"Chelsea"
Set up before a clock, and every minute on the minute perform 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats. Can you continue for thirty minutes? Twenty minutes? How about 10? Post results to comments. If you fall behind the clock keep going for thirty minutes and see how many rounds you can complete.
If you've finished the workout before this time add +1 to each exercise, i.e., 6 pull-ups, 11 push-ups, and 16 squats each minute, and see if you can go the full thirty minutes. Weve seen +3. Any +4s?

Nice. I'm wondering where that was taken.
Two ladies and a 10K in one cycle. I guess it will make Rest Day all the more sweet.
Well this should be interesting since Chelsea was my first ;)
Regular/Generic Chelsea 5/10/15 on the rings X 30sets/30mins
15 rounds new record. Did this one the first time in August and only did 3 rounds. So I very happy tonigt can't wait until next time to get 20 or more rounds.
I forgot to say that is 15 rounds in 15 minutes.
Completed 30rds/30min, however I had to drop pullups to 3 per at 10 minute mark with major cheating/poor form at that. My first "Chelsea", look forward to improving next time.
First 4min = 4 rounds.
Last 16min = 11 rounds, assist on pullups.
Had to stop. Couldn't catch my breath.
Look forward to next one to try and improve.
30 minutes, 30 rounds, as prescribed.
I did my pullups with two ropes, rather than a bar (one gym-rope in each hand, much tougher I think).
Next time, I'm doing 6,11,16 - with a bar.
Completed 30 minutes as prescribed. NO CHEATING on the pull ups !!!Improved each time did Chelsea.First time was 10 min then 25. Next will add 1+.
Chelsea +4 for 28 rounds,
No breaks on anything but getting very close with the pushups. Stopped at 28 due to the most intense side stitch I've ever encountered - went to start the pullups for round 29 and found I couldn't straighten my legs. That didn't leave me real happy because even at round 28 I still had 15 seconds remaining to the top of the minute ... Chelsea +4 should have been mine. Chelsea will not win the next time we meet.
10 minute rest in the fetal position.
1x20 15# cb swings
3x3 15# cb CTO from the floor, hold for one second, press out and hold for one second to flag position, return to order and park on the floor. Real tight and sure with the right hand, shaky and weak with the left.
3x3 10# cb pistols using the same CTO-flag-CTO scheme while in the bottom position of the pistol. Right side strong, left side a lot of fun to watch.
3x3 10# cb hand to hand contour catching drills, tossing the club from hand to hand while catching in different positions along the club.
Kelly,
You are a machine. That is all I can say. :)
Awesome work Kelly!
A paltry 17 rounds at +1. I knew it would be hard but I didn't think it would be that hard.
That is an amazing surfing photo.
Can anyone tell me how big that wave is?!?
I would guess that is a 40 foot wave. It looks to be about 6-8 X overhead.
I take that back. I forgot to account for the fact that he is crouched. I would put it in the low 20 foot range. Still an impressive feat though, especially since it looks like he actually paddled into it. Much larger and he would need to be towed in.
Thanks for the insight Rajesh.
Excuss my lack of knowledge but can you elaborate on what it means to be towed in?
I've never heard of that.
thanks!
TK
I'm recovering from a bad cold/sinus infection, so I thought I'd take it "easy" and only do 5 rounds. I did 5 rounds, but it wasn't easy.
30 rounds in 30 min. Got it this time.
Last Chelsea on 8/16 (I think) I got 13 rounds before I fell off the pace, but I continued and got 25 rounds in 30 min. Doing the full Chelsea this time seemed far easier than the partial one last Aug!
7 in 7 (2 more than last time), and then 6 more in 20 min total.
5.9 rounds for time (2 seconds from completing the 6th round!). The, 12 more in the remainder for a total of 18. My first Chelsea! Ya, baby!
My first time with "Chelsea" 20 rounds in 20 min. It wasn't too bad at first...but she sure did sneak up on me in the later rounds...WOW...I'm humbled.
YEAH YIPPY WOOHOO!!!!!!
I finished chelsea finally as perscribed i made it to 23 rounds and wanted to quit well as you can see i didn't. I quess next time it is plus 1.
