did WAY better than I expected.
I finished in 40:10. I guess that's pretty slow but I made it and I've never felt more proud and grateful to Coach and co. I thought of you guys the whole way. I couldn't wait to get home and tell you guys what happened.
I can't believe I ran 4 miles and didn't die. This is awesome.
Happy New Year!
all those bars gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on just one of those... does anyone know any sales going on? drop me an email if you do.

Happy New Year,
I want to thank all dedicated crossfitters out there for making this one amazing year!
Keep your eyey open for CrossFit Central Edmonton to be one of the newest affiliates in the new year!
Happy New Year, everyone! May 2008 bring many, many PR's for the lot of you.
All the best,
Moz
Nappy Yew Hear! Oh, drat. Happy New Year!
Next year, I resolve to spend December 31st doing something less sophisticated, more gritty, and hopefully a bit dangerous. I want to be somewhere where something gets broken.
Champagne, high heels, and fancy stuff bores the shiznit out of me, and I forgot where I put my ability to deal with that. But, I got some pretty pictures of my boredom.
Ho hum. Off to bed once I get the false eyelashes off my face.
Next year, I resolve to ring in the new year in some place like Colorado, swigging bourbon & howling at the moon. Perferably with someone very, very tall.
Happy New Year Everyone....

I'm going to celebrate a new beginning with some Oly practise (just did the Total a few days ago so I don't think it will have changed much).
But I just wanted to wish a Happy New Year to all of my Crossfit brothers and sisters. I hope the new year brings you peace and good health (well, Crossfit will bring you the latter).
Sam
Happy New Year all; and much gratitude to Coach and all his elves for all they do to bring us such goodies all year long.
Congrats on your run, Allison.
Spider Chick - keep holding out for the tall guy. We're worth it!
SILL laughing at Spider Chicks comments!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !
come hell or high water, this will be cert year for me...don't know where, when or how but it will happen!! I might have to get on a plane this year. I don't mind planes at all but I'm not waiting around another year for one in my area. I'm just not, it's as if my life won't be complete until I accomplish this, seriously. I'm so excited all of a sudden.
I love cf and all you great, great cfers

120# off my PR. Talk about a sucky day and performance! I think I need to focus on gaining back the strength that I've lost. I don't know where it went. I'm 10# lighter than I was when I hit my CFT PR of 1005#, but I can't see it affecting me that much.
a fit and healthy 2008
CFT: sq added 2,5 kg to 132,5 kg, deadlift 20 kg less with 150 kg, sh press the same with 70 kg, Failed with 75, barely. Next time it is there.
Have fun, Johan
I was kind of dissappointed with my last CFT. I think I'll sub something out for this one, and wait a little longer before trying again so I can gauge my results better.
Oh, Spider Chick, you know you loved taking the furs out for a spin.
Happy New Year, all!
I rarely post, but am so excited, I can hardly contain myself. Spider Chick returned to the midwest for a brief stint and was kind enough to help me with Oly lifts. We did 5 shoulder presses followed by 5 push presses & 5 jerks, cleaning all. Had to drop the shoulder press after 70#, pushpress after 75#, and tried for a jerk at 85# but couldn't clean it. Ack. But not terribly heinous. Must work on cleans or get something to hold the bar. Anyway, very excited to be starting my journey to a Total.
Thanks for a struggle-filled four months. Looking forward to the next 12!
#29 Maximus,
I know of some guys in Key West that should be having a kick ass Crossfit style workout on Friday 4 Jan (don't know if you'll want to travel that far). They'll be on Boca Chica at NAS Key West at the track by the gym @ 0600. Contact BU2(SCW) Jason Fletcher at fearlessfletch@hotmail.com . Tell him LTJG Moiles sent you! and if you go, make sure you kick their @$$es! :)
Happy New Year to all! I was introduced to CF in Aug '07 and have become obsessed every since! I can't wait to see what a whole year of CF does! I have most of the equipment needed at home (homemade plyobox, parallettes and med ball included--thanks for the tips on making those and thanks to my husband for making them for me!) I find this works well with a busy schedule and kids at home. I love the efficiency of the workouts and I can't match the intensity with anything else I've ever done. I have never worked so hard and seen such great results in such a short time period.
Thanks to Coach for your ingenious concept and thanks to the people who post for your inspirational comments and words of wisdom!
Here's to a GREAT 2008!
Umm....no, thanks. My hamstrings and lower back are screaming from 2 days ago. I'm sure last night's ales and margaritas didn't help.
Practicing some ring work today instead (dips, support, L-support)
Happy New Year, everyone!
#29 Maximus,
Screwed up Fletch's email. Drop me a line if you need to get ahold of him or the Key West Crossfit crew.

