75 pound Thruster
Pull-ups

With a continuously running clock do one thruster the first minute, two pull-ups the second minute, three thruster the third minute, and four pull-ups the fourth minute…continuing in this pattern as long as you are able. If your pace falls behind the count, continue to alternate exercises while recording reps for a total of twenty minutes.

Last but certainly not least Bring it On!

Strong work George!

It seems that every day there are several people who have questions about the exercises--no fault of theirs. I propose that every day, below "Post time to comments" there is a link to the Exercises page labeled "Descriptions of exercises" or something along those lines. Just a thought.

Comment #11 - Posted by: John Elstad at September 24, 2005 12:19 AM

I've occasionally seen links to some exercises but the exercises page is a place everyone should visit frequently. as is Lynne's FAQ page

Comment #12 - Posted by: Steven N at September 24, 2005 1:23 AM

Evil genius indeed.Deceptive workout in every way. Got to 14 minutes on target but had to drop to 6 pull ups and 10 thusters after that.Whats tommorrow ,maybe running..how about some sprints over 100m ?!!!

Comment #13 - Posted by: GuyUK at September 24, 2005 3:31 AM

Completed 21 minutes. Had 21 pullups at 22:02

Comment #14 - Posted by: steve72 at September 24, 2005 4:51 AM

Warmed up with 3x10 double 36# kb snatches.

18 rounds with 75# thrusters, strict (up to round 10) and kipping pullups. It took everything I had to make all 17 thrusters in a minute; 19 was out of the question with a total of 10 broken reps that round. 20 pullups on last round.

5 minute rest.

Same WOD using body rows on rings and 20# two hand cb sheild casts. Much to my surprise the body rows nearly did me in; just barely made 19 in a minute. Sheild casts became more fluid as time went on.

Comment #15 - Posted by: kelly moore at September 24, 2005 5:16 AM

thru 10 as prescribed, and then manage, manage, manage at 5 a round for the last 10 rounds! :)

Comment #16 - Posted by: Neil Eldridge at September 24, 2005 5:18 AM

Dan:

Completed AS RX !! (no rack for BB)

I can't believe it. I did'nt think I had a chance in hell.
Well, just goes to show, I am still discovering how well CrossFit is preparing me for 'extreme' physical exertion!

Biked to gym. 6°C with 30k cross winds this morning...out here in Eastern Canada, Hey!

...way to "hang in there" George...inspirational...great form too!

Comment #18 - Posted by: dave k at September 24, 2005 6:08 AM

All those years of school, you'd think I'd learn to read.

Got through 16 pull-ups, but I was doing 95# thrusters. And I wondered why they were smoking me so bad. The pull-ups were going well and I could have done at least 18. I'll try to get it right on an off day evertually.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Aaron at September 24, 2005 6:12 AM

up early for work, didn't go for the 20 min, forgot the instructions

15 rounds + 11 pullups

Comment #20 - Posted by: Jim Howe at September 24, 2005 6:25 AM

Team Ruthless Crossfit Va.

I hope I did this right.I used a 40 lb. weight vest to punish myself for yesterday's performance.
I had to drop the vest at minute 17 to finish up on time.Got 19 thrusters in the 19th min.--20 pull ups in the 20th min. and stopped.I hope that is the way it was supposed to be done.

Pulse was 160 at conclusion.

Comment #21 - Posted by: JeffT at September 24, 2005 6:27 AM

Are the thrusters suppose to be barbell?

Comment #22 - Posted by: Matt at September 24, 2005 6:30 AM

Went ok until minute 10, then broken sets from there. Probably would have been better to stick to instructions versus thinking I could do the thrusters w/115lbs...idiot! Didn't nearly get required #'s after that, but feel good about the progress, even after only one week. CrossFit can be described in one word: frikinbuttkicker! Thanks for waking me up...so many years wasted :(

Comment #23 - Posted by: Tulsa Tom at September 24, 2005 6:48 AM

Whole sets up to min 17, then speratic random movements in the likes of the exercises.

Comment #24 - Posted by: Anand B. at September 24, 2005 7:01 AM

somehow managed to pump out 13 full rounds, but then pathetically only 25 of each movement until the 20 min mark....these clock ones are always killer

Comment #25 - Posted by: ChrisNelson at September 24, 2005 7:20 AM

This is the second WOD that I read wrong this week.

