So...

Has Crossfit entered the "mainstream" now?

Comment #1 - Posted by: dustin at October 11, 2005 7:24 PM

Which reminds me - I promised to pass on CF's web address to the coach of the Thai university rugby team we played against here in Laos the other day and haven't yet. I suppose that's the sort of word of mouth they're talking about. If more people learn about it and start actually doing the WOD's - that's a good thing isn't it?

Nice video, ive had my rings for months but havent found the time to find clearence higher than putting them on a door frame pullup bar...i need to stop limiting myself, cant wait =]

Wow... should we have a rhabdo warning across the top of the site? Wouldn't it be great if somebody animated pukie to spill his guts across the screen everytime a new visitor came to the site? I don't know what else to comment on. In fact, I don't usually comment... just bored today :)

Regarding the question of which links can you trust? Men's Journal has discovered what I did by accident a year ago. If it works, I trust it. CrossFit works. Period. I wonder about it ever being truly "mainstream" - most fitness enthusiasts aren't willing to work that hard - they want the results without the hard work, dedication, discipline, and commitment.

Its no surprise CrossFit.com made the list - the surprise to me is that it's not #1!

Comment #7 - Posted by: andy Petranek at October 11, 2005 8:03 PM

This Saturday in D.C.: Georgetown vs. American in rugby. Crossfitters on both sides. It's a historic day. Maybe we really are becoming mainstream.

Comment #8 - Posted by: russ greene at October 11, 2005 8:11 PM

CrossFit rocks. Workouts of choice by those brave men and women fighting overseas, and they are literally working out to survive. What other explanation is needed? :)

Comment #9 - Posted by: TimR at October 11, 2005 8:48 PM

So CF is #4. Not bad.
The "cult-like" where the Kool-Aid is purple. Just like our faces after FGB.
Welcome all newbs from Men's Fitness. Stick around and see what all the fuss is about.

Don't worry, some of us are actually fat, old guys who drink way too much and smoke cigars when we play poker.

and others are Dan Silver. Hey Dan.

Comment #10 - Posted by: Ron N. at October 11, 2005 8:53 PM

Sorry, should have read "cult-like site" where the Kool-Aid is purple.

Damn my falling asleep during typing class.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Ron N. at October 11, 2005 8:54 PM

OK, last edit:
Men's Journal not Men's Fitness.

Is there a difference?

I'll just get my coat.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Ron N. at October 11, 2005 8:56 PM

Hey! Crossfit gets some props and deservedly so. I guess I'm in two cults now, this one and "The Cult of The Big Lebowski". That's right, I'm spiritual.

Crossfit "mainstream"? Increasingly recongnized sure but not in a sense of people doing CF instead of their 3 x 10 sets of bicep curls and jogging. The masses won't put down the t.v. remote and burgers either. Was that cynical or realistic?

Comment #13 - Posted by: Rob M. at October 11, 2005 9:05 PM

Nice video. I've encouraged my gym at the Y to put up rings. I also offered to buy them if they would put them up. But today, I found out that the higher ups in the YMCA have declared rings verboten due to insurance problems. Unless a particular Y has a gymnastics program, they're not allowed to have rings. I don't get it. Has anyone run into this, and found a convincing argument that made them switch their position? Suggestions?

Did my first FGB today. Excellent WOD! 310, but cheated with untimed breaks. Can't wait till it comes around again.

Thanks CrossFit!

Comment #16 - Posted by: BrianO at October 11, 2005 9:48 PM

I didn't really read it as "number 4". I read it as the place on the web to get the most "Kick ass Workout" Extra credit....F'N A RIGHT!!!

Comment #18 - Posted by: Ryan at October 11, 2005 11:52 PM

First of all, congrats to CrossFit for some overdue recognition. Everyone here should be proud of making our community such a unique and supportive environment. It's one of the important pillars of CrossFit's success.

As far as I can tell, CrossFit is absolutely mainstream -- it's in the mainstream of people who know and care about true fitness. People whose lives and livelihood depend on their fitness. People who want to get the most out of their bodies.

