Thank god... finally a chance to redeem myself from the last 10K.
Well at least I only have to get through a 5k by its self this time.Feet don't fail me now!!!
YES! I wanted to run tommorow cause I missed the 10k. I think I'll make it a 10k...possibly in boots!
Well, my crappy feet killed my 5K run from the other day (No way I can to 10K) after 1 mile. So, perhaps I'll do my homebrewed KB workout....
Isn't Camp Slayer the one next to Camp Motorhead?
Nice pic. Stay safe guys.
-D.
After the 10K this is going to be nothing!!
Was anyone else alittle slow today? I think there was some risidual "Linda" hanging around for the 5k, my time was a dismal 25:52. Oh well I guess you can't win them all. Have a good day.
What's the deal out there in Santa Cruz? It's bad enough that we have to fear for our safety in Iraq, BUT THE USA?!?!?!
Come ON! If those protestors were doing CrossFit they wouldn't have enough time or energy for violent protest!!! CrossFit can change the world, one WOD at a time! :)

Cordially,

No Dan. It's by Camp Sepultura.
Hoo-Ya to those who serve. LEO, Fire&Rescue, Military! And those who support them.
nice and cruisy 5k.
21.18
29:59 on treadmill 2% incline
Did Linda at a lower weight than Rx'd. Yet, I finished it in 45 minutes.
Will try to work the run in sometime today.
5k in 23:02. 1:50 better than last one, but I was still slower than I'm capable. That 10k and Linda had my legs sore from the start.
Rest day tomorrow. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. Tasty.
ran 20 min hard on treadmill @ 9.5 miles/hour @ level 2 incline
I cant believe that I got beat to the Slayer reference, although I should have known Dan would be awake and jump on that. Speaking of Sepultura, the singer is an old friend of mine, need to get him into CrossFit.
Was out sick the last couple of days. Ran 5 miles this morning.
Perfect morning for a run - cool and clear. First couple minutes were the warmup, steadily increase speed from there. 20:48 total

Question. Are you suppose to do abs with every WOD? I haven't seen abs in the WOD. Would you do a CF Warm Up with the 5K?
19:08.24
A bit slow this AM. Pool later.
23:54
Quite a bit slower than the last one but then again it wasn't preceded by "Linda". My back tightened up several times requiring me to stop and stretch. The tight back is due from inflexibility and not from the WODs.
WOD @ 271.5 BWT
I subbed a 5 K time trial run for Grace a couple of days ago so I rowed a 5K today in 19:43, 14 seconds better than the last time I rowed a 5K and my AHR was lower. I converted my old MB to a single speeder and road it to the club for a warm up. All I did was remove the rear derailer(sp?) and shorten the chain.
21:04
Nice, smooth run. Did a few pull-ups and cleans for form maintenance, as well.
I'm always trying to guess what tomorrow's WOD will be when I retire for the night. I'm almost always wrong and sometimes not even close. CF, like life, is unpredictable. You gotta be ready for anything; no easy grooves here!
22 min.
Feet and calves hurt after 15k in last 3 days. Thank you Linda for breaking up the runs.
19:31....either I've improved A LOT or I messed up my 5K course...I think I missed a turn.
forgot to start my watch at the beginning so i hit it at my approximate half way for a time of 10:30 for 2.5K
JM # 25 - ABS are always in the CFWU and there are occasions when we are required to do knees to elbows which is a ab blaster as are the L sits and L pull-ups. You get a lot of core training though due to the fact that most of our exercises are ground based and you are balancing a bar on your shoulders or doing a full body movement like a clean or snatch. These activities activate the abs mush better than any standard crunch or sit-up ever would.
Rowed 10k for Tuesday 39:40
22:08 Not as good as last time that is for sure:)
22:15, and that's a PR for me. Did the run on the dreadmill, so mabye time isn't totally accurate, depending on who you ask.
Ran a 5k race @ Thanksgiving, time was 24 and change. Over 2 full mins off my time.
Thanks CF!
25:50....45 secs faster than in Feb.....
19:34
Sure felt my hamstrings this morning.
Happy Easter.
row 5k= 22.45.00
100 abmat situps 2.33.19
100 squats 3.42.70
total=6.15.89
My legs are still shot from that 10K (mine was 5K). I did not have tiome to yesterdays work out. So, I will do that today.
3 mile training run ~28 mins
Followed by:
3 sets
10 reps BP at 65, 85, 95lbs.
10 reps dumbells curls ~20lbs
20 reps sit ups.
Go get 'em crossfitters!
Lets say 30 minutes. Forgot to time it until started to run. Legs . . . pain . . . need help
3 rounds/15 reps of the Crossfit warm-up. I held the Samson stretch for 30 seconds each side, each time. The sit-ups were anchored, 70 lbs. on the Chin Assist and 50-60 lbs. on the Dip Assist.
I ran 5K on the treadmill in 24:50. Since I did Tuesday's WOD yesterday, I opted not to run it at my race pace...more like a semi-tempo run. After the run, I did 30 minutes on the upright Precor bike at a light intensity to cool down.

