Good, no hammy-related action today. Unless you've seen my kipping...

Comment #1 - Posted by: gaucoin at November 9, 2006 7:22 PM

for the pullups, should i stay strict with form, or, once i cant do anymore stict form pulls, should i start doing kipping ones?

Comment #2 - Posted by: psychoshonen at November 9, 2006 7:37 PM

Way to go Rob! This is going to be a well used wall.

Comment #3 - Posted by: Dan S at November 9, 2006 7:38 PM

Comment #8 - Posted by: Travis L @ Prosperity at November 9, 2006 9:09 PM

does anyone know offhand by how much i should adjust the my benchpress weight if i use a machine(cybex)?

i weight 200lbs, and i know that 200lbs indicated on the cybex is quite a few pounds less than that on freeweights

thanks

Is there any way of getting a video demonstrating single leg squats? I am curious which is the best position to have your off leg in... maybe behind you... maybe in front of you? I feel like in front is harder so I do it that way but I am curious what way is "technically" correct??? Thanks

163 lbs
BP-19,16,13,11,9-68 reps...(69 before with 160 lbs so happy with that, 163 this time)
CU-36,32,28,25,22-143 reps..(PB! 138 before this)

higher bwt b/c of no hill races..good to see strength coming up in relation, just "feel" better as well

so 211 total reps divided by bwt = 1.29 for OPT scoring system

BWT 179

Five rounds for max reps of:
Body weight bench press (subbed 120#) 7-6-8-8-6
Pull-ups 11-11-12-12-13(pr).

Post reps for both exercises in all rounds.

Not close to bodyweight on BP, but I have improved in weight and reps from last time. Couldn't kip pullups until last round because I do them in bench press rack (free weights) and bar was in the way of kipping and didn't want to have to move it around. Last round of pullups was as strong as I have ever felt doing them, with lots of help from kips.

Got out the sawhorses for this one :-)

Jumprope (Catherine was using the rower), hip flexor stretch, Burgener WU, GHD situps, GHD hip extension, then...

Tim: 9/25, 9/24, 8/22, 8/22, 6/25 @ bwt 180*, ring pullups.
Catherine: 10/10, 10/10, 10/10 unloaded bar, jumping pullups.

I called my pullup sets done when my feet touched the ground. If I'd allowed myself to reset my grip, I might have kept up w/OPT :-) Also, I'm very lazy, so I used 185 for the bench -- less plates to load, just a 45# and 25# bumper on each side.

Actual bodyweight is around 179-180lbs these days. Once I get down to 176lbs, I will declare victory over my body fat %, and focus on getting stronger. But I'll still load 185 for "bwt".

BP / PU
10 / 4
8 / 2
6 / 2
6 / 1 (+ 4 on Gravitron at 75% BW)
7 / 1 (+ 4 on Gravitron at 75% BW)

Then 5.5 miles on the roads - 46 min.

All PU were parallel grip because of tendinitis and 30 - 50 extra pounds between my ribs and knees. Been CFing for about 2.5 weeks now - loving it. Definitely looking forward to Lynne again. Can't wait to see the progress - already feeling much stronger. pullups have always been my nemesis, but I'll conquer.

Thanks to all Marines (past, present, future). Happy Birthday!

Goal was 5 sets of 40 pullups and to beat my overall score from the prior Lynne (68 ring dips/166 pullups). Catherine Imes of kettlebell fame here to visit and keep count....many thanks!

Ring Dips/Kipping Pullups:
19-40

BP / PU (chins)
15 / 11
12 / 9
12 / 8
11 / 8
10 / 7

Switching from a PLifter to a OLifter has made my BP drop quite substantially. I used to do over 30 reps with 185lbs (my BW was around 220-230 though). Bench press was the main reason I dropped off powerlifting. My elbows and shoulders were speaking to me : «Pascal, stop benching ...».

I now prefer dips and tons of OHP variety.

Comment #97 - Posted by: Pascal Toussaint at November 10, 2006 12:19 PM

6/26,4/22,5(s)/17,5(s)/17,5(s)/13. The"s" denotes I used the smith machine on the last 3 rounds in the absence of a spotter so the bench press reps are probably inflated. Last time my bench was 5-4-3-3-1, but what the hey, I'll take it. Mucho improvement on the pullups, 95 vs 82 last time. BW:178, YOA:58 Thanks, Coach!

Seth #153- I will thank him, Seth! He's still in training, and this is the last bit of a long haul. Hard to stop being a momma, even when they're full grown men.

WOD-
Did a combo of Lynne and yesterday's squats.
PU (band assisted) 10/7/10/7/5
BP 15/6/3/6/5 @ 45/65/75/65/65
Back squats 5x5- 45/65/85/95/95
Better than last time, by a little. I'll take it. Bench press is very difficult for me, as are pullups.
Take care, everyone.

Could only get 3 reps in a set near body weight. Dropped 10 pounds and only got a few more per set. Obviously, Benchpress needs work.

With the exception for the elite athletes here, Is this wod design to be done with lower reps at higher weight or should I be scaling weight to get more reps? I guess I'm asking if 3 reps per set at bodyweight is going to cut it? Thanks for any reply.

Definitely didn't do as much as I thought I would be able to do. Also had to use a machine (gasp) for BP as I didn't have a spotter.

BP / pull ups
9 / 12 kipping
8 / 8 normal
7 / 8 kipping
6 / 7 normal
5 / 8 chins

For this type of workout, is it good or bad to mix up pull ups like I did? or should I have stuck with one type?

MCORRY (#169) --

My own take is that the goal is to work towards bench pressing bodyweight for reps; once you can do that, go for more reps.

Since I can't yet bench press my bodyweight, I work my way up through weights I can handle steadily for 3-5 reps. That way I'm getting a max effort workout that'll contribute to reaching the short term goal of bench pressing my bodyweight.

I do max 3-5 rep max effort bench presses every 7-10 days anyway--"Lynne" just happened to come along the day I would have done it anyway.

BW 180
Age 35

BP
6,7,5,4,4 = 26

PU
8,9(PR),7,6,6 = 36

for a total of 62. Yeesh! I read enough posts to know that I'm pretty feeble! And here I thought I was strong. CrossFit is kickin' my sorry ass. Been doing it all of three weeks now, and already my pullups are waaaaaaay stronger than before.

Very disappointed in bp figures.
Did this after 1.5 hours of rest from 5/5 squats WOD. So I dont know if I've lost strength or squat workout really could have taken that much out of me? I was hoping for atleast 8 on first BP @ bw.

Bodyweight 150lbs

Bench Press / Pull-ups
7 / 19 (dead-hang)
5 / 7 (dead-hang)
5 / 8 (dead-hang)
4 / 5 (dead-hang chin-up)
3 / 10 (kipping)

I've lost a decent amount of endurance on the dead-hangs. My kipping pulls are at an all-time high, but my strict pulls have suffered, unfortunately. Gotta work on that.

CFWU x 3 (minimal pullups and dips)

Bench 145lbs x 20,13,10,8,8
PU (underhand, full ext, no kip) x 13,11,9,6,8

rested 4 min between sets, excets after 4th set I rested 6 min.

7(ouch)/12

9/11
9/10

This time: BP/PU(58/50=108 total reps)
15/10
13/10
10/10
10/10-no spot on bench, another 1-2 reps possible
10/10

Both with 225 bench, kipped PU. Took it easy on the pullups. Paced the bench first two rounds, not to complete failure, testing a theory.