CrossFit is crushing all the competition. Other workouts just make me laugh. Thanks Coach and Lauren. It hurts so good.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Mike N at October 12, 2005 1:33 AM

Nice to see Men's Journal post up my 2 favorite physical culture sites- this one and T-Nation. Yes, MJ could have done worse- like Body*****ing.com and maybe muscleand***ness.com taking those spots we, CF, and T-Nation hold. But the important part to me is that my dad has a complimentary subscription to MJ and I've told him countless times to give CrossFit a go. Maybe now he may consider it since it's given kudos in something he enjoys reading.

I don't quite agree that CrossFit is that mainstream. One obvious reason is that there is no "guru" here at CrossFit. Another is that without a guru, CrossFit won't be in any infomercial nor that a user can't do CrossFit by following a set collection of DVDs sold over the internet, tv, or radio with each workout having a rating of beginner, intermediate, or expert. I think the biggest reason for me feeling that CrossFit isn't that mainstream is that it's too hard while changing the poopular way of fitness thinking (like actually reliving history and saying the earth is round).

In the spirit of CrossFit and optimism- people will come around. If not doing CrossFit workouts fully, at least adopting the truths and/or concepts we've encountered here.

Going to float an idea that may be somewhat unpopular:

Given this recent media attention (which will likely draw in a lot of weirdos), and given the amount of lunacy that's been flung around the WOD comment posts recently (ie True MMA yesterday), should we make the WOD comments password-protected? I think the answer is a hesitant yes. Interested to hear people's thoughts.

There is nothing better than CF. I have introduced a lot of people to it. The ones who stick with it usually 'get it' right away. As my friend Jamie W. says, it's just better technology. I just want to make sure that those people who are dedicated do not get drowned out by clowns.

Oh, and FGB beat me like a rented mule.

Comment #24 - Posted by: TK at October 12, 2005 4:24 AM

I am new to CrossFit, but I have researched a lot about health and fitness, and I have tried integrate everything I have learned into a serious total fitness program. Fortunately, I saw a rave review of CrossFit on Craigslist.org, and found that CrossFit included everything I had learned about fitness plus a whole lot more AND there was a great online and real-world community supporting these ideas.

It might seem too hard at first, but looking over the site will quickly show anyone how to scale the workouts to their level of fitness. Furthermore, from looking at the message boards it seems that there are folks at all levels of fitness willing to help out newbies. Isn't there even something like a "Grandma's" workout?

I think CrossFit will become increasingly popular if for no other reason than people are utterly bored with the same old bodybuilding isolation exercises. Plus, CrossFit gives you a lot of bang for the buck in terms of the time it takes. This is one thing that really attracted me. I am busy working and studying so I don't have time to sit around and waste half my workout doing isolation movements.

All in all, I think CrossFit's time has come. I know that I am goind to do everything I can to popularize with my friends and family. Hope everyone else has done or will do the same.

Comment #26 - Posted by: mark at October 12, 2005 5:25 AM

TK, I'd prefer not. As long as we don't rise to the flamebait and continue to lead by example, any newbies bringing their attitude baggage left over from the rest of the net will come around. And if not, coach or assigned deputy can just moderate them into the dev/null void.

Comment #27 - Posted by: MikeY at October 12, 2005 5:40 AM

Did my first three rounds with Mary today.

5 HSPU (forehead to floor)
One-legged squats 5l,5r (using upright for balance)
15 pull-ups (full extension to collar bone to bar, no kip)

as modded 10:16

Happy with this as it is the first time I have done more than a couple of one legged squats. Bar is essential at the moment but will try weaning myself off it, maybe using a dumbbell to counter balance.

6 * 500 on the C2 tonight.

Cheers, kempie

Comment #29 - Posted by: John Velandra at October 12, 2005 6:06 AM

In response to Tariq's post -

When I read the news about crossfit in Men's Journal (yes, I admit, I bought it - have to fill in the time between Crossfit journals - and now that I've subscribed [finally], the "Performance Menu") I had a sinking feeling... now it will take me ten minutes to find my my name when I search for baseline info in previous posts. After all, around 80 people were posting when I started a little over a year ago; now there are around 200 posts a day.

Then I thought - how many people have I tried to start on crossfit and how many of them actually stick with it... probably 1 in 10, if that (and that includes rugby players, who self-select for suffering).

I believe that while there might be an influx in the short-term, and crossfit will get converts, the site will likely remain a refuge for those serious about their fitness after the hub-bub has subsided. So while I think Tariq has valid concerns about "invasion of the flamers/oddballs", unless it turns into a pervasive problem, I'm not certain that having password protection is warrented just yet.

