Wednesday 050629

With a continuously running clock do one pull-up the first minute, two pull-ups the second minute, three pull-ups the third minute... continuing as long as you are able.

Use as many sets each minute as needed.

Post number of minutes completed to comments.

what does this mean?

What do I do if on the 8th minute I can only do 7? Do I just do as many as I can every minute until I can't do any anymore?

Brandon...

You'd drop from the bar, rest briefly and get the 8th rep. You're finished when you either literally can't go anymore OR you reach the point that however many reps you're trying to do takes more than 1 minute. So...if you were (let's say) on round 20 and you got to 18 before the minute ended, but didn't get the last 2...well, now you're done.

OK - I'm a beginner and I'll give this a shot, but it seems to reward the weak (like me): I can only do 8 at a time so it seems I'll be done around minute 12-14, where those of you who can do 20 or more will suffer: comments?

This was a simple test to separate the studs from the children. That being said, I got through round 10. Breezed through 8, then 9 and 10 snuck up and slapped me down.

No access to a pull-up bar so I decided to try this exercise with push-ups... Had to stop after the 22nd minute... Quite pleased with 252 push-ups in 22mns.

In the 1st 8 rounds, sets were unbroken and under 20 seconds. I felt like a monster pullup-machine without an off-switch. Where's Matt G.'s friggin' weighted vest?!!!

Completed unit PT. Ran 2miles, didnt time it, but I did 20 pull-ups while waiting on everyone else. Then we went a did 100push-ups and 100 crunches. Was an OK PT session. Looks like I will be trying to convert some more folks.

500 pull-ups a week keeps the doctor away...

Got 16 with this one, with the 16th right after I hit the 16 minute mark, so I took it and gave up.

5x3 speed pull-ups afterwords.

Still bringing the shoulder back up to speed:

-Stopped at 7 first time when shoulder started to ache.
-20 Minutes of interval sprints
-Then 3 sets of 3 pull-ups with no pain.

I'm disappointed in my time. I only managed 12 minutes with 12 towards the 13th. My right hand made a funny pop after 11 and kept hurting, so I wussed out. I'll remember this one and do it again soon.

Running a day behind because I am doing the ME black box on my middle day, so the wife and I did Nancy together (something sounds a little off about that) Like Matt G. did it outdoors, 95 degrees, heat index > 100 degrees. NO FUN!

15 rounds + 14 towards the 16th...those 2 might as well been 100 away, they just weren't coming.

Rested a few minutes and decided to make a push-pull as TimM suggested, so I repeated the WOD but with HSPU (wall).

Got 9 rounds + 6 towards the 10th when I could no longer support myself. The last 10-12 reps were all singles. The last ones were ugly, but the first several rounds were probably the best form I've ever done!!

Started with ring MUs using today's rep scheme: 7 rounds plus 5 more reps. All consecutives until round eight - three consecutives then two singles. Amazing how everything felt great until that round.

Five minute rest

WOD: 20 rounds + 18 reps for round 21. All consecutive Chinese pullups until round 17....then the breaks started. Sets of 7s and 5s became commonplace in a hurry.

I'll train with clubbells after work tonight if I'm still awake. These overtime hours are pushing me.

12 minutes. It was bizarre- everything unbroken and done before the 20-second mark, and then WHAM! struggling like all hell. Musta been gremlins. Will try again later.

Subbed jumping muscle-ups on a straight bar for pullups, like Kelly, and then went home, unlike Kelly. Nice workout Mrs. Moore. You kick butt. My first 5 sets were done on a bar that allowed me about a 6" dip with hands on the bar. The next 7 sets were done on a bar that allowed me to get into a parallel squat before jumping.

This WOD does let us PU strugglers of the hook physically, but just reinforces the position of those who can't "pull their own weight" in CrossFit. Worse feeling than the killer workouts.

That being said, I pyramid-ed back down from 8 to 1, although some were jumping w/ negative hold.

Got some extra ring work in after.

First 10 rounds dead hang, last 10 rounds kipped.

All sets unbroken except for rounds 18,19,20.

First 6-7 rounds I practiced handstands (freestanding) and L sits during the 'rest' period...big mistake...my grip was fried! Felt I could've done more if not for my grip.

Thanks Bob and Matt. I really had my mind set on making 20 rounds; almost 21 was a bonus.

Dave K - Chinese pullups use a lot of body swing and a kip. Check out the picture of Nicole doing a tap swing from a bar on June 14 2005....that's the body positioning. My shoulders have never been flexible enough to do them without pain and bracing until recently. I credit lots of joint mobility, bridging, OH squats, clubbell work and orthobionomy treatments for finally loosening my shoulders.

tactical (very strict)pullups w/ 15lbs added got 11 minutes and 9 pullups in the 12th

rested 2 minutes then did

40kg swings to 1 foot over eye level got 9 minutes and 4 swings in the 10th (they just stopped)

thought i would do more so am really cross ( my arms, well they are over the moon that I had to stop at 12, they just didnt want to play any more.

this really burned my abs as well, those sit ups on monday really did their job ( but I had to sub yesterdays WOD for a 2 hour gymnastic session)

Something Ive learned, plan your WOD, and dont do sit ups on a carpet, otherwise you get a realy nasty carpet burn on the top of your, er, cough, cough, um, B.U.M .

I was thinking of Matt G and his vest when I started this workout!

Pull ups with added 40 lbs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 unbroken, 11 broken, 12 really broken (went over by 12sec), followed immediately by

Dips with 40 lbs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,8,9,10,11,12,13, then 14 broken, 15 really broken. Still somewhat stronger pressing than pulling.

Then calf raises (more rehab for a prior injury), as well as tuck planche work, L-sits and GHR. Way easier (for me)than Nancy yesterday!

First 9 rounds were with a 2 inch rope draped over the pull up bar. I did those until my grip was shot and then did two sets of regular pull ups.

Did first 3 with the wide grip. It was difficult to kip and the grip was too wide for me. (I'm only 5'6)

Tried it with ring dips right after not as successful got 10 rounds + 2. I don't know if it was That I just did it with pull-ups or that I am weak. But I am going to go with Number one.

Also rode 16 miles on the bike with three kids in tow one on the back of the bike and two in a bike trailer for a total of 135 extra pounds. Hills ouch.

Between the squats last Friday and the DL on Saturday, my legs are just getting backe to useable. Missed the last two WOD's because of it. I really overdid the squats and was way beyond sore. Hope to be normal by Saturday to do Friday's WOD.

I knew this was gonna be a butt-kicker, especially since it was my 2nd WOD, so by the time I finished it I had completely dropped the idea of following it with a dip progression (which does sound like a good combo).

Me, weak? um, yeah.

I sure 'hit the wall' quick. I was doing good until around #13 when I started to break up the sets.

It was my grip that finally did me in. Doing these on a wide square bar always taxes my grip faster than the other muscles. I not feeling it as much as I should (if I were to do this on my rings or a 1" bar).

Good addition to a 1.5 hour Martial Arts workout that was very kick-intensive.

In the evening, put the girls (basketball team) through Karen, with a 10# ball. They goaded me into doing it after they were done, and I did it in 7:22. The best time by one of them was 12:54.
