I love this workout...but I'm dreading doing it at the gym I work out at. The concept of "I'm using this, I'll be right back...and no, I don't want you working in" is way too foreign for most people here.

I only own 95kg so I couldn't do 105kg, not confident enough to control my bwt for the set up and set down for the floor press. Only have one bar which made this workout a little too easy with all the weight changes. On the last two rounds I used the 60kg for cleans since I was fed up of changing the plates, don't know why I didn't think of that earlier...

I had to improvise a bit...only two bars one is a 2inch thick PDA Adlemans axle which was set up for DLs off jackstands @ knee level for straight leg DLs
Ring dips instead of BWT BPS
Power hang cleans..
Anyway this was MEGABRUTAL

Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), I don't have access to a barbell and plates today. I do have my kettlebell, but that's it. So I just tried to do a workout that worked some of the same muscle groups in the same basic fashion.

I did the same rep sequence, but I used
54# kb swings
inclined pushups w/20lb backpack
54# one-armed kb snatches (10+10, 9+9, etc)

Obviously, it was a pretty far cry from "Linda," but hopefully, the next time she comes around, I'll be where I can give it a shot. It sounds like about the toughest workout I've seen in the month I've been doing CF.

First wod in one year+....adjusted weights for my age and condition but completed all reps in @ 30 minutes. DL 88 lbs,PC 88lbs, Easy Curl bar narrow grip bench press 80 lbs. Phew!

The last time I did this workout was on 7/18/2004. My bwt was 215 lbs and my time was 1:07:19. I am 5 lbs lighter now, but I am using the same poundages as before. I took almost a half hour off my time.

Pulled my lower back doing Friday's workout. Didn't do much to heal it and it's still tender and impeding flexbility, so not going anywhere near deadlifts or cleans today.

I did the WOD as follows:

Deadlift= 100,100,and no more...my back was fried.

Bench Press= 100,100,145,145,145,145,145,145,145,150.

I'm not even going to get into the long, protracted rant that I really need to get out...

The work was accomplished, in the correct order and at the recommended loads. Metabolically I'm sure I kept things humming...however, things were so fractured, and so many "placeholder" exercises (pushups, pullups, box jumps, etc.) were done to keep HR up while waiting for my stations (thank you, a**hat "bodybuilders") that the time is totally meaningless.

Ever have a workout where you leave the gym actively hating everyone else that works out there? That's me right now.

1:07:35. 245 Bwt. Had to make deadlift 1.25 x bodyweight, so 305/245/185. No belt, although I would have liked one. Back quite sore, but I made up a spray bottle of YBF solution, and it got me through. I literally did.

Feel your pain. last time I did "3 bars of death" I had the same problem. I usually curse the guys doing the "shrugs" with the oly bars!

Luckily, today I decided to play 8 games of 2-on-2 bball for 2 hours. One guy met Pukie!! I was fresh and ready to go after game 8! Linda has to wait until tomorrow.

Yeah, unfortunately Sunday here is a big day in the gym. Memphis is one of the most unhealthy cities in the US...during the week the gym is practically deserted. On the weekends, I end up way outnumbered by all the pseudo-bodybuilders and the moms and dads who decide it's time to bring the kids to the gym (I'm not joking) to teach them how to work out. Plus they don't open until 1pm and they close at 5pm...so everyone is trying to jam in at once. I really do try to be good-natured and share always...but occasionally I need to not share. Unfortunately that just doesn't compute when trying to explain to a "social lifter" why you're trying not to rest.

What really got my goat today was when I was asked by a group of 3 "social lifters" if they could work in on the bench (big surprise); I politely said no and tried to explain why (trying to go with zero rest). At this point the 3 of them each grabbed a 5lb. weight and standing no more than 3 ft. from the bench, began doing arm circles to "warm up" and shooting me dirty looks. That was on the round of 9. I decided I wasn't going to deal with that BS and just gave 'em the bench..I moved to DBs @ 85lbs. on a flat utility bench.

I'll go back to this WOD as an extra sometime in the next week or so and rip it out properly to see what I can do.

I threw the metabolic baby out with the bath water on this one. All exercises done with 105#, a little over 75% bw, and it still took about 45 minutes.

I'd also like to say thanks to the Glassmans and anyone who has made a contribution to CrossFit in anyway for making me have to go through this excruciating WOD for the betterment of me.

Had a bench, 1 bar, and all the plates I needed to myself, but couldn't get 3 set up, so a fair amount of time moving plates around. Figured out real fast that I wasn't going to be able to DL and clean what I thought I could.

I'm new to Crossfit - first week in. Although I'm in decent shape, this is such a welcome change from regular weight lifting! I was lamenting just last week about what to do when you have all the muscle you want but still need to go to the gym. Enter Crossfit, thank god! Did todays WOD with pretty light weight just to get the hang of these new excercises...great fun and challenge. Anyone have any great advice for a rookie?

Funny story - I saw a guy doing hang cleans, and assumed he was CRer - who else does them, right? Well he wasn't, but I told him to check out the site.

As I had guessed, my throat infection came back and bit me in the butt. I'm working through another, stronger round of antibiotics in an effort to catch this one before it gets as bad as last time, when I was hospitalized and they had to lance and drain my throat. Good times all around. Anyways, the drugs leave me dehydrated and give me digestive problems, so I'll be sticking to GTG stuff for at least another day.

Rocked out on pullups today, a set of 10 on the quarter of the hour...hit 250 so far.

I felt I could have pushed myself harder or raised the weight some, but it was still a great workout. Next time, I'll raise the weight and try to beat 28 minutes. My clean form needs a great deal of work as well.

