How many reps on the HS-Cleans? Or is this another suprise?

Comment #2 - Posted by: Dan S. at August 26, 2004 4:04 AM

I wish I looked that happy when I do pullups :)

Comment #3 - Posted by: Patrick Walsh at August 26, 2004 9:57 AM

No way--33 and 23! That's amazing. Y'all are my heroes!

Thanks for the inspiration and the great photo.

Hey Dan-

Slightly different format:
95-pound Hang squat clean, 15 reps
Robb

Comment #5 - Posted by: Robb at August 26, 2004 2:27 PM

Thanks Rob. Though it was fixed as of this afternoon, when I logged on at the end of my day (0400 this am, I work nights) the number of reps were not specified on the HSC's. I was gonna keep them at two or three if left to my own desires.

Rats.

What sort of 'pull-ups' were these girls doing?
Any chance of a video showing either girl doing the number claimed?

Comment #7 - Posted by: Mike at August 27, 2004 2:35 AM

a day early. doing the pullup wod tomorrow.

4 full rounds, plus the 5th round of hang squat cleans in 20:00. completed the 5th round in 21:38.

added some o-lifts afterward for practice:
c&j 3x135/2x155/1x185
snatch 2x95/2x115/2x135 (full squat)

Comment #8 - Posted by: JC at August 28, 2004 1:38 PM

Day Early.

Finished 9 HSC's into my 6th round. Five full rounds completed. No breaks on ring dips or (unanchored, legs extended) sit-ups. Broke the HSC's down into two sets, for the first two rounds, and three (5/5/5) for the rest. Nearly visited with pukie again. HSC's really make me want to vomit, it seems.

5 rounds

Comment #10 - Posted by: Onur at August 29, 2004 4:59 AM

7 complete rounds. Need to work on HSC technique. Finally started "getting it" towards the end.

Comment #11 - Posted by: Todd H at August 29, 2004 7:30 AM

4 rounds + 15 Hang Squat Cleans.

All ring dip sets broken; all other sets intact. HSC form got pretty nasty on the latter rounds; the knee dip kept getting smaller and smaller.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Ross Hunt at August 29, 2004 7:33 AM

6 rounds + 5 HSC - 65# HSC, ring dips and glute-ham situps

My grip and traps are sore and fatigued from yesterday's pullups. I tried to hang on to 95#, but I didn't have enough grip to hang on to the bar. So 65# it was, and that was plenty painful.

The first three rounds of ring dips I turned the rings out at the top of each rep and worked to stay off the straps. I tried to do the same on the fourth round but managed to fall off the rings due to fatigue...I decided to finish the remaining dips without turnouts and using strap contact.

Glute-ham situps, all below parallel. I was trying for a 45 degree angle to the floor, but I think I was closer to 20. I don't know how people manage to touch their hands to the floor doing these...

Congratulations to Annie and Cill - outstanding!

Comment #13 - Posted by: kelly at August 29, 2004 8:33 AM

My first WOD in awhile due to a move and sickness. Didn't have a place to do dips close by so I sub'd 24 pushups with feet elevated. Could only do 3 full rounds and 5 more HSCs. I really hit a wall around 13:00.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Mark G. at August 29, 2004 10:26 AM

four rounds with a min to spare.
the hang squat cleans felt a bit smoother than last week but i have a long way to go on these.

Comment #15 - Posted by: swartz at August 29, 2004 10:54 AM

7 rounds and Pukie was hanging around by the 6th round but didn't actually come into the room!

only used 25 pounds for HSC cause I am nursing a hip/leg injury. Still - that seemed an excellent weight for my current fitness level as I could do all the required reps and form didn't start to get messy until the last few of the third round and then I could start each set again with good form. Dips supported. I dream of the day when my dips and pull ups aren't supported anymore!

Comment #16 - Posted by: Beth at August 29, 2004 12:37 PM

BW = 218.8 @ ~19% BF
3 complete rounds up to 12 ring dips on 4th, 21:35 to complete.
HSC by 8's & 7's, dipd by 3's, situps bent knee feet anchored unbroken
I dream of the day some dude weighing 205 & 12% BF can do these WOD's for me.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Jim C at August 29, 2004 12:56 PM

I forgot; Glute-ham sit-ups, Jim Bakers. These took a lot longer than normal sit-ups. (~60 seconds plus instead of ~30 seconds)

Kelly - I can only do full Glute-hams because I'm about 6' tall. I still just barely touch the floor - fingers or knuckles.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Ross Hunt at August 29, 2004 1:19 PM

I did a different workout today.

I did a pryamid combo of pull ups and push ups. I also did 3 sets of 8 reps of deadlifts.
In addition I did some crunches, bike crunches, leg flutters and medicine ball twist.

