I have missed Cindy... but in a good way!

I love it when the workouts are posted early. I have all night to anticipate the fun for the next day. It should be interesting to see how much I've improved on Cindy from last time.
I did this one the other day at my mine camp. They've got a pathetic excuse for a gym there but thank God its got a pull up bar.

Holy incredible fight night in the UFC! Sherk is a little monster.
The fights were great live at Arco. The Sherk fight was the only one worth seeing, the rest were pretty lame. Tito had that fight, its too bad he lost a point from the ref. Evans was great at backing up.
I'm amazed at Sherk only because he got choked hard, got out of it and then proceeded to eat knees and not learn from each knee he took, and put his head right back into a choke position. He then failed miserably at taking the back and doing something with it. All of the people in the stands near me were pretty disgusted with his poor ground work in that area.

Cool, Cindy's back! I can't wait to tackle this one again, and it's great cos I can do it in my house. Last time I was only short the squats for a complete 20rds. I am confident that I can complete somewhere around 22-23 rds this time.
for mary, it says 10 alternating one legged squats. Does that mean 10 each leg every round or 5 each leg every round? or example, 10 the first round on the left, then 10 the second round on the right

My first Cindy. Bleh. I should have done better, but I'm blaming some of it on general fatigue. The pushups are what killed me, I banged out the squats and pullups. Not terrible but I was hoping for at least 15 rounds and I couldn't finish that last one out before time ran down. Only up from here.

I could not help it, as soon as I saw that Cindy was up I thought about adding a mile before and after 20 rounds. I have always done a straight Murph without breaking into sets and have been thinking about doing this since last week, so here we are.

Admittedly my pullups were weak, had to resort to jump pullups to do the last 6 rounds or so.
#31, "As Rx'd" means "as prescribed". Doing a workout as prescribed means that you did a workout exactly as written on the front page without any scaling or modifications.

I've always completed "Cindy" never "Mary". can somebody clarify the one leg squat? Do you perform 10 reps on each leg for 1 set? If so is it 10 on the right followed by 10 on the left or do you alternate 1 on left, 1 on right etc?

I've never attempted Mary, because I can't easily do a one-legged squat on my left leg (ACL reconstruction left me with nerve damage). But today I grabbed my PVC warmup pipe and used it for support. Tough workout. My goal for Cindy is still 30; my PR is 24.

I started CF in April 07 and started to doing CF correctly since May (it’s a big site, took time to read most of it :)).
This is my first post.
I am 33 178 lbs (lost 27 lbs since I started my fitness training in March 06) CF was first introduced to me from a friend in the gym when I started complaining that I hit a plateau and could not lose anymore weight once I hit 185 lbs and my increase in weight on my lifts would not go beyond their current position.
If you do the math I have lost a solid 8 lbs since CF and my idea of strength and what it is has changed dramatically. For that I say “THANK YOU CF!!”
I have one concern/question: Am I at where I am supposed to be at by this time or am I still doing things wrong? I have read the posts since I started going to this site back in April and it seems that others are further in their development then I. I work the WODS hard (puked a few times) and have seen improvements but not that great of improvements.
I do the 3 on 1 off with the WODS. My routine since May has been to start with the CF warm up, as RX’ed, then the WOD (mod’ed to my PR) and finish with a run (started with a mile then went to two). Is there anything else I should be doing or should I just have more patience?

Total - 10, +1 from the last time I did this workout. Small overall volume improvement, more significant improvement in work over time. I blew through the first five rounds (hooray for kipping), then my forearms started hollering and I had to switch to chin-up singles on the easy to reach wall-mounted bar. The last couple of sets had me helping myself up with my feet on the wall. I suspect I'm pulling too much with my arms rather than with my back.

I'm a couple-times-a-week gym guy, who does the standard isolation exercises, hates pullups, and hates to run.
A friend of mine whos in the Marines told me about Crossfit on Thursday and how its the most amazing fitness system ever. So I got home, I read the site over completly and tried out 40 air squats with perfect technique, because, seriously, how hard could they be?
Friday, I could barely walk.
Saturday went hiking for 6 miles in pain and soreness.
Today, I figured I'd officially start my WOD career, no matter how hard it hits me, Im on the wagon from here on out.

You just have to trust that the program works. If you have been out of the loop or beening doing different types of PT before ever trying crossfit, it takes awhile for your body to get aclimated to the functional fitness that Crossfit provides. It is like doing pullups your whole life and then switching to chinups without ever doing them much, it is different and doesn't feel right, but with time you get better. Don't get discouraged by some of the workout results that are posted here. These are people that are dedicated and have been at it for along time, I mean just PT freaks! I hope my 2 cents along with others encouragement helps you out, and keeps you in the program.