I did one thruster, one pull up the first minute,
2 thrusters, 2 pull ups the second minute, 3 thrusters, 3 pull ups the third minute and so on.
I like the looks of the posted wod better.

Anyway, I lasted 12 minutes and one pullup away from 13 minutes.
Good workout. Heading for a 15k trail run tomorrow. Eliminating my chances of misreading the wod yet again.

Comment #26 - Posted by: bradw at September 24, 2005 8:02 AM

John:
Used 80# instead of 75# (didn't bring the right plates).

Completed up to round 16 successfully. Got 16 thrusters on round 17 and was about to crank out the 17th when the timer went. R18: 12; R19: 11; R20: 13.

That was a blast! Really enjoyed this one.

Machiko:
Subbed 2 x 10# DBs for thrusters.
Subbed ring rows for pull-ups.

Completed round 13 or 14 successfully then was down to about 10 reps per round until the 20 minute mark.

Comment #27 - Posted by: john v. at September 24, 2005 8:12 AM

(2 pu's shy of)
16 minutes

then 17 thrusters
11 pu's before time ran out

Comment #28 - Posted by: kyle a at September 24, 2005 8:20 AM

18 rnds & 5 thrusters But... it all began to unravel @ the 75# 17 thrusterpoint... it took minutes 18 &19 to do 18 PU & 5 thrusters

COACH.. you may be pleased to know that I used the same wts that my dad & I got in 1961..? '62 @ that time YORK BB sold a 75# set & that 75# NEVER felt heaver...of course @ age 13 my goal was to just be able to military press 75# .. I dont think that the BP had been invented yet
ANYWAY LIFE is just one long happy WOD baby!

Comment #29 - Posted by: dave k at September 24, 2005 8:21 AM

Rounds 1 thru 15 completed unbroken with 20 lb
vest.

Shed vest for remaining 5 rounds.

All rounds unbroken except rounds 19 and 20.
Thrusters broken 12/7, pull-ups broken 15/5.

This protocol sneaks up on you fast; you think
to yourself, this ain't so bad then WHAM!

Maybe next time I'll try to complete it with
the vest;)

Comment #30 - Posted by: Mel Jenkins at September 24, 2005 8:36 AM

WOD: 20min
BW=191lbs
Unbroken until round 15. Pullups were on rings and thrusters were with 2 1.5pd KBs. Rounds 18 and 20 were done as body rows. Warmed up with joint mobility and 1.5KB TGU/windmill combinations(3L+3R).

Made it through minute 11 with prescribed reps. Used 60# bar through minute 9 on the thrusters then went down to 55# and at minute 15 went down to 45#. Managed to continute after minute 11 with 9 pullups each pullup round and 10 thrusters each thruster round. Finished with hollow rocks and L-sits.

Did 16 solid rounds then fell to pieces, doing 5/5 then 10/10. Was reasonably pleased with the performance though. Afterwards did KB swings (but got kicked off KBs by an idiotic trainer bc they are for 'trainer use only' - whatever, gotta let it slide), turkish get-ups, and a vain attempt at L-sits.

Comment #42 - Posted by: TK at September 24, 2005 10:14 AM

Got through all 19 thrusters in allotted time
got to 14 pu's in time
did 14 at 16 min mark
did 10 at 18 min mark
did 10 at 20 min mark

Then did 100 pushups with feet elevated on bench for a total time of 29:30....NOT cool!

Comment #43 - Posted by: JackM at September 24, 2005 10:27 AM

Well, what can I say? Things went from good to bad to worse to MUCH worse. Got up to 14 pullups and finally had to break them into 2x7. Still did them in under a minute, so I'm guessing they still count. 15 thrusters were done in about :41, and I was panting HARD. 16 pullups were out of the question, so I rested 1 minute, then did 7 STRICT pullups. Was up to 17 minutes by now. Did 10 thrusters, 4 STRICT pullups, and 10 thrusters to finish. Needless to say that I got my ass kicked thoroughly!

