Last time I did this work out twice through. I had a list in my pocket so I could remember everything. I included my name and my wife's name and cell phone in case I passed out!
this is an awesome one! Right now I am dealing with a knee problem( doc says arthritis, think I need a second opinion) Hope I can do this soon
I dont know if it's okay to post links but if it's okay check this out. Morgan Hamm competing on "The most difficult obstical corse ever." from the tv show Ninja Warrior on G4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZz_lAULPoM
#3 That looks fun! Wish I had one of those in the backyard.
Remind me, what weight (in lbs.) is 1 pood?
I don't won't to sound like a rookie, but what's a double under
This workout put my bro out of commission for two weeks. I am going to make it my bitch........
It was about 30 degrees here in Michigan today. I wish we could work out in a park.
I should move south.
One pood (http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/faq.html#General8) is 36 lbs. The FAQ is awesome for this stuff!
A double under is where you are jumping rope and the rope makes two passes for each jump. Perhaps that should be in the FAQ too? I looked, so if I missed it it's my own mistake ;)
Jesse- I thought that was code for 2-1 happy hour. ;)
The Filthy Fifies!!!!! YEEEEE HAW !!! It's even better when you'er really fifty! Everybody have a great workout!
#5
its jumping rope but the rope passes under your feet twice in one jump. check the exercise link if this is not clear
BURPIES! Been a while eh?
1 pood = 36lbs = 16kg
double unders = skip rope, each jump the rope passes under the feet twice.
Doug,
man up! If I could see you right now I'd show you your own shirt with the cat on the back!
Does anyone have a sub for the wall ball shots? I appreciate any ideas, thanks.
Back in the States. Going to have to see how the gyms here react to CrossFit. I missed this one last time due to leave so I really want to do it this time. Boy am I a glutton for punishment.
ugh.. first day of exams tomorrow, and then I have to look forward to this?
Really can't wait though :)
That's a pretty sweet ring set up...

59.46 Rx'd
After doing crossfit for almost a year this is the first time I have done the Filthy Fifty Rx'd. In several previous attempts I had always subbed this and that.
It destroyed me, it was just a matter of me wanting to finish it by the end. Was pleased that I hung in there. Pushing hard in the last 10 mins to finish under an hour was torturous (sp?)
what is a burpee?sry pretty new to crossfit
Just realised I used a 14 pound ball dammit. Other than that rx'd. Can't believe I was so close to doing it as written,I was so proud of myself thinking that I had. Oh well next time.
Okay, my first attempt at this one.
Is it okay to do this in, say, sets of 10, or do you finish one station after 50 reps, then move on to the next?
Thanks.
Scooter,
finish the 50 then move on!
Scooter,
sorry a bit trigger happy.
Rest when you can, stop when you need, but finish the 50 and then move on to the next exercise.
#23
Do all 50 reps as fast as possible safely, then move on to the next punishment.
#21
Burpee's are in the exercise list on the home page. Start by standing erect and squat to the ground, placing your hands on the ground in front of your feet and kicking your legs back to push up position. Proceed to do a complete push up then smoothly stand and jump toward the ceiling and repeat. Try not to die.
AN OPEN STATEMENT TO ALL BEGINNERS:
The crossfit community is more than willing to help you achieve your fitness goals by answering any questions you have. However, Coach has put together almost all the information you'll ever need. On the main page go to the FAQ link. There you will find answers to all your pressing Crossfit questions.
Have a great workout!!!
Oh man, the filthy fifty... Every time I do this one, it takes over and hour. Hopefully it's not raining outside tomorrow, so I can do the wall ball shots at the full height. This is a seriously diabolical workout, I can't wait! Thanks Coach!

My wife and I started working out at CrossFit Vancouver a couple of months ago and have seen great improvements, having started at a somewhat unfit level. In some demented way I look forward to attempting this one. I'm sure it will present itself sooner rather than later!

I second that motion. IMO, there should be a sticky posted at the top of the comments section stating what you did in your post.
CrossFit is unlike many, many other message boards in that flaming a newbie for asking questions that they could have easily found the answer for themselves, is very rare. It's a community of nuturing, helpful individuals that make it into what it is. However, sometimes you just have to step away from the keyboard before you type an inflamatory remark, resulting in the target being placed squarely on your back. With that being said, sometimes it would feel so good to do just that! I'm all for helping new people out, because it wasn't that long ago that I was in their shoes, but sometimes you have to help them help themselves. Kind of like the mother bird that nudges the chick out of the nest. It may hurt when they hit the ground, but they'll learn eventually!! I'm wondering how many posts we'll see today asking what a specific exercise is. Stepping away from the keyboard....