A very good workout.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Ash Rogers at August 29, 2004 1:21 PM

3 complete rounds using 45# dumbbells.

Bodyweigth 148lbs.I think 90# was too much for me but I managed. Ring dips and sit-ups were unbroken.

Comment #20 - Posted by: Cesar. at August 29, 2004 2:02 PM

Thank you Ross - that makes sense. Sometimes I forget that most equipment is created with the "average" size person in mind. My bench is pretty high; I can do reverse hypers on it without dragging my toes on the ground.

5 Rounds in 18 minutes

Comment #22 - Posted by: Steve M at August 29, 2004 2:36 PM

4 Rounds

Not bad when it's 100 degrees out. Quit with 2 minutes left because Pukie was nearby. This was a fun workout. No breaks in HSC on first set, 2nd set got to 10 before breaks. Regular bar dips.

Comment #23 - Posted by: Pappas at August 29, 2004 2:40 PM

4 rounds plus 15 hang squat cleans. First workout in a week - vacation was nice!

Comment #24 - Posted by: Andy P at August 29, 2004 2:48 PM

2 11-4 12 21
3 10-5 12 21
4 10-5 10-2 21
5 11-4 7-3-2 21

rested 5 minutes and then worked on standing standing military and push presses to bring up my weak shoulders

95x4, 100x1-1-1, 105x1-1-1-1, push press with slow negatives 105x4-4

then hyperextensions (bodyweightx25) to help stretch out and get the blood flowing to my sore lower back.

Comment #27 - Posted by: Matt G. at August 29, 2004 3:36 PM

5 complete rounds
95# HSC
ring dips went well, broken after 1st round Yeah,my shoulders are healed and getting stronger!
subbed "Ab wheel" for sit ups. seemed to do a number on my core.
Does anyone else have an opinion on these things?

also did Saturdays WOD in the morning and posted it on that day.

Comment #28 - Posted by: Jim Howe at August 29, 2004 4:43 PM

65# HSCs; 5 rounds in 18 min. Had the time, but not the inclination, for at least the next set of HSC's. Warmed up with some clubbells and kbs.

Comment #29 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at August 29, 2004 5:29 PM

4 rounds plus 15 HSC finished the round out at 22:01 to make 5 rounds. Dips were done on bars as I have no rings.

Comment #30 - Posted by: PHIL at August 29, 2004 6:18 PM

Rather than breaking the sets, I just continued and blew threw the rounds:

10,9,21
5,6,21
5,6,21
5,4,21
4,5,21
5,6,21

First time doing ring dips..what a challenge... i can do 15 consecutive bar dips.........not so with the rings..

Biggest struggle I had was with my wind... i was winded right after the first set HSCs... heart felt like it was gonna pop through the whole thing..... maybe just a bad day..

Comment #31 - Posted by: ddel at August 29, 2004 6:57 PM

Not my finest hour.

4 Rounds of:
Crappy-form HSC (should have lightened it a little) P*ss-poor Ring dips (those are HARD)

Sit-ups aren't a problem, but overall...today was kinda cruddy.

Never quit.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Gunnar at August 29, 2004 7:07 PM

I did well in a Highland Games Saturday, then banged a keg against my calf doing a spinning Keg Toss. So, that and my birthday party conspired to make today's workout less than great: I settled on doing three of these, I did them and went to a play.

Lots of good ideas spinning in my head...

Comment #33 - Posted by: Danny John at August 29, 2004 7:11 PM

still a newbie to crossfit

I had to do soem adjustments due to equipment limitations.

I did 7 sets of the following in 19:30:

8 right arm 1 pood KB clean and squat
8 left arm 1 pood KB clean and squat
15 pushups
21 situps

Comment #34 - Posted by: Theron at August 29, 2004 7:18 PM

5 complete rounds with 25 seconds to spare. I felt great throughout. Let me clarify. My form and strength were solid. My lungs burned from the end of the first set of cleans until the last set of situps. I held Pukie off, but he was in the neighborhood. I feel tired and sore now but somehow energized and uplifted.

Nicole did 4 rounds plus 15 HSCs. All cleans were at 65lbs and most of the ring dips were spotted (I held her feet and she pushed against them as needed). Frustrated with having to break the cleans and dips, she powered through the situps, which resulted in a small patch of missing skin off her ass. Smokin!

Elliot finished the 4th round in 20:20, but he substituted 95lb thrusters for the cleans, which I think are harder, because of a soreness in his low back.

PK got halfway through the dips on his 4th round. His cleans are looking great; he's made tremendous progress in the last 6 weeks.

