Any suggestions for a sub to the double unders??
I'd say perhaps squat jumps would be decent enough...this looks killer, I can't wait! :D
What is a suitable sub for Double-unders?
Disregard the questions in the comments for yesterday, I posted it on the wrong day. Sorry.
Never meet "Annie" before ,this looks like fun.
24" box jumps are an alright sub for double unders. I have also heard about 3x regular jump rope skips (2x is just too easy).
I see Burpees are a sub for Double-unders. Tomorrow is going to be really interesting.
i think it would be worth it to pain through learning how to do double unders (if that's the case above). a friend and i went out earlier this fall and just went at it until we were capable of doing 20 consecutive double unders. we couldn't walk the next day, but we now have the coordination to do them. just a suggestion.
I own the computer from he** and I am unable to view the videos. I am able to see the slide shows, but the 'double under' only has a video. Can someone describe a double under, please?
Skip,
DU is like a regular jump rope but take the roupe around twice per jump. Rumor has it the height of the jump is not the key, rather speed of the rope. I have yet to get more than 3 in a row (newbie) so check for other answers.

'been seeing more of those crossfit elite posts, but whatever happend to 'matt G' -you had some sick posts dude, where'd you go?
Double unders? don't be scared, buckle down and learn 'em they're a beautiful thing!!
Thanks for the link to the sit-up technique article, just the very day I was wondering about it !
as rxed
13 minutes ish based on clock on the wall. DU were easy as I skip well. The trick is rope speed and hand/eye conordiantion. I can usually get 20 plus in a row. I find a good rhythn is a DU, regualr skip DU. That what I did today. Next time I'll go for the faster tougher option of straight DU Situps are still a struggle but getting better. I do them unanchored.

forgot to start the timer so unsure of time.
estimated that it would be around the 8 minute mark.
then worked on the evil wheel and sledgehammer levering
13:06 just DU's...all single reps (still working on rope coordination)
I guess I was using my "selective reading" trait since I mis read and didnt see sit-ups. Guess I'll be back in gym tonight

12:13. Double unders are funny, sometimes I could get 20 in a row sometimes I could only get 10 sets of 2 in a row.
17:46
Had rugby last night until 9, then workout at 6 this morning. Legs were tired, but tried to do continuous DU's. I have the rhythm just not the energy in my legs today to keep up with it. Good workout though, could be better. I'm just getting bcak into the swing of things and getting up at 5:15 isn't easy for me yet. Another shout out to the Macklroy for showing up bright and early before work with me. Getting large and in charge. Smoke you like cheap crack.
12:30.
Subbed 20 inch box jumps and leglifts off a 3 foot platform.
14:46
Subbed 20 inch box jumps and leglifts off a 3 foot platform
17:11
Managed 8 double unders in a row!! Still suck at them...
27:55, unanchored, abmat situps
~14min. Did double number of single unders plus ten double unders per set. Working on it!
Instead of straight situps, did the following:
50 crunches
50 oblique crunches - 25 per side
30 leg lifts
20 crunch/leg lifts
10 lef lifts
As RXed.
Total time: 15:44
R1: 2:55, 1:58; total: 4:53
R2: 2:41, 1:46; total: 4:27

R4: 1:10, 0:55; total: 2:05
R5: 0:40, 0:26; total: 1:06
Added 400m run aftewards: 2:15
Felt about as coordinated as a 2-year old on the DUs. Most of them were 2s and 3s, sometimes 1s. Managed 4 - 8 in a row a few times, but rarely.
SUs all unbroken, but not pretty, to say the least.
A bit disappointed with the time. Hoped to do this a bit faster.
Was in a bit of a masochistic mood, so after resting for a minute went for a 400m run. That was not fun. Glad i did it, though. Hoped for sub-2 minutes. Perhaps next time.
wu: mod cfwu (squat, sit-up, back extension, pushup, 10 reps all; 100xsingle under) x 2
wod: time 9:46
after first set of attempted double-unders turned into an abortion, subbed 4xsingle-unders per double under-still not exactly the same, sit-ups all unbroken on gradually increasing incline, tried to maintain 1/second
finished with double-under practice, could only get sets of 2, will continue to work
wall-walking x 10 sets, L-sit practice 4x10 second sets
24:00
3X jumps instead of double-unders
preacher
I can't perform more that a single double under without getting all mangled up in the rope. I need practice (which I will be doing). I therefore thought of doing a 'short rope' version of the single jump (using a rope that is as long as I am high).

