I was wanting to do deadlifts anyway! Good timing!
I aggravated again a groin muscle and squats, deadlifts, etc. are out. Any recommendation what I can do in its place?
excelent. I've been wanting to do these.
Coach and CrossFit Web Manager(s),
Wanted to let you know the Navy has blocked this website from access from the Navy Marine Corp Information system. Essential us crossfitters assigned to Naval Posts here in Hawai'i (may effect those on the mainland as well) cannot access the website from work.
The Navy claims that your internet protocol address has been reported probing and/or attempting illicit access to Navy computer systems. The Navy Points of Contact (POCs) for this action are:
POC/PATRICIA WALKER/CIV/NCDOC/LOC:NORFOLK, VA/TEL:757-417-7138/EMAIL:PWALKER(AT)NCDOC.NAVY.MIL,PWALKER(AT)NCDOC.NAVY.SMIL.MIL//
POC/LARCI ROBERTSON/CTR2/NCDOC/LOC:NORFOLK, VA/TEL:(757) 417-7138/EMAIL:LROBERTSON(AT)NCDOC.NAVY.MIL//
Please have your IT people look into this so we can again have access to the site from work.
Thanks, Buzz
Would that explain the sore feeling I get in the morning...that I have been probed by crossfit computers while I am sleeping??
Where can i get a rope like THAT!?
This is Michael and i was wondering, i just joined the Navy and i saw that there was a thing about the Navy so i guessed that there were a lot of people in the service doing these crazy workouts, and i was think is this a good warm up for Basic Training?
Thanks, Recruit Michael Culver

315x1 Beltless standard style PR - I owned this lift tonight!
Worked out at the facility across the street from the PD; it's crowded, hot, humid, the bars have virtually no knurling and chalk isn't allowed. Don't know why, but I had a lot of pull and the groove was right on the money despite my now constant lack of sleep. I had another 10-20# tonight but I nearly lost the 315 due to slick hands. I would have needed chalk to attempt 325.
Mike OD: do you still love Crossfit in the morning?
The "rope" is called a Fast Rope. They are used for F/S if your in the SOF world. If not start checking at DRMO's at a military bases, we turn them in all the time as they wear out. They come in 10M, 20M and 30M
Can someone please describe the "broomstick mile" advertised on the CF Weekend Warriors website?
Thanks!
Dave- Nice pic bro. A bench mark workout for the home gym.
Oh yeah!
Deadlifts!!!
I won't be too happy in too days though...
and i thought it was just the aliens doing the probing

holy smokes, I've met pukey, before (somethin' like 500m row, 50 sit ups 3rnds) but not like yesterday, I frigin' projectile vomitted all over the gym floor on my way to the bathroom, i wasn't trying to go for distance, it just happend. Fran: 4:10 my pr, i was stoked.
Thank-u all for great advice on how to keep CFing in iraq, you all rock.
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we should be doing sumo or standard deadlifts or does it even matter.
Either way is fine Anthony. Though I do recall Coach preferring standard deads b/c they have greater carryover to other athletic endeavors.
CFw/u
Had to work it up slowly, hurt myself with deads last time out.
205x3,225x2, rest of sets with 245.
Have a great day, everyone.

Thanks Neal, That was what I did and I used the deduction that most of our lifts are designed to make sections of the Oly lifts stronger.
Cheers!

"Fran" from last night 3:30. as I was walking in the gym my brother-in-law was walking out boasting about his 3:21 time. No excuses but I had to go do my thrusters in the fitness room, and then run to an open pull-up bar...
I'll do the deadlift workout after work. adios.
Kris

Much appreciated.

Buzzard, see if you can access some of the affiliate sites. Some of those keep a WOD up everyday just like crossfit. One affiliate I know that does this is www.crossfitnc.com hope this helps, and I hope by the time I'm done with Navy bootcamp this problem is solved.

2) I LOVE heavy deadlifting :)

Went conservative. First heavy DL since I tweaked my back.
Alan (#2, #33):
Handstand pushups should get your heart rate up. Also, try multiple pushup variations. If you can find a situp position that doesn't aggravate the groin pull, do some tabatas. Pullups certainly shouldn't hurt--if they do, minimize your kip.
These aren't perfect subs for squats and deads--they're not subs for squats and deads at all--but they should keep you busy while you heal. Hope this helps.
Best,
Jon

Several posts concern sumo deadlift v. standard deadlift. If you are trying to improve your C2 rowing capactiy, the standard deadlift (with the parallel thighs) replicates the "catch" portion of the rowing stroke.
I've heard of walking around with a spare tire to lose but I think those guys are taking it too literally.

Awesome lift!!! For those of you who don't know, Kelly weighs in at about 118# if memory serves correctly!
Paulw,
That's a helluva lift as well; 40 pounds off 3x bodyweight. Folks, that's some lofty lifting for athletes on a GPP program.