quick CF testimonial - found CF while at the barber reading an article "Cult of the Quick" or something like that. I'd always considered myself very fit - lifting, running & cycling. My first CF workout was 06/1/21 and was 5 rounds of 500m run/15 pullups/15 handstand pushups. That didn't sound too hard. It took a long time and I still remember barely being able to lift my arms to wash my hair and brush my teeth. So much for being very fit. Quit my gym because people were getting in my way and built a garage gym - platform, bar, plates, rack, rings, GHD, pullup bar, jumprope, KB, rower etc. Saved tons of time from not having to drive to the gym. My max rep pullups have gone from 18 to 34 and I know that 40+ is possible. Muscleups have gone from none to 11 in a row (new PR yesterday). Times have been cut in over half on most WODS. I've never been injured doing a CF workout (other than the aforementioned soreness which tends to recur just when I start to think I'm very fit). Many thanks to Coach, Lauren and everyone who contributes to this site. Happy New Year to all and may God bless our troops and all who keep us safe.

Is that photo of a box of bars that need good homes?
A pretty forgrettable CF total except for the deadlift PR
Squat

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!
Was sound asleep like a baby beside me bride by 9:30, feeling fresh today! We stay in on NYE, being that it is ammature night, and we are retired professionals, so we stay out of their way and let them have at it. A prayer to keep all safe, and off to sleep!
Entering the new year with some great connections! Stephen C., Spider Chick, clovis, Hub, Gnat, Colleen, bleedcf, jason, Brett, Susie, AllisonNYC, Matt, Adam W just to name a few. All of you have helped influence my life for the positive on a daily basis, and iam grateful for such a community...such a close knit family! Coach, Nicole, Annie, Eva, Greg, Rob, Brendan and the rest of the CF Generals have aided in not only my workouts, not only my physique, but more importantly my heart, mind and life, as have all of you!
Wait a sec, let me grab a tissue here, I'm leaking on the keyboard (such a sensitive wacko this CFasaurus is...)
AllisonNYC ~
Congradulations on the 4 miles grl! HELL of an accomplishment! I know that WOOHOO feeling that you were expressing, and it is irreplacable! Loved your list of todo's for 2008 too! Fantastic!
Spider Chick ~
Oh Spider Chick...that's all I can say! Sweet sweet spider! (glad things were safe last night!)
Me and another CFer were talking towards the end of the year about trying to organize a CF EAST COAST GAMES! Get as many CF east coast affiliates to participate, as well as those with garage gyms, backyard gyms, driveway gyms....hell, middle of the street gyms, and get as many onvideo as possible! Maybe even get some on webcams so that others can "tune in" to what's happening! Compile all the video's, edit and mash and make one kicka$$ video of those involved! We kicked it around a little bit and are seriously trying figure out a way to do it!
So, here is the seed...the teaser...opening the doors for all suggestions, interests, recommendations...anything anyone wants to add to this! I think that as a whole, we could figure this out and make this an awesome event! CFer's in FL, Maine, VA, DC , Mass Nh, Carolina's, EVERYWHERE all competing against themselves, and eachother, all representing their place of WODing, their state, but CF as a whole!
So, with that said, ...calling all... who wants to play?
Love you all! Happy new year!

So happy to start a new year. Hope everyone else is too.
Allison NYC huge congrats. Running is a really hard thing for a lot of people. I am always full of fear and dread before 400's. They are so hard. Now your confidence should shoot sky high!!
Helen yesterday: 11:35, but not a 100% honest effort. Pullups with elastic band assist, and 25lb instead of 35 (I gotta get me more kettlebells)
missed a bunch of wod's lately: skiing hard and crossfit squats dont mix!
resolutions: 1. pull ups by spring. 2. 50% wods as rx'd 3. eat 5 days a week paleo 4. be nicer to my hubby. in that order! thanks crossfit. i love being part of innovation and genius! not to mention all the really nice people who make me want to be better!