12:00 minutes.
Did 3 regular jumps for every double under. I don't know why but i can not do double unders.
Can't do double unders so subbed DU's and did squats and pushups.
50-40-30-20-10
squats, pushups, situps
10:04 got a good sweat going. 2nd day back from vacation... got to get into it a little.
18:50 - can't find any of my jumpropes; must be packed away in a box somewhere. Did 52# kb snatches until I tore off a callous (rep 8 of the 30 rep round), finished with 52# kb swings to forehead height. Anchored situps.
13:08 as rx'd. Got a better rhythm with the jump-rope this time.
I tried this workout this morning when I got up, but soon realized my body wasn't awake enough to do something that required that much coordination. I tried again after work with more success. It was my first attempt at double unders and I have red welts up and down my arms to prove it. I finally got the alternating rhythm down as was able to make it through ten in a row
17:09
First WOD.
19:36
Too long away from the rope, clumsy on DUs so I mixed Singles and DUs, and did twice as many.
100/80/60/40/20
Situps - counting error on the 40 set, added a set of 20. 50-30-20-20-20-10
8:29 but had to sub DU with singles x2. Still haven't cracked the nut on DU.
wod as prescribed:
50-40-30-20-10
double-unders
situps
time = 15:47
finally got the timing down for chained double-unders at the end of the first set.
time dropped quite a bit for subsequent sets.
16:35
Subbed 3X rope skips for DU plus attempted 1/4 required DU per round for practice. Still need much more practice.
11:07
I'm pretty bad on the rope. All reps of du were singles except 3 sets of 2 on the last round.
9:08
did Crossfit warmup (3 rounds), and then attempted double unders...got 1 out of maybe 20, so I decided to just to regular jump ropes x3. No other alterations.
I did 3x single unders
Sit-ups unbroken
19:04
cfwu x3
WOD: 16:15
double unders were almost all singles, and i didnt count misses (although i started cursing like a sailor when it hit the back of my head). situps were on an improvised abmat...good stuff. id actually been adding a posterior chain extension to my situps during the warmup but i like this a lot more...i look like less of a freak.
7:47. Spent 20 minute warmup trying to get coordination for DUs. Workout went pretty quick once I had those down to some extent.
I guess Annie hates Double-unders and Sit-ups;)
13:02...I think this is the about the first WOD I"ve ever done as rx'd unbroken. double unders to about 35 then skipped a beat every time, 30 and under was no problem; but fineshed the sets with no rest except to walk to the sit up bench.

started by practicing DU's. Think I got one or two after multiple attempts
subbed singles 2x- I think you're right about it being too easy- need to do 3x singles if still can't do DU's next time
Thanks for the ab article- it answered a lot of questions I had.
Figures, I rode my bike in today ($65.00 to fill tank on SUV last night!!) didn't bring AbMat, will try towel or half swedish ball instead.
cfwu x3, subbed push ups and good mornings for sit ups and back extensions...wod 16 min, subbed singles x3 for du's, sit ups anchored...the ex just moved out today so between that and the endorphins i'm feeling pretty damn good right now ^_^
10:02 as rxed. The DU's were broken into 2 sets for the most part but only because I messed up, other than that, situps unbroken and I was able to do up to 44 DUs in a row.
DU's and sit ups broken
10:45
13:15
All DUs broken except last set. Finally found my rythym on last set. Maybe next time will be easier.
All SUs broken except last set. Did PUs as recommended by AbMat (used rolled up towel). HUGE difference.
First day back after physical therapy on my shoulder.
10:45.
Did a double under every fifth rep, regular skip for the rest.
10:27
Double-unders unbroken except for a couple of
misses.
Sit-ups unbroken, unanchored on floor with Abmat.
My complete inability to do double-unders has always driven me away from Angie, but today I took her on, sub'd 3 regular rope jumps/DU for a total time of 7:40.
Then spent another 10 minutes trying to get DUs again - still can't do 'em, although more of my failures were landing on the rope than last time (as opposed to whacking myself in the shins, which was still most of my attempts).
Aw well, maybe next time...