#38, bingo:
I don't think it was anyone's culpa. I only wrote in because I often see people subbing or scaling where, I've always thought, the WODs were pretty clear (again, not counting injury or lack of actual capability). In the pursuit of truth sometimes rational adults have to have rational discourse when they disagree.
Now today is a day that I get punished for being heavy - well, I also got punished during the 10k. Well, actually I get punished every WOD but you get my point.
And THAT IS the point.
This one looks rough. I hope to finish in under 35min.

Hi folks -
This is my first crossfit workout, and boy am I proud of myself,...56 minutes!!! Impressive huh? I´m over 40 so I must be excused right,...or? I had to change the WOD a bit though due to lack of required equipment,...and a urge to include the benchpress in the workout
Three rounds of 10 reps(with breaks in between rounds in order to survive), and the last round with 20 reps. Total of 50 as prescribed:
Box jump
Jumping pull-ups
Dumbell swing, 36 lbs
Walking lunges with two 36 lbs dumbells
Knees to elbow
Benchpress 180 lbs(135 lbs on the 20 rep round)
Back extension
Thrusters (barbell only 46 lbs)
Burpees
Roundkicks on a punching bag(10 kicks each the first three rounds, and 20 kicks each the last round)
Well, I tried at least.
I'm at a hotel (in beautiful San Diego - hi Kristin and Ahmik), so I had many subs. I did:
50 box jump, about 20"
50 high jumps
50 40# DB swings
walking lunge, 50 steps
50 situps
50 push press, 45# DB (actually harder than a bar, because it's hard to use both arms)
50 supermans
50 thrusters, 20# DBs
50 burpees
50 tuck jumps (kangies)
It took me 33:30
"Filthy Fifty"
This was a tough one.
Subbed 45LB Good Mornings for Back Extensions
Subbed 45LB Thrusters for Wall Ball

The knees to elbows slowed me down as did the burpees. My double-unders are getting better, though.

50 push press 45#
50 back extensions
50 wall ball shots 10# ball (the heaviest they had)
50 burpees with full push-up and jump

50 GHD sit ups (set broken only into 2)
50 push press, 45 lb (set broken)

50 wall ball shots, 25 lb homemade ball (set broken)
50 squat jumps (no pushups)
50 single unders

Last time: 42:20 (with 50 squat jumps and pushups for burpees, and 100 single unders)
As I wrote for Barbara, I did not beg, steal, borrow or cheat for my time. It is mine.
I used to dread walking lunges and today it was a break for me! During the push press my right shoulder cramped up. Wall Balls agravated it and I couldn't even do the push up portion of the burpees. Low energy today with only 2 hours of sleep last night, I probably should have scaled down but wanted to do the whole thing.

I did the light version:)

Walking Lunge
Knees to Elbows
10K bar for push press
GHD back ext
10lb wall ball
burpees with jump, no push up
double unders
23:43
Scaled to 35 reps each for a time of 29 min.
Following subs/sets:
19 inch box jump
jumping pullups (broken into 2 sets)
15kg DB swing
Lunges
KTE (broken into 5 sets - toes touching floor at each rep)
Push press - 20kg BB (2 sets)
Back extensions - on swiss ball (2 sets)
Thrusters 2x8 = 16kg DB (5 sets)
Burpee without pushup and without a lot of height but I was dizzy none the less(2 sets)
19 inch box jumps (I did not trust myself with rope or tuck jumps)
My shoulders got completely killed on the push press and thrusters so pushups on burpees were out of the equation as I could not even complete one.
Question on the KTEs : do you put your feet (or just toes) down between each rep or just hang ?

My first post here because this was such a cool workout. Been CF'ing about three weeks or so. Time was just under 52 minutes, which was okay 'cause I figured anyting under my age would be good.
The knees-to-elbows were a first for me and pretty tough. Otherwise, I way suck at jumping rope, so I was more than five minutes to get my 50 doubles. But I was 'rx' all the way, even using my new kettlebell!
Did Chelsea (5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 squats every minute ofr 30 minutes)this morning with my unit. Doing today's WOD with my work out partner this afternoon. Hope to survive. Will post time.
Had to make some substitutions, still got my butt kicked.
50 Box jumps - Substituted a chair (not very safe, but worked)
50 jumping pull-ups
50 kettlebell swings - Substituted 35lb. grip plate
Walking Lunge
17 knees to elbows - burnout
50 push-press
50 back extensions
50 wall ball shots - substituted 10lb ball

I didn't, but just wondering). Apparently I needed to make room for the rest of the burpees. Finished the WOD and then brushed my teeth
Had to modify the WOD today due to a brand-spankin' new head cold. I just trudged through the Filthy 50 in reverse until I couldn't do anymore PLUS I didn't time it. I just needed to do something...
33:47, first time doing this one.
I got to the gym only to realize that I left my cheat sheet at home w/ the exercises on it. I decided to 3x7@125 of standing press, and then do as many of the exercises that I could remember from today's WOD. As I was doing the walking lunges, a guy walked in and saw me, and asked, "Doing the Filthy Fifty?" to which I grunted a yes, adding that I didn't remember all of the exercises. Well, lucky me (unlucky?), he had them all written down, and was kind enough to share/prolong my misery.

