Congrats, Josh!

Nice picture on "The Patch." Too bad they didn't get a picture of Athena trying to match you on the hurdles.

What are the USAW nationals? Looks like an obstacle course, they're loads of fun!

Im training the juniors in our unit before they go off to their assessions course. I have formulated a training program based on Crossfit foundations. Id like to get some outside criticisms of this plan from folks who have done this a lot more than i have. If you wouldnt mind checking the program out, Ill happily email it to you for review. Thanks

Jim,
USA Weightlifting National Championships. Weighing under 85 kilos, Josh had to total 270 kilos to qualify. That translates to something like 117.5kg (260 lbs.) in the snatch and 152.5kg (335 lbs.) in the clean & jerk. Big accomplishment especially considering Josh really didn't start competing until after he got out of college. Plus, at one point Josh was stuck at 95kg in the snatch for about a year and a half.

Way to go Josh that is an amazing fete of skill and strength hope to meet you someday, can't make the february date but maybe during the summer.

Comment #5 - Posted by: R at January 20, 2005 3:07 PM

One thing you'll find out about Josh when you meet him is that he's verrry humble (read: quiet). But, he always willing to help correct form and lend advice! That and the man's an animal on the benchmarks!

Ben - Check http://www.mitymous.net/weights/xfitfaq.htm for a listing of the "older women" and the November 2004 CFJ gives the new editions.

Josh, It was great hearing the story at the Vista Clinic about your qualifying for the finals. You are an awesome athlete. Will look for the announcement of you taking the top spot in the competition.

This site is full of amazing people and exceptional athletes!

Comment #9 - Posted by: LauraR at January 20, 2005 9:20 PM

Ben, there was a post recently on the message boards where all the ladies were listed. You might want to try searching there.

Twenty inches of snow predicted this weekend. Training opportunities abound. Shoveling, pushing, carrying. I'm good to go.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Bob Long at January 21, 2005 5:19 AM

Could I get a student discount to get certified? Please?

Comment #12 - Posted by: Heath at January 21, 2005 5:53 AM

To one of the experienced crossfitters, was looking for a good woman today. Is "Angie" 100 of each before moving on to the next exercises or can you break it up into sets of 10 or 20? Thanks in advance...

Comment #13 - Posted by: davds at January 21, 2005 6:21 AM

davds, first one is correct, do 100 pull ups then 100 push ups...and so on.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Graham at January 21, 2005 6:42 AM

Josh

Way to go, what a feat. Josh also holds a full time strength job, which requires him to stand all day and demo. AWESOME!!

Good Luck!!!

Congrats Josh!

I am going enjoy this rest day. Shoulders have been aching from trying handstands every day, every chance I get.

Comment #16 - Posted by: brian_g at January 21, 2005 6:52 AM

Any ideas how Josh integrates crossfit wod's with o-lifting?

Sorry to dissapoint but don't look for me to win at nationals. Last year I was 11th and I'm hoping to crack the top 10 this year. Oscar Chaplin is the top guy in my weight class, he is a former goodwill games gold medalist and an olympian. I think he's got at least 100kilos more than my best total.
Thanks to everyone for all the compliments. You guys made my day.

Lincoln,
Thanks for info, WOW

Josh,
nice work on the qualifiers.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Jim Howe at January 21, 2005 9:09 AM

HQ this morning.
Med Loop (800m), 21 "med ball throw downs"--sort of like a reverse KB swing, and the 20lb med ball doesn't bounce. 21 35lb DB thrusters, 21 pull-ups, 21 dips, medium loop.

Repeat for a total of three times. Running needs more work, although it's getting better.

Comment #20 - Posted by: Thompson at January 21, 2005 9:37 AM

Made up a fitness challenge for myself today for testing a few times a year:
1 mile run (6:33)
21 pull-ups (10,6,5)
21 OHS w/ 65# (15,6)
TOTAL TIME=11:38
I have not run the mile since 9/28/04 (time 6:42) and have only run the 400m or 800m sprints that are specified in the WOD (5 and 10Ks on the C2). Happy with the 9sec drop! May need to increase the OHS to 75 or 80# next time...