I practiced my double-unders for awhile as warm-up and actually got 2 or 3, which is a first for me. Now I just have to make them consistent.
did 2 x SU as a sub, didnt know about the 3 x single sub. Did Janda sit-ups with a 32kg KB as weight to lock my legs on.
10:12
Then did 2.2 mile run in 14:56
Then 100 push-ups
100 janda-sit ups
Have a great day.

As Rx'd 11:14
Warmed up with Russian situps using 35lb dumbell, 5lb DB swimmers, boot strappers, and KB rotating deadlifts. Then performed a 1.5pood KB snatch ladder for 5-10-15-20-25. Last set was broken as I felt the callouses beginning to rip from my hands. Getting ready for the upcoming RKC cert which requires me to snatch the 1.5pood 32x each arm nonstop. i am there but I want a little insurance. Snatches drained me so the double-unders were sloppy. Wanted to try the WOD with burpees but too fatigued. Felt great though. Can't wait for tomorrow's WOD.
14:16 as rx'd
Did the sit-ups unanchored on the floor.
Used a BOA jump rope for DU.
Coordination stinks - 6 in a row was the best I could get without getting tangled.
Used DU, skip, DU for the majority of the time.
13:26 as rx'd
Coordination was a problem; all du's completed but had to interpose a single between each du to keep a rhythm. Could only max at 12 before tripping then started again.
Sit ups unbroken.
~25 min doing twice as many single unders. Got a good unbroken pace going with the jump rope, but those situps were taking me wayyyy too long.
6:14 as rx'd
I LOVE DOUBLE-UNDERS!!! KEEP 'EM COMIN'!!
cfwu x 3, no sit-ups. Back extensions done using perpendicular bench at hips and weight bar on smith rack to hold legs. WOD Sit ups were done on BOSU half ball instead of my abmat (see earlier post) First set of DU's was broken at 20. Second set of sit-ups were broken at 25. All other sets were continuous. I used a shorter rope today than I'm accustomed to and it made me jump a lot faster!!
As rx'd
12:45
New PR for consecutive DU's at 28 during the 40 rep set.
Finished with 10 x2 of Bench, 45# OHS, Leg press machine...
16:36... Got the first 20 DUs in a row, but was fumbling there after. But got them all! Will practice more.
36# KB snatch/KB clean and push press after along with some L sits.
Good job Katie...that's the time for Jon to beat!

hey guys I've been crossfitting and on "the zone" diet plan for about 4 months. I was just starting to get back to Marine Corps shape when I broke both arm this weekend biking,(knew I should have left those training wheels on a few more weeks.) Anyway, has anyone got any suggestions on how to prevent losing to much ground or gaining any fat?

Subbed crunches for sit-ups (wuss!). After trying the 1st 15 "ab-mat" style with a rolled up towel, I knew I would not be able to sustain any kind of intensity. It looks like ab-mat sit-ups will go in my warm-up until I can crank them out at a decent rate.

w/ 3x singles, anchored sit-ups, & 25 box jumps at the end to make up for a portion of the singles instead of doubles...Made several ugly attempts at doubles and will continue to work on them.
Corey,
Check out the CFJournal article from May 2005 entitled, "Working Wounded" and keep up with the Zone. The article describes a situation with a "disabled right leg." Even though your situation is with your arms, this still might give you some good ideas for redesigning workouts. Then, no reason to stop the Zone...
Heal well and quickly!