Need help!!!!
For me, I am nicknaming this the "Femme Fatal" keeping with the tradition of the ladies names. I made it through 1/2 of this before I tossed my cookies. Question??? I attempted the knees to elbows and got a mighty 3. That's right 3. I have no strength in those muscles. How can I strengthen those muscle groups? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Transitions were horrendous but I'm not really complaining because I think I needed the rest anyway.
Biggest time consumers:
knees to elbows, burpees, and double unders
Increasing my coordination for double unders will cut tremendous time. The k2e's were hindered more by cardio than by stomach. Amazingly, my grip was feeling it in the k2e's. I usually don't have grip issues.
It's also kind of depressing that I did this in 29:56 a year and a half ago. That's what I get for getting injured.

Walking Lunge, 50 steps - got some strange looks...
50 Knees to elbows - Very weak, started to swing a bit, hurts the top of my thighs more than abs
50 Push press, 45 pounds - fun
50 Back extensions - most painful thing of all
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball - need bigger ball, and a sturdy wall

#25 & #26 i disagree with the idea that you must fully complete the prescribe reps for each exercise befor moving on to a different one. If anything breaking them up probably makes it harder (meaning higher intensity in a sense of volume over time), because you fail less therfor have less rest therfor will have complted the same volume of work over a shorter period of time.

#195 Taz:
You Are Wrong. The workout as prescribed requires completion of all reps of one exercise before moving on to the next. If you choose to do it diffrently, that's your business, but it's not the prescribed WOD.
# 214 lynee pitts
Well i put it to you that YOUR wrong. intensity is directlly related to volume and time. I dont see scheduled rest period's included....so when you go to failure and then rest befor going again, you haven't followed the prescribed WOD. Sorry to say lynee....all your workouts have been duds.
Ah Yeah...
Taz #215
1.Lynne knows what she's talking about.
2.Today's WOD as written requires the 50 reps to be completed before moving to next 50 reps.
Other WOs are written in a different way so as to cycle through reps as you suggest [eg: Cindy] but not this one.
If thats how you want to tackle it,go ahead, but as Lynne said its not how its prescribed
Hey Matthew, er, "taz" - how about you do more than 2 WODS before you appoint yourself the CrossFit expert, OK? Give the program a try for longer than 14 minutes and then get back to us.

It's funny doing wods like this at the YMCA. Lots of confused looks while rushing to the next station.
Weird work schedule this week. Will do this Wednesday.
BTW Taz #195, you can do the work-out in any manner you choose, and take from it whatever benefit you may. But the instructions on this one are very clear and have been spelled out previously: complete each 50 and then move on to the next. Agree or disagree, THAT is the WOD as RX'd. You may have set some kind of record, though, getting both Lynne and Kelly to respond negatively on the same day...
Right at 45 minutes... Considering I couldn't finish last time, I am pumped I got through it...
great workout...question though....im just starting out and if i can't get all 50 reps straight is it best to go until i burnout, stop, rest for 15 sec, then do it all over again until i hit 50 reps...thanks for the help.

I am new to crossfit, but it is my understanding that you need to do fifty reps, but how you break them up is your business. So if you do 10 reps, rest for a few seconds, do 10 more, rest, etc, then this is fine because it will reflect in your time. As your fitness improves, you will be able to do more, faster, (2 sets of 25, 1 set of 50), and your time will improve.
However, it is not ok to do 10 reps of one exercise, then 10 of another, so on.

38:35 (compare to 45 min w/ same exercises 9/10, 63 min. w/ lots of subs time before)
Double unders much improved, still not consecutive but better. Burpees horribly broken, KtoE horribly broken. All else felt good...god I love this WOD. It's a bit scary knowing what tomorrow brings though (Murph, as I'm a day late here.)
That was may first CF workout two months ago.
Now: time 23:24
modified incline knees to elbows; wall ball 12lb, burpises=push ups.
30 min.
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, (35 #)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows (BAD form very bad)
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, (10 pound ball)
50 Burpees (not push up burpees)
50 Double unders (jumped rope)
40 minutes didn't have a jumprope. Skipped the double unders. Felt nauseous after.
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 35 lbs.
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
I had to stop after back extensions...I was feeling really sick. This was the first time in 9 months of doing crossfit that this has happened. I think my body is fighting off something right now. I hope we get the "Filthy Fifty" again soon so I can kill it!!!!!
29:36 tired today... took too many PRSs:(
WOD 34:16