5 rounds in 5 minutes, 19 total in 30 minutes
Wait - if you do every minute on the minute for 30 minutes, and you start at 00:00, isn't that 31 rounds?
Counting the 00:00 round AND the 30:00 round, I did thirty one rounds today. How was everyone else counting?
Nic,
My understanding is that once the timer hits the 30 minute mark, the WO is over. There is no round from 30:00-31:00.
....first time doing chelsea....
.....+ 1 for 30'21"...ran over 21" and had to double up in round 28 and 30 to get close to time...
....believe +4 is a possibility...have to test the water and work at it...
.... don't know though didn't have much left in the tank...
....enjoyed it......thanks.
30 rounds in 30 minutes as prescribed.
Kelly your my hero. This was my first time for this workout. It took me 40 seconds to complete each round, with just 20 seconds recovery. +4 seems along way away for me.
Chelsea
12 rounds every minute on the minute (previous was 13)
20 total rounds completed in 25min
maybe its just me, but it seems like +1 should be 6 pullups, 12 pushups, and 18 squats. the +0 reps are each multiples of 5 (5*1, 5*2, and 5*3), so wouldnt this mean that when you try +1 you ought to be trying +1*1, +1*2, and +1*3? im probably reading too far into it, but it just seems to me that +1 squat isnt an equivalent increase to +1 pullup. thoughts?
29 rounds in 30 minutes. Close but no cigar. I finished the 29th round in 29:48. Next time I'll nail 30.
I could only do 4.5 rounds; I am completely spent from yesterday's 10K run and still sore from Linda. Nevertheless, I am already kicking myself for giving up so quickly :( Next time, I predict a drastic improvement.
12 rounds on the minute plus 6 more rounds every other minute - total time = 24:11; total rounds = 18. Stopped when the dry heaves came.
Surprisingly, I'm up two rounds (from 10 to 12) since the last time in spite of a sore throat and feeling "icky" that made me doubt my resolve. Nice way to end the week.
well, i took my own advice and tried a proportional +1 Chelsea w/ 6 pullups, 12 pushups, and 18 squats...wow. my goal going in was 20 rounds. when i reached 20, i knew i had more in me, so i decided to push on to 26. started regretting that decision on the 22nd round. by the time i reached 26, i thought i would die but was so close to 30 i figured i might as well go 'til i puke. got the 30 and then collapsed. not quite fetal but definitely out of commission. heart rate after finishing was somewhere between 160 and 170 bpm. after resting a bit, i got up and moved around until i realized i needed to lay down. when i finally got up close to 20 min after finishing the wod, i was seriously dizzy and thought i was gonna puke. no puke though and im happy i didnt quit.
also, i did a new warmup...rounds of: 10 burpees, 10 wall ball shots w/30# med ball , and 100 count jump rope.
Awesome job, ediddy. I am also an advocate of the proportional increase/decrease. Now off to put theory to practice.
ediddy is certifiable.
Nice effort.
16 in 16.
23 total.
I could have gotten 25 but I had to field a phone call in the middle of my WOD. I know, leave the cells away but I really needed to get this call. And this is while recovering from tendinitus.
I didn't get sick so I know I wasn't pushing as hard as ediddy. Next time I want 30.
My boss cheats. He can do 30 but won't add 1 or so.
Rounds of 6,11,16; 20 in 20! Added the plus one after two complete as prescribed. Will go as Rx for longer next time, the added rep this time was noticeable.
thanks guys...i really do appreciate the encouraging words
Did Chelsea +1 for thirty minutes,(the old fashion way).
Ediddy..I have to agree with you, +1 may be more accurate as a proportional increase. May God have mercy on your soul.
Did this with Jeff Webb, neither of us would have started without the other being there.
6 in 6, 13 in 30. Pullups as always are slowing me way down. Gotta lose this adipose.
Did this plus-1 all the way through. Simply bowled over by Kelly's performance. K, it seems you have reached some zone where others can only visit dimly, through the glass. Next time I will struggle for plus-2, inspired by your example.
I did 13 rounds in 30 minutes. The pullups really killed me.