sets of double unders broken but best yet as i managed to get lots of high numbers like 28, 25, 20, and 10 reps
First time doing DUs. Lots of short reps, but some streaks of 10 and one of 20. Surprisingly hard on the shoulders. 17:05.
10:04
I got tired of whipping myself in the back so I did 3x the number of sit ups
Executed the WoD from Monday today @ ~24:00. (assisting another CrossFit person).
- 120 Pull-ups (kipping, jumping, Gravitron).
- 125 dips (went over intentionally).
- 50 abmat sit-ups.
- Shooting practice for game tomorrow.
10:39
Used a heavy rope for jumps. Didn't do double unders, but figured the extra weight from the rope was a sufficient sub.

"Annie" 19:52.2
All double-unders were unfortunately single rep's.. On the last ten i think i caught sight of what it will take to do multiple double-unders. In any case, it was still a good workout. I fear something dreadfully hardcore tomorrow
most of the DU were in pairs but did manage the odd string of 5 or 6 in a row.
12:23 was the total time...but as i was posting this i realized i only did 50,40,30,20
then i had to go and do Monday's WOD which i had missed.
17:40
I did plenty of singles in addition to the double unders but I didn't count them. Its been a while since I've done any skipping but towards the end I was able to string together 5-7 double unders in a row.
I did regular floor situps. I anchored my feet by gripping a medicine ball with my ankles.
Still looking for a decent rope that is long enough for me (6'4")...so sub'd 20" BJ. Situps were AbMat style with rolled up towel.
28:40
8:30.
No misses on JR. Sit-ups unanchored and slow.
I love jumping rope with Annie S!
First workout after a long (1.5 week) vacation, during which time I did not work out and ate more or less continuously. Felt it. 12:21, including an utterly embarrassing first set of double-unders during which I strung no more than two together. Subsequent sets were much better. Met Pukie's little brother, BileBurpie. Closest I've come to meeting the green-faced clown in months.
Plus still totally stymied at the bar muscle-up. Argh!!

Had a small group today but it was fun. It was Nathan, Kim, and myself. We all did the workout in less then 15 minutes but not sure exactly cause I was paying more attention to the others form than my watch. Oops!

What would be a good sub for double unders. I need to buy a rope.
What woul dbe a good sub for double unders?
Subbed 30" squat jumps

Double-unders and rolled-towel situps. First 35 situps were GH; my hip flexors didn't like that.
DUs in 1s, 2s, 3s, and a few 4s. Getting better though.
12:41 also, anchored.
What are GH situps?
Rode bike 10 miles then this

I think I should have doubled the double unders because this became too easy even though my shorts were loose and falling down around my ankles and I did the sit ups on concrete which hurt a bit.

TIME: 20:02
I have a "Love-Hate" relationship with Double-unders. Mostly I suck at 'em, but when, in that rare moment of jump-rope grace, I string together a bunch, I feel like freakin' Rocky :)
About 32 minutes. DU's not tried before so lots and lots of single reps with the occasional 2 in a row (and lots of SU's and swearing in between). Unanchored sit-ups with towel under back.
11:23 as rx'd
everything broken
13:40 as RX'd
Gettng better w/du's, still broken though.
23:16 At fist I was having a hell of a time with the double unders. I have welts everywhere but then all of a sudden I got the rhythm. The 1st 50 where all singles and the 40 also was. Suddenly from 30 on I just started hitting them perfect. If i hadn't of this would have taken me at least 30 minutes. I think next time I could cut this by 3/4 and finish in
around 6 or 7 min.

GH situps are situps using a Glute Ham machine, which is a sort of back extension on steroids, but if you turn over, your legs are locked in, straight, and butt supported, but you get greater ROM because your back can flex towards the deck more, a bit harder than regular situps. I believe there is a video in the exercises page.

Didn't time it.
Added two mile run.
Double unders improving. Fifteen at a time without messing up.
17:40 I am not a great jump roper but was able to use two normal jumps between the double unders much of the time instead of restarting after each one. Sit ups were a nice break between sets.
OHS workout in afternoon.
one set of 40 pullups

First time to try DUs. Ended up just doing regular jumps. I'm gonna need a lot of practice.
Time stunk up the joint: 25 and change. Forgot to turn off the watch as I practiced some more.