But it is certainly something to consider.

Hello,

Yes, I'm a newbie directed from the Men's Journal article. I've always had a tough time with consistent workouts over the winter, and it looks like this site will really help to keep things fresh. Like a lot of people say, I thought I was in decent shape, but I can't keep up! Typical weight lifting completely ignores stamina, and I definitely know that now! After the last two workouts (my first two), I'm completely ready for that rest day. I'm really enjoying the challenge, and I'm looking forward to catching up.

Words of a two-week old Newbie:

Of course Crossfit is a bit a cult, but in a good sense. Notice, I said "a bit."

And, yes, the crossfit outlook will go more mainstream...but in a modified form that will be palatable for the masses. I would imagine that there are already some yoga (bodyweight) classes out there that are playing around with some rock-bottom squats and dumbell thrusters as well as throwing, say, jump rope work and box jumping into the mix.

Push, pull, heart rate in the anaerobic zone...keep it moving. I mean, this stuff isn't exactly rocket science.

I'm enjoying Crossfit because it suggests that I do certain exercises that push me out of my self-imposed comfort zone...and it's FREE. That's right, if you're a reasonably athletic human being, Crossfit is like having a FREE personal trainer.

Sign me up!!!

People,

I dropped the word "of" in the first sentence of my last post, it should read:

Of course Crossfit is a bit of a cult, but in a good sense.

I should also add that I truly appreciate the intelligent and thoughtful postings on the Crossfit site. As for "cult," Greg Glassmann ("Coach") should be commended on the great job that he does in not letting Crossfit become a pure cult of personality.

Movements are cool, personality worship is dangerous.

Password protected? I see your point, but part of what I like about this site is its accessibility by all. The work outs are there for the taking, if you're up for it.

People like the hidden MMA guy and others who post while hiding their identity are called out pretty quickly and they deservedly get slam dunked with their feet still in their mouths. That entertainment value is not bad either. That calling out makes denouncers put up or shut up, while the crossfit results speak for themselves.

Putting up walls from outsiders is really not in the crossfit vein, IMHO. Making the daily work outs and numbers/results available to all, while listening to counter arguements is welcomed here. This site holds up against naysayers. If the new blood and their ideas are wrong, they are pointed in the right direction, and bam, we have another person doing the right thing. Isn't that part of what the Coach and this site is all about?

Comment #42 - Posted by: pwoodruff at October 12, 2005 8:45 AM

I have always wanted to be a part of some crazy exercise cult... and here I never knew that I was.

For those of you who are bored on a rest day try this.

Palms facing away, shoulder width pullups. At the top of the pullup, let go with one hand and slap about 8 inches above where your grip was, then switch. Try about 10 on each side.

All kinds of fun.

In order for CrossFit to be a really cool cult, we need to have a secret handshake and a decoder ring.

Yesterday, when I was doing FGB at the gym of the upper-crust college where I work, I started to attract a small crowd of the "isolation without breaking a sweat" kids, transplendent as they were in their Abercrombie and Finch, who were amazed with this 46-year old geezer (6'0", 205 lbs, 32" waist w/six pack, 16% BFI, FGB score 308) in a ratty, soaked Grateful Dead tee shirt busting this totally sick effort in 17 minutes. When I finished, they asked me what up? Being a teacher, I naturally turned it into a teaching moment, and hopefully we'll have a few more converts to our cult. Unless, of course, I scared the sh*t out of 'em!

Viva CrossFit!

p.s. I use a handle to post, but since so do crazy flamers like "True MMA", in the spirit of full disclosure my real name is Mike Mueller, and I live in Pennsy.

Hey everyone - another newbie. WODs are killing me, but I love it. The short time required is a great bonus - I'm a surgery resident and free time is at a premium, but that excuse is gone now. Also, I've got to say that I'm extremely impressed by everyone's attitude, and the real sense of comraderie. Thanks.

I'm taking tomorrow as my rest day due to early meetings. I missed JT on Sunday due to my trip home from Vegas, so I did that today.

21-15-9
Push press: 1st 12 with 40#, remainder with 30#
Assisted dips
Push ups: 1st 4 were standard, remainder on knees.

I finished with 2 400m sprints.