Comment #35 - Posted by: Tony B. at August 29, 2004 8:24 PM

4 rounds. dips on rings. some rounds with no splits. quit early. with Wall at R3. wadup Eric in Rose Park

Comment #36 - Posted by: ajq at August 29, 2004 9:10 PM

Did yesterday's WOD and posted there.

Comment #37 - Posted by: Q at August 29, 2004 11:48 PM

4 rounds with 40 seconds left. Normally would have liked to have tried to fit in a few more cleans in that 40 seconds, but I think I would have met Pukie if I had done so.

80# cleans, broken 8-7 each time
bar dips, 8-4, then 6-6 after that
janda situps, steady pace, no breaks

2nd time doing hang squat cleans and they have owned me both times. Must be a great exercise, because man it exhausts me. At least this time I did it at 80# (70/75 last time). I am actually quite pleased with my form on them. I'm sure there are deficiencies a trained pro could identify, but it feels like I'm doing them right to me.

Comment #38 - Posted by: Chris Forbis at August 30, 2004 4:51 AM

Well, I'm a day late...made 4 complete rounds. No rings, so just regular dips, unanchored regular situps.

These were legit pull-ups and legit numbers, I was there and saw it first hand. I'm sensing a bit of doubt/envy in your comment. Go girls go!

4 full rounds, finished 5th round at ~22:30

115# HSC, 15 reps, 3rd & 4th round broken to 8+7
12 assisted dips, no rings
21 Sit-ups all sets unbroken

Comment #46 - Posted by: Alex at August 30, 2004 10:48 AM

6 complete rounds as set plus 7th set of Hang clean squats

Comment #47 - Posted by: fish at August 30, 2004 10:51 AM

5 rounds
Used 85 lbs for HSC's, and regular dip station for dips (no access to rings...yet). Should have pushed myself farther and at least squeezed out a few more HSC's, but I think I have a religious objection to meeting Pukie on a Sunday. HSC's broken to 10/5,10/5,9/6,8/7,5/5/5, dips only broken on the last set, and no broken situp sets.

Comment #48 - Posted by: Matt A. at August 30, 2004 11:45 AM

5 rounds with about 1 min. to spare

Comment #49 - Posted by: stephen rossi at August 30, 2004 12:20 PM

I found this site a week ago and jumped in with my first workout. Finished 5 rounds using 65# HSC, I've never done these before so I felt form was more important, and most dips assisted. No breaks though, lots of sweat, and a little nauseous but feeling really excited about the next WOD!

Comment #50 - Posted by: Corey at August 30, 2004 1:11 PM

Got this one in a day late.

Preworkout:
115# snatch for eight sets of doubles w/minute break.

Used 115# for the HSC and anchored sit-ups for the ab work. Ring dips were broken beginning with round 2 and HSCs broken at the start of round 3. Sit-ups went smooth. Got 6 rounds with an extra set of HSC.

Comment #51 - Posted by: Ryan Atkins at August 30, 2004 2:30 PM

4 complete rounds and 6 HSCs.

No rings, just std dips.

Comment #52 - Posted by: Fred at August 30, 2004 4:40 PM

HSC @ 37kg

My 2nd WOD in about 3 weeks due to illness. Did Tabata This yesterday.

Comment #55 - Posted by: Pat at August 31, 2004 6:32 AM

4 rounds in 18:00.

Comment #56 - Posted by: Eagle_Eye at August 31, 2004 7:13 AM

3 1/2 rounds in 18 minutes. Could have easily been 4 rounds but for the meatheads hogging the rack. Why on earth do these people insist on using the only oly bar and rack in the gym for their shrugs? I will start steering them to use dumbbells (how appropriate is that) for their isolationist exercises and leave the big bar to those of us doing multi-joint movements.
Followed the WOD with 1 hour of cycling. Came out dripping wet! On to Helen!

Comment #57 - Posted by: Ron N. at August 31, 2004 10:16 AM

3 Rounds

Had a mental block and did thrusters for the first 2 rounds. No rings so I did 15 dips.

My first ever "time-oriented workout"
I really suck at this, and it's due to gassing.

Comment #58 - Posted by: nick at September 1, 2004 7:45 AM

Just made 4 rounds. Had to run upstairs to the garage to do the ring dips

Comment #59 - Posted by: degiz at September 1, 2004 12:38 PM

3 rounds 20.35
got overexcited and did 21 dips first round, was worried about them and made it even harder! good 20 min sweatathon!

Comment #60 - Posted by: Tim 'crack' H at September 1, 2004 7:38 PM

70# for the cleans and substituted pushups for the dips.

2 rounds in about 11:00, then threw my neck out doing situps. Ouch.
