My gym buddy and I have a great take on Linda. Rather than doing it as RX'd, which we would have no hope of doing, we scale it right back and aim to get it done in 20 minutes.

If you set the bars up at about half the required weight, you really can storm through. Both of us were spurred on by not wanting to be caught by the other.

By the end of it, we were both exhausted and exhilarated. Linda went from being a Woman To Be Feared to one of my favourite girls.

Funny reactions at the gym this morning. I was doing pushups,jmp-pu, hspu, and burgener warmup.. this guy came up to me and said "quite the workout you're doing"- I said "oh, this is just my warm up". Then I got asked by 3 different person, if i was a track athlete, a rower, a basketb player, or what sport i do... funny. Told them i did this for fun.

Continuing my commitment to only doing 50% of anything I haven't done before.

Started at 5 and worked my way down using the following weights:

260 RDL
110 Dumbbell BP (I only have 55 pounders)
135 Clean (with full squat)

bwt 173
18:15 (had to change out the weights for the clean and RDL and honestly wasn't pushing it cause this was my first time doing cleans at that weight and I didn't want to hurt myself)

I'll shave my head before this one. That way I will lower my bodyweight, thus lowering the loads, and this workout will be much easier. I will also exfoliate (as a grown man, I'd never thought I'd say that).

I have a quick question? When doing bench press should I bring the bar down to my chest or should I bring the bar down so that my arm and forearm form a 90 degree angle or just below. I can do either so its no big deal I would just rather do the workout right.

Getting stronger on BP. Was able to maintain 75# entire workout. My BIGGEST challenge is that I don't have a spotter at the gym or I probably could go heavier on the BP. BP was on other side of gym or time could have been a little better.

"g" #40- the frontal plane divides the body into front and back halves. Keeping the bar in the frontal plane when doing an overhead squat provides the most efficient distribution of weight through the body as the lift is executed. Basically the weight will stay directly above your center of gravity.

"joe r" #42- Ask yourself this question; If something fell on me(on my chest) and I had to get it off my body, where would my arms be and where would the object be? Hope that helps.

Still getting familiar/comfortable with the oly lifts, so I went a little light for my first Linda. After finishing I realized I could of gone heavier with all 3 as there was still gas in the tank. Guess I can do another workout this evening...

Mostly pleased with progress...tried to use 65# for cleans, which I've been using for multiple cleans lately, but kept failing and had to switch on the first set. That took up some time, but it's all part of the game I guess. I love this workout, but boy does it ever kill!

1st date with Linda. Can barely type this. Almost as rx'ed, but had to lop 5% off of the deadlift and bench press because I didn't have enough weights. Not to fear, I got plenty fugged up by this WOD.

I looked in the mirror once I staggered back into the house, and almost didn't recognize the guy staring back at me. Crossfit has radically changed my body composition. If I lose more weight, this WOD should get easier, right?! :-)

nb. bodyweight ~180#, DL 260, BP 165, CJ 135.

After the second round I decided that I needed to swap some of the weight from the bench press (had it at 185#) over to the deadlift (had it at 240#), which certainly didn't improve my time (neither did struggling with too much weight on the bench press). After that adjustment I was able to complete all sets as rx'ed without interruption. Next time I will shoot for 35:00 as rx'ed.

Cleans continue to smoke me, but my form is much better. I Did this 12 hours later in the day than normal. Wonder what impact that had since I am normally a morning workout person. Thanks Coach for the challenge.

Mike OD- Nice time bro.

Marc- No, but the CFWU is a good place to build up for the WODs. Helps you work on OHS form everyday and PU's as well. I use it almost every workout. Though sometmes I do mix in some rowing now and then along w/the Burgener Warm-up on lifting days. I recommend doing it in conjunction w/a scaled down version of the WOD. Remember, warm-up is to warm-up. You can also use it to work on things as well. I.E., shoulder in flexibility.

Read "Start Here" on the left hand side of the homepage for more of an idea. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have anymore Q's.

Have been doing Crossfit for one and a half weeks. Am thrilled with the workouts, the speed and movements make working out not so much a chore.....however, the immense pain, gasping shortness of breath and general inability to raise my arms or legs is a bit of a hassle. What can I say? I'm hooked.Today's workout used 115 for all being very new to exercises but felt good 26 minutes.

