"Chelsea"

Set up before a clock, and every minute on the minute perform 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats. Can you continue for thirty minutes? Twenty minutes? How about 10? Post results to comments. If you fall behind the clock keep going for thirty minutes and see how many rounds you can complete.

If you've finished the workout before, this time add +1 to each exercise, i.e., 6 pull-ups, 11 push-ups, and 16 squats each minute, and see if you can go the full thirty minutes. Greg Amundson has done +4.

Compare results to: 030907, 031203, and 040105.

16 sets for my first time on this. So have a lot of room for improvement. Obviously Greg Amundson is a PT god.

Chelsea + 2 (7 pullups, 12 pushups, 17 squats) with 20+ seconds to spare every round for 30 minutes!!!

Either my fitness level has increased dramatically since 040105, or someone has been adding a super-speed pill to my morning protein drink. I conquered Chelsea + 2 with no distress!! No breaks on anything, including the pushups (I even added another pushup on the last eight rounds). I'm in an amazed and euphoric state of shock...

Comment #2 - Posted by: kelly at August 15, 2004 6:11 AM

Well,I completed all 30 mins of Chelsea BUT>>>what I'm most pleased with is the fact that our martial arts school had a PT test of sorts this am...& on the mile run I was one and a half minutes belowmy necessary time a' came in third over all ...anwas only beaten by two teenagers fourty years younger than I am..naturarry Crossfit has me on the right track!!!! Thanks coaches et al!
Fantastic job Kelly... when is the Combat Challenge ?

Comment #3 - Posted by: Dave K at August 15, 2004 8:22 AM

10 rounds in 20 min.

Comment #4 - Posted by: Jason H at August 15, 2004 9:56 AM

Fantastic effort Kelly, you should be looking good for the TSC.

Managed Chelsea plus 1 for the first twenty minutes dropping to the normal Chelsea for the final ten. Lack of moral fibre prevented me sticking out the plus 1. Will need to thrash myself tomorrow to make up for today.

Comment #5 - Posted by: fish at August 15, 2004 10:29 AM

Preworkout:

C&J 160#. 10 singles w/ a minute rest between sets.

Well, like Kelly, I finished Chelsea +2 with no breaks and with about 20 seconds to spare each round. Unlike Kelly, I am very distressed, kipped on my pull-ups, didn't add push-ups at the end and I can't very well say I'm in a state of euphoria right now (except for thanking God almighty that I'm finished).

Comment #6 - Posted by: Ryan Atkins at August 15, 2004 10:36 AM

Ran 11.5 miles this AM, then did Chelsea +2, felt good. Like Kelly and Ryan, I had ample time to rest during the sets.

Comment #7 - Posted by: Todd H at August 15, 2004 12:21 PM

30 rounds in 30 min. without extra effort.
Next will try +2...

Crunches (40,40)
R/L Crunches (20,20)

The stupidest questions are those that no one asks... how much weight is to be used on the squat? thanks

Comment #11 - Posted by: ant at August 15, 2004 2:18 PM

Well, I made it through the first 12 minutes on time. Then I died and took a 2 minute break. 3 more rounds. One minute off, then two more rounds to finish in 20 minutes.

I was a little weak mentally and it was harder to get proper muscle recruitment because it was a different time of day than my usual workout. Funny how that works.

Comment #12 - Posted by: Adam McClure at August 15, 2004 3:19 PM

I suck!

10 rounds in 13:49

After the fifth round I was already dead but I pushed through it.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Cesar (CMB) at August 15, 2004 3:32 PM

That was tough for me. When I have read the results from the last few days from other people, I feel like a dork.

I did pullups with a little jump help (I do weight 240-250), and I did the push ups on a step. Squats were easy until...bang...hit the wall.

I did 14 in a row...then pow. Took an extra minute rest and got 4 more on the 12's, then stopped and got 2 more for a total of 20.

Comment #14 - Posted by: Danny John at August 15, 2004 3:36 PM

30 rounds in 31 minutes

Comment #15 - Posted by: Steve M at August 15, 2004 3:44 PM

30 rounds in 30 minutes with plenty of rest, no additions due to enough tree pruning earlier to keep me strong and ready for the next rounds. Next time an hour straight!

Comment #16 - Posted by: sean at August 15, 2004 3:53 PM

I did the pull-ups on the assist machine, so I had one unintended rest after 5 minutes waiting for someone else to get off it. I did:
5 min. on - 4 min. rest - 10 min. on - 2 min. rest - 5 min. on - 2 min. rest - 4 min. on - 2 min. rest - 3 min. on - fall over
The push-ups were really what stopped me on this one. Next time I'll use less weight for the assist.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Sam L at August 15, 2004 4:02 PM

30 rounds in 30 minutes.

In retrospect I probably should have gone +2, but since this was my first time I decided to be conservative. I did a tough wet/dry workout this morning though, so I don't feel like I shorted myself.

Hello from Fort Benning, by the way.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Matt G. at August 15, 2004 4:39 PM

+2 for 30 min. Added a pushup to the last 10 sets (Hi Kelly). Had about 17-20 sec to pant each round. Not as euphoric as Kelly, not as trashed as Ryan (great job, btw). Not looking forward to +3!

