Had to try to think of something to say for first post - how deep do you try to go on one-leg squats? If you can't get to thigh parallel to ground can you hold something for balance?

Comment #1 - Posted by: John B at September 27, 2005 6:24 PM

Congrats Mike on CF Oakland - as luck would have it I'll be back in the bay area Oct. 10th so if you are open for business you can bet I'll be there every night.

Comment #2 - Posted by: James Falkner at September 27, 2005 6:40 PM

Are the squats in Cindy bodyweight or what? (New to CF)
Thanks

Comment #3 - Posted by: Marc J at September 27, 2005 6:45 PM

John B, hold your.. doorjam?
Marc J, yes.
Have fun!

Comment #4 - Posted by: bebeck at September 27, 2005 6:54 PM

P.S. But the goal is to work with your balance.

Comment #5 - Posted by: bebeck at September 27, 2005 6:56 PM

Ah, perfect! I've always done Cindy, but I think I am finally going to be able to ask Mary out! (Okay, that sounds a little dirty ;) )

Comment #6 - Posted by: Tim at September 27, 2005 7:27 PM

Crossfit Oakland ?!?!?!? now here is a place where working out with your body armor should be mandatory ...

Comment #7 - Posted by: C-bas at September 27, 2005 8:26 PM

Bebeck -

Thanks for this. I made myself laugh by thinking "Cindy" looked easy (always a wrong conclusion I've found with CF) so wanted to have a go at Mary. I'll see if I can get to parallel anyway on the squats. Can't say I expect it to be fun! (Or to run out of fingers and toes counting the sets completed.)

Comment #8 - Posted by: John B at September 27, 2005 8:27 PM

Congrats Mike, I'll be there for the Grand Opening!

Comment #10 - Posted by: RossB at September 27, 2005 10:03 PM

Why is it that there are CF gyms in all the places I've lived (L.A., Oakland, Seattle, and Huntington Beach), but not the place I live now (Minneapolis)? Any other Twin Cities residents interested in going in on a space? Seriously, let me know.

Comment #11 - Posted by: John Elstad at September 27, 2005 10:44 PM

If I had a dollar for every time I drove by that corner in an ambulance, I'd be a rich man.

Oh wait, I did and I'm not.

New to CF but if a Minneapolis space pops up I would be interested. Are there any groups meeting to train now?

Comment #14 - Posted by: Marc J at September 28, 2005 12:43 AM

15 rounds, same as last time.

How many rounds should you be able to get before you switch over to Mary? 20? 25?

Comment #15 - Posted by: NickT at September 28, 2005 12:44 AM

Cindy: PR. 19 rounds even.

Comment #16 - Posted by: mw at September 28, 2005 1:29 AM

Last date with Cindy got 21 full rounds + 5 pull ups.

After the seminar decided to really focus on form this time out, so squats were not counted if i rounded my back or didn't go rock bottom. Pull ups had to be from dead hang with no kipping and pressups had to be down until my chest hit the floor up to full extension...

This meant my score this time out was only 16 full rounds.......ouchy.

Comment #17 - Posted by: karl at September 28, 2005 3:27 AM

I suppose I should make the leap to Mary, but Cindy is good for my ego. JeffT, did the 20lb vest make Cindy substantially harder? I would think so. Where did you get your vest?

14 rnds + 5 Pull-ups + 9 Push-ups

short from last time by 1 Push-up and 10 Squats, but I don't feel too bad about it since I did today's WOD after an hour of martial arts practice.

Double WOD day! Catching up by doing yesterday's WOD later this afternoon.

Comment #46 - Posted by: EMelton at September 28, 2005 7:45 AM

Cindy, 9 rounds; a round or two better than I expected. More breath-limited than muscle-limited, squats especially strong.

Comment #47 - Posted by: ALF at September 28, 2005 7:46 AM

This was my first WOD, nice to start with something simple. The workout definitely kicked my butt! I managed 11 rounds, but I could only do 5 pullups for the first 2 or 3 rounds, and by round 9 I was maxing out at 8 pushups. On the squats, should you be going deeper than thighs parallel to the ground?

Can't wait to see what the WOD is tomorrow!

Comment #48 - Posted by: Alex T at September 28, 2005 7:55 AM

I chose Cindy:
14 rounds +5 pulls, and 8 push ups.

PR by 2 rounds:) Yea!

10 rounds of Cindy . . . slow and steady.

