135 lbs x 30 Reps : 6:24

Partitioned this into 5s with a 30 sec rest between sets. Power cleans with a split jerk.

Comment #2 - Posted by: Kevin A. at June 24, 2004 6:15 AM

I tried setting up a 10rep/minute pace on this one (inspired by Dave and Greg on the Crossfit DVD). It worked . . . for the 1st 2 minutes. Used power cleans and push jerks. My lungs are on fire right now and my forearms feel like they're gonna fall off.

Time was 3:29.

Comment #3 - Posted by: Ryan Atkins at June 24, 2004 6:22 AM

Squat cleans and something ugly between push press and push jerk. I've always done push press so I need to practice the jerk.

115 lbs x 30 reps split into something like 5,3,3,3,2,2....

14:00 (I thought this was ok until I saw 3:29)

Thanks once again to Kelly's indomitable inspiration: finally did weighted pullups. 25# x 5, 25 x 5, 35 x 3, 35 x 3, 35 x 3, 45 x 2, 45 x 2, l, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1. I suspect however that you have passed me once and for all, with your 55s. Still thanks for the spur and the goad.

What's with Mario's shoe's?

Comment #6 - Posted by: mark at June 24, 2004 7:13 AM

Started the WOD with weighted pullups and pistols:

55# thick bar TSC pullups - 1,5,2,2, I wanted to go for 6 on the top set but I'm still sore and cramping easily in my chest and lats from Lynne's excellent bench instruction that I had to back off a little.

Bodyweight bottom pause pistols - 20 consecutive per leg. No breaks or balance problems for right leg (easy and plenty in reserve) and two foot touches for balance with the left. While not as easy as the right, all the extra left leg work is paying off. There wasn't a chance of me doing 20 nearly non-stop left pistols a week ago. Finished pistol practice with a minute of standing on one leg with eyes closed. Amazingly, I managed 45 seconds with the right before losing balance. That exercise is getting better too. I'll be doing many more left leg reps throughout the day.

5:36 - 65# full squat cleans and jerk

I kept it light - between the pistols and that darn crink in my neck that has returned full force, I didn't need any more challenge this morning.

Sets broken at:
5 (135 lbs), dropped to 115, 5,5,4,4,4,3

I got the first 5 at 135, but form was ugly and there was no way I would've made it in under 3 hours. I dropped to 115 (kept time running) and finished out the last 25 with good form, still taxed.

My first experience with Grace....man is she mean!

Comment #8 - Posted by: Scott at June 24, 2004 9:24 AM

I did push-presses instead.

time 2:35

Then I did tabata Rows 20/10
995 meters
66 cal

11:21 135#

Reps were mostly power cleans and push press/jerk. Very humbling.

Comment #10 - Posted by: steve h at June 24, 2004 9:51 AM

8:45 with 100 lbs. Clean with push jerks. First time for this and should have used more weight but better safe than sorry I guess. Wrapped up with some pullup and ring dip(negatives only but hopefully can do reps soon) sets.

135# @ 9:33Broke up rounds starting at 5 reps after 15 broke down to 3 reps. Like the 10 reps per minute idea though!

Tried 115# and did not think I could get all 30, so did Grace (clean with push jerks) with 105#, 30 reps (6x 5 rep mini-sets)

TOTAL TIME= 9:25

Comment #14 - Posted by: jdg at June 24, 2004 11:36 AM

tried 135 but only for 2 good reps
then 125 x 5
115 x 5
115 x 4
105 x 5
105 x 5
105 x 4
also tried as little rest as possible

Clean and Jerk @ 135 x 30

Broken up into 12/12/6. Form was good, but I'm sure I could use some refinement in my technique. As Ryan observed, my grip was shot to hell by the end.

Comment #16 - Posted by: Matt G. at June 24, 2004 12:22 PM

6:36 w/ 135 lbs.

Comment #17 - Posted by: Cyrus at June 24, 2004 12:24 PM

tried 60kg (134#)for 5 reps, stopped the timer and reloaded with 40kg (90#) and started it all over.
I will need to spend more quality learning time before the C&J starts to flow a little smoother, however I am proving that it may be possible to teach an old dog new tricks.

Comment #18 - Posted by: Jim H at June 24, 2004 1:06 PM

6:00 at 115#.
I found that I recovered from this a bit too quickly (within a minute or two), so 15 minutes after completing the first time I repeated the workout in 7:00 at the same weight. Warmed up with jump rope; finished with hanging leg raises and janda sit-ups.