3.2 mile road course on stupid hills near my house, had to chase off a dog with my ASP...
time=32.45.76
I look forward to the day that I overcome my psychological and physical aversion to running. Didn't even consider trying the 10K the other day. Plodded thru today's 5K but finally had a morning with no rain, so had a beautiful sunrise jog along the shoreline. Plantar fasciatis is now rearing its ugly head!

#49 Sharon.
Feet hurt in the morning on first step out of bed, or after run? How old are your running sneaks? You should try getting a shoe that is right for your foot/arch/walking/running style. Check roadrunner.com and use shoe dog to help find choices for you. I have found that getting a new shoe really helps with foot/shin problems.
Geoff
59 degrees, sunny & windy here in Denver.
37:44
What can I say? All Hills.
Cindy, 10k, Linda,5k, Jim slow today. 23:04. My out time in the 10k was 23:20. I feel pathetic.
Well, I guess my runs will improve. 12 years ago I was doing 6:00 miles for 5k's, now I can't even get a descent stride.
CFWU 2 of 3.
Legs tired from Linda and short run yesterday.
Outdoors, all up and down hills.
22:51
HR at the finish ~186
#50 Geoff,
Feet (foot) hurt after run today but not when I got out of bed this morning. Although I've had enough episodes of PF (including the classic pain on awakening) to recognize the symptoms. Since I'm not a hard core runner and when I do run I tend to overwhelmingly be on a treadmill, I hadn't considered investing in a specialized running shoe. Generally I do my (non-tennis) workouts, including treadmill runs, in a good cross training shoe, but wear specialized shoes for tennis as I play competitively. I'll definitely go to a specialty store and look into something that will be more suitable for running. Thanks for the feedback!!!
Oy! The agony of de feet! And the calves! And the lower back! And the....
27:46. Absolutely pathetic.
I NEED HELP.......A friend of my Dad has type II diabetes, severe kidney problems, and is, as would be expected, about 60 lbs. overweight.....He came to me looking for nutritional advice.....Any advice will definitely help.
God Bless,
Tommy
Took me 19:22 to run 1.5 miles. Had to stop at that point. I think this could be an area to improve upon.
21:48 (PR by 10 secs.)
brilliant programming
The WOD feature of crossfit is just great, keeps me on my toes and saves my mental energy for the books/classwork. Cause of my knees I did the 5k on a track and field "soft" track: ~17:45. Need to work on my handstands.
#57 Tommy,
Search the message board, Nutrition Heading, I remember reading about a couple people that went on the Zone and that helped with Type II. I am trying Zone since Feb. 1, with the Paleo Foods: Lean Meats, Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, and some nuts, exclude dairy, Legumes, Grains, add fish oils, I feel great and recovery time for muscles is down after hard workouts.
Second day with program. 52 years old, 5'9" 150lbs. Low back still sore from Tuesday. Haven't run a 5K since I tore my ACL 7 years ago...28:28. I'm happy.
I don't run distances so I will politely walk away from this one....WALK away....
my body surely didn't want to run today, but I did, much slower than I usually do, but I did run the 5k.