Comment #44 - Posted by: Tim at September 24, 2005 10:28 AM

15 rounds.....

This one was evil.

Had to take a break after the 15th round for a minute. Then alternated between 10 and 10 to finish out the 20 minutes .

Anyone else think this was going to be easy till about round 10? How foolish of me.

Afterwards, made one of my squad members do tabata thruster, situps, and pushups. He thinks crossfit is evil. He..he...

On time through round/set 13 (thrusters). Total for 20 minutes was: got through set of 17 thrusters +3 pull ups.

This was nice; after the first several curious minutes of easy sets (spell that "what certain disaster looms ahead?"), you could see the inevitable ass kicking coming like a freight train.

gravitron pullup machine at 50% body weight (I am 125 lbs)

37.5lb. dumbells for thrusters (to meet the 75lb. requirement).

CFWU x3(minus pull-ups, plus flutterkicks-50/4 count per round)
WOD all the way through rd 14 as rx'd. After that:
:15/15 :16/10 :17/17(the looks got intense when I almost met Pukie) :18/08 :19/19(more looks) :20/10
More pain in the shoulders, but still loved the workout!

17 rounds finished as rx'd
round 18 (managed only 16/18 pull ups in the alloted time)
round 19 finished 19 thrusters as rx'd

Much harder than it appeared, but aren't they all?

16 rounds; then quit like a wuss. Back was already f'd up from the previous round of WODs and wasn't in the mood for any more pain.

Warmed up with some clubbells: mills and 2-hand mills.

Holy Snot Bubbles,

14 complete sets then I hit a wall that shot me back to set number 3 or 4. Continued until 20 minutes with only a total of 15 pull ups and 10 thrusters completed in the last 6 minutes.

Great workout coach!

Comment #103 - Posted by: Sandy Slayer at September 24, 2005 10:40 PM

As Rx'd up to 13, but with 45lbs on the thrusters and assisted pullups.

Minutes 14-20: thrusters 7-10 reps, pullups 7-13 reps with rising assistance (last set at #20 on cybex machine)

12 pull-ups.

11 thrusters.

After that, it was just a mess.

Comment #106 - Posted by: Kris at September 24, 2005 11:42 PM

SO CLOSE! No cigar.

BTW=150.

18 rounds on the pace. 19 rounds completed, plus five pullups of round 20, in 20 minutes.

Chipped one of my front teeth on the down-swing of a pullup. That was lame. Now I can't stop tonguing it.

Got to 16 before breaking up sets of pullups. Broke down entirely in round 19. Did the first 4 minutes in one (ie 4 thrusters and 6 pullups - didn't seem too much for one minute and otherwise the first few minutes seem a bit easy. The same can't be said for the last few).

13 minutes. The last 2 minutes I actually ran over time to complete the reps.

Used 15lb dumbbells for thrusters.
Most pullups were negatives after round 4.

I think I pulled something in my neck. :(

Skipped Friday's workout and didn't do Saturday's until Sunday! Warm up today was 7 hours of garage cleaning/organizing, including moving a palette and 1/2 of cultured stone.

Did 17 rounds total, took about 19 minutes. Great workout - ramped up the heart rate nicely. Sub'd 30 lb db's for thrusters.

Leanne did 5 rounds of 6 ring rows and 20 box step-ups. Slowly getting back into it...

Comment #138 - Posted by: C1ph3r at September 26, 2005 5:47 AM

Performed Sept 25, 2005:

All square through 12 pullups and 13 thrusters, then: 10PUs, 9 T, 6 PUs, 8T, 10PUs, 7T, 7PUs and complete failure without assists.

I started sensing tough sets to come at 11 thrusters.

FWIW 9 straight PUs a new PR.

Comment #159 - Posted by: rocco at September 27, 2005 11:57 AM

Interesting workout!

kept up through 12 pullups, then only managed 6 thrusters;

finished the remaining 7 thrusters then the 14 pullups and quit there (about 17 min) at the request of my shoulders and wrists;

then did a mile on the treadmill, 0.5% incline, 8 mph, in a new effort to add some running miles to my legs every week to try to get past some IT band issues; we'll see.

Comment #160 - Posted by: Rene' at September 27, 2005 2:10 PM