All squats done as OHS with first 35, then 45-pound bar.

Shoulder still weird . . . it's a long way to recover.

Mary - 9 rounds + 2 HSPU. New PR for Mary.

HSPUs done full range off 12" stools, head to floor each rep. New PR with the first five sets all consecutives. Breaks on the remaining rounds. Full range pistols done 5R/5L; right easy as usual, left difficult as usual. No breaking on any set of kipping pullups.

This WOD becomes something of a grinder with those full range handstand pushups!

great job Josh Everett!

Comment #55 - Posted by: Brent C at September 28, 2005 8:28 AM

Just wanted to know who was giving Dan dollars for riding in an ambulance?

Karl,
Good point on form. Funny how our scores go down if we're really conscientious of our form and honest in our efforts. Me, I'm just fat and lazy; that explains my scores.

Read the article by Alwyn Cosgrove on T-nation regarding what works and what doesn't. He said some god things about bodyweight exercises before external loading (Coach has also talked on this subject). So, I'm concentrating on bodyweight movements for a while to build my stability.
Last night: 5 rounds of 10 push ups, 15 sit ups with the AbMat, 20 squats. 11:00
Today: Cindy.
To quote Karl, me old son, "Ouchy."

Comment #56 - Posted by: Ron N. at September 28, 2005 8:30 AM

Okay so I stopped at ten minutes, but I am using the whole "I already did legs this morning" excuse. Not very good but my quads were about to murder me. Maybe I'll do the other ten later on today. My results were 10 rounds in 10.35 minutes.

Comment #57 - Posted by: Ian at September 28, 2005 8:30 AM

21 rounds in 20:17 all unbroken.
Last time 17 sets. Still whinning about the squats

Last 3 rounds were my fastest. Took about 10 rounds to get my legs to stop burning from doing squats.

WOD: Cindy...4 squats short of 21 rounds. for squats i did OH squats w/ a broomstick. went through the full ROM i could do w/ good form (i.e., w/o rounding my lower back and dropping my pelvis). squats held me up (as usual), but they were better than last time. pullups were kipping w/ alternating grip switching sides each round.

run practice at the track and maybe some HSPU work later.

Great day with Cindy.

5 pull-ups assisted
10 push ups on knees
15 squats

I completed 14 rounds + 5 pull-ups + 10 push ups + 5 squats

I am proud of my improvements from the last time. I lowered my pull-up assist by another 10# and all my squats were rear to ankles and unbroken. Even with this I improved my amount accomplished in 20 minutes. Last time it was 14 rounds even.

I've always liked the Brady Bunch, so I decided to do Cindy today...my first time. And you always remember your first time, right? :)

Anyway, modified doing incline pull up on homemade rings suspended from a chin-up bar and knee-pushups, I did

8 rounds + 5 incline pull ups.

I had about a minute to go, so got down to do push ups, and my arms revolted worse than Russians under Soviet Rule. :)

I couldn't get off the floor on my first down....

By the way, woohoo for CF Oakland, I'm there. Any idead when it's opening? In answer to Clay's question, that building is at 33rd & Broadway, just down the street from the M/B center.

Cindy - 20 rds in 19:~~

Trying to get fancy with my super watch, timing each split, I ended up fumbling with the watch trying to switch between Chrono and Timer to see how much time I had left when the timer went off. Fine motor skills deteriorated, along with response loop while catching my breath between rounds. I'd push the button and it took a few seconds to realize I didn't push it hard enough, push again, wrong mode, push again, etc. Next time I'll tick the rounds on a piece of paper until the buzzer.

I started out by trying to get in a few extra rounds in the early minutes, shooting to be at 12-13 by the ten minute mark, then maintain 1 rd on the minute to 20 minutes. I managed to get ahead by 1, 11 rounds in 9:52, then proceeded to squander my gain over the next 9 rounds.

Fun, fun, fun!

Pull ups done on an attic ledge.

HSPUs were a lot of negatives and partials. Did extra because of this. I need to work on more full -head below hands- HSPUs.

Pistols were unassisted.

I'm hoping you understand that bodyweight squats for Cindy are just that - squats with your body, only. No additional weight required, although 9 rounds with 110# extra is impressive... or did I missunderstand your post above?

I'm new. This is my fourth WOD. First one that I ried to do close to RXed.

Did Cindy. subbed 47 kilo BB push-presses for push ups. got 14 rounds and 1 pullup.