Flying, oh, every other day, mid 70s to mid 80s, beach or hammock on the off days - after the workout of course. Can't complain about AF-funded spring break, I mean deployment...
Ran 2 miles
Hustled carrying two sandbags, one each hand about 100 yds then ran back x 4
then shouldered (more like back squat rack) log/pole (about 20 ft, 135#s) and made the trek then ran back x 2
trying to co-locate sandbags and logs with pullup bars so when gym isn't open, or even when it is, we can rock out on some non-standard/practicle intense work.

Buzz:
Thanks for pursuing the loss of access to CrossFit.com from the Navy Marine Corp Information system and for listing POCs. I spoke with the POC and was informed that the Navy is blocking a large range of IP addresses from our hosting service provider. CrossFit.com runs a tight ship and we have absolutely no reason to believe that any of our IP addresses have been used to probe Navy systems. This is collateral damage for activities elsewhere on the same network that the Navy doesn't like. It's unclear whether the network security folks are willing to selectively restore access to CrossFit.com. That's something they will only discuss with their users and not with us. Wouldn't hurt for you to file a request to have IP address 70.84.68.70 unblocked. That address is exclusive to www.crossfit.com

CFWU x 3 (I've started doing something new on these that I learned from Steve Cotter at a KB conference. Do anchored situps--on an incline bench or have someone hold your feet on the floor--holding a KB or DB at full extention. ie at the bottom of the situp your arm is like at full extension on a bench press and at the top it's like full extension on a push press. I change arms halfway through each set and play with the weight such that I'm doing sets of 5 or 10.)

Challenge #2
Sub 1:26 500m row
Got 1:28.7 which is slower than my last effort (1:28). That would be cool except I had it until the last 25m where I let it coast and almost reached down to unstrap at the end. Bu$%er!! Tried again 3 min later but couldn't get speed to sub 1:30 at all.
Then did CFC#5
Run 1 mile and bench body weight 21 reps all within 10 minutes. Last effort was 8:04, got 7:53 this time. Nowhere near the time in the trophy case - 5:42 is just incredible!!

I hurt my back in January doing heavy-for me- dl's and my left side is still slightly stiff when I put my knee to my chest. It's amazing how much concern about injury will force one to pay strict attention to form. I finished up with some L holds, knees to elbows, and farmers walks., wanting to keep some gas in the tank for the third day of the troika.
I ran a mile with jump soles in weights class after doing the wod ing the morning and my legs are killin me. Everyone should try that!!!!

Got a problem doing squats and thrusters. When I lower in the legs, my upper buddy goes to much forward making it very hard for me to hold the bar(thrusters)/destroys balance(squats).
Anybody know how to overcome this problem? I know I can put something under my heels to elevate them, but I would like to do the exercises in pure form.
Thanks!

That was all the weight I have…I need to buy more bumpers...I could have done another 10-25 pounds, I think....esp. after looking at the weights, and saying "I'll put these on the rack so I can take the weights off more easily", so I picked up the 155lbs and walked it over to the low rung of the squat stand. :)

I have not received my elite rings, which I ordered in January. I received this response to my 3/2/06 e-mail:
Chris,
The Elite Rings are still in production, but very close to being complete. We ran into a few delays and I have had to hire a new company to complete the production of the rings. I don’t have a firm ETA right now, as they are still running tests, but I should know more soon. We will likely start shipping next week. Hopefully it will be in the 2-3 week range for getting all of the pre-orders shipped out.

Mike T (#143) - Post-40? Absolutely. Just mind what you eat, and lift, run, whatever, like a madman, at least 4 days a week.
Condition - strength - progress.
Oh, we might not massify like before, but aren't we stronger than before?
More important than progress though, I've learned, is sustainability.
And stay off machines (all of them). And don't sit down in the gym.
Just some thoughts from a Crossfit inspired 40.
No DL's today. =( Knee is feeling better though.

Workout cut one rep/set short by gym attendant warning me not to drop the weight. I told him I didn't drop it, I "set it down" and 400+ is gonna make some noise, regardless. No bumpers, obviously. I wanted to tell the guy that the gym didn't pay $900 for Ivanko Oly bars for people to curl with. Got my PR, was gonna drop down anyway for the last set. Was debating going back and making up the OHS ME WOD from a few days ago, but given the propensity for heavy OHS weight to fall from precipitous heights very loudly, I rowed and biked and will come back later.

Something must be working right with this Crossfit thing. After 6 weeks of the WOD, I have gotten a PR in deadlift. Have trained off and on with weights before, up to 6 months or so in a dedicated stint.
I think I'm starting to taste the Kool Aid. . .

No chalk - grip slippage was a hindrance on the poor quality bar at the "fitness center."
Will try to do later today - may be too late to post today so look under tomorrow.