Terry K:
"Towed in" means that the surfer gets into position to ride the wave by being towed behind someone using a jet ski (usually). You need to do this when the waves are too big to paddle out through, and/or coming in so big and fast that the surfer can't develop enough speed to catch them using paddle power alone. The jet ski tows the surfer into position and then gets the heck out of there (preferably before wave begins to break); the surfer is left to live or die on his own skills.
According to "nick" (2nd poster abvoe), the photo was taken at "Maverick", a surf break off the Northern California coast in the general vicinity of Half Moon Bay (just south of San Francisco). It's famous for occasionally having VERY large (only-the-best-in-the-world-should-be-out-there kind of) surf. (Seriously, a guy named Mark Foo, arguably one of the best big-wave surfers in the world, drowned there in 1994 . . . waves up to an (estimated) 90 feet have been reported (but probably not surfed)).
Jake (the guy in the photo) has some serious cojones to be out there.
+3 for the first 10 minutes/rounds, then dropped to +2 and went on for the remaining 20 minutes/rounds. Greetings from New Orleans by the way. What does Matt do when down the street from the French Quarter...go out and drink, or go and workout? He goes and works out. Yes, I am insane.
Ediddy, nice theory. I'll have to try it that way next time.
Finished "Chelsea" with some jump pullups after round 20. Would go for 3 reg pullups the 2 jump pullups to finish.
towing is using a PWC for assistance into the wave. crazy workout. first time 24 rounds
I think chelsea needs to be renamed for somesoe else & we all know who she is!
well i think I found that thin line before overtraining. last time I did chelsea i got all rounds in 25 seconds each round. but instead of doing the 10k yesterday i did another kettlebell workout,I am dying from pain right now. tried the WOD and could barly fight the pain to do 3 rounds. anyone who has looked at my previous numbers nows I can crank out 20+ pull ups a set on a good day, today barely got the 5 on each round. took the day off and ate a stack of pancakes instead. yum love those kashi organic pancakes. later
First five minutes: 5/10/15 but just barely.
Last 25 minutes: 2/8/10.
Reed,
excuses excuses...
"pushed a bulldozer yesterday"
"had to pull out a tree stump with nothin' but a rope and pro-keds"
We've heard 'em all.
Did anyone tell you to skip the run?
Do the WOD you wus.
Now I'm gonna go whine about how much I hurt to someone that doesn't frequent crossfit.
Well, if further evidence is needed of what a kick-ass program Crossfit is, here 'tis.
On 9/20, I completed 10 rounds in 29:20.
This time I made 14 rounds in 29:15, and kept pace with the clock for the first two minutes (I wasn't able to do it at all last time). That's roughly a 40% increase in my output in 6 weeks (and I was down with a respiratory tract infection for two of those weeks).
Oh, I'm still doing assisted pullups, but my assistance weight is dropping steadily.
This program is amazing.
Ediddy,
We seem to be on the same wavelength. After the last Chelsea, I mentioned trying the +1,+2,+3 scheme, and when Chelsea rolled back around I had to put up or shut up.
Completed full 30 minutes at 6, 12, 18, then finished with a Tabata crunch set and some HSPU practice. I don't know if I'll be up for +2,+4,+6 next time...
Wife: full 30 minutes with jumping pull-ups and push-ups on knees.
Kelly, you are our hero. We can't even imagine 28 rounds at +4. You've got it next time for sure.
Oooh boy!
30min Chelsea done by team of three- myself and two other coworkers here at the station. We've been doing the WODs since the end of September and here are our round amounts.
Kawika bw250# - 21rds
Victor bw247# - 28rds
Leroy bw170# - 31rds
Late post due to being on call.
Did Chelsea +4 for 30 minutes.
Had rest times of about 18 seconds per minute.
+5 is going to be tough
Ran 1 mile
followed immediately by 19 rounds in 20 minutes
did chelsea on friday
completed first 28 rounds at 6/11/16
last two rounds at 8/13/18
i probably should have gone after 7/12/17 for all 30 rounds. had trouble last time with 5/10/15 and thought i would have a lot of trouble with +1, but was pleasantly surprised.
First 10 rounds in 10 min and 10 more in 15 min. (20 rounds in 25 min). Bad but an improvement from last time.
30 rounds in 30 minutes. Great workout.
A day behind.
Only 7-rounds in the one-minute cycle.
Total of 17 in 30-minutes.