Comment #107 - Posted by: dave at September 28, 2005 1:43 PM

Well, scrolling down the comments I noticed there were other "Tim's" besides me. I'll post under TimR from now on :)

Sweated out 18 rounds with Cindy in 19:48. 3 round improvement from last time. Usually squats are what hold me back, but I was flying through them. Did pullups on a flat bar for the first time - usually do them on the wide-grip bar. The flat bar seemed tougher, but I think after doing nearly 100 of them, I am a little stronger :)

Mike, the m/b center is/was the skanky mall at the corner of Macarthur and Broadway--Back in the day, anyway. Glad to see you guys opening, will have to come across the Richmond bridge and workout with y'all.

Kudos to Brand and Julian.
I managed 15 rounds in 15 minutes (barely squeezing a workout in between meetings - corporate life!)
Hence the 3/4 Cindy.

Looks like there's a lot of other guys named Tim on the CF comments, so I will start posting under TimR.

Cindy as rx'ed: 18 rounds in 19:48 - 3 round improvement from last time.

Cindy
20 rounds in 19:35

Comment #116 - Posted by: PeterN at September 28, 2005 2:38 PM

13 rounds + 5 pullups & 7 pushups.

Last time 14 rounds. I'm happy with the results for a couple of reasons: 1) felt like warmed over crap (swollen lymph nodes/oncoming cold and bad sleep the previous night); 2) All squat sets were unbroken - a first for me. My legs might be catching up (surpassing) my upper body (I know, one piece... but heck this is big for me after years of abusing myself with body-building exercises and being a "show-pony").

Comment #117 - Posted by: Patrick at September 28, 2005 2:41 PM

cindy for 13 rounds and the timer went off as i put my hands on the bar for 14...this was my very virst crossfit back on aug 10...pull ups were unbroken, and i just overall felt a whole lot better than i did...i don't say it enough, so...thanks, coach

Cindy, 20:00 min.

10th rep pull ups broken (3+2), push ups broken (8+2), squats as rx'd
11th rep 3 pull ups to failure, 8 push ups to failure, squats as rx'd, saw Pukie laughing at me from across the gym at 20:00 min, so after a short breather, CII for 2,500 meters to show that clown who's boss. Cindy is one tough gal...

Cindy: 17 rounds = PR!

Not only did I do a round and a half more than last time, but I did all my pull-ups without assist, so it's a double victory for me. Kip is my new best friend and my abs are my new target.

Oh, first 5 rounds of pull-ups unbroken. All rounds of push-ups and squats unbroken. All squats below parallel.

Comment #122 - Posted by: John Elstad at September 28, 2005 3:18 PM

Ron- Jonesey is correct. I spent two years and change as a paramedic in Oakland and made about fifteen dollars the whole time. Thanks AMR!

Mary: Got 5 HSPUs into round 12.

HSPUs nose or forehead to floor, wall for balance. Rock-bottom pistols. Those were sucky after yesterday's front-squats.

Soundtrack: Isis.

Back-off triad day 2:
1/2 Cindy: 9 rds + 5 pull-up + 10 push-up in 10 min.
Disappointed with numbers, but worked hard on getting "real" push-ups with full shoulder extension.

Eric2's Pregnant Wife:
Cindy: 23 rds + 3 pull-up (PR!!!)
1st 6 as rx'd, remaining rds with jumping pull-ups and knee push-ups.

Grethel (CrossFit Murrieta's 1st (non-paying) client):
Cindy: 13 rds
Jumping pull-ups, knee push-ups.

22 rounds + 5 pullups and 10 pushups
Focused on form particularly full extension on the squats

I had a partial rip of a calous....You guys should have seen the look on the face of the 24 hour fitness people when I asked them for something to wipe the blood off of the pullup bar, they thought I was crazy. It was classic...

Comment #132 - Posted by: TroyD at September 28, 2005 3:55 PM

Comment #134 - Posted by: masterpayne at September 28, 2005 4:01 PM

p.s. How do you breathe during pullups?! Even just doing jumping I have to stop at the bottom and take another breath.

Comment #135 - Posted by: Corinne at September 28, 2005 4:01 PM

"Cindy" 16 rounds with :33 to spare. WOD was done outside - sunny and 75 - which added a little challenge. Finished with a 2500m max effort row as a punishment for not getting 18 rounds.