Well, ran out of time...did finish my Parkour WOD:

The double unders killed my time on this... I kept hitting my feet with the rope but I got better as the workout progressed.
Not a very good jump roper so I spent about an hour practicing and working on some DU's too.

Got my first potential Frankenfitter. Offered to teach him basics (his squat is POOR, and we'll need PVC) once a week.
I subd box jumps for double-unders. Total time was 10:57:90. There are five of us doing CROSSFIT and there is no room to jump rope in the small gym on base, so box jumps was more suitable.
around 25:00, subbed DU's with supersquats, felt like passing out by the end
sport specific training tonight. Hand strikes, lots of boxing combos, fun stuff.

No warm up. Did some Farmer John Walks earlier. Spent a few sec's doing some extra DU's at the end of each set to practice them and make sure I didn't cheat my self. Got a good ab-work out. After reading the ab-mat post, I made sure to exten all the way down and up.
13:50. Situps with my home-made ab-mat, on the weight bench, with my feet on the floor. Ab-mat situps are BRUTAL and were broken to all hell. Double-under, single-under, double-under pattern.

My right calf is cramped up now- insufficient warm-up.

sub'd jump over 24" high rope for DU's
I took about two weeks off because of the start of grad school, and man oh man do I ever regret it.
My attempts at double unders were painful (lots of welts, using a speed rope)and I think I may have done it once? I doubled the jumps and did the situps on the ancient decaying wood platform in the park (it has a bar to anchor the feet).
That being said, ~18 min, used my cell to time since forgot my watch (but I actually did the CF WU 3x, which usually smokes me. My bands for the pullups should be here today)
Thanks for keeping me humble
Buck
sub 3xSU, sit-ups were done on a Swiss Ball. Much less butt abrasion then doing sit-ups on the floor or on a bench.
14:16
did hollow rock instead of sit-ups

19:45 trying to figure out the coordination for the double unders can wipe a dude out
1st time on this WOD, double unders coordination was terrible. Around 21:00
I couldn't get to this WOD yesterday, so I'm doing it today. I'm a day behind.
Time: 16:45.00
Comments: the double unders were next to impossible to accomplish. Did plyometric jumps instead after about 15 when I was trying to go for 40.
My sit-ups were more like modified crunches.

glute ham situps
Did this today after the snatch wod. 21:05, couldn't get more than a few double unders in a row.
A little late posting

Did this one in the backyard. Finished off with some handstand work.

Need a lot of work on my Double-unders.
Haven't figured out double-unders yet. Modified WOD:
single-unders + sit-ups + box jumps (24") + sit-ups
50/25/30/25
50/20/25/20
50/15/20/15
50/10/15/10
50/5/10/5
between 15 and 20 min (forgot to start watch!)
sit-ups feet unanchored, arms in front
box jumps with jump down but not a quick rebound back up
John 18:04 as required.
Look alot like a mid evil thief with all the whelps I have from the whipping I give myself on double unders. Maybe that is just incentive to get my timing down
14:17
DBL UND every other
Hooked feet on sit-ups
9:52
subbed in 3 jumps for each double under.
25:03
I did my first-ever double under! All 150 were single attempts. Maybe two dozen were successful, another two dozen or so I landed on the rope, and the rest hit my shins.
I used the sit-up technique in the article except for the towel under the lower back and oof! I guess I have been cheating until now. Next time I will have to try the back support and see how much pain I can cause myself.
subbed double-unders for PUs
12:30 as otherwise Rxd.
As Rx'ed in 13:51. Double unders were a test in coordination. I was able to get about 8-10 at a time, then I would get tired and mess up. Average HR for this workout was 157. My HR monitor says I got up to 220BPM during a string of ten DU's at the end of the "40" set, but I think it was just a gadget glitch with the HR monitor.