Rest days are about as important as breathing. Go without breathing and see how you do. They are really important. Without rest there is no recovery without recovery...injury. It's not a matter of if you get injured but when. Your rest day lets your body rebuild itself and try to keep up with what you are forcing it to do. Remember that rest days do not mean that you have to sit around and do nothing, there's active recovery; do skill work, light runs, stretching. I went for 3 1/2 months on the 3 on 1 off and finally took a 2 week break with the 1st week being very active recovery and the second week being limited to stretching. I'm back now and aside from the initial soreness of getting back into it, I can see a marked improvement. Good Luck.

ususally i really crank out these wod's but today really put the hurt on and forced me to go deep down. deadlifts and cleans are still fairly new to me, but today the deadlifts really slowed me up. it was a real mental battle and i def believe that days like today are what make crossfit so unique.

Knew I couldn't do the WOD as Rx'd. Someone earlier suggested doing 1/2 the prescribed weight. I thought that was a reasonable place to start.

whole thing only took 15:15. Realized I underestimiated what I could do. Will ramp up the weights next time...ug.

Wasn't sure if I was suppose to set the weight on the floor with each clean. Did that initially, but decided it would be more intense,if I tried to go faster and just brought the bar down to my knees.

DJ - you the man, not me...if you used my weights you probably would of finished in 5:12...the hardest part was taping all the pink dumbbells to the body bar....that kept my time up...

I posted my times with #174, and I've read alot of the comments today.

I scaled the weight % down in order to get all the reps and it seems like I posted an average time. (23:05)

My question is: With work outs like these should I stick with heavy weights with a slower time or maybe fewer reps, or did I do the right thing?

When I did my build up training for selection course I continued with my general training program on top of the build up program. I believe it gave me an edge over some of the others, as my edurance was at a higher level.

It was a good workout. I sweated the whole way through, my heart raced and I know I'm going to be sore tomorrow. I just couldn't handle more weights. I decided to lower rounds and weight in order to concentrate on speed. I'm not at CF level yet. :)

Due to a lack of equipment available for this WOD, I decided to do "Helen" for the first time.

I used a 45lb dumbbell instead of a 1pood kettlebell (55lb felt too heavy)

12:04. Not a very good time considering my age and bw (29, 167), however I'm still "just starting out."

Believe it or not it was the runs that slowed me down. The pullups were all unbroken, strict form, no kipping.

First Crossfit WOD yesterday, since I've been away from bb's for some time. I knew this one would hurt. Aimed for 70% of rx'd.

I only managed to get from 10 to 7 in about 12 minutes before exhaustion just took over and weights were getting sloppy. I could have dropped the weight, but decided to the following instead:

After nearly having calluses ripped of in DL last time, I bought some gloves. Today, as I lay on the floor after my last rep, contemplating my recovery time, I noticed that just above the second joint on my right middle finger (which is, of course, just above where the glove fingers end), I'd built up a blister...and ripped it off. Ah, adrenaline. Of course, it's hurt like a som'*()%^ since, but at least it didn't slow me.

I was pleasantly (if that's possible) surprised I got the 10 reps at 1 1/2 BW, but only got one out in the next 9. Then it was clear that if I was going to have any semblance of a workout, I'd have to drop weight.

CL: 105 lbs. (still need better flexibility in the hips and ankles)

Hard to do Crossfit with the students back in school saturating the gym.

All cleans were power cleans except for the last one...it was full squat clean. Power cleans certainly made a difference in time. Even though this was a little slower than my PR; its 4-6 minutes quicker than with full SC.

This really took a toll on my lower back. Deads followed by overhead lifting was rough.

Specialized routine today.

One round of:
--carry bag to airport shuttle
--sit and eat while waiting an hour in airport lounge
--sit eight hours on plane, two meals
--sit in taxi home
--watch television for two hours while eating

Did the Brand X Pack Reps 10-8-6-4-2. I was hoping to do the 1 1/2 DL, and body weight BP, while cutting the weight and working on form for the cleans. Well, it didn't go as planed on the DL's.
Even with all the cutting back I still took longer than I should have

a funny story....I didnt have a look at the WOD for this day, and so when I was at the gym I decided to do Linda -- (BP wasnt up to snuff because of an elbow injury, had to scale back to 155lbs (bw 165) and didnt finish 7-5 rounds completely on bp) -- anyway, otherwise as Rx'd, finished in 15:21. Lower than before but not completely done either

when you decide on a whim to do linda, you know you are crazy

Unable to use 3 bars so I used two. I think the fact that I had to change weights on the clean/deadlift bar made it that much more grueling--I just considered it part of the workout but it added some time

I increased the weight from last time to try to get closer to prescribed lbs. Also did the cleans for the first time from the floor. I was surprised that a 10lb increase on DL and BP and power cleans could add 18 minutes to my time.