Comment #139 - Posted by: Jake at September 28, 2005 4:24 PM

“Cindy”
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
5 Pull-ups - sets 1-8 as Rx, set 9 = 4+1 jumping pull-up, set 10 = 3+2 jumping pull-ups
10 Push-ups - as Rx
15 Squats - as Rx

ROUNDS: 10 + 15 Squats, 6 Push-ups

Although I did the same number of rounds today as last time, I made some good progress in my pull-ups. Last time I was only able to do rounds one and two as prescribed. After that I needed to do assisted pull-ups. In today's effort, I was able to do eight rounds of pull-ups as prescribed - no assist. In rounds nine and ten I needed to do jumping pull-ups, but I believe this is also an improvement because they seem tougher than assisted pull-ups. Finally, last time I was able to crank out 12 extra squats before the time ran out. Today I did 15 extra squats and 6 extra push-ups. Afterward, I played around with some pikes and bridges on my power-wheel (http://www.crossfitkc.com/gear.php?productID=13) but Pukie poked his head over the Eastern Sierra and told me to cut it out.

That said, I am, as always, mighty impressed and humbled by everyone's efforts today. Two that caught my eye were Allen Yeh's PR of 16 rounds. 5 more than last time - GREAT JOB ALLEN! The 24 rounds by masterpayne is totally inspirational too. Thanks for the heads up on the challenge of 25 rounds. It is nice to have a goal to shoot for.

Cheers, Scott

Reserving Cindy for a challenge with a non crossfitter at work. ;)

Today's workout at Brand X:
Big Dogs: 135+, Pack: 96-65, Puppies: 45-25, BC's: PVC Pipe

I started with 65 then went down to 45# during cleans

run 400m
Clean 5x5x5
run 400m
Front Squat 5x5x5
run 400m
Push Press 5x5x5

Started out too heavy and took off 20lbs because I was going to slow in the first set of cleans.

Who is this House person that did 33 rounds of Cindy, with a BW of 250 plus a 15lb vest. That is absolutely incredible. This is not meant to slight the poster, Utah(also with 33 rounds), in any way. As another of the heavier-weight crossfitters(at BW=245), 33 is absolutely sick, and makes me feel quite worthless. And motivated to improve.
Next time we do cindy, ya'll should make a video.

we just did Chelsea last week at +1 for 25 min, so we felt froggy today and did FGB. Had to substitute "step hops" alternating right and left for box jumps; and double unders due to lack of a rowing machine, but still got the work done.

My first Crossfit workout back in January was FGB with Curtis and John U. at Crossfit Rainier, and I got a 199. With my score today, and the bonus fact that I got my first muscle-up this A.M., today was a good day. Thank you Coach and Laura and Curtis and John and Mike Perry and everyone else for a great lifestyle change.

Last time: 10 rnds plus pulls

This time: 9 rnds plus two pulls

All pulls were from dead hang, alternating grip after the sixth rnd

Pushups were chest to ground

Squats were to the ankels

Comment #209 - Posted by: robp at September 29, 2005 5:25 AM

Cindy 14 rounds. this workout combined with the front squat workout the other day...it is difficult to walk. :D

Comment #210 - Posted by: jgqb at September 29, 2005 5:37 AM

Only did 15 but changed squat for sit-ups, as I did 9km run plus sprints and plyo's.

Focused on form, no rests in the 20 minutes.

Cindy
10 in 15 minutes, then I was kicked off the squat rack and pullup bar by the circuit training class. Have to come back and give her the time and attention she really deserves.

Comment #217 - Posted by: Ellen S at September 29, 2005 8:03 AM

Cindy:
10 rounds
lightly jump assisted pull ups after first round
Pushups on knees after round 4
Squats as rxd

Comment #218 - Posted by: Baron at September 29, 2005 8:03 AM

Cindy - 16 rounds (PR is 21)

Breezed through first 10 minutes and then hit the wall for some reason. Too much time on airplanes.

BW 224#
Fast day today.

Ever since the "tight shoulders" video and the "chin to bar" thread I've been forcing and expanding my shoulder ROM throughout the day. I felt this made an enormous difference in today's WOD.

Comment #224 - Posted by: Alex McClung at September 29, 2005 10:10 AM

Cindy, 15 rounds + 5 + 7 (PR)

Comment #225 - Posted by: StephenT at September 29, 2005 10:52 AM

John- 21 unbroken sets

Chris- 10 broken sets, pullups was my weakness, or as John so elegantly put, I have identified a potential growth area.