I continue to be happy with CF and the results. I have gone down another size in clothing. I am wearing the size I wore 8 years ago and I am getting lots of great compliments at work. I appreciate reading more and more posts from women. You all continue to motivate me each day.

Congrats to crossfit for the well-deserved national recognition.

... for me personally, it just makes me regret the political bent all the more. This is the last time I'll complain about. It's coach's site and he can run it as he wishes. but I think he's making a mitake and should start another site for his politics, with links on crossfit leading people to it who wish.

Did anyone else take the time to read the so-called "Reports from a democratic Iraq: http://www.chrenkoff.blogspot.com/"? from saturday October 8th?

First, let me say that I - like virtually every America regardless of political affilliation - would love to see Iraq become more democratic. The debate is about how to achieve that goal, and how to best spend our own efforts and resources in a world full of troubles.

With that out of the way, there are a number of ironies in the blog:

1) the blogger is apparently in Australia, not Iraq.
2) although the blogger says the 'mainstream media' do not have the 'courage, imagination and foresight to provide [a] forum for the good news' about Iraq, about half the links in this blog are to newspapers like the Washington Post, The LA Times," "The International Herald Tribune," "The Times" of London, "The Kansas City Star," "The Manchester Guardian," the Associated Press, as well as various Australian Papers, local TV American news stations and newspapers, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, etc. ... but I've noticed this phenomenon before: the mainstream media actually does the hard work of going out to report reality while the bloggers and Fox News sit back and spin it.
3) the second most common source of stories is press releases put out by CENTCOM, USAID, etc. ... in other words, the Bush administration. All press releases are presented by the blogger without comment or analysis.
4) many of the "success" stories" are stories of projects, not successes: Plans to install water systems, plans to build schools, a kid getting a much-needed operation. These are all encouraging, and I applaud the brave soldiers who put their lives on the line to help Iraqis. But as a nation, we have to ask the hard questions that Chrenkoff ignores: are more people getting water than before the war? Does giving out a contract for building a new communication system really constitute a success story? Does it make Iraq more democratic?

It's as if I tried to post on the crossfit trophies page, "Rocky announces a new plan to be able to do join the muscle-up club." Coach would rightly applaud my effort and then put my plan in the comments page. It's not a success until I succeed.

The same, unfortunately, goes for Iraq.

I would like to repeat my earlier request: take the politics off crossfit. If we're going to be cultlike, let's be a cult of fitness, not one of right wing politics.

I actually like the fact that crossfit.com displays some political slants. It certainly leans to the right, what with the military and police officer presence. And, frankly, that was a turn-off for me at first.

But, I think that there's also a left-leaning presence on the site...especially in the fact that a number of the photos on the main page involve scenes of outdoor-sports enthusiasts such as climbers and skiers. I may be naive, but I would think that most outdoor-sports enthusiasts lean to the left in their politics. Many are quite extreme left.

That is: Both and neither sides of the political spectrum are shown on crossfit.com.

Look, if Mr. Glassman wants to have a little fun stirring up things political, that seems fair to me. I should add that I'm a magazine editor by trade and I can't stand it when readers try to tell me what to run in my "liberal media" outlet.

There are many different kinds of warriors...er, I mean athletes!

Comment #62 - Posted by: Matthew Morse at October 12, 2005 10:59 AM

Hey rocky-
I agree with all of your points concerning that article. However, this post was in the past, and I have let it go.
Assuming Coach's "black box" (try it all, keep the good, throw out the bad) approach to fitness, I will assume that he is taking a similar approach to "community building" and website content. I am saving my next batch of "Leftie" rhetoric in case Coach posts a link on a rest day that I feel is worthy of "Leftie" response (I am hoping this will not happen). My hope is that most of the rest day links will be like today's, a link the unifies and strengthens the community as a whole, and does not divide us by calling out the differences of opinion concerning our current political climate.
Congrats Coach and Lauren on the success of "word of mouth" advertising based on solid verifiable results!

Comment #63 - Posted by: justin at October 12, 2005 11:08 AM

While I do agree that Crossfit is an awesome workout, website and community, I don't think it will ever be "main stream". Too many people want to do things the easy way. Instead of watching what they eat, they take that leptoprin or whatever it's called to get rid of the bad cholesterol. Instead of NOT eating food that is bad for their stomach, they take that Pepcid AC so they can eat what ever they want.