Comment #19 - Posted by: Ross Hunt at June 24, 2004 2:02 PM

30 c&j @ 135# = 11:57 (broken in sets of 6)

no access to gym tomorrow, so followed "grace" with "diane". posted latter to tomorrow's board. not pretty. thrusters yesterday were not a smart move.

Comment #20 - Posted by: JC at June 24, 2004 2:15 PM

Approximately 4 minutes.

Hit the wrong button on my stop watch and it did not start. Luckily, I looked at the wall clock prior to starting.

Did first 15 reps with no break then 5, 5, 3, and 2.

I really enjoyed this one!

Good news! Got my first muscle-up today! What do I have to do to get my name added to the MU Club? Send a pic or video? The rings are awesome!

Bad news: I did Monday's workout today, and my legs need more work! My max on squats was 235, so I need to bump that up.

Man, I'm fired up!

See ya,
D

I was getting buried by the 135 and the form was scary.

8:12 @ 185# clean and press cuz need to practice jerk...
My first CrossFit workout--had no idea what I was getting myself into... Looking for a change and got it for sure. Can't wait for tomorrow. Finished up with 4x25 calf raises @225 with glute/ham sit-ups. Thanks!

Comment #26 - Posted by: Dirck at June 24, 2004 5:51 PM

2:00 even for 135# power cleans. Misread WOD and forgot jerk portion of prescription. Had to break this into 3 sets.

Comment #27 - Posted by: Chris Schmidt at June 24, 2004 6:01 PM

9:58, 95#, power cleans. Bwt 112. Lots of mini-sets.
Kelly, glad to hear you're still nice and sore!
Adam, that's terrific work - great stuff!

Time...5:55

Comment #30 - Posted by: George at June 24, 2004 7:49 PM

Thanks for the encouragement, Lynne. By now I should be used to the amazing feats of the women of Crossfit, but you and Kelly (and others) just leave me gasping. You are truly athletes who show us what can be done when there are no limits set to thought, to work, or to achievement.

Comment #31 - Posted by: adam at June 24, 2004 8:14 PM

Couldn't do today's workout b/c something in my arm has a sharp pain when i hold the bar in the clean position. Tried to warm it up, but that made it worse - might be some mild tendinitis from the pullups tuesday. Has anyone had anyone like this?? did some running instead:

4 sets of
run 400m
25 sit ups w/ 25lb. weight
14:05

I'm going to an ultimate frisbee this weekend in boston, so it's good for me to get extra running in anyway.

Comment #32 - Posted by: Shelly at June 24, 2004 9:04 PM

9:34 with 135lbs - first set was for 4, second a 2 and the rest were 3s. Lungs and forearms on fire.

Somewhere b/w a power clean and squat clean. And push-jerks @ 47kg.

Finished up with a couple of sets of 20 box jumps, 10 pullups and 10 dips.

Comment #34 - Posted by: Pat at June 24, 2004 11:54 PM

Did the Clean and Press 30 reps each arm. Used 25 KG KB for 18 reps and 16 KG KB for 12 reps. Under 6 min. Smoked.

Comment #35 - Posted by: Thompson at June 25, 2004 8:39 AM

I'm a day behind, but it worked out great, because my o-bar arrived today. 40kg, 16:00, strict form (high pulls, full squat cleans, snappy jerks)...felt great with the new bar!

135 lbs

Comment #37 - Posted by: Steve M at June 25, 2004 2:12 PM

Started at 130#. After 4 reps I knew that was too heavy. Down to 120# for 4 more. Still knew that wasn't going to happen in any semblance of a good time. So, re-started the clock and did 110# in 16 mins.

Comment #41 - Posted by: Luke at June 25, 2004 8:26 PM

I tried that 10 rep/ minute pace and found it to quit after say the first 10. Finished in 5:13.

Comment #42 - Posted by: Ahmed at June 26, 2004 12:33 PM

135 lbs "about 9 mins"
Broke em up into sets of 5 with 30-60 secs rest in b/w sets.

Forgot the stopwatch today, but like others, was wathcing the clock. Tried to do some abs afterwards, but realized quickly my energy is best saved for tommorow.

Comment #43 - Posted by: nick at June 28, 2004 6:23 PM

125# 13 mins

Comment #44 - Posted by: Will at June 29, 2004 8:38 PM

60# -- 12:39

More like a squat clean/push press. Still having trouble dropping under the bar for the jerk.

Comment #45 - Posted by: John Frazer at July 4, 2004 8:40 AM

Substituted power clean with push press since I've never done jerk. 95#. Split into 5 or 6 sets. Took about 35 minutes because I was doing too much chatting and not enough working...
