With a continuously running clock do one pull-up the first minute, two pull-ups the second minute, three pull-ups the third minute... continuing as long as you are able.
Use as many sets each minute as needed.

What do I do if on the 8th minute I can only do 7? Do I just do as many as I can every minute until I can't do any anymore?

You'd drop from the bar, rest briefly and get the 8th rep. You're finished when you either literally can't go anymore OR you reach the point that however many reps you're trying to do takes more than 1 minute. So...if you were (let's say) on round 20 and you got to 18 before the minute ended, but didn't get the last 2...well, now you're done.
yeah.I assume we stop when we can't progress the # of p-ups on any one minute.
I think this should be followed by the same process with dips..don't you?

todays WOD.
completed up to 14 minutes/14 pullup's.
aiming for 20 pullups/20 minutes but it was not to be today.
still a great workout none the less.
Finished 15 sets, with 12 towards the set of 16.
OK - I'm a beginner and I'll give this a shot, but it seems to reward the weak (like me): I can only do 8 at a time so it seems I'll be done around minute 12-14, where those of you who can do 20 or more will suffer: comments?
PS: Sam L; this will hurt you! Ouch! Call me if u want moral support, I'll do it around 8:30 AM, lake Meritt.

Hi all,
25 sets of 5 pullups and 5 dips: 20 minutes.
Got to 12 mins and was struggling, then training partner came round for a wing chun session. Liked this one alot, even though it was PUs.
Judo session later.
This was a simple test to separate the studs from the children. That being said, I got through round 10. Breezed through 8, then 9 and 10 snuck up and slapped me down.
Now I'll go play with my train set :(
Man...I was looking forward to doing 'Fight Gone Bad' today but you may have just changed my plans. I think the idea of following it up with dips sounds good too.

It's affectionately referred to as "seasoning the meat". Sounds like your back has got a little cayenne pepper on it.
Since I only got 10 rounds this AM I may have to go back after work and try it again, either to repeat 10 or possibly squeeze out minute 11.
My plan is to switch to jumping pullups when I max out on regulars. Ought to be able to go much higher. Turn this into an aerobi-fest. See how it goes...
Flight PT this morning: Rainy day so I wanted to get done kinda quick. CF warmup followed by 400m, tabata squats, 1200m.
I like timM's suggestion. I will be doing this tonight, first with pull-ups and then with dips.
500 pull-ups a week keeps the doctor away...
Got 16 with this one, with the 16th right after I hit the 16 minute mark, so I took it and gave up.
5x3 speed pull-ups afterwords.

from here out it should be no suprise that this WOD is difficult...learn from your predecessors...it gets hard quick. hittin it up post-work. until then i strategize and mentally prepare.
Still bringing the shoulder back up to speed:
-Stopped at 7 first time when shoulder started to ache.
-20 Minutes of interval sprints
-Then 3 sets of 3 pull-ups with no pain.

I'm disappointed in my time. I only managed 12 minutes with 12 towards the 13th. My right hand made a funny pop after 11 and kept hurting, so I wussed out. I'll remember this one and do it again soon.

Rested a few minutes and decided to make a push-pull as TimM suggested, so I repeated the WOD but with HSPU (wall).
Got 9 rounds + 6 towards the 10th when I could no longer support myself. The last 10-12 reps were all singles. The last ones were ugly, but the first several rounds were probably the best form I've ever done!!

Started with ring MUs using today's rep scheme: 7 rounds plus 5 more reps. All consecutives until round eight - three consecutives then two singles. Amazing how everything felt great until that round.
Five minute rest
WOD: 20 rounds + 18 reps for round 21. All consecutive Chinese pullups until round 17....then the breaks started. Sets of 7s and 5s became commonplace in a hurry.
I'll train with clubbells after work tonight if I'm still awake. These overtime hours are pushing me.
12 minutes. It was bizarre- everything unbroken and done before the 20-second mark, and then WHAM! struggling like all hell. Musta been gremlins. Will try again later.
Also repeated with dips- 11 minutes. Will also repeat...grrr... and some Tabata squats for penance.

Let's try and keep our own attitudes in check, and not be so fast to criticize the thinking of others. It's a real turn-off to see people getting picked on because of a simple question.