Additional Congrats to Josh! Great to see/meet you in Vista.

Coach says rest day; I'm taking a rest day! Achilles' tendon is killing me and my joints are starting to listen to the Achilles!
As I said, I have a spa and I know how to use it!

the amazing thing to me about hitting that qualifing total is that fact that I had only been back into o-lift training for 2 or 3 weeks. I was injured and was just doing crossfit workouts in Nov/Dec. It was my 1st meet back.
how i'm working crossfit in now... basically it's based on how hard of a workout coach burgener has given me. If it's an easy day I may do the WOD as posted. Most days though I make up my own mini version focusing on upperbody and kettlebells because Coach B ussually hammers my legs.
for example yesterday after my o-lift workout i finished myself off with 21,15,9 dips w/24k kettlebell and glute-ham raises done in 4:24 then went out and did 15 min of agility training

Comment #24 - Posted by: josh everett at January 21, 2005 1:32 PM

Josh - how does this differ (if it does) when your not prepping for a competition? Do you do more WODs as written or do you keep it the way you are doing now?

Comment #25 - Posted by: beth at January 21, 2005 1:47 PM

Josh,
I failed to congratulate you this weekend. Probably was too busy trying to pick my jaw up off the ground after watching your performance on Fran. Congratulations hope you make the top ten.

Comment #26 - Posted by: Jeff at January 21, 2005 2:27 PM

Thanks for the reply Josh. That makes a lot of sense.
I'm currently in the process of opening a 'crossfit type' facility in the UK and as such am free to train whenever. I'd been toying with the idea of o-lifting on days 1 and 3 of the crossfit cycle while performing the (sometimes toned down)wod as my gpp.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

PS. Good luck at the nationals

Comment #27 - Posted by: Keith at January 21, 2005 2:39 PM

Josh, no disappointment...My W/L knowledge is about NIL so just to know you are doing very well and moving up is great. Cheering ya from the NOOB section! ;)

And having had to follow you and Greg at Fran, well, that was more than an honor and I keep bragging about it to anyone who will listen.

Took two involuntary days off after a week of training Crossfit/BJJ/MMA. Then, on Wednesday, I had an eighteen hour work day involving many fences jumped, a foot chase and a pretty swollen knee. I can't believe how quickly my knee has recovered. I can only imagine this program has a lot to do with that. Thanks. That's all the gushing for now. Did the back squats and last week's push presses. Just finished. Posted there.

Where in the UK are you setting up shop?

Heath - I found this on the seminars page:

"Contact us at seminarsandcertificates@crossfit.com for scheduling or questions."

Comment #31 - Posted by: Beth at January 21, 2005 5:59 PM

I'm one day behind now, so I did back squats today...

Warmup: samson, OHS broom (DEEP), situps, back ext., pullups (dead hang), dips, Handstand stuff (press-ups, holds, HSPU--deeper)

Back Squats:
3x 145lb (bw)
2x 165
2x 175
2x 185
1x 225 (the bar stayed at 185, but I added a 40lb backpack)
1x 225 (knee felt cranked, so I took off weight)
1x 215
1x 215
1x 235 (probably a pr, but I'm not keeping track)

Cooled down with:
2x 15ft rope climb w/ 40lb pack
Then set up a 35lb kettlebell and did OHS 10x each arm and snatch 20x alternating arms

Congrats Josh on Qualifying for the Nationals.

Today I ran a jogathon I got 11 1/2 miles in 1hr 45minutes.

Comment #34 - Posted by: Connor at January 21, 2005 10:10 PM

4 rounds of:
800 Meter run
185# deadlift X 15
Bodyweight Bench X 15
Would have done 5 rounds but Mikki insits that the kids karate class shouldn't see me like that. As well as the parents will not want to try CrossFit. So wrapped it up with 3 sets of Snatch Balance.

Comment #35 - Posted by: Jeff at January 21, 2005 10:16 PM

Hi Simon.
Setting up in a place called Londonderry in Northern Ireland. Pretty much good to go now with purchasing a c2 being the final chore.

Comment #36 - Posted by: Keith at January 22, 2005 1:05 AM

Congrats Josh!
