Shoulder surgery today...no Crossfit for 4-5 months.

Bummer.

So everyone, don't take your health for granted, and please enjoy your workouts for me!

And suggestions for lower body-oriented xfit workouts would be greatly appreciated. i imagine i'll be doing a lot of sprinting and a lot of squats...

Comment #10 - Posted by: Jeff C. at February 9, 2007 6:56 PM

Jeff, I had shoulder surgery about a year ago, and due to the inspiration of the CFJ article "Working Wounded" I was able to recover while actually staying MORE fit than before. I included a lot of one-arm presses, ring rows, thrusters, cleans, deadlifts, one-arm sprawl burpee (without push-up), and once the pain subsided a good bit I did jumping one-arm pull-ups, box jumps, situps and yes, lots of squats. The last thing to come back up to snuff while still in the sling was the running, just because it was so darn annoying!

Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any questions, etc.!

Comment #29 - Posted by: randy at February 10, 2007 12:33 AM

Had no idea how I was going to do todays WOD, bu tI think I managed it. Pretty close anyway:
50 x 20" Box Jump (maybe only 17"-18" though)
50 x Towel Pullups (singles, almost jumping but not really)
50 x 25kg/55pnds swings (dumbell, plates on one end)
50 x sit ups (actually sat up, not crunched. Right?)
50 x 20kg/45pnds Dumbell HPC (25 each arm)
1 x 800 metre run
50 x Back Ext (I do these as unweighted good mornings)

28m 56s

It started raining during the swings, and then really picked up in the cleans. Made it feel more hardcore though, so that's good! ;-)

#21 CT-
For deployed crossfitting, pay attention to the general protocol and philosophy, and it will all come together. I live OUTSIDE the wire, and I have everything I need, thanks to begging, improvising, and the United States Postal Service. I got a few oly bars and hundreds of pounds of oly weights that were "too old" for MWR. Same thing for the squat rack and bench. A pull up bar is easy to fashion. Use sandbags because you can find them everywhere. To spice things up I ordered some rings from Tyler Hass and a travel-pack-thingy from tactical athlete. If an exercise sub is not actually listed, make one up that follows the basic movements and intensity of the Rx. i deal with a lot of funny looks and questions from Iraqi soldiers when they see me running around the perimeter with a duffel bag full of stuff...
kepp it intense, varied, and functional and you'll be good to go. I am currently taking a temporary divergence from XFit to follow Dan John's one lift a day. 6x3 squats mixed with squat jumps today, preceded by CFWUx3. i am about half-way through a three-week cycle, and I have been 3-repping weights larger than my PRs from the CFT. I use one day each week for metcon and high-rep olylifting, and at the end of next week i will get back to the WODs. The one lift a day started as a curiousty thing, but the results have been good and I will try to do it 3-4 times a year from now on.

Nice picture, reminding you that 650,000 Iraqi civilians killed, 40% children. 70% of the population without potable water, 130 hospitals destroyed by the US, leaving no medical care for wounded children. US set to resume bombing of civilian areas. The oil drilled leaves the country without accountability nor return for Iraqis. The treasury was robbed of 8 billion by the US after occupation. Halliburton defrauding and draining US treasury, involved with torture of innocents and death of US civilians by failing to provide security. We are now 8 trillion in debt, while the corporate fat cats get richer.

Check out CrossFit Journal #49 for the plyoboxes. The 5 bucks it cost for the journal will be recouped by the money you save by making them yourself. A set of plyoboxes (16"thru30") will run about $500.
Not sure what you're talking about in reference to "PVC tricep" thing. If you're talking about the rings, email me back for the recipe.

Keep in mind I'm new at this and do it all at home:
First a 3.2 mile run at easy pace.
50 "box" jumps - used 2nd step on my stair case
Was not able to do towel pull ups. Too weak.
50 15 lb. db swings
50 sit ups
50 15 lb. db hang power clean
3:15 1/2 mile run
50 back extensions from the floor

I'm wiped out. Seriously.

22:10 as follows: I used Master Paynes's rope pullup sub for the rope ascent (5 strict pulls for each ascent or 25 total) with a 1/2 " rope folded twice and draped over the pullup bar; 55 db for the kettle swing; 2 20# db's for the 40# hang db cleans. I interpreted 40# as 40# in toto and even w/ 2 20's it wasn't a lark. 800 on an indoor track, shortened by 80 yds to account for stairs up and back down to the weight room. Good WOD. Thanks, Coach! "Pick Your Poison" -- or -- "Mikeyzuma's Revenge"

At each level pick one exercise and do the number of reps required.

Buy In:
Hang on Pull-Up Bar for Max Time 1:30
Bottom of Squat Position for Max Time 1:10

For time: (start at clock time 3:30)
Sprint 200m
20 Ball Clean Thrusters
20 Clapping Push-Ups (yeah!)
Run 400m
10 Brand X Bear Complex (Clean-Thruster-Lunge-Lunge-Back Squat-Thruster) 95# - all the boys were using the 65# bars so I ended up using 38#
25 Pull-Ups & 50 Dips (35 bar dips but with good depth. This is a big improvement for me.)
Run 600M
15 Handstand Push-Ups
20 Pistols (10 each leg) (assisted by rope)
Row 600m 2:49
30 Knees-to-Elbows -OR- 75 Sit-Ups shoot I totally missed this! Skipped.
40 Kipping Pull-Ups (2 clappers but could not catch bar on the way down) Did all these pull ups on the flat bar. I am very proud of that!

Row 400m 1:44
(somewhere around here I did 20 double unders)
Cashed out here at clock time 51:13 effective time about 48 minutes.

Hang on Pull-Up Bar for Max Time :40
No rest
Bottom of Squat Position for Max Time :30

Skipped: 15 L-Sit Pull-Ups -OR- 25 Kipping Pull-Ups & 25 L-Leg Raises

30 185 lbs. Snatch Grip Deadlift (95#)
Caterpillar Walk 50m

Cash out:
Hang on Pull-Up Bar for Max Time :30
Bottom of Squat Position for Max Time :45

That was a good one. I went for as much as I could in the left column and glad I did. Thanks, Gimpy.

sit ups were anchored.
took a little longer rests between rope climbs after my lesson learned the other day.
DB hang power cleans took forever as my grip would only last for about 6 reps at a time.
Calf cramps about the 400m mark resulted in dropping speed on treadmill for a bit.
rough stuff but ya gotta love completing it!!!

as rx'd only difference was used 30 lb. db's for the cleans after 15 reps and subbed towel pull-ups for the rope climbs as rx'd.

funny story about today's workout. while my buddy Brad and I were working on the cleans on opposite ends of the gym, some mirror-men behind him commented on how poor his bicep curl form was while he was doing the cleans (he hurt his groin, so he wasn't squatting too deep.) talk about fueling your anger which would help you complete the workout faster. some people....