Subbed jumping muscle-ups on a straight bar for pullups, like Kelly, and then went home, unlike Kelly. Nice workout Mrs. Moore. You kick butt. My first 5 sets were done on a bar that allowed me about a 6" dip with hands on the bar. The next 7 sets were done on a bar that allowed me to get into a parallel squat before jumping.
13 rounds + 8 pull-ups, first 10 sets unbroken.
Then I did ring dips, 7 rounds + 3 dips.
I had the same experience a lot of other people seem to be having: no problem until it was suddenly impossible.

I did Mondays WOD yesterday and then followed it with a PR on pull ups of 41. Think it hurt todays performance.

This WOD does let us PU strugglers of the hook physically, but just reinforces the position of those who can't "pull their own weight" in CrossFit. Worse feeling than the killer workouts.

First 6-7 rounds I practiced handstands (freestanding) and L sits during the 'rest' period...big mistake...my grip was fried! Felt I could've done more if not for my grip.

Dave K - Chinese pullups use a lot of body swing and a kip. Check out the picture of Nicole doing a tap swing from a bar on June 14 2005....that's the body positioning. My shoulders have never been flexible enough to do them without pain and bracing until recently. I credit lots of joint mobility, bridging, OH squats, clubbell work and orthobionomy treatments for finally loosening my shoulders.

What Lisa forgot to mention is the fact that the dips were done on a straight bar {125 straight bar dips and 125 pull-ups (sets of five) in 20:00).

been practicing free standing handstands for the last week and managed to do one for 5 seconds before i fell over
tactical (very strict)pullups w/ 15lbs added got 11 minutes and 9 pullups in the 12th

40kg swings to 1 foot over eye level got 9 minutes and 4 swings in the 10th (they just stopped)
15 rounds even, and I agree it does creep up on you fast. Had my mind set for 20 and crashed hard on 14 and 15.
10 rounds + 8 on the 11th - total of 63. Amazing how fast everything went downhill after the 9th minute. Still feeling pretty swell about the effort - but have lots more progress to make.

Something Ive learned, plan your WOD, and dont do sit ups on a carpet, otherwise you get a realy nasty carpet burn on the top of your, er, cough, cough, um, B.U.M .

i have to be carefull changing in the locker room after doing situps w/o a mat. i've given myself a few really nasty looking burns.

-5 sets x 10 reps of floor pushups interstitially.
-4 sets of assisted HSPUs.
-3 sets of weighted dips (7, 10, 12)
-Body bag boxing practice.
-Warmup of hoops game of 21
11 rounds clean. Got 11th rep on 60th second.
20 rounds total, using jumping pullups for rounds 12-20. Ended up being a real sweat-fest. Highly recommend it.

Failed at 11. Was just too sore from the chin up marathon two days ago.

I just couldn't get my chin above the bar on that last rep and time expired. Did this one in 100 degree Dallas heat on a swingset. Started kipping around set 7 and the first 9 were unbroken. Grip fatigue killed.

tried the muscleup version to "warmup"...got 6 rounds + 4...and that 4th was baaaaarely

Pull ups with added 40 lbs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 unbroken, 11 broken, 12 really broken (went over by 12sec), followed immediately by
Dips with 40 lbs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,8,9,10,11,12,13, then 14 broken, 15 really broken. Still somewhat stronger pressing than pulling.
Then calf raises (more rehab for a prior injury), as well as tuck planche work, L-sits and GHR. Way easier (for me)than Nancy yesterday!

First 9 rounds were with a 2 inch rope draped over the pull up bar. I did those until my grip was shot and then did two sets of regular pull ups.
Finished with L-holds.
15 rounds on the rings, didn't have too much gas this am.

Didn't have access to a standard pullup bar, so I worked on the assisted pullup/dip machine w/o assistance.
Did first 3 with the wide grip. It was difficult to kip and the grip was too wide for me. (I'm only 5'6)
Did last 5 sets on grip with palms facing each other.
We did pull-ups and then dips.
John-9rnds pulls--8rnds dips. Joe--8rnds pulls--7rnds dips.
He is good motivation for me. I am 43 yr 185lb and he is 19yr 180lb. I am sore and glad its a rest day today.

