this is another variant to "ring work"

18 rounds & about 25 feet into the nent round B4 time was up.

A day late. Did the pullup/squat routine, 11.21. I am in awe of those who managed this one in under 10 minutes, and those who did it under 9 are really remarkable. Kelly, warming up with the weighted pullups, is beyond comment.

Sub'd pull ups for HSPUs. 15 rounds.

Weighted TSC pistols: 52# 1R+1, 5R+3, 0R+2, 2L+2, 2L+2. While unweighted left leg squats are becoming considerably better, 52# pistols with that leg are coming along slower. It didn't help that the muscles around my left knee were already fatigued and sore, but I know that side still needs plenty more work. Rested five minutes before the WOD.

17 rounds: HSPUs off both 7" stools and the floor
3 left leg pistols/30' walking lunge/1 right leg pistol.

I started the WOD with HSPUs off the stools. I got as far as eight rounds before I was going to have to break every set and increase my chances of falling on an ever present feline, so I opted to finish them using the floor. No breaks on any sets.

I wanted to maintain a pistol focus for the WOD; by the last couple rounds my left leg had had the course. I'm glad this was only 20 minutes rather than 30.

Thank you Adam - you too had a very impressive time!

14 rounds. Unable to complete handstand pushups as of yet so substituted dumbbell shoulder presses

Comment #10 - Posted by: brian a at June 29, 2004 11:03 AM

Two. 2 . Too. To. That's one, two rounds. Cause I kept falling over trying to do handstands against the back wall of the house. The concrete deck is hard when you are 225 pounds and falling on it. I finally gave up and did 40 pound dumbbell presses instead. You guys really love HSPUs don't you?

How many rounds in 20 minutes of:
Walking lunge 50 ft.
5 **QUASI**Handstand push-ups

TOTAL=13 + complete set of lunges

**Trying to get comfortable and confident lifting my frame from the upside-down orientation... braced legs inbetween the bars of a dip station and backed up into as much of a handstand (hips directly over shoulders) as I could. Going to try the back against the wall soon.

Comment #12 - Posted by: jdg at June 29, 2004 11:24 AM

I can see from the other posts that I still have a lot of improvement to go through.
I was 1 HSPU short of 9 rounds.

I also completed yesterdays WOD before today's.
17:53
The pullups really slowed me down. They were all broken sets.

Comment #13 - Posted by: Luke at June 29, 2004 11:38 AM

11 comlete rounds

No broken sets hspu until last round, then 4-1. hspu improving nicely.

I had to make up a couple of WOD's due to my son's 3rd birthday party and a bout with food poisoning (from the party). So...

Started with Elizabeth from 6/26 - Time: 6:45

Went on to 6/28 WOD (pull-ups and squats)
Time: 21:21

Today's WOD - 12 complete rounds with about a minute and a half left, but I was too smoked to do any more.

I am going to go find the Ibuprofen and ice now!

Comment #16 - Posted by: Steve W at June 29, 2004 2:19 PM

I got 12 sets done. But, since I only started yesterday @ CrossFit, I was doing pushups w/ my feet on a 2 foot high stool. I didn't think about the dumb bell presses for a substitute. Isn't there a cross reference to review?

Comment #17 - Posted by: Dean Soderstrom at June 29, 2004 2:34 PM

I good substitute for handstand push-ups is handstand push-ups. The only real way to get better at these is to do them. If you can't do the positive press from the bottom position, lower yourself down slowly from the handstand position and repeat. If you can't lower yourself with control, simply hold a handstand for a specified number of seconds or count to ten in your head. You'll be amazed how fast HSPU's come with practice.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Phil Mancini at June 29, 2004 2:53 PM

7 rounds. Subbed DB presses for HSPUs; 45# on the first round, 40# on the rest. All reps but two were singles.

Warmed up with 10 sets of 5 partial HSPUs (going as deep as can go, which isn't very) followed by one about half-range HSPU negative, alternated with squat singles (Bottoms-up from pins, just practicing). Finished with two sets of push-presses with 50# and 45# DBs, Janda sit-ups, barbell Turkish get-ups.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Ross Hunt at June 29, 2004 3:18 PM

Back on track with the WOD. Warmed up with some 400 yard jogs, rope climbs and toes to bar. 16 total, last 5 I had to break up the HSPU.

Comment #20 - Posted by: Jeff at June 29, 2004 3:55 PM

19 rounds. No cool additions like pistols though.

Comment #21 - Posted by: Lynne Pitts at June 29, 2004 6:04 PM

We attempted the first HSPU and decided to go with traditional push-ups instead.
Richard- 13 rounds
Felicia- 14 rounds with girl-style push-ups

Comment #22 - Posted by: Richard & Felicia at June 29, 2004 9:15 PM

This is my 4th WOD. I got 8 rounds in 15 mins then knee tweaked out (torn ACL and meniscus damage a few years back in college). I am amzaed at some of the times/scores on here. I train in krav maga fairly consistently (18 months+ now) and do the Bas Rutten workout tapes once a week or so, and it is amazing how well i can do the "push" excercises but how weak i am at "pulls". We never do any chin/row type of work in Krav, but I can do push presses for days... Keep up the good work guys: I love Cross Fit!

Comment #23 - Posted by: joe at June 29, 2004 9:59 PM

16 rounds.

Substituted behind the neck presses for HSPU's - 5 rounds @30kg and 11 @20kg

Comment #24 - Posted by: Michael Kent at June 29, 2004 10:15 PM

14 rounds + another set of lunges

HSPU started deep but the last few sets were getting shallower.

Comment #25 - Posted by: Pat at June 30, 2004 12:37 AM

14 rounds. Cracked 100ft for the lungees - forgot the distance in the WOD when i got to the gym.

Finished with 15 minutes of kettlebell work and a 5Km run home

Comment #26 - Posted by: fish at June 30, 2004 1:09 AM

17 rounds at the wire.

Did this late last night in a hotel hallway. Got a few funny looks.

Comment #27 - Posted by: Matt G. at June 30, 2004 7:29 AM

9 Rounds complete
Nicole and I debated substituting DB presses but decided to stick with the HSPU, which clearly slowed us down. We spotted each other for the last 3 rounds, but each round was full ROM. The lungs weren't as taxed but the shoulders are screaming. We stayed together.

Comment #28 - Posted by: Tony B at June 30, 2004 8:14 AM

16 rounds. Had to stop once due to pain in left knee. Went on and stopped with 2 min. to spare as I was gassed. Subbed various push ups for hspu's. My wife doesn't want footprints on the wall.
Going to do the 5k row tonight at the gym.

Comment #29 - Posted by: Ron N. at June 30, 2004 4:44 PM

Did this WO on Wednesday (sick kid) however, I completed 18 rounds. Substituted Standing 45 pound Bar Bell Presses for HSPU's. Bar Bell Presses got hard, squats were great.

Comment #30 - Posted by: Lisa Austin at June 30, 2004 8:05 PM

12 rounds.

Did 25 ft of the lunges with 50 lbs, the other 25 without.

Comment #31 - Posted by: Cyrus at June 30, 2004 9:47 PM

18 rnds w/ 3s to spare
was lowering till nose was ~2inches from ground - not low enough, that's why it was fast.

Comment #34 - Posted by: Curious at July 1, 2004 7:42 PM

Comment #35 - Posted by: Will at July 2, 2004 12:42 PM