26:15 Slower than last time. I blame myself.
Hello Rest Day!
Tommy#57,
I agree that the Zone, paleo approach would work well for the type2. Word of caution, the kidney problem could add another whole aspect to the thing, requiring a renal/diabetic diet, depending upon how bad the kidney test numbers are. Might be good to encourage him to speak to a dietician, with blood test results in hand.
Good luck.
37 minutes and proud of it.
BW:235 and this is the first distance run of mine in about 3 months.
5K 26:30
This is only my 2nd time ever running this distance.
I reserve running for when I'm being chased
I'm running 2 days behind right now on the routine. That is, I started Satuday's Nancy on Monday, thus I'm doing Tuesday's 10k tonight. My pecs are just about to burst out of my chest right now from Cindy, and I'm due for 3 bars of death tomorrow. I really don't see completing the BP portion of the circuit.
Can I substitute HSPU's instead?
Did 5k in 36:01 glad this wasn't a race I would have got my butt beat!!I am running on a sore hip but at least I'm still running,D.J. got some asprin to go with the "kool aid" today?

35:07 on treadmill, 1% incline
23:00 flat on a treadmill. Oh and Dan and DJ, don't forget camp ministry. We could keep this going all day
rowed the 10K this week, so I actually ran the 5K (measured with that gmap pedometer posted the other day... neat!)
5K run= 24:19 (finished 2.5K in 12:00)
route was a there and back, finishing with a 3/4 mile hill.
I haven't run a 5K since 5/12/2005 (22:45) and don't run for the WODs, I always do a C2 row substitution, so pretty happy with the time today...
#78, you could say Camp Pantera too...
5k plus
38:15
Wasn't sure of the distance so I decided to play it safe and do more than less.
The muscles in the front on my shins were cramping again today and caused to to stop for numerous stretch and walk breaks. Hopefully it is just my legs readjusting to the demands of running after being C2 bound over the winter.
3rd crossfit day for me. Yikes! 30min.
Very sore-calves,glutes.
Lugged the 4 yr. old up and down neighborhood streets in jogger stroller.
I'm putting all the blame on my kid!(jk)
I plan on seeing large gains quickly with times like that.

Took it easy.

31:54 for a 15k bike. My back was a bit dodgy after getting dumped on by Linda yesterday, so I clambered aboard my hybrid and cranked it out. It's a glorious spring day here in NJ. My best wishes to everyone in the CF community for a wonderful Passover and Easter.
Wow..... 5k is a lot tougher carrying Linda along for the ride
24:50 worse than last time. Felt harder than the 10k

Legs were stuffed and I have big blisters on the soles of both feet, but I put some Satriani into the iPod and shoved my bum onto the treadmill.
This ain't gonna hurt! (Everything else did ;) )

Everything hurt today, but the run felt good.
Starting to feel it in my knee after running on the street the last 3 days.
Would anyone that's been doing CF for a while please read #75 and respond.
Thanks.
#97 TBird,
Better to go to the forum and post the question. You will get a better response there.
ChrisM,
Thanks! Now to figure what this "forum" is.
Linda, scaled to experience and ability. BW 155
DL 95
Bench 115
Clean 65
25:53
All weights up from first attempt, time 5 minutes faster.
Short term goal now Linda BW DL and Bench, 75% Clean.

24:58 PR!
Surprised I could run at all considering how tight Linda left me.
21:55 on treadmill, 2% incline.
Had to split my 5k b/c I was late for an hour-long yoga class. The last half of the run was hilarious because after yoga your body feels like a wet noodle. You really should try it some time! haha
Row'd 4,000 meters and Road the bike for 10.5 miles
can't run on my legs due to calf injury.. So I just put the ear-pods on and went with it... Back and ass are sore as hell..Love that Crossfit
Been doing WOD for two weeks now. 47 yo, 178lbs. Used to be a mediocre age group runner, but these days my 25:54 was my 5K.
did Linda today
13:39 as rx'd
however when it says clean I do not do squat cleans (i.e. I clean from the floor to my shoulders, back to the floor)
lost a few days since doing the 3 in one day, that set me back
TBird,
Here is a link to the forum:

only problem is that it might take a few hours to get your account approved before you can ask your question.
If I were you, I would take a rest day with everyone else tomorrow and get on the same schedule as the rest of us on Saturday's WOD.
Ben: 2 laps (+ a little) at Wash Park
Lap 1: 18:55
Lap 2: 20:00
About 3 miles a piece.
Matt: Sports Conditioning Class
Group Moffett
Ran 11 laps around a baseball field. However, I pulled up hurt after the first lap, it felt as if I tore something in my right calf. It hurts to straighten my foot, walk on it and my calf is really tight.

33 minutes
27 y/o BW: 170 5k: 23:15
Time may have been faster if Linda wasn't still hanging on my back and if I didn't have soccer practice this morning.
Tbird (#75): Of course you can make that sub (HSPUs for BP in Linda). Most folks (including me) would consider that a step up in difficulty . . . sounds pretty studly to me.
I'd consider doing the rest-day strategy, as another commenter suggested.
Ran half, did the "crossfit warmup", then ran the second half. Didn't time. Oops!
29:14
Run 5 K
Ran outside. Did 10 minute run, one minute walk interval for 2 intervals and had to walk a little bit again around the 26th minute going uphill.
17:54
Hilly measured course with a decent amount of wind.
5 Year PR
I PR'd yesterday on Linda and now today on a 5K.
They work pretty much the same thing so I guess that makes sense.
On top of the run did the following,
row 200m
back extension 15
sit up 20
bench ball 20
did 5 rounds.
Didn't time as took a session off from the watch.
Did Linda today...I'll be able to cath up on the rest day.
Really struggled with linda today. Only two bars, so I lost time changing weight. My legs were somewhat shot from the 10k...I felt like quitting several times but gutted it out.
BW = 220.

No run for me today. Still nursing a foot injury.

Did the run 10 min., walk 1 min. thing that Kegger suggested the other day. I like it. Gives me something to look forward to. Definitely remembered Linda much of the time. (Second workout was to help the delivery guys deliver our Gravitron. Should help a ton on the pullup workouts. Lucky us! Broke us, too, but all for a good cause, eh?)
Tauria: walked 3.5 miles at various times today. Needed a break.
Peace and rest, all.

CrossFit San Diego
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
20 Push-Ups
7 Clean and Jerks (Squat Clean)
5 rounds, 3 push-ups @ 135 lbs
Followed up with some tumbling work and L-sits
Warmed up with 30 min of striking work, and 95lb sand bag throws over shoulder (alternating)
Did a Rutman mile instead of run,
Sandbag weight 95lbs
My Bodyweight 190lbs
1 mile
Time: 14:50
finished with some suitcase carries and waiter walks.
Felt good to do a Rut mile again. Got to get up to bodyweight this year.
4.2k jog in 30 minutes. I was fooled. My pedometer, being set at my usual 3.5'stride, guaged the run at 5k. G-maps shows 4.2k, or 2.9'per step - the result of extreme soreness from the previous two WODs.
Laurie:
5k in 36 minutes.
Tim #120
So what are you saying? Those who serve don't deserve our support? It's all hype and the PR machine? Cops don't really face danger regularly? Who do you call when you need help? You're welcome to ride with me any night and see if a little first hand experience doesn't open your eyes, and make you decide to head home early.
23:37 slower by about a minute from last 5K on 2/28/06.
Did the Turkey trot 5K back in Nov.'05 21:45..
I need to get back into running 30 minutes along with WOD at least three times per week.
Team Tikrit
Joey D: Headed out of the gates on the same pace I ran this weeks 10K. At 2.5K, my split was 11:43 but brought it home much slower. My legs are definitely getting stronger, however, after this weeks worth of WODs muscle fatigue played a big factor in today's WOD. I cut the 5K short by about 200-300 meters.
Time: 23:54
Legs and back still cramping....
A horrible 26:25. Ran my first mile in 7:14 then the blisters that I recieved from the 10K tore so I sorta jogged(waddled the rest of it).
the other part of team tikrit:
mfbunch: 24:09 as rx'd, started off at a pretty good clip, then energy just started draining away like i had a slow leak in an air hose somewhere; not bad though, considering this is 2nd run since january (1st was two days ago) due to plantar fasciitis
2 miles w/ the puppy in 16:24