#51: try the Paleo Zone rigamarole, at least for a while. And make sure you are getting enough sleep.
Do the WOD, eat properly, get 8-9 hours of sleep, and do it again. The sleep and the proper nutrition could help a ton if you haven't got them straightened out yet. If you're not sleeping enough, that could be holding you back, your body may not be able to recover enough, especially 3-on, 1-off. Losing weight but not getting stronger sounds like maybe a sleep issue.
I blow off the WOD if I feel like it would lead to re-injury or unproductive overtraining. (Sometimes I will repent by doubling-up the next day, though) I'm not a monster like OPT or AFT or Kelly Moore, but I do OK, and have made a ton of progress since I started about a year ago.
Hope it helps. Losing ~30# is itself a huge task.

Welcome Dan #116 - CrossFit is the best system out there for us folk who want to be all round great athletes. Lot's of times it's gonna kick your butt and challenge you both physically and mentally. There will be days you are flying high and others will leave you somewhat discouraged. That's the beauty of life and CF. Show up everyday for the WOD and dig in. Admittedly although I have been at it for over a year I still struggle with getting comfortable with uncomfortable sometimes but am leaps and bounds better than when I started.

#51, recovery and nutrition are big components that are often missed. Get plenty of rest, eat meat,veggies,nuts and seeds and decrease the starchy carbs like grains. Proper post workout recovery/refueling is vital too. As mentioned earlier, the Paleo diet is worth looking into. A great resource is Paul Chek's book "How to eat,move and be healthy" If you have time and energy spend about 1/2hr before the workout getting warmed up and working on some skills that will benefit the workout then depending on what the workout was, spend a little time after working on some of your weak areas. As an example if the WOD is a strength only workout then I will add a short duration met-con workout after like a 500m row.

#51, hey you did one more round then I did! Hang in there. I just started crossfit last month after years of the basic chest day, leg day, back day, etc. workouts. I was bored out of my skull. I have seen more improvements with a month of cross fit then I did in the last year of traditional weight lifting. So even if your progress seems slow, the fact that your are progressing at all should be cause for celebration. Go for it!

To Comment #9; I used tie down strapps and hand grips. The grips like you use on the pull downs. They look just like the Tactical rings you can buy and they work great. They are portable and you can bring them to the gym and use them on the pull up bars.
I will have to do Cindy tomorrow. Start with a 5k run then go directly to Cindy. Can't wait.

I'm 33 as well and I can say although we're not ancient yet, the body does take more time to recover as it gets older (some are more resilient than others) and I'm sure some of the amazing "senior" atheletes we have here can speak with more authority. Just be careful to not push yourself too hard, too fast looking for changes on the scale or in strength. I started giving myself a bit of golfers/tennis elbow working MU and high-rep PU on a daily basis. My experience has taught me that CF is very unique because much of the improvements are sometimes difficult to spot in the short term. Much of the foundational improvements will be found in core strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. I think it took me 2-3 months before I really started to see differences in my WOD scores. At the 6mo mark I wrote down some goals (like max deadlift, rounds of Cindy, clean and jerk, OHS, etc.) and it has already made a difference in the way I refine my WU/WOD and helps me SEE my progress. I hope you stick it out. I look forward to seeing your scores in the future.

I feel like I have made some serious progress on my Kipping. I kind of "get it" now with the reverse C and pushing away at hte top. I'm not quite as loose as some of the others I've seen, but I was able to pop out 5 at a time much faster than ever before.
I completed this WOD as Rx'd with 11 & 2/3 rounds completed (I had just started squats when time ran out). While I did have a couple of moments with my hands on my hips huffing and puffing, none of my sets were broken.

All pull-ups kipping on rings with full extension, all press-ups chest/ chin/hips to floor, all squats from dynamax ball to full extension.
Happy with that.

Did workout yesterday (July 9th).
First, I ran 3 miles on the treadmill in 20:47.
Then, I did Cindy - but I did push-ups in sets of 20 and I carried two 25 pound dumbells during the squats (sets of 10).
After the run, I was really exhausted and winded. It is amazing how much harder some of these exercises are when you are winded.
4 sets in about 15 minutes. Afterwards, I started feeling dizzy, so I had to sit down for about 10 minutes. My left ear had popped (but not my right) during one of the sets of dips. After sitting down for ten minutes, I did one more set - so 5 sets altogether in about 25 minutes.
I feel fine today.