30 x burpees
time 38:00, ran out of time to finish
used 35lb dumb bell for kettlebell
substituted 18lb wall ball
completed 30 burpees then hurt knee(unsure how)
tried doulbe unders was unable to complete

26:25 as rx'd. Don't know if that was pukie or the bad lunch at the end... too close for comfort.
Bw: 210lbs
As Rx'ed: 27:12 The last three events took the longest.
Jen: Sub 20" Box, 14# dball @ 9 foot Wallball target: 33:09

no one named Anthony is allowed to give up!!
Taz, u are quite the mysterious tough guy...
I'll go one better.
Taz, you are a pinhead.
Shut hole and do the WOD's as rx'd for a while before talking smack. "Lynee" (known to many of us as Lynne) is a moderator - and while generally patient can ban your dopey a**.
So how about a nice slice of humble pie, eh? Maybe a la mode, too.
By the way, did this on 12/5 at Mike's Gym.
Subbed 45 lb thrusters for the wall balls after breaking off part of Caoch B's backboard - sorry Coach!!
51 and change - one of my worst ever. I don't have a good excuse handy. I was just crushed - decent time up until burpees and double unders and then just ran out of schlitz. Whoever did sub 20 mins is an animal.
Cheers (except you, Taz.)
Definitely feel like I'm coming down with something, flu or otherwise. Took yesterday off and today didn't feel better or worse, so I went for it anyway.
Subbed the following for lack of equipment, strength, or skill: 20" box, 30# DB Swings, could only get through 40 reps of KTEs, and have never done double unders so I did 100 single reps. Otherwise as Rx'd in an abyssmal 44 minutes even. UUUGGGHHH!
Belay my last. I left out the Walking Lunges! I'll pay my penance tomorrow.

26:28...HR avg 155 max 175
Only did reps of 25; stopped after 8 reps on burpees and called it a day. Antibiotics and bronchitis telling me to take it easy still.
36:04...one minute faster than last time.
Still new to CrossFit, only my 3rd WOD.
50 Min.
Subbed 1/2 pood kettlebell
8lb wallball
and subbed jump tuck for doubleunders bacause the gym doesn't have jumpropes to fit someone who's 6'5".
Met with Pukie shortly after.
Sore today, but overall very happy I completed this one!
23m
Could only just finish the knees to elbows before I was dizzy and naseaus. The 3 or so weeks healing from tendonitis sapped my strenght.
Set a new PR with this WOD, however; we modified the burpees with no pushup/jump! Also "24 inch" box was more like a 20 inch box jump!! Finished 32 seconds faster than last PR and 3 minutes faster than last time I posted for this WOD.
Time: 26:53!! PR
(MFBunch posting seperately.....I think!)

bw=205
rx'd 49:21
started wall ball @ 31:00 and fell apart
burpees were a killer, first time doing dbl unders.
43:00 without the double unders cause we couldn't get the video to play - what is it anyway? Had to take a 5 min break during the burpees to avoid barfing.
Same as before:
34:46
Go up on DB next time.
No medicine ball nor jump rope so subbed 45# BB Thruster and tuck jumps...
53:44
Those burpees suck...

All the same as my workout above except did not perform burpees and double unders due to a football coaches meeting).
36:58 as rx'd. As usual burpees annihilated me...

Did this workout 2 days later and after Murph.
For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood (subbed 35# DB)
Walking Lunge, 50 steps

50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball (subbed 45# thrusters)
50 Burpees
50 Double unders (subbed box jumps, haven't learned to jump rope)
Time: 56 Minutes, but I did it all. Time was definitely hurt by the fact that I have a nasty cold, requiring more rest that usual. Otherwise, time killers were K2Es (surprisingly because I have been practicing these) and burpees (no surprise there; pushup portion killed me). Everything broken except first set of box jumps and walking lunges.
Warmup was light back squats, 2 work sets @95#, concentrating on getting as low as I could.
I tried to warn him! Too late.
~35 minutes
No push presses do to lack of barbells.
box jumps were about 18"

Due to feeling I was about to hurl, stopped after wall ball. Next time I WILL finish this. Wall Ball I tossed 10' in the air (would have woke neighbors if I hit the wall with it).

Not the Filthy-50, though, the Filthy-35. Knocked 3 minutes off my last time. Will do 50 next time, I promise. Box jumps were on a 24" firetruck tailboard, and subbed tuck jumps for double unders (wimped out with 70 single unders last time).
