Eric,
The ski area Mnt. Rose is right across from Mnt. Rose where I learned to ski when I was 3. Nice Picture.

Right on cliff.

Comment #10 - Posted by: steve at August 4, 2005 10:02 PM

Got a question. I am a day behind so that is why I am posting today. I haven't been able to do the WOD the last couple of days due to patrols and lack of equipment ie Rowing machine, jump rope. I combined a few exercises into one for today. I just want to see if this was good and if I am starting to understand this Cross Fit Thing.

45 lb Thruster x 50 (20-15-10-5)
800 m Run
Bar c 20kg Deadlift x 50 (20-15-10-5)
800 m Run
Dips x 50 (20-15-10-5)
Abs on Ball x 100 (50-50)

Comment #11 - Posted by: Doc at August 4, 2005 11:58 PM

Comment #13 - Posted by: Ger at August 5, 2005 2:44 AM

Rested as Rx'd 10:27

Improved time from last rest day.

I'm really starting to get the hang of this particular WoD, now if I could just get better at the others!

Comment #14 - Posted by: Mark at August 5, 2005 5:00 AM

Doc-
Looks like a nice WOD, but what was your time?

Sweet pic Diddy.

Comment #15 - Posted by: Will Hunter at August 5, 2005 5:02 AM

well needed

Comment #16 - Posted by: OPT at August 5, 2005 5:09 AM

10 minutes cumulative on handstands against the wall, some light work on double-unders and power cleans.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Ted Zink at August 5, 2005 5:28 AM

5k in 25 min flat...

Great pic.

thanks!

Comment #18 - Posted by: Murph at August 5, 2005 6:19 AM

Just going to work GTG on pistols. In another week I think I will concentrate on handstand pushups and walking on hands.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Ben E. at August 5, 2005 6:26 AM

Diddy,

Nice pic dude, have a great trip..

Comment #20 - Posted by: karl at August 5, 2005 6:35 AM

Steve, sore from thrusters and cleans?

Just my grip really. Very new to O-lifts and squat cleans in particular. Have a hard time getting elbows up so the movement probably looks more like some weird kind of press with the weight on my palms than a proper squat clean.

Comment #21 - Posted by: EMelton at August 5, 2005 7:16 AM

Maximus-
I'm in Delaware on business, the only heavy lifting I'm doing right now is a steak....
Will post times on Monday.

Comment #22 - Posted by: nick at August 5, 2005 7:25 AM

I was vaguely aware that the mountains existed during the summer. I thought they melted completely.

Now I have photographic proof.

Comment #23 - Posted by: J Jones at August 5, 2005 8:48 AM

4 minutes total 15# clubbell mills - 30R/30L/30R/28L. Grip whipped from the last 10 minute swipe test and raw sores at the base of both hands.

105# OH squats: 8/5/10/7 - much better than anticipated considering I've been a bit lax practicing them lately.

70# sandbag mile - 15:06. Had to shuffle/jog half the distance. Traps and calves suffering.

Comment #24 - Posted by: kelly moore at August 5, 2005 8:50 AM

I'm just a little T-o'd right now, cuz no one has posted any full body pics yet...

Comment #25 - Posted by: Aaron at August 5, 2005 9:13 AM

60 minutes of easy cardio on the bike today.
Rugby tournament tomorrow in Memphis(Elvis 7's) Should be a lot of fun.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Andy S at August 5, 2005 9:27 AM

Andy

Good luck with the Elvis 7s - what team are you with? Hopefully you'll see some of my players (from Arkansas State University) - if you need a "whore" - ask for Jarvis (just played with the Eagles 7s in Germany) or Jihad (great speed) or Mike (matter of fact, they're all pretty good!).
And tell them "Coach Pat sent you"!

Comment #27 - Posted by: Patrick at August 5, 2005 10:14 AM

Rest day? Nah, maybe this weekend sometime. For today, I just threw some stuff together.

1000m row
30 elevated pushups
800m run
30x35lb DB snatches (15/arm)
2000m stationary bike
30 pullups
20:40

For those in the know, are those distance segments about equivalent? The row/run/bike, that is. They took me roughly the same time each, and *felt* about the same in terms of energy needed for each, but I'd be curious what anybody says. Think I'll post this on the boards, too.