***On a side note, I think it is AWESOME that MMA fighters train crossfit. I've loved the UFC since it began, and I love crossfit! The most intense and exciting sport coupled with the most intense and exciting training. Two great tastes that taste great together! Go Bobby Southworth! I was already a fan of his, but now that I've seen his picture here on Crossfit, I'm even more impressed. I now hope he wins the The Ultimate Fighter! Everyone should check it out tomorrow night on Spike TV!

Hi team,

Had to do major sub-age since my only equipment is a chin/dip station and heavy bag. I do have a 12lbs. bar that I practice my Olympic form with so I integrated that in as well.

SDLHP + Inverted Pullups
Pushups(rotated between Atlas, Regular, Elevated)
Cleans + Jump Squats

Rested 1min between each triple.

Can anyone tell me what the "CF Warmup" is? Is it the one described in the #8 CF Journal?

Also in the past week I read, per Crossfit recommendation, "The Zone" by B. Sears and two books on the paleolithic diet - "NeanderThin" and "The PaleoDiet". Awesome nutritional info. I implemented the foods/protocols 4 days ago and took starting BF/LBM/waist measurements. At the two week mark I'll do it again and post results.

Thank you Crossfit!

Had to only use one bar as I was in the Madison Ave New York Sports Club and so the majority of my 42 min time was spent changing weights

But thank you Crossfit because I did all sets unbroken at Deadlift 185#, Bench 135#, Power cleans 95# (bw 165lb). I can guarantee that three months ago, before I started Crossfit, this would have absolutely killed me.

What a suckfest my training partner both just moved from the east coast to one mile above sea level and have been doing crossfit for the two weeks we've been here and I love it but lastnite we took our wives out for a drink and it became a s**tload of drinks We did the WOD but it took about an hour and managed to keep pukie in his cage

Did this one today after deadlifting yesterday. Last time I did this WOD I couldn't do the reps or the weights. This time I just couldn't do the weight.

One of my training partners turned me on to this site,as I have to get in better athletic condition. This was my first crossfit WOD. It really kicked my arse. I didn't focus as I should on total time, as I was trying to catch my breath.

I haven't done any DLs in over 2 years, and as a hammer thrower, my coach only wants cleans, clean & jerks, and snatches done from the hang position just above the knee. I am looking to get down to 12% body fat. I am looking forward in a devilish way to this new training regime.

Attempted the "Three Bars of Death" got the "Three Bars of My Mother Yelled at Me and Made me Stop" because failed on rep 8 of BP 85# and had to get her to help me lift that puppy off me.

LOL.

Next time, I'll try it with 75#.

I did deadlifts at 205#, bench presses at 135#, and hang power cleans at 100#. Time 33:20, BW = 185#.

I didn't think the day would come when I could do Linda at full weight in under a week. Suprisingly, that came today. 2 hours at MMA first.

BTW=150.

Cleans off the floor at first rep and hung for the rest. Curl bar deads. Everything broken until 3.

I used a bodyweight of 140# (actual~165). Time: 29:25. Since the clock was ticking, I did power cleans.

Last time I tackled the 3BoD, I used a BW of 135 and it took me 70 minutes, so I've improved slightly since then. Thanks Crossfit.

Deads were the weak link.

This workout made me recall the line from Cool Hand Luke (I believe)"sometimes a man's got to know his limitations.

got through the round of 10 and 9 (by the 30 minute mark), then I couldn't move the deadlift any more and the bench was taken over by someone else (was down to singles), so I finished with a few more cleans and then skeddadled. I guess driving 14 hours over the course of the previous 2 days is not good for the body. Next time I'll learn to lighten the load further and not let my ego run (then ruin) the workout.

"3 Bars of Death" became "1 Sandbag of Death". Used a 30 KG sandbag for the whole lot, did front squats, push-ups with sandbag on back (I hate these, it's as though someone's pushing down on your back with a giant foot) and sandbag cleans. Had to keep stopping to retie sandbag.

This is my first WOD! Sheesh! Dont know if I'll ever be able to do those reps at the Rx'd weight (except for the Cleans), so I adapted:

BW 115
weights should have been: DL 172, BP 115, C 86

Does broken sets mean, you had to stop between sets? If so, some were broken to change weights(that I was having a hard time keeping track of about halfway through! I was getting delirious!)

Veronica: Yes, "broken sets" generally means the exerciser had to stop to catch breath / recover (due to either strength or metabolic failure) before continuing. Most CrossFit prescriptions should ideally be done continuously . . . purists will say that even a half-second re-grip is a foul.

That said, most of us have to break it up somewhere. I certainly do . . . all my sets above 5 reps were broken on this workout.

Did this late on a rest day, kept it light and fast and tried to improve on form.

BWT - 190
DLs - 225 1st 10, then dropped to 205 to improve form and speed. Half sets broken
BP - 225 (*on Universal type machine)unbroken
PC's - 105, unbroken

Lost bench on 3 count, kept clock running and did 2 X 5 deep dips while waited and an extra 5 when it became free.

BP=65kg = 1xBW
CL=48.75 = 0.7558xBW

Only done this WOD once before (prior to it having a name) back in Jul last year. Then I could not complete it. Previously I used:

DL=1.33xBW
BP=0.8xBW
CL=0.65xBW

and stopped after the round of 5 in 1:04:48.


So this was a *vast* improvement. BP is still the killer with this WOD. The deads were manageable, cleans went up like they were nothing, but I had to grind out the BP in sometimes singles.

Posting for later reference - actually did the WOD 2/28:
BW 175lb, but I'm a bit on the weaker side, so the weights were:
DL - 190
BP - 150
Cleans - 120

Time: 27:58. Ouch. Most of the cleans were in sets of "1 or 2 hang cleans, then from the deck" but not horrible form.