My guess is that today's CFT being scheduled in close proximity to last week's CFT is to imprint on upon us the benefit of Barbara and Helen.
Thanks for the help with the crssfit total explination and where to find answers. I finally found a good description by Mark Rippetoe in the Dec 06 Journal.
Oh Leslie, you're such a night owl compared to me! LOL!~ Scrabble tabata's...insane! AN IDEA FOR a NEW GAME.......SCRABBLABATA! lmfao! Good stuff!
Passed on the CFT, didn't want to go real heavy after getting 6 shots of cortizone in my right shoulder yesterday. Sore as hell today, and have a tear in the tissue connecting pectoralis major and anterior deltoid. SO, instead I:
200 m
100 ghd

200m
75 95lb push press
200m
75 135lb DL

and now I am going to go lay down in the grass outside in this beautiful 65-70 degree weather and ... wimper like a puppy! LOL! That WOD hurt a little. Time to ice and heat the injured...
Great job to everyone who woke up this morning, took a breath of life, attacked this or any other WOD, and has their sight's set at being a better person...just for today! GET SOME...then get some more!

Has anyone ever had a problem with there SI joint in their lower back? I have had a problem with mine for 6 months. I hurt it doing a 1 rep max on a deadlift and haven't been able to do one since.
I am stuck in Iraq, so resources are limited. If anyone has anyone has good stretches, exercises, etc to pass along, I would appreciate it.

Several months ago I found a chiropractor who diagnosed an si joint displacement after about an hour of examination. She did an adjustment and the muscle spasms I was having instantly went away. I was very sore for several days but my back continues to improve. A few weeks ago I got 275 for dl in the CFT. I recently did a wod which included 21-15-9-6-3 of bw deadlift (160 lbs). No problems at all except a little muscle soreness. My back had been bothering me for 6-7 years after a mishap at work. My "primary care" MD diagnosed arthritis and kept pushing prescription meds which I wouldn't take. X-rays showed "slight" arthritic changes in L4-L5 (I'm 59). I had told him the pain was not in my spine but on the left side, didn't phase him. I've always been skeptical of chiropractors but now I think there are some things that chiropractors only are qualified to diagnose. I don't know if you can find a chiropractor in Iraq but I know a displaced si can be put back in place.
I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for all who serve in Iraq and other places. You are the best that the world has to offer. Keep practicing alpha male fitness stay safe and know that the best of us here admire and appreciate your efforts and wish mightily for your safe return. Have a great 2008.

Where are you in Iraq? Many Camps have Physical Therapy now -- we have one over here in Ramadi. Get to one if you can. An hour's time can make a HUGE difference.
Also try googling SI joint stiffness -- several links come up, this one gives some stretches: http://www.pilates-back-joint-exercise.com/si-joint-exercise.html
SI joint ligamentous strain is a little unusual. How were you diagnosed with this? I've only seen two cases of this in the past 18 months. May want to have the Therapist look you over for all possibilities in the pelvic region.
Good luck, stay safe! AOD

QUESTION:
when you fail on a back squat, how do you get away from the bar? If you are stuck down in that low squat do you chuck the bar off your back behind you or duck underneath..I'm guessing behind you and try to duck waddle out of the way. Being afraid of this limited my squat big time. I am way scared to get stuck in that low squat. Any help?