Laters,
Andy M

Comment #28 - Posted by: madsox at August 5, 2005 10:31 AM

Patrick,
I play for Nashville. I'm a prop, so 7's isn't my forte, but I have fun anyway. Amongst the rugby community I am better known as "Loaf." I played on the collegiate South team with Matt and Yves a few years back, and have coached(helped out when injured) Vandy off and on since I graduated. I was at Jonesboro last Fall when Vandy/ASU played, and was at the game this past Spring in Nashville.
Come next spring we'll see how much fitter I am after all this Crossfit I'm doing.

Comment #29 - Posted by: Andy S at August 5, 2005 10:58 AM

Crucify me if you must, but I thought that this was a great article on snatch and C&J technique and their applicability to sport motions by Dr. Fred Hatfield (Dr. Squat):

Comment #30 - Posted by: masterpayne at August 5, 2005 12:31 PM

Masterpayne,

What problem could we possibly have with this article? Did you see something in it contrary to CrossFit concepts or training? I didn't. Did I miss something?

Good read. Thanks.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Coach at August 5, 2005 12:54 PM

Beautiful scene Diddy...will have to race you to the top one day!

Comment #32 - Posted by: arob at August 5, 2005 1:04 PM

Doc (post way up above):

That looks like a fine workout, and very much in the CF spirit.

The other part of CF is to mix it up . . . that workout is long on high-rep stuff . . . if gone at fast and furious, it should build up a heck of an oxygen debt . . . that's good.

Just don't do that kind of workout every day . . . CF is about being ready for *anything* (as much as possible, anyway), so other workouts would have to be about max strength, and controlling your own body (gymnastics), and explosiveness (olympic lifting).

Comment #33 - Posted by: davidjwood at August 5, 2005 1:24 PM

Posting lines from Napoleon on CrossFit...LUCKYYYYY!

taking a break today, I took a spinning back kick to my ribs wednesday and its been bothering me the past 2 days, what made it hurt was that I walked right into it. I decided to do the WOD yesterday but I couldn't count the time, but I took so long since I had to stop because it was hurting ALOT in my ribs. I hope they're not broken.

Comment #36 - Posted by: Dan Orozco at August 5, 2005 3:05 PM

5k row: 19:40.5
work out on your day off? why not!

Comment #37 - Posted by: Sandy S at August 5, 2005 3:06 PM

Coach
I don't think that there is anything contrary to CrossFit doctrine in the article (actually, I know there isn't), I just wanted to avoid comparisons of who teaches technique better. Apparently I have encountered a rarity: a coach with no ego.
I learned some adjustments to my form on the scoop segment of the snatch and wish that I had known it before.

Comment #38 - Posted by: masterpayne at August 5, 2005 3:45 PM

dude, im on CrossFit...this is sweet. got a minute away from the 50 family members and im already missing CF, so...

Eva, that is awesome. i was (re)introduced to skiing this winter on Mt Rose, where i originally learned to ski at about 3 myself. unfortunately, my skiing career was somewhat shorter and less illustrious than yours.

Marianne, i wish...Fallonite. much much different...and in a bad way. do you and your husband workout at a gym or at home?? i dont think im gonna be around for too much longer, but itd be cool to workout with some fellow CFers rather than just get the 'look'.

Dan, what you dont see behind that smile is a broken heart.

Karl, thanks, bro.

Aaron, amazing.

arob, its on...but youll probably kick my ass...especially if i go with the boots and running socks combination again.

Comment #39 - Posted by: ediddy at August 5, 2005 3:53 PM

I can see my house!

Comment #40 - Posted by: Bud at August 5, 2005 5:08 PM

I cut my foot open last night, to add to my sprained thumb...

So, I "rested" today at CF North:

4 rounds of:
500m rows
20x 24kg kb high pulls
10x hypers
5x muscle ups

Time = 35:22

Muscle ups killed me...

Comment #43 - Posted by: dan santini at August 5, 2005 6:16 PM

ediddy,

We have a great home gym in which our entire family was very honored to have Eva train our son in last year in prep for the ski season. However, we've been having a few O-lift lessons down at American Iron Gym on Rock Boulevard (formerly Flex). We did get some strange looks for "three bars of death," but heck, what fun! So, any time you're in Reno, or when we head out to Fallon, let's hook-up and invite Pukie along! Any other Northern Nevada folks are welcome, too! Maybe we can plan a once-a-month group punishment!