People want the magic pill and to not have to work for something.

I personally think that Crossfit IS the magic pill. It just takes A LOT of work to get that pill down and if you're not careful, you may just puke it back up.

Oh, does anyone else have trouble with the videos? I'm on a MAC, OS 10.2.8 and I can never see them with my Windows Media Player.

One more thing, I've delt with pain in my right hip all last spring and summer from running. 1 month on Crossfit and the pain is gone. Thanks Crossfit!

The mainstreaming of CF...

If this means that more people will expose themselves to the principles of CF, I'm all for it. The more options (in terms of quality & quantity) people have, the more intelligent choices people will (hopefully) make. Even if people take one or two components of CF (i.e. olympic lifting, high intensity training, etc.), the CF community should be more than satisfied (as it's hard enough for most people to do CF consistently). The worst thing would be for people to just do CF because other experts say it's better than other fitness programs, it's in some magazine, fighters/soldiers do it, it makes you feel cool/exclusive/hard-core/no one does it at my gym, etc. etc. I think Crossfitters who advocate these mindsets are no different than fitness "experts" saying, "The single best fitness program is/All you need to do is [Yoga, Zumba, Tae bo, Tai Chi, Belly Dancing, etc...the list is too long...]. One of the best things about CF is that it encourages intelligence/self-analysis and, I believe and hope, discourages blind devotion. Yes, there are planned WODs. Yes, there are core CF principles and exercises. However, within these parameters, there seems to be more than enough room for individualization (you see it every day in the WOD forum). I hope the consensus of the CF community is that the individual CFer is encouraged to adapt, substitute, improve, and ultimately figure out the most effective CF system to suit his/her own goals and lifestyle (which may, ridiculously enough, include Zumba).

CFWU x 2
Missed WOD 051007, so did 100 pull ups in 23:41, last 30 with Graviton assist at 180#, getting better but still a ways to go. Finished with 30 minutes/10 mi. on stationary bike.

Comment #71 - Posted by: McMule at October 12, 2005 12:37 PM

The principle of intensely combining a wide range of compound weightlifting movements, anaerobic "cardio" work and bodyweight exercises will be mainstreamed.

This is common sense.

Hi all,
Weights today because I'll be hiking this weekend.
{Press 1/2 bdw. (40 kilos), power snatch 1/2 bdw. (40 kilos), and squat bdw. (80 kilos)}21,15,9 (presses were interrupted on first two sets). Duration 11:18.

Jeff,
You're wrong about the picture. That's coach experimenting on one of his elite athletes.

Mainstream cf? Not in lil 'ol town, MN. People at the gym look at me like I'm crazy and I even heard one, "She's leaving already, she just got here?" comment as I was stumbling towards the door to collapse in my car. I'm not a soldier or a fighter or a police gal, just a very out of shape, o.weight mom whose lucky enough to have a cousin in Seattle who got me started and keeps me going. After five weeks, a "friend" was kind enough to tell me she just doesn't think I'm losing weight with this new program. HA Never mind how strong I'm getting and proud I am of myself, I've never worked so hard! I shouted for joy the first time I did a good c&j lift. The workouts are getting harder every day, proof of my getting stronger and working harder. Sorry, don't mean to brag and if you saw me you know I'm not, just proud to be a member of this cult:) Thanks Paul! Thanks to all the hardbodies out there who post that they are just as tired as I feel when the wod is done!

i think i need to clarify...im going to the ND/USC experience...1) flight into chitown...check. 2) drive to south bend...check. 3) early morning tailgating...big time check. 4) actual seat at the game...no check. but the ridiculous price of a ticket probably wouldnt be a wise investment (see 3).

also, heres a great quote from Ray Lewis..."i dont think youre willing to give up what im willing to give up to win."

It CAN be Fun AND Fun

Awesome WOD created for 2 hoops loving clients of mine:

30 minutes of:
10 Clean Squat Presses (@min of 60% bodyweight)
10 runs up/down Bcourt shooting no closer than foul line
*(did court runs first)

the deal? You got out of 1 rep for every shot you made on the subsequent C&J set.
NO walking at any time..no resting between sets.

The focus on the shots was intense!!
Average shots made:5 or so
FUN

It's something like this:

A lightweight Crossfit approach to fitness will become mainstreamed for adult women through yoga studios and classes. A more serious Crossfit approach to training will also be broadcast to teenage boys and girls via progressive sports coaches at the high school level.