Welll.. out the door for a bike ride but wanted to say,
Happy New Year, everyone. Stay safe, fit, and happy. Coach and Lauren thanks for another year of Crossfit fun. To all who post here, thanks for sharing little bits of your lives with the rest of us.
We are looking forward to meeting many of you at the Ft. Worth cert. in March.
My buddy from San Diego got me into this site/philosophy. I've been looking at the demo videos and reading what you guys have been saying, and it makes sense. I figure I'll pick the New Year to start. Happy New Year All!
Bob #101: stretch the hammies! that is the ultimate cure for my back spasms and SI pain.
Hari #129: you're an animal!
Tomorrow, doing a WOD at HEL in Portland. Not sure if I'll get a total in this week or not. Maybe Thursday or Saturday. Wow, it's already Tuesday. And I have to work tomorrow... ugh
Happy New Year all!!
I've been playing around with the jump rope lately and came up with a good double under workout yesterday:
For time, complete 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 consecutive double unders in any order.
To clarify, you would start off going for the 60 and if you trip up on say 36, that counts as your 30. Then go for the 60 again. If you get to 43, that counts as your 40, and so on until you get all of them.
I did it in 6:10 and it was absolutely brutal. I'm going to try and work up to 100.
Hope you all have a happy and healthy 2008
- Tom

I learned about Crossfit through my Strength teacher at school and have been doing the WODs for about 2 months now.
I am hooked!
I managed to receive a pull up bar and a pair of rings for Christmas. This completes my basic basement gym when it is added to my bench, barbell and dumbbells. Bumper plates, a rubberized floor and a rowing machine are my only other wants but it will all come in time ;)
Recently I managed to convert my mom and possibly dad to make their New Years Resolution to be a Crossfitter. They are going to skip the CFT today seeing as how they don't have much experience with technique but I want to teach them and have some reps being done with light weight.
Happy New Year everyone! Heres hoping it is even more rewarding then the last.

Reading through the comments today I read the one about quitting the globo gym to train at home. I have been a gym rat most of my adult life and loved training in gyms. I felt I needed the atmosphere to really push hard. Funny thing since I've found CF. I've done the same thing. Steadily building up my home gym and going into Golds only when I lack the equipment at home.
What I needed there I've found here. In spades. People moving in a committed fashion. Cameraderie, competition, shared goals. Better than anything I've seen. Sometimes I'll read through the comments slowly and laugh. Other times I skim through them checking times, but I look at them every day.
Once again, thanks Coach and thanks to all of you who make up this community. For me to write something like this is WAY out of character. It's just that important to me.

Not bad, not great. Did a lot of foam rolling and stretching afterwards and my left leg is feeling better. I'll continue with the heavy foam rolling all week.
Due to being beat from working close to a double shift last/this afternoon on three hours of sleep, I didn't feel I could focus enough to do heavy singles.
1x5 210# beltless below parallel back squats
1x5 100# beltless legs locked shoulder presses, each rep started from complete stop from upper chest
1x5 265# beltless standard deadlifts. No touch and go reps; all started from a complete stop off the floor, hands never left the bar between reps
Workout went much better than expected; squats could have been 10# heavier, presses weren't heavy enough and deadlifts felt light, fast and easy. Funny how some workouts go so well despite being tired and sore (hams and butt from the past couple WODs). Now I wish I had attempted single maxes.....

I've a question for you all. At what point do you stop adding weight to your squat? I find that I can lift significantly more weight than my "max" listed above but I sacrifice the depth of the movement. Basically, how far down do I need to squat to count the movement as a full rep?
Squat 255 pr

Made one of my goals with a 2x bw deadlift, really need to work on press.
Loving the crossfit, excited about my workouts every day, always lots to work on and new challenges to conquer.
Thanks to Coach and to all for the inspiration. A special shout out to John Wopat whose numbers kick my butt while he is 12 years my senior. Shows how much room I have for improvement. Also Allison, Spider Chick and Freddie, love your posts.

Taken from the CFT article that's linked with today's WOD:
"The hips are lowered until the top surfaces of both of the legs at the hip joint are lower than the knees,"
First time back posting in a while...might as well start today! Not my best, but something to work with.

My stinkin' gym was closed. Laughable facility. No CFT for me. However, with a cold front pushing some groundswell thru I made a Surf WOD.
3 rounds for time:
100m hard paddling on a Vasa Ergometer at #7 damper(to simulate catching large open ocean swell)
20 Strict Pull-Ups
20 Modified Burpees(Normal Burpee but instead of popping into squat pop up sideways into board stance, regular or goofy depending on you. I call them Spicolee's)
Gym was closed today.
Did a 5 mile run instead - nice leisurely jog outside.