First time outside this year. Not sure what to blame for the slow time (it is not possible that I am just slow, is it?). 10K and Linda? My wind was fine, by legs felt like lead.
27:29 on treadmill.
BW = 145
Treadmill: 22:29 with 1% incline.
That's sort of a PR for me. Best ever 5K is 22:09, but that was with 0% incline.
25:13 treadmill with 2 incline
24:40, nice day for a run
Did 50 min spinning class instead of 5k.
Comment#86 Randy G. Nice workout. I'm having flashbacks!
A dismal performance: 27:00
Calves were wound tighter than rubber bands and my ankles were really sore. Both from the 10K. Also, I didn't do Linda the other day. I'll have to stretch more next time.
I was still feeling sick, but needed to do something, so I just went on a brisk walk for 20 mintues through the neighborhood. Still not feeling 100%...

With so much pro-police sentiment flooding the nation lately, I knew that throwing cold water on the positive mood woould not be greeted favorably by most. But the fact is, there are any number of problems with the resurrection of the "heroic cop" image in the public imagination.
First, if we define heroism by the extent to which one puts his life on the line in the course of his work -- and apparently that's the operative definition nowadays -- then there is nothing all that heroic about policing. According to the Department of Labor, the on-the-job fatality rate for police is lower than that for gardeners, electricians, truck drivers, garbage collectors, construction workers, airline pilots, timber cutters, and commercial fisherman. In fact, fishermen have an occupational fatality rate that is fifteen times higher than that for cops, but rarely do we hear those who provide us with an endless supply of mahi-mahi described as heroes.
An average of 66 police officers per year were killed feloniously during the 1990s, with the number falling to only 42 in 1999. As Marie De Santis, Director of the Women's Justice Center explains, the flawed presentation of cops as embattled heroes is not only inaccurate, but also dangerous: "By cultivating a hyper-inflated myth of heroes sacrificing their lives for you, police have created a shield of public veneration to defend against criticism of any misdeed. Who then can blame police for building arsenals against the citizens, for firing at first blink, for medieval codes of silence?"
De Santis further notes that the notion of police as constantly endangered has other deleterious effects. It reinforces macho attitudes and behavior on the force, thereby limiting the presence of women in policing. And studies have determined that the male dominance of policing limits the effectiveness of law enforcement in dealing with domestic violence and general violence against women, which accounts for roughly a third of all police calls.
Secondly, there is nothing inherently noble about police work. After all, would most Americans think highly of law enforcement officers in North Korea? Or Iraq? Of course not. What makes policing noble is always and only the validity of the system for which officers are working. And while I am hardly analogizing the U.S. justice system to that of North Korea, Iraq, or any other authoritarian nation, the point is still valid. If the system is rife with inequality and injustice, then those whose job it is to uphold that system are part of the problem, just as much as they may be part of the "solution" to something like crime. By presenting police officers as inherently special and vital bulwarks against chaos, pro-cop ideologues paper over ongoing injustices in the system, making it more difficult to see and ultimately fix those problems.

People have different definitions of what a hero is and being in law enforcement is not yours. Okay, we get it your not a fan. I'm a cop and yes not everything i do is heroic or for that matter corrupt like you say. did you happen to write the articles you referenced in both of your comments? Were you wronged by a policeman in some way and now you feel you must write articles degrading police officers? If so get over it.
I would agree that not everybody in law enforcement deserves to be there. there will always be the bad apple(s). but i think that holds true in every profession. even in the journalistic world.
i serve people on a daily basis and sometimes do things that other people may consider heroic and other people consider what is expected me. again its all on how you look at it and what your definition is. some people see the Minister Louis Farakahn or Malcom X as racist and other peple see them as heros. Agian, it's all about perception.
Try not paint the law enforcment field with such a broad brush. It just makes you sound stupid.