Comment #19 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at August 15, 2004 5:19 PM

20 rounds in 30 minutes. Tried to keep the pace in the beginning, but hit the wall on the 10th minute.

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie who's been lurking around for a few months. Today was my first official Crossfit WOD. It was a very humbling/painful experience but it sure felt great to "finish" and I look forward to many more.

Completed 10 rounds in 19:58. Used rings for pullups but could only manage 5 for the 1st two rounds and did 3 the rest of the way.

Rock on,
Dan

I am so impressed with the performances posted. I have to remind myself to focus on my own improvements and forget about how wide the gap is between you all and me.

I did this yesterday in my hotel room with a portable bar. I tightened it as much as I could and tested it thoroughly. It held for 5 rounds but on the sixth, I did a large kip on the 5th pullup and the bar fell. Unfortunately, my body was close enough to parallel that my back was the first thing to hit, followed closely by my head. My whole body was hurting from the workout, I couldn't tell if I injured myself or not. I took about 6 or 7 minutes to recover and then continued just with the pushups and squats. And even with this, I could only keep with the program for 10 more minutes. I did 5 more rounds in the last 8 minutes. I've had bad headaches today but no dizziness, so I'm looking forward to the overhead squats tomorrow.

I tried to post my comment as seen above, then had to retry the exact same message a minute later and it was OK.

Crashed after 27 rounds of Chelsea 2+,squat endurance was again the weakness.

Comment #28 - Posted by: Ed Velasco at August 16, 2004 2:49 AM

Oh boy. I don't want to think about it. No improvement, slight retrogression. 6 rounds on pace, then dropped to "-1" (4 pullups, nine pushups, still 15 squats). At 11 rounds dropped to 1:15 between rounds. at 17 dropped to 1:30. 22 rounds total . . .

Comment #29 - Posted by: davidjwood at August 16, 2004 7:53 AM

Jim:

Maybe it's the difference between "preview" and "post"? Are you hitting the intended button each time?

(Not saying this is the problem . . . just trying to guess at something.)

14 rounds in 25 mins. Ran out of patience at Gold's with jackasses taking my equipment. Shoulder joints took a beating on this one. Really sore a few hours later...

Comment #31 - Posted by: Joe at August 16, 2004 9:37 AM

Finished 21 sets, and started on 22 today. Managed 18 sets without any kipping on the pull-ups.

30 sets in 30 minutes, always had 20-25 seconds left to rest between sets. First time on Chelsea and I´m pleased with the results.

Dave Wood: I not sure, will try to pay closer attention in future...

Comment #34 - Posted by: Jim C at August 16, 2004 11:28 AM

First time with Chelsea:

11 complete rounds "on the minute"
4 additional rounds "on every other minute" to finish the WOD

push-ups were the weak link.

Comment #35 - Posted by: jdg at August 16, 2004 12:29 PM

Disappionted. Havn't been following WOD as much in past 2 months because of work and travel. Stayed with it until final round. Took too long on pull up bar. My last Chelsea was +1 for 30 minutes about 6 months ago. Felt good to see my friend pukie hiding around the corner.

Comment #36 - Posted by: Rick at August 16, 2004 2:16 PM

3 rounds in time, 13 more till 30 with a short break in the middle to explain to the neighbor what I was doing. Pull ups were band-assisted, never thought I'd look forward to the squat portion of a WOD.

Comment #37 - Posted by: tony young at August 16, 2004 3:19 PM

My first wod from go to woah with no modifications. i could do 10 rounds within the time and then i collapsed arrghh. NOW i understand pukie! i tried to keep going after 10 but had to stop doing the chins as my legs were cramping just from holding their own weight. i finished with a cool down stretch, and know that in 10 mins i did a killer workout!

Late posting
1-15 +1
15-20 +2
21-25 +3
Died and went to ..... back to straight sets. Didn't know if I was going to finish.

Comment #39 - Posted by: Jeff at August 16, 2004 9:30 PM

25 rounds in 30 min. Kept pace to round 13. Didn't break any of the sets, just didn't have the metabolic horsepower yet. I've got this one next time.

Comment #40 - Posted by: Scott Hagnas at August 16, 2004 10:17 PM

On the minute for first 10 minutes, 20 rounds total.

Pushups were limiters, sadly enough. Need to focus on them a bit. Ring dips and pullups work the chest differently.

Comment #41 - Posted by: Mike Y at August 17, 2004 9:52 AM

11 rounds

2 better than last time! I quit after this, man was I gassed.

Comment #42 - Posted by: Jon Pappas at August 17, 2004 12:29 PM

Did all 30
just changed my pull-ups each round
Front
Back
Chin up

Comment #43 - Posted by: degiz at August 17, 2004 1:39 PM

I run a few days behind. Was able to get 12 rounds on time, then fell behind and had to wait for the guy doing cable curls on the cable station which the only pullup bar in the gym is attached to. Ended up with 22 rounds in 30 minutes. Something to work on. Need to get one of those pullup/dip stations to do the WODs at home.

30+1

Comment #45 - Posted by: doc at August 18, 2004 7:50 AM

all 30 minutes completed.... ramped it up a notch during the last 8 minutes to Chelsea +1. it gave me a run for my money. It was my first time with Chelsea and I was still sore in the Quads from Thrusters/400's. concentrated on good form throughout. Good Stuff this!