Tried it with ring dips right after not as successful got 10 rounds + 2. I don't know if it was That I just did it with pull-ups or that I am weak. But I am going to go with Number one.
Also rode 16 miles on the bike with three kids in tow one on the back of the bike and two in a bike trailer for a total of 135 extra pounds. Hills ouch.

Between the squats last Friday and the DL on Saturday, my legs are just getting backe to useable. Missed the last two WOD's because of it. I really overdid the squats and was way beyond sore. Hope to be normal by Saturday to do Friday's WOD.

Made 13 rounds + 10 in rd 14. All pull-ups assisted w/ purple JS band. I need to build a pullup bar so I can work on a kip. I use the bar on the squat cage and kipping is a bit unstable.

Got through 11 minutes used bar under legs....still it was tough
I knew this was gonna be a butt-kicker, especially since it was my 2nd WOD, so by the time I finished it I had completely dropped the idea of following it with a dip progression (which does sound like a good combo).
Me, weak? um, yeah.
9 rounds complete +8 of the 10th minute. Finished with two assisted pullups "after the bell" just to round out the numbers, but SHEESH!
I'm tired now.

made it to round 10 before the kipping started, but lasted only until round 17 as per the prescribed workout.(finished up the 20 minutes with ten per round for three rounds). Total--20 min: 183 pull-ups

I sure 'hit the wall' quick. I was doing good until around #13 when I started to break up the sets.
It was my grip that finally did me in. Doing these on a wide square bar always taxes my grip faster than the other muscles. I not feeling it as much as I should (if I were to do this on my rings or a 1" bar).
Good addition to a 1.5 hour Martial Arts workout that was very kick-intensive.
Pullups : 15 rounds
Dips : 14 rounds
Both exercises unbroken until the 12th round, then things started getting hard...quick.

This is way harder than it looks.
Here is my break-down. The first number represents the time. 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8,8, 9-9, 10-6, 11-5, 12-4. I can't believe how much my strenght diminished on the last few set.
Did this in the morning, 10 rounds... way harder than it looks.
In the evening, put the girls (basketball team) through Karen, with a 10# ball. They goaded me into doing it after they were done, and I did it in 7:22. The best time by one of them was 12:54.
10 rounds...not bad considering I could not do a single PU just 6 weeks ago!

i did the workout today and succesfully completed 26 rounds the first ten were without any breaks.
7 honest rounds of singles + 2 rounds of jumped negatives - 8th round finished at 8:02 , 9th round of negs finished at 9:09.
A few days late and at least a few $'s short but WOD as RX'ed:
8 mins + 8 (unassisted deadhang to stop the knackered old gravitron from rocking)
and then dips
11 mins + 10
Certainly nothing special here but I was just wondering whether this workout deserved the name of CrossFit Motherf~@&ing ARMS DAY??!!

I felt great til after round 8, then a switch flipped and I barely able to pull. Coffee must have been too weak.
15 rounds, had to resort to "jumpers" for the last couple so figured that was it.
suprised how much i got owned. thought it would be easier than it was......suprise suprise.

Made it 2 13- 1-4 no help, varied grips each rep- machine weighted pull ups with kiping 80-90 lbs. 5-9. Then machine weighted pull ups with 100 lbs. help 9-13. My weight is 173- just starting Crossfit. Hope next time for better.

11 rounds during a bad thunderstorm with flooding.
Had water up to my calves (pullup bar's are outside at old base).
Made for an interesting trail run after the WOD.
9 rounds. karate ab work out 15x10, elliptical 20 min warm up 13/13.
6 mile run warm-up followed immediately by
19 rounds +15 pull-ups
18th round successful plus 7 of the 19th round. I would not have finished the 19th round anyway, but I immediately stopped when I tore off a silver-dollar sized chunk of skin off my left hand.
14 rounds. 1st WOD back after missing 7 straight...
7 rounds plus 5 reps (33 total). Did this on 7/1.
12 rounds complete.
First 10 were good to go with little kipping.
Last 2 rounds hit like a freight train.