The single greatest obstacle is that there is a serious shortage of qualified teachers of the Olympic lifts in this country.

The adults on the weightlifting machines at the neighborhood gym will not be effected by any of this. They are fine doing their thing.

Comment #83 - Posted by: Matthew Morse at October 12, 2005 2:27 PM

super stoakt, crossfit should be #1 I refer everyone who wants to be truly fit to crossfit.

I don't have a set of rings yet but when I get some I want to try that.

And I love to see the keiki doing what I assume is a deadlift.

John V.--

I was at CF North Carolina today and they're working hard on getting it ready. They are still painting and have yet to get equipment in. Keep an eye on the Running a Crossfit Facility thread on the Message Board. Jason posts updates periodically. He wanted everyone to know the place actually exists!

Comment #88 - Posted by: dusty at October 12, 2005 3:51 PM

Dusty, thanks for the advice. i do pop by that board every so often, but haven't done so recently. i'll make sure to do that tonight. Thanks again.

Did Monday's WOD today. First time doing a WOD in the morning, really tough to get pumped after just rolling out of bed! With STRICT form, I got 6 rounds out in about 18 minutes. I made sure the L-pullups were "L's" and not "C's" or sideways V's. Can't wait to see how I feel for tommorrow's!

Comment #92 - Posted by: TimR at October 12, 2005 5:19 PM

Matthew Morse,

Having spent three grueling days at Sports Specific Training, Rocklin, California, there already is a serious (very, very serious) Crossfit type of training for high school athletes. The classes my son, Alex, and I attended were populated with awesome high school athletes and coached by Steve Kenyon and Dan Bunz. I gained so much from those three days, and was awed by the teenagers and their dedication to fitness. Check their link to the right under affiliates and the comments on just last Tuesday's WOD.

I'm not a "Crossfit Goddess," and probably would not do a "women's" yoga version. But, every workout, I give it my best. I'm so much stronger and considerably better at the recreation I love so much (hiking, alpine & nordic skiing, gymnastics, etc.). My husband is a great performer and our son is awesome! Thanks, Coach, Lauren, Eva T., and every body else!

Whoah, reading through the comments I missed out on the flame wars, trolls, etc. Been away from CrossFit for a while sick, work, life...

For the past 3 months been doing the "Beginner's Workout" as seen in a back issue journal which is like OLAD and I added "The Running Man" (400m varied rounds)everyday. Just wrapped up BW and got back into WODs. I missed some interesting reading.

I dunno about one member but...Kalani Ng frmo Kaneohe?

Another good showing from the team, Did Hilary today, we are trying to do 5 days on 2 days off. Will start keeping track of personal scores on Mon. Really curious what our stats will be after a couple of months of CF.

Rich and Steve kicked ass today, especially on the 400m sprint.

I ran like a new born calf.

Mike, George and Glen great effort!!!!

I know that this is a late post and may fall on deaf ears but I feel I need to respond to the suggestion of password protecting the Posts.
I've been doing the WOD now for 3 months. My buddy Greg, a Navy Seal, told me that after doing the WOD for 6 months it was the best shape he had ever been in. I was shocked I figured he would allready be in peak shape since he was a SEAL.
Anyway, I took his advise and felt and looked better in three months than I ever did just lifting weights.
At the begining my posts were LAME. It was hard to have an accurate post when I had to cheat on EVERYTHING. But now that I am getting better form and can do full extension pull-ups I feel like I contribute to the CF community.
Passwords might weed through a few of the boneheads and D-bags out there but remember CF has a learning curve. I wouldn't want to have been booted for a dumb comment because now I've found a better way of life.
Thanks CF
Matt Hayman
P.S. I'm in a little town in NE and everyone looks at me and my family like were are crazy when we're doing CF. I LOVE IT!

Comment #101 - Posted by: Hayman at October 13, 2005 7:28 AM

Marianne--

That's what I'm talkin' about. There will be a greater and greater flowering of the "Crossfit" principles both at a lighter-weight level in yoga studios and at a more serious level in the public high schools.

The fly in the ointment is that to approach this stuff at the more intense levels requires the knowledge and teaching of Olympic weightlifting.

California always seems to be the "bellwether" state when it comes to physical culture!