Sounds pretty crummy until compared to my first Chelsea on Sept 20th. Then I did just 1-round in one-minute cycle and eleven total.
Good improvement for six weeks of CF, don't ya think?
30 rounds 30 min
+1
second time to do this
Did this today. Managed 11 rounds (on time), 1 more than 040920. Wife did 10 rounds. For some reason, this particular routine wipes me out.
A little late posting this.
4 rounds right off the start as rx'd. Went over a minute on the 5th. After that I just tried to keep it all consistent. Did 15 total.
Rather pleased with myself on this one. This girl was my first time doing Crossfit about a month and a half ago and I couldn't even do one as rx'd and did like maybe 10 rounds total.
instead of doing +1,
i opted for a different mod:
5 pullups
10 bar dips
15 overhead squats (+45 lbs)
got through 10 rounds in 10:14
the OHS really slowed things down.
rest intervals were only about 8 seconds per round.
followed up with sunday's back squat wod.
This Chelsea was better than the last.
13 rounds in 20 minutes.
Felt good, but my speed means no breaks between sets. I just keep plugging along.
Oh, last Chelsea was 11 rounds and lots of gasping.
I miss read the WOD and thought it said 20 min instead of 30 min. I pulled off 17 rounds in 20 min.
Little late on this post. The first time I did Chelsea, it was about the 3rd WOD I had ever done. I did 19 rounds in 19 min. This time I did all 30 rounds with no broken sets (had to break pullups last time after about 15 rounds) and did +2 and +5 on the last two sets.
Did 9 rounds in 9 minutes, after that I had to slow down and finished with 18 rounds in 30 minutes.
This was terrible. I feel really sick.
I did +1 to 20 minutes, then began failing. Had to sit out two full rounds and two half rounds. Jim Howe cranked the whole 30 mins +1.
2nd chelsea and only got 7 full rounds, 1 more than last time. i think the three bars are to blame as I was sore as hell. Did finish all squats and push-ups to 30 min.
5 rounds
Sad effort, last time I got 11 rounds.
I started the morning motivating myself for Chelsea+1. Linda was telling me otherwise. Did plain old Chelsea and finished thirty minutes. Ring pullups with a variety of ugly kips or no kips.
-D.
I did this wod instead of squats for Sunday because my back is still sore from deadlifts.
1st 5 rounds one per minute for 5 minutes
2nd 7 rounds in the next 15 minutes
My lungs were tight and had to stop to be able to catch my breath after 20 minutes. Next time I will do 30 minutes total.
wow, tough week. I did linda wednesday...no where near making it through with all that weight. Ended up looking like this (I weigh 140)
205 deadlift x10x9
95 Bench X10 X9
95 clean X10 X9
135 Deadlift X8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
85 Bench X8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
85 Clean X8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
Chelsea was rough...did 11 rounds in 20 minutes, and then 10 minutes of rowing. The full 30 min wasn't happening.
I did a modified Chelsea (ring rows instead of pullups) on Saturday.
30 rounds in 30 minutes.
Last attempt was with Jumping pullups and I barely finished 10 rounds. Progress!
Next attempt will be with std pullups.
18 rounds in 18 mins then 4 more rounds inside 30 min-stopped clock at 29.58!
this is a big improvement.
I started crossfit in july, did first chelsea in august, did 10 rounds then cramped up rolled over and died. now i am born again. last one in sept i did 11 in 11 then 3 more to finish at 17 mins. pretty good improvement!
I was already a fit bjj blue belt when i started this stuff, but now i feel fantastic!!!
4 rounds of:
5 pull-ups
10 push-ups
15 squats
Time= 4:11
Last time I did 3 rounds in 3 minutes. I continued last time but not this time because I remember how bad my form got after those initial rounds. Dissapointing. I don't know how much blame I can place on my present full body soreness. Seems like I just didn't get any better at these.
7 rounds as Rx. Limited mainly by muscular endurance on pushups and dry heaves at end of round 7. Should have just kept going to 30 min to get max # of rounds possible but the nausea put me down for about 10 minutes! Just kind of snuck up on me.
Lousy day.
12 rounds on schedule.
3 more rounds on 1:15
Quit there while I still felt OK. (Yeah, I wimped out.)