I'll help you with your English--I just polished off my MA in English in October. Just kidding, man. You're communicating, with enthusiasm as well. Hang in there and realize we're not judging your grammar--even a stickler like me.
My deadlift seems to be the only thing that keeps improving, but I've been so focused on pull ups over the last several months that I think it's taken a toll on other areas.

First ever CFT, training with only light weights in squats (~165) and not at all with DL. Have been doing CF for about a month now and I am totally fired up to keep going with it this year. I just hope my weightlifting partner isn't too bummed that I don't care to do bicep curls and leg extensions with him anymore...

I don't know the total time, since my towel, goggles, and truck keys were boosted while I was on my run. Returning to the pool, I had to stop the clock while I surveyed the situation. Skipping through the ensuing drama, it was a good hour or so before I finished the third leg of my work-out, having since retrieved towel, goggles, and keys.
Happy New Year.

I have to say that I love when we have the same workout just a couple of days apart. It always motivates me to up my game even more than usual.
I thought it was cool to see some people post their new year's resolutions so I thought I would post a couple that relate to fitness. 1. Add 10 lbs of leans muscle 2. CFT 880 LBS. 3. Attend at least one CrossFit seminar.
Anyone working out in Chicago that is looking for a partner let me know. It's always great to have someone to give you an extra push.
Julie Parisien, I couldn't help but laugh when you put "be nicer to my husband" last on your list!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!
Wow - I can't believe how many gyms were closed - New Years is prime time for catching those resolutioners! Glad my gym was open!
#174 - Kristian V: You hit the nail on the head with the deadlifts - if you lean forward, you lose it. Think about really pulling *back* (far enough that if you weren't holding the bar, you'd fall over backwards). It almost feels as though you "fall up" with the bar.
#194 - Eric: As mentioned, you're trying to get the crease of the hips below the top of the knee (powerlifting parallel). The best thing I found is to:
- Set up a stack of 45 lb plates or something similar to a height you *think* is parallel.
- have someone familiar with PL'ing watch you and tell you how far you have to lower it ('cause you'll undoubtedly be higher than you should be)
- take plates off in subsequent sets until they give you the "ok" on the height.
- Every time you squat, stack plates to the same height, or set up a squat box to that height. Touch down (but don't sit) to the platform each and every time you're doing parallel squats. You'll know you're not sacrificing depth for weight.
Happy New Year everyone!
Gym closed today, and too tired/hungover anyway. Will do my CFT tomorrow.
Looking at some of the ladies' numbers, I'm always floored. I'm strong, but obviously not very strong. Something to work on this year.
J roCK, I'm not sure exactly what the CF games are, but we might be interested. My husband and I do CF at our local gym, and I know there are a couple of other guys who post who live in Blacksburg too. Maybe we could represent southwest Virginia!! Woohoo!

Glad you retrieved your gear, Colombiano. That would have been a terrible start to the new year.
Today is my one year anniversary with CrossFit---Thanks Coach!
My friend Mike Mc made up an WOD for me today--of course he had to do it with me :D
"Kim-Fit 2008"
21-15-9
Kettlebell Snatch, left hand (Mike-35#KB, me-26#KB)
Box Jumps (20" box)
Kettlebell Snatch, right hand
Overhead Squat (Mike-85#, me-65#)
This was the first time either of us have done kettlebell snatches, so there was some learning curve there. Mike was plagued with some light exertional headaches during the OHSs today, so he was a little slow but was able to finish.
Great workout!
Time: Mike-14:50, me-15:50
We had some friends who were interested in CrossFit come over to my garage gym. I put the four of them through a scaled version of "Fight Gone Bad" for their first WOD. Everyone did very well and really enjoyed it. Hopefully I can keep them coming back for more.
I enjoyed "Kim-Fit 2008" today - if it wasn't for the headache, it would have been even more enjoyable. I kept Kim in suspense over her Anniversary Workout until just before we started. It was fun to give her her present!
It was also fun to do the two workouts with a group of people. I'm so used to doing the majority of my workouts alone.
Thanks Coach and to all of my CrossFit Brothers and Sisters for a great year. CrossFit has changed my life (quite literally) and I'm very thankful to be a part of the community. I'm looking forward to training with you in the future!
Happy New Year!