Jeff W#189 From the article (degrading article???) written by Tim Wise, not me.
"Despite the public's enhanced veneration of police in the wake of 9/11, the evidence indicates that there is plenty reason to withhold effusive praise and commendation.
Policing is still not carried out in a fair and equitable manner. There are still far too many innocent and/or unarmed people being killed in questionable circumstances by law enforcement officers, and the culture of policing is still one that lends itself to a militaristic, good guy/bad guy mentality that almost inherently perpetuates not only brutality and misconduct, but also the wall of silence that protects both.
Police don't deserve hero treatment based on the risks they take, which aren't nearly as severe as they might like us to think. Rather, they will be deserving of such support only when they root out profiling, testosterone-soaked machismo, and the God complexes which allow so many of them to conclude that they are the law, instead of public servants and employees, whose employers are, ultimately, the very citizens they seek to control."

Tim,
Yes, I felt Tim Wise's (not you) articles were "degrading". My perception of what he wrote about law enforcment in America is that we are racist, thugs prone to misconduct. Not true. Not everyone is going to be a fan. Especially people that are prone to breaking the laws or their family members who benifit from the criminals deeds(money).
You can look at every facet of society and career field and see nuckelheads that will give it a bad rep. Everything in life is not going to carried out in a fair or equal manner. That's just life.
Police officers are often involved in tense evolving situations that require a decision to made with limited facts. Will mistakes be made? Yes and there are going to be the monday morning quarterback that will have a better way to solve the problem only after all the facts are known and they can sift through them in a controlled enviroment. Thats the nature of the beast.
I have read the two articles you keep referencing so you don't need to keep writing them over in you posts so I like them better. That's your perception of things.
If you feel so strongly about police corruption I'm sure you could go through the police academy, become a police officer and try to be a positive role model for the rest of us. Keep us posted on how that works out.

Ah yes,the ole 'why don't you join the force and try to change it from the inside out' argument. This is like suggesting that instead of invading Iraq, the U.S. should have tried to get one man inside Saddam's government and "try to be a positive role model for the rest of them." I think we know how that would have worked out.
We need civilian oversight practitioners and supporters working to promote fair, firm and consistent law enforcement in the United States through the practice of civilian oversight. If not,the problems will continue to increase.

Tim,
Ah, the old I could not really handle the job of a police officer or I have been arrested and now have an agenda so I want to be on a civilian oversight board argument. Good one. If you got all of the concerned people togther who support the web sites you reference it would not be just one. That's like not voting and saying my one vote is really not going to count. I'm sure you could lead by example.
Ran it about 30 minutes. 1st time newbie!
Jeff W >> the old I could not really handle the job of a police officer or I have been arrested and now have an agenda<<
Spoken like a true 'us against them' mentality having officer, you actually believe that this is what most or all people on civilian oversight boards are there for, because they have been arrested or can't handle being a policeman? Let me educate you a bit, civilian oversight is based on the belief that law enforcement derives its authority from the community, and requires a two-way dialog between the community and those charged with the duty to enforce laws.
From the
National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement site:
"NACOLE recognizes that the majority of law enforcement officers strive, often under dangerous and demanding circumstances, to carry out their duties in a restrained, lawful and professional manner. Despite this, the United States has a growing crisis of police misconduct. Citizens want to feel secure that police officers are in the community to serve and protect all citizens of that community. We believe that citizens have a right to assurance that adequate mechanisms are available to review and investigate questionable or unacceptable actions of law enforcement officers."
tim,
I've been "educated" and growing tired of the the banter. see you at the next police oversight meeting.

In closing, the man who insists that justice can only be maintained by the rule of law is the same one who appears on the witness stand at the war crime tribunal swearing that he was only following orders.