A day late but:

Cindy 15 rounds even

All kipping pull-ups - FINALLY! none assisted or modified.

pushups drove me to my knees halfway through, gosh darned it!

ATF squats - legs felt the burn.

Comment #230 - Posted by: Veronica at September 29, 2005 1:20 PM

cindy as rx- 11 rounds with 34 seconds left over to stare at the chin up bar. only second crossfit WOD but liking the idea

Comment #232 - Posted by: Kalani Ng at September 29, 2005 1:43 PM

Cindy:

Hark: 11 rnds with 100lb pull-up assist in 18:50.
(Did 10 in 19:10 on 8/14/05, but was MUCH stronger today, had less assist with pull-ups)

Rick: 6 rnds in 11:56, w/ 100lb assist and push-ups from knees, followed, due to injury, by another 70 squats before time ran out.
(Did 8 rnds in 19:10 on 8/14/05)

Comment #233 - Posted by: Harkonnendog at September 29, 2005 2:06 PM

Cindy: 7 rounds
New PR by 1 round

I felt so blech today. Was yawning and sleepy all the way to the gym and I ate like crap the night before and this morning. Need to try again sometime soon, I rested too much and I'm sure I had at least 1 more round in me. Pfeh..

Comment #235 - Posted by: Erik_b at September 29, 2005 5:02 PM

Mary - 11 complete rounds, with some modifications. HSPUs against a wall, with a 3 inch pillow on the floor. Single leg squats are just that, not pistols. Pullups were singles only at the end in order to break 20 minutes.

Comment #236 - Posted by: Paul Si at September 29, 2005 5:16 PM

11 rounds, 5 pull ups.
Also slowed the squats to "mature" form.
Awesome DOMS in the hams today.

Comment #253 - Posted by: Ron N. at September 30, 2005 9:19 AM

Mary
8 rounds + hspu, pistols, & 6 pull-ups
The pull-ups killed me. Had to break them up in 5s after 4th round.

Comment #254 - Posted by: Andy S at September 30, 2005 9:38 AM

14 rounds - pullups still the weak link.
first 7 rounds I alternated between pronated and supinated grips then switched to supinated for the last 7.
not bad after being sick and only do 2 of the last 6 WODs

Comment #255 - Posted by: Trevor at September 30, 2005 10:35 AM

cindy
15 1/2 rounds unbroken
used band assisted pullups- love them...better than gravitron... able to go faster...able to keep it pullups
1st time unbroken on this wod
pushups full body 1st seven sets-then switched to knees

Comment #256 - Posted by: Kathryn at September 30, 2005 10:52 AM

11 Rounds in almost exactly 20:00.

Might have squeezed out another or two if I didn't have to waste time moving to and from a pull up station.

Squats were butt to ankles.
Pushups chest to floor.
Pull-ups I kipped (mostly)

After reading posts of 15+ rounds, I feel all wimpy!

Comment #257 - Posted by: P. Bryan Edge-Salois at September 30, 2005 1:50 PM

P. Bryan Edge-Salois...I know how you feel!

BWT = 240#
10 rounds in 18:30. Couldn't get my arms to pull me up after that. Same as last time, but less assist with PU. Only last two sets of pushups were from knees vs. final 4 sets last time.

Comment #258 - Posted by: B. JAY D. at September 30, 2005 3:11 PM

8 rounds + 5 HSPU's & 6 Squats

Comment #259 - Posted by: CDT at September 30, 2005 5:04 PM

Mary...11 rounds, new PR.

HSPU done back to wall, top of head to floor;
broken only when balance was an issue.

Pistols a** to ankles, hand on power rack for
balance.

Kipping pull-ups...all rounds unbroken.

Finally got to this one.

Cindy, 22 rounds plus 2 pullups.

Felt very good (except for the wanting to puke part...).

Comment #263 - Posted by: RickB at October 1, 2005 5:02 PM

Cindy

15 rds plus 5 pullups + 1 pushup

did pullups on rings (but they were quite close to their hang point)
pushup form wasn't so hot
squats were good
down from PR of 17+ many months ago but up from 14+ last time (I think)
only kept up with the minutes through 7 rounds (down from typical 8)
feeling nauseated...is that really a good thing?

Comment #264 - Posted by: Rene' at October 1, 2005 8:04 PM

Cindy yesterday
22 rounds + 5 pullups + 4 pushups
